Advice on how to enjoy Jayce outside of Arcane? I don't even like Arcane... But it seems no one remembers he exists outside of that for a decade previously

Im gonna be playing a bit of a bummer role here but........ Jayce focused stuff in fandom is very few and far inbetween. My advice is to curate your tl/dashboard/wherever to include the least amount of stress related to that subject, and if you feel like browsing the character tags is only making your outlook worse, give it a break. (Alternatively: when you do find something you enjoy, let the creator know about it! A comment or compliment goes a long way in terms of encouraging people and that's how you build a niche.)

There used to be a few more league jayce fanwork creators around but I've noticed a sharp decline and migration event since arcane, which isn't rly something I can do much about now nor can I fault them for it 🤷‍♂️

I tend to stick to myself or talk to the same 3ish people that understand what I like, and I'm pretty self-sufficient in that way; the most fun I have is coming up with story or AU concepts that I then throw in gdocs or scribble out on a canvas, and sometimes, if they're legible, I'll share them here for other people. I highly encourage everyone to try their own hand at hyperspecific interest crossovers or comparisons or silly fanart or bulletpoint AU fics that exist for your benefit prior to anybody else's. I'm a creator, and this is the main way I enjoy things. It may be different for you, but I think it's worth giving a shot! I believe the more of something you put out in the world the more it has a chance to take root and give back, but it has to start somewhere.

If reccomendations are what you seek, I can offer [ my fanfic bookmarks ] which contain a lot of jayce-focused works, and you can click on each individual author to browse a few more! (There are others, trust me.)

If you need starting places, try Dialectics and Reflectives or Total Organ Failure -- they set a really nice scene.

In terms of a bit more obscure but very enjoyable fanwork, heres an archive of og lore viktor/jayce art by Kyrrys, including a whole comic

Artist research

Glenn Ligon

Born in 1960 Ligon is an American conceptual artist whose work explored topics such as sexuality, race, identity and others like theses. The artist is known for their textbases pieces created using hand-created stencilled paintings.

On first look at the artist's work, I was initially drawn in and felt a sense of connection with his text piece. I use a lot of text and different text compositions within my work and am interested in other artists that conceptually use text to portray their conceptual ideas. Ligons work was unknown to me till I started to look for artist research and I see a lot of similarities in our work from text to colour palette. A couple of works that stood out to me were Self-portrait, 2020 and Draft (2010).

I resonate and find a connection to this work currently as I'm using myself as the subject or the starting point of most of my developmental work. I think the use of self in an artwork creates a sense of familiarity and humanity in an art piece. What interests me about the piece is the sadness/anger that it conveys to me its deliberate that the face has been redacted and that gives the work a sense of the artist hiding and the sadness of a portrait being faceless or the anger of it being removed. I identify with this from a practice point of view I enjoy the human nature that being in your work portrays but also hate seeing myself within my art I would rather be faceless to disconnect the artist and the artwork.

The text-based nature of this artwork is what drew me to it. The letters are random and as far as I can tell don't read anything however, I'm sure there is some hidden meaning to the work. Although the artwork seems simple it is a temple process and one that I would like to explore. The bleeding of the letters and the differences in opacity. This draws the viewer's eyes around the piece and through this I find myself getting lost and wandering around all the letters and shadows.

#thehumanbeings production line has slowed but not yet halted. Fodder aplenty, not least at the moment the vogue on social media and in society to “celebrate” depression. Creative energy, stagnating, is prone to produce many aberrations, including the propensity for ascribing to oneself by reverse projection the memetic trending mental health fashions of the age. This process is itself, to me, art. Life imitating life, or maybe death? Either way, #thehumanbeings excel at creating something, anything, to satisfy their need to want.

Hence my humble meme. Tracking the outpouring on Facebook, often confessional, by those “depressed” (a number of whom no doubt are clinically afflicted) I took it upon myself to flag up my wellness. If I am not somehow sick, how else do I fit in?

I am rambling a lot in this post. If you see this because I tagged you, I just wanna tell you that you and your art, be it writing or drawing, is amazing so you don’t have to read through this entire thing.

Text on the pic:

AO3 is kind of reserved for the main parts of my AU

The prologue for the blog is there though

And parts of the story that happen before BtB

Tob was supposed to be only on tumblr

Which is why the Tob blog has it’s own Mod who is modeled after my sticksona while The Alteration blog has a mod that’s modeled after the character I always use for my pfps (on every site I am on)

Wattpad is just very convenient in that I can easily put the pictures and asks into the chapters. On AO3 I don’t know how to include pictures and I kind of feel like it just doesn’t belong on AO3. Tob is part of the AU but it works completely different because it relys not only on me being in the mood to write but also on you guys sending in asks.

Maybe I’ll write a ‘normal’ fanfiction about it after the story of the blog is complete (Which will probably be three acts in total while the main ‘The Alteration’ story will have four or five)

The timelines of ‘Traitor on board’ and ‘The end of Triple Threat’ / ‘???’ also differ in the main cast. TeoTT is all about Henry, Charles and Ellie with Sven, Burt and Earrings just being side characters with relatively small roles. In Tob it is basically the other way around.

In enjoy both storylines a lot and I’m glad that the Henry Stickmin-Multiverse allows for both to be ‘canon’ at the same time, but I still want to keep them separated as much as I can. Having them on two different websites helps a lot with that.

TeoTT was supposed to be an askblog at first too, because I got inspired to create it by the amazing @ending-the-cycle-ask, but I didn’t dare try it because I knew my drawing skills weren’t even close to Mod Mellos’ so I didn’t think I would get any asks.

But after starting to publish the story on AO3 I discovered that there are a lot of textbased askblogs that are very successful and fun to follow, like @ask-crashed-copperright and @run-away-toppats. I actually kind of hoped some of the askers from those blogs would come over here because I really enjoyed the parts where the anons were just messing with Reginald and the askers, and other anons, defended him. I really like the roleplay they had and have going on.

So I thought of other paths of CtM that I could explore with my AU since I only went down the TT-Route so far. Which is one of my favorites but it has to share that place with VH so here we are, in space, with leader Sven.

Even if crashed copperright and run away toppats gave me more confidence that this could work I still didn’t expect much out of this. I didn’t expect to get this many followers, even if it is a puny little number compared to other blogs, it’s a big one for me.

I’m really excited to show you guys all the things I have planned for the story of Tob and all my headcanons about the characters.

The Henry Stickmin fandom is unlike any other fandom I’ve been in so far, I’ve never seen this many different headcanons about the same characters and I also enjoy the ones that a lot of people stick with, like Sven loving sharks and Henry being selectively mute.

I love the different versions of Burt I’ve seen so far. If I had to rank them I couldn’t because they’re all great in their own way and storys. I love @azuri-the-imperfect-artist ‘His translator’ story, as well as yandere Charles, Hanahaki Stickvin, the innocent henry and the cursed BF AU for FNF. @jazzystarrlight is definitely my favorite artist and writer when it comes to curtisson and the T3nsion comic about Stickvin is just really cool too. @ask-burt-curtis-and-others has one of the best backstorys for Burt I’ve seen so far (Plus Dawn is another amazing artist and I still have to read ‘We’ve been here before’)

There are so many different things in this fandom and it’s probably not the only fandom that has this much different fancontent but I never had so much fun exploring all of it. I haven’t even encountered any ships I don’t like. I’ve just come to enjoy almost all of them.

Wattpad, tumblr and AO3 all have so much amazing content for this fandom and I want to contribute to all of them.

So Tob is mainly for tumblr.

And TeoTT / ??? is mainly for AO3

But they’ll probably both end up being on Wattpad too just because I like that you can add covers and illustrations to your storys.

Welcome onlookers, to:

The Inkwell Paradox

After (over)analyzing the Cuphead storyline with 3 different approaches last month, I’ll now move on to the Jiaqiverse Cuphead fancanon\fanfic:

A space-time odyssey, falsidical paradoxes, magic vs. science; all these raising thoughts to scenarios similar to Neo knocking over the flower vase after the Oracle pointed it out and further. Gee, talk about a way too serious approach with fanfic!

I have made some posts in the form of Devil’s diary transcript already on the-textbased-jiaqiverse, and a lot more is planned to come in a non-chronological, kinda messy fashion, I feel like I want to highlight some parts I really enjoyed imagining/writing.

Like the Devil x KD dynamic:

Did you know Devil was “banished”, “casted down” to this universe, landing on a part its residents would call “Inkwell” after he got into major trouble with the Court? (It was to the extend that the Court would like him to be annihilated, to be expanded on someday in the future)

Did you know at KD and Devil’s first meeting, in a blink of the eye, time “skipped” about 6 hours from Devil’s perspective? And in that blink of the eye, Devil felt his life was going to be in danger, and that event would be somehow linked to KD (a stranger he’d just met at this point), but couldn’t specifically pinpoint how? Needless to say he freaked out

Did you know shortly after being acquainted with KD, Devil learnt a song written specifically to mock KD? A literal diss track he finds catchy and shared/sang straight to KD’s face, meanwhile gradually realizing “the six-faced freak” was probably supposed to be KD (the “photosynthesis” song)!

KD did remind Devil of what he’s done wrong in the past and Devil wanted to leave Inkwell and fix things. At that point Devil was tricked into gathering money for someone promising to build/commission something to get him home, he unknowingly hurt KD in that process which he greatly regretted

There were 2 to 3 years KD spent as a pretty influential regent of Sugarland (alternative reality/AU) for Princess Erony Taffy (a relative of Baroness von Bon Bon’s). Devil joked that if KD was an actual king, addressing him formally would get interesting (King King Dice, something like that)

Devil’s trident is a gadget made by KD for him to in a way regain his magic, and within their time in this AU Devil learned to shapeshift on command, KD paired the trident with his mind and shapeshifting abilities so from then on it shapeshifted alone with Devil and can turn into any weapon Devil wanted

After Erony literally backstabbed KD, Devil started weeping holding KD, weeping like he’d never wept before, believing he had lost him

Did you know after that KD and Devil journeyed to yet another AU and became celebrities? Here they became professional musicians by accident (just like how this idea hit me by accident, becoming singers was not their main goal being there)

Did you know they started a romantic relationship before they went viral, but this remained secret at that moment as them being gay was met with quite some resistance here? (in this AU the strongest resistance they’d meet) Their relationship lasted despite this tho

Did you know after a thankfully peaceful retirement from their musical career they ended up chasing a major lead to another new, very magical AU? Where they had to destroy a foreign gem in Cala Maria’s possession and where they bumped into Dr. Kahl, who promptly fled upon seeing them?

People of this AU were generally pretty open-minded and they were free to just openly flirt and more

After going after Dr. Kahl and his alliance of scientists from “infinite Inkwell”—short for a gathering of scientists from a seemingly “infinite” amount of Inkwell AUs—Devil almost died trying to protect KD (that’s why Devil foresaw the danger to his life was linked to KD at their first meeting)

Did you know Devil told KD “there’s a beautiful sparkle in your eyes”(yeah Devil is THAT cheesy sometimes) when he was dying and KD was desperately keeping him alive?

Dr. Kahl was time traveling all this time, lastly landing back at the AU where Devil and KD were celebs, where the KD from that moment of time confronted him and ended his idea of “ripping a hole through space-time to explore the unknown”, which would ultimately just destroy the entirety of this Inkwell “multiverse” along with everyone there if carried out!

KD nurtured Devil back to health

John and James, advanced AI’s constructed by KD reacted to witnessing an affectionate kiss shared between KD and Devil by saying “well, this is no surprise, we saw that coming long ago”

Devil initially wanted to leave this universe badly, but as he hung out with KD, he gradually put down his troubles and started to want to stay here with KD, until it was revealed that KD is not from this universe either and staying here would not be the best option, he knew he needed to leave with KD, eventually

Did you know after all this jazz they went back to the reality they started with and lived in a cave for a while, plotting to leave this universe (yeah that cave was the location of the later Inkwell Hell)?

I mentioned somewhere in an ask-and-answer that Devil was KD’s first right (you know what I meant)? Although the prospect was extremely inviting, Devil initially couldn’t bring himself to just do the do with KD (this and a lot else had to do with Devil’s background), then immediately asked KD to marry him when they finally did get to it.

Here’s a pretty wild fancanon: After careful planning, KD and Devil essentially faked their defeat (c’mon remember the “who would win” meme?) and left Inkwell with the cupbros as heroes to the Inkwell residents. They went on to a specific time and place of a Section (a “standard” type of cluster of multiverses) KD prepared for them

Did I mention that some girls—e.g. Erony, AU Sally Stageplay and of course, creepy Pirouletta—had major crushes on KD?

Besides all that there’s so much more than the story of Devil and KD here: John and James, Cuphead and Mugman’s journey and more and more (this fanfic is called “The Inkwell Paradox” not “the snake-eyes paradox” so...)
