The grandfather, who is also blind as a result of severe diabetes, feels isolated despite having his family around him. "If an air strike targets the house or the neighbourhood, I cannot move, not even using the wheelchair. I am completely paralysed, I cannot see and I can barely hear and move my arms. What has helped me is that we evacuated by car when the situation was less dangerous," Abujubein told MEE. . . . "What did the world that has long talked about human rights and the rights of people with disabilities do for us? My granddaughter has a subject about human rights in school. The first time they learned about people with disabilities, she was happy that she could reflect on me," Abu Jubein laughed. "She came to me repeating what she had learned about their rights and how they should be given a special treatment." "Now where is this special treatment? Did the world at least call for the evacuation of the displaced from Gaza until the end if the attacks?" "Even hospitals are targeted. When the Israeli occupation started bombing hospitals and then besieged al-Shifa Hospital, we thought that this would be the start of an international revolution against the occupation, because the protection of patients and children inside hospitals is the core value of human rights." "But, surprisingly, nothing happened."

Tumblr media
This was posted earlier today. I have the updated article on my tumblr page. I think I’m ok with it if it happens. I think it heightens the emotions between Belly and Conrad. 🤔Thoughts?
Thank you so much (and shout out to the anons who sent me links. I'm gonna respond to all of y'all collectively with this one).
Honestly, at first my jaw was on the floor and I was just sitting there silently in shock. And I was kinda mad and upset. I just feel like they did this same exact thing with TATBILB and I just don't understand why she would spend so much time writing the characters a certain way and building such a beautiful little world with such respectful men and then changing such a big part of a characters beliefs and the way they were written. I know people are saying "JH is making it more sex positive and bringing the story into 2023" but tbh I don't think having a boundary and wanting to wait for the right moment (bc Belly DOES want to have sex (with both brothers at different points I'd argue) and she thinks about it in the books. she just wanted it to be special and the right moment). I don't think there's anything wrong with showing that and showing boys who respect the boundary and don't push it or force it. I think that is the most healthy thing you could show. Even though Jere has his flaws and gets annoyed about Belly not having sex with him, he doesn't really push her on it, he just respects the boundary and is silently mad about it. In hs my best friend had a boyfriend who was SUPER pushy, she was honest with him and kept telling him "no, i'm not ready yet" and he just kept pushing her about it, and eventually they broke up and she realized how awful that behavior (among other red flag behavior from him) was. I just feel like the message being sent to young girls today is not a good one and I was actually kind of excited to see a show that would portray sex in a different light. I clowned myself because I thought since JH is the showrunner, she'd keep the important things from the books. But I guess this is a battle we are losing lol. That Christmas scene was so so good in the book, and the way Conrad is with Belly, how he recognizes the importance and wants it to be special for her...I was really looking forward to that.
After much consideration, I think I'm actually okay with it, as long as it's Conrad. And I have a feeling it is going to be Conrad, in Cousins in December. That's kind of the only way it would make sense is if it happens there. Also the fact that they bring up the fact that she loses her virginity immediately following "Tung...wanted to ensure that key moments from the second book...carried the same weight and resonance when adapted for the screen". The first thing that popped into my head after I read that was the Christmas in Cousins scene, because I felt like that whole thing resonated heavily in the book and it was really important. Also if I'm right and it is Conrad in Cousins, it actually adds more flames to the fire and more angst to the 3rd book storyline, because if she doesn't sleep with Jere but he finds out somehow that she did sleep with Conrad, and then finds out she ended up alone with him in Cousins again and didn't tell him? Oh that will be GOLD. Jere sleeping with the sorority sister could still carry the same amount weight. Just because the audience knows she lost her virginity to Conrad doesn't mean any of the other characters are going to know. And Conrad strikes me as a guy who wouldn't kiss and tell (and especially his own jealous little brother and Belly's older brother lol). I think they could 100% pull off the rest of the plot and still have her give herself fully to Conrad. But I can see the secret coming out to Jeremiah in the heat of an argument and all hell breaking loose. I think it'll be fine. It has to be lol
also who's idea was it to drop this spoiler-ish bomb on us two days before the start of the season?? I just wanna talk

I just read an Entertainment Weekly story about the new series The Muppets: Electric Mayhem on Disney+. This 10- episode series will focus on Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, the funky Muppet band featuring a host of characters including Dr. Teeth on keyboards and Animal on drums, and their individual backstories. As relative unknowns by way of these characters and their individual and band histories, they can go in a lot of different directions, and the show will feature a diverse human cast, including Lily Singh as an aspiring record producer, her social media influencer sister played by Saara Choudry, and Electric Mayhem superfan Tajh Moury. These three help the legendary but very chill and laid-back band finally find their own sound and record their first real album, while being pushed around by outside forces in the industry, which is the basic premise. This core group will interact with lots of human guest stars making cameo appearances, and it sounds like additional muppet appearances may be limited, to ground these musical muppets into a real and largely human world of touring and recording musicians. As these guys are a band from an earlier era, the first half will have covers of early rock music, while the second half will have original music created for their new album. This group actually appeared and performed a set before 30,000 people on the Outside Lands stage, in San Francisco, according to this article, that was well-received by both audience and performers (as muppets), and the thought from the creators and showrunners/producers is to bring them into the future just like they are a real band, possibly including a record release of original music, public appearances, and touring.
So could Darren be a guest star here? He fits the premise perfectly. There are tons of ways he could fit into this show, and all the various backstories of both the Muppet and human characters will be fleshed out with musical influences. They could even re-launch his Royalties songwriter character from this, and re-boot his show in some way for Disney+. (I would love to see some casting changes, though, if the show could go to a longer format, with a stronger female co-star who is more of a draw and equal partner to his level of talent and fanbase. I can think of a couple that are already under contract at the Mouse House and have proven chemistry with him and their own followings already.) He would be great in helping write these new songs, while also appearing on camera.
The Muppets, as a franchise brand, should have as big a footprint at Disney as Pixar, and their production studios should include the same flex as Star Wars’ Skywalker Ranch with all their innovative technology, except Jim Henson’s creative focus with puppetry. They have a great roster of character actors and bona-fide stars in Kermit and Miss Piggy. Disney should have a Muppets musical movie release or a tv special every year, with releases planned well into the future. Music is key in all their big productions, The Rainbow Connection and It’s Not Easy Being Green are classics, and I love puppets of all kinds. Where are the Regional Puppet Theater awards, hosted by a tuxedoed Kermit and Pinnochio, and held at Disney World? The History of Puppetry Around the World show with different Muppets and their real-life performer pals hosting a show together each week on Nat Geo? The Making of Puppets competition shows for Adults, with Miss Piggy and Celebrity judges, and the Crafty Kid version? The Kid’s Cooking Show with the Swedish Chef? This brand is still beloved BECAUSE it is nostalgic and a little sweet and corny, and it should never be too adult or too current and on trend.
The current producers of this show hope this will bring The Muppets back in a big way and cement their future with Disney once and for all. I hope, with such a heavy focus on the soundtrack, that these band members are be able to actually carry a tune and sing a little closer to an actual human voice. Kermit’s songs were always popular and memorable because he could actually carry a tune, and filled his songs with emotion, pathos, and humor.
No release date has yet been set. Check out the article on EW First Look.

March 30th:
Justin sits down with Complex and talks about Selena and growing up in the game:
Complex: Obviously, you and Selena are fodder for the gossip blogs everyday. How hard is it to keep your relationship private?
JB: It’s so hard, because everyone’s got a camera-phone, and now everyone wants to get their picture on the blogs. So they’ll send anything that they have to the blogs. So you don’t really get any privacy. If I want to go out to eat, if I’m in L.A., I just have to expect that there’s going to be someone there. That’s the only thing that I don’t like.
Complex: Is it tough for you guys? A lot of people like, hate it. Do you guys hate it, or is it like, “This comes with the territory, we’ve got to deal with it, it sucks?”
JB: I’m kind of both. I don’t like it, but I understand it. I’ll be covering my face or something, and the comment that pisses me off so much is, “Oh, get over it, Justin. You’re famous. People are going to take your picture. Just suck it up. You’re rich. You’re making a lot of money. Suck it up. This is one of the things that you have to do.” I’m like, “Yo I just got off an eight-hour flight. I’m tired. My eyes have bags under them. I’m not trying to take pictures.” I’m not going to come to your house, wake you up out of a deep sleep and start snapping your picture, no matter how you look right now. It doesn’t matter. When I get off a flight, I’m not trying to sit there and let them take pictures of me. I’m tired. I’m scratching my eyes. I just don’t like taking pictures in general.
Complex: There’s been high profile couples in history: Justin and Britney, Jay and Beyoncé. Jay and Beyoncé kind of kept it private. Everyone knew they were together, but they kept it quiet. Even with the kid, they kept it so under wraps. Do you learn anything from those relationships? And do you guys talk about that?
JB: Yeah. I mean, for me, it’s like, there’s no way to hide it completely, because then it would be unfair for us. Then, we’re not even able to have a relationship. It’s like, “You take this car, and I’ll take this car, and then we’ll meet up at the spot. Then, you go in this door, I’ll go in this door. We’ll end up crossing ways. You get back in this car. We’ll cross over, do a James Bond. You go through the kitchen. I’ll go through the back area. Then we’ll meet in the dressing room and see each other.” At that point, it’s like, it’s not even a relationship. You’re just hiding from everyone. That’s unfair and unhealthy, man.

Selena debuts a new additional music video for Hit The Lights
Selena appears on On Air with Ryan Seacrest and opens up about her Kiss Cam at the Lakers game earlier this week, and Justin’s upcoming debut with Taylor Swift.
Asked about the Kiss Cam, Selena called it "the most humiliating thing that’s ever happened to me, probably."
“They were showing these little elderly couples, and it was so cute. Then all of a sudden we’re both looking up and we come on the screen and it’s like … it was so awkward. It was so weird. I mean you have to kiss, right?”
"They wrote a song together and it’s beautiful - it’s amazing - I don’t know if it will make the album, but if not I’m sure they’ll release it at some point, because it’s a really great record. It’s kind of like … it’s Taylor and Justin combined. So it’s a little bit of an upbeat song, but it’s very acoustic.”

April 27th:
UsWeekly releases a special edition of their magazine featuring Justin and exclusive photos/interviews titled Inside My World: Justin Bieber. He's questioned about Selena during his interview and mentions recently gifting her a diamond bracelet:
UsWeekly: At least you get quality time with Selena. What do you love about her?
Justin: I dunno! She just carries herself in a very elegant way. And my family loves her, which is usually hard because my mom’s really picky. My mom wants, you know, a good Christian girl with good manners.
UsWeekly: Do you understand girls better now?
Justin: Well, every girl is different, so they are hard to figure out. Like, the way most men work is the same. But each woman works differently. It’s like I can’t figure them out! But I do know girls like you to tell them you love them and that they’re all beautiful all the time. So I do that a lot with any girl I’m with. I tell them that as much as possible.
UsWeekly: Most romantic gift you’ve ever given?
Justin: I’m not saying to who- but I gave a girl an expensive diamond bracelet recently. It was so pretty, I knew she’d love it!
UsWeekly: Would you and Selena ever do a duet?Yeah. I think she’s very talented.
Justin: That would be very cool. We have nothing planned- but I’m not opposed to it!

“I’m going to call my girlfriend.” So he does, reaching Selena on the Florida set of her new film Spring Breakers.

May 27th:
Selena and Justin were strolling an outdoor mall in Calabasas when paparazzi began harassing them as they were trying to leave. According to witnesses (and photos taken) this photographer was so aggressive that he even blocked Justin's car, and was said to be rudely harassing Selena "about the herpes (coldsore) on her lip" while trying to capture a photo of her. After they began harassing Selena, Justin got out of his car and went to smack the camera from his hands and him and the photographer both fell off the curb.
The photographer was taken away by ambulance AND filed a police report that named Justin as the culprit. The Los Angles County Sheriff's office is investigating and say they will talk to Justin.
One of the girls who supposedly was there shared this:
"long story short; the paps were blocking his car and wouldnt move, he got mad after asking them to move, justin tried to knock their camera, the pap and justin both fell off the curb, he lost his shoe and hat while fighting him, selena and justin left and came back because selena lost her phone, and the paps would not get out of her face, and then they left and now the paps are trying to get money from the whole thing"
Another girl that was allegedly there as a witness had nearly the exact same story as above, except in addition she added the paparazzi were rudely asking Selena "about the herpes on her lip," and that's when and why Justin knocked his camera.

Detectives want to interview Justin and Selena after a photographer claims he was attacked by Justin at a Calabasas shopping mall Sunday, but authorities continue to seek additional witnesses.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Sheriff's Department said the investigation was continuing and that detectives "are planning to interview Mr. Bieber." Law enforcement sources said Selena is among the witnesses detectives would like to talk to. Detectives are investigating claims by the photographer that Justin struck him after he snapped photographs of Selena at the Commons at Calabasas Shopping Center.
The photographer complained of pain and was taken by the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a hospital, where he was treated and released, officials said. The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing, stressed that the probe was in its early stages.

June 28th:
Justin cut short a pre-taped interview with U.S. radio show Mojo in the Morning after the host compared him to Justin Timberlake and quizzed him about a potential romance between his mother and One Direction's Harry Styles.
Thomas Carballo, the host of the show, was in the middle of a phone chat with Justin when he (rightfully so) took offence at his line of questioning - and hung up.
The 10-minute interview got off to a bad start when Carballo told Justin he thought he was Timberlake the first time he heard him.
Justin said, "That's funny because our voices sound nothing alike... Saying I sound like somebody else is definitely not a compliment."
Justin eased up when talking about his new song Maria, which was inspired by the woman who falsely claimed he was the father of her baby last year, but he lost his cool when Carballo got personal and asked if he was worried about Harry Styles falling for his mum.
The DJ said, "Do you worry about Harry around your mum, since he likes older women?"
Clearly upset, Justin then mumbled something about Carballo's mother and, as the radio presenter explained his mum was dead, Justin had already hung up the phone.
A record company representative then tried to convince the DJ that Justin's phone had cut off, explaining, "I can't get him. He's in a really s**tty area."
She later revealed Justin was "really upset" with the questions, adding, "He probably won't be calling back."

ML Salt ~ The Cardigan Story
This is based on a true story.
Honestly, I always remembered this story because it constantly made my Sister and Mum laugh when I told them I outed a liar at school by wearing a cardigan, they were so proud of me because what I did wasn’t mean and I wasn’t even doing it out maliciousness so I thought, hey why not put it in the ML universe?
This isn’t canon to my main series so no Rosina since there isn’t any need for her, sorry sweetie.
And since I doubt Mlle Bustier would never out Lila, I’m changing the teacher to someone who actually has a backbone.

I know you may not wish to be tagged for one-shots, but I thought you might enjoy some salt I was able to come up with.
Also, I wrote this in one day so I’m extremely proud of myself.
***
If you told Marinette that Lila’s reign over the school would end over a cardigan, she would tell you you’re as crazy as she was about Adrien.
A lot.
But, she did just that.
She had to thank Adrien really, the ‘advice’ he gave her was what really pushed her.
She wouldn’t outright expose her, no, she had tried that before and look where that got her, near expulsion that’s what. And not one of her friends tried to stick up for her. She always remembered that glare Alix gave her, and since then she had been ignored, turned away by them.
Even after Lila came out with ‘the truth’ she was still seen as an overly jealous girl.
“Lila’s promised she hasn’t lied about anything else she’s said to us, it only acts up around people she doesn’t know as well, maybe next time, instead of being jealous you should give her a chance and stop being a baby. Girl this all could’ve easily been avoided if you weren’t so Adrien crazy”
Really? They actually believed that load of crap?
Whatever, Marinette was done, done with everyone.
If they wanted to show her how wrong she was then she’d let them wait until hell would frost over, because fat chance that would ever happen.
If Marinette was proud of one thing about her then it would have to be her stubbornness to get to the truth.
And she could be extremely patient.
***
It was just an average day at Collège Françoise Dupont. There weren’t any Akuma’s caused by anyone the previous day so Marinette was finally able to have a good night’s rest, something the exhausted teenager really missed.
She felt so re-energised she danced in the kitchen as she made breakfast without a care in the world.
.
Before she fell over that was.
“…Owww”
“Careful dear, you wouldn’t want to be hurt before school hours, now just sit tight and I’ll get you something to eat,” Her Maman said. Marinette felt grateful. After breakfast, she gave her Parents a kiss before leaving.
She had loving parents that supported her every beck and call.
…Well most of the time, but that didn’t matter, she would never let Lila manipulate them ever, her Parents were off-limits.
By the time she arrived at school she was one of the first ones there, Nathaniel in the back drawing his comics, texting Marc as well, it seemed like he was in his own ‘do not disturb’ bubble. Max was talking to Markov about some new type of game, and Rose and Juleka were just cuddling.
She made her way to the back feeling a positive emotion before exhaling.
Because it was about to be ruined.
Lila walked in with Alya, Nino and Adrien by her side.
She was telling a story about her ‘one of a kind cardigan-
Wait-
“My Grandmother made this cardigan especially for me carving her signature on as well, it’s the only one in existence because shortly after she made this, she ended up being in a terrible accident that left her bedridden.” They pandered to her of course. But for once she wasn’t focusing on the lie but the cardigan.
Oh, Lila’s only gone and done it now.
“I’ve always wanted to wear it, but I didn’t want it to end up ruined by someone” Her gaze casually went up to a lone bluenette, but she really wasn’t bothered.
“Don’t worry girl, I’ll keep a watchful eye on your cardigan for you. Ain't nothing gonna come between me and my besties property” They hugged before sitting down in their spaces.
‘Oh my god, I have a plan’ Marinette had that thought circled around her head until break. It was all she thought of.
Mind you, she wasn’t trying to expose everything she’d done, just that one lie. And that would be enough.
As soon as the bell rang, she was ready, she gathered her stuff and rushed home.
And thank god as well, Lila would not shut up about that cardigan, through Literature, Science and PE, it was constantly my Grandmother made it for me this, it’s the only one of its kind that.
Ugh, she wanted to rip her ears out at some point but had to endure it. No one else was bothered since they all believed her, even the teachers!
Yeah, you don’t really need any proof if it was handmade, some of Marinette’s earlier stuff didn’t have her signature on, but still, it was the principle of the matter!
And she could right that wrong.
In her room she was frantically searching for that item as Tikki dodged different articles of clothing, one hit her as she wasn’t looking, and she was down for the count.
“Marinette what are you looking for?” Marinette paused to look back at Tikki before continuing a bit calmer.
“Lila’s been lying about that cardigan and this time I can prove it.” Her eyes lit up as she lifted a cardigan up from her cupboard.
“One of Maman’s friends gave this to me a few years back, it was one of the reasons I got into fashion because of how soft it is and I wanted to replicate that. Don’t you think it looks familiar?” As Tikki looked over it her eyes widened, she knew Lila was lying anyway but she had no idea Marinette had definitive proof of it.
“That’s the same cardigan Lila has!” Marinette nodded before wearing it.
At least it still fit.
“But Marinette I thought we were gonna take the high ground?”
“Tikki it's tiring having to listen to them being lied too. I may not want them to be my friends anymore, but I just want the lying to stop. If I go and tell them that she’s lying with this as evidence they’ll clearly see she’s lying”
“But outing her like that won’t make it better!” Marinette wished she could respond with ‘are you sure’ but didn’t want to piss the mini-god off.
“Fine, what if I just wear it until someone notices, that way I’m not actively looking to publicly shame her? Better?” Tikki gave a reluctant nod, she knew her chosen wouldn’t let up about the situation, besides this whole thing was really just pettiness, nothing too serious. If no one noticed nothing bad would happen.
“Bye Maman, bye Papa” As she began walking back, she grew a bit nervous with her plan.
What if Lila made a whole other lie about her cardigan? What if she lied that Marinette had stolen it out of jealousy and everyone would try to take hers? She’d have to run away and live with a secret identity, all before getting caught and going to prison, and she’d never have her three kids and her hamster named-
“Ahem Marinette, is thou there?” A hand brought her out of her trance
“Ahhh!” She waved her arms before composing herself and seeing D’Argencourt in front of her.
“Ah, yes Monsieur?” How long had he been standing there? How long had she been rambling in her head?
“As I was saying, these new garments of yours, where did they originate from?” It took her a while before realising he was talking about her cardigan, she was so used to wearing her jacket it felt strange she had changed.
“Ohh this, well it was a present from Maman’s friend. They were on sale a few years back, so I thought I’d wear it again” He furrowed his brow before telling her to carry on with whatever she was doing.
“Well, that was weird. Do you think he liked the jacket?” Tikki ponded as her head ever so slightly popped out the small handbag.
“He’s always been weird Tikki. But whatever, let's just get back to the classroom.” All she had to do was wait.
***
‘How the hell hasn’t anyone noticed yet?’ Marinette was secretly fuming in her mind right now. None of her classmates noticed the change in her outfit.
Not one.
Bustier did however, the bluenette was sure because she’d see her teacher quickly glance from Marinette to Lila but never said a word. Probably thinking of that whole, ‘be the bigger person’ crap.
And not even the excuse of maybe Bustier didn’t know, bs. By the time break happened everyone in the school knew about that damn cardigan so don’t get her started.
‘Oh well, looks like that’s it. My petty revenge came flat… At least Lila didn’t pull a Marinette ruined my belongings stunt’ That would’ve been the last thing she needed.
Knock Knock Knock
The door opened before Bustier could reply, a teacher would reprimand a student for this type of rudeness, but it wasn’t a student.
It was a teacher.
And it was Monsieur D’Argencourt.
‘What the-’ Marinette didn’t remember this part of the plan.
“Excuse me Caline, but I need to interrupt the class for an announcement.” Bustier was about to deny but D’Argencourt the stubborn teacher as he was, walked straight on through ignoring whatever Bustier would’ve said.
“Lila Rossi, may you please step in front of the classroom?” Lila looking completely confused let go off Adrien, much to the relief of the boy, and walked in front of her desk.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng?” He didn’t need to repeat the command.
Yes, command not a request.
“Can I ask you where you got your cardigans from?”
“Armand, I don’t think this is appropriate-” He shot a glare back at the teacher.
“I can assure you this won’t take long if I’m not interrupted”
Lila looked over to Marinette and realised with a sinking feeling what was happening. But she would win this time. Just like all the others.
“My Grandmother made this specifically, you see-”
He held a hand up to silence her.
“Yes, that’s quite alright, and Marinette would you like to repeat what you said before?” As Marinette did just that Lila was seething, he cut her off. How dare that simpleton cut off Lila Rossi!
He would pay.
“Well, it appears one of you is lying, and I expect that person to own up to it now” The class gasped as they all looked expectedly at Marinette, they knew she was petty but to do this was so low.
Lila looked at her smugly, she had tried to play with fire but got burned in the process. How could she even think she’d get away with this?
“I was talking about you, Lila Rossi”
“Eh, what?” The class gasped as they tried to say of course Lila was innocent, Marinette was the one lying. Or that Marinette must’ve tricked him.
He shot a glare towards all the class members as they instantly shut up.
“I don’t remember this being a class discussion, if I want your opinion, I will ask for it. Understood?” They nodded before giving sympathetic glances towards the brunette, D’Argencourt almost had the urge to shout at their incompetence but alas they were kids.
“I can tell you why you are lying Lila, with a photo. But as I’m feeling generous, I will give you one more chance to reveal yourself.” The class was silent as they all looked on in anticipation.
But Lila stood her ground defiantly, as if he actually had proof-
Oh…
Oh no she’s doomed…
“Then I don’t suppose this looks familiar? Hmm?” On his phone was a picture. Lila immediately lowered her head, too ashamed to look him in the eye.
3 guesses of what it is?
No.
.
.
No one?
.
.
Too easy?
.
.
Ok, it was the cardigan.
And at a fairly cheap price. No wonder she had it in brand new condition.
“I first knew you were lying once I saw Marinette wear the exact same one, however, hers was clearly worn out, evidently she has worn it for several amount of years. You had already messed up when you said it was the only one made. So please…” Lila looked up to see D’Argencourt giving one of the most frightening glares of the century.
“Don’t ever lie about anything to my face or anyone ever again, you will be court out and I will be keeping an eye on you. Is that final?” She meekly nodded her head, trying to give a frightened appearance to make him have sympathy but he was immune.
“That will be all. I hope your class has learned a valuable lesson of not taking things at face value” And with that, he left. Leaving Marinette with a different impression of her PE teacher, it seemed he didn’t like liars all that much.
Marinette smiled, her plan worked, and she didn’t even out her herself. Tikki surely can’t be mad at her now.
Bustier tried to get the class to go back to normal but she couldn’t. The class erupted into a screaming fit, asking how Lila could lie about that sort of thing?
It wasn’t until someone unexpected said the next few words she wondered if this was a dream.
“Hey if Lila lied about this what else did she lie about? She even said herself she doesn’t lie to her friends but that was a lie” That made the class tick as they soon realised and soon torn into her about it.
Leaving Lila, a ‘sobbing mess’ on the floor. All before she stopped that fake display and arguing back.
But the one who said that…
Was Adrien.
He was able to slip by the crowd and stand next to Marinette.
No words were said, she knew what he would’ve said even without the noise.
‘I’m sorry’
It was a start, and maybe through time, she could start trusting again.
But for now, she just wanted to enjoy this chaos…
.
.
Before there was an Akuma alert.
***
I want more D’Argencourt I want more D’Argencourt I want more D’Argencourt. I probably screwed his speech but oh well this is salt, doesn’t have to be accurate.
Phew, hope you enjoyed it, sorry its shorter than the others but this happened when I was in Year 5 and I was 9/10 years old. Woo 10 years ago, god that makes me feel old. Also, not everything was exactly this way, the teacher did out the person in front of the whole class, but she admitted it and went back to her class, we had two classes for maths. Anyway, I actually have to give Lila credit compared to the liar we had at our school, this person actually knew I had that cardigan and actually complimented me on it like months earlier and still had the audacity to say that. I think that’s the reason why I think if I was in their world I wouldn’t believe Lila because I already had a Lila at my school who would always say they’ve done the exact same thing as we had (They even said they had the same Aunt as me living on the same street, crazy right). Mind you they never said anything to me, I think they were too embarrassed plus, I was a goody little two-shoes there.
Anyway I really hope you enjoy it and if you like real-life stories so much I can always try to ask my friends for more ideas, I did have like some slightly toxic friends there that I may be able to tell you about but I’ll try to think how later.
Cya next time.

Untitled - 3
(Continuation of Untitled Linzin fanfic, pre-canon AU, wip)
It was past sundown when they finally managed to get in front of the reception area of the hotel they were staying at in the Earth Kingdom. It was not one of the five-star Ba Sing Se hotels but it would suit their purpose.
Ikki refused to detach herself from Lin, so the earthbender had to carry the child all the way from the ride from the train station to the hotel. This left Tenzin to commandeer most of their luggage. Jinora dutifully held his hand while dragging her own stroller bag.
As the bellboy unlocked the suite and began to rattle on about the amenities it included, Lin’s sharp eyes took in the rooms.
Tenzin nodded as the man pointed out the living area – a living room, small kitchen, two bedrooms and one bathroom.
The bellboy handed him their keys. “Enjoy your stay, sir.”
The airbender distractedly thanked the man and locked the door behind him.
Lin shifted the weight of Ikki on her arms.
Tenzin winced slightly; his daughter was getting too old and too big soon to be carried.
He cleared his throat. “So, who’s hungry?”
Jinora quietly raised her hand.
Ikki buried her face into Lin's shoulder further, mumbling.
Lin frowned. He did not catch what his daughter was saying, but Lin apparently did. "Kid, the last time you ate was at noon. You might need more food now."
Ikki shook her head. "Bed."
Lin looked like she wanted to disagree and to push the child to eating dinner, but Tenzin beat her to it. "Ok Ikki, bedtime for you it is." He moved forward to take the kid off the earthbender, avoiding Lin’s disapproving expression.
He carried Ikki to one of the bedrooms while Lin went back to the living room, probably to check on their luggage.
 When he came back out after settling Ikki (who, for all her claims of being tired, took quite a while to settle down), Jinora was freshly showered and reading on the couch. Lin was nowhere in sight.
Before Tenzin could even ask about his wife’s whereabouts, the door opened.
Lin had opened the door from the outside and a waiter pushed a food cart in.
Once the waiter has left them, Lin once more locked the door and gestured to the trays on the cart. “Here's the food.” She announced unnecessarily.
He eyed her curiously. “You could have called for room service.” It would have been more convenient, he thought as he and Jinora sat down in the makeshift dining area that straddled the kitchenette and the living room.
Lin simply shrugged, removing the food covers off the plates. “Had to make sure our travel arrangements for tomorrow are in place anyway. Figured why not check the food out.”
Tenzin knew better than to take her explanation at face level. The nonchalant tone she used was a guise. It meant she had probably gone to the kitchens to see for herself that their food was not tampered with (Bumi’s warning about poisons and other ingested medicine rang clearly in his head after being briefed about their vacation.) Nonetheless, he was tired and it had been a long few days so he let it rest.
He and Jinora each took a plated dish while Lin reached over to pluck out the wrapped sandwich from the side of the tray. Just as he was about to offer his seat to her, Lin had walked towards the living room and got on the couch.
“Lin, are you alright there? You can always join us for dinner.” Propriety dictated that he invite her over, faux wife or not (a niggling voice at the back of his head that sounded like his mother whispered that it was not faux since they were wed well within he confines of the state’s laws).
“I’m good here, thank you.” Lin did not even face him and he was treated to her back. She unwrapped her sandwich, took a bite and was engrossed on something on her lap.
He managed to peer over her shoulder to see what got her attention. It was the Earth Kingdom’s evening paper.
He cringed slightly as the front page had a short article about his nuptials from the previous day. The sidebar also ran an accompanying story of their history years ago and subsequent reunion.  The page flipped before he could even see what salacious rumors were written up.
Jinora asked something about a word she had trouble understanding (sagacious) from the book she was reading; and so Tenzin forced himself to focus on their dinner.
He needed to talk to Lin without the children. He supposed, as he took a bite of his meal, he would have time later before bed.
 Tenzin had just finished readying his toiletries and pajamas when Lin poked her head through their bedroom door, hair wrapped up in a towel. “Shower’s all yours. I’ll check on the girls, make sure they’re all good for the night then I’ll go to bed.”
That had to be three-fourths of an hour ago since he got back from his night shower.
Tenzin wondered what could be taking Lin so long, he frowned at the empty space beside him. He hoped Ikki and Jinora were fine, then concluded that Lin would have called for him if there were any problems.
Idly, his thoughts wandered as he cleaned his glasses while in bed.
It was great that that girls now had some female influence around them. Not that he thought the acolytes at Air Temple Island were in any way deficient in educating the girls. It was just that the acolytes were a tad too…
He ran his fingers through his beard, thinking of the appropriate word.
Submissive? Tame?
Meek.
They were also a little bit to eager to please.
He made a face. These were not traits he wanted his daughters to necessarily imbibe.
At least with Lin, a fond smile crept unbidden, she was none of those things. He figured she would be a good strong female role model for the girls.
He placed the glasses back on and tried to concentrate on the book he had had brought on this trip. It is nice to have some quiet time for himself.
 He must have dozed off because the next thing he knew, he heard his daughter crying from the other room. He heard the rush of footsteps as he got up quickly to head to the other bedroom.
Lin was already there, seated at the edge of the bed at Ikki’s side. Jinora was still lying down but rubbing her eyes, blinking at being awoken by her sister beside her.
From what he gathered, between Ikki’s hiccups and words, the child woke up in the unfamiliar room and had cried in panic and fear.
Tenzin observed the earthbender from his perch beside Jinora, who had promptly gone back to sleep upon seeing her father and Lin at their room. She correctly surmised that they will take care of Ikki anyway.
Lin managed to calm the girl down, whispering and combing through her hair until the cries dwindled to whimpers and sniffles.
There was a pang in his chest at the scene before him. He would be lying to himself if he claimed that he had not imagined Lin comforting his (their?) child when they were younger.
Feeling his gaze at them, Lin raised her eyes to meet his. She tilted her head to the side in question. He answered merely with a shake of his head, his throat feeling a little bit thick.
After a few more minutes, Ikki's breathing changed; she fell back to sleep. Lin gently laid Ikki’s head back on her pillow.
Tenzin leaned to place a kiss on the forehead of his daughters. For a moment, Lin looked like she was about to do the same but she straightened up, and moved to leave the room. He caught her by the elbow and together they left.
Once outside the bedroom, Lin pulled away; eyes darting towards the living room. “I’m sorry, I just – I heard Ikki cry and I thought – well, better make sure that she’s alright. I’m sorry for intruding.”
Belatedly, Tenzin realized she was wearing shorts and a tank top, apparently she has been ready for bed. “No, it’s not that – thank you actually, for caring.” He trailed off. “Why don’t you go to bed now?”
Lin nodded curtly and Tenzin felt her distancing herself from him. “Good night.”
“Wait, where are you -?” Tenzin found himself asking when Lin went passed their bedroom door and into the living room. He then saw the rumpled blanket and pillow on the couch.
He paused there, stunned as Lin bent to fluff the pillow. That she had been sleeping earlier on the couch even did not cross his mind as he waited for her in their his bed.
“Need something?” Lin raised an eyebrow wryly at him. “I can assure you that everything in this suite is secure and safe.” She patted the couch. “I can guard you all best from here.”
 Of course.
Tenzin swallowed drily. Well, that felt foolish. He felt foolish for assuming – no, even thinking – that Lin would share the bed with him.
For all intents and purposes, that was all that she is now – his family's bodyguard.

 Note: Let’s toss in the tropes~ forced marriage? Maybe a bodyguard AU? There-was-one-bed? I pretty much have an outline of this short story but if you have thoughts or suggested scenarios/trope, go ahead. Happy to hear them!

Hidden Chapter 1: Approved
also on ao3 here
warnings for allusions to suicide, death mentions
---------
Mr. Denton, the journalism teacher at Cold Spring High, clapped his hands, collecting the little remaining attention of his last class of the day in the final 5 minutes before the bell rang, dismissing hordes of teenagers to the winter holiday.
“Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, if your articles are not in by midnight tonight-” his voice raised on his last two words “-they will not be in our January paper! Our copy editors do not want to chase you down for your story over their holiday.
“And seniors,” he said to the graduating class, who were all ducking their heads in an effort to avoid his next reprimand, “please tell me what your investigative pieces are. These projects are expected to carry you through the end of the year, so I’d like to get those approved before the new semester. I still need those from Laura, Kath, Dev, James, and Olive.” He leveled each student with a look to kill, reminding them that they were running out the grace period on their already-late topic proposals.
Kath consulted the slim packet on her desk, ready to be turned in and - hopefully - approved. It was complete well before the initial due date (this was her first late assignment in all her four years of high school, which was both a great pride (in that she had never turned in something late) and shame (in that she was turning in something late) to her), but she had been debating turning it in for weeks. Her mother had called it morbid, her father had called it inappropriate, and her younger brothers had simply designated it “weird.”  Her eldest brother, Michael, had been more than supportive, as he always was, and she decided to ride on that as she marched up to Mr. Denton’s desk before the bell rang.
He looked up. “Ah, Kath, is this the elusive proposal?”
She nodded, sliding the assignment across his desk.
“You know,” he said, beginning to glance over her writing, “I was surprised to not have this from you earlier. I don’t think you’ve ever turned something in l-” His eyebrows crept up on his forehead, and Kath knew that he had reached her topic. “Interesting.”
“It wasn’t a clean case, sir, I just want to-”
“I trust that you detail this all in your paper here. I’m not concerned about the necessity of it, or whether it would make a good project, I’m concerned about you. I know Lucy’s death has been hard for you, and-”
“This isn’t about Lucy.” Her voice was cold, as she had schooled it to be whenever anyone brought up her sister - tone as a barrier, instead of a betrayal.
“Okay, but I worry that this will bring up some difficult stuff for you. This project is meant to be fun, I don’t want you hurting yourself in the process.” He was speaking to her like she was some kind of kicked puppy.
“With respect, you’re not my counselor. If it’s a good topic, I want it approved.”
Mr. Denton frowned, not pleased in the slightest with her phrasing. “Try that again.”
Kath bit the inside of her cheek, then sighed. “I want to research it, sir. I think it could help people, whatever the outcome is.”
Her teacher looked at her for a moment, considering. Then:
“Okay.”
Katherine grinned. “Thank you!”
“But, Katherine?” He said as she turned to pack up her things.
“Yes?”
“I reserve the right to pull it at any point, if I decide it’s getting to be too much, and reassign you a new topic. I’ll ensure that you have time to complete it, should it come to that.”
“Mr. Denton-”
“That’s the condition. Your health has to come first.”
“Fine.”
And it was fine. It wasn’t going to be too much. She would turn in the best piece he had ever seen, and, if she was lucky, uncover some new evidence for this years-old case, maybe even enough to reopen it - that would be something. Organizing her things in her binder with one hand, she shot a text to Michael - simply “Approved!!” - with the other, then dropped the binder into her backpack, making a commitment to at least make a list of the things she needed to do for this article when she got home.
The bell cheered the sought-after hour of 3:15 and everyone made a mad dash for the door, inevitably creating a bottleneck here, preceding the one they would create in the parking lot in a desperation to get home. Kath lingered back for a moment, offering a “happy holidays” to Mr. Denton before trailing the last person out. She dropped by her locker before heading out to her car, both refusing to be caught in the chaos that was the parking lot after winter break or risk forgetting anything at school over the holiday.
Clicking the lock shut and tucking her scarf around her neck, she stalked out to her parking spot, scowling at the December frigidity. She had had the good sense to turn on her car before she went out, meaning that it was perfectly toasty when she got in, placing her backpack in the passenger seat. Satisfied, after a glance at her phone, that she was not being forced to pick up her brothers, she turned on “driving” mode and made her way home - her goal was to get home and back in bed as quickly as possible.
The forecasted snow began to fall just as she pulled into the driveway. This was a win in her book - she loved the snow, but hated driving in it, and if she played it right, she wouldn’t have to drive for days. It speckled her hair and coat with white in the short walk from her car to the front door.
“I’m home!” She shouted, shucking her winter wear onto the coat tree. Her mother’s head appeared out of the living room, wearing disapproval as makeup, clothes, and shoes.
“No need to shout, Katherine.”
Her tone was devoid of the holiday cheer of her apparent activity du jour of decorating the house for their annual Christmas party, garlands and popcorn-cranberry strands looped over her neck and around her arms. She caught Kath staring.
“If you’re so fascinated, you can help.”
Now, Kath loved decorating for Christmas, just...not particularly with her mother, and certainly not for the Christmas party. Christmas party decorations were perfect - bows hung at measured intervals, cherubs and candles spaced out on the mantle, a tree with a color scheme and ornaments hung just so nestled in the corner. She had been over to friends’ houses during the break, and there was warmth in their holiday decorations, in the tinsel tossed haphazardly on the tree by a little cousin and rainbow lights strung up around the porch. That’s what Christmas decorations should be, something with meaning, rather than just for show, like the ones that they had here.
“I have homework,” Kath begged off. “Ask Edith or Constance when they get home.”
“Katherine-”
“Sorry, Mama!” She said, already halfway up to her room.
In her room, she had strung up the fairy lights absent from downstairs and decorated her own, albeit Charlie Brown-esque, tree, with little baubles she had painted with friends. She shut the door and pulled her laptop from her school bag, settling under mountains of blankets to start on her piece. Unsure of quite where to start, even for her to-do list, she opened Google (always a strong jumping off point) and typed in, “Sean Conlon-Larkin Cold Spring NY.”
The usual stream of pages popped up: articles about his death, links to thoughts-and-prayers posts on a multitude of social medias, and finally, what she had been looking for - semi-kooky, backwater Internet pages claiming that his death hadn’t been a suicide, a tragic but all-too-common occurrence, but something more sinister. There had been claims just like this, five years ago, when it had first happened. They were mostly stupid, but hurtful: Sean’s younger brother, Kath’s age (she couldn’t remember his name), had been the target of many accusations, eventually getting to the point where he withdrew from school and his foster mother opted to homeschool him, even after the buzz had died down a little.
These pages Kath was looking at now, though, these weren’t baseless. They cited holes in an investigation that had apparently been eaten by moths: weird coincidences and evidence completely ignored, times not lining up and shady clues.
If Sean’s death wasn’t a suicide, if this case had been completely mishandled - this could be major.
Katherine opened a new folder on her laptop. When prompted, she racked her brain for a title, and something clicked. Her fingers clacked across her keyboard.
HIDDEN.

Intertwined Fates (Chilumi/Zhonglumi) - Chapter 1
Can be read in ao3 here
This chapter has a really small bit of mentioning ScaraMona (While I don’t ship them that much, I like how people write their little dynamic)
SUMMARY: After 5 years, Lumine had finally adjusted to her new life...
5 years…
5 years ago when she lost Zhongli
5 years ago when her world shattered
Lumine slowly opened her eyes as she felt an insistent poking on her cheek, vision blurry until her golden eyes met with wide magenta eyes.
“Qiqi, what’s wrong?” she asked sleepily, judging from her surroundings it’s still in the middle of the night.
“Can’t sleep.” she simply said, “Mama, play. Let’s play.” she pouted as she tried to shake her mother awake.
The blonde woman sighed, glancing at the digital clock on the bedside table, 2:30 am.
“Qiqi, it’s a bit too late for playtime, why don’t we sleep and play in the morning? Mama has no work, so we can play all you want.” Lumine smiled, however, regretted it when Qiqi’s eyes grew more excited.
“Then play now! More time to play with Qiqi.” the purple-haired girl awed, “Mama, please, Mamaaa…”
“Qiqi, please… Mama’s still a bit tired.” she sighed, guilt filling her immediately when sadness glazed over her daughter’s eyes.
Lumine was about to give in until she felt a pair of arms snaking around her waist, warmth on her back, and ginger hair tickling her face, “Hm? What’s happening here?” he tiredly asked though she can feel the smile on her face.
“Papa! Mama’s gonna play with Qiqi.” the young girl smiled.
5 years ago when Ajax started picking up the broken pieces…
“Isn’t it a bit late, princess?” Ajax chuckled as he sat up to pick up the child and settled her on his lap, “Mama’s still a bit tired though, and it is way past your bedtime and way too early for you to be up.”
Lumine rolled over to watch the most important people in her life.
2 months ago when she fully got herself back together to start a new chapter with Ajax together with their daughter.
She watched Ajax convince Qiqi why they should go back to sleep, words didn’t really register in Lumine’s brain for it had gone to wander on the memories from the past 5 years.
~~~
“Lumi, it’s time to eat,” Ajax said as he entered the room carrying a tray of food.
“Not hungry,” Lumine answered, unmoving and staring blankly at the wall.
The man sighed, “Lumi, please.” he said as he placed the tray on a nearby table before walking to the bed, “You haven’t eaten much earlier.”
“Just leave me alone,” she said, voice cracking just like her heart.
It was three days after the funeral and Lumine can barely take care of herself, her twin and Ajax had mostly been taking care of her, Aether being the one responsible for the formal papers related to Zhongli’s death as well as running their bakery, together with his brother in law, Xiao, who is also grieving for losing his only kin.
Lumine can’t help but admire how he could still function while she barely even have the energy to move from her current position. And that thought just made her feel worse.
“Lumi…” Ajax called quietly as he watches the familiar trembling of her shoulders.
And that’s how it usually goes, Ajax climbing next to her and hugging her tight, giving as well as seeking comfort as he quietly let the tears slide down his own eyes.
A month later, Lumine began taking care of herself again, telling herself that she needs to take proper care of her unborn daughter, their little Qiqi, the name was random, to be honest, she and Zhongli are trying to come up with a name by blurting out random names they can think of. The name came from Zhongli, it was a completely random name, but it was the one that grew on them as days passed by trying to name their daughter.
Qiqi came a bit earlier than they expected. Lumine was in their bakery, trying to fall back into a routine without mourning for her husband’s death. Aether and Xiao have provided a good support system at work, even Ajax stops by during his break from work.
Ajax, who had also picked himself together, even getting promoted in a powerful and influential company called Fatui, as one of the 11th Harbingers, the youngest who had been given the position.
Ajax, who stayed true to his word by being Lumine’s side, supporting her in every way he can.
Ajax, who freaked out so much when Lumine’s water broke, Aether had to slap him to get him to focus.
Welcoming Qiqi to the world, was life-changing for Lumine. She expected that to happen, but with all the tragedy the transpired, it just felt so different. It’s as if she was reborn with new hope and dreams.
So she worked hard for them. Worked hard until their bakery, Emergency Sweets, gained popularity. She won’t lie, she has a huge feeling Ajax pulled some strings, but customers don’t just stay for pretty words on an article, they stay for the twin’s speciality; Pie Mon, a fairy shaped dessert that would magically satisfy your sweet cravings.
Lumine’s life was bright again as she raised her daughter.
And so is Ajax’s…
He didn’t know why, and he certainly doesn’t even have to, but he never stopped himself going straight to the twins’ place where Aether had welcomed her sister back, every after work.
Never stopped himself helping Lumine raise Qiqi.
Never stopped falling in a domestic routine with Lumine.
Never stopped the feelings growing back in his chest.
Never stopped himself leaning into a kiss after a particular emotional dinner.
They had a fight months ago before they got together, they don’t even remember what it is nowadays but Ajax could remember how he never stopped deepening the kiss.
Or how he never stopped the night from going to be one of the most passionate night he ever had.
It was wrong, it felt all so wrong, but at the same time felt right.
For the first time in forever, Ajax felt like he had finally come home.
The day after that was a flurry of emotions for them, the guilt loomed on them. Both distancing themselves for a while until Ajax just had enough.
It felt fucked up, but Ajax can’t help but crave for that feeling again. The feeling of being in her arms, the feeling of sharing and receiving something so intimate, the feeling of being loved back by the woman who had always been so close yet feel so far.
Ajax was mad at himself for having feelings for his best friends wife. But what can he do? He’s tired of wanting something he can’t have, and now that it looks like he has a chance, it was hard to control the desperation in his heart.
It felt fucked up, but Ajax knows he can take the responsibility well. That he can give them the best life they could ever want, that he’ll protect them with all his life.
It felt fucked up, but Ajax selfishly gave in the thought.
It wasn’t all easy on Lumine’s side.
Her feelings are a mess, guilt from sleeping with someone else but Zhongli, but at the same time her feelings coming into terms that Ajax is also someone very special to her.
She had been feeling something different every time she sees Ajax. The same fluttery feeling she felt when she sees Zhongli before, the same feeling of longing when he’s gone.
Aether had felt something was off, he is her twin after all. He listens as Lumine poured her heart out, wiped the tears she shed, just like he always had, and always will.
And like the great brother he is, he lifted Lumine’s chin to look at him, he smiled, “Let your heart lead you to your happiness, Lumi. I’m sure Zhongli would want to see you happy.”
And so she did.
It took a bit of time but eventually, they fell back into their old domestic routine.
Ajax will never forget the night he had finally come back to the twins’ place.
“Papa, you’re back!”
~~~
Lumine snapped back to her senses when she felt Qiqi settling down beside her, yawning before her eyes closed. The blonde smiled before tucking her daughter properly under the blanket, fingers gently caressing the child’s face to lull her further to sleep. She stopped and watched Ajax settle back down himself.
Blue eyes met her golden ones, he smiled before taking Lumine’s hand and giving it a soft kiss, “Are you alright? You seem to be lost in thought.”
“Just thinking,” Lumine said, her finger moving to gently caress her lover’s cheek.
Ajax leaned into the touch, “Something wrong? You barely moved until Qiqi’s laid down and that took 30 minutes worth of story, you know.” he chuckled quietly.
Lumine smiled, “It’s nothing bad, just late night thoughts, I guess.”
He hummed, “And may I know what these thoughts are?”
Ajax may already have a feeling about it, there’s only one thing that makes her zone out like that.
Their relationship was received with different reactions, Aether threatening him if he hurt his sister he’s dead, their friends happy for them and demand he showers Lumine with all the happiness in the world… Xiao, however, didn’t take the news well, only leaving them with a cold glare about betraying Zhongli.
It upset Lumine, but she hides it from their friends, even if Ajax offered to have a talk with Xiao. They decided to give him some space first, let him slowly warm up to the idea that feelings are unpredictable and that his brother is not being replaced and will always have a place in their hearts.
“Just… I love you.”
Ajax froze, eyes widening at Lumine’s smile. It was unexpected, he thought Lumine will shrug it off as nothing and he’ll be left with anxious thoughts of Lumine being unhappy again.
He was the persistent one in pursuing their relationship, helping Lumine became comfortable with her feelings and accept the fact that she loves another man now.
And while Lumine had finally given up and freely chose to fall in love again, there’s still a bit of insecurity at the back of Ajax’s mind.
Even if they moved to a new home, spent passionate nights together, and Qiqi being a huge Papa’s girl, Ajax still can’t help but feel insecure about his standing in Lumine’s life, did he push her too much? Forced and chained her with him?
Those words rarely leave Lumine’s mouth, only answering it back when Ajax started it, but now that Lumine finally said it first, Ajax can’t help but feel his eyes water, nonetheless, he said it back, “I love you too.” with another kiss on her hand.
~~~
“What is she doing?” Lumine asked curiously as she helps Ajax clean the dishes by wiping the rinsed ones and placing them back on the rack.
Ajax hummed before looking at where Qiqi was. The little girl was crushing some of her animal crackers in a little bowl by the window.
“Oh, well, the other day we were watching the animal channel and it’s talking about birds, Qiqi seems fascinated by the finches it seems and wonders if they would like animal crackers. I’m assuming she’s trying to lure them.” Ajax chuckled.
Ever since moving together, Ajax had decided to start working from home, not just it’s more convenient, but he also thought it’ll help Lumine, who used to bring Qiqi with her to work. While her uncles don’t mind watching over her, their work environment isn’t the most ideal for children. Being separated from each other wasn’t as easy as she thought, well it’s harder on Lumine; the first day away was spent with her calling Ajax every hour to see how Qiqi is doing. Qiqi, on the other hand, is actually fine being left behind with Ajax, which still baffles her cause she could never leave her with a babysitter before. But then she remembers how Ajax is part of Qiqi’s life ever since she was born. He’s always been there enough for Qiqi to think she’s her father.
While Ajax certainly didn’t mind the title, instead, welcoming and taking the role seriously, Lumine wasn’t comfortable at first and had tried to subtly make Qiqi call him something else instead. Ajax respected her wishes, even helping her introduce Zhongli as her father.
Qiqi can’t quite grasp the concept yet, how can this man on the picture be her Papa when he’s not there to tell her stories about the Legendary Cocogoat and tuck her into bed and kiss her forehead?
Ajax and Lumine had explained in a sugarcoated way that her Papa is in a better place now but he’s always watching over her.
It still didn’t make sense to Qiqi, nor thought it was a big deal due to her age and would continue to call Ajax as her father.
Lumine was already considering researching about explaining life and death to Qiqi, but Ajax had expressed discomfort, explaining that a child’s innocence should be preserved. Lumine stated that Ajax won’t be able to protect Qiqi forever, but she did agree that it’s a bit early.
They gave up at one point since it’s starting to upset the child as well, claiming that Ajax doesn’t love her and her mama is mean even if she was just gently correcting her.
It broke both of their hearts, causing them to apologise and just let Qiqi be, besides, isn’t Ajax basically another father for her anyway? They’ll just save the talk again once she’s at the appropriate age.
“When do you think she’ll start asking for a pet?” Lumine chuckled.
“Hm, I mean it wouldn’t be bad getting her some finches, they’re actually low maintenance birds. We can buy a spacious cage in our garden and appropriate food for their diet.” Ajax considered, “I think it’s perfect for Qiqi since she’s more fond of observing than petting animals.”
Lumine hums, thinking about the time where Qiqi was fascinated by her Auntie Xiangling’s pet panda, Guoba. The little girl was in awe as her magenta eyes followed whatever Guoba is doing. Pretty much squealing in delight when Guoba does something silly, only daring to approach and pet the animal when Xiangling’s holding the animal to avoid any unexpected accidents.
“I think it will be good, I’ll ask Aether about it as well though,” Lumine said as she placed the last of the dishes in its proper place.
“I’m pretty sure he’ll suggest getting a dog instead.” Ajax laughed before drying his hands and pulling Lumine in his arms, nuzzling his face against her neck, “I mean, I’m not opposed to that idea as well.”
“Well, maybe we can ask Qiqi what she thinks, though I’m pretty sure she’ll choose the finches,” she said leaning back and sighing to his touch, he had always been a touchy lover, but Lumine doesn’t mind it one bit.
“I have that feeling as well.” Ajax chuckled.
“Anyway, don’t you have work to do?” Lumine asked as she turned around facing Ajax and poking his cheek, “I’m pretty sure I saw Scaramouche threatening you in your messages. Have you been slacking off your work, Mr Tartaglia?” she teased, the phrase coming from their college days where Ajax isn’t too keen on finishing an individual paper from a minor class.
Ajax rolled his eyes, “The midget is threatening me to go along with his story that the Tsaritsa made him stay overtime to work on a report about our branch in Inazuma, how he was so desperate to go home but his phone died and he couldn’t message his wife, instead of him actually being too focused on work he forgot their anniversary date.”
“Hm, I feel like Mona will know either way.” Lumi said as she thought about it, “She always does.”
“And she probably will still murder him even if I went along with it. His fault and not my problem.” Ajax shrugged.
“I’m pretty sure he’ll do the same when you’re in the same situation.” Lumine snickered.
Ajax gave her an offended look, “How dare you, I’ll never forget such an important date.”
Lumine raised an eyebrow, “Yeah? Well, when’s ours?”
“November 11, at 4:22 pm if you wanna be specific.” Ajax grinned at Lumine’s surprised face, “Told you, ojou-chan~” he used his special nickname for her before kissing the tip of her nose.
Lumine was about to retort back, but Qiqi had walked into the kitchen with her an assortment of toys, “Mama, Papa, play with Qiqi now?” she asked hopefully.
They both smiled warmly before untangling themselves from each other, “Papa will just make a call then I’ll join you and Mama, yeah?” he said as he knelt down to Qiqi’s height.
“Okay.” she smiled brightly before Ajax left to his office, she turned to her mother with a smile, “Mama, let’s go! Qiqi thought lots of games to play with Mama.”
Lumine smiled before letting her daughter drag her to her playroom. It’s been a while since Lumine had taken a couple of days off from their bakery, though she comes home at 6 pm every night, Qiqi would complain that she was gone for forever and missed so much playtime with her and while she loves her papa so much, she misses playing with her mama as well.
As Qiqi continues to talk about what they’ll do, Lumine can’t help but feel happily content with how her life is now.
~~~
White… Everything is all white...
He doesn’t exactly remember where he was, nor how he got there.
Hell, he doesn’t even know who he is.
Nor who the golden-haired girl is that sometimes appears in the distance.
All he knows is that if he finally reaches her,
He’ll be home.

Never Know
-continuation of last weeks episode
Link noticed from the moment his girlfriend got home that something was wrong. He assumed it was about work, not taking her crappy mood personally. She’d snapped at Bailey for complaining about his dinner again before storming upstairs to answer Scout’s cries on the baby monitor. Bailey came close to tears in response, explaining to Link that he hadn’t meant to upset her, he just missed his mom’s cooking. Link didn’t know what to tell him other than Amelia didn’t have a good day at work. They’d ended up watching Bailey’s favourite Christmas movie to make him feel better before putting the kids to bed. Link was surprised that Amelia didn’t even come and say goodnight.
“Hey,” he whispered from their doorway, not wanting to wake Ellis. She’d made him read five stories to make up for not being able to come and cuddle with him and Amelia in their bed and Link had done his best to slip out as quietly as possible once she’d fallen asleep.
“Hi,” she responded, not looking up. She was cradling Scout in her chest, Link could see the reflection of tears in her eyes.
“Do you want to talk about it?” He asked, knowing that that’s what she needed. He moved to sit on the bed beside her, kissing their baby boy softly on the forehead as he gurgled drowsily.
“Mer woke up today,” she started.
“Amelia that’s great--”
“Link,” she interrupted, the pain in her eyes stopped him. “She was awake and she was good until she wasn’t. She stood up and then collapsed. Apparently her STATs are declining again and she’d barely conscious. Richard chose to have her intubated.”
“She didn’t want that,” was the only thing Link could think of to say.
“I know.” She shook her head helplessly. “But it’s his choice and I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to help her. She just seemed so good and then she wasn’t. And I know that the kids are going to ask for her, and that’s not their fault, but I don’t know how much longer I can try to convince them that she’s going to be okay. I barely know myself.”
“She’s a fighter.” He tried to offer her some support.
“I know, I always pitied myself for all the shit I’ve been through but hearing her stories makes me feel somewhat normal.” She almost laughed. “But this can’t be the end of her story. Her name is on the freaking hospital. If she goes, we’ll all die with her.”
“That’s a little dramatic.” Link forced a smile, pulling Amelia’s small frame into his chest. She shrugged, the idea seeming completely rational in her eyes. “Can I drive you to a meeting or something?” He asked. “I feel like I’m not helping.”
“I signed up for one tomorrow at noon. You have to book now, cause of the virus.”
“So you’re just supposed to already know if you’re going to have a shitty day?”
“Yeah, exactly,” Amelia grumbled. “Thank you though.” She leaned up and they shared a lingering kiss.
“This guy needs to sleep though,” he chuckled, pulling the sleeping baby out of her grasp.
“But he’s making me feel better,” Amelia whined.
“I’m also pretty good at that,” Link grinned, receiving an eye roll. He placed Scout in the crib that they’d moved back into their room. They’d had him sleeping in Mer’s to get used to being away from his parents but Amelia had called earlier that day to let him know that Mer would be coming home in the next couple of days and he’d decided to move Scout back. He threw on pajamas while he was up before crawling back into bed. Any topic of conversation he tried to bring up wasn’t appealing to his girlfriend and eventually they ended up falling asleep, a little too far apart for Link’s liking.
Amelia was a notoriously late riser. Always pulling on articles of clothing last minute, sometimes even in the car. That brunette cherished every moment of sleep and Link didn’t quite share the same mindset. He spent most of his childhood in a bed and usually so stressed that he would lie awake at night for hours. Eventually he got over the insomnia but to this day has never been one to linger in bed, unless it was for an activity that he and Amelia were barely undertaking at the moment. Though with them both having the day off, he doubted she’d leave their bedroom until at least nine. So when Amelia came trudging down the stairs at seven the next morning Link almost spat out his coffee in surprise. Scout gurgled happily to see his mother, through sips of a bottle.
“You should’ve waited for me to feed him,” Amelia grumbled as she entered the kitchen, her chest always especially sore in the mornings.
“I didn’t expect you to be up for another couple of hours.” Link shrugged, he knew Amelia was going through a lot but her grumpy attitude was starting to drain him.
“We’re doing a group Facetime. Since Maggie and I both have the day off Teddy and Richard want to let us know how she’s doing. Though I doubt Maggie will be up.” Link raised his eyebrows. “Winston got here last night,” she explained.
“Ah,” he replied, removing the empty bottle from Scout’s pudgy hands. “Must be nice.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Her voice was filled with irritation, most likely due to the technological difficulties she seemed to be experiencing from her phone.
“Nothing,” Link sighed. He moved to glance at Amelia’s phone screen. “You’re on mute, babe.”
“Oh.” Teddy’s voice echoed through the kitchen. “Thanks. Where are the kids?”
“All on the Ipads, in their rooms, doing schoolwork.”
“Okay,” Amelia breathed a sigh of relief as she sunk into the dining room chair beside him and let herself become absorbed in the facetime call. Link stood up to finish the dishes from breakfast this morning. Normally Amelia would tell the kids to pick one thing to have but Link couldn’t bring himself to tell Bailey he couldn’t have eggs and Ellis she couldn’t have oatmeal. Zola was also obsessed with smoothies...it was a lot of dishes.
“What do you mean she’s murmuring things about Lexie?” Amelia’s voice brought him back to reality. “Is she hallucinating?” His girlfriend’s voice was getting more and more anxious. “I can come in if you think it's neuro.”
“We don’t know what it is,” Teddy responded, he could tell that she was trying to calm the worried sisters down. “That’s all I have for today. Her lungs are doing better now that they’re resting on the vent. I think that was a smart move. I’ll see you both again at the same time tomorrow for another update and I’ll try to text you if anything changes.”
“Okay, thank you,” Amelia muttered. Link could hear Maggie respond the same before Amelia hung up the phone and placed it on the table in front of her. Link turned to find her with her head in her hands. Her hair was tied up in a loose ponytail with strands falling out, framing her face. He’d forgotten how petite she was until about a week after giving birth. Not that she had even gotten that big when she was carrying Scout. Right now, curled up in the chair with her knees pulled into her chest, she looked almost childlike. He found himself wondering if she was eating enough. He moved to her side and placed a tentative hand on her shoulder. Amelia glanced up at him, brushing the tears from her cheeks. She looked broken. Link almost winced at her expression, as if her pain was being transferred on to him.
“I’m sorry.” Was the only thing he could say.
“It’s okay,” Amelia rested her chin atop her knees. “We’ve just always had a rocky relationship.” Her voice faltered. “If I don’t get to tell her I love her before she dies I...”
“I know,” Link sat down beside her, as she trailed off. “And I know that she knows.”
“And I don’t think I can handle losing anyone else.” She grimaced at the idea, allowing Scout to wrap his fingers around her pinky.
“Well you’ll always have me.”
“Nah, at this point we’re just waiting for cancer to take you out,” she joked, pushing a rather large strand of hair behind her ear.
“I mean I haven’t been getting my regular scans since COVID so I’m sure the first one I’ll get after all this will just light up like a Christmas tree.” Amelia’s eyes darkened. “Hey, I’m kidding.”
“Don’t just look at me. You’ve got this guy to stick around for too.” Link turned to Scout who had been desperately jutting his arms out in his father’s direction, begging to be picked up. Link chuckled, scooping the wiggling baby up into his arms and blowing a raspberry on his exposed stomach. Scout squealed in delight, wrapping his arms around Link’s neck and placing a wet kiss on his cheek. Amelia watched the interaction with a bittersweet smile, the topic of their conversation still looming heavily over them.
“Next time you’re at work you should get scanned.”
“It doesn’t really work like that, babe.” He was still absorbed in Scout’s babbling, repeating some of the baby’s gibberish and receiving lots of giggling. “They’re only taking emergent stuff right now.”
“Well this could be--”
“Mia,” Link sighed, placing the baby down. Scout pouted comically and banged his fists against his highchair. “I’m not emergent. That’s a good thing. Before every scan I had growing up I already knew if it was going to be a good one or a bad one. If I’m in rough shape I can usually tell. There’s symptoms and I’m always on high alert for them, okay?” Amelia nodded.
“Sorry, I just have bad odds.”
“I have great odds. I beat it the first time. I have an amazing wife and baby and job. Your bad odds and my good odds will just cancel out and we’ll have very average odds together.” He was confused as to why Amelia was looking at him like he was crazy. “I mean that might be far fetched but--”
“Wife?” Her heart had skipped a beat. “You have an amazing wife?” Link’s eyes widened before placing a kiss on her forehead and practically running out of the room.
“I dunno what you’re talking about. Definitely don’t want to get married. Haven’t been thinking about it at all. That’s way too soon. I’d be crazy for even thinking about that.” He stopped at the door and peered back at her. “I mean unless you wanted to.”
“Your unbelievable,” Amelia shook her head in amusement as Link left the kitchen. “Your daddy is unbelievable.”

DuckTales Season 3 Episode 22 Review: The Last Adventure!
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This DUCKTALES review contains spoilers.
From the opening moments of DuckTales’ final episode it feels like the end. Almost everyone is here. There’s an extra care put into the scenes, a knowledge that we are in the last hour of their adventures. A last moment of uncomplicated joy before things get messy. And at the center of it all?
Webby. In the beginning she seemed to be the POV character of DuckTales, the one everything seemed to focus around. Some of that was caused by the original air dates of the episodes accidentally putting all her focus episodes at the start but it was a feeling that never left me. The show was an ensemble piece but there was something about Webby that kept her at the forefront. Something that made go, “if anyone had to lay claim as the main character of DuckTales, it’s her.” Boy, was I right about that!
The finale puts her in the middle of everything and finally pays off the mystery set-up at the top of the season. We finally learn about her past and as its slowly revealed it tugs on Webby’s biggest heartstring. Family.
Her clones May and June press her with questions about the family. How none of the people she has connections with are related to her by blood. They aren’t her REAL family. Scrooge’s family isn’t hers. Her friends aren’t family. They play on a fear that’s been deeply held within her, that for all the talk of family is what you make it they still aren’t REALLY family.
It calls into question that critical core element of this new DuckTales. One could argue the show has done a LOT to say family is what you make it and this shouldn’t be a problem for Webby but come on, she has two sisters right in front of her. That would mess with her head and make her feel insecure.
This question of family extends out of Webby’s plotline and to all the others, especially Donald and Della. Donald wants to go off on a big trip with Daisy, intentionally leaving the family behind for the first time in who knows how long. This is a major step for him. He gave up his life to help raise Huey, Dewey, and Louie. He’s stuck by them even as they lived at the mansion. The guy deserves some time with the person he cares about without the weight of responsibility he’s carried for so much of his life.
Della though can’t take it. She tries to get him to reconsider. She has excuse after excuse but the real reason comes out, she doesn’t want to lose any more time with him. She was gone for so long why can’t he stay and make up for that lost time? He could, but as much as Donald loves Della he’s finally putting himself first. Of course Della accepts it because she’s Della and she’s great. I’m so happy they did this with Donald, the guy deserves it. Just because Della wants to spend more time with him doesn’t mean he HAS to. He can take time for himself, he can be his own person, he doesn’t have to be defined by the loss of Della anymore. Of course he’ll still see her and the rest of the family, he’s just going off to start his own part of the family. That’s a crucial element of family as well; you don’t always have to be together.
But of course when Webby and Huey get kidnapped Donald is right there to help and so is everyone else. The whole family rallies together, though Beakley is off on her own. Earlier in the episode Beakley revealed to Webby that she retired specifically because of her. That Webby was more important than anything else and, as we later learn, she gave up taking out F.O.W.L. to do it. There’s a running theme of how much you’ll sacrifice for your family here, as Beakley puts it, “when you find your family you’ll give up everything for them.” It’s well threaded throughout the episode, the biggest example of it of course being the giant mission to storm the temple.
It’s here the family comes up against the biggest nemesis of the series, Bradford. Bradford’s whole deal is that he was the first Woodchuck (and a terrible one.) He wants to rid the world of adventure, contain all the chaos it brings. What does all this mean? Why is he doing this? On first watch it’s a little unclear but when you zoom out Bradford wants to keep the world in order, in check. No deviations, nothing unexpected, no challenges, nothing unpredictable. He claims he’s a businessman, not a villain… but of course he’s a villain because a LOT of business people ARE villainous. Wanting to keep the world in check and playing by their rules is how they keep control. How they stay in power.
Adventures threaten that. They give power to those who don’t have it; they allow a wonder and mystery to fill the world. To give people hope, to bond them together. For Scrooge, it helped create his family. So of course Bradford would try to shut that down, he’s better served if people are unhappy and under his thumb as a businessman. Controlling Scrooge’s money was also a great bonus.
Bradford threatens the very heart of the series, adventures. He uses Webby specifically to gain the ability to take Scrooge’s adventures away… but of course he underestimated the family. He thought creating Webby’s clones would tear them apart, that separating everyone into cages would keep them from rising up… but you can’t stop the Duck family and Webby is the heart and soul of that. Even when she learns she was just another clone that doesn’t stop her for long. For anyone else that might have been a bigger blow but when she learns that Beakley saved her when she was a baby? That Beakley gave up everything for her so that someone would love her? That keeps her going.
That and the fact she’s (more or less) Scrooge’s daughter. Yeah she was made by F.O.W.L. but WHATEVER SHE’S REALLY A BLOOD PART OF THE FAMILY! At this point I was taken aback. Why does Webby NEED to have a blood relation to the family? Why can’t she just be a friend who became a part of the family? Isn’t that what DuckTales has been preaching for its entire run, you don’t have to be related by blood to be family and even if you ARE related by blood that doesn’t always mean you’re like family to someone else.
Some might consider this an easy cop out, a way for Webby to get what she always wants… but it’s so much more than that. Okay yes, Webby was sort of made from Scrooge’s DNA but that still doesn’t automatically make her a part of the family. They could easily reject her for not being “real.”  But everyone in the McDuck family loves her and that’s why she’s family, blood or not. Plus, the rest of the episode goes out of its way to show that damn near every good person the team has met is part of the family. So yes, Webby is now confirmed to be related by blood but that doesn’t undercut DuckTales’ message about family. Lena and Violet are part of the family, Gizmoduck, Darkwing Duck, Gosalyn, Launchpad, EVERYONE. As Webby tells May and June,
“Family are the people who stick by you. Fight for you. Blindly invade a sinister villain’s secret strong hold for you. Family would do anything to keep you safe and sacrifice everything to love you no matter who and what you are. Like Scrooge, like my granny, like you two.” That’s family and that’s DuckTales. Scrooge is willing to sacrifice it all, to give up adventuring… but FAMILY is the greatest adventure of all! It’s so powerful it breaks the most powerful magic contract of ALL TIME. BOOM, FAMILY!
‘The Last Adventure’ was nothing short of an absolute masterpiece, the closest thing to a true 2017 DuckTales movie we’ll ever get. The action was big, damn near every character from the show made it in, and it capped off everything so beautifully. It’s stunning how many references and characters are squeezed in here but it never feels rushed or over bloated. All the references work, whether you know the deep cuts or not. My personal favorite was the revelation that Manny is no intern… he’s actually The Headless Manhorse of the Apocalypse AND HE LIVES AGAIN… voiced by Keith David. It’s such an elaborate Gargoyles reference but even if you don’t know that it’s hilarious to see this new side of Manny.
There’s too many moments to talk about. So many little bits that could deserve full articles on their own. Della using her leg like an axe, B.O.Y.D. being just a head, or Launchpad becoming Gizmoduck! If you’ve been reading all my DuckTales reviews you know how much I’ve loved the character of Lena and just seeing her there at the end as part of the family made me smile and warmed my heart. She went through so much and look where she is now, she has people who love her AND she’s a superhero.
As the credits rolled and all the characters we’ve all grown to love soared past the screen for the final time, it hit me just how much I’m going to miss DuckTales. I’ve reviewed every single episode of the series and it has been an immense privledge. The level of care and creativity that went into every single aspect of the series did not go unnoticed. The people behind the scenes truly delivered something special, a series that will stand the test of time as not just a worthy entry into the Duck universe or just a Disney cartoon series, but as an absolutely wonderful show all on its own. It was incredibly funny, joyously warm, and knew how to hit you with some major life lessons. Lena’s story arc in particular will always stick with me and works as a gut wrenching portrayal of the effects of abuse. Her story was just an example of DuckTales as its strongest, when it was able to use it stories to hold up a mirror to our own lives and safely let us explore them. While also giving us a lot of laughs.
DuckTales has power; it’ll keep having power. Now that the show’s ended I have no doubt more people will check it out on Disney + and realize how special it was. How great it was. How even if it still had more stories to tell it still gave all it had.
Thank you for everything, DuckTales. You’ll never be forgotten.

Wanna be tagged in/out? Just tell me!
For once, you took a day off "work" and enjoyed the sun and nature that surrounded the motel.
You needed to reflect. You would have liked to accept Sam's proposal immediately, but at the same time you didn't want to endanger anyone else except yourself.
You walked slowly on a dirt path in the small wood in front of the motel. It was a pretty remote place if it weren't for the 24-hour supermarket.
You would have liked to have a plan, you thought, but it wasn't like that at all and you didn't even know where to start. However, you had some information about your evil relatives, they had the money to do everything even make you disappear into thin air.
Part of you was hoping they had forgotten about you after all these years.
Was it really better to leave it to someone else like Sam said?
Small parrots caught your attention. Their feathers were bright green and their noises resounded in the air. They hopped pecking at the ground looking for food a few meters from you. They reminded you of your old house where, in the middle of the large flower garden, there was a fountain where in summer the birds went to cool off.
That memory convinced you even more to want to take everything back even at the cost of risking your life. Then you resumed your march and the parrots soared into the sky as you passed by.
 Meanwhile at the motel Sam was making some phone calls:
“Hey old man, how are you doing? ... Yes, yes, I guess so ... Listen, I have a job that might interest you ... It is an inheritance ... Yes ... But the client has yet to give me a certain answer ... As soon as I know something I'll let you know ... OK, ok ... See you soon. "
He threw the phone on the bed and left the room to get a breath of fresh air. It was not easy to find someone, his bad friendships became fewer with the story of the marriage, he had had to cut many bridges because he wanted to start over.
The man had not remained idle while you were out clearing your train of thoughts, he had investigated you and your family.
Your parents were two patrons, two wealthy people who helped less fortunate kids to study and emerge. They were philanthropists, but also the black sheep of their respective families.
Your relatives, on the other hand, were rich stingy bourgeois and bad-hearted, and certainly did not look favorably on the choices of your mother and father.
Sam had even found a couple of newspaper articles reporting the discovery of two corpses, your parents’, but no mention of you.
The bodies had been found following an anonymous phone call received by the police. Together with them documents attesting to debts and tax fraud were found, which for the lazy and corrupt policemen they represented the motive for the death of the two people.
For them, your father would have killed your mother, after which he would have hang himself. A cliché.
“A big mansion, two rich people found dead in a suspicious circumstance, money, different opinions, corrupt police, a 'daughter' ... Interesting” thought Sam.
The man discovered that your mother had had a daughter, but she disappeared into thin air years later. No other births. The date of birth and your age did not match, so he deduced that you probably must have been adopted. Except that there was no sheet to prove it.
Sam needed to know more about you. So he waited patiently for your return plunging back into the search for more.
 You came back from your walk, you were calmly walking to the room where you had spent the night. The sun was setting. You knocked on the door, but no one answered. You knocked again. Nothing. You decided to forget about manners and try to open the door. It was open.
"Who the hell is it that doesn't lock the door in such remote place like this ?!" you murmured to yourself.
Upon entering you noticed that the room had been rearranged, the bed had clean sheets and your dirty clothes, which you had left on the floor that morning, had been folded and placed on the desk under the window.
There was a scent of cleanliness and everything made you feel a sensation of warmth in your chest.
You entered on tiptoe almost for fear of ruining that order, you crouched on the ground to take off your boots. Once barefoot, you went to bed and sat down waiting for some sign of life, a noise, anything that would tell you where your roommate was.
Then suddenly the door of the bathroom opened making you jump, you saw clothes fly and land on the floor in front of the bed. You thought it best to emit a rattle to signal your presence and if it wasn't for that you would have found the naked figure of Sam in front of you.
The man promptly tied a towel around his waist and when he crossed the threshold of the bathroom he said:
" You're back!"
You were a bit stunned to see him shirtless and from the towel you could get an idea of the man's virility. A shiver ran down your spine. He was a captivating type, there was no doubt.
“Y-yes, I'm back. I-I tried to knock ... "
"Oh yes? I didn't hear" he said, running his hands through his still damp hair "I was taking a shower”.  At the base of his neck, his hair rolled up into more accentuated curls than usual.
"Where have you been?" he asked you taking another towel and passing it over his chest.
It felt like the beginning of a porn movie.
"Ah-um, I took a walk in the woods in front ..." you looked away from him who was now smiling slyly.
"Do you like what you see?" he said.
You blushed and laughed "Idiot, stop it, you make me uncomfortable ..."
He laughed hard as he took clean clothes from a bag in the closet.
"I thought you weren't coming back."
Suddenly a detail struck you, the man's left side showed round scars.
"What are those?" you asked to distract yourself from your obscene thoughts.
"A little memory of Panama, you know I liked it so much that ... well ... I always carry it with me" he chuckled.
You felt the urge to touch those wounds, to understand if they were true or not. Your body moved by itself, you crawled over to Sam and reached out. Your index finger now was brushing those circles of brown and jagged skin. He didn't move, he stayed there giving you his side. You could perceive the diversity of the skin, however soft, and under it the muscles that characterized the figure of the man.
"Did it hurt?" you asked.
"Like hell" he answered in a low voice.
"How did you do?"
At your touch Sam let out a small muffled moan and said "...They shot me."
"... oh ..." you were captured by those jagged circles.
Then suddenly he moved away and said "Now you do understand why you shouldn’t play with weapons?"
"Sorry ..." you said realizing what you just did. You had just touched his weakest points. And he had let you do it.
He smiled putting on a clean white T-shirt, then with jeans and a pair of boxers in his right hand he went to the bathroom to get dressed.
He came out dressed, clean and fragrant.
"I thought we could go get something to eat" he proposed.
Your stomach felt more empty than ever, so you accepted.
 You were walking towards the supermarket, you with your hands in your coat pockets and him smoking.
"You are the first person who decides to help me" you said.
Puffs of white smoke left Sam's lips "Well, if you had told someone what happened to you, maybe they would have helped you."
You weren't convinced then he added  "Surely, if I hadn't found your backpack you wouldn't have told me anything, and you would have just run away like you always have."
He read your mind, so you bit your lip and smirking you said "How do you know this?
Sam looked at you from his height "I put and two together. It didn't take a genius to figure it out. I did these things too. "
"Then don't lecture me" you teased him.
"You're better than me, that's why I'm warning you" he concluded.
 Finally you arrived at the supermarket, crossing the threshold the bell placed at the top of the door rang, signaling the entrance of customers.
"What do you want to eat?" Sam asked.
You just had to put anything under your teeth, so you ordered the attendant behind the bread counter to prepare you some sandwiches to eat on the fly.
During the preparation of what would be your dinner, you took a tour of the supermarket shelves.
Earlier, at the motel, you noticed the now empty bottle of Scotch, so you thought about getting one of the same brand. You grabbed the bottle and went back to Sam.
“I saw that you finished it" you said.
The man gave you a quick glance, then looked into his pockets and counted the money he had left.
"I think we would need a trick to get it" he winked at you and added "See how it’s done!"
With the sandwiches ready and the bottle of liquor you went to the cash desk where the usual swooning and provocative blonde whom Sam already knew was waiting.
"Hi handsome" she said.
"Hi honey, how are you?" Sam answered placing the items on the counter.
She leaned forward as usual to show her breasts "Now that I see you I'm fine"
"I guessed so" the man said letting his eyes wander over her.
"Who is she?" said the blonde pointing at you with her head.
“She is my little sister! We haven't seen each other for a long time, so tonight we wanted to celebrate "
The blonde was loudly chewing a chewing-gum and she was winking at Sam so constantly that she was almost annoying.
"You know..." Sam continued using his mellowest voice "I don't have enough cash with me ... So I thought we could make a trade, honey ..."
She melted like chocolate in the sun.
"What time do you finish, beauty?" Sam said moving closer to her face.
"At 11 pm I finish my shift ..." she said out of breath.
“I'll wait for you outside, what do you think? Me and you... ?" he continued.
She nodded biting her lower lip.
And that was how Sam got the free bottle of Scotch.
On the way to the motel you suddenly turned to the man "Are you really going?"
"Who knows" he replied.
You scrutinized it carefully and after a few minutes of silence you continued "I don't think you will go there"
"And how do you know?" he retorted.
"it's a feeling. You just wanted the bottle of Scotch, you don't give a damn about her "
"Atta girl, I see that we understand each other on the fly. You are impressive ... Furthermore she had floppy tits" he added.
It made you both laugh.
The evening passed quietly between Sam’s stories, time flew. It was a long time since you had such a good time, not to mention the fact that his stories were exciting.
Both of you were bit high from the alcohol and he seemed happier than when you first saw him.
"So?" you said interrupting the speech.
"So what?"
"...Will you help me?" you told him.
"I was waiting for you to ask me... I think so" he replied, lighting a cigarette.
You got up from the bed where you were sitting, you staggered towards him and, while Sam controlled your movements without understanding what you wanted to do, you approached his face. You gave him an intense look that left him breathless, whispered a "Thank you" and stole the cigarette from his hands.
He didn't resist nor react. He stood there motionless contemplating you. After a moment he recovered and laughed out loud "Hey that was mine!" he yelled.
Night fell, Sam slept on the floor to let you sleep in the bed.
 The next day you found breakfast again and Sam was waiting for you to wake up sitting next to you on the bed, his back against the wall.
"Hey ..." he said "it's time to get up ..." he moved the locks of hair in front of your closed eyes.
Slowly you became aware "G-Good morning ..."
"Come on sleepyhead, there's coffee ... and... we have an appointment ..."
You sat down too, while Sam handed you the cup of hot coffee.
"Thank you..."
He smiled at you soflty.
Sipping the drink you asked him for more information about the appointment he had just mentioned.
"What do we have to do?"
"We have to meet a person the will help us."
You were surprised. Now you had two people to rooting for you.
"Oh..."
“Don't worry, you will thank us when done. Come on, go wash your face, he will be here soon. "
Taken by anxiety, you gulped the coffee in a single sip and catapulted to the bathroom to wash and dress.
After the shower you changed your clothes and decided to wear a dress that your mother had given you years ago.
Once out of the bathroom Sam couldn't help but notice a new side of you, a more feminine side that you apparently tended to hide.
He whistled at you and said "How cute we are"
You blush saying "My mother gave it to me years ago, I think it's the right time to wear it"
He looked at you from head to toe, made a grimace of approval and added "It fits you divinely."
You blushed again.
The magic moment was interrupted by someone knocking on the door.
"Here he is!" Sam nimbly jumped out of bed to open the door.
A middle-aged man with white hair and a bright look was out there.
“Hey Victor! Long time no see!"
"Hi Sam!"
The two hugged and patted each other on the back while you waited for introductions.
"So, Samuel Drake, will you let me in?" said the older man.
"You're welcome" replied the younger one and clearing his throat added "Ahem, this is the disinherited princess", he put both hands on your shoulders "She is Y / N  Y / L / N"
"Hello ..." you held out your hand.
"My pleasre Miss, I'm Victor" he shook your hand. His grip was as strong and firm as Sam's, and from that detail you felt you could trust him too.
Sully took a seat in the chair in the room and you and Sam took place on the edge of the bed.
"So, where do we start?" Victor asked.
Sam waved at you to invite you to speak.
You were so uncomfortable having to tell about your misadventure that you were torturing your fingernails.
Sam noticed your discomfort, so he took one of your hands in his and squeezed them tightly to give you courage. With a smile he gave you another nod and pointing to Sully he said “You can rest assured. Victor and I have known each other for a lifetime, he is a person you can trust, just like me. "
The older man then spoke up and began "I did a lot of research on your family. And you ... you don't appear anywhere. To help you, we need as much details as possible. You can trust me, I give you my word" he concluded putting a hand on his heart.
You held your breath for a couple of seconds, then let yourself go.
“Ok ... I can do it ... I was taken into the house by Mrs. and Mr. Y / L / N when I was about 4 years old. I was part of one of the groups that they followed and to which they gave financial aid to study. Like me, many of my companions had no parents, however, among many, they decided to keep me by their side as if I were their daughter. Only later I understood why: I resembled their missing daughter. Similar eyes, similar attitudes. I heard rumors about this missing daughter of theirs, she wasn't dead, just one day she vanished into thin air. Not being able to have other children, the Lady taught me to call them mom and dad. I grew up with them, studied with them every day of my life. I lacked nothing and I was happy. "
The two men were attentive to every single word that came from your lips. Serious and silent. Occasionally Sam stroked your hands with his thumb and that comforting feeling made you feel good.
“Then one day… I was playing hide and seek with a partner of mine and… I happened to witness an argument between my parents and one of my father's brothers. He brought misfortune, I felt it ... I had never seen my father so agitated ... but at the same time he was determined to continue on his path. "
A tear ran down your face. You stopped your story for a moment as Sam's grip tightened. That gesture moved you and spurred you to go on.
“My father's brother used to say that my parents were doing something wrong and that they should think before doing such a stupid thing. I didn't understand what they were talking about ... I remained hidden listening all the time. Until at a certain point everything was clear: my parents had decided to adopt me and make me the only heir to their inheritance. My relatives, on the other hand, wanted the inheritance for themselves. But my father and my mother had already begun the procedures to adopt me. "
At the word inheritance Sam and Victor threw a knowing look at each other while you continued to unravel the facts.
"My parents ... wanted to remove all their family members from the inheritance because they were people who used the money only for their own purposes, while mom and dad invested in the less fortunate generations ... So to get the inheritance they would have to eliminate me. "
You grasoed Sam's hand and continued in a low voice "... Until one day I’ve found my father hanged and my mother motionless on the ground ..."
Sam interrupted "...Did you do the anonymous phone call?"
You nodded in tears "Yes ... Yes ... It was me who found them ... I felt the world collapse, so I did the wisest thing to do at that moment: run away. It wasn't easy, they tried to track me down, I had a fight with my father's brother, I shot him in the leg as a result of his assault, luckily I didn't end up in prison ... then I finally ran away and they didn't come looking for me anymore. .. "
Sully pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his shirt pocket, took one and lit it. He had to ease the tension of the moment. He took a puff of smoke and asked "How long have you been on the run?"
You looked up at him "About 10 years ..."
"Man..." Sam commented.
You dried another tear.
"Could you give us some information about your relatives or about this uncle of yours?" Victor asked.
"He is the most dangerous, the others are simply inepts, but him ... he is a true son of a bitch."
"I learned that he is a drug dealer" added the elderly man.
"Among the many things ..." you commented.
"... and it seems that he has some kind of bodyguard" concluded Victor turning to Sam.
Sam gave him a questioning look.
You looked at them with horror in the eyes and tearing your hand from those of the younger man you burst into a desperate cry "I'll never make it ..."
Sam wrapped you in his arms and you let yourself go to a convulsive cry.
The two men were now looking into each other's eyes. Then Victor said "The bodyguard is only one"
Upon hearing those words Sam felt relieved, but his attitude soon changed when the other man added:
"... she's a woman".
Sam shivered, his guts twitched, his sixth sense was telling him that if Victor had specified such a trifle it meant that in reality it was not at all, but it was a fundamental detail.
"... Do you believe that ...?"
Sully nodded.
"Fuck ..." Sam murmured bringing a hand to his face while he squeezed you with the other.

After her marriage with Frank Randall has failed and Claire Beauchamp flees from her violent husband, she finds refuge in the house of the Fraser/Murray family in Berlin-Wilhelmshorst. But then tensions arise between Britain (which has since left the EU) and some EU member states. All holders of an English passport are required to leave EU territory within six weeks … and suddenly Claire’s fate looks more uncertain than ever.

Chapter 2: 14 Men (1)
        James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser was born and raised in the Scottish Highlands. But the development of world history made it impossible for him to spend the rest of his life in his beloved homeland.         Well-read in European history and as a keen observer of global political developments, he had guessed early on that the hard "Brexit" of Great Britain would lead the (until then) United Kingdom into an unprecedented chaos.

         When the Corona Pandemic ebbed in Europe and the British Isles and travel restrictions were largely lifted, James Fraser, as head of his clan, decided it was high time to leave the country he and his family loved so much. Many people around him, especially the other 13 members of the "New Jacobites", felt the same way. Some of his friends emigrated to the Republic of Ireland, others to France or the Netherlands. For Jamie and his family another door had opened many years before.          Jared Fraser, one of Jamie's uncles, had gone to Paris in his youth and (starting from the French capital) had built up a flourishing, Europe-wide wine trade. He had also opened a branch in Berlin. From there the entire business for Germany and South-East Europe was coordinated. In order to save taxes and to invest the proceeds of his business profitably despite the European Central Bank's zero-interest policy at that time, Jared Fraser had bought real estate. Among the houses he had purchased in the state of Brandenburg was a well-preserved manor house just some kilometers outside of the German capital. After his death, this part of Jared's estate had fallen to Jamie and his sister Jenny.
         So it came about that on the day it was decided at Westminster that the emergency laws passed because of the Corona Pandemic should remain in force, a container ship left the port of Edinburgh for the port of Rostock. The containers it was carrying contained most of the Fraser/Murray family's movable property. The family itself, Jamie, Ian, Jenny and the children, had boarded a Norwegian Airlines plane the night before, which took them to Berlin-Schönefeld Airport within four and a half hours with a stopover at Oslo-Gardermoen.          When they arrived at the airport, Felix Kloppstock, the vice manager of the Berlin headquarters, who had become a trusted employee of Jared Fraser, had picked them up in a minibus owned and used by one of the wine shops. When they arrived in Wilhelmshorst near Potsdam, the house was already prepared for them. The beds were made and the smell of roast venison came from the kitchen, letting them know that dinner was ready. They were then greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Ballin. The 55-year-old housekeeper Helene and her husband Frieder had also been hired by Jared Fraser and entrusted with the management of the house years ago.          When all the Frasers/Murrays fell into their beds late in that night, they did so with one laughing and one crying eye. Laughing because they knew they were safe now. Crying because they missed their home. And James Fraser was thinking about  something else entirely. He was grateful that his parents didn’t had to witness the political developments of the present day. At the same time, he was overcome with a feeling of great sadness when he thought that he would probably not be able to visit their graves in the cemetery near Lallybroch for a very long time.

         Just a few days after their arrival at their new home at Wilhelmshorst, they were to learn from the media how right and decisive their step had been. They had put the children to bed after dinner and were now sitting together in the kitchen for a while. Jenny became as white as a sheet when the radio reported that the London government had announced that it would now explicitly use the emergency laws to take action against the Scottish independence movement, which was growing bigger and louder with every single day. Anyone suspected of being part of the "New Jacobites" or their followers should be arrested and charged with high treason. Ian, who was sitting next to Jenny at the kitchen table, looked up in horror. Jamie, who had just taken two bottles of beer from the fridge for himself and Ian, turned, looked at them and just sighed.
         "This is what I've always been afraid of. But don't worry, our naturalization papers. identity cards and passports are on their way. I spoke to Ernst last night."
         Ernst, more precisely Ernst Neuenburger, was Under State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics. Jamie had met the official in 2018, when his uncle Jared took him to the ministry's summer party, introducing his nephew to the network he had been building across Europe for many years. (More than anybody else outside Scotland, Jared Fraser had dedicated his life with great zeal to the service of the "New Jacobites". Wherever on the continent he could, he had used his influence and financial resources to promote an independent Scotland with good relations to the EU).          James Fraser and Ernst Neuenburger were immediately sympathetic to each other. And in the course of the day, Jamie discovered that Ernst Neuenburger was not only a competent interlocutor in economic matters, but that he had also a great affection for Scotland.

         "If we take the right of self-determination of peoples seriously, as laid down in Article 1(2) of the UN Charter, through the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of December 19, 1966, then Scotland must be given the right to be a State in its own right," the Under Secretary of State had said.
         Jamie had nodded in agreement and then, more jokingly, asked:
         "Are you secretly a Jacobite, Mr. Neuenburger?"
         "No, Mr. Fraser," the politician had replied with a smile, but with a very serious undertone in his voice, "I don't think you have to belong to any special group to stand up for freedom and self-governemenrt. To be a democrat is, in my opinion, quite enough."
         Neuenburger, who obviously enjoyed talking to Jared Fraser's nephew, took a quick look around.
         "Why don't we take a few steps," he then said, pointing with one hand towards a path that would lead them away from the center of the festival.
         "Gladly," Jamie replied, and together they moved away from the crowd. Jamie well remembered seeing his uncle Jared as he walked away, talking to a man and a woman in the shade of a high hedge, also a little away from everyone else. Jared had smiled, nodded briefly to his nephew and then immediately returned to his conversation partners.
         When they had moved about two hundred yards away, it was Jamie who resumed the conversation:
         "It's interesting that you say that as a German, we're only used to revolutionary sounds from French people. The French supported us in earlier centuries, but the Germans..."
         "If I may say so, Mr. Fraser," Neuenburger interjected, "the Germans didn't exist then. When the French supported the Scots, thanks to the political intrigues of the French, the Austrians and the Russians, there was only a patchwork of small and tiny German countries. It was Bismarck..."
         "I know, I know. But they were Germans, the King of Hanover..."
         "Oh, yes, of course. And no need you remind me that the Kingdom of Prussia was allied with the Kingdom of Hanover... But you know the saying: 'You can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends'. As you may know, George August II was a cousin of Frederick William I, the father of Frederick the Great. Both George II and Frederick I were brought up by their common grandmother, the Electoress Sophie at the palace of Herrenhausen near Hanover. It has been historically recorded that the men already had an aversion to each other as children. This aversion continued later, when they became men or kings, respectively."
         Neuenburger paused with his remarks when a waitress appeared with a tray of glasses filled with champagne and offered them to the two men. Both men exchanged their empty glasses for full ones and continued their walk.
         "Twice it almost came to war between Hanover and Prussia. Did you know that?" asked Neuenburger.
         Jamie looked at him questioningly and shook his head slightly.
         "In 1731 there was a dispute between the kingdoms and the royal families because Prussia was recruiting settlers wherever possible. George II issued an edict and assembled an army on the banks of the river Elbe. Friedrich Wilhelm I, on the other hand, had 40,000 soldiers stationed at Magdeburg to defend his territory if necessary. The dukes of Brunswick and Gotha mediated and were able to settle the dispute to a certain extent. A war was prevented.          But it was a cold peace. At the same time as the Scottish resistance was crushed at Culloden, another dispute between Hanover and Prussia was smouldering. After the death of the last prince from the house of Cirksena in 1744, it was disputed who would inherit the county of East Frisia. On the part of the Frisian princes there had been a contract of inheritance with Hanover since 1691, but Frederick I had received a “Letter of Expektanz”, meaning an actual entitlement, from Emperor Leopold on 10 December 1694, which said, that after the extinction of the princely house of East Frisia the county should fall to the kingdom of Prussia. The decisive factor in this conflict, however, was the city of Emden. At that time the town was politically isolated and economically weakened. The reason for this was the “War of Appelle” fought in 1726/27.          This war was actually a civil war and resulted from a conflict between Prince Georg Albrecht of East Frisia and the East Frisian Estates. It was, how could it be otherwise, about the tax sovereignty. But even after their defeat, the city leaders did not give up their goal of making Emden an important economic metropolis again.          Since the 'Emden Revolution' in 1595 the city had the status of a quasi-autonomous urban republic. In this - successful - revolution the city had already freed itself once from the rule of the Cirksena and, as a ‘satellite’ of the Netherlands, achieved de facto the status of a free imperial city. From then on, the representatives of the city signed all contracts and public publications according to the Roman model with ‘S.P.Q.E.’ (Senate and People of Emden). The title ‘Respublica Emdana’ and the abbreviation ‘S. P. Q. E.’ were from then on officially used by the city.          Understandable that the aldermen of the town wanted to return to this freedom and independence, which they had already once enjoyed. When the last Cirksena Prince took over his reign in 1734, the city had already refused to pay homage to him. But at least from 1740 on, the Emden councillors planned to achieve their goal with the help of the Prussian King. Secretly they negotiated the ‘Emden Convention’ with the Prussians. In this treaty, Prussia recognized the rights and privileges of the city of Emden and the East Frisian estates, and in return the East Frisian estates recognized the rule of Prussia after the death of the last prince from the house of Cirksena. It was a win-win situation. Prussia left the East Frisians and their estates the liberties they had enjoyed before and in return received a land with access to the North Sea. On 25 May 1744, two weeks after the Emden Convention had been ratified by both parties, the last prince of East Frisia died. Prussia immediately asserted its right of succession. The widowed Princess of East Frisia, a relative of Friedrich II, recognised the succession of Prussia on May 26th and recommended herself ‘to the protection and generosity of the King’. Frederick II had immediately instructed his representatives to make it known everywhere that the privileges and rights of the East Frisians would remain undiminished and that no enticement of East Frisian citizens was to be feared. With this reassuring message, the Prussian soldiers in Aurich and Leer were even positively received. The seizure of possession was already completed on June 2, just one week after the death of the Prince. Three weeks later, on June 23, 1744, the entire county paid homage to the Prussian Crown.

         What do you think, Fraser? Did they rejoice at it in Hanover, or better, in  London? I don't think so. On June 3, the Hanoverian official Voigt arrived in East Frisia with papers demanding the rights of the Hanoverians. But there the whole thing was already finished. The speed with which the takeover of East Frisia took place, made possible by the careful and secret preparation, once again put the Hanoverian competitor in the shade. One cannot avoid the impression of dilettantism on the part of Hanover. It is true that they had also reacted immediately there by sending Voigt to East Frisia on June 3, with a corresponding power of attorney, but nobody wanted to accept him or his claims officially. On June 10, the Estates very aptly informed him that the contract which had been concluded between the House of Cirksena and the House of Hanover was neither known to them nor did it concern them, since neither they nor the Emperor had approved the document. East Frisia was also supposed to have a potential for conflict for some time to come. In 1748 the disputes over maritime trade became more intense, especially with the Netherlands, but also with England and Sweden. During the Seven Years' War, however, England then needed the support of Prussian soldiers and only in the course of this did it give up all claims in relation to East Frisia."
         The two men had stopped and emptied their glasses.
         "Why are you telling me all of this?"

         "Well, you said it was unusual to hear 'revolutionary' sounds from a German. Surely, as Frederick Engels once said, ‘revolutions in Prussia are made from above’. We may not be as revolutionary as the French, but please remember that we are a very, very freedom-loving people. The history of the First and Second World Wars is well known. However, the history of the our war of libration, 1813 to 1815, against Napoleon is often overlooked. The support from the people was so great that some historians even speak of the Prussian People's War. Men and women exchanged their golden wedding rings for iron rings to support their country. The phrase ‘gold I gave for iron’ became something like a proverb. A well-known picture, which spread after the wars of liberation, shows a returning soldier. He does not call out to his wife, who welcomes him with open arms, ‘I am back’ but ‘The fatherland is free! Victoria!' And it wasn't just then. Remember that this country has been struggling for 40 years to be reunited and thus to be free. Not aggressively, but with endurance. And when the Germans in the East brought down the SED regime, it was a peaceful revolution that brought the dictatorship to its knees. What do you think, Fraser, the people here would feel for a people that is oppressed by its, shall we say, bigger neighbour?"
         Neuenburger slowly began to walk again. Jamie latched on.
         "Why exactly are you telling me all of this?" he asked.
         "Well, perhaps I wanted to remind you that revolutionary, i.e. cataclysmic, thoughts don't always have to unload themselves in a storm of the Bastille. Sometimes it is wiser to keep them to yourself and ... say, wait for the ratification of an Emden Convention. As far as I know, a freedom-loving people will always welcome and ... support the freedom, or rather the liberation, of another people.”
         Neuenburger smiled. Jamie shook his head slightly and smiled too.
         "Come Fraser," the newfound friend then said, "let's go. The buffet is open."
         The conversation between the two men was not without consequences. Twice, once in autumn 2018 and once in summer 2019, Ernst Neuenburger had visited the Frasers' home estate in the Scottish Highlands as a holiday guest, before political events made these trips impossible for him. But the two men's confidence in each other had grown during these weeks of walking, horseback riding and hunting together, to the point that by the end of 2020 Jamie was able to make contact with his friend in Berlin unnoticed (through previously agreed 'private' channels). Everything that happened then, that had to happen to bring the Fraser/Murray family into safe exile, happened very quickly. It had to happen very quickly because the window of opportunity to do so was, as in any historical moment, only open for a very short time.

         On the first Saturday evening that the Frasers/Murrays spent in their new home, Ernst Neuenburger came by to deliver the passports, identity cards and naturalisation papers for all family members. Jenny invited him for dinner and afterwards Jamie and the guest went to the library to talk in private.          After the two men had discussed the political situation in Europe for a while over a glass of whisky in front of the fireplace, Ernst Neubauer leaned over to his host..
         "We have a question for you..."
         It had been clear to James Fraser that sooner or later Neuburger would approach him with a request. He didn't see it as extortion or payment. On the contrary, he was grateful if he could do something in return for the privileges granted. He would have been reluctant to remain a debtor to his friend.
         "You must believe me when I tell you I didn't plan this. I have and will continue to do everything I can to help you and your family with great joy ..."
         "Speak Ernst, straight forward."
         "Well, you have some skills that would be very useful to us. You speak English, perfect French, very good German. You are intelligent and a man who can keep quiet. You also have a thriving wine trade and as a businessman..."
         "... I can travel anywhere without raising suspicion?”
         "Right. But the most important thing is that I trust you."
         The men were silent for a moment.
         "Would you be willing," Neuenburger then asked, "to act as an negotiator on our behalf and travel when necessary?"
         "Shall I conclude ‘Emden conventions’ for the country?"
         "Maybe."
         Neuenburger had to smile. What a good memory Fraser owned!
         "And where would that lead me to?"
         "Well, first of all, to the African continent. 116 million Africans in 31 countries speak French. And counting. Your language skills predestine you for tasks in this field. However, we would ask you to learn Spanish and possibly Portuguese as well. Then we could also send you to  South America. Of course, we will provide you with a language teacher paid by us."
         Again the men were silent for a moment.
         "How dangerous could these 'missions' be for me?" Jamie then asked.
         "Not particularly," replied Neuenburger. "You are travelling as a businessman and that causes far less sensation than the travels of a politician or a political official. There are quite a number of, shall we say, colleagues of yours who do that for us. So far, every one of them has returned. We will, of course, prepare you thoroughly for your task."
         Jamie pondered for a moment, then nodded and answered:
         "Travailler pour le roi de Prusse? Jes suis prest! This country has provided me and my family with freedom and a new start here. If we were not here, I would probably be in an English prison by now. It's only fair that I give something back.”
         "Thanks," said Neuenburger and went on “It’s not the King of Prussia, but a democratic republic you serve. Just saying.”          Then he reached into the right inside pocket of his jacket and took out a fresh passport, which he handed to Jamie.
         Jamie reached for it and opened the little red book.
         "Well, well, well, you've thought up a nice alias for me."
         Neuenburger smiled.

         Four weeks later, Etienne Marcel de Provac Alexandre, alias James Fraser, began his first trip as a well-camouflaged diplomatic negotiator.
         This and other journeys were to take him first to numerous states on the African continent. He negotiated political and economic contracts with other negotiators, lobbied for the release and repatriation of citizens in difficulty and delivered oral messages whose content was too secret to be transmitted by paper or electronic means. From 2023 on, when he became fluent in Spanish, he was also send to South America. One of his last trips took him to Buenos Aires, where he signed a trade agreement. Officially, however, he attended the "Conference of Argentine and Chilean Wine Merchants". In order to make his trip as unobtrusive as possible, he did not fly back to Berlin directly, but made a stopover in Boston. There, officially, he would meet a businessman, a friend, who was planning to include the wines which  Etienne Marcel de Provac Alexandre sold, in his range. But in reality, this stopover was to change his life fundamentally. But James Fraser knew nothing of this when his plane landed at Logan International Airport.

Punk!Marinette - A Short Drabble-
Marinette Helps Adrien out of a Tree
 I have been going down holes as I avoid spoilers. Even found my unfinished writing about Punk! Marinette just had to polish it up. Inspired from art under the punk Marinette tag and @musicfeedsmysoul12 who wrote some things on this au.
Also I’m slowly posting my work at ao3 to make it easier to find, my username is bugaboo0scrambles for anyone interested.
Marinette clicked her tongue with satisfaction. Admiring her work with her mirror. With years and years of practice, applying winged eyeliner still seems like a game of Russian roulette. Going perfectly amazing or making her say “screw it” before giving herself a smoky eye to cover it up the ‘step-sisters’ she painted on her lids. Yet, it was a part of her routine, something she kept since that summer ago spent watching strangers talk about products and brushes.
The laces on her boots drew out the gap between leather and skin as if it was a long sign. Marinette tugged on her laces tighter before reaching a fixed level of security. Fitting in like a second skin. Her hand smoothed over her slick new shoes, relishing its aesthetic allure and not helping the snicker that came up her throat. The heels on this pair were a whopping 3 and a half inches. Nothing major compared to the other shoes on display in the market, but it was enough to give her the needed height to make her a pinch taller then Alya.
With that, she carefully went down the stairs. Watching her step as she got comfortable to the new height. Accepting her death only twice while she barely caught herself from tumbling down the stairs.
Stuffing the long laces into the inside of her boots before making it out of the backdoor of the house. Her hand on the doorknob, other on her hip. Calling out to her parent goodbye as the front of the bakery buzzed with customers.
Nibbled on her maroon-stained lips before checking the trash can. Emptying it to before her parents forgot about it.
The fresh air outside was mixed with the sounds of cars and that horrible unidentifiable “alley smog” rushing to her head. Pushing the plastic bag out the doorway and into the alley. Stepping out before her dad escaped the customers to plot a kiss on her daughter’s head. His beard carried traces of flour while his apron was clean except the splash of fruit-filling by his knee. Wishing Marinette good luck at school before he rushed to get more ingredients as her mother yelled from the front to take care.
Marinette lightly swept her bangs to get rid of her father’s messy, flour kiss. All while her nose crinkled at the smell of day-old eggshells and butter wrappers. Holding her breath and feeling her wrist twist as she opened the dumpster to throw in the trash. Not helping the gag that came up as the garbage smelt of sun-baked vomit cookies. Letting go of the metal lid causing it to slam shut. If her caffeinated tea didn’t wake her up, then that harsh sound did. Even scaring off the black cat that slept peacefully before screeching off into the street.
-----
“How lame.” Chloe scoffed. Rolling her head like a rag doll as she raised her sunnies from her clear-blue eyes. Her nails, done and polished, flicked the lone blonde strand over her ear.
“Nice shoes, Mari!” She yelled. Booming her voice through the quad. “Matches the whole clown suit too!”
Marinette flipped her off without even looking in her direction. Making her way to the other end of the school to meet up Alya. The one classmate that could manage a conversation with her without being intimidated.
Alya typed swiftly on her keyboard without bothering to look at the keys. A skill that Marinette envied and Alya swore to be like second nature after months of drafting sharp observations over comics, movies and Paris local heroes on her blogs. She sported the denim jacket Marinette decorated for her with patches and pins all with a khaki pleated skirt. Topping it off with her very own white-tee. Her new merch, a commission by Marinette, for her Ladyblog.
“Alya.”
“Marinette.”
Marinette threw her bag under her before lifting her ankles to cross her legs. Rocking back and forth, waiting for the typing to slow down. Once it did, it reached a sudden stop.
Alya sighed and saved her work before tugging her bag on her lap. Sliding her laptop out of harm’s way.
“I got a new scoop last night.” Alya grinned. Relaxing into her seat. Crossing her glossy legs.
“You will never believe what I saw, girl!” Jumping on Marinette as stars lit up in her eyes. A quick transition from her blank expression earlier. Marinette, knowing where this was going, played dumb.
“Let me guess,” Mari hummed, narrowing her eyes at nothing in the distance. Only to get spooked when Alya shook her.
“AHH! I can’t wait! Just let me tell you!!”
Smirking at the journalist. Alya, as if her tongue was on fire, spit on her amazing story.
There she, in the middle of the night, getting a drink of water. Like how she always did when she was staying up late for an article. Only to hear a loud noise outside. Assuming it’s an Akuma before considering the idea of an earthquake happening in the middle of Europe or a plane crash. Incentively fishing for her phone to see the most amazing sight ever. The greatest thing to hit theaters in its time. The most inspiring and jaw-dropping things to ever live in black and white. The scaly, creepy Godzilla! Stomping out the streets of Paris in the dead of night. Apartments lights flicked on as the beast strolled through the street. Holding in its roars as it tossed its tail. Missing a building by a hair. With a “zip” and a “wow”, the Parian hero duo leaped neighborhoods and buildings. Chat Noir tossed his baton in the air, saving Ladybug by the fraction of second from being dino-chum as she twirled up into the air. Ladybug’s yo-yo looped around the monster swiftly with her momentum, tripping the beast toward the bottom of the Eiffel tower. With Chat Noir’s cataclysm ready, Ladybug called on her lucky charm and-
“- and Agreste at 10.” Alya murmured. Watching Adrien come through the front door with Nino by his side. Laughing at each other as they look back to Nino’s phone. Marinette turned around, groaning- knowing this morning routine too well. Trying to make herself seem smaller as she pushed back her shoulders. Hoping to go under notice. Already feeling his lime-green eyes on her back.
“I’ll be hiding in a tree or at the art studio, whatever I reach first.” Already grieving the loss of a perfectly good morning. “Text me if you need me.”
“See ya.” Alya waved. Slumping back to the bench as Marinette rushed away in the opposite direction of Adrien.
-----
“Marinette!”
“Agreste.”
“Ah. . .Come here often?”
Marinette had to stop the snort that came up her throat. Being a second late as a small chuckle left her lips. Having to shut down her face to not give Adrien the fuel to keep going. Bring back that dull expression as she watched Adrien struggle a little bit more.
“I don’t usually come here, but if I do I’m not dangling out of trees.”
“Uh,” Agreste hummed. Unsure what to say as he felt the tingling of blood rushing to his head competed with the deep blush that appeared on his cheeks. Or maybe that was just the pain of his blood rushing to head. Yeah, maybe it was the blood rushing to his head.
On the bright side, however, it made it harder to see if he’s blushing.
“I’m practicing my tree climbing. . . ?” He smugly answered.
“Practicing,” Marinette repeated. Letting that lame reason melt on her tongue before she even thought of accepting it. Crossing her arms as she stuck her leg out. Her heel rocked back and forth on the dirt. Creating a little hole as she thought this over.
“I’m not one to try and get into someone’s business-”
“You’re not getting in my business. I MEan, I-I don’t mind you asking about it. .!”
Marinette kissed her teeth. “Right . . . “
Biting her lips as she left out a long sigh. Pitching the bridge of her nose, the click on her rings hitting her septum piercing. She’ll regret this, she knows it already. She just had to humor him, even if it was a little longer.
“So Agreste. I would hate to bother this,” Marinette motioned. Her hands raised up and down and around. “But you seem like you need help? Do you need help to get down?”
“. . .Actually, yeah.”
----
“Why is Marinette pulling Adrien out of a tree?” Alix questioned. Pointing out the window when Alya and Mylene came over. Her finger covering the odd scene outside.
The three girls press their faces up the glass as they watched the commotion outside unfold.
“It looks like Marinette is shoving him in a tree to me...” Alya mumbled. Squinting her eyes before she removed her glasses. Rubbing them quickly against her shirt before pushing them back up her face.
Mylene bit her thumb, “Do you think we should go and help them? Maybe they-”
A muffled thump hit the ground. A puff of dirt rising in the air, covering the teens outside. Coughing as they waved the dust away. Marinette smoothed the dirt off her jacket as Adrien groaned.
“I think they’re fine.” Alya hummed. Returning to her notebook.
“Okay, so what did you get for question seven?”
