‘oh, I hope we keep talking all night. I will braid your hair, and we can laugh over our suitors.’ for sarang
circe  -  madeline miller  sentence starters | closed @astremourante
---
Sarang starts with the last suggestion: she laughs, perfect like designed for a better script than the one her life unfolded by. Lifts her chin slightly, throws her head back just a tad, so that her hair moves, just a tad, to expose a bit more of her throat, of her jaw, to appear vulnerable when every nerve in her body is always ready to take any purposefully disadvantaged position to her advantage.
Oh, how she adores the little weapon at her side.
The power dynamic between them is an interesting one. Sarang tends to interact with Amelia in ways unlike any other behavioral patterns she's designed across the centuries. She oscillates between treating her like a target and like an equal, like someone who'll never know and someone who is in the know.
It's as though something within her can't quite settle on whether she wants this to be a game or... the end of one.
So, she refuses to stop using her tools, lest putting her weapons down would mean surrendering to Amelia's. Amelia, who keeps pace in a way that makes who's leading the dance a little more difficult to discern on Sarang's very best days. Who regards her like a fine prize, a beautiful jewel, but with a glint in her eyes that insinuates she knows just how jagged a diamond can be if you touch it from the wrong end.
Dangerous, that's what Amelia is.
That's what the suggestion is.
Still, Sarang laughs and leans in anyway. Her hand floats onto Amelia's thigh oh so very casually, lithe fingertips gracing along the fabric, a meaningless, short line with little to no pressure, hardly a promise, even less of a threat, more of an idea.
Tumblr media
"Ooh, what a roundabout way of saying you can't get enough of my company, hm~? No need to mention any suitors, dearest, there's none out there I'd even care to acknowledge when you're nearby~"

   Huntress,
2024, February 14th. Unsent letter to Sarang.
I walked by the edge of the mortal and immortal realms. Quests, obsessions, delusions, that, for as long as my endless days have been haunting me, have known no salvation, no redemption. To perish. All I ever wished for was to be buried to the ground. For the grand, violent, merciless death of Thanathos and Moros to turn me into ashes. It all changed, when you found me again.
Tumblr media
The sound of your arrows rattling against the cold of my blade echoes in the core of the night, a vibration in the crystal of my bones, the awakening of a passion that burnt inside me through the centuries. Do I renounce, surrender to what I have been chasing for 600 years : the wish to never feel alive. You make me feel alive. Alive, when the black blood of my iron veins tremble to the sound of your velvet voice, to the warmth of your core, to the darkness of your eye. I do not wish to break your heart, Adored, yet I am aware these irrational desires of mine, the prayers for my own end - I aware of the doubts and the trouble is rises within you. They follows us, the shadows of my own madnesses, they're running aft'er Us. I myself broke my own heart, Beloved, realizing I never learned how to live outside of the idea that death would be better than any of this.
Tumblr media
I am scared. I must admit. Scared to accept this immortality and acknowledge that I became this monstrosity my own blood made of me. Have my crusade been in vain? Have the lives I took, the generations of underworld creatures I exterminated... was all this loss in vain? I tainted the colors of my soul, sold it to the depths of hell, for a mortality that will never be mine? I attempted to grieve, for many years, to grieve this dream of lying still, lifeless. And then I see you, and this pain I have been holding onto, it vanishes. How selfish can I remain, if I deny this second chance the Olympians have given me, the chance of sharing the rest of this immortality with You.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Will you keep me in your soul?
Along with the rivers of guts and blood that have washed over my martial hands and my serpentine coils?
Will you hold my wrath in the palms of your tender hands? Will you treat oh so gently the madness that poison my viscera?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was a coward, running away after the Grand War in the 18th century. I was a coward, disappearing from your sight after our truce in the 19th century, I was a coward, escaping after reuniting with you in San Francisco in the 20th century. A coward : I do not wish to be one any longer. In the nights I must suffer from your absence, I remember the tips of your fingers against the timidity of my neck and I pray, to my Mother Hecate, to forgive me and I beg, for all my punishments to crease, and I beg, for You.
Tumblr media
Will you spend another eternity with me?

✨ hi, friends! ✨ with next gen s2p3 dropping, i would absolutely love to plot with more people involved in the show! 🥰 so, if your muse is involved in next gen s2 and could use some help from sarang, or would love to thread with he and i for any reason, let me know by liking this post and i'll message you asap! i'll also be reaching out to the individuals in his team privately to kickstart conversations! below the cut is a quick rundown of some of the things he excels at/how he could help your muse, as well as some other general ideas for threads! 🥳
1.
sarang's biggest assets are visual appeal, stage presence, charisma, and general performance skills. these typically manifest in a mastery of facial expressions, adding stylistic touches to performances, the ability to command attention, fearlessness of the center role, and overall watchability. he's not the best dancer, but this skill of his has improved over time, but he cannot offer much assistance when it comes to vocal work and rapping. he can't sing or rap, y'all. don't even ask. though, if your muse needs to work on stage presence and capturing the vibe of a song, etc., he's your guy! 🥰
primarily though, he's at next gen to boost everyone up and be their biggest supporter. he succeeded in next gen by remembering to have fun and infusing that into everything he did, and he's perfect to talk to if you need a hug or a pick-me-up!
2.
as far as threads are concerned, here's some ideas:
your muse comes across as cold, stoic, and has blank expressions. let sarang teach them how to possess more warmth, even if it's fabricated.
is your muse having a hard time in the competition? do they need a therapy session or pep talk? come to sarang! he always knows just what to say to make a person smile and feel good about themselves. he'll wrap you up in good vibes!
sarang loves downtime away from practice, and he'd be a coach that wouldn't shy away from doing a leisurely activity with someone to take a break from all the goings-on. after all, breaks are important to success! he can help your muse with their fashion aesthetic; they can grab smoothies or lattes; he can teach them how to take good selfies and edit them to perfection; etc. etc. etc.!
is your muse a "fan" of his? do they hate him and think he didn't deserve to win the first season? maybe they can have a run-in on the show and we can see where things go!

[TRANS] 230618 YoonA – Allure Korea July 2023 Interview
Tumblr media
We've met many times, but it's the first time we've met at a hotel, and it's also the first time we've met in a couple pictorial. I really like it because it's Allure. I like all the work with Allure. My Instagram profile photo is still the top gown photo I took last year, but I haven't changed it for over a year. So I'm looking forward to it again today. This pictorial is very important to us.
Haha, Junho said the same thing earlier. We hardly did promotional activities like variety shows. It's a very important promotional activity.(laughs)
The drama will start airing in 10 days’ time. What is the wish of the two actors who are serious about promoting? If you watch the first episode, until the next episode... (laughs) If you watch the first episode, we've worked hard so that you can watch it, and the production team is probably working hard as well. What kind of reaction do you want to see on that important first broadcast? “It's so much fun," "I wanted to see this," and "I've been waiting for this." I guess reactions like these would make me the happiest. If I am greedier, I hope you like the characters of Gu Won and Sarang. As much as we worked hard to make it, I hope it'll be loved by everyone. In short, it's a drama that makes your heart flutter!
The last shoot for <King the Land> ended two days ago. How do you feel now?
It means so much to me. It's also the longest I've ever filmed. Before that, <Big Mouth> was the project that took the longest to shoot, but <King the Land> took almost 10 months. Since we've seen each other almost every day, at the end of the shoot, we said, "It's going to be awkward because we can't see each other anymore." I think I forgot what it's like to live without <King the Land>. I went around for 10 months to film and did overseas filming in Thailand. Hence, I am really looking forward to it.
I heard that Junho watched the edited version up to episode 4? I watched the first half a little bit too. The expression you have right now must be the look of anticipation/excited. I'm embarrassed to say that I watched what I filmed. A lot of people are saying that they're looking forward to it, but I am also very worried about meeting the anticipation. Nevertheless, I hope everyone will like it.
A Lee Junho and Lim YoonA's romantic comedy drama with hotel background as the setting. This is the theme of <King the Land>. Did you know there was a drama called "Hotelier" a long time ago? The drama where Song Yoona unnie came out as a hotelier! Gu Won is the head manager, and I'm the hotelier. We need to be loved just like <Hotelier> was loved.... Rewriting Hotel Romance!
Haha. The title of the press release comes out quickly. You are also in the hotel suite now; can you see something different when you come to the hotel now? I can see the difference. While filming, I went to the hotel to attend my friend's wedding, and I also paid attention to the food served. I think it's everything I learnt. While filming, I went to a lot of places like linen rooms and kitchens that I wouldn't have known if I were a guest, and it was new and fun.
Romantic comedy is a traditional genre. Do you usually like such genre?
I really like "About Time" for romance movies. I think it's my first time doing a trendy, authentic romantic comedy, and a bright character like this.
What does it take to be a successful romcom? If the main characters' chemistry is good and the tiki-taka is good, it's more fun to watch. The director also emphasized it. So I thought hard about the lines so that I could feel the chemistry between each line. We shared a lot of ideas, and rehearsals were really important for our shoot. The process of making it together was so much fun. We always started off with a conversation when we went to the set. I always talked with the director and Junho. "What should we do today?" "How should we do this part?" I thought like this. I said about doing this at a time like this, and Junho said the same thing. I think we had a lot of fun filming it because we all clicked.
No one is going to die this time, right? Even if it's a romance drama, someone dies all of a sudden. Hahaha! Anyone can watch our drama lightly and comfortably. In that aspect, I think it's been a long time since I've seen a romantic comedy like this, although it's a romance in this day and age.
What kind of conditions do you think are required for romance in this day and age? There should be no "sweet potato" part?  The plot pace is fast, and I think there is definitely a flow of proactive and fast development in any roles. (t/l note: sweet potato referred to a viewer’s frustration and impatience towards a situation or a person because of how they act in the show)
You have many successful works such as <EXIT>, <Confidential Assignment> and <Big Mouth>, and at this time, an actor would be extra careful in choosing their next work.. How did you feel when you chose this piece? Shouldn't we do a romantic comedy at this point? (laughs) Since <Big Mouth> was a noir, I wanted to play a bright character again. Bright, comical, and proactive in dealing with real love. While I was filming <Big Mouth>,  I had already come to a decision that I wanted to do a romance genre for my next project. I wanted to film a proper romcom one day. And this time round, I got a chance to do it.
Your role is Smile Queen. Did you laugh a lot when you were acting? To the point where my jaw hurts. Yes, I laughed at everything that I could laugh about that. I think my energy got better.
What if there's a man like Gu Won in real life? A man like Gu Won? The Gu Won that I watched while acting is a man who makes me want to hug him a lot. It's not like it’s sad, and it's not a protective instinct either, but I feel like I want to be by his side because he is so thoroughly alone. He wasn’t originally that kind of person, but it is like he is trying to cut himself off from everyone in the world and be alone. Then, Gu Won meets Sarang, laughs, mingles with people, and goes straight towards Sarang. He's cute when he does that. He has a puppy-like face. And he only displays this side to Sarang.
Whether it's a man or a woman, there's no way to resist if they look cute. That's it! Everyone says that Junho is so cute when the teaser is released. Gu Won is a really cool guy and has a puppy-like side that will charm everyone's heart.
What do you think if there is a woman named Cheon Sarang is in reality? Do you think you can be best friends with her? Haha, I think it'll be fun and pleasant even if she is not my best friend. We can play well together, and she also has her crazy side.
Does Yoona have that side, too? It feels oddly comfortable. I guess I have something like that in me too.
Both YoonA and Junho, the main actors, have something in common: Both of you have built good careers in performing on stage and acting. Because of that, I think there will be a bond of empathy/sympathy. We've never worked together before. This is the first time, and we had similar attitudes toward this work. Love for the work, and the desire to complete it together. We were able to share our opinions comfortably on the filming set and help each other to focus on acting. Therefore, along with Junho and the director, we said words like “thank you” to one another other a lot. I want to execute this part like this, but if the other actor don't agree, it might not be possible to express it, but the director, Junho, and I, we were always in sync and get along very well.
What about Junho as your fellow actor? He's very detailed and very focused. Just like how Gu Won and Sarang have different sides, Junho has sides that I don't have, so it was supplemented well on the set. We thought over the script together and there are moments I relied on him a lot, and he also has a diversity in terms of expressions. If you look at him on the monitor, he is so charming that it dominates the screen. And he speaks very logically. It is to the point that I admire him, I wouldn't have known these sides of him if I didn’t get to work closely with him.
Aren't you both friends of the same age who were born in 1990? He is an oppa. (Laughs). Junho is an early 1990-er. In my group, Sooyoung unnie is an early 1990-er. I'm kept the order well.
The main characters' names are "Gu Won (Salvation) and Sarang (Love)". YoonA, what do you want more in your life? I chose love. Since you can do salvation with love.

CONGRATULATIONS 🥳 to all that received contract offers/got top 3 !! it’s weird to think it’s finally all over. next gen’s been utterly all-consuming these past few months (as I’m sure many of you can relate), so it’s a little bittersweet, now that it’s come to an end. a few people have already said this, but i too was one of those ones who let everything that wasn’t next gen fall by the wayside... so i’m going to need new threads! i’ll follow this post up with a tracker, just so people know for sure which i’m dropping, and which i’m not. but if you’d like to plot anyway, regardless of current/former threads, like this post and i’ll message you!
now, on to the important stuff: jun’s reaction to the results, and the aftermath for him.
jun’s feelings about the results were very mixed. ever since he ranked 1st that ONE TIME he craved to get back there, so not even finishing in the top 3 was a bit of a blow to his self-esteem. HOWEVER, the second he heard he came 4th he pretty much forgot he was disappointed, especially when he got an offer from lime. this shocked him a lot since he was only just rejected from lime at the beginning of the year, but he likely would have chosen lime had he come in the top 3 anyway, so alls well that ends well. apart from feelings regarding his own success, he was both shocked, and pleased to the point of tearing up a little when sarang got 1st place, ren (his son) got 3rd, and noel also got an offer from lime. it’s funny to him that they began the show with an argument and jun not approving of how noel works, only to end up together. he’s determined to make it all the way together now 🥺
i’ll definitely be writing a solo about the finale, jun’s feelings, him signing the contract with lime and him navigating real life (figuring out what to do about school and telling his parents), which will (hopefully) be up soon!

the lover.  love has brought you to this place, and it will not let you leave. fear clutches you, constricts you, and it will have you killed– and yet, it is still no match for the bounty of your heart. you will try as hard as you can to protect the object of your affections. evil is nothing in the face of your warmth. even if you are successful in protecting your lover, that does not guarantee your own survival. your heart has doomed you, but what greater death is there than dying for love?

Super excited for our new release – Nithya Ranjana! A typeface based on the calligraphic style of Ranjana script from Nepal. Sponsored by Murali K. Prahalad, Ph.D. Designed by Tathagata Biswas and Noopur Datye (Ek Type) with support from Ananda K. Maharjan (Callijatra)
Nithya Ranjana is a typeface based on the calligraphic Ranjana script practiced in Nepal. Ranjana originated sometime between the 8-11th centuries and is used to write Sanskrit and Nepal Bhasa. It was mainly used for writing Buddhist and Hindu texts in South Asia and is also used for cultural contexts by the Newar people of the Kathmandu valley in Nepal. It has a rich legacy in manuscript calligraphy, stone inscriptions, wood engravings and paintings, but it has had limited digital representation due to its complexity and lack of Unicode support.
The challenge in creating the Nithya Ranjana font was to strike a balance between Ranjana's heritage and contemporary requirements. Apart from vowels, consonants, numerals and punctuation marks, Nithya Ranjana supports 750+ unique conjuncts used in Nepal Bhasa, Sanskrit and Pali. It includes an additional 500+ character-specific matra forms and matra-specific character forms to correctly and elegantly represent its many unique combinations. It has four stylistic sets, one each for alternate conjuncts and above base matras, and two for 40 Kutakshar forms (monogram-style word marks) making it ideal for historical and contemporary usage.
The Ranjana script does not have Unicode support to date. Hence, this typeface is currently available in 2 versions – Nithya Ranjana DU (based on Devanagari Unicode) and Nithya Ranjana NU (based on Newa Unicode). We hope to update it to Ranjana Unicode as and when the proposal for Ranjana Unicode is accepted.
This project was initiated and sponsored by Murali K. Prahalad, Ph.D. His interest in helping create a modern font for Ranjana is deeply linked to his passion for preserving the world’s Sanskrit heritage for future generations by ensuring the successful transition of Sanskrit into the digital world. He has a keen interest in scripts that facilitated the spread of Sanskrit literature and knowledge across Asia. This font is named after his eldest daughter Nithya, for whose generation he hopes to preserve this tradition.
Nithya Ranjana is designed, engineered and maintained by Ek Type, India with support from Callijatra, Nepal. Key contributors of this project are Tathagata Biswas (Type Design), Noopur Datye (Type Design), Ananda K. Maharjan (Script Expert) and Sarang Kulkarni (Project Management).

@rippleofwords | “Isn't it a shame that it ended like that?” ( to sarang who perhaps approached him regarding his book, and the stories he wrote [with assumptions] to what happened bet. her and calista? Lmk if this works & I hope this is okay!)miley cyrus lyrics ( endless summer vacation edition )
---
That was not the tone she was looking for. To be entirely fair, she had no true idea what she was looking for. Confirmation? Denial? Did she want truths she could not make her peace with denied to her, robbed out of the universe so she may continue marching through it with lighter shoulders and more reason to chase Calista's shadow as it retreats deeper and deeper into a corner of existence equaled to the state of mind Sarang is allowing her to drag her into, dip into, like a Christian baptismal?
Or does she want things she does not truly dare to hope confirmed?
Either way, no matter which angle she analyses it from, refusing to do so altogether, entertaining the notion only every now and then like looking down at a wound because it suddenly twitched in reminder it was still bleeding, none of the desires she's not foolish enough to recognize as such are being met.
Maybe it's something about his voice, the delivery, the detachment, the absolute impossibility of his existence as Sarang has come to understand the world to work, even though she of all people should know best how much more exists out there than she's yet had to meet - but that she might, considering she has no expiration date.
She inhales deeply, exhales as controlled. She wants to clench her hands into fists, but she doesn't. She doesn't because not even Sarang herself has earned sight of that level of vulnerability. So she simply throws in another exhale, painted as a sigh, and flips her hair back, reveal her throat and feigned disinterest.
"Everyone interprets things differently," she offers after some internal debate, still unwilling to be direct as to how exactly she feels about... any and all turn of events.
She leans closer, careful to keep her hands to herself, hoping the glint in her eyes is enough to keep Hyuk-Jae's attention.
Calista wouldn't... she wouldn't leave her, right?
Does Calista love death more than she...
Does she need death more than she needs...
Her jaw clenches, her smile attempts to remain friendly and unbothered.
"How... accurate is your mind?"

OPEN EVENT: 005
MBTI: INFJ-T
introverted: (72%) this fits with sarang as she kept to herself since she was young. her parents weren't interested and her grand-parents didn't push her to interact so it was easy to slid into herself. not that sarang minded too much until she came to seoul. it felt like a different world and her personality started to develop more with the small group of friends she made. still, she opts to keep to herself as she feel she doesn't do well in social settings unless she's with a select group of people.
intuitive: (65%) it's not something she outwardly shows people but it fits her. this forms as worry most of the time, wondering what could wrong, what has already went wrong and etc but she does have a very active imagination which can be seen in her video games habits (mainly being the sims it allows a high degree of creativity and freedom) and if you talk to her, she can be fairly open-minded. it's just not a trait that would stick out to many if they've only talked to her once or twice.
feeling: (75%) she leaned more towards feeling vs thinking, which is a slight surprise. sarang spends a good chuck of time in her own head. while she does value emotional expression, more so from other people than herself. unless it's a topic she enjoys or a good friend, she can come off very, if not a stuttering mess. generally though, she'd stick to the idea that she was inside of her mind more than working through her feelings.
judging (92%) while it's sounds off-putting, the description fits sarang too a t. she's never been a 'go with the flow' type of person. sure, there can be some room for flexibility (stress on some) but she enjoys planning her life and schedule as much as she is able. it gives her a source of security and stability. this can come off as rigid or unfun and sarang would agree with that. even with her close friends, she's never had a cut loose moment and growing up, she was never a wild-child or had a rebellious phase. sarang prefers things to be nice, neat, tidy and structured.
turbulent: (82%) this also fits in with her character. being a perfectionist, eager to prove and improve, etc. all of these are traits that developed in her early childhood and has stuck with her. though, being success-driven was something that did come out more in her high-school years due to the change in environment. there is always the need to prove herself in someway to her parents or for them to take notice. and to also be a person her aunt and family could be proud of. the biggest factor of this identity would be the self-conscious, it might be way she has as much fun preforming as she can (another reason why focused on acting) because sarang is hyper aware of herself and how she might come off to others, thus, she sometimes doesn't want to be noticed at all.
overall: including the strength and weakness, this managed to capture sarang fairly well. especially on the strengths and weakness. the ones that stood out as far as strengths were principled, creative and altruistic as ways to describe her. as far as weakness it would have to be prone to burnout, sensitive to criticism and perfectionistic.
enneagram: the achiever
the achiever captures sarang the most. there is a an underlying fear of being worthless that can cause her to push herself more than what's needed at times. while also being overly concerned with how people view her even if she doesn't outwardly express it. while i wouldn't say she doesn't have a strong desire to distinguish herself from others, she does want to be admired on some level.
daemon: bat
her daemon result was a bat and it was unexpected. with the description given, it does make more sense. the biggest likeness would be enjoying being large groups but working independently at the same time. she does like when the world is engaged around her even if she isn't keen on engaging.

— NOW PLAYING: NEXT GEN EPISODE 5
the episode opens with a long pan of the goyang sports complex and a few quick shots of the various participants as they prepare for a day of fun and games. the teams are introduced to the audience one member at a time, first with TEAM A, each member receiving a solo zoom of their faces as they’re introduced, followed by the members of TEAM B.
“we have a competitive group of contestants,” RHEE JIAN remarks, taking up her hosting duties today dressed in a purple tracksuit that matches NEXT GEN’s branding colors rather well. whether the wardrobe choice is intentional or a coincidence is never revealed, let alone discussed on camera. “some who look very athletically talented,” the cameras focus on MOON CAMERON, SEO JUNHO, and LEE NAYOUNG in particular, “and others who… don’t seem to enjoy sports as much,” there’s a laugh in jian’s voice while this time the cameras focus on YEOM SARANG, SATO KOU, and JUNG JOOMI.
as the episode progresses, the viewer is taken through the journey of the sports day. while it’s all fun and games, points are earned by the teams as they complete each event. they remain in close standings as they enter the final game, name tag, and it’s a fierce competition that brings out the fighting spirits in many of the contestants. ultimately, TEAM A is announced the winner of the day. their prize? bragging rights, mostly, though they’re also surprised by a barbeque dinner prepared with help from the staff. TEAM B is given ramyun as a consolation prize and the winning team can choose to share their dinner with them if desired.
ultimately, the day ends as a good bonding experience between all of the contestants, even those on different teams for the day. they’ve all faced similar struggles throughout the competition and the music in the background changes to something soft and sentimental. between scenes of the contestants eating, playing, practicing, and making friends with one another, their voices are heard speaking heartfelt messages.
“i wasn’t prepared for how hard this would be, for how much i needed to put into it, and putting my everything into this has tired me out,” LEE NOEL’s voice is heard, “it’s been difficult finding energy, it feels like my days keep repeating themselves, like it’s the same every day, with a new song sometimes. “i hope that with the energy you give me i can continue practicing hard, hard so i can improve, so i can show everyone that i deserve this, so i can show myself that i deserve this.”
CHO HANEUL is heard next, his letter overlaid with clips of him and seojun, his best friend. “we’ve been through thick and thin together, and whenever i felt unsure, i knew that i could do it since you were there. thank you for being my pillar and thank you for being there and thank you for being my best friend. let’s continue to support each other always and go through the finale and come out successful.”
in perfect response, LEE SEOJUN’s letter is to haneul, and is read next: “i know you’ll do well and deserve the best no matter if you think otherwise at times. i’ll be supporting you just like i know you’ll be supporting me.”
“i know at times i can come across as cold,” PARK DOHYUN’s clips show him slowly becoming friends with the other contestants on the show as his voice his heard over the images. “i don’t speak a lot and maybe it’s hard to befriend me, but they have all included me in their own ways and I can’t be more thankful for that.” it’s heartwarming to see a shy, almost stand-offish contestant become so beloved by his teammates.
it may be unexpected given her performance on the program so far but a vulnerable side of LEE NAYOUNG is shown on screen as she also reads her letter aloud. “i thought, after my last contract was terminated, that my life was over,” she confesses aloud, “it felt like coming back to what…i was supposed to be doing? i feel like i’m learning so much. i feel like i’m returning to my old self again, but maybe better.”
“for as long as i’ve been alive, you’ve been there to hold my hand whenever i was in need of support.” YEOM SARANG speaks next, “i know it hasn’t always been easy for you, and for us, but there’s nothing i want more than to help you carry the weight you’ve been sustaining all alone; to support you like you always support me.” he doesn’t cry, but the emotion in his voice is tangible even without the viewer seeing his face as he reads, just the clips of him working hard in practice and progressing through the show.
“it’s been hard, hasn’t it?” says MOON JINYOUNG, “not just for me, but you too. you’ve had to work hard too. harder than me, maybe. at least i’ve been chasing my dream. thank you for letting me do this. i’m afraid that when i blink i’ll wake up and it will have never happened. i’ve met so many of my heroes and so many new friends. i’ve learned so much. i don’t think i could ever regret this, even though it hasn’t always been easy.” there’s the vague sense that he might be holding back, that he’s not truly comfortable expressing deep feelings publicly, but the sentiment comes across nonetheless.
“i dedicate this letter to my sister seoyoon who’s back home in australia,” says MIN HYEJIN, a clip of her misty-eyed as she reads her letter aloud briefly appearing on screen before that too is taken over by clips of her progress throughout the show. “i miss you so much and wish i had the chance to come see you. it’s been too long. i love you unnie! thank you again for always being there to show me support no matter what i tried to do. i wouldn’t be here trying to pursue my dream again without you.”
ZHOU RENYI clears his throat once before his voice takes over. “don’t laugh, ok?” he requests before continuing, “somehow i’ve made it this far. sometimes i still don’t really understand where i am, or how i got here. i never thought i’d be sitting here, doing anything like this. i guess what i really have to say is thank you for supporting me. i’m trying my best here, and i don’t know if anything is going to come of it, but you’re like a brother to me, and honestly, i probably wouldn’t be here, on this planet still, without you.”
“i’m sure you’re surprised you made it this far, right?” SEO JUNHO speaks next, “we both know how much more room there is to grow. but i believe in you. i believe you can do it this time. remember what we always say? never give up, never back down. make sure people always remember seo junho.”
MOON SAEA speaks next, the compilation emphasizing clips of her with her brother, cameron, despite her letter being written to someone else. “i want you to know that i’m here now. i’ve succeeded in making it this far on next gen.” there’s a defiance to her words that contrasts the sappiness of some of the previous letters. “i’ll make you believe that i can make it as a dancer, and as a performer again.”
“like most families, we don’t always agree the same or have the same opinions,” MOON CAMERON naturally is heard next, the compilation naturally flowing to focus on him more than his sister. “i can’t thank my parents without thanking my sister as well. I am lucky to have her by my side. she is a pillar for me and keeps me going because I would never want to disappoint her or mom and dad. if i want the best for them, i have to also try my hardest.”
finally, JUNG JOOMI reads his letter to himself. “you’ve come a long way in a few months. you went from not caring what happened to wanting to make the people that believed in you proud, determined to do your very best. you sang notes you didn’t know you could. people like you. most days that’s still hard to believe, but some days it’s not, and there are a lot more of those days now than there were before.” the young man’s shuddering breath and the way he holds back his tears is heard as the scene changes to joomi in the interview room, reading his letter. it’s the final clip of this compilation. “thank you for not giving up.”
the screen fades to black and a moment of silence is left for the viewer to absorb and process the emotions of all of the contestants who shared their heartfelt messages. a short message fades into view: thank you to you, the viewer, for supporting all of the contestants in their journey.
finally, the scene changes back to jian on the next gen stage. “the next episode will be our finale,” she announces, presumably in front of all of the contestants remaining. “you’ll be performing one of three original songs chosen for you by our viewers. let’s reveal the teams now.”
member by member, the three teams are revealed to the viewer with a short clip of the demo tracks to remind everyone what they voted on.
“this is your last shot at impressing not just the judges, but also the audience who will be voting for you and helping to decide the winners,” jian cautious the contestants, “work hard and put on your best possible performance. the contestants who end up in the top three positions based on a combination of audience votes and judges’ evaluations will be offered a trainee contract to any company they choose.”
“that’s not to say that no one else will be offered a contract either,” she advises them, “the runner-ups will be offered contracts to one of the three companies. so everyone, do your best! we look forward to seeing you on stage!”
with that, my turn begins playing and the episode comes to a close.

COOL WITH YOU 염사랑 → 샹샤올리 2023년 10월 / 서울
this has been a thing for them for quite sometime now, and every time he's here—his head on xiaoli's chest, their legs entangled, bodies draped in sheets that accentuate their shapes beautifully—sarang feels safe. it's something he can't really explain. this bed-frame, these pillows, and xiaoli himself have become somewhat of a diary to him. he's not only been a great source of pleasure for him. over time, he's grown into more than that.
nowadays, sarang views him as a close friend; a confidant. for some reason, it's so easy to tell xiaoli his thoughts, and secrets. his solidity, and even his sensitivity, allow sarang to discuss topics that he doesn't often voice to others; considerations he has, but chooses to fester on instead of share. here, he allows himself to explore them, and for that, he's grateful.
his and xiaoli's relationship has grown rather strong, but still maintains its playful roots, which sarang deeply appreciates. it only goes to prove to him that, friends can become physically intimate with one another without foundation breaking their foundation. maybe some people have a harder time with that than they do, but they at least show that it's possible, that there are success stories out there.
after roughly seven hours wrapped up in xiaoli, sarang's lashes bat open; the sunlight streaming in from the windows drenching the scene in delicate morning light. thankfully, it's his day off from training, so he doesn't have to worry about rising anytime soon. for now, he rolls on-top of the man beside him; making a seat out of his lap. leaning forward, he stamps a kiss on xiaoli's forehead.
"hey..." he whispers softly, smiling. "are you awake?"
