Every story has a beginning and here is mine. I graduated from culinary school with a Baking and Pastry Certificate from The Art Institutes International Minnesota in 2005 and the cake decorating class was by far my favorite! The 1st pix I posted here is the very first fondant cake design I created for said class which received 2nd place award at the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show. I was pretty proud of this cake which was a labor of love in creating the sugar bow, numerous sugar roses and filler flowers to covering the cake in fondant with fondant lace border. Following culinary school, I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my new certificate, so I worked as a Pastry Chef for local Minneapolis restaurants and bakeries. In 2007, I jumped at the chance to enter a local chocolate competition with a 3 tier Chocolate Cake wrapped in a Minuet 🎶and Shakespearean quote, "If music be the food of love, play on." All of the details on the chocolate buttercream cake were handmade including the chocolate treble and bass clef on top with sugar staff and the handpiped music notes and chocolate wrap around each tier. (2nd pix) Needless to say, I was so excited about what I was able to achieve that I decided to devote my career to designing and decorating cakes. And I'm so happy I did!!! In the 3rd photo I am standing in an event space which showcased my work as The Cake Diva. One never knows where a new adventure will twist and weave, how much you will learn and grow, nor how much you and your direction will change. It's an adventure, after all, and I am as smitten today as I was in 2009 when I took my few order!
