who's your fav p5 character so far? or if you feel like it, what do u think about each of the phantom thieves?
aside from the forced in "im gonna become a cop" bit I've always had makoto resonate with me a lot going back Years to the other times I've played but never Finished p5. just her entire vibe of feeling like a burden to those around her & making rash decisions to try and proof them wrong on top of her having to really learn to let herself rely on others instead of pushing them away whenever she has a problem all just really Hits Different for me
truly i love em all though genuinely a delightful cast of characters especially once royal came out and actually like. let the cast be friends with each other lmao
joker: love this guy, think it's so funny that he simply can't meet someone and not have them a month later be like "so you're a phantom thief right" because they mentioned a problem person in their lives who then mysteriously changes their ways
ryuji: he Tries so hard constantly and even at his rudest i simply can't help but cheer for him, hes also simply SUCH a good friend to joker he loves his bro so much. let him say fuck
ann: man she's just. so sad. poor girl is just SO sad all the time. but it really does just make it so much better when she does stand up for herself & commit to things because you can tell its NOT easy for her to do and when she does you simply feel so proud of her. i think she's like a year away from realizing she's a lesbian
morgana: fuck the haters i love this guy. "ohhh he's so annoying not letting you go out" that's the game! not him! if he werent there joker would just be like "im too tired lets not do that". yeah hes annoying and selfish at first pretty much every character is he GROWS he LEARNS genuinely he has some of the best character growth in the game. im a morgana stan first and foremost
yusuke: ADHD/broke bitch representation we need & deserve. hes also SO funny and you can tell he isnt even trying to be. his dynamic with futuba is one of my favorite character relationships in the game. dumbass to dumbass communication
futuba: very VERY closely behind makoto for me as favorite. as someone who has spent her entire life dealing with several anxiety disorders who has also made a LOT of big progress with those over the last few years her arc really did hit so close to home for me. im eternally gonna be such a fan of how her change of heart didnt immediately Fix her and instead more gave her the chance to fix Herself because its simply so real to how recovery actually goes. shes also just so Weird and silly that you cant help but love her in such a younger sister kind of way, which on that exact note her sibling style relationship with joker on top of her arc of really learning to see sojiro as her father ? incredible. cried when when she first called him dad.
haru: im only really just now getting to fully experience her because my first time playing p5 stopped at the end of her introduction and other playthroughts before meeting her, but i gotta say shes so NOT the character i was expecting but in a good way. love that shes kind of fucked up. she loves to kill. love that she has a Big Axe. love that she's otherwise very sweet & she gels so well with the rest of the thieves that you forget how late she joins

i implied in my akechi post that i was playing persona 5 BUT i never said that a month or so ago i started persona 4 which i play whenever the tv is being used . crazy girl era is real
anyways this was all to say that the overall gameplay features in p5 are excellent i really like the palaces especially however compared to 4 the characters leave soooooo much to be desired i think they are the weakest of the last 3 games, including protagonist, party members and social links/confidants
since this is my first gameplay of p4 im having a hard time tackling which social links to leave for a future new game plus playthrough as i have to spend time leveling up my social stats but it never felt like i had that problem in p5 and would instead spend time with the stats necessary for my preferred confidants (i mean not like i didn't make a huge effort leveling up my expression stat in 4 for the nanako and dojima links but you get my point). i cried in a bunch of the social links and i find them all genuinely interesting (besides the 2 previously mentioned which are the only i have completed so far are the yumi ozawa/drama club member and single mom links which i think are soooo good) while in 5 i did feel emotional in some but only in the last link i've been crying in a lot of the others since at least halfway through lol. also the majority of the confidants in 5 that aren't party members follow the pattern of making you change someone's heart in mementos which feels lazy and cheap because it's not like you can solve everyone's problems by changing some person's heart. it feels like you are just solving everyone's problems (in a way that gets tiring also) instead of helping them go through a hard moment/give them comfort. there are a lot of confidants that i only want to level up for certain levels because of the abilities they offer you instead of genuine interest. in 4 other than with your party members you cannot gain new abilities so what will end drawing you to them is mainly the characters (or the fusion bonuses)
as for the party members i can see the p4 gang all being friends which helps that banting aside they all show concern for one another + the fact they hang out for silly moments beyond celebrating finishing a mission/welcoming new members. this is besides the different dynamics inside the group and the protag'a different relationship with each of them. however i don't get that sense of friendship in 5? like i don't think these guys would be friends as a group after they stop being phantom thieves and i can only see joker being individual friends with ryuji, ann, futaba and mayyybe yusuke (they still cannot compare to the better dynamics in 3 and 4 though). also as a group dynamic i could only see it with the madarame gang the additions afterward don't feel as close by as a group? plus the convos they have barely make me think they even like each other that much. i think this problem in 5 affected ultimately my feelings on morgana leaving temporarily because it never really hit me where that could have come from even when they started to imply morgana felt useless around the group
as for the protags i know they are all overall meant to be self insert but p4 protag feels like the one who has the most personality. they allow him to be silly, kind and get the "short end of the stick" at times while still having this cool aura around him. joker feels too much like a self insert character meant to be smart and hot and cool etc so guys can pretend to be him. i think something that affected this is how you barely ever get joker's thoughts in the game as morgana kind of works as his consciousness
anyways this is it so far lol as you can see i have a lot of thoughts on the games. i don't think p5 is bad or that you can't love it but its strongest element imo is ultimately what interests me the least i'm all for character driven stories baby ❤ ryuji still *logan roy voice* my number one boy though

Favourite thing about Ryuji? He’s just the nicest guy ever. He loves his friends. He would give his life for them without a second thought. He is a bright sunshiny ball of friendship, he is so funny and silly, and I just really love him
My least favourite thing is so impossible, but I guess I’d say it’s the way the game treats and utilized him after the first chapter. I know that by virtue of introducing new characters as the story progresses old ones are bound to become less relevant, but I think they should’ve used him more. He was the brawn, the muscle of the operation, and I think they could’ve found better ways to keep him more important (like he is in my heart)
“*GASP!* Does that mean you have a phone!?” It was. Soooo hard to pick a favourite line because he’s got a lot of very good ones, but I have to say this one stands out because he’s talking to a fucking CAT

I hc that he is an adhd king. Honestly that’s basically canon given what we see of him in the game but still- it’s important to me. Specifically I think he bounces around a lot, both physically and mentally. He is very hyperactive and he rotates through hyperfixations frequently. He and Ren like to infodump on each other all the time and they love encouraging each other’s interests
I genuinely don’t know what opinions are popular or not so I’m skipping that one again 🤭

Honestly, my romantic ships have to be the other phantom thieves with Joker (minus Futaba cause I like them better as siblings, and also minus Morgana for obvious reasons). Idk I just like the dynamic that Joker has with the others.
Joker/Akechi. Look, I found the two of them neat in P5 and then Royal came along with giving Akechi an actual social rank and I really found them neat. But then fucking Robbie Daymond and Xander Mobus had to make a song together as the characters. Enemies to Frenemies (reluctant allies really) to Lovers really hits with them
Sojiro/Wakaba, just listening to when Sojiro would talk about Wakaba and then seeing the alternative ending with Royal and how Sojiro is there... I absolutely loved them.
3 platonic dynamics I love:
Ann/Shiho (I wish there was more. Thank god for Royal having some moments, but I wanted to visit Shiho in the hospital with Ann or something)
Ryuji/Ann (tbh I love their best friend energy they have going on. Not a single braincell between them and I love it)
Sojiro/Futaba/Joker. I'm sorry but good adoptive father/daughter relationships feel so hard to find and I just love that family so much. It's the found family dynamic too ngl
Honorable mention - Futaba/Yusuke. They're idiots and I love their friendship
3 favorite moments in canon:
Saving Futaba and her learning the truth (honestly her whole arc) was just so amazing. It was so heartbreaking, but so satisfying to be able to help her.
The alternative ending for Royal is a favorite because it's unbelievably bittersweet. Like you should feel happy when you see it. You should think that it's the right choice because everyone got their happy ending, but it's just so heartwrenching and I love it so so much (I cry every damn time I see it).
Every Persona awakening was just amazing to watch. Oh my god and Akechi's "second" persona reveal? It's so amazing and I wish I could watch it all again like I've never seen it before because damn it was so cool.
3 favorite headcanons:
Yusuke ended up taking interest once when Ann and Haru were showing Makoto and Futaba how to paint their nails. Yusuke stated that the girls could do better and then gave them beautiful nail art (he did get a bit thrown off when Futaba wanted nails specific to the Kamen Riders, but he did it).
Ryuji, Mishima, and Joker all just crowded around that gatcha machine in Akihabara or in the Arcade trying to get specific figures and dolls. Mishima and Ryuji taking turns and failing and then Joker, with max stats being smug because obviously he can do it and then he fails too. They eventually suck up their pride and beg Shinya to win them the Jack Frost doll.
Ann visiting Shiho for regular meet ups and telling her all about the new friends she made. Sometimes Ann brings mini paintings that Yusuke drew or anime character stickers that Futaba had extras for. Shiho hasn't met these people, but Ann talks highly about Shiho to them so they all want to give the girl little presents. It is very exciting when Shiho is finally introduced to Ann's new friends. Shiho is very proud of Ann for the happiness she managed to find.
3 least favorite things about it:
Oh fucking boy I hated all the crap Ryuji got. He's such a good best friend, he sacrificed his life! And instead of the "Oh my god, I'm so happy you're okay!" that he deserved, he was pummeled for comedic effect?? Fuck you Atlas.
Again, with Ryuji, specifically with how he was treated by Morgana throughout the entire game. And then when Ryuji stood up for himself, Morgana was suddenly the victim?? Haru didn't even get her own spotlight because of this little shit.
And hey, another least favorite that ties in with the others. Fucking Haru. She was in her dad's goddamn palace. She was trying to fix things so she could have her dad back. It should've been emotional and it should've made us attached and love Haru. But honestly, I was mostly frustrated with the palace and dealing with Morgana that when Haru's dad died it was just an "Oh no! Anyway..." moment where I moved on so quickly. Thank god for Strikers helping me actually appreciate Haru more.

More dumping about Akira’s palace au, this time about Goro - where he’s been for like 5 years and what his role in all it is.
Building off the dummied out p5r scene, Goros probably spent most of his time in and out of the rehab center outside Tokyo and being fairly under the radar. Poor bastard probably didn’t even get a chance to do his college entrance exams or anything, he’s only made a very recent move back to Tokyo and its far less comfortable now he doesn’t have Celebrity/Hitman money and of course as soon as he does some Fuckshit starts happening
The same time as the PTs, Goro’s metaverse app comes back and Of Course he checks it out because That’s Obviously Suspicious
UNLIKE the PTs however he just... can’t help but find himself... being drawn to a certain.... blue door...... wow whoever could it be...........(it’s lavenza)
Lavenza’s having trouble reaching her trickster and fears he’s losing his way against this new adversity - why he already has a palace after all! - so of course she’s going to turn to the only other trickster she can get ahold of to guide his way, and offers him a temporary contract - he aids Joker, and she gives him access to her old ward’s Velvet Room
‘This is my fusion equipment’ ‘That’s an iron maiden’ ‘I don’t have my master’s guillotine I have to improvise’ ‘That’s not-’
She also explains that it’s very admirable of him he got as far as he did the first time round with no external guidance and even then managed to turn around and say ‘fuck you’ to Yaldabaths plan. He would have been a remarkable guest. Wait what do you mean you didn’t know about Yaldabaoth’s plan for you did he not tell you? Do you even know what a Velvet Room is-
That being said his social links were Awful. Except for one of course. You already know who I’m talking about. But any other bonds he may have had have definitely been broken by now.
Anyway armed with some new personas (as much as he can make with his Terrible Terrible Bond management) he heads into Akira’s palace and oh look who it is fancy meeting you guys here no I’m not a cognition put the gun down-
Now here’s where some fun stuff kicks in
Remember when I said Goro’s social links were Terrible? Well as part of his contract with Lavenza he’s gotta FUSE and to fuse good stuff you gotta KNOW people and when you know people you get BONDS oh we are gonna get Goro some FRIENDS, baby!!!
Also since it’s more fun this way: I think Goro’s SLink arcanas with the thieves should be different to Akira’s, since the arcana probably simply a reflection of how the holder sees that person/their relationship w/ the holder sooo with that in mind heres my Thoughts:
Lavenza - Judgement, Wheel of Fortune could also work, but boils down to how she’s the one who’s giving him a call to action
Sumire - Lovers and I KNOW what you’re thinking come back I’m going to explain the meaning of the Lovers arcana in more depth. Lovers' arcana is more symbolic of important choices + between two people is more about solidifying an union with someone you feel you can be honest with. Sumire’s probably the first person in the group Goro forms a bond with and I feel like the two can discuss how they both would have reservations about simply going in and changing Akira’s heart considering how much they both value free will and choice. There’s other things as well but that’d make this section way too long.
Futaba and Haru are very interesting to imagine links with considering their Very Valid reasoning for not wanting to be around Akechi. Haru I can definitely peg as Hanged Man, being stuck between her own personal feelings and how useful he is as a whole to the group, whereas Futaba would probably be more to do with her own anxieties about him being around, so perhaps Moon or Death if we wanna be cliche
Less concrete Reasoning but they have the Vibe: Ann - Temperance Ryuji - Sun, Yusuke - Magician, Makoto - Strength
Morgana - I’ll be honest with you homies I have No Idea what the dynamic between Morgana and Akechi would be compounded by the fact one of them is Litchrally a cat bro
For those curious, his other bonds (broken now) were probably Sae (Chariot) and Shido (Emperor). Even if the bonds themselves were lies or for ulterior motives, they were still Bonds you know

what’s swap akechi’s relationship with the rest of the thieves? i’m really curious what you take on their dynamics would be given akechi is... significantly more abrasive then akira is, even when he genuinely likes somebody.
first I have to say that swap akechi is hmm....a little bit softer than the original cuz all this murders and shido’s shit didn't happen to him. it's still hard for him to control his emotions like anger but he's trying (kinda)
ann: ann is the first person akechi met (just like the joker met ryuji) he didn't let her get in kamoshida’s car, saying that someone should show him the way to school (u know, like a liar). for some reason i always thought that akechi and ann would become best friends. ann is a caring, reliable and good person so goro trusts her and can talk to her about everything
ryuji: their friendship is strange. they can't stand each other's characters and argue but they will stand up for each other like “yeah he's an idiot but only i can call him like that”
morgana: morgana tells goro to be polite to people but akechi just ignores him. they can fight but then peacefully watch movies and eat sushi together. akechi doesn't dislike morgana he just thinks morgana is too noisy
yusuke: akechi thinks that yusuke is an interesting interlocutor and a talented artist even if a bit strange. when they hang out together somewhere, goro always takes more money with him than usual (just in case)
futaba: he and futaba have a typical sibling relationship. they play games and watch anime together calling each other nerds. akechi understands what it's like to lose mother and tries to support futaba as best he can
makoto: he sees Makoto as a good teammate (a little annoying but still) with whom you can discuss strategies and plans. they don't talk too much unless it's about phantom thieves or school

Persona 5 Royal: Showtimes from Worst to Best
This was something I had planned to do when I first encountered them, but I obviously thought it best to wait until I had seen/used all of them before making this list.
For the record, I don’t think any of the Showtimes are “bad” per say, this is more just my thoughts on which was more dynamic and made me go “whoa.”
8. Drive Hard: Morgana & Haru
While I like the visual of Morgana blazing through the city streets in car form, all the Showtime really amounts to is Haru firing her grenade launcher a few times. Cool, but not that dynamic or visually appealing.
7. Inglorious Beefbowls: Ryuji & Yusuke
I do like the pair unloading just a hail of bullets on the enemy when they “burst” in, but I gotta question how Yusuke is always hungry if he can apparently cook so well. Guessing because he’s almost always broke. “Struggling artist” and all.
6. Mad Moxie: Makoto & Ryuji
This one was kind of tough to place. I love the sunset color palette and I ESPECIALLY love the Fist of the North Star homage, Ryuji doesn’t really do anything here. Makoto does a bulk of the work, and while it is cool I think it could have been a bit better.
5. Gun with the Wind: Ann & Morgana
In my opinion, this showtime was the perfect one to introduce the mechanic with. It has the near perfect blend of comedy and action with Morgana giving Ann the roses only for her to pull out the twin SMGs and start blasting (Danny Devito would be proud), and the Morgana bomb was a nice icing on the cake.
4. The Kabuki Kid: Yusuke & Ann
You show me cool sword shit I’m pretty much yours and this is exactly what this Showtime did. The camera work was also pretty good as well with the way Yusuke moved.
3. Dances with Thieves: Joker & Sumire
Now in terms of visuals and camera work this and number one are pretty much even and the dance with the sisters was an excellent touch, but I think what knocks it just a TEENY bit for me was that its essentially Sumire’s show, Joker just provided the grappling hook.
2. PTE Thwackdown: Makoto & Haru
I will admit that in most areas, number three has this one beat by quite a wide margin, but for me Makoto and Haru’s Showtime is number two because it did something I wasnt expecting at all. It caught me by surprise.
Anyone that knows me knows that I am a HUGE pro wrestling fan, so seeing Makoto and HARU of all people throwing lariats, dropkicks, hitting shadows with chairs, and ending with a elbow drop Randy Savage himself would approve of, I can’t help but get hype watching it. Out of all the things I expected their Showtime to be, this easily wasn’t one of them.
1. Bladed Runners: Joker & Akechi
This Showtime is my number one pick for one simple reason: Pure, unadulterated, Badassery. The visual of the rainy rooftop, Akechi’s enraged yell, the camera as it follows both of them in their attacks, the first person view of a psychotic Akechi hacking into their enemy, and finally Joker giving that one last bullet. It all fit together so seamlessly. It’s like if Batman and the Joker teamed up (or maybe Jason Todd and the Joker since AkiRen uses a gun). This Showtime literally made me an Akechi fan.

ng+ confidants
first ng+ confidants post here. I’ve had the other confidants that I wrote things for sitting in my drafts forever, and finally I decided to just post it. (Except with how I said Mishima’s got depressing? He’ll be a separate post.)
NG+ Chihaya thinks she can play off her foreknowledge as her fortune telling being that good...and is distressed when the year starts deviating from expectations the second she was supposed to meet the Trickster again. What happened??? (She stopped hawking Holy Stones and started encouraging cult members and others to take control of their lives months earlier than the first timeline, and while her efforts seem small to her, they’re actually having a significant effect on Mementos by causing more disruptions from those Shadows in the Depths when they’d once been some of the most passive. It’s not enough to dismantle Mementos or anything extreme like that, but it’s enough that Yaldabaoth is taking note of her.)
NG+ Ohya is chasing down the leads about Shido so much sooner because now that she knows about the things he’s done, this could be the scoop of her life. The final scoop, if she’s not careful. ...Maaaaay try to get Ren to teach her about his work so she understands better what kind of risks she’s taking? I can see her being the one adult member of the PT, and the fourth to have blackmailed her way in (because she loves the kid but he’s cagey and dammit, she needs to know.)
NG+ Shinya--Shinya doesn’t really have any unique changes to bring except for standing up to his mom sooner and also he would 100% try to find Ren earlier like, he knows Ren attends Shujin, so it’s time to go to Shujin! aaaaand wait why is Ren looking at him weird aw hell it is weird for a grade schooler to just go up to high schoolers and blurt out that they can teach them about Gun About, isn’t it? Shinya, like Takemi, would 100% tail Ren into Mementos/a Palace and then have to explain himself, except he’s probably figured out by then not to just blurt out things, so he gets nervous trying to think of how to explain...which then makes Ann go awwww and tell Joker and Skull not to be mean to the kid, he’s shy and it is kind of scary to be down here. ...Ann quickly learns Shinya is not actually shy. Ann also learns, along with Ren, that the Ryuji-Morgana dynamic is 10x worse with Shinya tossed in to the mix. If he joins the team there is so much arguing, it’s a mess. The upside is that Ryuji probably tries to act more mature (he doesn’t always succeed) since unlike with Morgana, it’s obvious Shinya’s younger; and since Morgana claims he’s more mature, Ann and Ren hold him to that, which...both helps and doesn’t. (Morgana bites back scathing commentary more. He bites back everything else more, too, so he probably ends up feeling like he doesn’t belong and leaving the team again.) It’d be interesting for playing with the team dynamic.
NG+ Hifumi quits shogi despite her mother’s protests and approaches Yusuke at school, aware that he is a victim of Madarame, and tries to both give him support and reach out to the Phantom Thieves that way. (Yusuke is...utterly baffled that someone wants to talk to him, and doesn’t really see why she would want to, but she does have elegant features, and--this may throw off him asking Ann to model. Which may throw off Madarame being noticed by the Phantom Thieves. Which would throw off absolutely everything else in the game. ...Oops? Hifumi doesn’t know how the PT work at all, really, so she doesn’t know for sure that anything has gone awry until the date of Madarame’s press conference comes and goes with no press conference, at which point she’s horrified that she’s somehow caused Yusuke to be left in his situation even longer and immediately sets out to find Ren and get the PT to save Yusuke, though it may be complicated if her mother is punishing her for not going along with her plans.)

do I like them:
Like him? Like him??? I adore the boy! That’s my boy!
5 good qualities:
1) Okay I know a lot of people put it in the negative qualities, but his anger. It consistently comes from a place of compassion, of seeing people being treated less than they deserve! I love a good example of righteous fury and Ryuji has it in spades. Plus, for me at least, it’s relatable.
2) That said, even if it’s (in my humble onion) good anger, it can get ahead of him/out of hand, and he recognizes that. And when it goes too far, he apologizes! He knows, admittedly often in retrospect, when he’s gone too far and needs to make up for it. And then he does!
3) Loyal, kind of to a fault. He’s ride or die for the protag from day one to endgame, even if you take the options to be an asshole to him and throw him under the bus for the entire game. He’s still looking out for the track team even though they don’t want anything to do with him. He deserves better.
4) He loves his mama.
5) That smile. Enough said.
3 bad qualities:
1) Always putting himself down. He’s fantastic and needs his confidence back. No, honey, you do not deserve to be beat up by your ex-teammates from track. I’m gonna beat them up right back, and then the people who let you think this way, starting with Atlus.
2) Protag can’t romance him. It’s not his fault though.
3) Poor boy got slapped with the Token Perv designation.
(There is a pattern here to his bad qualities that are more about Atlus than the character himself.)

I love his awakening (granted, I love all the awakenings) but probably my favorite thing is when he just. Invites you to go fishing on his birthday? do I like them:
I really do, partly out of spite for the part of the fandom that doesn’t like her, mostly out of genuine enjoyment for the character.
5 good qualities:
1) I’ll say it flat out, I respect her saying that the Phantom Thieves aren’t a permanent solution to society’s problems and that while they’re doing good work for those with no other options, society as a whole would stagnate for relying on them and not facing their own problems head-on. Because she’s absolutely right (as seen in the 12/24 Bad Ending), regardless of the particular irony of her circumstances when she said it.
2) Her overall growth from depression and self-deprecation to unflinching determination is super admirable and tbh kinda resonated with me.
3) Again, respect for turning down the Phantom Thieves to focus on herself. I like an ally character who won’t immediately bend over backwards for a player character, it keeps things interesting.
4) Impressively sneaky. Very important for a Phantom Thief, even if she isn’t officially one until almost the end. Tailed them in Sae’s palace without tipping them off on the 18th, eavesdropped on the conversation with Lavenza and just turned up in Maruki’s palace like it was no big deal, she’s fuckin’ impressive.
5) Who doesn’t love a good cook?
3 bad qualities:
1) Not her fault, but the big gap in the story between maxing her confidant early on in the game and then not being really relevant at all until 3rd semester save for a couple of “hey remember she’s still around” cutscenes leaves her feeling really isolated from the rest of the game. It’s more an issue of the writing not making an effort to connect her to the rest of the group/story at large. (I have my issues with Persona 4 Golden, but the New Girl confidant was at least better linked to the rest of the team during her social link.)
2) Girl I get the depression aspect, but why did you think Kasumi wouldn’t have mourned your death beyond, “well now I’m gonna keep working at this goal for both of us”??? (I know, I know, she is grieving, but a lot less that we see her do as Sumire, and again, the depressive spiral that made her take off like that anyways, but still.)
3) Another complaint more at the writing team than at the character herself, but I do wish that the protag could have been a little more of a smartass to her like he can to the rest of the team. “Are you going to the park cleanup too?” “Nah, I’m wearing my school gym clothes for fun.” Y’know, harmless sass like that. She suffers from a little bit of “Here’s The New Waifu, Now Love Her” writing.
4) Atlus, please give me a Confidant item that gives me those sweet, sweet perks back in NG+.
favourite episode/etc:
Her second/real awakening during the third semester. Partly because by the time we got to Makoto’s awakening, the tearing-off-the-mask moment was more of a “okay you’ve seen this part, on to The Reveal” and that was disappointing because I liked how visceral and cathartic the first three were, and boy did hers fuckin’ deliver on that. It was fantastic.

I do not! Nothing against it but I just don’t personally enjoy the process so I don’t use it in my personal work. Too much transforming and filtering.. too little actual drawing. I have however used it for professional work and sometimes I will sketch things individually and collage them together to make it easier for me to work depending on the scale. But yeah, no photobashing normally.

(post in reference) I didn’t use any perspective grids for that drawing but occasionally for bigger pieces that require a stronger adherence to perspective I’ll use the Perspective Tools extension by Sergey Kritsky which is ABSOULTELY worth the price here on gumroad if you’re a photoshop-user - makes grids very easy to set up. You can actually see some of the grids in my process work if you’re looking for it lol
I used to be such a square abt it like “bluh perspective is just a bunch of lines i dont need a tool to do it for me like a DUMB BABY. I can just draw the grids myself and itll be good enough!!! :\” dont be like that LOL, I started using perspective tools for work last year and ported it over to my personal work so damn fast its like one of the best artistic decisions ive made. If you can make less work for yourself, PLEASE make less work for yourself.

I will probably draw naruto again because like every 4 years of my life I go through a naruto phase. Uhhhh they’re good! I like them! Yusuke’s character arc is maybe like my favorite or second favorite in the game and I love Ryuji first and foremost for max mittlemans voice acting and secondly because he is just so...so much better than P4 Yosuke who I truly could not stand.
I’m not big on Mishima but I think he’s an incredibly well written depiction of like. that dude in class who you didn’t really mean to talk to but ended up talking to and now its a little weird. I really like that event where you run into shinya while hanging out with mishima and shinyas like “whos this your friend” and ren is like “no, king, hes no one” LOL this is mostly because I just really like shinya.
ships.... I like yusuke/ryuji a lot, just aesthetically and personality wise its an interesting dynamic. I like ryuji/ann bc theyre good friends. I like ann/yusuke if I close my eyes to all the early plot stuff and just pretend theyre like.....fujiko and goemon from lupin III LMAO. ryuji/makoto? kinda woke?? I mean I feel lesbian makoto deep in my bones but also their showtime opened my eyes a lil. I think they could bond over action movies. mishima/protag is kind of fun in like a sad pathetic way.. I'm only doing (vanilla) p5 because this post ended up being pretty long.
I'm on mobile as well so there is no under the cut I'm so so sorry
5: I appreciate the like message this game is going for but I feel like it's too torn on if it wants to be like a silly anime highschool game or like a serious game about society and abuse of power. Genuinely the writing in this game is so like weird and it contradicts it's themes all the time I don't get it. People are absolutely right through when they say this game peaks early. Madarame's palace feels so low stakes after Kamoshida's it's insane. I feel like the villains in this game a really weak in all honesty. Other then Kamoshida and Akechi none of them really leave and impact. I think Akechi was really well done though if I didn't go into this game spoiled already I wouldn't have expected the twist with him after he joins your party.
Gameplay is really fun though but I wish they leaned more into interrogations because there's not really a reason to do so other then acquiring new personas (which you can often get by just fighting enemies anyway). Baton pass is one of the absolute best additions to the game. Also one thing I like is them adding a specific like gameplay bonus to all the social links I hope they continue that in the next entry.
I wanna give my opinions on the party members but I don't know how to like put that in a paragraph so...
Morgana: I really like him one on one with Joker but I don't like his dynamic with a majority of the group though. I don't remember what they were arguing about in the sequence where Morgana leaves the group but I felt like it was dumb and they just wanted to create conflict within the group for the sake of it without them really having and solving an issue if that makes sense. I'm glad he didn't end up being human in the end though I think it would have been tired since that's what they did with Teddie (suppressing royale in my mind). He's a good cleric early game but once Makoto got mediarama I never once used him
Ryuji : my favourite party member character wise but unfortunately I don't have much to say about him. He's cool and I like him. I feel like he gets used as the butt of jokes too often and it feels kind of mean. Really liked his dynamic with the protag and I wish Atlus didn't hate gay people so he was a romance option. Gameplay wise one of my least favs unfortunately I really didn't vibe with his playstyle that much.
Ann: potentially really cool character that's whole story and arc is completely undercut by being sexualized to hell and back. Aside from that u didn't like her social link that much from what I got (I got her to 7). I liked when she was talking about herself but the like rivalry or whatever she had with the other model wasn't something I could find myself caring about at all.
Yusuke: I probably wouldn't really like him if it weren't for the fact that he reads as autistic and adhd to me. He's funny and I like his dynamic with Futaba. Gameplay wise he is one of my favs I love the baton pass power up mechanic. Also his confidant benefit is really helpful.
Makoto: probably my second fav party member but I would not be able to tell you why. I think making her an aspiring cop in a game about corruption of authority is the most tone deaf thing on earth. Mechanically a must have for my party her defense buffs and party heals are absolutely lifesavers.
Futaba: she's fun as a character and I like her dynamics with the rest of the group. As a navigator though she gets super grating super quickly she really really could have benefited from more lines. I don't have anything else to say about her but she also has autism and adhd
Haru: I love her design and I like what she brings to the group. I didn't like most of her links unfortunately. I nearly romanced her though she, and Hifumi are the only romance options I think really work with Joker in my brain. She has the coolest persona out of all the thieves. Mechanically she's one of the most fun party members. Her gun elements m attacks are so so fun and I like the grenade launcher alot.
Anyway I think Persona 5 is a good game with a crazy amount of issues unfortunately. If an rpg like this sounds like your sort of thing you'd probably like it. Also if you like FE it reminds me of some of the stuff I like about it

How I feel about this character:
I like her! While I do agree that the fact she is recruited right when things kick into gear is kinda frustrating, I think she has a lot of great little moments that are overlooked, she is charming and cute

I’m actually glad that her recruitment was nonstandard, it shook up the usual ‘oh person who is not supposed to be there wander in the Metaverse and turns out there is a persona user” while it doesn’t last for long, there are questions of if she could be Black Mask, and in general it makes it feel like the world doesn’t just revolve around what Joker sees on screen, the fact she is closer to other ppl than Joker (at least at first) is interesting
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
A conversation with Akechi about the whole father murder thing would be great, I know she is a pretty private person, and if it happened it would likely be without Joker, but the fact she still tries to be polite to him while being upfront about not forgiving him is an interesting dynamic

I guess I wish her relationship with her body and sexuality was made a little more clear, the writing around that is an example of the game both wanting to appeal to fantasies and real life issues, from what i gathered she was fine with being sexy when she was the one who chose to do it, so it would have been nice if more of the fan-service stuff had her kinda initiating stuff

Again I also really liked her confidant, like Ann I think the Eiko stuff was very minor in the long run, and considering her strong sense of justice it made sense for hers to take place through an active investigation of sorts rather than her having a pity party for herself and spilling her past

My bias might be showing again but I am curious about her relationship with Akechi, I doubt they were close but it feels realistic that she would know he was basically Sae’s intern, and while I doubt they interacted much one on one outside that one scene where he calls her nothing but a goody two shoes, I wouldn’t mind exploring it more

Maybe my own sheltered weirdo art kid is showing, but he really isn’t as out-there as ppl claim, I was expecting a hammy off the walls character from what fandom showed, but if anything his is really quiet, withdrawn and again most of his eccentricities is just him having been really sheltered his whole life and having to adjust to living on his own, like in the grand scheme of things, buying lobsters just to draw them is something I could see ppl in my life doing and maybe joking about for two or three days before being completely forgotten
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
I think he is the phantom thief that fades into the background the most, and I wish he had a bit more relevancy for the rest of the game, which is harder to do bc he isn’t the most social or touchy-feely outside of art, I wish I got a great sense of camaraderie at least from his reasons for sticking around besides “friends” feels very weak

Lol I feel like I pissed off a lot of ppl by saying I couldn’t stand him if he was real, but really he is like the eptimone of teenage rage, like he has good reasons to be angry but he doesn’t really know how to cope with it in the right ways, like no offense but walking up to somebody and just asking “hey are you being abused” isn’t all that helpful to a victim and other little things that in a less power-fantasy narrative could go really wrong, I don’t think presenting those flaws is bad, and I don’t think he is a bad character, but as someone who has also had to carefully manage my anger, it hits me in a very “remembers bad memory and cringes way”
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
Look I know teenagers can be horny and I am not against ever showing that, but i guess as a grown woman I could have done without all the “lets score some babes” talk

PQ2 - End
As I did expect; making sure I was able to comfortably beat the Velvet Rangers first did mean Enlil, though visually impressive, wasn’t a difficult fight. I simply equipped Ryuji with the Omnipotent Orb and had him All Guard every turn and this left Enlil unable to do anything whilst the Joker, Mitsuru, Chie and Ann wailed on them.
The ending was honestly good though, very emotional, heart-tugging, I honestly haven’t had this much fun finishing a game since J.J. Macfield and the Island of the Missing.
PQ2 is honestly a gem I feel. Beyond fun mechanics that I found easy to get back into even after long gaps, it balances the character development of an enormous cast very successfully, with only some issues.
Even though I knew nothing of P3 or P4 the game conveys their characters in a way I found enjoyable and easy to sink into, and that is really no small feat considering that the cast is, honestly, just insanely large by the end.
I enjoyed Enlil as an antagonist for the most part, though they could definitely have used a little more substance in the plot, but this game, overall, was less focused on it’s villain and more on it’s protagonist, and that’s fine.
To that end Hikari: the game is honestly the story of her character development and I loved her. It’s a pity we don’t see much of her in the fandom, because I honestly adore Hikari and find her enchanting and relatable in a number of ways.
Her farewell to the friends she made at the finale of the game was genuinely touching.
In general the farewells at the end are emotional, and I enjoyed them all, event he little nod to Akechi’s own mixed feelings, clearly dealing with something, as he is the most hesitant of the Phantom Thieves to finally exit the theatre after they have learned they will forget everything once they are outside. A nice touch!
Of course, because it is me, I do wish to gush briefly about Ryuji: OH MY GOSH I love his dynamic with Hikari? But, also, I just love him in this game? He comes across in PQ2 as if he has matured from his incarnation in the vanilla game. Not only is he the character, along with Futaba, who spends the most time supporting and speaking with Hikari, but even in the ending when most of the Thieves all express varying degrees of excitement or forced enthusiasm about returning home, Ryuji is the one who most noticeably feels sad about the whole affair, expressing how he suddenly misses everything they’d gone through.
On the note of Ryuji and Hikari’s bond: I had thought it mostly just an accidental outgrowth of Ryuji’s common role as an externalization of Joker’s words, but when I watch the ending perhaps it is more intentional than I thought. Noticeably Futaba and Ryuji deliver the closing lines to Hikari, Ryuji is the one who, as she tears up, tells her to remember to keep her promise to invite them to see her movies and in the post-credits scene Ryuji is the character who feels they NEED to see her movie when they find a flyer for it, going so far as to clutch at his head because he, without knowing why, just knows he HAS to go do this. Furthermore, the cutscene as Hikari says her final goodbye and leaves, is framed around a small group of characters: Ryuji, Futaba, P3FemPC, Yukari, Mitsuru and Morgana. Among those Ryuji, Futaba and P3FemPC are the characters with the largest interaction with Hikari throughout the game, and I honestly have adored those four together.
I honestly have no idea why I am typing this, the game is dated and I believe interest in it limited, but I’d recommend any fan of Persona who hasn’t given it a try to do so, if only because the story and characters are honestly well executed, better in many ways than Vanilla.
To be frank; whilst Vanilla has moments that legitimately make me depressed, the scene in Shinjuku and the scene after Shido’s Ship, even at it’s worst PQ2 never has it’s characters be that mean to each other. Even when they jibe or insult they never cross a line to abusing or accosting, and they never all single out one character to relentlessly, constantly, deride.
A breath of fresh air really!
Anyway; I loved the game, I had fun, now I guess I wait for Scramble to become available, and I hope we get to see more of the P5 cast still in future (ALSO ATLUS JUST LET ME HOOK THE PT’S UP WITH EACH OTHER OR DATE THE BOYS PLEASE I WANT TO GIVE THEM LOVE TOO THEY DESERVE IT).
For fun below the divide I’m just gonna mention the relationships, romantic or platonic I’m not going to bother much with a distinction, I really have come to like following this game even though, I am sure, they are all crack.
Enjoy:
Chie/Yukiko: Whether best friends or girlfriends no pair of characters in the P4 cast seemed to, from the outset, come across as obviously as if they are close. The two seem to complement each other well, know each other well and play off each other well and are always delightful and entertaining to watch.
Mitsuru/Junpei: I talked about this one before; I just honestly loved their Ticket and found it endearing how both, in their interactions with each other, were almost Tsundere-ish in admitting to private desires to get along, and take care of each other dearly, but struggling to break through the shell of the other to confess this.
Ryuji/Hikari: Talked about this one at massive length already; suffice to say I honestly loved their interactions so much and, along with Ryuji’s interactions with Sophia I have seen now in Scramble, Ryuji radiates enormous, powerful, Big Brother/Father energy. Which I think is great? What better arc for Ryuji than, a person who’s life is overshadowed by his awful father, to turn out to be a wonderful father himself.
Yusuke/Yukiko: These two just get each other. Honestly they just click. They tune in to the same cosmic wavelength and leave everyone confused as they naturally just synch up. It is a pity as the game enters its later stages we see less of them, in the early game they are a treat.
Ken/Akechi: Ken and Akechi just are perfect, wonderful, foils to each other and it’s almost a pity the game can’t actually go the full way with it because Akechi’s secret can’t come out. This leaves it as a tease, the suggestion, of what could be, but that’s still plenty good. I also find it always interesting to see Ryuji and Akechi, two boys heavily formed by an abusive father, both in their own explicit words state outright they relate themselves to Ken in some way. With Akechi, because he is so good at wearing masks, I wonder how true it is when he relates himself to Ken, it’d be interesting to know if this is one of his lies to maintain his façade, or a bit of his true self creeping out as it often does.
Joker/Junpei: I don’t know why I like these two? But Joker comes across as really fond and supportive of him with his consistent chances to shout out “Junpei! Master Detective!”
Yukari/Junpei: As I said in my head I go back-and-forth whether this would be endearing or a toxic hate-love relationship. There’s no denying, though, that these two interact more with each other than anyone else in the P3 cast, they’re the Yukiko/Chie in that sense, if Yukiko/Chie consisted of a lot of barbs and harsh words. We actually get a glimpse of what, I feel, is a healthier dynamic for the two in P3FemPC’s world in the epilogue, where Yukari is still barbed but rather than deflating Junpei ripostes back, this automatically makes it seem less mean-spirited heckling and more two people, comfortable with each other, bantering.
Futaba/Hikari: This one is the obvious choice since the game is obviously going out of it’s way to make this an important relationship. Futaba sees herself in Hikari and appoints herself like an older sister to help her. It is adorable and amazing character development as the socially reclusive and shy Futaba clearly forces herself out of her comfort zone to prove to Hikari that she can change and that she is not a lost cause. Along with Hikari it is, perhaps, Futaba who is the true MVP of this entire game.
Futaba/P3FemPC: Futaba gets some lovely Sister-like sequences with the incredibly fun and social P3FemPC, who Futaba is clearly in awe of. It is a pity that these really only happen in the early game, I’d love for them to continue, but P3FemPC as the big, fun, sister figure of Futaba is fun.
Ryuji/Yukiko: This one is just because the ending of Haru and Yukiko’s ticket has one of the funniest bit ever when Haru and Yukiko decide they want to ‘play’ with Ryuji and Yosuke. Yukiko’s ‘Will you devote all of your being to the name of the Amagi Family?’ is wonderful and I can just imagine Ryuji’s reaction to such a frank proposition.
Mitsuru/P3FemPC: This one was actually surprising to me but Mitsuru really has something of an almost maternal instinct for P3FemPC. She seeks to console her and let her know she is valued, even if Mitsuru is poor at expressions of affection, as seen in Junpei’s case as well. In many ways it strikes me as a more sympathetic Sae/Makoto. Mitsuru clearly cares for the P3FemPC and is aware of her disconsolate feelings, but struggles to find the words to comfort her, but doesn’t let that stop her trying.

The Daybreakers are so goddamn GOOD and I'd pay a pretty penny for a game with just them as the team and a Mona/Ryuji dynamic like in the dancing game and Scramble: squabbling siblings who fight to hell and back but are also ride or die.
Seriously though the team dynamic is PERFECT: Yusuke's eccentricity and dry wit, Ryuji's excitable nature, Ann's spunk, Mona's sass- mwah. That's where they peaked imho. I love Akechi and Haru and Futaba too but the first 5 is where the game REALLY shined in terms of interaction. Plus a smaller team would allow for more character development overall since there's more time to focus on everybody.

So, I will admit I’m a ship whore and these are being ranked in no particular order, but here goes!
Ann / Ryuji - I feel like they’re one of those unique ships that could work equally well as platonic best friends or the foundation for a solid romantic relationship. They have that past history, they had a chance to grow closer through their shared experiences with Kamoshida and their playful and bickering dynamic, to me, has always implied a sense of mutual comfort around each other. They would be that couple that argues about dumb stuff but at the end of the day, they’d also have each other’s backs and be able to confide in each other. That’s my opinion anyway.
Makoto / Ryuji - This has always been a ship I’ve liked too, I see Ryuji very much being into strong women and Makoto definitely embodies that and not even just in a physical sense. The shit that this girl has to juggle in her life and how she manages to keep it all together and be as accomplished and as strong as she is, I think, would put him completely in awe. If I were to ship them, I think the fact that she’s student council president and presumably someone with very good grades and a bright future ahead, would be an interesting contrast with Ryuji, someone who doesn’t really have any goals or interest in school. Could be a chance to explore sharing a more vulnerable side with each other.
Haru / Ryuji - I feel like they could be good to each other, they could treat each other with the kindness and respect that they both deserve. I could see a relationship between them, especially in the budding stages being very shy and hesitant and full of these cute little ‘firsts’ moments for couples. I think this relationship would definitely be very much one of mutual respect and awe and I can definitely say Ryuji respects the hell out of her and what she’s been through.
Yusuke / Ryuji - This came about largely through a crackship but I do think they would work together - I’ve always liked the dynamic where one half of the couple is loud and boisterous and perhaps emotional to a fault, whereas the other one is more grounded in logic and reason and is the sort who probably thinks things through or doesn’t display their emotions quite as openly. I think it makes for an interesting relationship and a chance to really have these muses open up, and I think they make for a couple who have the potential for a lot of really cute - and also maybe a little comical moments.
Joker / Ryuji - One BROTP to rule them all - okay maybe that’s an exaggeration, but Persona has always been on point with their BROTP’s and I feel like they hit it out of the park with this one. I feel similarly in the sense with Ryuji and Ann where I think you can keep them in a platonic direction but they would also work well in a romantic direction if you wanted to write that. They have a strong foundation and established backstory together, I feel like they have a unique and special bond as the first two sort of founders. I feel like they really are best friends, in the truest sense of the world and sometimes best friendships can seamlessly transition into wholesome relationships.
