Omg, I want all of those posts. But I'm curious about 16. Also how she fits in with the staff.
I know people want the staff to love her, but I'm not so convinced. At least one maid would cause problems apart from the butler that does not approve of Sophie taking tea with the family. It's Shonda, she's gonna build drama.
But I'm curious about your thoughts.
I definitely agree with you! So I do think they could do a servants storyline in the show. I’m going to start by explaining the general vibe then some ideas for how servants could play into the narrative.
General Servants:
From the servant’s POV she is a ‘country girl’ who has suddenly been thrust into their established ecosystem due to a ‘friendship’ with one of the mistress’ sons—without a reference. Some might think the worse, others will just view this as unearned privilege.
This is exacerbated by some misunderstandings surrounding Sophie’s behaviour:
I think it was @bridgertonbabe who pointed out that Sophie, due to the harsh treatment under Araminta, might have a lot of anxiety when working. Therefore, she is extremely efficient after a lifetime when every little mistake of hers garnered verbal or physical abuse. However, to those ignorant of Sophie’s past, this might be perceived as a ‘try hard’ attitude to schmooze her way into positions of privilege. When Sophie starts receiving etra attention from the Bridgertons and Mrs Wilson this perception worsens.
Secondly, I feel Sophie would be quite closed off to the other servants. Due to her past and paranoia over Araminta, Sophie would not actively engage with others, venture out with other maids on days off or participate in the gossip around the kitchen table. Sophie dreads anyone finding out her ‘shameful’ background so she holds her cards close to her chest. Not only does this isolate Sophie but other servants perceive it as her feeling ‘high and mighty’.
Time pases and perceptions starts to change. Sophie does not boast or seek validation for her work. Sophie instinctively helps—doing jobs typical Lady’s maids would frown upon. She is not part of the Lady’s maid clique that rules the rest of the staff for she talks to everyone with respect.
Overall, while people are still quite suspect of Sophie, she is generally tolerated and liked if not actively invited into group participation.
So this is my idea of how Sophie generally fits in with the servants. However, in the show, I think they could do a storyline to focus this, not a massive plot, one that links with other plots.
Idea 1: Queen Bee Helene
Tumblr media
With any social group there are typical groupings and dynamics—even among the servatns. It is my idea that the lady’s maids, (individuals with a bit more privilege) have grouped together with Helene as their leader.
Helene would be Francesca’s lady’s maid, self-appointed and particularly inflated because Francesca is about to become a Countess. That means Helene is to become a lady’s maid to a Countess not just some Vicount;s sister. Now, Helene is not a bad Lady’s maid, she gets the job done to the standard expected in the Bridgerton household. But she is not truly Francesca’s friend, because Francesca is naturally reticent so one needs to put in a little bit of effort before Francesca open. And Helene hasn’t really done that.
Now, Sophie—this random maid-- suddenly arrives. And Sophie really, really annoys Helene. Because according to ignorant Helene…
Sophie’s efficiency at work and natural selflessness is obviously Sophie trying to undermine the other maids.
Sophie doesn’t wish to be part of Helene’s little circle because she thinks she is above Helene. And Helene is used to people wanting to be her friend rather than the other way round.
Sophie gets unearned privileges by being allowed to sit with the family during tea. It is unfair that Sophie is so close to the Bridgerton girls after a mere few weeks when Helene has worked for years for half of that respect. How has a country girl with no references charmed her way into the family?
Consequently, Helene stirs up hostility towards Sophie to undermine her and retain control. And while people might like Sophie, they don’t want to cross Helene—so they stay quiet and stay away.
This tension causes Sophie to be isolated further and comes to a climax when Helene finds out that Sophie is to become Francesca’s Lady’s maid. (This occurs because Anthony finds out about Benophie and wants to deal with the potential scandal--posted here. Sophie agrees due to being heartbroken over Benedict). This is one of the reasons why Sophie eventually leaves the Bridgertons (a topic for another post).
However, a couple other member of staff would be exceptions and play a role in other subplots of the season…
Idea 2: Nadia.
Now this is another new character that the show could add. This is because Nadia is returning to Bridgerton House after leaving to work with Lady Penwood. The reason for her leaving, (as she tells Sophie) is that her family needed some extra income due to unforeseen epenses (and injury/illness etc.)
And instead of scorning her for chasing gold like the other servants, Sophie befriends and aids her (knowing all too well how Araminta might have treated her). The purpose for this character would be:
The abuse that Nadia has experienced causes various people to peer a little closer to Lady Penwood—like Eloise. Either Penelope or Eloise could use Nadia as the base for a Whistledown article exposing Araminta’s conduct (A key plot point in the novel).
Mrs Wilson starts to connect how Nadia is acting post-Araminta to how Sophie acts. (Paranoia over mistakes, subdued nature and nightmares). This leads her to start to suspect a link between Sophie…
Heightens Sophie’s anxieties around being discovered & raises stakes within the plot.
(Also it might be a nice touch that at the end of the season, Nadia is the one who becomes Sophie's lady's maid)
Idea 3: Mrs Wilson
With Violet’s misgivings about Sophie’s identity, Mrs Wilson (as head of the servants and Violet’s confidante), is instructed to keep an eye on Sophie.
Gradually Mrs Wilson sees the more troubling reasons behind Sophie’s isolation, her relentless work ethic and self-sacrificing nature. Further, Mrs Wilson understands that some of Sophie’s isolation is exacerbated by the ignorant Bridgertons inviting her for tea and treating her like a friend…
And gradually, Mrs Wilson comes to care for Sophie, looks out for Sophie and starts being someone Sophie trusts.
Which makes it all the more heart-breaking when Mrs Wilson is forced to reveal her suspicions about Sophie’s relationship with Benedict…(caught in a conflict between her mistress Lady Violet and her care for Sophie).
Idea 4: John.
Or, for those who need a refresher—the footman who aided Eloise in S2. (I think he's called John?)
I agree with others that these two should stay friends. And with Eloise’s storyline being about her starting to publish her work, he is a perfect person to aid her on further escapades. And in Season 4 he is joined by someone else—Eloise’s lady’s maid—Sophie.
So, due to Eloise, the pair are thrust together as unlikely conspirators which develops into a real friendship. (In a post about the Eloise storyline I will touch upon why/how Sophie is involved in this.)
However this could serve another purpose for Benophie. I'll give you a clue...
Tumblr media
That’s right…*sighs* we get Jealous Benedict.
(Personally, I’m not a fan about this trope due to feeling discomfort about men’s possessiveness over women, but I know others like it. More importantly it could aid Benedict’s character development).
Benedict hears about Sophie and John’s friendship—whether from an off-comment from Eloise or seeing them together. Filled with jealousy that this man is allowed to be so close to Sophie in the open while Benedict has to do so in the shadows, he makes a snide comment to Sophie—“I’ve heard you’ve been having fun” or along those lines. Sophie cuts him down, rightly pointing out that he has no right to control her relationships, especially as John is her only friend in the servant quarters.
Benedict would be annoyed but ultimately comes to understand how unfair he has been treating Sophie. Sophie is right—Benedict has no claim over Sophie, and she is as entitled as he is  to find someone else. It highlights his hypocrisy, for as a mistress Sophie would watch other women throwing themselves at Benedict while she is locked away as a dirty secret.
Yet another revelation that helps Benedict understand that if he wants Sophie, he must do more than make her his mistress. And perhaps it’s also acts as a little nudge from cupid about his true feelings…
SUMMARY
The show could introduce a queen Bee character like Helene who whips up hostility against Sophie leading to a climax when Helene finds out Sophie is to become Francesca’s lady’s maid. Consequently= further incentive for Sophie to leave the Bridgertons as she does in the book.
The show could include a character who has recently suffered abuse from Araminta. This would pull Araminta to the foreground of the narrative, increase stakes and give the opportunity for Whistledown to expose Araminta as she does in the book—a plot point that enables Sophie to be highlighted in Whistledown upon her arrest and for Araminta’s popularity/credibility to plunge.
With Eloise’s storyline Sophie would be friends with John the footman who could help Benedict realise/understand the Benophie situation.
Therefore, while treated with hostility and suspicion at first, Sophies general good nature wins the general servants over. However, Queen Bee Helene whips up animosity towards and reduced support for, Sophie. Therefore, Sophie is quite isolated among the staff and even with John and Nadia friendship later on. All this setting up for Sophie to leave the Bridgertons.
(And yes, it also causes drama in true Shonda fashion  😉)

Cassandra Cutscene: From The Ashes
I Should Have Known
Cassandra Masterpost Related Quest: Here Lies the Abyss
The PC approaches Cassandra at Skyhold.
Cassandra: Have you met this “friend” of Varric’s, Inquisitor?
PC: Not yet, no.
Cassandra: It had better not be who I think it is. I will wring that little bastard’s neck.
PC: Why? Who do you think it is?
Cassandra: Someone Varric claimed he could not contact. Someone the Inquisition—indeed, all of Thedas—desperately needed. I’ll reserve judgment until I know for certain. No need to have that rogue screaming “persecution” yet again.
After the PC meets Hawke, they come upon Cassandra chasing Varric around a table in the upper floor of the armory.
Cassandra: You knew where Hawke was all along!
Varric: You’re damned right I did!
Cassandra: You conniving little shit!
Cassandra swings at him but he ducks out of the way and runs to the other side of the table.
Varric: You kidnapped me! You interrogated me! What did you expect?
Dialogue options:
General: [Intervene.] [1] + Varric approves
General: [Stay out of it.] [2] - Varric disapproves
1 - General: [Intervene.] PC: Hey! Enough! Cassandra: You’re taking his side? PC: I said enough! [3]
2 - General: [Stay out of it.] The PC crosses their arms and shakes their head. They remain silent. Cassandra: I expected you to tell the truth! I told you what was at stake! Varric: So I’d just hand [them] over on your say so? “It’s okay, Hawke! This zealot isn’t crazy, I promise!” Cassandra: (Cry of rage.) Cassandra flips the table, and Varric runs to the PC. Varric: Look at her! She’s finally lost it!
Dialogue options:
General: Stop this fighting! - Cassandra slightly disapproves PC: All right! You’ve both made your point. [3]
General: This is funny. - Cassandra disapproves PC: (Chuckles.) This would be funny if it wasn’t also kind of sad. [3]
General: Leave me out of this. + Cassandra slightly approves - Varric slightly disapproves The PC steps back and shakes their head. [3]
3 - Scene continues.
Cassandra: We needed someone to lead this Inquisition.
Cassandra (HoF survived DA:O): First, Leliana and I searched for the Hero of Ferelden, but [they] had vanished. Then we looked for Hawke, but [they were] gone, too. We thought it all connected, but no. It was just you. You kept [them] from us.
Cassandra (HoF died in DA:O, Hawke sided mages): Hawke was our only hope. [They were] the Champion of Kirkwall. The mages respected [them].
Cassandra (HoF died in DA:O, Hawke sided templars): Hawke was our only hope. [They were] the [Vicount/Vicountess] of Kirkwall. [They] commanded respect.
Varric gestures at the PC.
Varric: The Inquisition has a leader.
Cassandra: Hawke would have been at the Conclave! If anyone could have saved Most Holy…
Dialogue options:
General: Cassandra, back off! [4] - Cassandra disapproves
General: Varric’s not at fault. [5] + Varric approves
General: What’s done is done. [6]
General: Varric, you bastard. [7] - Varric greatly disapproves
4 - General: Cassandra, back off! PC: You’ve made your point! [8]
5 - General: Varric’s not at fault. PC: Varric’s not responsible for what happened at the Conclave. [8]
6 - General: What’s done is done. PC: You can’t change the past, Cassandra. Cassandra: So I must accept… what? That the Maker wanted all this to happen? That He, that He… [8]
7 - General: Varric, you bastard. PC: You did that out of spite? [8]
8 - Scene continues.
Varric (friends with Hawke): I was protecting my friend! Varric (not friends with Hawke): What do you want from me?
Cassandra: Varric is a liar, Inquisitor. A snake. Even after the Conclave, when we needed Hawke most, Varric kept [them] secret.
Varric: [They’re] with us now. We’re on the same side!
Cassandra: We all know who’s side you’re on, Varric. It will never be the Inquisition’s.
Dialogue options:
General: We need to work together. [9] + Varric Slightly Approves
General: That’s unfair, Cassandra. [10] + Varric approves - Cassandra disapproves
General: Varric’s earned his place. [11] + Varric approves - Cassandra disapproves
General: I’m well aware. [12] + Cassandra approves -  Varric disapproves
9 - General: We need to work together. PC: Attacking him now won’t help us, Cassandra. Varric: Exactly! PC: And you better not be keeping anything else from us. Varric: (Sighs.) I understand. [13]
10 - General: That’s unfair, Cassandra. PC: That’s unworthy of you. [13]
11 - General: Varric’s earned his place. PC: Varric’s earned his right to be here, Cassandra. Varric: Thank you. [13]
12 - General: I’m well aware. PC: You don’t need to tell me that. Varric: Oh, like I have no reasons to help the Inquisitor finish this? PC: For the moment. Varric: Fine. For the moment, I’d like to do what I can. [13]
13 - Scene continues.
Cassandra (med/high approval): He did bring Hawke. Late, perhaps, but Hawke is with us. As are you.
Cassandra (low/neutral approval): I must not think of what could have been. We have so much at stake. Go, Varric. Just… go.
Varric goes to leave, but pauses at the top of the stairs.
Varric: You know what I think? If Hawke had been at the temple, [they’d] be dead, too. You people have done enough to [them].
Varric leaves.
Cassandra: I… believed him. He spun his story for me, and I swallowed it. If I’d just explained what was at stake… If I’d just made him understand…
Cassandra sits.
Cassandra: But I didn’t, did I? I didn’t explain why we needed Hawke. I am such a fool.
14 - Dialogue options:
Investigate: What if it had been different? (selecting this will remove the flirt option) [15] + Cassandra slightly approves
General: Don’t blame yourself. [16] + Cassandra approves
General: We’re all fools, Cassandra. [17] + Cassandra approves
General: We need to do better. [18]
Flirt: I still like you. [19]
15 - Investigate: What if it had been different? PC: What if you hadn’t believed him, and you tracked Hawke down? Cassandra: Honestly, Hawke might not even have agreed to become Inquisitor. Cassandra (Hawke sided mages): [They] supported the mage rebellion, after all. [They] wouldn’t have trusted me for a second. Cassandra (Hawke sided templars): [They] supported the templars in Kirkwall, but [they] had so many enemies. I could have been one of them. Cassandra: But this isn’t about Hawke, or even Varric. Not truly. I should have been more careful. I should have been smarter.   I don’t deserve to be here. [Back to 14]
16 - General: Don’t blame yourself. PC: You’re too hard on yourself, Cassandra. Cassandra: Not hard enough, I think. PC: You can’t believe that. [20]
17 - General: We’re all fools, Cassandra. PC: Have you looked at our Inquisition, Cassandra? We’re all fools, here. Cassandra: (Choked laughter.) Is that supposed to make me feel better? PC: More at home, maybe. [20]
18 - General: We need to do better. PC: We can’t afford any more mistakes. Cassandra: You think I don’t know that? PC: I’m making sure. [20]
19 - Flirt: I still like you. PC: Good thing I still like you. Cassandra: I’m serious! PC: You think I’m not? [20]
20 - Scene continues.
Cassandra: (Breathes deeply.) I want you to know, I have no regrets.
Cassandra (HoF is alive): Maybe if we’d found Hawke or the Hero of Ferelden, the Maker wouldn’t have needed to send you. But He did. Cassandra (HoF is not alive): Maybe if we’d found Hawke, the Maker wouldn’t have needed to send you. But He did.
Cassandra (med/high approval, have flirted): I don’t know how it will end, but I would have it no other way. Cassandra (med/high approval): I don’t know what’s to come, but… you’re more than I could have hoped for. Cassandra (low/neutral approval): You’re… not what I’d pictured. But if I’ve learned anything, it’s that I know less than nothing.
Scene ends.

What if LW "exposes" Kathony right BEFORE his speculated engagement to Edwina
Not really a spoiler but a speculation.
I saw a theory somewhere that Anthony and the Sharma's are with the Queen just before Anthony asks for Edwina's hand BUT the latest Whistledown arrives...
And what if the article is more on the lines of:
Dearest Reader,
I may not be mistaken about a lot of things but this is one fault I will gladly admit to.
As the ton is aware a one Vicount Bridgerton has been courting a Miss Sharma, and we have all assumed this season's diamond, Miss Edwina Sharma, was the recipient of his affections. But it has come to my attention, that it was in fact her sister all along.
You have read that correctly dear reader, it is Miss Kathani Sharma who has caught the attention of Lord Bridgerton. And to be honest dear reader, I am not suprised in the least for now recollecting on the memories of the season it is adamantly obvious the chemistry shared between the two.
When Lord Bridgerton would be with the Sharma sisters it was always Kathani he gravitated towards whether in sport or in jest. A love match indeed. And I suspect a proposal is not far behind.
For now dear readers I for one am looking forward to what the future has in store for the Lord Anthony Bridgerton and Miss Kathani Sharma.
...
After reading the latest Whistledown the Queen slowly looks at her company and asks "Well is this true?" And Edwina being the most clever and has been aware of the connection between her sister and Anthony, quickly states, "It is your majesty, though a proposal has not been presented as of yet I believe." A silent beat passes as the Queen replies "Well then I must say I should not be too suprised at all. You have my approval" (or something like that).
But damn imagine the whole ton congratulating them on their engagement but the two are still denying their feelings for one another thinking this is a marriage of convenience but the whole ton sees the chemistry (essentially the everyone knows but them trope)....
Might be a little too Saphne but I really wanted to make sense of all these leaks AND find a way where the Sharmas aren't scandalized (like the speculation of a bride switch at the altar that has been going around which I DON'T necessarily like or believe) and shows Edwina's own agency.
EDIT: To include Kate's birthname
