TGAA 2 Spoilers for You Know Who

In which Gina & Kazuma learn a new word, and Kazuma makes a new resolution.

Panel 1-1: Kazuma stands between Gina & Iris (who are both seated), holding a dictionary. He & Gina wear mildly confused expressions as they stare at the dictionary. Gina is petting Toby, who sits atop Barok's desk, which can be see in the bottom left foreground. Iris points at the dictionary as she says, "See, it's right here: 'defenestrate.'"

Panel 1-2: Kazuma, Gina, Iris, & Toby are situated as in the first panel. Kazuma has brought the dictionary up to look at in better. Kazuma: Okay, but why does your language have a word specifically for throwing something out a window? Gina, scowling: Why the bloody Nora would I know that? Iris, smiling eagerly: Because it's fun to use in a sentence!

Panel 2-1: The angle has shifted to a side view of Barok's desk. He is seated at his desk (to the left side of the panel) while Iris & Gina are seated in chairs on the other side & Kazuma stands between them, still holding the dictionary. Barok is writing some kind of document. Gina points at Barok and says, "'Ey van Zieks, ever wanted to defenestrate something?"

Panel 2-2: The same posing as in the first panel. Barok, deadpan: Only my apprentice almost every day for the last year. Why? Gina, Kazuma, & Iris all wear surprised expressions.

Panel 3-1: A close-up of Barok and Kazuma. Kazuma, his fist raised to his lips, looking off to the side: Only almost every day? Clearly, I'm not doing something right if you don't want to defenestrate me every day. Barok, scowling: That is absolutely NOT the point.

Panel 3-2: Kazuma, slamming his right fist down onto his left hand, smirking: No, I feel like I've been issued a challenge here. Barok, pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation: Why are you like this?

I think it’s kinda Thematically Interesting how TGAA2 at first hyped up Prosecutor Asogi as, like, ‘ohhh watch out!! This guy was already a qualified defense attorney! He knows how to use the Defense’s tactics in favor of the Prosecution!’. And, like, yeah, that is a strength Kazuma demonstrated throughout the trial….

But he also ended up facing a lot of the challenges that an AA Defense Attorney usually has to face.

Like, having a culprit confess to their wrongdoing to you in private

And then being unable to prove this confession ever happened in Court.

That’s what happened to Kazuma in this trial, but it also happened to Phoenix and the rest of the AA crew countless times before.

Or just generally, like, knowing that the case you’re working on now is deeply related to finally solving a previous case from X Years Ago... But to actually peruse investigating it, you need to somehow convince the rival legal counsel to somehow see that connection and trust you that there is a connection - even if you can’t prove it until further down the line. And you can't prove it unless you can get them to trust you....

That’s a pretty common trope for AA Final cases but.... one that Ace Attorney players usually experience only from their side.

But this time, it's the Prosecutor is the one faced with the challenge of proving the connection between the past and present cases. And the Defense, and the Player, are faced with the challenge that the Prosecutor usually faces - the challenge of trusting their rival and their new line of inquiry.

Prosecutor Kazuma is not just a demonstration of how the Defense’s tactics and tricks look from the perspective of their rivals - he also demonstrates how the challenges of the Defense feel from the other side of the bench.

tgaa2-3 the return of the great departed soul is such a standout case for all the best reasons. it literally has something for everyone. the drebber girls. the harebrayne girls. the milf lovers. there's old friends reuniting, there's enemies living under the same roof. there are masked amnesiacs and the unearthing of a long-forgotten conspiracy. at one moment they go into barok's office and roast the living shit out of him. there's a little bohemian boy who likes balloons. it's a case 3 that doesn't suck ass. it's glorious.
