While he was alive, Vesemir was the only one truly validating Eskel's desperate belief that the witchers are more than a children-killing institution and that upholding traditions is more important than everything else, despite how anachronistic their way of life is starting to look. Lambert is very vocal about his contempt for the most unsavory aspects of their guild and Geralt is far from a conventional witcher – something for which Eskel almost reproaches him in TW3.

Now that Vesemir is dead, the status quo Eskel was clinging to is gone and he's faced with a choice: either he keeps his head firmly buried in the sand and decides to keep living a witcher's life until he dies, thus becoming a relic of the past and condemning himself to a life of (if not physical, at least psychological) solitude; or he finally accepts that it's time to move on and to discover what he wants to make of his life and, most importantly, what kind of person he is outside of a dutiful witcher.

So, I have seen all of The Witcher S3 Part One. I like it. Definitely an upgrade on S2. Also, episode 5 has a nice Sapkowski structure.

The Witcher 3 spoilers beware.

So I played the Battle of Kaer Morhen last night, and the way they animated Geralt's face when he

sees Vesemir dead absolutely WRECKED ME. I've played this game three times before, and I don't remember his face being quite so expressive in that scene? But then again I didn't really have a lot of context for the whole "witchers don't feel" thing, so it didn't impact me as much those first three times. It was also 4 years ago. Anyway, here's a father daughter shot after the Bald mountain dust up.
