Actually, you know what the funniest thing about shipping Leaf or any of the first four gen girls is? THEY'RE ALL WAY OLDER. You'd think the biggest complaint fandom would have is going nooOOO they're ELEVEN. Except for the part where Gen 1 and 3 happen at the same time. As do Gen 2 and 4. With a three year timeskip. And then a TWELVE year timeskip. Two more; BW2 and XY happen at the same time. Add another year for Alola. Red and Blue are stated to be like. I think it was 31 in the S/M/USUM games last I checked. Leaf would be almost 10 years older than Leon (his Charmander could've been a child of Red's Charizard for all we know! I actually like to write Kantrio visiting Galar and inspiring the next gen of trainers in game-verse.) Instead I'm mostly meddling around in the anime-verse which is mostly a found-family fic so all my ships are really just joked about. Doesn't mean I haven't recycled through a ship or two as I was playing around with the fic though lol, but alas the interest wore off and I need to stick with my themes. I'm curious though, is Leaf and Green endgame for you? Also LOVE whatever you're doing including Mizuki in your Au. With the aforementioned "Kanto kids are millennials" my Leaf (game-verse) has lowkey adopted the Alola kids (with them completely unknowing she was One of The Famous Kanto Trainers From The 1996(7?) Indigo League, until Red and Blue come to Alola and hugs! reunions! tfw your mom is super friendly with your idols and your world view is flipping upside down) what's your version :D also YES shaking your hand Red and Leaf siblings trueee. out of all the protags, they look the most like twins to me. Even Hilda and Hilbert have diff eye colors, May and Brendan literally have diff parents and skin tones. Probs the only character other than Kris and Gen 2 Gold who doesn't appear as an NPC. Also, I like Thundra as a name for a Raichu! I think it fits :) laughing at you going with Kaminari as a name tho, bc I legit did the same thing with the Jolteon I give her in pre-anime fic AU (its a whole mess) or Denki (yes bnha lmao) until I saw someone spell it was "Denshi" as a nickname and thought that was cute and made it less like an obvious reference. Also considered Raijuu.
I think the funniest thing about the core series timeline topic is the fact that technically, according to several developers, there actually IS no true canon timeline.
Masuda: It starts to get a little complicated if you pay too much attention to timelines. Like, there might be a professor that appears, and it wouldn’t make sense at all if we applied that kind of timeline logic. So we try not to apply it too rigorously.
Matsumiya: Elapsed time is secret. Imagine freely!
I certainly will imagine freely, Mr. Matsumiya.
I stated this in the last ask I answered, but Sisterhood operates under a different timeline than the "canon" one. For example, the events of SwSh take place after HGSS/DPP and before SM/USUM, which takes place before B2W2/SV. BW also takes place at the same time as XY, and between FRLG/ORAS and HGSS/DPP.
I do have a visual guide, for reference.
As for Leaf and Green being endgame, I've considered Sisterhood being somewhat similar to an otome game, in the sense that the protagonists have a selection of boys they could date in a series of alternate story paths. However, for most of them there is someone who I consider their "true" love interest in Sisterhood.
For Leaf, this is Green. For Touko, this is N. For Haruka, this is Steven. For Hikari/Akari, this is Volo. And so on.
Some of the male protagonists are the sibling of the female protagonists in Sisterhood: Leaf is Red's younger twin sister, Touko is Touya's older twin sister, Gloria is Victor's younger sister by two years, and Juliana is the older twin sister of Florian. As a sidenote, Gloria and Juliana are first cousins.
Even when they normally wouldn't appear in canon if not chosen as the protagonist, every character has a role in Sisterhood somewhere. Kris is Kotone's friendly (but still tough) rival!
And speaking of Leaf's Raichu, 'Kaminari' was sort of a beta name until I found something else I liked better.
This ended up being 'Lumine'.

Mention just one 'help' which doesn't benefit her in the end please? Just one. She's a spy. She's designed to be a femme fatale. The devs confirms that. Just look at how she dresses. She's trained to be manipulative. She's 'pretty', like one of the replies say. Unfortunately rookie wide-eyed Leon fell right into that and some ppl derive pleasure from watching this unhealthy relationship.
Are you writing a book proposal, anon? What’s with the fancy wordplay? I feel like I’m in the heavy exposition of a poorly written thriller right now lol. “Unfortunately”. ajdfklasjdfa
Anyways, I actually don’t owe you literally any explanation, but I’ll give you a small one.
I don’t derive any pleasure from watching the unhealthy aspects of their relationship. Nor do I posit that their relationship is all fluffy daisies and happy healthy dynamics. However, that doesn’t negate the fact that Ada has, in fact - on multiple occasions - helped Leon without any benefit to herself.
It’s strange that you would be putting all of these facts about her down as if they disprove anything. But her being any of these things (a spy, pretty, manipulative, self serving, etc...) doesn’t immediately negate all other aspects of her personality. In fact, these character traits are set up purposefully to provide depth of character. They’re meant to contradict. That’s what creates a large part of the relationship’s appeal. Ada, despite everything she is and everything she’s done, reveals parts of herself to Leon that one would never expect her to even have, let alone show him.
Tbh, I love how you’re coming into my inbox telling me she’s all of these things as if I somehow don’t already know it lmao. But I know she’s a femme fatale. As a writer and an avid lover of the character archetype, I’ve actually written a few femme fatale characters myself. They’re an interesting archetype, although rarely are they written with the love and precision of thought they deserve. Oftentimes they’re reduced to being simply pretty faces for men to ogle at, with no real complexity except to serve the male characters.
The re games go wrong with Ada many times over. They go wrong in a lot of ways. But Ada is not without complexity and she is not without a variety of unique facets to her personality. She is also not without love. She is not without compassion or worry or fear or anger or protectiveness. She is not without softness and vulnerability. She is not without selflessness.
Despite everything.
Despite herself.
I don’t actually have to give you a character breakdown, though. I don’t have to give you anything. And to be quite honest, if there’s one thing Capcom isn’t good at, it’s making such character complexity unnoticeable. Capcom is lacking in microexpressions and minute details that first go unnoticed. It’s lacking in any kind of subtlety at all. However, it is quite good at showing you one part of a personality with such fervor that other aspects are often overlooked. Maybe that’s where you’ve gone wrong.
But I shouldn’t have to explain to you something that is made quite obvious throughout all of the games. Even if it is overshadowed by Ada’s less than stellar personality traits. Her better qualities are still quite...quite glaring.
And just so you know? Assuming that every person who ships Aeon derives a sick sort of pleasure out of the unhealthy aspects is the highest form of bias you could be going into this argument possessing. You legitimately do not know a single thing about the people behind the screens of these computers, and to assume that that is the appeal of the relationship? After years of development between the characters and 6+ games in the franchise? Yeah, you’ve got a bug up your ass and blinders on. Go read a fucking book.

Gushing time.
Rune Factory 4 Special arrived a day early, so my entire day has been consumed in nostalgia. The original Rune Factory 4 was the first video game I ever bought on release day - I remember saving up all my money and making my mum drive me to like three different shops trying to find one that had it. I was already a fan of the franchise - before then, Rune Factory 3 had been my favourite video game, across the board. Aside from a playthrough of the first game last year, I haven’t played a Rune Factory game in a long time, certainly not RF4. But just starting up the game and hearing the music again, it was like it was suddenly seven years ago. Running around Selphia and seeing all the characters again - I love JRPGs, have played a lot of them, and I can think of very few that have characters that have stuck with me this long. And the aesthetics - the best thing about the Rune Factory franchise has always been the aesthetics, the music, the scenic and character design, just the general world. It’s a beautifully whimsical balance of urban and fantasy, and it’s the only JRPG world I think I’ve ever come across that I would genuinely want to live in. Rune Factory may no longer be my favourite game franchise - but I don’t think there has ever been another series that has felt so much like home to me.
Here’s a very long selection of personal highlights from the art book (by which I mean photos of the art followed by my rambling opinions):
Tumblr media
Yeah, see, here’s the thing - Rune Factory 1 is not a good game. I could write an entire essay on why it’s bad (I actually started and got pretty damn far before realising no one’s interested in my two thousand word review of a game that came out over a decade ago - the short version is ‘Misty Bloom-fucking-Cave’. Anyone who’s played RF1 knows exactly what I mean). Don’t get me wrong, it has good qualities - excellent boss fights, for one, and also, as with the rest of the franchise, it is aesthetically wonderful. But ultimately, it feels less like playing a video game, and more like playing a proof of concept for a game. Which I guess it kind of was - and I can’t hate it because we wouldn’t have the rest of the series without it.
But it literally ends with a dragon spewing plant breath on a tank to make a turnip grow out of the gun. ‘Profound’, my arse.
Tumblr media
It’s Raguna! The “master sowrdsman!” (that is not a typo on my part that is a direct quote from the ending of Rune Factory 1 this game’s script had so many issues-). And Mist! My favourite of the ‘canon’ love interests!
Tumblr media
Best girl! When I was a kid, my favourite love interest in RF1 was Rosetta. As an adult, it is Tabatha. I don’t know what it is about her that I find so likeable (she’s as lacking in personality as any other RF1 character), but... idk, I just like her a lot.
Tumblr media
Camus’s big ambition is to leave town like even once. He will never achieve it
Tumblr media
Fun fact about Melody is that she’s extremely depressed, a fact that comes up once in an optional side quest and is never addressed again. It’s incredibly dark for an RF game
Tumblr media
Fun fact about Lukas is that he sucks (he’s one of those ‘obsessed with talking about how hot all the girls are’ characters, an archetype that thankfully doesn’t show up again in these games). But also, interestingly enough, thanks to one of RF1′s many, many script errors, if you marry Rosetta (the girl Lukas is the most obsessed with), he’s supposed to express disappointment that he lost her to Raguna - but instead, he implies that he’s disappointed to have lost Raguna to her. The translators typoed their way into giving him a sexuality change. Which is honestly kind of amazing.
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THIS SLIME THIS IS SUCH A COOL SLIME LITERALLY EVERY OTHER JPRG SLIME GO HOME DRAGON QUEST GET FUCKED (jk I like Dragon Quest a lot and its slimes are cool too). Wish you could see in-game that this is what they’re meant to be like.
Tumblr media
I just generally love the monster designs, they’re really charming
Tumblr media
Rune Factory 2! The RF game with the most weirdly mundane protagonist name (Kyle. In the main four games of this franchise we’ve got Raguna, Micah, Lest, Frey... and Kyle). The two generations thing was actually very cool, but when they say ‘each chapter captures a different lifestyle’, what they really mean is ‘the first half is a weak Harvest Moon I’m sorry, STORY OF SEASONS game, and the second half is a pretty good Rune Factory game’
Tumblr media
lookit this little fuck
Tumblr media
Yue Yue Yue! I love Yue so much, she’s great. She’s kind of like a much chiller version of Anna from Fire Emblem.
Tumblr media
It’s really cool that we got to see grown up Cecilia (she was in RF1). I have this silly headcanon that if Kyle doesn’t marry Mana, Nicholas (her friend in 1) comes to visit Cecilia one day in the hazy-post game future, and meets Mana, and they get together. While Yue is my favourite, I do genuinely like Mana a lot, and I just want her to find love, I guess.
Tumblr media
Here’s original Barrett! There’s a reason he was popular enough to make a reappearance (well, aside from the whole grumpy pretty boy thing he’s got going on) - he was a great character in this game. His and Dorothy’s relationship is also definitely the most compelling of the rival romances. Bonus Max, who also has a little shout-out in RF4 (check the diary in what will become Dylas’s bedroom at the start of the game)
Tumblr media
Ray is male, but apparently he was originally going to be a female character, as he has an unused portrait in a wedding dress. My friend and I agree that this makes him a Trans Icon
Tumblr media
Monster designs remain excellent. Especially the goblins
Tumblr media
Skipping over Frontier (and also Oceans later), as I never got to play it growing up due to not having a console, and still haven’t got around to it - might try this summer. Except I do need to point out that these guys should be memes. I don’t know in what way. But they should.
Tumblr media
Rune Factory 3! My first RF game. The transformation thing was very cool, even if it was basically useless outside the main story. My friend and I spent hours mucking about in the WiFi dungeon. I loved the desert settlement and all of the dungeon designs in general, and man, RF3 is just great. I hope it gets a remake one day.
Tumblr media
Raven Raven Raven! I LOVE Raven (as do most). Her story with Micah is the first time I can remember getting genuinely invested in a video game romance. I’m so glad she cameos in RF4. I love her. She’s wonderful.
Tumblr media
I have an odd fondness for Marian. When I was about twelve, I decided to do a playthrough where I deliberately romanced the least popular bachelorette. After poking around on forums, I determined that character to be Marian, and did a run with her. And... I actually came to really like her. I find her endearing. I get that people find her annoying and don’t like her... unethical medical practices, but doing that run has still made me a pretty protective of her. It’s been a long time since I played RF3, so maybe I’d change my mind if I replayed now, but currently, as far as I’m concerned,  Marian’s a good’un.
I think I also used to low key ship her with Collette lol
Tumblr media
Pia’s official art has always been super weird to me because it’s so not what her character is like in-game. She’s a ditzy airhead. This makes her look so serious
Tumblr media
RAINBOW! Another character whose art makes them look way more serious than they actually are. Daria is great and would be a meme if this game was more popular. I think she’s also implied to be a relative of Margaret.
Tumblr media
I’ve always been super confused about what Kuruna’s skirt is meant to be. Is it fur? Is it part of her shirt? Is it even a skirt at all?
Tumblr media
Check it out, it’s the guy everyone would ship Micah with if this game was more popular
Tumblr media
I want Zaid to make a reappearance and interact with Doug. Pretty sure it’s canon that they’re from the same clan? Think it would be very interesting.
Tumblr media
RF3 definitely had the coolest farm. Also, still love the desert settlement.
Tumblr media
This is from Oceans, so I have no context, but it’s just so cool that I had to share
Tumblr media
Rune Factory 4. Culmination of the series is right - when I was playing it for the first time, I remember being blown away by just how much it is a true love letter to the franchise. I have never come across another game series that so consistently grew and improved from entry to entry. RF4 was a perfect ending.
Not that I’m complaining about getting RF5. Quite the opposite.
But if it had been the end (as we all thought it was until about a year ago), well, like I say. Perfect.
Tumblr media
Well. Aside from soda can nipples. Can’t believe they didn’t fix those. Though in some ways, that would have made me sad too
Tumblr media
Dolce has such a cool design, in both human and monster form. I’ve always kind of crack-shipped her with Margaret, for no real reason at all
Tumblr media
Vishnal! I love Vishnal. Vishnal is pure as heck. Marrying him this time around.
Tumblr media
Doug! My choice from last time around. Another character who looks more serious in his official art than he is in-game (well... most of the time)
Tumblr media
And then there’s Dylas, who looks much happier here than he does most of the time. Kind of looks like he and Doug swapped bodies, actually. There’s a fanfic prompt for you.
Their ship name is Dyldo. I love them
Tumblr media
Leon is nostalgic for me mostly because my friend and I used to get into a lot of arguments about whether or not he’s the hottest character in the game. She maintains that he is, because muscles. I maintain that muscles aren’t actually that attractive. It is a rift that divides us to this day
(He looks oddly... younger in this art though? Weird)
Tumblr media
Sechs Empire is such an unfortunate name. Seriously. How rushed was RF1′s localisation team? All those script errors, and then this (the Sechs were the antagonists in the first game, and were only referenced in passing in the rest until RF4 - so it was a bit of a ‘sins of the father’ situation by then).
Seriously, try saying ‘Sechs Emperor’ out loud and tell me you can take this man seriously
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I??? Love??? Them???
Tumblr media
I??? LOVE??? THEM???
Tumblr media
Still confused as to why Kiel, Xiao Pai, Arthur and Margaret are on the cover now. Don’t get me wrong, I like them, but... Amber, Dylas, Dolce and Leon made way more sense? Even the Archival Cover makes more sense (Vishnal, Clorica, Forte), as those three are all kind of Lest/Frey’s servants (well, Forte for the whole town, but still). Of those first four, all but Arthur basically lift right out of the game with little-to-no impact on the story
Tumblr media
NO HAT TABATHA NO HAT TABATHA
Tumblr media
I’ve always really loved this Raven picture
Tumblr media
And I am thankful for you <3

detroit become racist for 1. and claire for 3
when i get called out for posting about dbh i’m dragging u down with me
Favorite character: i mean... connor
Least Favorite character: answering this is making me feel like i’ve definitely answered this before LMAO anyway uh. Uh. so many of them are very easy to hate! i guess gavin because he’s got that added terrible layer of being a fandom favourite for some incomprehensible reason (actually it’s because he’s a young white man)
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): that’s SO MANY SHIPS i don’t think i even have?? one???? oh no no i lied big time actually markus/simon is canon in my heart. um. i think kara and luther are cute together. uh. uh. the tracis?? are gay?? so that’s good! so there’s 3. i don’t think. i can come up with two more lol
Character I find most attractive: north is REALLY pretty unfortunately. oh also there’s a random android model that you see around sometimes that’s like the most beautiful woman i’ve ever seen??? thinking about her... OH also just remembered that the model that ralph is is rly pretty and also just straight made up like that face wasn’t modeled after anybody which is probably why it’s nice lol
Character I would marry: none of these bitches are worthy of my hand
Character I would be best friends with: UHHHH. uh. idk uh. simon seems chill. i don’t know if i would get along with most of these characters honestly?? i’m far too much of a bitch. maybe hank actually, i think i could handle him
a random thought: i want to replay detroit again but dude all of markus’s segments literally suck so much that thinking about being forced to play them makes me die a little bit
An unpopular opinion: rk900 shows up for MAYBE 10 seconds and i don’t think gavin reed wants to suck his dick
My Canon OTP: those two very naked lesbians. can i point out that they’re sex bots and wearing literally the least sexy underwear in existence. like they’re wearing sports bras. wtf.
My Non-canon OTP: *thinking about markus and simon and the fact that if u keep simon alive the game acts like this is not the case*
Most Badass Character: everybody in this game is a fucking loser
Most Epic Villain: society....
Pairing I am not a fan of: hankcon is bad and like yes the whole game is bad but i’m gonna execute anybody who ships father-son relationships in any media
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): ALL OF THEM LOL but ESPECIALLY kara
Favourite Friendship: hank and connor :’) they’re the only part of the game that i’d actually call good bc i’m a sucker and a bitch for found family shit
Character I most identify with: the blue haired traci played by bryan dechart’s wife bc i’m also an angry lesbian who can’t act
Character I wish I could be: jerry
and now.... She
How I feel about this character: she’s GOOD!!! like all my opinions on her just come from re2make really and like... bruh... she feels like a rly realistic older teenage girl?? her dialogue is funny, i love her attitude about everything, and taking on an apocalypse daughter was SO galaxy brain of her. i love claire. genuinely my fave and really just.. such a refreshing character after playing through leon’s campaign since they’re too cowardly to give their male characters any hint of personality outside of Cool
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: none bc they won’t give her a lesbian friend :/
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: obvi her relationship with sherry is just *chef’s kiss* but honestly playing through darkside chronicles on 2-player was a lot of fun bc her and steve bounced off each other rly well. praying for a cv remake so My claire can hang with steve
My unpopular opinion about this character: her redesign is literally superior in every way and idk how unpopular that is but it’s the truth. take the nostalgia goggles off. she looked worse.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: wish she was a fuckin dyke :/
Favorite friendship for this character: oh i thought that’s what the non-romantic relationship question was. okay i’ll just use this space to say that despite the fact they get like three scenes together i like her relationship w leon and i Really Wish they got to interact more in re2make :^(
My crossover ship: HMMM......... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... honestly have no idea but a hot lady for sure. maybe one that gets her to eat a vegetable

@krtonomy replied to “This Bi L@nce discourse is driving me up the fricking wall...”
wait whats wrong with having lance as bi rep?? ive never heard anyone say that before :0
**As a general disclaimer, I am just sharing my own opinions and some helpful posts. I am by no means the authority on the matter and other bi people may feel differently.
Hi friend! I’m glad you asked! I’m going to link you to two great posts by @dent-de-leon here and here. I highly encourage you to read them in full yourself, but large chunks of them aren’t just addressing bi Lance but also K/L, so I’ll pull some snippets out that I find to be super helpful in explaining:
“It seems bizarre to me to praise him as an actual bi idol (beyond just fanon) when so far he’s flirted exclusively with girls, flirted with practically every girl, has never once flirted with a guy, has an official character bio that literally says “he thinks he’s everybody’s friend, especially if they’re cute and female,” and has fantasies of striking a male power pose while girls on their knees cling to his leg. Like, I literally cannot imagine it getting more heteronormative than that. And saying he’s somehow bi in canon is giving credit where it just isn’t due. And honestly, if it was true? I would find this “representation” pretty offensive.”
“I’m a bi guy, and I’ve personally never felt there was any indication of bi Lance in canon. He flirts with many girls very often, but never expresses the same interest in guys. Lance is actually one of the few characters where we know for certain how he reacts when he’s romantically interested in someone, and you really only see that level of interest around girls.”
“...I personally just don’t think it would be good representation. It perpetuates stereotypes like: bi guys are of course very flirty playboys, as there’s this idea that if you’re attracted to more than one gender then you must be very promiscuous...This notion that he’s very flighty when it comes to girls and can just move right on from one to the next in passing interest and then suddenly there’s this guy who’s just The One [in regards to K/L] that he’d be solely devoted to–that’s really unsettling to me. It implies that not only does Lance see women as merely conquests with no affinity for anything deeper–it implies that you’re somehow “more bi” or a better person if you’re in a relationship with someone of the same gender. I don’t prioritize my interest in guys and girls and one doesn’t make me a better possible partner than the other. I feel by showing Lance treating girls this way and then being solely committed to one guy out of nowhere it would also go with that stereotype that you have to “choose a side” and this was something I’ve seen a lot in fanon–lots of people liked “bi Lance,” but only if you weren’t shipping him with girls.”
“Lance’s official character bio literally includes the phrase “Lance think’s he’s everyone’s best friend, especially if they’re cute and female.” He has fantasies of girls kneeling before him and clinging to his leg while he stands in some male power pose. I seriously don’t think anyone else is presented as more straight in canon honestly and if this is supposed to be bi representation then like…I’m a bit offended.”
Of course this is only one man’s opinion, and other bi men might disagree, but I’ve seen much more support and agreement regarding this than negatives.
As far as my own personal take as a bi woman, it makes me sad that people are pushing for bi rep from a character that has been shown to be straight when there are plenty of other characters whose orientations haven’t even been hinted at. Why not Bi Pidge, or Allura? Keith? Shiro? Hunk? Coran? There is plenty of time and opportunity to introduce these characters as Bi (or any other LGBT+ orientation for that matter) and to do it well, while if it was Lance, it would seem messy, last minute, and slapped on for the sake of “representation.”
I do not want my representation to be a last minute decision. I want it fleshed out, unapologetic, obvious, apparent, developed. I don’t wants “hints” of someone being bi, I want someone who’s fully and completely acknowledged as bi (if you want an example of what I’m talking about, I suggest watching B99 and Rosa’s recent coming out episode).
Apparently, in the VLD universe, they’re in a time where homophobia is long gone. I want any bi representation to reflect that reality. Hints of something isn’t rep, and even then I feel like these “hints” that the fandom likes to grasp aren’t “hints” at all. It’s become very apparent to me that the only reason people want bi Lance is for shipping purposes and... guys, that hurts. It’s hurtful. I don’t like seeing my identity being carelessly used as a shipping device.
And that isn’t to say that there aren’t ways to write Bi Lance well. I’ve seen some great content with well-developed, well-written Bi Lance. But that’s fan content. Fans have the space and time to write a story like that. The great thing about fan content is that you don’t have to stick within the confines of canon. You can create your own story. The VLD creators don’t have that luxury. If the creators wanted to make Bi Lance and they wanted to do it well, that train has long since left the station.
But who knows, maybe I’ll be surprised. I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be happy if any character was confirmed as LGBT+. I just desperately want it to be done appropriately.

Ive been meaning to apologize to you properly i really did not wanted to get under your skin but i have just word things real poorly which makes me sound real arrogant. Hope you can forgive me and if not i'll just get out of your way and wish you the best
First of all, “Gays are disgusting and should not exist” was NOT the intention. But using the word “insult” though true for some, was an insult in itself. For that I must apologise. Initially the ask was more than 5 times longer, but character limitations meant many cuts, changes and it got more blunt in order to fit. Then I got tired and sent it as is, I’m sorry for that too. So I have done what I should have in the last ask; split it (whether you intend to carry on reading or not). This is 1/6
2/6. Wouldn’t IS give the option for characters to choose from either gender if that were the case? They could exchange half the S-supports with ones of the same gender and keep the overall amount for constraint concerns, or laziness. The fact that it is made in Japan who still withholds traditionalism and by mostly older men who grew up in that environment supports this theory.
3/6. Even for fictional characters fans like to delve into every aspect of characters as if they were real. It helps to know all about them to write about them. So I assumed your thoughts on Leo were concrete; doesn’t help that your analysis of characters are logical and that others say similar too, so it feels like heterosexuals are looked down on or overshadowed by LGBT that has taken the media by storm. This is where my questions arose from. I guess this is what LGBT community have felt.
4/6. I don’t recall many LGBT events in the medieval era, but in the ancient times of Romans and Celts they existed as the norm. Since the subject was mostly about Leo I was asking in terms of royalty as well, for their line that must carry on it seems to make more sense for heterosexual relationships to be the norm - anything outside of that can go on whichever path they like because they aren’t restrained by royal duties or for some social barriers.
5/6. If I could change Camilla’s armour I would, along with Charlotte’s, Nyx, Kagero, Ophelia, the berserker and Oni classes and do something with Orochi’s top. I would also give F!Corrin leggings like her male counterpart, and make them better in the story that matches with their support conversations so people would stop bullying them. I blame the developers for that. But even if I could change it the damage is done, and people will continue to hate.
6/6. (It seems that you can only ask 5 times before waiting around an hour) And I guess I do have a case of homophobia, its something that I’m still trying to understand and get used to. Though not outright crushing, I do appreciate some of the same gender. Is this what you mean by “…fall in some place in-between.”? Then yes, this would relate to everyone.
(Very long answer below the cut)
Like I said yesterday, I really appreciated this ask (series) and know how much courage it must have taken you to do so (yes, even on anon). I do admit, that some of the things you said really got under my skin, but that was mostly because it’s a very sensitive topic for me, not because your ask was particularly hostile. It was worded very.. unfortunately, true, but I could tell you weren’t outright malicious. You also caught me at a bad time I guess.
1) I didn’t actually think you were trying to say that, but I feel it’s the feeling behind the word “insult”. Of course, you didn’t intend that word either, butI didn’t back then. I just feel that being “offended” (only word I can find right now) by someone elses private headcanon (of a character being bi in this case), is, well, that person’s own problem.. As long they aren’t trying to force their headcanon on others, people are entitled to believe whatever they want about a character. If you really cannot deal with seeing someone elses’ headcanon, unfollow that person or ask them to tag the posts that talk about it. Ultimately, people should be able to talk about their interpretations on their private blogs, and it’s on you to avoid whatever you cannot deal with.
2) Again, whatever Intsys thinks or intended about the characters doesn’t affect my headcanons.. that’s literally the definition of it. Something that is canon to me, and not canon canon. I am sure they didn’t intend for Leon to be viewed as LGBT, but they know that catering to fangirls is a straight way to $$$, so they probably think of adding bi options in the first place as fanservice or something. I am definitely calling Death of the Author on this one. Their intentions matter zilch to me when I analyze the game. It’s only fair, since my opinion, on it’s own, matters zilch to them either, and I doubt I am going to convince them of making Leo bi in canon. My only way to respond is sharing headcanons which I feel make sense with the established facts… not rewriting the script. I don’t see how I am not allowed to do that because it’s not official canon. Most of fandom is build on headcanons, and I am sure you have your own ideas about a story that the author either didn’t specify or clearly didn’t intend. We are’t just mindlessly consuming media like gospel. Each and every one of us walks away with a different interpretation of it. And I think that can be very beautiful and sometimes even better than what happened in canon.
3) My thoughts on Leon, are that his relationships with men are very close in a way that’s more relaxed and feels more intimate to me than with many of his S-ranks. Part of that has to do with not being reminded of Camilla, but I also feel like there is something he shares with Takumi in particular that he doesn’t with anyone else. If you interpret it as friendship, that’s fine by me. I just think there’s something else to it, and I love being able to explore it in fandom. There are certainly people in the fandom that bash hetero couples, but I find a lot of the time those people are straight themselves and often in it to fetishize gay people/relationships anyway. But for those who don’t do this… you have to understand fandom is a tiny bubble compared to the mainstream audiences. It’s a safe haven for many, who can get pretty aggressive in defending what they believe is “their turf”. Because outside of it.. if you say a certain character is gay/bi/other you’ll get disbelief at best and outright hostility at worst. LGBT are alienated from many places, so they tend to be very concentrated wherever they aren’t. Doesn’t mean it’s a good thing to try and drive out others of course. I do have “straight” ships myself, and I am always annoyed when people try to prevent me from shipping them. (As you can tell, I am very adamant on being allowed to “do my own thing” no matter which side).
4) There were multiple non-straight monarchs in medieval times (though opinions vary of course and records are fragmented from those times). Like William II (either gay or ace) or Edward II (probably bi or gay) to name only English examples. Of course, producing an heir is always an issue for royalty, (or aristocrats in general) and it’s certainly interesting to think of Leon being faced with it, which more than one fic has explored in the past. He may deal with it like Philippe, Duke of Orléans did: Fathering kids in an arranged marriage while having male lovers. Or relying on Xander and his sisters (whose offspring are still considered royalty) to keep the line going. Birthright is the only scenario where he is outright forced to have an heir himself, and again, that doesn’t exclude potential lovers, though I admit I don’t imagine him taking one in that route.
5) So you agree the developer’s can be very frustrating sometimes haha;; Anyway, I mainly just pulled out Camilla as an example for unrealistic armour, because I am so used to people who pull the medieval argument being very selective when it comes to the stuff (such as certain GOT fans ardently defending the sexism as historical, but not batting an eye at shaved armpits and anachronistic dresses). My point was that Fates is in a fantasy world and does not adhere to medieval standards in multiple ways, nor does it have to since it’s explicitly not a historical documentary (though I do wish they’d tone down the fanservice too). It just can’t be judged by them, since it’s a product of the 21st century.
6) Being able to admit that is already a good sign, since it involves a lot of self-reflection. I am sure it’s hard to overcome one’s ingrained beliefs, and it takes a lot of time, but I think you are on the right track. So long as you try to keep an open mind about things and educate yourself I am sure you’ll continue to make progress. And yes, I think that most people experience some form of “attraction” (sexual or romantic) for either gender, just to varying degrees. I am glad I could explain this to you, and thank you for taking the time to consider it.
