this year my goal was to read at least 25 books (which now seems too easy) and i decided to start with rick's books cuz i loved pjo
(i then realized i had actually never finished the pjo series - i didnt finish the LAST book... thats crazy)
i went on yt and found a vid that showed the RIGHT way to read all his books so my journey started.
anyway blah blah blah, i wanted to talk about the kane chronicles
obv spoilers if you havent read those and if you care
hell nah. that series was so bad 😭😭 (imo ofc and ill explain why i think so)
i should mention that i read the first and third book, but i only read half of the second book cuz it got very looooooong and boring to me (i just read the wikipedia summary for it)
also the only reason i read these books was cuz i knew there would be a collab between the magicians and demigods and that sounded rly interesting to me!
im usually not that picky when it comes to books/fics/anything so i was surprised i didnt like these books. first of all theyre so long, and for what.. the world ends in 3, 4, 5 days yet each book is 90k words at best and 120k-ish words at worst. it just dragged ooooooon and onnnnn and onnnnnnnnnn. i thought maybe its just the length that im not used to (even tho ive read way longer fics but i thought maybe its not the same..) then i started reading the heroes of olympus series which was a similar length and i sped thru those. which prob means that the kane chronicles were just boring. i was gonna say that it just felt like there were attacks and fights just cuz, but then again, thats kinda similar to percy jackson books. i cant put my finger on why some fights felt kinda useless and filler.. unlike in pj books. also when they beat apophis it felt too easy. there was so much build up to that final battle, and in the end he got destroyed in like half a page or smt.. not satisfying! and since we know the kane siblings are still alive (cuz of the recording being sent etc), it didnt feel like there was anything at stake.
the egyptian mythology was actually pretty interesting, i did like learning about it. however, at times there was just a LOT of info being dumped- so many gods/stories etc that i had a hard time remembering everything. i think w the percy jackson/greek mythology books there was just more time for rick to set the scene and build the world so it didnt feel that overwhelming (even tho it was still a lot, im ngl).
and now my biggest complaint... i thought rick could write powerful female characters butttttttttt maybe that was just annabeth LOL. SADIE WAS SO ANNOYING!!!!!! she was SO unlikeable but i think we werent supposed to dislike her??? yeah shes young but so was percy and annabeth and every demigod from the pjo series and they were much more enjoyable to read about. all she cared about was guys. more specifically, sadie, a 12yo, was head over heels for ANUBIS, a THOUSAND YEAR OLD god, who oh yeah,,, looked like a 16yo guy but idk if its just me, thats still a WEIRD/uncomfy AGE DIFFERENCE 😭shes so lucky that she ended up w basically both guys she had a crush on, but she still made it such a big deal when that happened.
like anubis had stabbed her in the back or smt lmfao. also should mention that in the pjo books for ex., percabeth didnt just happen when they were 12/13... a long time passed so that relationship could feel unrushed and natural.
dont get me wrong, liking a guy etc is all normal and very teenage-y (even tho sadie wasnt even a teenager when all this happened). but making that MOST of her personality, or smt she constantly thought about and prioritized during the END OF THE WORLD. she just seemed very irresponsible and immature (which makes sense cuz shes a child.... maybe i shouldnt be reading these books as an almost 20yo) (but i can still tell when some1 has annoying qualities objectively) (even if its still a kids book)
idk thats just annoying. carter was tryna save the day/world and sadie had other things in her mind. or when she wanted to go hang out w her friends for her bday even tho the world was ending VERY soon and they had to get going. yeah she wants to be a normal kid but rn theres more important things you gotta think about bbg (and yes i do understand that the dance or her bday hang out would help w morale but at least be on the look out for stuff and dont think that youre not still on the job and most likely putting every1 in danger..). save the world first, then enjoy your life. maybe take a cake to go while youre traveling. maybe call your besties and talk to them on the phone for an hour or whatever
carter wasnt perfect, but even his obsession w zia wasnt THAT bad. it felt more normal and smt the reader (or i) could get behind and not dislike him too much for.
(when carter said that i thought he was in my head cuz i was literally thinking that sadie always leaves him to deal w important stuff)
i feel like theres more i had to say but theres too much negativity in this post already LOL im sorry 😭 this trilogy wasnt a 0 or 1 star, it was closer to 2 or maybe even 3. i didnt mind ignoring most of these. the only thing i couldnt ignore was sadie's attitude sometimes and ofc the weird relationship between her and anubis, but when walt showed up etc i had hope and it did get slightly better!
ofc im not a writer and i couldnt prob never write anything half as good as any of rick's books, but this is just my experience as the reader. as i mightve mentioned , rn im reading the heroes of olympus books for the first time and im enjoying them quite a lot!
lmk if you agree or disagree w anything, i usually change my mind somewhat easily so id love to see this series from some1 else's pov

Ok we all unanimously agree that Genji is def a weeb and a gamer, since he does frequent arcades in his youth and gotten high scores on them.
But what about HANZO?
Some ppl might go like eh he’s terrible cus he has absolutely no experience or lack experience in gaming since he’s the oldest son and hEIR of the Shimada Family and is too busy to even indulge in any sort of “fun”. WHICH. Is a good and valid headcanon considering the kind of person he is.
I previously made a post abt reading this unfinished fic on secret gamer hanzo and honestly before reading that fic I would prob agree with this grp of ppl. But now Im aware that secret gamer hanzo is a thing and holy shit Im digging it.
Like ok it’s completely ridiculous to even have hanzo to NOT have some fun while he was young right? (Unless your parents are completely cold and seeing u as a tool which I hope and pray that the bros parents are not but lets not get into that) So I can visualise the shimada bros bonding over games while they were young and enjoying their childhood. They would be competitive af and also play like a number of multiplayer games, with genji being a lil shit dallying around whenever they co-op and hanzo just going can we PLEASE complete the damn objectives cus thats so them lol.
Kinda makes me wonder abt the kind of gamers they are. Thanks to that fic, it gave me the idea of hanzo being a speedrunner and thats. So. Good??????? That idea???? Like cmon hes a perfectionist and I can see him playing a game repeatedly just to get used to it and start timing himself on how fast he can beat it. Completing games 100% i feel would be more of genjis thing, since he seems the kind to prefer exploring and wandering every nook and cranny looking for interesting shit. Hanzo wont really care much for exploration, just winning in the quickest time possible, tho thats just me opinion.
I can see this fitting in the storyline, where genji and hanzo discover gaming and both bond over that shit. Genji would love to play all kinds of games of genres. Not sure what he would lean towards though i would presume fast paced action kind of games for the thrill and excitement (since he does play arcade and does extremely well). Genji plays games to have fun and a good time, def acts like a lil shit in multiplayer games like trolling in chat or trashtalking. He likely has tried almost every game at least once, no matter how obscure or ridiculous it is. Pretty good at party games too, from his time socialising (both sfw and nsfw kinds). After spending time with zen i can see him also taking a liking to the more relaxing chill games like animal crossing.
Meanwhile hanzo is a picky ass motherfucker with most of the games he plays. He def does play the classics/mainstream games, but hes in it to feel a sense of accomplishment (and superiority). It has to be good quality games with clear objectives to fulfil thats for sure or like games that are useful in exercising his intellect. More into rpgs, puzzles, strategies. Prefers single player cus people are annoying at times (and hold him back oof). Competitive af. Likely not as a natural gamer like genji, but makes it up for his insane hard work and dedication to improve his skills. I like to think that he and genji saw some a vid of sb speedrunning a game they are both into a lot and he got hooked. Is part of the speedrunning community for sure and keeps up to date with all the latest speedrunning strats.
Oh boi and imagine dva the resident gamer finding out abt the shimada bros. She will get genji to play with her at times and its a blast. Hanzo not as much cus hes an emotionally constipated fuck who doesnt know how to socialise, but hoo boi when hana makes him play a game he was experienced in and he gets into it, shes def gon drag genji and hanzo into her daily gaming streams, but mostly hanzo cus he needs more social interaction. I dunno. I mean I can see hana and hanzo bonding tgt very well. And also cus I want to see hana’s wtf face when hanzo pulls all the insane speedrunning strats, and also hana encouraging hanzo to actually work on getting some world record speedruns. That would be cool.
Yea imma sum up those thoughts up for now but like essentially gamer hanzo? Fuck yea

there was some artwork from someone on tublr..where they pointed out that he doesnt really talk outside the metaverse so--hes hyperverbal as joker and just near nonverbal as akiren
he stims ALL THE TIME. that phone thing, the pencil thing, the little tappy tap of his foot, pulling at his bangs when hes embarrassed/smug. someone get him a fidget spinner. he’ll prob learn to do tricks with it
he probably sucks at focusing in class, like i know its just the game design but hes always surprised out of his daily “star out the window at the nearby office building” when his teachers ask him questions
mona mentions when the pt is at Wilton for the first time (after they run into shido) that joker eats like shit, and that could have multiple causes at the start of the story of course, but when i first played i thought that joker was a picky eater and that the variety (and amount of food) at the buffet would be an Ordeal...
tho mona makes that comment bc joker looked pale after having a little ptsd moment from shidos voice, but i didnt know that the first time i played

he is still nice to people because he doesnt see a reason not to be, but also he has very limited energy so only his senpai and old people get his most polite-kindnesses
cannot describe feelings for the life of him. the team wont know hes injured or sick until hes passed out

It took me forever to locate your ask box lol. But anyway- Lanx! I say your habit for writings, especially your original stuff, is that you always find a way to fit in the supernatural and fantastical in some form without making it high fantasy. Not to mention the relationships you make.... Especially with Reluz and Braxous, I think you also have a habit of someone who is very soft being with someone who has a tough exterior or smth.

High Fantasy is a bit eh for me... matters on the author and the way its written but i am picky. Ig Ozoarth could be considered high fantasy? But it has a lot of genres within it and I would consider it more “grim dark” than anything. but not in a pussy way like GRRM who just puts a lot of incest and r*pe into it. idk how to explain it lol

He likes Satan much more than he thought he would, for the literal ruler of hell that dude's pretty chill- ....ok come on let's be honest here, you know as well as I have Louie has absolutely flirted with Satan once or twice, hell- he's flirted with MANY demons before- needless to say not uh many of em liked it which hey I mean its not the response he really wanted nor expected but pissing off a demon can be fun plus they can be REALLY violent ...he may or may not be a masochist and a bit of a sadist even?

q: how do you feel about collaborations?
i don’t have too much of an opinion on it, to be completely honest. im pretty particular about what i like reading though, so if their writing styles differ too much i won’t be able to enjoy it really.
with that being said, i give lots of props to those who actually collab w others bc im so picky abt my writing and have extremely specific ideas and if details aren’t described exactly how i imagined it in my head it causes me so much anxiety and distaste for it and askfhaskjfhasfkja. so it must really be difficult and i rly respect those are able to achieve that type of teamwork i could never tbh
r: are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?
the first writer that comes to mind is tahereh mafi. i know her style is def not for everyone and neither is mine so sajkfhaskjf. feelinggenious on wattpad actually wrote a post about why they don’t like her style and expressed the reason being is that its “written in a chaotic, hallucinating-ish, journal style that’s oozing and overflowing of metaphors” and that ppl may find its a “lump of metaphors and horrid imagery” n binch thats exactly why i aspire to be on her level someday asfjhsfjhasfk. but i love it so much tho!! and thats exactly how i would want mine to be described as tbh
another person that stands out is tabitha suzuma. i’ve only read one book by her, but i remember ppl on goodreads reviewing it and saying its like 418 pages of poetry. she brings out so so so much emotion and all of her characters (even the younger children) are so three dimensional and they honestly felt like real people to me. the story is so so traumatic and hard to read, but i, at least, went thru so so so many strong emotions and sadness and happiness throughout the entire book. not many writers can do that to me and i admire her so so so so much. she took an extremely taboo subject and made it so you actually feel for the characters involved. i wont mention the book due to reasons but if anyone is interested u can message me or w/e!!
and lastly, i mention her literally every moment of my life and she really is my biggest muse ??? i guess but its nicole dollanganger. she a songwriter which is technically a writer so i think she counts. not many ppl have heard of her bc she basically just came from bandcamp. but she’s been described as being like lana del rey but with way scarier and more horrific lyrics. i listen to a lot of her songs when i write to keep me going tbh. but i wouldnt rec her music to anyone who can be triggered by v*ol*nce and etc!! so keep that in mind

im honestly really happy for 銀河 bc they really went out of their box and tried something new and the arrangement was turned out really cool, good for fsc
but theres just something about their performance that feels off... besides the voice crack, it felt like xu yang was rushing? which is big issue for percussionists esp if he and fsc are supposed to be keeping the beat together... maybe im just not used to what electric cello should sound like but pengpeng’s tone sounded scratchy to me again and i feel like he doesnt pay enough attention to the way he ends his strokes? and am i just hallucinating or is their mixing off again bc i just feel like i hardly hear zjy... again. but id love to listen to a studio version of this song bc i think itd solve those issues and the song itself is nice.

oh i wasnt the only one who thought xu yang was rushing but yea he looked really into the perf and really excited and thats great to see hes really happy on stage but he also has to keep himself calm enough to keep the beat
oookayyy theres also something off with the tempo in 午睡’s performance and maybe im just being too picky but it really threw me off when they transitioned from bjg to ljt in that first chorus. i think it was the guitar entering too early? i cant tell if i should be more picky towards jym’s drumming bc when there’s rushing i usually go straight to the person whos holding the beat, and he should be the one keeping them together, but if someone else is rushing im glad he was able to keep up to at least rush as one group...lol. but i am glad that they were able to incorporate muji’s sound pretty well in this type of song, i was a little worried about that at first. tbh i dont think ljt and bjg’s voices match really well LOL awkward. and also awkward that they didnt let ljt play guitar too? like hes just jamming out on air while bjg is singing. idk maybe its an optics preference but i just find it awkward.
i appreciate that ljt has really found a home in his group that can make him feel comforted. the way bjg was saying that ljt felt insecure on his own at the front but then comforted when he turned around and saw his group members behind him. that just makes me think of how lonely he must have been these last few years on his own.
i appreciate that they have dada making sure to call out each member so they have time to talk during this live broadcast

AWWW seeing xiao zhi complimenting qiang ge’s suo na playing and then qiang ge being all modest like “i can accept this” AW i love them and i love how supportive xiao zhi is and how qiang ge can be proud of himself.
i just love how fun fruit planet it. im just so happy to see that xiao wu really helped pull yrz and qiang ge out of their shells! actually all of them really looked like they were having such fun and i think xiao wu has a part in this. i really like how fruit planet has a running theme of happiness but also simplicity. their music’s sound has a simplicity to it that makes it sound easy-going and fun. not that the music itself is simple, but its just not overbearing and has enough pause and clarity that there are breaks in the song where you can see through the layers of sound and i appreciate that.
wow i dont remember yrz ever singing this strongly before. i think yrz and xiao wu’s singing both fit well, both have different edges of fun and freedom. and im grateful they used the suo na as a highlight bc it adds an important touch but wasnt overwhelming.

Loving the ESFJ in your life
So half of this is stolen from my previous posts but I wanted to compile it all for you so, here are some ways to understand an love your ESFJ friends (and mums). I intend to keep adding to it over time and please feel free to do the same via reblog or submission.
Attracting an ESFJ
1. Hello tradition and manners. We like them, we are not as picky as other SJ’s but don’t be fooled, manners go a long way in our books. If you are a guy trying to impress a girl this is key. Open the door, make the first move, treat her like a lady (without being patronizing), we won’t go hard core feminist on you (most of the time… maybe for a joke sometimes) But we really do find those things touching. Alternatively if you are a girl, LET HIM do that stuff. If you open the door for him or try turning his polite act around on him he will most likely just feel deflated and awkward. Its how we show we care. Srs tho. Chivalry is life.
2. Inside Jokes. Gotta love inside jokes. Something thats ours, in our little bubble. Something thats just you and them, that you mention casually and the little things you do to reference those inside jokes. And DON’T leave them out of other inside jokes, if you have them with other people, don’t reference them and then not explain, we hateeee to be left out.
3. People, people, people. People matter! Talk to them about your life, their life, good news you heard about a mate. Let them talk about their mates, their day, and don’t assume its gossip, we just like talking about people. We like to talk and it can be annoying but often we talk cause no one else will, but we like listening too. Nothings worse than feeling like you’re the only one talking.
4. Tell them little things about yourself, stupid little things. Silly little stories from your childhood, a little moment you had the other week. We love it, and it makes us feel a little closer to you. And if you can, remember the little things we tell you about us. Nothing means more. Little gifts that mean a lot, little moments of laughter, we do like to stop and smell the roses, to enjoy those little things. So let us.
5. Attention. We do like attention. Doesn’t everyone? Message us first, do little things like pay extra attention to us in a group, make time to see us. Don’t do that “cool-guy” thing where you ignore us and chat to all your friends to try and be mysterious and alluring or WHATEVER. Its not attractive and you’ll probs hurt our feelings and have us questioning everything.
6. Okay this seems obvious but never, ever, ever leave a conversation without properly saying goodbye. I’ve noticed a lot of people do this and for some bizarre reason think its okay to stop talking when the conversation drifts off.This. Kills. Our. Soul. Just please dear god never do that. It just makes us question what we’ve said to drive you off. But this is more general than just ESFJ’s.
7. We do like to be touched. On the arm, hand, joking pat on the head, a quick hug (if appropriate). Seems weird… don’t force it too much (and don’t overdo it :P), but its true. A little touch on the arm can mean a lot. Or a consensual cuddle.
8. Use your damn face. Show emotion for goodness sakes. If you are listening NOD YOUR HEAD, hold their eyes, smile, show emotion on your face. INTJ’s can be soooo hard to deal with because they show like no emotion and i ALWAYS worry i am boring them to DEATH and so i just stop talking. Show emotion.
9. Show us how you feel. duh. We wanna know and if you don’t give us some indication our insecurity will kill your chances. Not even just how you feel about us. Show us how you feel about everything as you go along. #Fe
10. (Gotta be cliche) Be yourself. We are generally pretty accepting of everyone but being some fake robotic person will not get you far
Ways to Avoid hurting an ESFJ
1. They are not stupid. Never patronize an ESFJ. Sometimes we come across as childish, immature or incapable of deeper thought… but its just because we like to laugh and unwind by being playful. We do not enjoy the potential angst that serious topics can create and thus avoid them at times. We are often down for a deeper conversation though, if the opportunity arises.
2. They are affected by your emotions, even if they don’t show it. Every frown has us worried, every smile brings us joy. We can’t help it and sometimes we hate it. But the Fe emotions do fluctuate a lot depending on its environment.
3. They are sensitive. Be careful with playful humor that may hurt them. But don’t tip-toe around them either as we hate it when people treat us like babies. Be sensitive, but not patronizing.
4. Never insult the people they love. ESFJs, like all, will react to this. But they are likely to be a lot more aggressive as they can be a bit like mums.
5. YOU ARE DIFFERENT (unless you’re an ESFJ). Remember that. You think and feel differently. Don’t try and understand. Just accept.
6. Don’t ever tell them they are “too much”. Never tell them to worry less, be less complimentary, be less talkative or call us annoying for doing these things. That hurts more than anything as that is a big part of how we show love.
7. Don’t call them a gossip or nosy for caring about people. Sometimes we gossip yes, and call us out for sure. BUT sometimes we care about people and we don’t know how to deal with them, or we are having a hard time and we just need to talk it through because of our Fe. The worst thing you could do is call it gossiping as that is NOT our heart behind it.
Helping a stressed ESFJ
Love them. Be there for them. Don’t try and “fix” or “solve” their problems unless they give you signs that they want you to, or its something small like making a meal. ESFJ’s are SJ’s and they have a way they like to do things, but their Fe will mean they won’t really tell you if you’re doing it wrong because they’ll be touched you’re trying to help… but you might make it worse. So be careful. More just try and be there to talk, to be present, to be understanding when they need help. Things like a meal, or some chocolate, or something like giving them a lift or whatever (something that there’s no way to mess up basically) can be super nice and really appreciated. Mostly as the love they will feel from that will help more than anything. A cuddle r hug or chat does some wondrous things. But also, space if they need. Exroverts need “me time” too. You have to judge it on a case-by-case basis, every ESFJ is different and reacts slightly differently.
Showing love for an ESFJ
1. We overthink things a lot, so soothing those thoughts is always very helpful.. and please don’t give us reasons to overthink. Be straight up, and honest. This is such a key.
2. Let us love you. We love to love. People love to love. So let us love you how we love you. By being an annoying mum friend or telling you off about not sleeping enough. By bringing you chocolate or by trying to talk to you about whats going on. We love as best we can and sometimes all you need to do is let us.
3. We love how we want to be loved, so pay attention. If you want to take care of your ESFJ, pay attention to how they love and take care of you.
4. We like to talk. A lot. We talk too much. We are very chatty. Let us be. Let us talk and talk back as well. We don’t want to talk AT you. We want to talk with you. So talk.
I know a lot of these things all seem very general and like they might apply to all types. In a way, they do. BUT theses are the BEST for ESFJ’s. Good for others, and other things are also good for ESFJs… But I think these are the best things you can do. Love you alll heaps. Thanks for your support
