When she entered the gallery, the light was golden, the paintings gave off their own glimmering breath and it smelled of money. She was smiling and he was waiting for her, and also shyly smiled when he saw her form brilliantly lit, and silhouetted against the darkness of outside. The sound was already thumping and the crowd was bumpin and she could see the throng at the bar, pulsating in time. She knew that the time was right, tonight, she was on that path of infinite flow, uninterrupted by doubt or hesitation, she surfed her favourite, the rush of adrenaline, the dream unfolding into reality.

They were safe to be, secure in the knowledge of each other, though the crowd curiously stared at both hungry for the story; the DJ and the dancer, the artist and the muse. They were as always, perfectly discreet.

She walked through the crowd at the bar, slipping against breasts and biceps, to behind the bar, against the cash register, dinged it and sweetly scooped up thick pads of rubber band bound hundreds, the fifties, twenties and the new thousand. She slipped them into her clutch and made a line to the next. She called this the harvest, it was the riskiest part of the night, and she had to pull it off as if it were a heist every time. Her body sheathed in black beaded tapestry, her hair like an onyx waterfall, shiny and thick, her face hidden in shadow.

Between the four registers, the welcomed harvest bulged her clutch, she turned on her toes and with precision made her way past his pedestal with a spin for the music, and disappeared behind the velvet curtain. From there she jumped straight through the exit which security held open, and into her car to the bank.

When she did it this way, at least she could escape the fray of the main street rush. And the safe would hold the night's final harvest nicely.

Of course, it wasn't about the money, the art and the business were fun too. But most of all, it was him, and the perfect union of ages old that played out between them when they were together.
