Statistics of Apollo's Lovers
I was wondering just how unfortunate of a love-life our boy Apollo had, so - as one does - I did the research, math, and writing of said love-life.
such is the life of an adhd teen :)
In total, there are 59 people on this list. I have them separated into eight groups; Immortal, Immortal & Rejected, Lived, Died, Rejected & Died, Rejected & Cursed, Rejected & Lived, and who were Rejected by Apollo
Disclaimer: I am not a historian nor an expert in Greek Mythology, I am just a very invested nerd in Mythology, and in Apollo's mythology in general, and got curious about what his rap sheet actually looks like.
Sidenote: There will be some "lovers" not on this list. Reasons being;
No actual literary sources behind them
Said literary sources are dubious at best
Not enough information is given about the nature of their relationship to make an accurate take
So if somebody isn't on this list, it's because of one of those three reasons. Although there is still a chance I missed somebody! :)
Also, no RRverse lovers include in this list. Sorry my fellow ToA fans.
(Edited 04/29/24 - Currently adding in sources/references/expanding on the myths themselves. bare with me lol)
Let's begin! :D
Immortal Lovers
Calliope: muse of epic poetry. Mother of Hymenaios and Ialemus by Apollo.
Clio: muse of history
Erato: muse of love poetry
Euterpe: muse of music
Polyhymnia: muse of hymns/sacred poetry
Melpomene: muse of tragedy
Thalia: muse of comedy. Mother of the Corybantes by Apollo.
Terpsichore: muse of dance
Urania: muse of astronomy
Boreas: the North Wind. yes Apollo dated the North Wind. Who knew? It's mentioned in the Argonautica by the Boreads - they call Apollo "beloved of our sire" so...hmm. wonder what happened there because that's all we get.
10 lovers total here.
9 Female, 1 Male
Immortal & Rejected
Hestia: goddess of the Hearth
1 Interest. Female.
Lovers Who Lived:
Branchus: mortal shepherd, gifted prophecy
Rhoeo: mortal princess, eventually married an apprentice of Apollo
Ourea: demigod daughter of Poseidon, dated Apollo during his punishment with Laomedon; had a son named after the city of Troy
Evadne: nymph daughter of Poseidon, Apollo sent Eileithyia & (in some texts) the Fates to aid in their son's birth
Thero: great-granddaughter of Heracles, described as "beautiful as moonbeams"
Cyrene: mortal princess-turned-nymph queen, kick-ass lion wrangler, and mother of two of Apollo's sons - Aristaeus (a god) and Idmon (powerful seer)
Admetus: mortal king, took great care of Apollo during his second punishment, Apollo wingmanned him for Alcestis's hand - basically Apollo doted on him <3
Hecuba: queen of Troy, together they had Troilus.
It was foretold that if Troilus lived to adulthood, Troy wouldn't fall - unfortunately, Achilles murdered Troilus in Apollo's temple. When the Achaeans burned Troy down, Apollo rescued Hecuba and brought her to safety in Lycia.
Hyrie/Thyrie: mortal. mothered a son by Apollo. Their son, Cycnus, attempted to kill himself after some shenanigans and his mother attempted the same. Apollo turned them into swans to save their lives.
Dryope: mortal. had a son named Amphissus with Apollo, who was a snake at the time. Later turned into a lotus flower, but it had nothing to do with Apollo so she's still on this list. (noncon; written by Ovid in Metamorphoses)
Creusa: mortal queen. had a son named Ion with Apollo. Please check out @my-name-is-apollo's post for more details because they make some good points about what's considered "rape" in Ancient Greece.
Melia: Oceanid nymph. Had a son w/h Apollo named Tenerus. will expand on her in a bit
Iapis: a favorite lover. Apollo wanted to teach him prophecy, the lyre, ect. but Iapis just wanted to heal :) so Apollo taught him healing :)
Aethusa: daughter of Poseidon & the Pleiad Alcyone. Mother of Linus and Eleuther. She is the great-great grandmother of Orpheus.
Acacallis: daughter of King Minos. there's a lot of variation on whether or not she had kids with Hermes or Apollo. Some say she had a kid with each.
Chrysothemis: nymph queen who won the oldest contest of the Pythian Games - the singing of a hymn to Apollo. She had three daughters, and one of them is said to be Apollo's.
Corycia: naiad. had a son with Apollo. the Corycian Cave north of Delphi is named after her
Leuconoe (also Choine or Philonis): daughter of Eosphorus, god of the planet Venus, and mother of the bard Philammon.
Melaena (also Thyia or Kelaino): mother of Delphos, member of prophetic Thriae of Delphi. Priestess of Dionysus.
Othreis: mothered Phager by Apollo, and later Meliteus by Zeus.
Stilbe: mother of Lapithus and Aineus by Apollo.
Syllis (possible same as Hyllis, granddaughter of Heracles): mothered Zeuxippus by Apollo.
Amphissa: Apollo seduced her in the form of a shepherd. They had a son named Agreus.
Aria (or Deione): had a son named Miletus. Hid him in some smilax. Her father found him and named him.
Arsinoe: she and Apollo had a daughter named Eriopis.
Queen of Orkhomenos (no name is given): Mother of Trophonius (my fellow ToA fans will recognize that name haha).
Hypermnestra: Either Apollo or her husband fathered her son Amphiaraus. (sidenote: @literallyjusttoa suggested that Apollo was dating both Hypermnestra and Oikles, and I, personally, accept that headcannon)
Manto: Daughter of Tiresias. Apollo made her a priestess of Delphi. They had a son named Mopsus. When Apollo sent her to found an oracle elsewhere, he told her to marry the first man she saw outside of Delphi. That man turned out to be Rhacius, who brought her to Claros, where she founded the oracle of Apollo Clarios. Later, another man named Lampus attempted to assult her, but was killed by Apollo. She is also said to be a priestess who warned Niobe not to insult Leto, and to ask for forgiveness. Niobe did not.
Parthenope: granddaughter of a river god. Mothered Lycomedes by Apollo
Phthia: prophetess. called "beloved of Apollo". Mother three kings by him; Dorus, Laodocus, & Polypoetes
Procleia: Mother of Tenes, son of Apollo, who was killed by Achilles before the Trojan War. Daughter of King Laomedon, king of Troy.
Helenus: prince of Troy. Received from Apollo an ivory bow which he used to wound Achilles in the hand.
Hippolytus of Sicyon: called "beloved of Apollo" in Plutarch Life of Numa. I don't think this guy is the same as the Hippolytus, son of Zeuxippus (son of Apollo), king of Sicyon Pausanias talks about in his Description of Greece. That would be a little weird taking the whole family tree into account - though it's never stopped Zeus before, I guess.
Psamathe: nereid, said to be the personification of the sand of the sea-shore. There are two versions of her myths, both very different, but I'll only explain the one that explicitly states her and Apollo's relationship, which is by Conon's Narrationes. She and Apollo were lovers, but never had any kids. When another man assaulted her, she had a son and abandoned him. (He was found by some shepherds dw - wait, he was then torn apart by dogs. Nevermind.). Back to her, her father ordered for her to be executed and Apollo avenged her death by sending a plague onto Argos and refused to stop it until Psamathe and Linus (her son) were properly given honors.
(I really like how even though Linus isn't Apollo's kid, and that Psamathe wanted nothing to do with the kid, Apollo still considered him worth avenging too <3 )
(also would like to say that I found her on another's wiki page and that page said she was raped by Apollo - this just proves that you shouldn't take the wiki at face value because as shown above, that is not what happened.)
Alright. 34 lovers here.
5 Male. 29 Female.
33 are 100% consensual. Creusa is questionable, depending on who's translating.
The last one is Melia, who I will expand upon here.
Melia was said to be kidnapped, and her brother found her with Apollo. He set fire to Apollo's temple in an effort to get her back, but was killed. Melia and Apollo had two kids - but here's the interesting part. Melia was highly worshiped in Thebes, where her brother found her. She was an incredibly important figure in Thebes, especially when connected with Apollo. She and Apollo were essentially the parents of Thebes.
As I read over their story, it sounded like (to me, at least. it's okay if you think otherwise!) that Melia just absconded/eloped with Apollo.
Was kidnapping an equivalent to assault back then? Perhaps. But it's still debated on whenever or not that's true. However, one thing I've noticed reading up on these myths is that when Apollo does do something unsavory, the text says so.
It never says anything about Apollo doing anything to Melia. Her father and brother believe she was kidnapped, but, like mentioned previously, it seems far much more likely that she just ran off with her boyfriend or something.
But that's just my interpretation.
Moving on! :)
Lovers Who Died:
Hyacinthus*: mortal prince. we all know this one, right? Right? one and only true love turned into flower
Cyparissus: mortal. his DEER DIED and he asked Apollo to let him MOURN FOREVER so he was turned into a cypress tree
Coronis: mortal princess. cheated on Apollo w/h another guy. mother of Asclepius. killed by Artemis.
Adonis: yes, THAT Adonis. he's in this category because. well. he died. rip
Phorbas: at first I was going to keep him off, till I went "hOLD UP!". Listen, this guy's story is contradictory in Hyginus's De Astronomica - he's a rival of Apollo, then all of a sudden his (dead) lover. My first reaction was the above, then it was "OH MY GODS CANON ENEMIES TO LOVERS??? WITH DEATH???"
There's also a second account of Phorbas - he ended a plague on an island and became Apollo's lover that way, and when he died, Zeus turned him into a constellation - Ophiuchus.
(*In some texts, Hyacinthus was resurrected.)
6 lovers.
5 Male. 1 Female. All consensual.
Sidenote: QUIT BURYING THE GAYS GREECE!!!!
Love-Interests Who Rejected & Died:
Daphne: do i nEED to say anything? Nymph. turned into tree to escape.
Castalia*: Nymph. turned into spring to escape.
2 Interests. 1 debatable.
2 Female.
(*Castalia's myth was written in 400 AD, VERY late in the myth cycle, and was strictly ROMAN. In every other case, the Castalian spring was already at Delphi before Apollo was born.)
Love-Interests Who Rejected & Cursed
Cassandra: mortal princess. Promised to date Apollo if she was given gift of prophecy. when he did, she rejected him and he cursed her to never be believed for her visions.
1 Interests.
1 Female.
Lover-Interests Who Rejected & Lived
Sinope: mortal. got Apollo to promise her anything; requested to remain a virgin. he obliged.
Marpessa: mortal princess, granddaughter of Ares. Idas, son of Poseidon, kidnapped her and Apollo caught up to them. Zeus had Marpessa chose between them, and she chose Idas, reasoning that she would eventually grow old and Apollo would tire of her.
Bolina: mortal. Apollo approached her and she flung herself off a cliff. He turned her into a nymph to save her life. Nothing happened between them, although some texts may say that she eventually dated him.
Ocroe/Okyrrhoe: nymph and daughter of a river god. asked a boatman to take her home after Apollo approached her. Apollo ended up turning the boat to stone and the seafarer into a fish.
Sibyl of Cumean: mortal seer. promised to date Apollo if she was given longevity as long as the amount of sand in her hand. he did, but she refused him.
5 Interests. All female.
Okyrrhoe's story is the only one with any iffy stuff, although, like stated in previous sections, when something iffy does occur, the text usually says so outright.
Rejected by Apollo:
Clytie*: Oceanid nymph. turned into a heliotrope to gaze at the sun forever after the rejection.
1 Advance. Female.
(*Clytie's story was originally about her affection for Helios. When Apollo got conflated with him, her story also changed.)
In Conclusion...
59 people total (includes Castalia & Clytie)
48 Women (81%). 11 Men (19%).
19% were Immortal (Including Lovers & Rejected)
66% Lived (Including Lovers & Rejected)
14% Died (Including Lovers & Rejected)
1% were Cursed
2% were Rejected by him
57 people total (Not including Castalia & Clytie)
46 Women (82%). 11 Men (18%).
18% were Immortal
68% Lived (Lovers & Rejected)
12% Died (Lovers & Rejected)
in that 12%, one was apotheosized - Hyacinthus.
Meaning 10% died permanently, while 2% were resurrected.
2% were Cursed
0% were Rejected by him
Additionally, I left off three male lovers and two female lovers - Atymnius, Leucates, Cinyras, Hecate, & Acantha.
Atymnius has no references to being Apollo's lover, only to Zeus's son Sarpedon.
Leucates is another male "lover" left off the rack - apparently he jumped off a cliff to avoid Apollo, but I couldn't find any mythological text to account for it. There is a cliff named similarly to him where Aphrodite went (by Apollo's advice) to rid herself of her longing for Adonis after his death. Also Zeus uses it to rid himself of his love for Hera before he cheats on her again.
Cinyras was a priest of Aphrodite on the island of Cyprus. He was also the island's king. Pindar calls him "beloved of Apollo" in his Pythian Ode. However, looking further into Cinyras's life throws a bit of a wrench into it. He's also cited to be a challenger to Apollo's skill, and either Apollo or Mars (Ares) kills him for his hubris.
(honestly, I kinda like the idea that Mars went into Big Brother Mode)
I did consider leaving him on the list, since technically you could argue it was a romance-gone-bad, but among every other source Cinyras is mentioned in, Pindar's the only one who puts a romantic label on him and Apollo.
Hecate, the goddess of magic and crossroads, is said to be the mother of Scylla (like, the sea-monster) by Apollo, but Scylla's parentage is one of those "no specific parents" ones, so I left her off the list.
Acantha has absolutely no classical references. There's a plant like her name, but she's made-up, so she doesn't count.
(Of course, I could be wrong about any of these. Again, I'm not an expert.)
With all this in mind, this means Apollo's love life actually isn't as tragic as media portrays it, and he isn't as bad as Zeus or Poseidon in the nonconsensual area.
Does he still have those kinds of myths? Yes, with Dryope & Creusa, though Creusa we could discount because;
1) Depends on who's translating it; and
2) Euripides (the guy who wrote the play Ion) contradicts himself on Ion's parentage in another play, and honestly Apollo's characterization in Ion just doesn't quite match up with the rest of his appearances in the wider myths (in my opinion, at least - feel free to ask why)
So that leaves us with just Dryope, who comes from Ovid. Now I'm not saying we should throw her out because of Ovid's whole "wrote the gods even more terribly to criticize Augustus" thing, but it is something to keep in mind.
So overall, I'd say Apollo has a rather clean relationship past. It is far better than Zeus or Poseidon's for one, and he is miles ahead of Hermes and Dionysus.
He's doing pretty damn good.

Yello everyone!
Time for my annual sappy New Year's post! Though it is not midnight yet in Germany, I, as always, want to extend my biggest and brightest Thank You to everyone who has been there for me this year on this website. I've already said so much sickly sweet shit for the Holiday post, but I can never overstate just how much you all mean to me and how happy this place makes me, even with the occasional anon drama and whatnot.
This year started out pretty solid for me (Hey, I got my degree, didn't I?) and then took a nosedive so fast, that I felt the whiplash for months and am still recovering. This year won't start out super awesome for me either, but I am choosing to try and make the best out of a shitty situation, as I'm sure many of you are as well.
The world is a scary place, I'm sure we're all aware, but I want you to know that you can always slide into my DMs and talk to me when shit gets tough, a lot of my moots can attest to that.
Thank you for your continued interest in my creations, for always diligently signing up for my exchanges, for sharing every little idea you have with me, and for every other little thing you do. Sorry for sounding a little bit like a cheesy romcom novel there at the end but it had to be said.
If you're celebrating tonight (or right now), be safe, drink responsibly, don't dare get behind that fucking steering wheel if you're sauced, and keep that good old vomit bucket nearby. If you're not celebrating, cuddle up, and send some messages if you please. If it's 2024 for you already, Happy Fuckin' New Year, and sleep well.
Alright, wall of text over. Love you guys so much, you have no idea. Mwah!

Bookstore AU for Rus x Edmund, please??
@dancingsunflowers-ocs 🌼💛🌼
I should really make a gifset for rusmund atp… they get so much love and yet I don’t make anything for them 😭 tagging @daughter-of-melpomene bc she adores Rus hehe
modern au bc ✨I said so✨
Edmund works at the local bookstore, Ruslana is new to town and eager to get herself a welcome gift by browsing in the nearest bookstore
they still get their rocky start when Rus walks up to the door, only for her to slam right into a grumpy, new books-carrying Ed; which descends into an argument about whose fault it was that the new shipment had a nasty-looking dent on its side and Rus' boba was now soaking the ground
"at least pay for my boba, you prick!" "it's not like you could've brought it with you into the shop" "i drink fast, now get me a new boba or just give me the money" "like hell! 'sides, you bumped into me!"
Edmund ends up at the boba shop after Ruslana helps him carry and shelf the new books ("it's... not bad" "it's okay if you say it's the best thing in this world, y'know?" "it's not that good" "that's just because you haven't found your order")
after finishing up their drinks, Ed finds himself inputting his number on Rus' phone so they can "find what his drink is" and "convince his boss that he should get a break". Edmunds gets a text that night asking if he's read the Lunar Chronicles, he responds with a "isn't that for kids?" that makes Ruslana scoff and tap her fingers on her keyboard with the speed of light...

La Culta de Le Sirene: Siren Veneration in Ancient Naples
I’ve been wanting to talk about this for a really long time, since Siren veneration has become really important to my revivalism both as a Hellenic Polytheist and Italian Folk Practicioner. So without further ado, here’s a little bit about the Ancient Siren Cult + some UPG just for funsies ☺️
Who are the Sirens?
While many people today see Sirens as synonymous with mermaids, the ancient Greeks actually viewed them as half woman half bird creatures who personified both the beauty and treachery travelers face at sea or in the mountains. While their mythical origins vary, they were commonly attributed to be the daughters of the Muse Melpomene (the Muse of Tragedy) and the River Achelous.
Tumblr media
In one variation, they were handmaidens of Persephone, who fled when she was abducted by Haides. Demeter, angry that they didn’t aid in the search for her daughter, cursed them to take their half bird form and that they should have to live out their days luring men to their deaths until a man should pass by unaffected by their song and they would be forced to drown themselves in the sea.
Tumblr media
Later depictions of sirens throughout the centuries would morph into the mermaid image most people are familiar with, especially after Rome took over. They went from the classic bird-woman image, to a woman riding two seahorses, then eventually emerging in the 7th century as the double-tailed mermaid you might be familiar with if you’ve ever passed by a Starbucks.
Veneration in Ancient Naples
Before Naples was renamed, it was once called Parthenopolis, named after the siren Parthenope, one of the sirens who tries to lure Odysseus and his crew to their deaths. Upon failing to do so, the Sirens drowned themselves in the sea, but Parthenope’s body was said to have washed up on the shores of Naples, where a temple was built in her honor in what is now Sorrento.
From then on, she was considered to be the mother and protectress of the city of Parthenopolis, held in such high regard that being Neopolitan was considered synonymous with being a “child of Parthenope.” Not much is known about the specifics of the Siren cult, but we do know that the Oracle had decreed for an annual torch race to be held in honor of her.
Tumblr media
Through the centuries, the image of the Siren remained integral to the cultural identity of Naples, even being used as a symbol to ward off il malocchio (the evil eye). To this day the image of the Siren or mermaid is considered a symbol of abundance.
✨UPG! ✨
Parthenope appears to me in both mermaid and bird-woman form, depending on the mood. She is fiercely protective and takes her motherly aspect very seriously. That being said, she also has a devious side and won’t hesitate to stir the pot a little if she thinks it will get her point across. She is excellent at helping to foster self-expression and authenticity, and likes to help with protection, glamour magick, and shadow work.
Offerings/Devotional Activities she likes include:
• Music! Especially singing, but playing an instrument or making a devotional playlist make great offerings too! (She’s a big Florence and the Machine fan, in my experience)
• Poetry, Art, or any other creative endeavor.
• Feathers
• Seashells
• Driftwood
• Cool Rocks
• Rose Quartz
• Ocean Jasper
• Sea Salt
• Tea
• Self Care Routines
• Journaling
• Anything really, as long as it’s thoughtfully given💕

Thanks so much for your ask @faerieroyal !!! Cora, my beloved tailor baby...
2. Does your OC act differently around different people?
Yes, definitely. At least where physical affection is concerned. Cora will let nobody touch her except the Straw Hats, and even for them it took a learning curve. But once she really trusts someone, she gets so freaking touchy. Especially with Zoro and Sanji, she's such a cuddlebug, and holding hands with them actually becomes a source of comfort for her. She also has a real smile and a fake smile, and the real smile is only seen by her friends - and only they know the difference.
4. Who influenced them the most in their journey?
Sadly, the answer is: The king and his sons who she had to serve under for most of her life. The experiences she had during these years are engraved into each of her cells and unlearning the negative things is very, very slow. But if we wanted to pick a person who positively influenced her, it's her mother, the woman who loved her unconditionally, who told her to keep going no matter what, who taught her everything she knows about her family's history and who inspired her dream to revive her family's legacy. In a very bittersweet way, she's a mirror image of her mother, carrying her spirit with her wherever she goes.
7. What type of friend are they?
She's the acts of service friend who's into sewing, mending, crochet, embroidery, knitting, all of that. The one not only who you can come to get your worn-out favourite sweater fixed but also who will look at you and go: "There's a loose thread there, want me to fix it for you? The fabric's starting to get worn down, do you want me to make you a handmade patch or find a way to invisibly mend it or maybe make an exact copy of this piece of clothing?" The one friend everyone goes to for fashion advice. But also the one who you yell at over a text at five am so that they go to sleep. In the One Piece verse this would be a very literal encounter between Sanji getting up at five in the morning and happening upon Cora still awake. You best believe he's going to escort her to bed himself and make sure she can sleep before going right back to the men's room to absolutely flambé Zoro for not dragging Cora to bed when he went to sleep an hour earlier. She's also the one with the mental health issues, but let's be honest, who in the Straw Hats isn't?
8. How loyal are they?
This is the person who didn't forget Sanji's face even after twelve years, the last time she had seen him being when they were little kids. She is loyal until her dying breath to him especially, but also to the other Straw Hats.
Thanks again for your ask, Dolly! Hope you're having a lovely day <3

Friday, November 11 -- Lo-Fi Beats to Be a Magick to: Create a playlist for a type of Magick in the Swynverse — you don’t have to have one in play!
We are the ~~Muses~~ Goddesses of the Arts and proclaimers of heroes...
I just think they’re super neat expect to hear more about this later.
Long Ago / The Gospel Truth I
I couldn’t resist including this it’s just so good and it felt a fitting way to remind everyone how funky these characters are, I think they have the potential to be SO interesting (and hey we could do with a new Order in town) so now buckle up as I dedicate the remaining tracks to each of the Muses.
“You go girls”
Thalia, the Muse of Comedy - Funny Girl (Diana Ross & The Supremes)
“Yeah, the guy said, "Honey You're a funny girl" That's me I just keep them in stitches Doubled in half And though I may be all wrong for the guy I'm good for a laugh”
The gift of laughter can be such a double edged sword, beloved by so many but who really sees the person behind the jokes? So much room for interesting exploration here.
Calliope, the Muse of Epic Poetry & Heroes - Warrior Daughter (Wildwood Kin)
“For my armour keeps you safe
Ride ahead, you fight for what is yours So take your sword, protector of them all The heart may be a battle in its own Don't hesitate; you'll never be alone
You are a warrior Strength and courage lies within your heart”
I love this song so much and there is something wonderfully Homeric about the idea of the protective figure voiced in the song, like a goddess watching over their chosen warrior hero.
Terpsichore, the Muse of Dance - Circus/Just Dance (Boyce Avenue)
“I feel the adrenaline moving through my veins Spotlight on me and I'm ready to break I'm like a performer, the dance floor is my stage Better be ready, hope that you feel the same
So just dance! Gonna be okay”
The dancer of all dancers! But what happens when you find out your ability isn’t entirely your own? Is it still freeing or is it something that causes you guilt? All the same, nothing better than losing your feelings on the floor.
Clio, the Muse of History - Coins for the Eyes (Johnny Flynn)
“We dig for the Gods that leave no bones For the ship that sailed in the sunken sea There's a lot to discarded stones The famine road, and the merchants keep Come and search for, we would search And looking for a scarred land Turn the soil Weave a dream Dread the river, rig the sand And dig for those whose stories lie with buried paths and futures won”
This is such a funky spooky little song (You go ,Johnny), but I love the idea of perhaps inverting the idea of History from the Greek understanding of it (all texts and Classical history) to have a muse who was a deep love for these forgotten parts of history, perhaps an academic?
Euterpe, the Muse of Music - Songbird (Eva Cassidy)
“'Cause I feel that when I'm with you It's alright, I know it's right
And the songbirds are singing, Like they know the score”
What must it be like to have the music woven into every fibre of you, to inspire it everywhere you go?
Erato, the Muse of Love Poetry - Love Song (Sara Bareilles)
“No easy way to say this You mean well, but you make this hard on me
I'm not gonna write you a love song 'Cause you asked for it 'Cause you need one”
When you’re the Muse of Love Poetry and people fall in love with you at the drop of a hat, it can be tough! Maybe Erato has to explore what they actually want and who they actually love.
Melpomene, the Muse of Tragedy - Read All About It, Part III (Emeli Sande)
“There's no need to be afraid I will sing with you my friend Come on, come on
I wanna sing, I wanna shout I wanna scream 'til the words dry out So put it in all of the papers I'm not afraid They can read all about it Read all about it”
Tragedy is all about catharsis, about that cleansing feeling of releasing all of your emotions as somebody else breaks your heart through art, and this song just screams of that for me, about just letting it all GO. Being the muse of tragedy must be a heavy burden to bear.
Polyhymnia, the Muse of Hymns & Sacred Poetry - Heaven’s Here on Earth (Tracy Chapman)
“You can look to the stars in search of the answers Look for God and life on distant planets Have your faith in the ever after While each of us holds inside the map to the labyrinth And heaven's here on earth”
Everybody’s looking for meaning and sometimes clinging to that meaning can turn people against others. Being the muse of hymns and Sacred texts and meditation must come with a lot of people looking to you for answers and not always liking what you tell them.
Urania, the Muse of Astronomy - Celestial Dancers (Birdy)
“In the heavens above us Turn to the sky Looking for answers And I saw no reply Only celestial dancers”
Imagine being the muse of Astronomy! Think how that role must have changed over the centuries from the stories of the constellations, to the discovery of new planets to modern scientific astronomy! But still being able to see the beauty in the heavens!!!

How do you like proof and facts that divide the White Race? If it’s fuck Native Americans, as I am, then it’s fuck the Tawny Asians except North Korea. Some person would think I can’t make a region by allyance, but I can make a region as forest are forest and incompetence is incompetence. I can make things about TV and phones, just to take a page out of Republican’s Book to talk about the lack of “climate control” in China and Asia (coal) as I would add lead poisoning, “made in China.” You don’t like conspiracy theory that would call for war and manufacturing? Who would denounce, China? How did you like the unemployment check? When I do so, the act, I can make a front of “clean energy” just to let the fact be concealed (thug). Some woman thinks this is unreal. I did the necessary to where she and I can watch TV for some hours, and there are people waiting for my “update”, my “report”, as they have work to do before and after the fact. My work is the amount of my struggles, and giving “foot soldiers” means to be an honorable vet who is able to make sacrifice and worship. Who just wants someone spitting facts at you, things that can be googled? What is a translator and ancient text? I would make my money personified by profession, just to know the “freeze” that makes everyone look stupid. What are you doing? some bastards would not see that a lazy bastard who just “sleeps” and say “facts” can come to get you condemned if you are not doing anything with “the facts”, I am not lazy, so now you understand why someone gives facts.. to condemn, least he himself be condemned. FACTS. I’m on to your game, you negro. Someone would work, and now you are just giving “facts”, not able to make money right now. What is my oppression, and you being nobody? I can make you money right now, and if I told you personally how to do it (as I am in) and you do not listen.. i can call you a bitch. What is your prominence? “They can just find a different job.” YOU AIN’T NOTHING (the joke, I hope you get it). Many can’t understand that Hathor is “house of Horus”, and the Greeks would trust in their land, their government, just to exclude (weird) by their gods. “Bizarre and primitive.” The Greeks were in Egypt, not Egyptians in Greece, and now that “WHYTE family”, is leaving NYC so I’m personifying cleopatra needle. War on all fronts! Hathor is House of Horus, and by this I can personify udjat eye. Wedjat eye is of Horus, and when you can understand the virus that evil eye lets off you can come to get men who hold their loins like a pregnant woman does!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Those blue eyes weirded him out, Ivan’s we’re even more creepy.” Weird is weird, and weird is induce a sense of disbelief or alienation in someone. I have seen people become a sex object, and the objection wasn’t them but their father. The father just exposed a weird person as he had shades. Now, you can come to see hate, “you aren’t having sex on my watch, for then I may have to take care of another baby - perhaps a daughter.” Hey, are you a mongoloid? When you see the fact, you can come to see that weird is unearthly. Unearthly is unreasonably early, inconvenient. So, is being “out of this world” a compliment? You hit it out of the park, is not you are out of this world. You would rather “you rock my world..?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How do you like knowing that you are weird if you are weird? There is a difference between being weird, and doing something weird, as something that is weird (that you do) is your destiny. People would put on Melpomene Mask, Thalia Mask, and I would say, “when you were in elementary school, did your teacher play classical during assignments?” And, that’s the talk or lack thereof.. How does someone get to talking? Do you just want to hear about my earlier youth? Well, I know you are a racialist with the foot of pride, because I know the word pickaninny.. and I’m not fond of it. Who wants to see if I would put my parents on the guillotine on the day of judgement? You could be Donald Trump not able to ever be local, a local somebody, or you could be fair-skinned in NEW YORK CITY wanting to live In suburbs as there is really nothing to do in New York City - as there is a big number of they with skin that looks as if it was put to the flame. There is an open door and from that door you see a room that amounts to personality. I don’t want to just be a “room”, but a great house that blesses the LORD, God.
Tumblr media
The Thalia Mask, Melpomene Mask, would open doors and now you see personalities that amount to the voice and Adam’s Apple. In the fact, you can fathom the singing girl as soldiers are soldiers. How weak? Ragtime was an attack, as it was nothing but ole slave music that left plantations just to be put on sheet music (the genre), the attack brought another attack that opened doors of interracial and lust. The lust is not according to the law of Moses, as one of the needs of life are just that (wine), but rather the lust is means to engage sin and have it rule over victims. There are people out there that engage sin, and because they spark the flame that makes a fire they feel they will be “last to stand.” You see a mongoloid who doesn’t have what it takes, and in her lack of action she became a sex object - only for a dad to then want to be “dad.” It isn’t going to take my daughter becoming a “sex object” to make me a father. You would see a boom from muse and fire, and now the muzzle is the middle as work is work. Everyone can’t just talk at you, many men are as beast, and if a man has a position of honor and he has no understanding he is as a beast of a field. “I don’t want people to know this information”, and the information is of wisdom as you are rival to a bitch that winks the eye - showing she hates an individual for no reason.
Don Lemon? You can’t be better than him? What about that Negro on with the Blonde at 2:00 on CNN? Where is the prime time Negro other than Don Lemon? Did you know he is a homosexual? So now, you can see Anderson Cooper and the Kike Race. What’s going on? Oh, LORD, do I not hate they who hate you, with a passionate hate? They despise your law, they consider wisdom as folly as they praise/bless themselves. Lead them into disarray, O God, let them see a slippery slope as my nature personifies a culture approved by you. O, lo, do people realize before I started talking and writing I studied? This is not me watching news and preparing for a one hour podcast once a week…………………….. do you know cable news is mostly 24 hours and it’s the same thing with different people giving facts and opinions according to it? All these Negro’s and their rivals with their fact, acting like God wrote the constitution as you can’t upkeep the document in full, why don’t you get in news? That’s a thought. “YouTube.” What?

Dearest creature in creation, Study English pronunciation. I will teach you in my verse Sound like corpse, corps, horse, and worse. I will keep you, Suzy, busy, Make your head with heat grow dizzy. Tear in eye, your dress will tear. So shall I! Oh hear my prayer. Just compare heart, beard, and heard, Dies and diet, lord and word, Sword and sward, retain and Britain. (Mind the latter, how it’s written.) Now I surely will not plague you With such words as plaque and ague. But be careful how you speak: Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low, Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe. Hear me say, devoid of trickery, Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore, Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles, Exiles, similes, and reviles; Scholar, vicar, and cigar, Solar, mica, war and far; One, anemone, Balmoral, Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel; Gertrude, German, wind and mind, Scene, Melpomene, mankind. Billet does not rhyme with ballet, Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet. Blood and flood are not like food, Nor is mould like should and would. Viscous, viscount, load and broad, Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation’s OK When you correctly say croquet Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve, Friend and fiend, alive and live. Ivy, privy, famous; clamour And enamour rhyme with hammer. River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb, Doll and roll and some and home. Stranger does not rhyme with anger, Neither does devour with clangour. Souls but foul, haunt but aunt, Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant, Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger, And then singer, ginger, linger, Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge, Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age. Query does not rhyme with very, Nor does fury sound like bury.
Does, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth. Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath. Though the differences seem little, We say actual but victual. Refer does not rhyme with deafer. Fe0ffer does, and zephyr, heifer. Mint, pint, senate and sedate; Dull, bull, and George ate late. Scenic, Arabic, Pacific, Science, conscience, scientific. Liberty, library, heave and heaven, Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven. We say hallowed, but allowed, People, leopard, towed, but vowed. Mark the differences, moreover, Between mover, cover, clover; Leeches, breeches, wise, precise, Chalice, but police and lice; Camel, constable, unstable, Principle, disciple, label. Petal, panel, and canal, Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal. Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair, Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four. Gas, alas, and Arkansas. Sea, idea, Korea, area, Psalm, Maria, but malaria. Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean. Doctrine, turpentine, marine. Compare alien with Italian, Dandelion and battalion. Sally with ally, yea, ye, Eye, I, aye, eye, whey, and key. Say aver, but ever, fever, Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver. Heron, granary, canary. Crevice and device and aerie. Face, but preface, not efface. Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass. Large, but target, gin, give, verging, Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear Do not rhyme with here but ere. Seven is right, but so is even, Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen, Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk, Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work. Pronunciation (think of Psyche!) Is a pailing stout and spikey? Won’t it make you lose your wits, Writing groats but saying grits? It’s a dark abyss or tunnel: Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwhale, Islington and Isle of Wight, Housewife, verdict and indict. Finally, which rhymes with enough, Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough? Hiccough has the sound of cup My advice is to give up!
~~~
I did it. I messed up like three words either because they’re Greek, French, or literal nonsense but I did it. text copied and read from [here]
I would also like to state that a lot of these words have multiple pronunciations, and I would go either with the one that rhymed or the one that I personally use. this poem was not written for my accent.
Hellenic Polytheism Local Cultus Challenge 1
As this is a local cultus blog, I thought it would be interesting to have some challenges for my fellow Hellenic Polytheists! And even if you aren’t, these challenges can be used to jump start any local cultus practice.
Here’s how it’s going to work;
I publish ancient texts, bold important things related to local cultus, and based on those, I present challenges related to the texts. There will be several, so you get to choose! The challenge can either be you go out and work on your local cultus OR if you already have an answer, reblog this and let us know!
Without further ado, let’s begin.
HESIOD’S THEOGONY
From the Heliconian Muses let us begin to sing, who hold the great and holy mount of Helicon, and dance on soft feet about the deep-blue spring and the altar of the almighty son of Cronos, and, when they have washed their tender bodies in Permessus or in the Horse's Spring or Olmeius, make their fair, lovely dances upon highest Helicon and move with vigorous feet. Thence they arise and go abroad by night, veiled in thick mist, and utter their song with lovely voice, praising Zeus the aegis- holder and queenly Hera of Argos who walks on golden sandals and the daughter of Zeus the aegis-holder bright-eyed Athene, and Phoebus Apollo, and Artemis who delights in arrows, and Poseidon the earth-holder who shakes the earth, and reverend Themis and quick-glancing (1) Aphrodite, and Hebe with the crown of gold, and fair Dione, Leto, Iapetus, and Cronos the crafty counsellor, Eos and great Helius and bright Selene, Earth too, and great Oceanus, and dark Night, and the holy race of all the other deathless ones that are for ever. And one day they taught Hesiod glorious song while he was shepherding his lambs under holy Helicon, and this word first the goddesses said to me -- the Muses of Olympus, daughters of Zeus who holds the aegis:
Shepherds of the wilderness, wretched things of shame, mere bellies, we know how to speak many false things as though they were true; but we know, when we will, to utter true things.'
So said the ready-voiced daughters of great Zeus, and they plucked and gave me a rod, a shoot of sturdy** laurel**, a marvellous thing, and breathed into me a divine voice to celebrate things that shall be and things there were aforetime; and they bade me sing of the race of the blessed gods that are eternally, but ever to sing of themselves both first and last. But why all this about oak or stone?
Come thou, let us begin with the Muses who gladden the great spirit of their father Zeus in Olympus with their songs, telling of things that are and that shall be and that were aforetime with consenting voice. Unwearying flows the sweet sound from their lips, and the house of their father Zeus the loud-thunderer is glad at the lily-like voice of the goddesses as it spread abroad, and the peaks of snowy Olympus resound, and the homes of the immortals. And they uttering their immortal voice, celebrate in song first of all the reverend race of the gods from the beginning, those whom Earth and wide Heaven begot, and the gods sprung of these, givers of good things. Then, next, the goddesses sing of Zeus, the father of gods and men, as they begin and end their strain, how much he is the most excellent among the gods and supreme in power. And again, they chant the race of men and strong giants, and gladden the heart of Zeus within Olympus, -- the Olympian Muses, daughters of Zeus the aegis-holder.
Them in Pieria did Mnemosyne (Memory), who reigns over the hills of Eleuther, bear of union with the father, the son of Cronos, a forgetting of ills and a rest from sorrow. For nine nights did wise Zeus lie with her, entering her holy bed remote from the immortals. And when a year was passed and the seasons came round as the months waned, and many days were accomplished, she bare nine daughters, all of one mind, whose hearts are set upon song and their spirit free from care, a little way from the topmost peak of snowy Olympus. There are their bright dancing-places and beautiful homes, and beside them the Graces and Himerus (Desire) live in delight. And they, uttering through their lips a lovely voice, sing the laws of all and the goodly ways of the immortals, uttering their lovely voice. Then went they to Olympus, delighting in their sweet voice, with heavenly song, and the dark earth resounded about them as they chanted, and a lovely sound rose up beneath their feet as they went to their father. And he was reigning in heaven, himself holding the lightning and glowing thunderbolt, when he had overcome by might his father Cronos; and he distributed fairly to the immortals their portions and declared their privileges.
These things, then, the Muses sang who dwell on Olympus, nine daughters begotten by great Zeus, Cleio and Euterpe, Thaleia, Melpomene and Terpsichore, and Erato and Polyhymnia and Urania and Calliope (3), who is the chiefest of them all, for she attends on worshipful princes: whomsoever of heaven-nourished princes the daughters of great Zeus honour, and behold him at his birth, they pour sweet dew upon his tongue, and from his lips flow gracious words. All the people look towards him while he settles causes with true judgements: and he, speaking surely, would soon make wise end even of a great quarrel; for therefore are there princes wise in heart, because when the people are being misguided in their assembly, they set right the matter again with ease, persuading them with gentle words. And when he passes through a gathering, they greet him as a god with gentle reverence, and he is conspicuous amongst the assembled: such is the holy gift of the Muses to men. For it is through the Muses and far-shooting Apollo that there are singers and harpers upon the earth; but princes are of Zeus, and happy is he whom the Muses love: sweet flows speech from his mouth. For though a man have sorrow and grief in his newly-troubled soul and live in dread because his heart is distressed, yet, when a singer, the servant of the Muses, chants the glorious deeds of men of old and the blessed gods who inhabit Olympus, at once he forgets his heaviness and remembers not his sorrows at all; but the gifts of the goddesses soon turn him away from these.
Hail, children of Zeus! Grant lovely song and celebrate the holy race of the deathless gods who are for ever, those that were born of Earth and starry Heaven and gloomy Night and them that briny Sea did rear. Tell how at the first gods and earth came to be, and rivers, and the boundless sea with its raging swell, and the gleaming stars, and the wide heaven above, and the gods who were born of them, givers of good things, and how they divided their wealth, and how they shared their honours amongst them, and also how at the first they took many-folded Olympus. These things declare to me from the beginning, ye Muses who dwell in the house of Olympus, and tell me which of them first came to be
CHALLENGE TIME
1)Mount Helicon
According to Wikipedia, springs sacred to the Muses were located on this mountain and the place was attributed to sacred poetic inspiration.
This also attributes the place to the Muses.
The mountain itself is
1,749 meters/
5,738 ft high in altitude, and is situated between bodies of water.
QUESTION: What places do you attribute to the Muses? What places do you often associate with inspiration?
CHALLENGE: Find somewhere you associate with the Muses, or even one of them. It doesn’t have to be a mountain or spring! Where do you feel their presence?
2) Laurel
_Laurus nobilis _is native to the Mediterranean, and is commonly used in food, medicine and aromatherapy. And it is pretty wide spread in Greek mythology, most notably in the myth of Daphne and Apollo, where Daphne is turned into a laurel tree.
QUESTION: Is laurel native to your area? If not, what other plant do you associate with the gods? OR how important is it to you to use native plants?
CHALLENGE: Find a plant native to your area that is sacred to you and your practice.
3) Mount Olympus
The home of the gods is actually a real mountain, the tallest mountain in Greece actually. Its highest point has an altitude of 2,918 meters/9,573 ft.
QUESTION: What is the highest altitude in your area? Do you think the gods have a one set “home” or are they more spread out?
CHALLENGE: If you can, try and scope out the highest altitude in your area (you don’t have to hike it or get on it if it is unsafe, not open to the public, if there are health concerns or any other reason). If that doesn’t interest you, identify where you feel the most in touch with the gods.
ARACELI @liminalspaces SIREN
The Sirens were beautiful but dangerous creatures that lured the sailors with their beautiful voices to their doom, causing the ships to crash on the reefs near their island. They were the daughters of the river god Achelous, while their mother may have been Terpsichore, Melpomene, Sterope or Chthon. Although closely linked to marine environments, they were not considered sea deities. The texts mentioning the Sirens provide different opinions as to their number and their names; some mention two or three; others mention more.
The Sirens were probably considered the companions of Persephone, daughter of goddess Demeter. The latter had given them wings in order to protect her daughter; however, after Persephone's abduction from Hades, Demeter cursed them. The Sirens' song was a beautiful, yet sad melody, eternally calling for Persephone's return.
