So I was watching TAZ tiktoks and I saw the user @yesichangedmynamesorry had this idea in a comment section about an AU where Taako dies from the poisoning of Glamour Springs and Sazed takes his place in the campaign.
It immediately intrigued me and I thought about what it would look like if June offered him the Temporal Chalice and...well here you go!

Part Seventeen of my TAZ: Balance Tarot deck: June (and the Temporal Chalice) as the Ace of Cups!
Probably going to add some embellishments to the chalice later (like some fluting or something around the stem/base). For now, this is good, and I feel comfortable with moving forward.
I also did what I could to imply the suit's related element (water) with rainclouds and the color of June's dress.

"Wait, Spaf got one, too?!"
Annie stares in shock, lips puckering as she rocks slightly in place. "Why are you so freaked out? And what's a...a spliff?"
Shy sighs. "Spaf. It's short for Spafnir, and it's a long story. But he's my friend and someone hit us both with the same magic."
"Magic...right." Annie starts jotting this down. It might make a good story.

And maybe that’s relevant somehow.
Lyrics are from November by Sparkbird!
[Image description: watercolor art of the Seven Birds from The Adventure Zone, all with solemnly frowning expressions. Magnus, a pale-skinned human, stands at the center, holding the Temporal Chalice. He's flanked by Davenport, a light-skinned gnome with graying hair, and Merle, a brown-skinned dwarf who's holding a white chess piece.
Behind them is Lucretia, a woman with dark brown skin who's holding the Bulwark Staff with her eyes closed, and Taako, an elf with light brown skin who's holding the Umbra Staff. He's facing away from Lucretia, but his eyes are pointed towards her.
Barry and Lup float behind the others in lich form, with text above the group reading: "not only is it thicker, blood is stickier than water". End ID.]
[Plain text: "And maybe that's relevant somehow." End description.]

Angus was a good detective. The best detective, if he could say so himself. Good enough for the Goldcliff Militia, good enough for the Bureau of Balance. But there were still mysteries that completely eluded him. Sure, joining the Bureau had cleared some things up. But it also opened up so many more questions. Angus could— and has!— filled several notebooks up with things he wanted to figure out. But right, his most pressing concern was this.
"What do you— what do you mean he was just here?" Angus said, looking away from his notes at last.
The Director was sitting behind her desk, sunk deeply into her chair. She wore a look deep… something. Angus couldn't quite place his finger on it. But it didn't matter right now.
"He was just here," the Director said again, shrugging.
"Is he—he's not inoculated?"
"As far as I'm aware," the Director said, "and I am very aware of who is and isn't inoculated— he has not been."
"How can he live up here—?"
"Who's to say he's alive?" the Director asked.
"…fuck," Angus said. Okay, new page. He started scribbling stuff down. He'd have to look into undead beings more— ooh, maybe Mr. Taako could put him in contact with Mr. Kravitz, he had been wanting to ask a few things about his whole job and purpose and such. Back on topic, Angus, back on topic. Okay. The Bureau's library was probably his next best bet and if not, maybe the Militia's library, since he still had that passcode.
"If I may speak honestly," the Director said, leaning forward. She moved a few sheets of paper aside. "I don't give a fuck how he got up here because, quite frankly, I hate speaking to him. The less we interact, the better. Have you heard his voice? The man sounds like a violin that got beat into a pile of chopsticks. It's not—"
"So you just let him stay?" Angus interrupted, appalled.
"Garfield the Deals Warlock is not a force to be reckoned with, Angus," the Director said gravely. "Sometimes, the easiest way to solve a mystery is to stop thinking about it."
"Well, yeah," Angus said. "But he's— isn't it a security risk, ma'am? If he can get up here, then who's to say someone else couldn't? Someone like— like a Red Robe, or—"
"Angus," The Director said, looking him in the eye. "There are no Red Robes on the moon."
"That you know of," Angus said.
"That I know of," the Director allowed. "But I can one hundred percent assure you that Garfield is not a Red Robe."
"He has the magical ability—"
"He's as much of a Red Robe as you are, Angus," the Director said. "So unless you have something to share—"
"I was— it was a goof, Madam Director," Angus said. "I'm— I'm not a Red Robe." A pause. But could he be? If the Voidfish could erase the memories from his head about the relics, then maybe. But, no— no, Angus had been a baby. He couldn't make a weapon of mass destruction as a baby.
"Mine was also a goof," the Director said, cutting into his thoughts. Oh. Right. Okay. "Angus, I do very much enjoy chatting with you, but I do need you to get out of my office. I'm afraid to say that I have a spa appointment with Merle this afternoon and I need to mentally prepare myself. I think it would be wise for you to stop investigating Garfield and resume looking for another Relic."
"Of course," Angus said. "But if I happen to find anything about Garfield being a— maybe like a lich, or—"
"Can't be a lich," the Director said. "He'd just get blasted off the ding-dang moon."
"I'm— I'm sorry?" Angus asked.
"It really is time for you to go," the Director said, standing. A few of her bones popped and she grimaced. "I believe you left off with the, uhm, the Temporal Chalice, correct? That is— that's a pretty big one." She rounded the desk, doing a sweeping motion with her hands as if to say "shoo!". "I'm sure you can manage, though."
"Of course, I can," Angus said. "I'm the—"
"World's greatest detective," the Director said. "So you've said— and proven, too. Expect a hefty bonus around, uh— midsummer. Or thereabouts."
The Director showed Angus to the door.
"How big of a bonus?" Angus said, shutting his notebook.
"Well, it'll ruin the surprise if I tell you now," the Director said. "Have a good day, Detective McDonald."
"Have a good day, ma'am," Angus said. She shut the door behind him.
Angus love being a detective. That's part of why he was so good at it. But it seemed like every time he and Madam Director spoke, he ended up with more questions than answers. Maybe she was right. They had bigger problems than whatever Garfield the Deals warlock was. Or used to be, if that was anything. He should get back to finding the Chalice.
He paused, opening his notebook again.
It wouldn't hurt to look up more about liches, though. Just in case.

Some watercolor marker TAZ bookmarks I made a long while ago. I realized I never posted them on here.
[ID: first image, six bookmarks featuring illustrations of the six TAZ balance arcs: here there be gerblins, murder on the Rockport limited, petals to the metal, crystal kingdom, eleventh hour, and the suffering game. The following images are closeups of the bookmarks. Second image, horizontal, showing taako from the back, jumping away from the back of the train and holding a box containing a glowing gold monocle. Third image, a shadowy hand reaching for the Phoenix gauntlet , which is wreathed in flames. Fourth image, Sloane as the raven shrouded in a column of vines and a storm, wearing the Gaia sash, looking up at her is Hurley in her Ram outfit surrounded by pink flowers . The fifth image, a robot is hanging suspended in a pink crystal, it has the transmutation stone in its hands, behind it is a portal to the astral plane full of ghostly silhouettes and glowing orbs. The sixth image shows Roswell the elemental (a suit of armour filled with mud with a red bird on their shoulder) underneath an arch that says refuge, above the arch the shoulders and arms of June are visible, holding the glowing and floating temporal chalice. The seventh image shows the black and white big top tent of the game, a crisscrossed colorful background, the arms of Edward and Lydia crossing over each other to cup around the Animus Bell, behind their hands is a red robe with glowing eyes. currently i am in a very taz mood i suppose and im thinking about the ipre members naming their relics
taako, lup and barry all have relatively fancy names (the Philosophers Stone, the Phoenixfire Gauntlet, and the Animus Bell); magnus and merle both go for a little bit of embellishment but pretty much state it plainly (the Temporal Chalice and the Gaia Sash); and there is no embellishment when it comes to davenport and lucretias relics (the Oculus and the Bulwark Staff. like yeah, it sure is.)
do you think lucretia thinks about it? taako names his relic after a legend, of an incredibly powerful wizard. it is not easy to be a wizard. being a wizard is strict schools, is difficult work, is clawing your way to the top. taako and lup can hardly beg for enough scraps to fight over for dinner most days. no wizard worth their salt is going to give up their books to some random street kids, and even if they do, only lup knows how to read, between them. it's a lot of sneaking in and out and pestering and bothering and reading under the hazy light of candles they're not really supposed to have lit. it is years of extreme study of stolen books, years of exhaustive spell practise until taako's got dark spots in his vision and is still saying 'just one more try', years of clawing their way to the top. taako is one of the strongest wizards lucretia has ever known.
lup's relic is no question, of course; she has always loved fire, but barrys, on the other hand, well. barry is a man of science, of study, of experiments. barry is a human man. barry is a human man who is in love with an elf. the word animus does not imply death, but life. re-animation, and that's not really what's happening. barry's a lich, now, which makes him a prime target for lousy adventurers looking for easy money. he needs some way to keep himself alive. he needs some way to have hands, eyes, lips, some way to hold lup, some way to look at her, some way to smile at the way her voice goes all croaky in the early mornings. the animus bell, in barry's mind, is not a tool of death, but of renewed life. it was never intended for anyone who wasn't used to being remade.
when it comes to magnus, it's different. divination; magnus has no magical experience. he is a woodworker, a fighter, he's strong in everything he does, from lifting logs to loving others.
when lucretia thinks about the temporal chalice, she thinks about the cycles one, or most, of them died early. she thinks about that dreaded cycle, the entire year alone. she thinks about magnus' deep, powerful drive to protect. she remembers a study, from one cycle, that stated In the absence of higher knowledge, most or all sapient, rational beings will believe that other sapient, rational beings are extremely similar to them. she thinks about the temporal chalice, and magnus' drive to protect. how they never know what they're getting. the relief on his face, mixed with the worry, when lucretia collapsed against the edge of the starblaster, after her year alone.
ultimately the temporal chalice was used for its goal; to protect. just not in the way any of them had ever intended.

[ID: a 5-panel comic of Magnus and the Red Robe from the Adventure Zone, based on the full version of the Gunshow “Where did that other dog come from / who is he” meme. Panel 1: Magnus looks upset, and the Red Robe watches in concern from the background. The caption says “Being a fighter comes with its own problems. Like, right now I got a lot of questions that need answers.” The word ‘lot’ is underlined. Panel 2: Magnus looks confusedly at an “IPRE” patch, while the Red Robe looks sheepish in the background. The caption says “Like: What... How do I use this”. Panel 3: Magnus and the Red Robe look at June, who is glowing blue and floating while she holds the Temporal Chalice. The caption reads “Why am I in a timeloop”. Panel 4: Magnus points out Refuge’s red-robed statue to the lich Red Robe. The caption reads, “And where did that other red robe come from”. Panel 5: Magnus looks at the statue, frustrated, while the Red Robe hovers in the background. The caption reads, “Who is he”. All text is in all caps. End ID]

"Shy, um, what's going on now?" The giant is once again left in confusion at what's before him, almost unable to believe what he seeing with his very own eye. ((nether-twins Neftin))
Annie leapt backwards with a yelp, looking at Neftin in terror. "Stay back! I've got chemical-laden body spritzer and I WILL spray it in your eyes!"
Shy shook her head, groaning. "Nef, meet Annie. She's me, but like...from a timeline where my life didn't fall apart.
Annie huffed. "Of course you know an alien. Do you have any human friends beside Lo?"
Shy let out a nervous laugh. "Um...well, he's more than a friend."
A blank stare; then, a gasp. "You didn't! No way, no freaking way!"
"Annie. Meet my boyfriend."

You seem v qualified to ponder thoughts about the Raven Queen, so please consider - It's always made me FERAL that RQ in D&D canon is the goddess of death and all that, yeah, but ALSO has a fascination with memories, collecting memories, ect....and this is just NEVER MENTIONED in Balance, an arc which is HEAVILY BASED on the suppression of memories. What are your thoughts on how this second of her big values interplays with her influence in Balance?
Got this ask before WoTC decided to shoot themselves in the foot. But I don't want to leave it hanging because I've been thinking about it a lot. So I'm gonna talk about lore stuff and then apply it to Balance.
4e RQ was the ghost of an elven queen who became the consort of the previous death god, killed him, became the new god of Death, wiped out all traces of her past life, and later added the domains of Fate and Winter. 5e RQ was also an elven queen, but through a failed ritual she got torn apart dr. manhattan style, pieced herself back together from the forgotten memories of the Shadowfell, and while only semi-divine, is steadily growing in power and godhood.
Balance makes RQ a full-fledged goddess, while also limiting her domain to Death. But let's add Memory to that for funsies.
You would think RQ would hold a grudge against Lucretia for her deliberate suppression of memories. But! Lucretia is an abjuration wizard. She used that memory manipulation like a shield, fully believing she was protecting people from their pain. To that end, the memory wipes kept the light of creation from being reformed for over a decade, providing enough time for the Hunger to weaken and for her to perfect a shield spell big enough to contain it.
So I think that just as Istus allowed the Temporal Chalice to mess up her fate scarf, RQ allowed Lucretia to fudge everyone's memories, because she understood that it all would resolve eventually.
That said, I do think there's one being that RQ would not be pleased to have run amok in her universe: THE VOIDFISH.
A primordial being with powers to bestow and deny memory to all known creatures of the universe AND YET. We've been shown that voidfish don't do this with any real motive. To them, it's just a food source. It's as if a mindflayer phylum had branched off into a passive, playful subspecies, and we got a celestial jellyfish that radically affects mass perception and likes ducks.
Now listen to me. Look me in my eyes. Memory is what makes the mortal, immortal. To be forgotten is the final death. That is why we have ceremonies about remembering our predecessors. Just as RQ would rule over those souls, she would rule over those memories, forgotten or otherwise.
So... if the Raven Queen was the Goddess of memories... and the voidfish can store and dispell memories at any time... and RQ's domain includes the astral sea... what if all of the voidfish were actually native to the astral sea...
...and somehow got out?
