I just took like a half hour nap but I woke up and teh sun was down so it feels like I was asleep for a year. I am very much looking forward to going back to sleep. But what a nice day off. I only wish it was longer because honestly I could use a little more rest. But still, a really good day. 

I slept really hard last night. But I did get woken up because the room got to warm. I slept until 930 and honestly could have kept sleeping. But I knew that would have just made me feel bad. 

James had already gotten back from getting groceries and was laying in bed with me. But I knew I had to get up. He made me an omelet. And we hung out on the couch together. I checked on our island and played the bug off for a couple minutes. But at 1030 I wanted to clean. So we cleaned the apartment together and it was just very good. 

I finished my quilt! I had some issues. I had some trouble with the middle because I was rolling the quilt to fit it in the machine and I think it bunched it up so I had to try to pin and improvise. Mom says that the Amish leave their mistakes to remind themselves they arent perfect and that was such a sweet way of looking at that. Made me feel a lot better about it. And honestly I am really proud of how the quilt came out. I wrapped it up to bring to my brother tomorrow. I hope he likes it too. 

Once that was done me and James had lunch/ I had quesadillas and a half of an avocado and he had pesto pasta. I watched him play video games for a little while. And around 2 I left to go to the store while he finished getting ready to leave for work. 

I headed out to savers. I felt really cute today. I did my eye liner for the first time in forever. I was in a good mood. I ran into Cj at the savers which was funny because when I was walking in from the parking lot I said to myself wouldnt it be funny is Cj was here. And there she was! So I kept bringing her things in the store that I thought was funny. It was nice to see her out inn the real world. 

And I did find some funny stuff. A frog pitcher. An artscape pin. 2 horse saddles that I did not buy. I was there for rain boots and a long sleeve shirt and found exactly none of those things. They didnt even have a long shirt section out yet. Still to much summer I suppose. 

But I had a good time. I got a few books. A few enamel bowls. Somethings I think would be a good christmas present. It was a nice time. I also found a whole display of Dark Shadows VHS tapes and that made me laugh. I went through the whole pile looking for my mom's face but I didnt find it. 

And then I was onto the next place. I went to Ross to look for a face wash. Failed but found a face cream. I also got a dress and a shirt I only sort of regret buying. And then a nice man let me in front of him in line for no reason. He was just being nice just to be nice. 

I went to Sally beauty next door after that. I got more hair dye and me and the cashier had to fight the computer to change my address. But it was okay. 

I got five guys for dinner. And ate some fries in the car before I drove home. 

I got back here and took the stickers off of everything. I put things away. I cleaned the kitchen stuff I bought. The gifts. I finished reading my book and it broke my heart. I started one of the new books I bought. 

I mixed up some cookie dough and put it in the fridge and I laid for for 45 minutes that made today feel like yesterday. But I am in a good mood and Im going to wash my face and take the cookies out of the oven and go back to sleep. 

Im going to visit my family tomorrow. I am hoping to spend the whle afternoon just enjoying their company and feeling a little normal even if we are all in masks and giving eachother space. I just want to feel normal.

I tried to eat anything I was given even if it  accidentally had bugs in it because that’s what we had and as they say it was extra protein ;P 

ANYWAY but that’s not the fun part. The fun part is our house. AFter renting lots of random places for years and giving birth to me (her sixth child) in a 2-bedroom rented trailer, my mom had had ENOUGH and told my dad she wanted her own place even if it was a cave, so we ended up moving when I was 3 to the beautiful weird place I grew up in. It had belonged to an animal hoarder and some druggies and had also been partially a hair salon at one point I think?? Anyway it was gross. 

Most of the carpets had to be torn up, there was a hole in the ceiling of one of the bedrooms. And oh boy the carpets that stayed. Orange and black shag. Faux wood paneling all over the walls, rooms that were half faux wood and half tacky wallpaper. The living room was painted PEPTO BISMOL PINK (I told my parents I liked it and cried when they repainted it offwhite). 

The bottom level had been built into the side of an incline, and then someone had decided it was a good idea to plop a literal trailer on top of it and then build on extra rooms. So the top level, which is the one we mostly lived in, had these tiny tiny bedrooms in it like you’d find in a motor home. The living room was down three steps from teh dining room and kitchen, which, for some reason, had a small window in between them ??? And someone put a rickety balcony off the kitchen too and then poured concrete steps to connect it to the de facto front door next to the driveway (Oh yeah so we had like 5 doors to the outside and if we ever got packages from UPS or FedEx they always took ‘em to the wrong door)

So that’s how we ended up in a house that had a dining room and kitchen upstairs with 5 (small) bedrooms and two bathrooms (one of which was always out of order), a stairwell leading down to 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (one or both of which was often out of order) another living room, and another kitchen. There was a fireplace and chimney upstairs and another one downstairs.

Because we were still tight on money, we rented out the bottom level to a guy named Dave (and his daughter and dog) for half my childhood and everyone shared bedrooms until enough of the older kids moved out and Dave&fam decided to move out too which opened up the bottom for us. But I was scared of going down there at first because the stairwell between had been so rarely used up to that point that it always had spiders in it back in the day. We also had snakes living in the crawlspace between floors at one point, and one randomly came out of a hole in the floor one night when I was hanging out in the living room.

So there’s the basics of my family’s Burrow lol our front yard was nicer cuz Dave kept it up, we had 3 big Pecan trees, but our back yard was also basically just a bunch of weeds and a swing set until i was about 9 or so and a neighbor gave us free sod, we had a big family work party to lay it down and install a sprinkler system by hand, it was a very exciting day for my mom, I can’t remember for sure but I bet she cried a little. 

But it was a wonderful little place to grow up in because of weird things like the fact that one of the closets had a window-like opening into the hallway my mom covered up with blinds so I could climb in there amongst the shelves of stored bedding and eat peanuts I wasn’t supposed to and spy on people through the blinds and later my mom would be like why are there peanut shells all over the bedsheets

Or I could make my own paths to crawl through the “jungle” of the backyard, or dare my siblings to climb on top of the dangerously broken down tin shed which I STILL Don’t know the contents of

And all the weird random junk from my dad’s old videostore (precursor to the computer repair store) was lying around and made great props for pretending I was some futuristic... astronaut... time traveler... or something... 

The house was full of music and laughter and learning (mom homeschooled most of us up to high school age) and could hold an amazing amount of people during holiday dinners where my parents always ended up inviting way more people than they meant to, and I helped paint or repaint half the walls in there and climbed through towers made of old computers to sneak my way to the old TV where I could watch episodes of DBZ when I wasn’t supposed to, and my handprint is in the concrete we poured to build the alcove in the weird space between two halves of the house, where a lot of neighborhood feral cats have their kittens, and my parents bed is stuck halfway into their closet but it works, and there are a lot of things that break and have needed to be replaced and it has caused my parents a lot of grief over the years, and my mom really wants a new house now that all the kids have moved out, but I would never have wanted to grow up in any other place.
