Sasuke is a great example of a character who had this amazing ability of his observation skills. (I'm not talking about how attentively he analyzes his enemies during battles)
When Kakashi tells them not to worry about any danger since this is only a C-rank mission, but only Sasuke notices that something is off with Tazuna's behavior.
Sasuke suspected that Sakura was acting strange when she said 'good morning' with some hesitation. Sakura was really depressed about the chuunin exam because she felt useless compared to Naruto and Sasuke and didn't think she was good enough or skilled enough. Sasuke was the only person who noticed that Sakura wasn't acting like her usual self or something off about her behavior, while Naruto was completely unaware of this.
Sasuke can recognize Naruto without even talking to him. Sasuke was sitting somewhere far behind Naruto, yet he could notice that Naruto getting freaked out without seeing his face.
Sasuke can immediately find the fake Naruto. This shows that Sasuke is very obervent towards Naruto's appearance and his fighting skills (the way he dodges attacks). Sasuke quickly noticed that it was a fake Naruto coming towards them, but Sakura didn't notice.
It happens twice under completely different circumstances. And yet, Sasuke knows without a doubt who is the real Naruto and who isn't.
Sasuke was the only one who felt something was off about Kabuto, but Naruto and Sakura didn't notice as they accepted and trusted him.
Sasuke can tell Naruto's mood just by looking at him. He saying himself 'this is not how Naruto usually fight. (Naruto was literally confused on how to save his friends from the much stronger Gaara)
After seeing his fight with Gaara Now he knows the usual Naruto is back.
No one realized how selfish she is, but Sasuke did. Sakura started talking about 'this revenge won't make you happy...nor me', and making it all about herself and her feelings. The moment he hears this, he uses the word 'yappari'. Yappari means "just like I thought", "I knew it", "As I suspected".やっぱり(yappari) uses to expresses the fact that your assumptions and predictions are proven correct. It also means that you are not surprised.
Sasuke calls Naruto 'Usuratonkachi' in Part 1 and at the end of Part 2. It wasn't a word that Sasuke had made up on his own….he had heard it from Naruto and started calling him by that name, creating his own meaning from it.
Sasuke was observant enough to listen intently to the nonsense Naruto spewed out at the age of 8 and began to make it his own….despite suffering a tragedy and consumed with hatred and revenge……

Sasuke knowing how it feels to be asked that question
And knowing exactly what to answer. Answering with a word he doesn't have to explain to Naruto what it means, the same way Naruto doesn't have to explain what "friend" means to him. Naruto is Sasuke's usuratonkachi, his one and only friend, with who Sasuke shares his pain, who saved Sasuke.
At this point Sasuke asks this because he wants to hear the answer. The way people just like hearing "I love you", Sasuke just wants to hear Naruto say he is his friend, because of the meaning Naruto gives to this word.
Golden hour will always be SNS aesthetic
At this point, I think Naruto sits on the floor because he knows Sasuke will offer his hand to help him get up.
See how the answer to that "what are you" question is still not "your brother"? This two have yet to adress each other as "brother", the same way Sasuke did with Itachi.
Obviously, anything BORUTO related is dismissed by me and this game is just redoing the final chapters of NARUTO but reversed and not as good, nothing new here. Also they know which characters pay the bills lmao. But it's nice to recognize Naruto and Sasuke's characters, seeing them act like themselves and see their real dynamic again.

The 7th Hokage visited Sasuke and invited him to an izakaya [pub] for some drinks to congratulate him for his latest mission.
Sasuke: You're just making up excuses to leave work and drink.
Naruto: *laughs* Well, you may be or you may not be wrong.
Waiter: Sasuke-san! Long time! *looks at Naruto* Oh, your best friend visited you?
Sasuke: No, my wife is at home.. I'll take the usual. Just double it for his order.
Waiter: Got it! *leaves*
Naruto: Teme, what's with wrong with you?? Am I not your best friend??
Sasuke: No. Sakura is obviously my best friend. Your best friend is Hinata.
Naruto: No— I mean— It doesn't work that way! You can be married but not necessarily—
Sasuke: *sighs* I consider you as my brother.
Naruto: Oh. Of course! *smiles widely* I'll take that! That's better than a best friend!
Sasuke: Whatever pleases you..
Naruto: *laughs* Before I left the village, one old man died..
Sasuke: What does that have to do with me?
Naruto: Listen first, dattebayo! *sips water* The guy's wife died a month earlier. He died because of sadness..

Sasuke: *chugs his beer* My mom was perfect. My people.. The Uchiha.. Are greatly devoted to love.

Sasuke: *wipes his mouth* Sakura is the same as my mom. She's perfect just like her.
Naruto: *nods; gets tempura*
Sasuke: I really think that the most harrowing idea is that I'd spend any part of my life without her. *chugs his beer again*

Sasuke: No.. Usuratonkachi, I thought we're talking about death?
Naruto: S-Sorry! Well..
Sasuke: Being far from her— I can take that.. *gets gyoza* Because I know she's always there waiting for me..

Sasuke: If she's gone forever, that would be a level of loneliness and irreplaceable— Iredeemable emotional desolation that I couldn't possibly contemplate. *finishes his beer mug*

Flowers of the Riverbed
Hello! I wrote a one shot for pride month that's sns. Nothing much, just some accidental pain and smol moments. Give it a look!
Here's a bit of the beginning:
Little boys like Sasuke liked picking flowers for their mother. Now he’d never let anyone know it – especially not anyone at school – but every day on his way back from the academy he’d pick them. In the early spring, he would test how much his jumping skills had improved by grabbing handfuls of cherry blossoms that only ended up a little smushed. Toward mid-spring, at the edges of the river bed there’d be bright fuschia satsuki azalea. He always picked the brightest flowers for his home, so he’d make a bouquet with them: marigolds, grape hyacinths, red clover and buttercups. Mother named them each for him when he brought them home and placed them in a large crystal vase at the center of the table – his garish bouquet. She’d tell him the meanings of each and every one of them after dinner. She liked the marigolds most of all.
And in the Summers mother would take him to their garden and they’d pick tomatoes. He got to eat them straight off the vine! Little cherry tomatoes that popped like candy in your mouth. They would pick spring onion too, and cut spinach, and find all the bugs there were to squash. But not the good ones, no he and mother would never squash the good ones.
Little boys like Sasuke like picking flowers for their mothers. Little boys like Sasuke don’t like getting caught.
“Hey!” a little blonde boy called from across the river, pointing at him in an over dramatic way, “You can’t take that one! I named it Chum! Give it back!”
The blush crawled up Sasuke’s neck until it reached his cheeks. He was from school, his name was Uzumaki Naruto and he was the worst of them all. All year he taunted Sasuke, declared he would beat him and challenged him to fights. It was fun sometimes, sure, but Uzumaki would definitely see this as something to tease him about. Bluff.
“I already picked it, usuratonkachi! What good would putting it back do now?” He brought the aforementioned marigold (apparently named Chum) closer to his chest and the growing bouquet that sat there.
Uzumaki turned red in the face, “Ay! Teme! What’d you say to me?” He stood with his arms and legs spread out like a cat trying to appear bigger. What a foul mouth, Itachi-nii would have scolded him for that one.
“It’s already picked, it’s gonna die anyway!” He yelled across the river.
“Well then give it to me you jackass!”
“Not on my life, bastard!”

yo recently I heard that Naruto is the one who said "Usuratonkachi" to Sasuke first when they were little in school.
I assume this was added later on in the story, but if Naruto basically coined it first and Sasuke picked it up later, that would add extra cuteness to their bond
but since you can read the original jp script for the manga, I figured you might be able to check on the validity of that in the manga.
I don't quite know if it's filler for the anime or not~

In the anime it was in ep. 277
On the first day they fought at the academy, the words Naruto said to him, ``Usuratonkachi''... maybe those words had a surprisingly strong impact on Sasuke. To begin with, Sasuke has nothing to do with the image of "Usuratonkachi". All the time the fans screamed "Sasuke is so cool/Sasuke is so awesome", Naruto was the first person to call Sasuke "usuratonkachi" and directly swears at him. He listened intently to the nonsense Naruto spewed out and began to make it his own.[it shows that Sasuke remembered that encounter very well]. We all know how Sasuke observed Naruto since childhood and he started thinking/worrying about him a lot.
During their first encounter, Naruto provoked Sasuke by saying "Usuratonkachi". Their match ended when Sasuke pushed Naruto down and raised his fist.
And without making any sign of reconciliation with each other.
Sasuke left the village, and Naruto, who chases him desperately finally catches up with him in the Valley of the End. The two of them standing face to face in the Valley of the End... And Sasuke greets Naruto with "usuratonkachi"
When Naruto says that the others are risking their lives for him...Sasuke sarcastically said, "What a (pointless) effort" or "you're working so hard for nothing." It provoked Naruto, and made him jump at him and raise his fist... and hit him. (This is the opposite of what happened on their first meeting)
What's really interesting is that the place they chose to part ways was on top of a stone statue of Madara and Hashirama with the "Seal of Confrontation". Sasuke &Naruto only did the "Seal of Confrontation", but what they really wanted was:
Because of their ego's they couldn't do the sign before. They always wanted to be friends, even if they couldn't admit it out loud. Both admired and liked each other. But they couldn't accept and come to terms with how they felt inside.
He couldn't kill Naruto….he even got chances to do that… but it was something he couldn't do. After the Vote 1 fight, Sasuke had to sealed the word ``Usuratonkachi'' for a long time. Because, over the time "Usuratonkachi'' gradually became a word that acknowledge the existence of Naruto. And the word completely acknowledging "Naruto's competitive nature''
As for Vote 2, I've talked about it here and here
A long time ago, Naruto gave Sasuke the Usuratonkachi as a ``Sign of Confrontation,'' but Sasuke gave it back to Naruto as a ``Sign of Reconciliation". This final battle between Naruto and Sasuke is also a battle in which Sasuke accepts and acknowledges his own weakness (his desire to connect with Naruto).

How do you think sasuke shows affection with naruto?
aaaaa okay. calling him an usuratonkachi obviously, we all know that. sasuke notices the little things about naruto, you know that couple dynamics talks a lot x listens? sasuke 🥰 listens 🥰 he enjoys naruto’s company and pays attention and keeps the little details and sometimes naruto might feel like sasuke isn’t listening but he is and he will bring up something that naruto said and naruto will beam at him and be like “wow i can’t believe you remembered that”. sasuke cooks for naruto because he loves him and wants them to eat well and he would casually feed him too sometimes. sasuke knows naruto is touch starved so he lets naruto lie on his lap to pet his hair and ear and when they are sitting on the couch and naruto lies his head on sasuke’s shoulder sasuke will lean his head so it lies on the top of naruto’s and will give him a gentle kiss. naruto is the one that usually holds him when they sleep but when he’s feeling bad, sasuke will hold him and caress his back and kiss the crown of his head and naruto will nuzzle on his chest. sasuke doesn’t ask for affection, especially at the beginning and sometimes he is torn between thinking it’s stupid looking like he wants something and thinking it’s stupid that he thinks like that because if he wants any affection he can just get it and naruto won’t judge him for it, and that’s exactly what he does, if he wants it, he won’t ask, he’ll just steal a kiss or lie closer to naruto, who will feel very pleased. naruto knows that when sasuke opens up to him is because he trusts and feels comfortable to talk to his boyfriend and that makes him special so he treasures these moments very much, treasures every time sasuke is more vulnerable because that’s a way of sasuke showing affection too. sasuke will let naruto do things like washing his hair or giving him a massage or playing with his bangs because he enjoys it and he knows naruto enjoys it too. he will casually sit on naruto’s lap if naruto is reading at the kitchen table. sasuke thinks their relationship is none of people’s business, he’s not shy to talk about what he feels for naruto but he won’t if he’s not questioned, if so, he will bluntly say it without a problem. in public he will casually hold naruto’s wrist to guide him if they are in a crowded place and brush his thumb on his skin, if they are sitting in a restaurant or something he will touch his leg with naruto’s because that makes him feel more comfortable.

Naruto: Thank you! We'll just call you once we're ready to order.
The husbands have their menu opened but the wives are obviously deciding what to eat.
Sakura: Anata, what do you want?
Sasuke: What are you getting?
Sakura: Hmm.. Ribeye? Then maybe some dessert later. *checks the menu*
Sasuke: Okay, me too. Minus the dessert. *closes the menu*

Ino: Do you want T-bone, Sai? I kinda want some T-bone for tonight.

Hinata: Naruto-kun, I'm getting filet mignon.. *points at the menu*

Sarada: Papa! I'm okay! I'll call if anything wrong happens.

Sakura: *giggles* You won't understand. You're not a girl dad. Sasuke-kun is just worried.. Right, Anata?
Sasuke: *nods*
Naruto: Hey, I'm a girl dad too!!
Sakura: Oh, sorry! I totally forgot!
Hinata: Naruto-kun is also scared of Himawari.
Sasuke: *smirks* See?
Ino: Ah, I want a baby girl too!
Sai: Noted on that, Ino.
Ino: *blushes* I'm— I'm just joking!
Sakura: You should have one if you want an heiress to the flower shop! *laughs*
Ino: Inojin is showing a bit of interest now.. So, maybe he can take care of it in the future!
Waiter: Please make way for the order.. Thank you! *places them one by one*

Sasuke: You did great, Sarada. *gives wagyu take-out box*
Sarada: Thanks, Papa! *takes the box* See? Everything went well.
Sasuke: As expected.
Sarada: *smiles and goes to the kitchen*
Sasuke: *checks everything that can be broken or not in place*
Sarada: Papa.. What are you doing?
Sasuke: Nothing! I'm going to our room. Bye!

Background story : Little accident on their way home. Naruto had to bring Sasuke back using a wheelbarrow. Sakura found them harmonizing in the bathtub, proud of Naruto's first aid treatment (probably because he always got hurt during training).

Team 7 reunion - Part 2

It had been like lighting a fire – something Sasuke was supposedly very good at obviously; because Naruto had started talking almost right away, excitedly telling Sakura and Kakashi all about how the two of them had gotten closer over these past weeks, and closer, and closer. Well, until the kiss had happened – until they had happened, and how that had been the happiest day of his life.
So cheesy.
Their life. Sasuke had wanted to correct him, but refrained from it.
Sakura at first had a mischievous smile on her face – glancing at Sasuke as if to tease him any second now for his unexpected declaration of love, but as Naruto went on with his story the Uchiha noticed how her expression slowly changed, becoming softer and more and more filled with fondness as time passed. Even Kakashi had actually put his book away for once, also listening to Naruto rather intently with no distractions.
Sasuke had to bite his lip in order to fight the smile threatening to form on his face – he didn't want them to notice just yet how Naruto already had him wrapped around his finger in such a short time, how soft he had already gotten when it came to the man beside him. Sometimes it surprised even himself.
But no, these things were still reserved only for Naruto at this point – only for when it was just the two of them together.
For now, he would just sit here, letting Naruto tell those two people who had – Sasuke didn't want to deny it any longer – become like a second family to him, to them. Naruto looked so happy, smiling with each word he spoke and the sight alone did things to Sasuke, making his mind spin and his heartbeat get out of control rather quickly. He needed to ground himself, to keep himself from completely losing it – so without a second thought he just did the one thing that calmed him every time, searching for Naruto's hand, squeezing it softly.
Only then did he realize that their fingers were in fact still interlaced – still laying on top of the table.
Naruto immediately went quiet, turning to face Sasuke in the blink of an eye.
Of course.
The Uchiha just sighed, trying to act completely nonchalant about it, “You're already talking their ears off, usuratonkachi. Give them a break, will you?”
He honestly expected Naruto to just pout at him, telling him that they didn't really mind him doing so (Sasuke knew that they didn't – they were more than happy to find out more about so many things they could tease Sasuke about in the future, he was sure). But instead, Naruto once more just surprised him. His blue eyes were soft, locking with Sasuke's dark ones as he gave him a lopsided grin. The blonde tightened his grip on his hand – the touch was warm, filled with love and so, so many promises of happiness. Sasuke almost snorted at the cheesy way his mind worked these days, Naruto's stupidity really must be rubbing off on him.
He rolled his eyes rather dramatically.
An action which made Sakura burst into a laugh – apparently.
“Well, mission complete.”, she tilted her head, raising her hand with a victory peace sign. Both of them turned to her – completely confused by her sudden claim.
“I was already wondering when you two would tell us.”, she explained, her expression suddenly seeming more serious, reflecting, “but you took too long – and I was so excited for you.. so I thought I might as well challenge you to open up, you know-”
It suddenly clicked in Sasuke's mind.
So that's why she had brought Hinata up all of a sudden. It had been a test. He hadn't noticed.
He was about to open his mouth to say something but Naruto beat him to it.
“What-”, Naruto's eyes were wide open, “So you already knew-”
“Have you seen then way you look at Sasuke?” Sakura raised her eyebrows, “Not even I was that whipped for him.”
The blush was back in full force in no time and so clear on Naruto's face that Sasuke truly wanted to punch him.
He should have expected Sakura to notice, honestly – she was smart and perceptive and Sasuke should have known better than to underestimate her like this.
“Although...” The pink haired then turned to him and he knew, in that moment right there, that the true teasing was just about to start.
“I didn't except Sasuke to be the one to break the news...”, she smiled, “You're quite possessive, huh?”
He noticed the way her eyes moved down to glance at their still joined hands.
Unbelievable. She was unbelievable.
He could only let out an amused huff.
Yeah, they'd been fools to think those two wouldn't notice.

NaruSasu Day Prompts
Prompt from the Where The Sun Meets the Moon SNS server NS day event:
Prompt # 3 Lace (yeah, shocker I jumped on this one, right?)
It was a stupid, silly thing--an evening with other of the Rookie 9 and Kiba happened to start waxing his best attempt at being poetic about lace lingerie--how it looked, how it felt under his hands. At least, he had until Neji noticed how bright red Hinata was blushing and smacked him upside the head to shut him up.
But not before he'd asked Naruto's opinion on it, and Naruto had stared at Sasuke intently over the rim of his sake cup and said, "I can only imagine. Maybe red against pale skin... I think I'd love to see that."
Sasuke didn't expect the thrill to run through him at the heat in Naruto's eyes, and he'd ignored it.
But he couldn't forget it.
I think I'd love to see that.
They weren't big on birthdays, but Naruto's came around and Sasuke wanted to do something for him, something... he'd like. And still that stupid memory lingered. In fact, it wouldn't go away until he'd--very discretely--obtained a set.
Since wearing a bra wasn't something he'd ever done before, he thought it only prudent to try on the set before he decided he was going to go through with this... insanity. First, he put on the underwear, pointedly refusing to look at how it looked on him before he turned his attention to the bra. He'd gotten the smallest cup size he could, so hopefully it wouldn't gape too awkwardly. t took him a surprisingly--and annoyingly--long time to get the back to latch properly, and even when he did, the straps slid off his shoulders.
"Sasuke?" Naruto asked, his voice hushed, almost reverent. Sasuke cursed himself for having grown too accustomed to Naruto's chakra signatures, so much so that he hadn't even noticed him approaching. "Is this... for me?" he asked.
Since pretending he was interested in it for its own sake would have been even more embarrassing than doing it for Naruto, Sasuke said, "Who else, usuratonkachi?" He crossed his arms over his chest, though it was pointless, and refused to turn around.
He didn't actually need to, because he could feel Naruto's heat behind him as he stepped in close. With featherlight touches, Naruto eased the straps up on top of his shoulders, tightening them until they fit better, then placing soft, fluttering kisses alongside the skin on either side of the strap. A hand reached around Sasuke's waist, dropping down to cup him through the lace, and the rough, scratchiness of the material felt oddly good against such sensitive skin.
Without meaning to, Sasuke sighed, sinking back into Naruto, and Naruto's kisses moved to the top of his shoulder, then up his neck.
"You're so beautiful," Naruto murmured, low and full of heat into Sasuke's ear.
"Don't be stupi--" Sasuke started to say, pushing his face away, but it was halfhearted at best.
Naruto's other hand came up to tease a nipple through the lace, and Sasuke lost track of what he was going to say as the unexpected pleasure of being touched through the lace coursed through him.
"I'm not stupid," Naruto said, his voice growing deeper. "And I'm going to show you exactly how beautiful you are."
Turning to putty in Naruto's hands, Sasuke wasn't sure if that was a threat or a promise, but he looked forward to it either way.

Day 2 + Day 19 (Sunflowers + Travelling Together)
Summary: Naruto travels with Sasuke after the War

It was Sasuke's fault. He should have refused Naruto but succumbed to a moment of weakness. Their fight, no, the aftermath of their fight had unleashed something inside him. He was tired of pushing Naruto away; he wanted to bask in the other's light after all the time spent in the darkness. Naruto had been impulsive, and Sasuke had been selfish.
Naruto had been full of energy and excitement in the beginning. He kept smiling at Sasuke as if he couldn't contain his happiness. He kept looking at their surroundings in awe, admiring every leaf of grass, every rock by the river and every star in the sky. It was as if he saw everything for the first time, and Sasuke was smitten with the sight.
It had not lasted.
One afternoon, Naruto's demeanour changed. His smile had all but vanished, and his excitement had turned into contemplativeness. Sasuke didn't understand, was afraid of asking for the reason. Maybe a couple of days was all it had taken for Naruto to decide Sasuke was not worth the effort after all. Why should he abandon his life to keep Sasuke company? He didn't even know what he was looking for or how long it would take to find it.
Sasuke decided to offer him a way out.
"We are not far yet," Sasuke said one night around the third week of their journey as they contemplated the flames of their campfire. "You could go back still."
Naruto looked away from the flames, directing his uncertain eyes towards Sasuke. "Do you want me to go back?"
"I think you miss Konoha."
Naruto fell silent for a moment, then said, "I don't- I mean, I miss Konoha, but I want to be here with you."
Sasuke's breath caught. The memory of the Valley of the End was still raw and tender, firing his hope. Sasuke pushed down the feeling. He refused to indulge himself any longer. Not if he was causing Naruto pain.
"You don't look as if you want to be here."
"I should have known you'd realize." Naruto smiled sadly and sighed. "But it's not what you think." He reached into his pocket and handed Sasuke the piece of paper he had been carrying.
Sasuke frowned when he read Nara's words. "You said you had permission."
Naruto looked away, rubbing the back of his neck. "I had... for one week."
"Usuratonkachi."
"I asked for an extension."
"And you didn't get it."
"Technically, I did."
"This says the only reason they have not sent someone after you is that they're short on staff."
"Exactly!" Naruto brightened up. "If I were needed in Konoha, Kakashi-sensei wouldn't have sent a letter."
Sasuke couldn't argue against that. Although, he considered part of the reason Konoha had not tried was that there was literally no force in the world capable of forcing Naruto to return if he didn't want to. He was surprised Kakashi had not asked him to convince Naruto to return.
Sasuke sighed. "What's with the gloomy face then, Dobe?"
"Well, they could come for me any moment."
"Are you sure you still don't want to go back?" That would probably save everyone plenty of trouble.
"I am, believe it!" Naruto chirped. "This is not only about us. Like- I've been thinking. I don't want change only for Konoha. To change the Ninja World, I must understand all of it."
Sasuke hoped his admiration didn't show. "Well, we better make the most of the time you have."
So, Naruto had not left, and Sasuke had not suggested it again.

They visited a dozen villages in Kusa. Naruto talked to people while Sasuke observed. At some point, Naruto started helping people with their daily tasks and dragged Sasuke along. They cut wood, looked for lost pets, painted houses, and pulled weeds. They got invited to the table of those they helped. Naruto said it was like clearing D-rank missions again. Sasuke admitted it was good training to regain the balance lost with their arms.
It was in one of the larger markets Naruto saw the sunflowers for the first time.
They were preparing to leave the area, buying supplies. Sasuke was trying to discern the right amount of rice to carry with them when Naruto ran towards a flower stall, leaving him alone to transport what they had already bought. Sasuke rolled his eyes. It was always the same, and even though he didn't care about the weight, it was still uncomfortable to carry everything with a single hand.
"If you do that again, you'll have to carry everything for a week. No clones." He pulled at Naruto's ear.
"Sorry, Sasuke." Naruto giggled. "Look! Had you ever seen sunflowers that big?"
"They are as big as your head. That's a lot."
"Teme-"
"You have a good eye, young man." The merchant interrupted whatever profanity Naruto was about to spit his way. "My family has grown this variety for generations."
"How much?" Naruto reached for one of the flowerpots —the largest, no less— but Sasuke stopped him.
"Don't even think about it."
"What! Why?"
"It's huge."
"Please, Sasuke, I know we have a budget, but-"
"It's not about the budget, moron. Are you going to carry that everywhere? You won't be able to take proper care of it. What if we have to fight?"
"Yeah, you are right."
Sasuke didn't like how Naruto's face fell nor the way his heart clenched at the sight. "Now go get our things." He said, turning around. "We have to leave today."
Sasuke risked another glance at Naruto's back, then at the stupidly big flowers. He almost groaned. Was he actually going to spend money on something that might never make it to Naruto's apartment? Would it even fit? Sasuke hated futile efforts.
"Excuse me." The merchant called him.
"Hn."
"You can always buy the seeds."
Sasuke was sure the old lady charged him extra for the seeds, but he didn't care.

Naruto was still worried about the time Konoha would finally summon him. He feared he would never get to see the world like this again, to be this close to the people that needed his help. He feared routine and responsibility would overwrite these memories. He feared Sasuke's absence in his life.
Sasuke still couldn't make promises. He didn't know what would happen in the future. He didn't know if this would be all the time they would ever have. But that was the purpose of the seeds. Wherever they went, Naruto would manage to find a different variety of sunflowers. Then Sasuke would wait for him to look away and buy a pack of seeds that he would later hide among his belongings, waiting for the right time.
Sasuke had started to picture a garden full of life and overflowing sunflowers of all kinds. Blooms large as Naruto's face and small as a shuriken; orange, red and yellow petals among rarer ones like white and dark as chocolate. One-stem sunflowers and branched sunflowers; single and double petal sunflowers that resembled Naruto's messy hair. Each one was a reminder of the time they spent together.
That was what Sasuke carried with him: Seeds of hope for an uncertain future.
