The Mermaid
by W.B. Yeats
A mermaid found a swimming lad, Picked him for her own, Pressed her body to his body, Laughed; and plunging down Forgot in cruel happiness That even lovers drown.

I did in fact write a Mechanisms version of The Mermaid. Unfortunately, all I can do is sing and strum a bit on a ukulele (Technically I can also kind of play piano but I don't have a piano rn) so no one will ever get to hear it--

Propaganda Under the Cut:
Shan:
shan is sent to kill the developer of an ecosystem threatening company but falls in love w him instead. cute and silly <3
Madison:
This is a very close parallel to the Little Mermaid tale. Madison saves Tom Hanks's character (Allen) from drowning - twice! Both times, he's not sure if he's imagined the tail or not. But Madison is determined. She lets her tail dry out which means it turns into legs and wanders (naked) through New York trying to find him. Eventually, she does, and he takes her in, a bit bemused by her odd quirks. They fall in love. But the problem is that her legs revert to a tail whenever they get wet. And there are other people who have seen her as a mermaid. One guy is pretty persistent and, when the two MCs are at a high profile event, with cameras trained on them, he throws water at her. She's revealed and taken away to be tested. He saves her, of course. If I remember right, he goes into the ocean with her at the end. I think it might be implied that he stays with her, which is a pretty cool twist on the tale. I also love the fact that this is basically The Little Mermaid in modern times. What would happen if you're a temporary mermaid in the age of cameras and media (though not social media, as this is in the 80s). Still, the implication of the revelation travelling far and wide is interesting. Do people pass it off as a hoax? Or do people start trying to find mermaids in the oceans? Are there more mermaids (because I don't remember there ever being another one in the film)?
