I had a dream last night for Buck, and it's kinda a cute request idea ✨️
So like obvious Buck x Reader, them being married after the war and they have a daughter that was like 3 years old. But the boys were there too Bucky, Rosie and Croz (who also bought his daughter with him) and everyonemet up at a park.
The two children were ✨️forcing✨️ the males to play with them and at the end of the day they were renamed to Uncle Bubu (bucky), Uncle Rose, Uncle Bug (buck) and Uncle Croco (don't ask me why or how but I dreamt it like that 😂)
Tumblr media
hello! thank you for these requests 💝 the story is so adorable and domestic, I wish I could live in it, honestly 😭 I looked up popular 1940s girl names because I didn't feel comfortable with looking up the name of real Crosby's daughter for obvious reasons lol 😅
I have about 10 requests with Buck at the moment in my inbox to write lol (and one about Bucky) so please, go easy with them for a while 👉🏻👈🏻 especially that I also want to open my requests for Feyd, too 🤩
Tumblr media
Little Gloria had been excited since the early morning for the arrival of uncle Bucky. Her godfather lived in a different part of the country and she was seeing him only a few times a year.
You were in the kitchen, preparing Bucky’s favourite food to greet him with it, while Gloria was on Gale’s lap as they were both sitting by the window to make sure not to miss Bucky’s arrival.
When she started to squeal and clap her hands, you realised that Bucky had to be already outside.
“What the hell,” your husband muttered and you furrowed your brows.
“What? Did he bring some lady?” You asked and approached the window curiously.
Bucky’s car was parked on your driveway but he was not the only one leaving it. However, there was no lady but two other men and a little girl who looked more less your daughter’s age.
“Who are these people?” You asked Gale. You didn’t know every person your husband had served with personally.
“The one with the moustache is Rosie and the other one is Harry Crosby,” he looked up at you. “I guess the girl is Crosby's daughter. She should be about a year older than our little Gloria,” he put your daughter down on the floor because she was getting impatient to finally run outside and greet her favourite uncle.
“Well, I don’t mind finally getting to know them but we don’t have enough beds for them all to stay over,” you worried.
“We’ll settle it somehow, come,” Gale stood up and took your hand to lead you to the hall.
Gloria was already waiting by the door and struggling to reach the doorknob. Gale chuckled at her and opened the door for her as she ran outside. Bucky smiled widely at the sight of her and crouched down as he opened his arms. Gloria hurried to hug him and you followed her.
“Hello, Princess,” Bucky squeezed her tight and carried her up. “Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Cleven,” he greeted you and your husband with a wink. “I’ve gathered some company on the way, I hope you don’t mind,” he pointed at the men behind him. “Little reunion, how about that?”
“Oh, it’s nice to finally meet you!” You reached your hand out towards the man with the moustache.
“Nice to finally meet you, too, Mrs. Cleven. I’m Rosie,” he introduced himself.
“Please, I’m just (Y/N),” you giggled and shook his hand before reaching it to another man.
“Harry Crosby,” he nodded at you. “And that little lady is Connie,” he introduced his daughter. “My wife wanted a weekend for herself and I thought that it would be nice if our daughters could meet. I hope you don’t mind.”
“I hope you don’t mind us in general,” Rosie added.
“I don’t mind at all,” you chuckled nervously as your husband hugged Crosby and Rosie. Little Connie was staring at him with big wide eyes before shyly hugging him, too.
“Hello, Connie,” Gale booped her on the nose and she giggled. “I’m uncle Buck and this is aunt (Y/N),” he pointed at you.
“Connie, what do we say?” Harry looked down at her.
“Hello,” she blushed.
“Oh, she’s adorable,” you smiled.
“I am adorable, too!” Gloria exclaimed. “Right, uncle Bucky?”
“Of course!” He assured her with a laugh and kissed her on the cheek.
Gale helped Rosie to get the bags out of the trunk and you all walked inside and into the living room, chatting about the weather and what the ride had been like.
“I’m a little worried about the beds,” you explained. “Girls can sleep together, we have a guest bedroom that I have prepared for Bucky. Someone can sleep on the sofa of course. But we’re still one bed short,” you sighed.
“A professional worrier,” Gale teased you. “She’s like you, Croz.”
“Excuse me, that seems like a serious problem to me!” You put your hand on your hips.
“You’re really adorable, (Y/N),” Bucky patted your shoulder and you furrowed your brow. “We’re military men. We can sleep on the floor,” he explained.
Tumblr media
In the evening you were all sitting in the garden while Gale was managing the barbecue and you were helping him. Bucky – as energetic as always – was running around with Connie and Gloria. Rosie and Croz were sitting by the table and drinking beer while watching them and you were sighing every time one of them ran over your flower patch.
“Daddy, daddy, look!” Gloria was calling for Gale all the time, hoping he would join the fun.
“Go to them,” you pushed his shoulder lightly. “I’ll take care of the grill,” you promised.
Your husband leaned in to place a kiss upon your cheek and ran to Gloria, trying to catch her and attack her with tickles. Harry put the bottle of beer down and did the same to his daughter.
Rosie stood up and joined you by the barbecue as if you needed a male’s assistance while turning the meat and vegetables over.
“I can handle that, really,” you chuckled. “You men act like we haven’t been managing everything on our own while you were gone,” you pointed out.
“You have?” He asked playfully and you rolled your eyes.
“Do all people in New York run their mouths?” You asked with a cheeky smile.
“Yes,” he winked at you.
“Then I wonder why I wasn't born there,” you laughed.
“You run your mouth, too, Mrs. Cleven?”
“Gale thinks so sometimes. Right, Gale?” You looked at him and he furrowed his brows at you. Little Gloria was sitting on his shoulders as he was pretending to be an aeroplane.
“What?” He asked.
“I’m telling Rosie how you think I run my mouth sometimes,” you explained.
“A lot,” he answered before turning around and ignoring you once again, focusing on the play-pretend.
“Rude,” you mumbled and sighed while Rosie chuckled.
“Love and marriage, eh?” He asked.
“Love and marriage,” you nodded and took one of the plates to put the sausage and potatoes on it from the grill. “We’re out of ketchup,” you pointed out. “I’ll go for it,” you told Rosie and he nodded his head as he took the plate from you to put it on the table.
You went inside to the kitchen but the phone rang as you were opening the fridge. It was your mother calling so you stayed on the line for about ten minutes, chatting about the upcoming weekend with the guests and asking her about the new recipes she had been trying recently. When you were finally done, you grabbed the ketchup bottle from the fridge and went back outside.
You froze at the sight of four adult men running around with two little girls giggling and laughing as they were trying to catch them. Bucky was standing on the garden chair that was barely stable on the grass and Rosie was wearing a cap made out of an old science magazine that had been laying on the garden table for a month now because Buck had been insisting that he was still reading it.
You focused mostly on him – your husband. His cheeks were flushed and golden hair was ruffled, reminding you of a little boy. It brought a smile to your face to see his eyes sparkling with joy. Ever since he was back from the war, his beautiful blue eyes were often filled with melancholy but in rare and pure moments they reminded you of the Buck you had met all those years ago. And nothing was bringing you more happiness than his joy.
“Gloria,” you put the ketchup bottle on the table and smiled at your daughter, “Nana called and she sent you a million kisses,” you told her.
“Oh!” Gloria smiled widely. “I’m sending her a million, zillion kisses back!” She told you. “Mummy, look at uncle Rose, he’s a sailor,” she pointed her finger at Rosie.
“Uncle Rose?” You laughed and he winked at you.
“And daddy’s uncle Croco,” Connie approached you shyly to tell you.
“Croco, mhm,” you smiled at her. “And that handsome fella?” You pointed at Bucky who was grinning like an idiot.
“Uncle Bubu, at your service, ma’am,” he saluted you and nearly fell off of the chair as everyone laughed at him.
“Guess what’s our daddy!” Gloria pulled on your skirt excitedly.
“I’ve no idea,” you shook your head.
“Just guess!”
“Uncle Bucket?” You tried as Gloria and Connie giggled and Buck shot you an annoyed glance.
“Uncle Bug,” Gloria revealed.
“Oh!” You laughed. “I’ll try to remember all of these,” you promised. “Now, it’s time to eat, uncles-funny-names,” you told the men and arranged all the plates on the table. Connie started helping you without being told to and you looked at your daughter. “Do you see that, Gloria, how Connie’s helping me?” You asked her but she only rolled her eyes with a sigh and sat on Gale’s lap.
“Connie is older than me! When I’ll be as old as her, I will do that, too!” She told you and you laughed because she apparently wasn’t realising that the age difference between them was only a year
“I will remember that,” you assured her.

young vets au brain dump - croz being complicated version
Tumblr media
(disclaimer: i love croz. me making him a complicated little shit in this au should not be interpreted as character bashing. i find his journey over the course of mota fascinating and figuring out how to translate that to a different setting/different war has been a fun thought experiment for me. pls don’t jump me. messy characters make the world go round!)
him and jean met in high school. sweet babies.
then they *had* a baby a lot sooner than they were really expecting. both of em out of high school, but barley.
they love each other and do everything right but shit is hard and the military preys on people trying to make ends meet
so, well- 1+1=s 2 off to basic he goes.
ends up in afghanistan around the same time bucky and gale and all the other guys start rolling in there.
also ends up there with his bff from basic training, tech school and everything else. bubbles <3
the two of them end up bunking with demarco and douglas which is quite the right brain/left brain dynamic lol.
croz and bubbles' side of the room is snowglobes and kid pictures and demarco and douglas' side is women from magazines taped on the wall god love em.
gets along decently well with everyone but.
then bubbles dies and that's when everything really starts to go to shit.
i wrote a little about his initial fight with bucky about the IED that killed bubbles here.
they don't really make up from that.
for a long while.
croz is in a spiral about losing his best friend, bucky is starting to not do so well with the preindictment they're all in himself and they just. really set each other off.
kinda freaks everyone out bc they remember sweet baby face croz who puked a lot but now he's just different. damn war.
it gets to a point where him and bucky can't be in the same room without popping off at each other. and everyone else is having to micromanage them on top of having to do their actual jobs in war zone. (70% of the time its brady having to keep bucky away if not gale. croz's "insurance" buddies are rosie and douglas)
does end up getting involved with a girl in another unit
douglas and demarco clock it before anyone else bc he starts coming to bed at weird hours and they see him around this girl and just knowww.
pisses demarco off esp bc he had a whole Thing with finding out his girl back home cheated on him.
one night demarco decides to wait up for him to get back from wherever the fuck it is he goes with her at night and just about fucking jumps him and douglas has to pull him off (after he gets a good whack in)
it was a *loud* commotion of a fight lmfao bucky could hear it from their room and wanted to go see what was going on but gale was like noooppeee. no y' don't.
croz ends up telling jean everything. she forgives him. ("women! eliza could leave alex now for cheating on her. or not. as she wished." - vanessa nadal on eliza hamilton)
him and bucky make up during the pull out from afghanistan bc bucky just about saves his life in the chaos.
poor croz just breaks down crying/panicking about how he wants to go home. and bucky doesn't see that little shit that he's grown resentful towards, he sees that nervous pukey kid from when they first met
buttt...post war things get a little dicey again.
bc he stays in.
bagram sucked the war sucked but. he still has a family to provide for, he's not totally on the outs with the forces so he ultimately decides leaving would be more work than it's worth.
gets deployed to raf mildenhall base in england and gets to move with his wife and kiddos to england so. not a bad deal.
but there are. feelings. amongst the others about him staying in.
especially curt- who is the most "fuck all of that and the government too". getting his leg blown off fucked him up 7 ways to sunday and just completely shaped his view on it all.
the two of them get reallllly into it once when all the guys are together and it gets. ugly.
curt says a whole lot of shit about how he doesn't know how he can look at his kids knowing what they saw happen to kids overseas, what /they/ endorsed by being there. croz says its none of his business- he had his reasons for staying in, curt says name one that isn't selfish and it just. escalates. till they're both yelling and mean. croz eventually says something dumb on impulse about how he won't apologize for not letting the war radicalize him against his country and curt has to be yanked back from decking him lmfao. just another night!
if the others weren't all friends with both of em him and curt would not fuck with each other at allllll but. they love their friends more than they dislike each other so they smile and grind their teeth and *try*.
the whole thing with bucky's drinking issues brings them together because they're on the same page about that at least.
have a longgg talk when all that is going on. and it makes curt's chest hurt bc man he really has his issues with this kid but. he knows he's doing what he genuinely believes he has to, knows he only enlisted to begin with bc he felt like it was the only way he could provide for his family.
knows that all the issues he has with the guy the fuckin military is to blame for just as much if not more than croz is himself.
a more lighthearted side bar: bucky ribs him about staying in a little too- is just more lighthearted on it bc they have become more friendly since they left bagram (and get to being even better friends once they bucks have josie).
one night they're talkin when croz complains he can't do what he wants with his facial hair because of regs and bucky is like wellllll if you gotta the fuck outta there you could grow a handlebar mustache. don't let your dreams be dreams kid!

THIS IS LONG AS FUCK LMAO IM SO SORRY IN ADVANCE I REALLY JUST STARTED YAPPING but i saw your post abt mota characters being underdeveloped compared to other hbo war shows and had some Thoughts
this is something i’ve heard mentioned on a couple reviews from historian guys on youtube and podcasts etc. i’m honestly not sure how much of it is intentional and how much of it is a result of weird pacing and writing decisions made due to budget cuts or episode numbers being reduced or whatever but it is something i thought was interesting:
basically the way the show treats its characters is kinda reflective of the way the air war itself was for the men involved: at first you’d would arrive on base and make close friends and develop rapport with each other a la buck bucky curt croz etc. but then the attrition sets in - someone like curt dies, more and more crews disappear, and on base it’s like they never existed. you get jaded. it becomes harder to get close to the new guys because you know they’re more than likely gonna be dead after the next mission, or you will be, and they’ll have to deal with losing you. this is kinda reflected in the scene after buck n bucky meet rosie. ‘when we go down they won’t remember us either’ etc.
the show kinda does this with the characters it introduces. u meet the main guys in the beginning and get sort of familiar with them, enough to be attached, and then curt fucking dies. if you aren’t well versed in the real history (like i wasn’t) then you have no damn idea who’s surviving to the end, and that makes you approach the remaining leads a little differently. when buck goes down you don’t really know if you’ll see him again. ‘they wouldn’t kill him it’s austin butler’ but they killed barry keoghan already soooo maybe they will? maybe bucky is the main lead now? it’s hard to know who’s safe to stay invested in.
and then obviously we follow bucky through his little romp through germany and then the stalag, (which is tense as fuck because WE DONT KNOW IF HES SAFE NARRATIVELY SPEAKING) but when it switches back to base there’s no mention of him or buck after the initial loss. like they never existed. we get rosie and croz, and a bunch of brand new crews who we mostly don’t recognize and who blend together so easily we have no idea if they survive or not because we don’t care and neither does the show. there is not space to care (diagetically if youre a pilot because you stop putting effort in to get acquainted w them just to lose someone again, and irl because the show stops putting effort in to distinguish them from each other).
guys we even sort of recognize or give a fuck about like nash die immediately. or (this one is kinda a stretch bc obviously their storyline getting forgotten about probably isn’t intentional but) with quinn and bailey when their plot gets dropped you can look at it like the guys on base who cared about them have also died or been shot down, so they’re no longer important to follow. and when buck returns to base in 9 who greets him? croz and rosie. almost nobody else who remembers him is still around. they either died or went to the stalag with him, or to other ones like it.
the show essentially ends up mirroring its characters: starting out with the promise of brotherhood and wartime camaraderie and friendship etc etc and then having it UTTERLY SHATTERED by the realities of the kind of war they are fighting.
it’s honestly fascinating to me. i’ve very rarely experienced a show with a supposedly ensemble cast at the start where the ensemble aspect kind of just gets destroyed and the characters are all killed or permanently split up partway through.
yeah that’s interesting and you have good points. I wasn’t really talking about their bonds with each other though, more so their individual character arcs and personality traits that were often shallow or not fleshed out entirely. I understand not having much of a supporting cast because these men were so expendable, but there were characters like macon and alex etc. who could’ve been given more to do. people have even argued (I don’t know if I entirely agree) that buck and bucky had shallow characterization as well. I think it’s good that you can find that kind of meaning in the show but I don’t think the show does that great of a job at hitting home these points and kind of just arrives there incidentally
then there’s the question of why even adapt this material if it’s not very well suited for a narrative story in the first place. and people can argue about that I’m not gonna touch it lol
but I see your point. I just don’t think the show was that intentional about the way it handled its character arcs. it feels more like things just falling by the wayside than intentional thematic choices

I loved the little blurb you did about all the pre sex intimacy between Rosie and Ida!
I think the vignette about Rosie and Ida during the holidays has the chance to be so great. I can’t decide if I want it from her perspective being grossed out by her brother but like also kind of jealous of him. Or do I want Rosie’s panic while trying to stay rational because they really shouldn’t but holy shit his very pretty wife just climbed him like a tree. Maybe both?
Either way, I just wanted to say I love the two of them and can’t wait to see what else you write!!
AAAAAAAHHHH! -what if I told you I stayed up until three am last “night” writing a phone conversation between Ida and Rosie taking place the night of Johnny’s wedding when they’re both in the same state but worlds apart and it’s the first few weeks of peacetime stateside normalcy and well -they’re bereft without each other but damned if she’s gonna admit that.
So: imagine how happy I am to have more to scream about in my inbox. They’ve possessed my brain recently, we have no other choice but to go with it.
Honestly I love imperfect romantic scenes, ones that have the screwy presence (or even instigation? don’t call Freud on me) of family, the way someone like Rosie would try so hard to be good and measured about things and yet, as you’ve said: the woman he loves has climbed him like a tree and he is but a man.
But still, it doenst work that night despite it all. And I’m not sure which POV would be best, hehe.
Which leaves us with a humorous ending where Ida is in a bit of a huff and he’s good naturedly petting her hair and they’re both commenting on when the hell the activities upstairs are gonna wrap up. They’re about ready to grab a broom handle and start whacking the ceiling to get a message across.
But then, see, there’s a baby competition in the 100th and Croz already has a lead and god knows Cleven and Marge are probably in the running so, damned if the Brady’s don’t win that shit. So these two hold their peace and snicker about the good ole days when newlywed Johnny’s bed breaking bouts lasted all of fifteen seconds.

Diner Date-Croz/Bubbles
Summary: Bubbles and Croz fluff on a study date.
WC: 780
C/W: none.
MOTA Masterlist
Tumblr media
Both of them had their favorite things they did together. But both could consciously decide that their little diner dates were near the top of their list.
They always went to the same one, ‘Debies on Main’ and that’s where they were again today.
“Hey boys, the usual booth in the corner?” Sheryl, an older lady who worked there greeted them from the counter.
“Yes,” Bubbles nodded, grabbing Croz's hand blindly, pulling the shorter boy behind him. Croz felt the tips of his ears go bright red, anytime Bubbles touches him it’s like the first time all over again. Bubbles tossed his backpack into the corner of the booth sitting on the opposite side of Croz, “Did you have a good day?”
“Yep, Buck and I got our presentation done for AP world. I just have to catch up on my calc assignments.” Croz dug through his sage green backpack pulling out his textbook and folder, “What about you?”
“Eh, alright I guess. Curt and Bucky started another food fight at lunch and I had to help clean up. If I’m late for lit one more time Mr. Clark is gonna ring my neck.”
Croz hated not having lunch with Bubbles, he knew Bubbles felt the same way. So this was their time together, “it’s your turn to keep those buffoons in check. Doesn’t Rosie have lunch with you?”
“He’s been eating his lunch in the library.”
That’s all Bubbles had to say for Croz to know. Rosie had his own problems going on and the loud lunchroom with the obnoxious side of the friend group isn’t where he wanted to be.
“I can’t wait for the year to be over, I can’t go another semester without having lunch with you.” Croz reached over the table taking Bubbles hand, “I feel like this is my purgatory.”
“Sitting alone in the auditorium?” Bubbles perked up one of his eyebrows.
“Yes, exactly. It’s so quiet I feel as if I have to do homework during lunch.”
“Well at least you’re staying on top of it…?”
“I’d rather eat my lunch with my boyfriend in comfortable silence.” Croz patted Bubbles' hand. He was never going to get over that word, boyfriend. Bubbles is his boyfriend. He is Bubbles' boyfriend. The two had spent literal years dancing around the other and casually cuddling at sleepovers. Now it all somehow paid off? Although, Croz wished one of them would have spoken up earlier about their feelings. Because, good lord have mercy he loved the feeling of Bubbles soft lips against his. He always smelled so warm and comforting, Croz was absolutely obsessed with him.
“Next year, we both tell our counselors we have to have lunch together or we will start a French revolution.”
“Sounds perfect, but I don’t want to be Napoleon.”
Sheryl buzzed back over with their milkshake, with two straws and the basket of fries. They always ordered the same thing and always shared. “Enjoy and let me know if you need anything.”
“Thank you,” The two boys said at the same time. Croz reached for the ketchup bottle, giving it a good shake, “What’re you working on today?”
“Book report for lit,”Bubbles took the copy of Frankenstein out of his bag holding it up for Croz to see.
“Oh I really liked Frankenstein,” Croz took the book flipping through some of Bubbles sticky notes.
“Well, I am certainly not enjoying it, I can tell you that much.” Bubbles reached across the table, snatching it back from Croz, “It doesn’t make sense…like it's not written in old English but it's so confusing…but then it just shifts between The Creature and Doctor Frankenstein's point of views with no warning.”
“You just don’t get it.” Croz shook his finger at Bubbles handing the book back over to him.
“I’m just glad I’m almost done with it,” Bubbles snatched the book back.
The two worked quietly, the sounds of peoples laughter and conversations around them, covering up the clicking of Croz’s graphing calculator and the scratch of Bubbles pen on his notebook. Croz reached blindly for the fries in the basket, his hand unexpectedly running into Bubbles.
“Fancy seeing you here,” Croz snickered looking up at the handsome, red head.
“Didn’t expect to see you here?” Bubbles let a toothy grin spread on his face holding Croz’s hand. The two went back to silently working, but Croz stretched out his leg, accidentally nudging Bubbles' foot. Bubbles continued nudging Croz's foot until the other began playing footsie with him under the table.
The two continued on at their assignments finding a happy blend of comfortable silence and spending time together outside of school.
