It’s not a slashy show, but if you like watching really deep male friendships develop, you should absolutely watch Grantchester (2014-2025). The entire thing is brilliant.

Only Fools And Horses actor Michael Jayston dies aged 88
Michael Jayston, who appeared in Only Fools And Horses, has died aged 88 after “a short illness”, his agent said on Monday.
A statement from his agent M&M Famous Faces said: “It is with great sadness that I have been asked by his family to share the news Michael Jayston sadly passed away this morning after a short illness.
“Those who knew Michael will know he was full of love, laughs and happiness. He adored meeting his fans all over the world.
“His family and friends would appreciate privacy at this time.”
The British actor played the father of Rachel “Raquel” Turner (Tessa Peake-Jones), love interest of Derek “Del Boy” Trotter (Sir David Jason) in the BBC sitcom.
In the episode Time On Our Hands, antiques dealer James tells Del Boy and his brother Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) that a watch in their garage was made by clockmaker John Harrison and is worth a fortune - leading to an auction where they become millionaires.

Character ask: Mary Bennet (Pride & Prejudice)
Favorite thing about them: She's funny. Her pretentious would-be intellectualism and her attempts to show off her "wisdom" and "talents" create humor whenever she appears.
Least favorite thing about them: Her pompous insensitivity when Lydia runs off with Wickham. When her whole family is facing the threat of permanent disgrace, her response is to quote Frances Burney's Evelina and preach a sermon about female virtue.
Three things I have in common with them:
*I sometimes try to seem smarter than I really am.
*I like books and music. (For their own merit, though, not because they make me "accomplished.")
*I'm often insecure about my looks.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I'm not a middle child.
*I'm not preachy. (At least I don't mean to be.)
*I don't play the piano.
Favorite line:
“Pride is a very common failing, I believe. By all that I have ever read, I am convinced that it is very common indeed; that human nature is particularly prone to it, and that there are very few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self-complacency on the score of some quality or other, real or imaginary. Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”
brOTP: Mr. Collins, if they had the chance to be real friends, since he probably has the most in common with her of all the characters.
OTP: The clerk that Austen wrote she would eventually marry.
nOTP: Any member of her family.
Random headcanon: She's allergic to feathers. This is a completely random headcanon, with no basis in Austen's writing, based on the slapstick gag in the Wishbone episode "Furst Impressions" where Caroline Bingley's gaudy feathered headdress makes Mary sneeze when they first meet. That Wishbone episode was my childhood introduction to Pride and Prejudice.
Unpopular opinion: She's not unfairly discriminated against because she's a nerd. She's not mocked for being socially awkward; she's mocked for being a pretentious, annoying know-nothing-know-it-all. Now, this doesn't mean we can't sympathize with her; after all, the reason why she puts so much effort into being "intellectual" and "accomplished" is to make up for her homely looks in a society where only marriage can secure her future, and she's a showoff because otherwise she would always be ignored in favor of her pretty sisters. Nor does it mean her father's dismissive attitude toward her isn't mean-spirited, or that she doesn't deserve to be viewed with more sympathy and depth in new adaptations and fics. But it's okay that she's a comic character, and it wasn't "internalized misogyny" on Austen's part to make her one. I don't headcanon her as being on the autism spectrum either: I understand why other people do, but to me at least, her stilted, verbose way of speaking seems cultivated to show off her intellect, not natural. (I don't mind when anyone else headcanons her as autistic, though.)
Song I associate with them: None at the moment.
Favorite pictures of them:

Lucy Briers in the 1995 miniseries:

Talulah Riley in the 2005 film:

How many series were produced of the British sitcom 'Only Fools and Horses'?
Tumblr media
'Only Fools and Horses' is a British sitcom set in Peckham, South London that aired between 1981 to 1991 for a total of seven series. The show follows two brothers, Rodney and Derek "Del Boy" Trotter, who try to make money with dodgy deals. They sell their ill-gotten goods on the streets of London, often saying "This time next year, we'll be millionaires". Meanwhile, they live with their Granddad, and later their Uncle Albert, in a council flat, where the elderly men try to convince the brothers that their latest money-making scheme will not work. The title of the show comes from the 19th-century American vaudeville saying, "only fools and horses work for a living".
The series stars David Jason as Del Boy and Nicholas Lyndhurst as Rodney, who have both since starred in other sitcoms during their acting careers. Also in the cast are a number of well-loved British comedy actors, including Roger Lloyd Pack, John Challis, Lennard Pearce, and Tessa Peake-Jones.
'Only Fools and Horses' won 21 awards, including six British Academy Film Awards, seven British Comedy Awards, and three National Television Awards. It was created by John Sullivan (1946-2011), who also wrote 'Citizen Smith' (1977-1980) and sketches for 'The Two Ronnies' (1977-1982). After the success of 'Only Fools and Horses', Sullivan wrote the spin-off 'The Green Green Grass' (2005-2009) and the prequel 'Rock & Chips' (2010-2011).

Grantchester: Women’s Wear
Yes, the lead detectives are men, but their outfits are incredibly boring, so let’s consider the the women’s clothing.
You see here Mrs. C, the housekeeper at the vicarage played by Tessa Peake-Jones. Her clothing was always appropriate--dresses and hats when she was in public. Then she remarried and got some brighter colors for dresses and coats and hats, but we have recently learned the source of her new husband’s money was tainted. So, less fashion extravagance from here on out I expect. In the middle is newspaper reporter Ellie Harding played by Lauren Carse in an evening outfit. Usually she is wearing pants and a plaid coat while at work which is how costume designers today try to signal that a woman character is modern. But it would been unusual gear for a professional woman in the 1950s. Pants on women were for active sports and countrywear and were not considered formal enough to office work or city travel. Not until the mid 1960s did fashion designers show women in pants for city wear and it took a few years for anyone to accept them. So, probably a reporter in the 1950s would have been wearing the kind of spiffy suits worn by the character Cathy Keating who works at a department store played by Kacey Ainsworth. There were so many, many interesting suit shapes for women in the 1950s and even the youngest of women would aim to own one.
Oh, yes, and there are mysteries too ;-)
