Genuinely curious about how other people think Andalites calculate time, days, and years.
In the Hork-Bajir chronicles it’s indicated that two years passed on Earth (though we don’t know definitively if it was exactly two years or closer to one or three) and 2.3 years passed on the Andalite homeworld. But I’m an interview Applegate claimed that Ax was approximately 2 years old, and if we are to believe Ax is around the same age as the Animorphs that means that every Andalite year is about 7-8 Earth years. Personally, I like to go off of what Applegate said in the interview even though it differs from the Hork-Bajir chronicles.

Day 7
Gray morning. Drizzle. Chilly. We were up and out by 7:45am to give our hosts time to get to work.
Our first stop was 4 miles into our ride at Libby’s Restaurant in downtown Wilmington. We needed the massive omelets, home fries, and toast with jelly to fuel our day.
Todays route was all on surface roads that connected the small towns between Wilmington and Philly. The neighborhoods covered the gamut from inter-city to obviously affluent. Similarly, the roads went from wide and lightly traveled to jam packed and pot-holed.
In Philly, we stopped for coffee/tea and to check out a bike shop. The shop owner was thrilled to see two guys roll up with panniers. Although he had never done any touring, he was excited for us.

Next we went through the Penn campus and across the Schuykill River to link up with our friend Charlie. After a rest day tomorrow, Charlie will join us for several days on the road from PA through NJ into NY.

We rode the bike trail along the Schuykill to get to Charlie’s house in Haverford. Along the way we got a tour of the city skyline, the boat houses on the river, and several neat towns along the way.

Before we made it to Charlie and Karen’s house we stopped to sample the local beers at Tired Hands Brewing. Once home, Charlie prepared a delicious venison bolognese over fettuccine and a salad of tender greens with a balsamic dressing… fantastic!

She would know the references for his music better than a lot of people, she was with him for the entire creative process of thbc. they would have discussed it a lot, also she really likes music too (i mean everyone does but she is very open about it as a passion for her) so i am sure she was bracing herself for the day the album got released / Have I entered a parallel universe? What's up with this revisionist history? For most fans at the time it was obvious that Taylor wasn't a fan of Alex's music. She showed no interest in TLSP unless it was Sweet Dreams TN and got told as much by the fans. That's why she made that bragging post with the TBHC merch to show her (fake) support. Second of all, Alex talked about his isolating process while writing TBHC. He spent days at a time in his home studio alone. Taylor was probably not much interested. And her number one passion is film, not music. Even back then she was posting more film quotes/references than music stuff. Someone's trying really hard to make The Car about Taylor. lmao
That doesn't mean she doesn't understand references we wouldn't. She lived with him and shared a life with him. It's not necessarily about being a fan of his music, but understanding the way he thinks on a personal level and references/information from his life. I think that's where the anon was coming from by saying that.

10 Questions Tag
@power-of-ages-writeblr tagged me! (Thanks Harold!) I’ve been straight-up not doing tags since I’ve been so busy, but I decided to crawl out of my hole and do some in an effort to get back on track.
1.) How do you title your WIPs?
When I figure it out, I’ll get back to you. I usually start out with a title already in mind, (such as Lucidity) and sometimes it’s inspired by random things (Caludia the Last came about because of a typo). Otherwise I think about what the story is about and just kind of pick out a title from that (ie: Candlesticks).
2.) Do you tend to come up with the plot first, or the characters first?
Plot first, for the most part.
3.) Preferred writing soundtrack?
Don’t have one at the moment, but I usually go on Spotify and just type in “writing instrumental” and use whatever pops up. I don’t have to have music to write, though.
4.) How specific are the appearances of your characters in your head?
Noooot... very specific, actually. It’s probably because I haven’t fully fleshed out my stories. I do have a couple characters (Yuhua and Thane from Of Dragons and Princes) who I do have some idea of what they look like. Maybe I’ll post some of my sketches here someday.
5.) What’s your favourite trope to use?
Family drama! Soooo much fun to write. I also love found family and that trope where villains become anti-heroes.
6.) Did you do NaNoWriMo this year? Why or why not?
No, sadly I didn’t. I was really busy with school this year, but maaaybe next year. Fingers crossed!
7.) How do you handle the dreaded writer’s block?
I take a break from what I’m working on and go do something else!
8.) Where do your characters fit in the cinnamon roll meme?
Well in the case of most of my stories it’s a bit early for me to pinpoint which characters are my cinnamon rolls, but at this point in development I’m pretty sure both Queen Elena and her lady-in-waiting, Lithia, from The Head That Bears the Crown would fit into that category.
Queen Elena is the young queen of Esdaroth; she grew up with her younger brother, Prince Eugilus, her cousin, Prince Tritus, and Ivona, the main character of the story. She’s a long-suffering big sister type, very responsible and serious, and loves her siblings very much.
Lithia was Elena’s lady-in-waiting and best friend growing up. They did everything together, and their bond was really close up til around the time that Lithia married a noble of a court. Lithia passed away in childbirth soon after, and her husband soon followed her during the Plague. They were survived by their son, Ivain.
Elena built an orphanage for young plague survivors like Ivain, and often stops by to play with him.
9.) What do you wish you’d see more of in stories?
In a word, D I V E R S I T Y.
More women, or, well, more well-written women, in general. More male characters who are comfortable enough in their masculinity to be gentle and soft and kind and genuinely caring. More POC characters! Particularly Chinese characters (because I’m Chinese and hey why not?) More neurodivergent characters! More families who genuinely love and support one another. Platonic and supportive boy-girl relationships that stay platonic and supportive. Bonus points if they’re both straight. Actually, more platonic and supportive relationships in general!
10.) Aside from writing, what’s your favourite way to pass the time?
I like reading books, watching films, and listening to musical theatre cast recordings. These days I find myself on YouTube a lot, too, mostly watching Dollightful’s doll faceups. It’s absolutely fascinating!
