I love the fact that prior to in-game story of DELTARUNE Chapter 2 on DELTARUNE website, Noelle must be the one and only Lightner individual who would open spam e-mails in the junk folder of her computer (and later on, laptop) and gave care and attention to them; also minding to avoid links that would send her to anything explicit, scammy, and shady. Honestly, it’s a reason for her game and devices she uses to crash very frequently.

(me: reminisces how my Toshiba laptop went haywire full of malware and it crashed in 2004…wondered if it was Spamton’s doing. RIP that laptop. I always used MS paint to draw zodiacs and made it my Desktop wallpapers when I was a lot younger. And I had really cool rainforest pics and videos I did when I was at Costa Rica. X3)

Grateful and pleased a Lightner like her checks the spam folder of e-mails, Spamton, right before his Big Shot prime time, sent a Pipis (blue circle…egg…?). He valued her so much. She was his first Lightner he actually respected and I had a feeling he still (kind of) did in-game storyline (applies to both routes of gameplay).

Why did Spamton care for a Lightner deer highly as much as Queen did is beyond me; but I will say the theme of Light with Dark helping alongside each other harmoniously stays. He’s like Noelle’s needed lost uncle while Queen is Noelle’s needed lost auntie in some sort of sense.

He does this multiple times, sending his pipis with an attached code for Noelle to interact and care for in Cat Petterz 2 game.

In a Q and A on Twitter, Spamton revealed and reminisced about Noelle. He even went further to not invade on the personal privacies of any of the Lightners’ e-mails and browser history. He respects the confidentiality and makes good business of it. He calls it [charity], but I personally think it was a step for Spamton specifically to find what could’ve possibly be his true and REAL friend, but from a world beyond his own.

Also, my Spamton plush came in so fast, he must be scampering on all 4s to my mailbox at 200+ mph. He arrived 4 days after its initial launch and advertisement on Fangamer during the Spamton Sweepstakes weekend event.

My very first encounter with him upon his arrival is HE WAS STUCK IN MY MAILBOX for a brief couple of minutes. His BIG head was in the way!

He has a magnetic nose. I tested the magnetic ball chain bracelet on him. He can walk his pipis with his nose and the magnetic chain now.

Lock screen is svt doing their hand thing (bc i love it so much and it's heartwarming) and my home screen is actually seungkwan (bc this wallpaper from pinterest is so aesthetic and i love purple and pastel and seungkwan so i just HAD to) but then swipe right and BOOM you're hit by a photo widget full of some of my fave dino and svt pics

I've been in a broadway kick lately (I've been into musicals long before I've been into svt and listening to show tunes always gives me the comfort of coming home) + SMASH is such an underrated musical tv series, like everyone's talking about glee this glee that when we've got SMASH WITH ORIGINAL SONGS AND A LESS PROBLEMATIC STORYLINE?? pls listen to smash especially let me be your star 🥹 (and if u see smash and bombshell, they're basically the same but smash is the name of the TV series while bombshell is the name of the musical they're writing in the show)

still simming and i'm almost done furnishing addie's massive farm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i added lighting outside :) it looks great in build mode so i'm excited to see it in game when the sun goes down!

more below, with lots of indoor shots too ~

here's a couple more of the outside lighting! it's so dreamy. I love it. there are firefly spots all around the place so i'm really hoping this becomes magical at night!

onto the inside! It's a massive goddamn house it's taking forever. everybody has their own room though and there's plenty of room for activities and skills :)

anyway here's the house. the first pictures are of the living/kitchen area. this is the "modern" living area - a couple walls were torn down to make it an open floor plan as u do in old farmhouses. I'm going for heavy clutter, some old things, some new, and lots of houseplants everywhere. poppy is invisible in that plaid purple rug on the floor lol. build mode babies...

do u see Shane's hot sauce shelf? :) i still have to clutter up some shelves and the dining table and decide if I want the wood walls or not. I also wanna put family pictures up! so I'm leaving empty walls compared to other parts of the house.

Marnie's room is up next since she wanted some screentime, as u can see, her standing eerily behind the couch

Marnie is in one of the rooms with the original wallpaper. I might add a little grime to tell that story. isn't it so cute?!? i love this set so much i've been abusing it in this house - the wallpaper and paintings are from that set. She does the laundry in this house so there's a spot for her to watch her soaps while she folds clothes. her 'grandkids' make her things so she keeps them in here :) She's picking up crossstitching too.

Addie and Shane's room is a weird shape, i could not figure out the layout to this house and their room suffered for it lol. but the little hallway is a kinda walk in closet... Shane doesn't have a ton of stuff, except that one bookshelf and whatever clothes he has. One of his couches from his old apartment is in the basement. The rest is all Addie - she's a packrat, and i like her having clutter everywhere, including the walls. She has her more tame witchy things in her bedroom - tarot cards on the fireplace by her grandma's ashes, her book of shadows and mandala board on her dresser. I don't have my own posters made but let's pretend one of the ones in the corner is for nolan's band :p. Poppy is still small so her stuff is crammed in here for now, but she does have her own room. As you can see, no unsavory things in this room, don't snoop.

This is their little bathroom - the shower is to the right but u can't see. there's also a little ladder in here to the attic, which i just started furnishing 😇

The hallway on the upper floor is a little playroom area. I think it's cute :) the floral couch is from Marnie's house! In the far corner is where Jas does her homework.

this is Deli's room! a little bare on the walls so i'm working on that. but he has a pet rat ;___; and he likes voidcritters. wonder who he takes after

and here's Poppy's room - it's very small but works for a baby.

Jas' room is still in progress - I had it nice in my old save so ive got to save it from there and paste it in the next time i load the game.

Lastly... the 70s basement...

The stairwell is claustrophobia-inducing, i hope u can tell by the first pic. but u go downstairs and it's a blast from the past. lots of hand me down furniture including shane's old couch and ping pong table. this is also where i put the big kid play items that would be cute elsewhere if they didn't take so much space!! deli's dollhouse was supposed to be in his room but i could not get it to work in there :(

The last pic in that set is their brewing room. the beer machine was embarrased i came in to see him. I want it to be their pantry too - i'm hoping i can find a cc pack for basement pantries/homestead pantries. I'll even take disaster shelter pantries. the vibes need to be unhinged in here ok

I almost forgot, the never-remodelled bathroom

and lastly, surprise! i have to find another metal band that could pass as a name for a baby (non canonical ass baby. i can name u whatever i want). this was an accident lol i forgot to re-enable her birth control after she had poppy ;_; and ya i can just use master controller to zap that baby gone, but both her and shane are happy about it and she is constantly rolling 'try for baby' wants. so u know what? here's ur baby have fun.

Omg I forgot to tell you - two of my friends were on the set of The Crown (seasons 1-2) and they said the attention to details (interior design and fashion) was amazing. They even used some original wallpapers, furniture, clothes, and sometimes it took ages to find them

until he finally sees it. accidentally. like it just blinked open due to some notification. and even if it needed your face recognition for the notifications to open up, he didn’t care.

because his focus is on the wallpaper.

I tried uploading the image again but it unfortunately resulted in it being the exact same size as the one that’s already available, so I’d probably chalk up the poorer quality just to the fact that it’s an older work. Either that or Tumblr is being weird (which it almost always is, so who knows)

The good news is that I’d like to someday redraw that image, so hopefully if I do, it’ll make for a more suitable wallpaper than the current one. Sorry it didn’t work out this time, but thank you for your support regardless!

It seems that my body-shaming Nonny has lost interest in doing so and is now more interested in bonding over our shared appreciation of Tom P. While this is lovely, of course, it does make me wonder whether Nonny might have been being truthful in the Asks they sent that claimed they weren’t trying to troll me or diss Colin, but were simply trying to communicate with me.

However, they continually insisted some things that were patently untrue: Namely, that Colin was in better shape during Once and that he’s obviously “let himself go” since then.

Now, everyone who actually follows Colin know this is simply untrue. He’s far more into working out now, even has his own home gym that he was proud to show us, and we’ve all seen the increased muscle tone in his arms and chest as of late. Beyond that, it’s clear from the meager pre-Once and Once era chest views in The Clinic, The Dust Storm, and The Words that Colin’s maintained the same basic body shape/tone for most of his career - only very recently getting a bit more definition. If anything, I’d say it’s pretty clear that Colin is in the best shape of his life right now - and he looks fantastic.

So where did Nonny get this idea that he used to be more muscular?

Well, I think I’ve figured it out...

Whilst doing web searches for photos of Colin to make tablet wallpapers out of, I kept running into THESE guys:

Now, I’ve debunked all of these photos previously, but the fact still remains that a lot of people outside of Colin’s own fandom believe these photos are actually of Colin. In fact, the first one was even used by a professional journalist on an actual entertainment website to promote a ComicCon panel Colin was doing. Colin and Adam Horowitz even reblogged her tweet. Colin’s own agent put it on his fucking website. If you do a reverse image search on it, Google tells you it’s Colin. People often refuse to believe it’s not a legitimate Colin photo until you show them the original - and even then, some people have questioned which one was fake (spoiler alert: it’s the Colin one :P).

And Colin’s own fandom isn’t entirely innocent in this, either:

These shots are all manips of Colin/Killian made by fans. Now, I’m not naming/shaming anyone here - All three of these images are clearly marked with the creators’ names on the image (extra kudos for the one in the middle that even has the creator’s name OVER the image itself so it can’t be cropped/erased away by nefarious no-goodniks), were all posted to fan blogs known for creating manipulated images, and were clearly designated as fanart manips by their creators when they posted them. That’s what I consider responsible manip-making, and when it comes to protecting an actor’s image there’s really not much more fanart creators can do than exactly what each of these creators has done. The problem isn’t with their work.

The problem is that even these pics make it into the wild, get pinned and reposted by less responsible people, and eventually end up in image searches for photos of Colin (all three of these showed up in Bing searches I just did for “colin o’donoghue shirtless” and/or “colin o’donoghue chest”) - and people outside of Colin’s fandom don’t know the names of people in the fandom the way we all do. They don’t know that a certain tag on the image means “this is a manip, not actually Colin”. And dang, but some of you guys are just too damn good at this stuff, too - I mean, your stuff looks so real people don’t even question it.

So my point is... that there likely ARE some people out there who believe that Colin does/did have a Hollywood Muscle Man body. And if those people see Colin’s actual body in Sneed/TRS, they’re going to be surprised that it doesn’t meet the unrealistic expectations these fake images gave them. I’d be genuinely curious if my particular Nonny saw and/or was influenced by any of these photos - or photos like them.

In other news, one of the photos above, when clicked on in the search engine to view the full size image, spawned a literal bumper crop of nude Colin fakes in the “Others Like This” sidebar. Firstly, there are a LOT more of them than there used to be, I think, which... uh, I mean, that’s probably a good sign that he’s more popular and well-known than he was last time I, uh, happened upon an unexpected trove of fake Colin nudes (look, I don’t LOOK for this shit, it just happens, okay?!). Secondly, I still don’t understand why anyone would think Hook would top anyone on that show, let alone Charming. And thirdly, in the middle of all those fake nudes was this particular picture of ACTUAL Colin:

And I laughed for a few solid minutes, because the look on his face here, when surrounded by nothing but fake nudes of himself, was the funniest thing I’ve seen all week, at least, if not the last month or so. It’s just... such a “This is a lot to take in and I’m happy for you and I don’t want to be rude, but OH MY GOD” sort of frozen expression that seems somehow entirely appropriate for him being in the middle of a bevy of fake porn of himself. Just saying.

Since it’s Josuke’s birthday month, it only felt right to dedicate a drawing or two to him! This one’s a redraw off my current wallpaper (third pic) and it was a lot of fun to draw!! I tried a new approach to sketching and it majorly cut down the time it took to make this! Pretty sure I spent a solid 60% of the time on the background, if not more, even though the only thing I really did was trace a screencap from the show... I’ve also noticed recently that I absolutely LOVE drawing Josuke’s hair!! . Anyway, happy birthday Josuke!!

Also, I’m sad to say I don’t know the original creator of the wallpaper!! If anyone knows, please let me know so I can give due credit!

It was nice to find out that the creator of Aika Village recreated it in acnh! I revisited it + re-read the old review I had of it (it was so cringe but contained useful screenshots and info.), and mayhaps I was onto something 👁️👄👁️ here are my thoughts:

Something happened between her parents

Not sure if it was before, during, or after her birthday since they looked happy (emphasis on “looked”)

Whatever happened, Aika was negatively impacted by it

In the original/acnl Aika Village, there’s a bunch of pitfalls (I think it was near the second house?) buried as you tried to move forward. When you fall into the pitfall, your player is trapped + distress, which is probably how she felt by the situation.

Maybe her parents were getting a divorce? Someone was caught cheating?

I think cheating was most likely the cause of the split because of the room with the one male statue and the various female statues (he wasn’t just cheating with one person)

But then again I also think this room has religious implications since it reminds me of Adam and Eve + the emphasis of the apples

If it was meant to represent Adam and Eve, remember how they couldn’t discern “good” and “evil” prior to consuming the forbidden fruit? After they ate the fruit (aka “sinned”), their eyes were “opened”.

So if we apply that to Aika’s parents, maybe everything seemed like it was great between them but once someone was caught doing something wrong (I think it’s cheating but that’s just me), they realized everything wasn’t what it seemed

The original room with these exact statues in the acnl version had only one female statue though, which is why I thought it was related to religion

If it’s any of the above, she probably felt helpless and/or like she had to choose sides

OR perhaps she thought it was her fault that they were fighting? Many children blame themselves for their parents’ divorce

The hidden pairs of eyes in the room with the toys facing away from us

Her parents had high expectations of her, thus putting lots of pressure on her to excel and be “the ideal daughter”

She seems to be an only child as well, making it worse since her parents were extremely focused on her

This is also supported by the room with the piano and eggs in the acnl version

She was always being watched (I don’t think it was just by her parents either, esp since in the acnh version there’s 3 pairs of eyes instead of two like in the original)

Aika talks to her toys and/or inanimate objects

Many children do this, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she did the same

I remember reading somewhere that it is possible Aika had mental illness(es), so she imagined them talking back to her

Either way, she probably confided in them about everything since she didn’t seem like she had anyone else to talk to other than her parents

There was money buried (I didn’t indicate in the past review if it was a lot or not, and I honestly don’t remember ;-; ), so maybe her parents could’ve been arguing over that? Maybe they weren’t doing so well financially...

The family dog is dead :(

It was either an accident or someone killed it

Lots of people speculated it was Aika herself or her doll

Not sure why Aika would’ve killed it though? The only thing I can think of is the doll convinced her to do it

Or maybe the mom did it so she wouldn’t have to care for it anymore?!

I’m assuming the dad left because we don’t see much of him anymore in the rooms, so I don’t think he did it

In the acnl version, there’s a megaphone lying on the ground. When you try to use it, there is no reply

If the creator did this on purpose, I think they were trying to tell us that Aika was trying to call out for help, but no one would listen

In the acnl version (take a shot every time you read this lmao), in one of the houses, there’s a bunch of exit signs with the person running.

This could possibly mean that Aika wanted to run away from her problems

As you progress through the houses, the state of the houses worsen

Things are getting worse for Aika as time goes on

I remember reading somewhere that many believed Aika’s mom to have become an alcoholic (she could’ve used other drugs too?) + abusive towards Aika after the dad left

This is further supported by one drawing in the house with the maze in the acnl version of what appears to be Aika’s mother grabbing Aika by her hair (at the time, I innocently thought she was patting her head omg)

I can’t remember if the same applied in the acnh version, but in the acnl version, a drawing of her mom is seen everywhere

Aika really loved her mom

That, or she feared her so she made sure to not show any attitude towards her to be in her good graces

Aika may have been sexually abused

There’s the room with the thinking man statues with fishing rods

A bunch of Aikas are in what appears to be a lake

These men are probably trying to lure Aika away from her mom/problems

Another room that made me believe this was in the acnl version with an outline of a body on the bed

The room looks like that of an adult

The colors are dark and the wallpaper/flooring look shabby, which gives off the mood of the room to be bad

Or maybe the body outline was of the mom and she died???

The doll is found in this room with a cradle in front of, but there’s also a pic of Aika’s mom on the wall???

The room filled with Queen Nefertiti busts and a caged Aika + doll

These rooms are in both acnl and acnh

Aika is locked up in a cage/cell, surrounded by these statues

The bust represents feminine beauty and power. Nefertiti means “the beautiful one has come.”

I think maybe Aika had low self-esteem, or she no longer viewed herself in a good light + thought she was weak after all that she’s been through

The scratched out drawings in her room

I think Aika’s mom died OR she also abandoned Aika at some point

Aika definitely died since her little red shoes were found by the side of the beach :/

The room in the acnh version with her parents standing on one side, loaded with money, and Aika on the other side with acorns

Not sure if this room represents her and her parents before they divorced or before they had Aika???

Or if this is her parents after Aika died?

If this was before the divorce, the parents were RICH rich

The crystal hearts you get from Reese and Cyrus’ wedding event leads me to believe they were still in love with each other

Because of the acorns surrounding Aika, it made me wonder if this was her parents before they had her?

I’m most likely reaching here, but if this was after Aika committed, then maybe her parents got back together because of the money they got from the insurance company??

I’m just thinking about this one show where this one dude murdered his sibling because he had life insurance and wanted to collect the money from it...

If that was the case, maybe they made up and wanted to be together again because of the money?

These are just my opinions. What do you guys think?

The Conception and History of AtaLao

This is just a post for me to ramble on about how Ata and Lao (and Asha but he’s like 1/2 not an OC) got started as OCs and recount some of their history leading up to their roles in Under the Desert Sky. So for the one or two of you interested in reading this:

The Beginning

To talk about the start of AtaLao, I first need to talk (briefly) about Rogue One and The Lost Bladesman.

So I watched Rogue One and fell deep into Chirrut/Baze. That of course meant watching movies that Donnie Yen (DY) and Jiang Wen (JW) were in, which included The Lost Bladesman.

The Lost Bladesman was set during China’s Three Kingdoms period and starred DY as Guan Yu (GY) and JW as Cao Cao (CC). And lemme just say, in this movie (and in several other Romance of the Three Kingdoms adaptations, including at least one of the Dynasty Warriors games), CC is HELLA THIRSTY for GY. Which kicked off an interest in CC/GY and led me and two friends to evocates’ phenomenal Romance of the Three Kingdoms/The Lost Bladesman series a guide to (dis)honouring your deities which had an interesting approach to A/B/O.

Between that fic series and the many Hong Kong triad films and old “classic” HK films we watched, my friends and I ended up writing an A/B/O HK Triad AU in which CC was the head of a recently resurrected triad trying to protect/build up their home-city, while GY was one of the few good cops in a (obviously) corrupt system.

Anyways, getting to the AtaLao part...

On the left is General Zhang Liao, who acts as CC’s right-hand man in The Lost Bladesman. So naturally, he became CC’s second-in-command in our Triad AU! And look! He is, in fact, Asha! 8D Hence why I say Asha technically is and isn’t an OC LOL

As our Triad AU grew bigger, we added three “elders” to CC’s triad, people who had been important members of the triad before its collapse (due to the police) and were pulled back out of hiding when CC resurrected the triad. One of them, we decided, would be Elder (Ata) Zhang, Asha’s father. (Which was how CC also met Asha.) Elder Zhang had been The Accountant for the triad pre-collapse, knew where all the money in the triad was and went, highly trusted and held in high esteem. He was never arrested by the police, though they did pull him into interrogation once with...not great results for them. (Keeping this PG with minimal violence LOL I can talk about this another time if anyone is interested.)

I, on a whim, decided Elder Zhang’s facecast would be...

Tony Leung because it’s Tony Leung.

CC had his work cut out convincing Elder Zhang and Asha to support his bid for lead of the triad. *nods*

But what happened to Elder Zhang’s mate? Asha’s other parent? (Lao?)

(Aside: Andy Lau as his facecast because I LOVE HIM. And he and Tony Leung have SUCH AMAZING CHEMISTRY and ALL THE FODDER for me to use for inspiration, but I’ll stop myself here before I pic spam.)

WELL.

He died when Asha was about 5 or 6. He was shot and killed by the police while he and Ata were out on a date under suspicion of being a triad member. (”He has the face of a gangster,” they said.) The irony is, he is actually a normal civilian, a low-level architect, and has nothing to do with the triad other than being Ata’s husband.

Thus, by the time our AU took place, Lao hadn’t been present for...over 30 years and was only rarely referenced as a near mythical figure. (;﹏;)

So there we have the beginnings of AtaLao.

Their backstory makes me incredibly sad all the time. Especially when I think about their childhood/courtship and their dreams and plans for their future. I have lots of art drawn, content made, and thousands of words written for them so just say the word and I’ll share LOL

Proper AtaLao

What do I mean by ‘proper’ AtaLao? Well, when we were working on the Triad AU, none of the characters outside of the canon characters GY, CC, etc had names; we just abbreviated actors’ names. (Asha was just called Zhang. Ata was Elder Zhang. Lao was AL.)

Sooo that brings me back to Rogue One and....

The Ascension of the Lord of Imwe *jazz hands*

With so much inspiration material thanks to the movies DY and JW were in (and because I’m a martial arts nut), I started writing a Chirrut/Baze epic wuxia AU titled the above. It involved Chirrut inheriting the title of Lord (Baze as his right-hand / retainer), a power struggle between households to gain/hold the favor of the Emperor, and the Imwe household working to prove the murder of Chirrut’s father. (It is not posted anywhere. Don’t think it’ll ever see the light of day, but it exists. LOL)

Since the story involved such a huge cast, I thought, why not pull in Zhang to help Baze with security. And if I’m gonna bring in Zhang, I should bring in Ata and Lao! And give them a happy ending. ;u;

And as it turned out, Ata worked perfectly to serve as a parallel for Chirrut (and AtaLao for Chirrut/Baze).

(And this part, you’ll notice, I took to fill in his backstory in Under the Desert Sky.) Ata Zhang was the firstborn son of a prominent family, but he was born mute (a reference to an...incident in Triad AU) and treated poorly because of it. He would have been selected to inherit the family title, but was passed over for his “normal” younger brother. He took over the family’s bookkeeping (a reference to his role as The Accountant), and later, bowed to their wishes to an arranged marriage, from which he got Asha.

(Chirrut is the firstborn son of the Imwe family, fully expected not to inherit the title because of his originally sickly constitution and failing eyesight. To the surprise and consternation of many, he did in fact inherit the title.)

As for Lao, he was an orphan taken in by the Zhang family and initially raised to be a servant, before they switched him to security. He met Ata when they were tiny children, and he accidentally found Ata crying over the way people were treating him. Lao ended up promising to always protect Ata, and eventually becomes Ata’s personal bodyguard.

Please know there’s a LOT of PINING, and longing looks, and knowing they have feelings for each other but never acting on them, and then there’s Ata’s marriage, and baby Asha imprinting like a duckling on Lao, and-- aaaaaaaaah (　ﾟДﾟ)＜!!!!!!!!!!!

Eventually though, as I reference in Under the Desert Sky, Ata’s wife leaves, causing a scandal, and the family takes their displeasure out on Asha, which is the last straw for Ata. He takes Asha and leaves, but of course Lao goes with him. They finally work things out, and when we see them in the fic, they’re an old(ish) married couple who joined the Imwe household along with Asha to protect Ata from his younger brother, who is trying to assasinate him to secure his leadership in the family.

That is AtaLao.

And since they already were in a fic with Chirrut and Baze, I figured, why not include them in Under the Desert Sky, an actual SW divergent AU and not just something wildly AU LOL And it works out perfectly as a pseud-parallel(?) with Ata as a Guardian, Lao as a Mando vs Obi as a Jedi, Jango the Mando. d(￣◇￣)b

Other Existing Iterations of AtaLao

I will keep this brief in the form of bullet points:

Infernal Affairs AU - After watching Infernal Affairs, I had to, had to write a mash up of it and our Triad AU. In it, Ata is still an accountant for the Triad, but was planted by the police. Lao is the mole the triad places among the police. Ata and Lao have a sort of missed connection history when they meet in the fic. I do want to finish it someday because I love what I have written so far. Maybe for the zine I’m hypothetically making one day...

In addition to Triad AU, we also ended up creating an epic high fantasy/Three Kingdoms AU and made two additional variations on top of it. The Main AU involved Lao as a High Priest and healer who ends up mentoring one of the Emperors’ daughters in the healing arts, while Ata is a major in the Emperor’s army who ends up leading a lot of supernatural investigations alongside Lao.

Modern AU is a urban fantasy version of the high fantasy AUs, with everyone in similar roles, just updated for the modern age.

AAAAND THAT’S IT. I’ll do a post on AtaLao in Under the Desert Sky sometimes since I know their backstory won’t be much of a focus in the fic. :)

Some notes about Sharpy’s facial features

I meander for a while about drawing facial features, my novice sketching process, and the best drawn male eyes I’ve ever seen.

For fun, and because he is so adorable (sigh, I can’t trick anyone into thinking I’m not a girl gamer for five seconds--not that I want to but it’s pretty funny that I couldn’t for the life of me do it, oh well), I wanted to point out some things about this sketch (and a few Sharpen sketches I’ve done so far). I’m sure that others do this as well... To make Sharpen more unique and seem like an individual, I’ve placed some tell-tale features in every art of him that I do.

Curl in left eyebrow

“Elvis” curl at his hairline, helps make him seem playful and even himbo-ish, since that’s his personality

And I can’t explain it but the imperfect hair makes him seem more approachable, like any one of us

Tiny scar on his top lip on the left side. I haven’t decided headcanon for that scar yet; it’s just something that I really wanted to do. I think my pencil slipped once and I was like ‘Yaaaas, don’t change that!’

Square-ish forehead. You see the lines there as he turns his head

Some musculature over the eyes

Extremely careful little dots in specific places to indicate more musculature on face. Getting annoyed and erasing the dot and putting it back a milimeter further out is like... WHY do I do it? But I keep doing it, I want them

Lightly defined, high cheekbones (Trixany’s are so strong, I had to really train myself out of giving him super stand-out ones)

Boxier eyes... they do not at all resemble the original inspiration for these eyes when I started sketching him, but I maintained a little of the ‘mystery’ of unusual eyes and strong lashes on a guy (see more below)

Eyes set wide apart

Together, the larger, wide-set eyes give him a kind of baby face? That happened on its own, it wasn’t planned. Sometimes I can see the lil’ Gerber baby in there

A little divot at the top lining of his ears

What else... Well, Tumblr is here to let us indulge in our art and our creativity. I guess I just wanted to say I like how small details like these work together, almost as a unique fingerprint, to keep your character, especially their face, looking like... well, themselves.

Just curious--anyone out there want me to draw Sharpen in a specific setting? I’m getting better at it; I think I can take on a request, though I’m kind of intimidated. I don’t think I’ll do commissions at any point in time. But a prompt for sketching practice? Hell yeah.

These art pieces take me a really long time to do, but the way. I’ll outline something then get kind of exhausted or this uneasy feeling? Like I’m not sure if I really want this, or if it’s right? If it does feel right, then I’ll come back weeks later when I have free time, and at that point, sit for hours sketching and filling in everything else.

Then I get mad when all the little nuances I put on paper get lost when you scan... anyway.

Okay so I almost forgot--these are the prettiest, coolest eyes I’ve ever seen on a male character, ever. EVER. Obviously, I didn’t re-create these all the way (and not really at all) for Sharpen, but I did go with a boxier style, rather than completely round almond eyes. Gennosuke’s eyes were actually central to the plot of Basilisk, I found out later. Here’s another great pic of Gennosuke--now this wallpaper is badass. I remember I had this one for a long time; it was too, too perfect.

Now that’s the power of detail. Yes, there’s a sword and it shines and it’s at the heart of the picture. But the only thing you need, the only thing that matters in this entire artwork are actually those eyes. Blue and white coloring throughout, but then wow, those golden eyes. And the gold isn’t what does it really, it’s the powerful dark lashes that encircle them more like calligraphy, the eyebrows that unite with those... less human, more wild. The man is practically a tiger. That’s the kind of ferocity you’re hit with, the kind of wonder you’re filled with here.

Someone also clearly sat down and thought about how breathtaking it is when you’re right across the table from a guy with eyelashes longer than yours and then you feel that stab of jealousy, along with admiration. Sounds odd, but I think some folks out there know exactly what I mean...

It’s that split second before the instant crush happens. I try to make Sharpy’s eyes do that penetrating ‘instant crush’ thing whenever I draw him. Less because it’s sexy, more because it’s... personal? This is hard to explain. But it feels like he’s having a conversation with you and it’s okay that you’re there with him. He expects you to respond and participate; he thinks he’s your friend. I believe I draw Trixany’s eyes the same way if she’s not posed doing something over-the-top. If she’s just relaxing and sharing herself with you, then it’s a friendly, loving gaze.

The gym t-shirt sketch is the first time I didn’t make Sharpy ‘penetrate the camera’ as they say. It was hard not to redraw it so that he was... decided he was looking in the mirror or something instead.

When I look at Sharpen’s sketch at the very top of this post, I keep wanting him to stop looking elsewhere and look right at me. Right at the viewer. What a cool effect that is. What is that? I don’t know if it’s the context of the other drawings or what. Well, it’s not some magical work of art, only something curious I noticed.

Okay, I could ramble forever. I like art and I like to write so that’s a super-intense combination. I’d love for other artists on here to talk about their process, actually write it out and blather on creatively like I just did. It’s fun. And you learn about somebody’s personality too.

Yes, it’s definitely nice to talk about sketching and the special rainbow of things that go into it sometimes.
