Also me: Relising the Last Wish gave us a cheat to kill off characters. And now I'm writing two deaths in the first two chapters and boy am I gonna have a blast killing and torturing characters like crazy.

Good morning what are the movies or tv shows that traumatized you as a kid mine are the BBC production of A Christmas Carol and a handful of David Suchet Poirot episodes

#my dad always thought if something was well done it was appropriate for children #so we never watched the silly little kid version of things. The muppet Christmas Carol? My dad would N E V E R #anyway a Christmas Carol ruined Christmas for me for YEARS #i hated to think about it #and poirot was just. traumatizing #there’s one called murder on the links which involved a golf course at night which is one of the most terrifying locations I can imagine #also there’s one called death in the clouds #and poirot uncovers the murder because there are two spoons on the dead lady’s tray of airplane food #and the way he says ‘he picks up a spoon giving him the task of a waiter to carry out’#when explaining the murder at the end to this DAY sends chills up my spine #I know this is very obvious but the thing about fear is that it isn’t about logic or reason but it is about revelation #it’s like the flip side of moments of good and happy insight #at least for me #what terrifies me is a moment where some kind of evil is revealed in a blinding FLASH #a motive or (I guess) a ghost #and there is this presence of some malevolent entity underneath the reality of things #and something about it being SEEN almost more than it existing #is so scary. Like I.#Poirot uncovering the murder and describing it with such studied fascinated careful attention #pulling back the layers of a blind of one kind or another #shakes me to. my. CORE.#and it’s all so visual and instinctive. it’s one tiny little moment that doesn’t fit suddenly pulling back the curtain of reality #with such terrifying abruptness #makes me want to sit down and cry like a baby #the knowledge of evil doesn’t scare me. as in it doesn’t elicit an emotional/physical reaction of fear #but seeing it in embodied action. again. where it’s some tiny ordinary little detail suddenly ripping reality as you know it to shreds #the surprise of it. the recalibration it demands #I !!!!!!!!! Get so afraid

When you idly think about Celegorm possibly being most like Nerdanel of all the sons of Feanor, and then you start thinking about Nerdanel getting a post-Darkening moral decay arc all of her own to mirror her son(s)'s.

#tolkien #san shoots the breeze #Like. My central celegorm thesis is that he becomes what he becomes because he has a specific moral/social worldview #that is actually heavily based on 1) common cultural understanding of said worldview and 2) direct positive intervention from the valar #like he is an acolyte of a specific god and that goes with specific rights and responsibilities for everyone involved #and once the noldor arrive in beleriand that specific framework *collapses*#because the valar can't be fucked and the amanyar don't have the same religious&cultural expectations #so he upholds his end of the bargain as long as he can (both emotionally and materially)#but when it all collapses (structural damage from what happened to ardehel #and then complete collapse from the bragollach) he breaks HARD #and I think there's space for something similar with Nerdanel #who was likely raised in fairly close contact with aule and who stays faithful to the valar as feanor starts to go off the rails #who makes all the 'right' choices! and her reward is the obliteration of her family #and quite likely at least some degree of social ostracization for her association with her husband and children #not sure what her final straw would be though #...possibly it could be celebrimbor's capture and death actually. hm.#Anyway! I just think Nerdanel should be viciously violently angry with basically everyone for at LEAST a century but likely longer

Cassidy and Evan hating Charlie while she only wants the best for them makes me sad kinda. sorta. just a bit.

“Because she thought you might be able to help.” Because it takes darkness to understand darkness.

She sounded heartbroken when she spoke again. “Why me? Why can’t you people just leave me alone?”

And if you look on your right, you’ll see the Luidaeg realizing before anyone else in this book that this will end in her baby brother’s death, and she will help her niece do it, because once Toby got herself involved there was no other way for it to end.

fate is, for the most part, a good arthurian adaptation, but somehow fgo manages to be so godawful when it comes to everything round table that it single-handedly manages to cancel that out and make fate as a whole a kinda bad adaptation

#the complete and utter misunderstanding of everything and everyone involved is shocking #gawain in extra is a villain and thus doesn't get much deep exploration but still. it's all bc he's deeply chivalrous and loyal above all #which is in line with his medieval counterpart!! and while i'm still a little bit bitter he's not rider class and wish he had a bit more #influence from certain arthurian traditions. it's understandable that japanese speakers wouldn't have access to most arthurian texts #(as translations of medieval arthurian literature into a language like /english/ are already sorely lacking)#but i can just hold out for a hypothetical walewein (berserker) to show up karl der große/charlemagne style #extra gawain is fine. he serves his purpose and doesnt directly contradict his medieval characterization. his sun powers are even included!#and then in fgo he kills his brother which is. medieval gawain is defined by being a little bit mad about family.#he quite literally causes THE FALL OF CAMELOT bc lancelot (who he's said to love more than anyone) accidentally kills his brothers #and gawain becomes obsessed with revenge. forces arthur into a war against lancelot. and then he dies (how depends on the text)#medieval gawain is willing to forgive the death of his own mother (who is someone i have strong feelings about. don't worry) bc his brother #was the one behind it. in What world would he be willing to kill gaheris!!!#agravain is. eugh. medieval agravain is beautiful. chivalrous and charismatic. he also has a bit of a complex surrounding being compared to #his brother gaheris which manifests as an obsessive desire to kill and (essentially) replace him.#and. while he does a lot of other scheming. largely in regards to lancelot who he's also a little bit obsessed with.#it's also important that he thinks that everything he does not in regards to gaheris is good and right and will save camelot #fate agravain is an evil royal advisor from a children's cartoon. which sucks bc he could easily be a delightfully complex villain #or even a tragic hero if he was actually in-line with his medieval self #no notes on mordred or artoria. whether that's bc they were already well-established enough in other installments to not get butchered #or if i just forgot bc i like to try and mentally block out fgo on most days is 50/50 #morgan i try to block out but the conflation of her with her sister morgause and both ladies of the lake is. rlly bad.#bc she's a good portrayal of morgan but a horrible portrayal of the other three #it leaves vivvianne and nimue sorely underutilized. and as for morgause it's just. morgan could have still evilly influenced mordred if he #was her nephew and. on top of being boring and unoriginal. and messing up the timeline of artoria's rule. it eliminates morgause as a #possible character in fate. which sucks bc she's fascinating in medieval texts.#and as for tristan and bedivere. they aren't atrociously bad or anything they're just underutilized. if you're going to summon a bunch of #round table servants at once and pit them all against bedivere there's absolutely no reason not to include kei.esp considering how likely #it'd be for him to side with his little sister no matter what and the fact that they're Always mentioned in tandem with each other #and tristan should've had a madness enhancement bc love potion. he should only be able to think clearly if isolde is there as well.#but those are less criticisms of what the text did than criticisms of what the text Could have easily done so like i said.

Saw Elemental and enjoyed it a lot more than the trailer suggested I would. I should have remembered that Pixar's marketing is/always has been terrible and their movies are always more nuanced than it makes them appear.

It did leave me with a lot of questions about the...physics? Biology? Of the various elements, but other than that, it was a neatly packaged, touching little story. Probably won't rewatch it, but I'd still recommend it if you've got a free space on your "to watch list."

#elemental #world building questions include: how are murders investigated #when death for the elements seems to involve the disappearance of their bodies?#tree people being the only exception #unless they're killed by a fire person i guess #and speaking of fire people I'm trying to understand the wheelchair one #i know why they were there from a representation perspective #but it was shown multiple times that fire people can repair any injury to themselves by eating wood #so what could cause them to be disabled?#also i know elements don't mix is a metaphor for racism but I don't know that it works as well in a universe #where some elements can actually kill or injure each other with proximity #'we changed each other's chemistry' would not apply for a fire/tree pairing #i mean i guess the fire person would change the tree person to carbon #anyway that's enough of me overanalyzing a children's movie for today

thinking about my immortal ocs and their fun family drama 🥰

#technically they exist in the same universe as livvy's canon #their names are nessa and angus and theyre old as balls #like angus forgets how he got his immortality but he resents it a lot #man is like 10s of thousands of years old. and the human mind is straight up not built to last that long #a lot of the time it seems like hes just got pretty bad dementia but. sometimes that involves him screaming out in long dead languages #or forgetting what century hes in #nessa is much younger in comparison #she was born and raised in the dustbowl during the great depression #she has a little sister who is now almost 90 years old and set up in a comfy assisted living community that nessa visits often #she begged for her sister to do the immortality thing with her years and years ago but her sister adamantly refused #the idea of outliving her husband and their children and grandchildren was just. not smth she could handle #so nessa begrudgingly accepted that #angus found nessa as a gangly 13 y/o runaway and took her in #he was VERY against the idea of her being immortal and refused to talk to her for over a year when she went through #the Change without telling him #eventually he forgot why he was angry at her in the first place 🙃#but yeah nessa is v much team 'death is for suckers there is SO MUCH i want to see and do still'#she looks maybe 30 and is thriving #she hired a 19 y/o caregiver to look out for angus and severely underestimates that caregiver in terms of Knowing angus is immortal #she just told her that angus is a historian with dementia and thats why sometimes he gets upset when he finds hes in present day LA #and not in viking era greenland #but the caregiver is like 🤨

tdlr: she's my 20 year old retired child-assassin, currently a kinoto demon slayer and who is rengokus love interest in my brain bc he deserves it (and so does she)

not so tldr: i have literally a whole google docs form on her breathing style/forms and some of her backstory i was able to put into words. like with my bnha oc (whom i also love dearly), ive been trying to flesh out backstories and what not more to make them really feel good since i have no art skills to actually make her tangible LOL

her breathing style is Nature Breathing (im not very creative im so sorry) and she has breathing 6 forms (and maybe a 7th secret one? i haven't decided yet but it's a kinda last resort kinda play lol). she was found by the Ruka (rengokus mother) when she was 13 and was taken care of by them before she decided to leave the estate in her later teens (for spicy trauma reasons)

to get a better feel for her, i have this wonderful sketch sheet my lovely friend @erexart did for me last year as well that im still so in love with

her uniform is actually very altered, but since the only reference i have of it being my cosplay of her i did, just know she has her tits out (like misturi) and her uniform has no sleeves (like uzui). her haori is pink and covered in flowers! she also has a stab wound scar that never really faded on her stomach from her childhood (more spicy trauma)

i wont get too much more into her but bY GOD COULD I my google docs is crazy detailed so im trying so hard not to info dump

#i didn't want to write a lot but i also kept adding words i am so sorry LMAO #im very passionate about her #and ofc i have like canon/noncanon/canon-divergent #but for the most part her role is rengokus partner/romance and in her timeline he survives bc she gets involved in the mugen train #and since akaza has that rule with women and children she is his get out of death free card

Vulcans can be a little silly around their partners as a treat. Tuvok is half-napping on the couch and T’Pel keeps tugging for his attention through their bond so he looks and she just sends him a feeling of satisfaction at being able to see his face. He turns away to be obstinate and in response T’Pel sends him a faux deep sorrow, sighs heavily. He turns back around with faux annoyance and she’s moved much closer. She presses their foreheads together and they share an internal ‘laugh’. If anyone that isn’t their children seems like they might be coming in they’re gonna scatter to opposite sides of the room.

#Tuvok/T'Pel #I think the silliness is perhaps a bit lower key when its two Vulcans but its still silly and lovey #I also headcanon that Vulcans do emote more around their families but its considered VERY uhh...rude? comfortable? idk the word but like #I think Vulcans have a complex system of what is polite and what isn't and it has a lot of factors #For example Tuvok's children would be fine bickering and emoting more around each other but in front of their grandparents they wouldn't #not bc they'd be uncomfortable but bc it would be disrespectful to act like that #also no matter what its nowhere near the level of human emoting - that'd be wild to a Vulcan to see another Vulcan act that way #I also think Vulcans have different ways of emoting that humans wouldn't necessarily understand #Random Vulcan kids get in a fight and eventually just start clicking their tongues and gesturing and hissing out half-words #I wonder what Vulcan flirting is like too...like what makes Vulcans go 'she LIKES YOU'#bc I think some Vulcans do date as children/teens but its not really considered something that'll last since most are betrothed #Vulcan A: You are still romantically involved with T'Ohan am I correct?#Vulcan B: Yes.#Vulcan A: I assume pon farr is approaching. Have you decided whether or not you intend to fight her promised lover to the death?#Vulcan B: -sighs- No. Honestly I am hoping my pon farr arrives before hers so she may fight mine instead.#Vulcan A: A foolish plan but I understand the impulse. v_v #this really spiraled but oh well
