Saw this on Mastodon:
Tumblr media
At first I was thinking about how Optimus Prime could get a human pregnant.
But then I realized Bumblebee got Optimus' wife pregnant and Optimus Prime is freaking out because he knows it's not his. He had a vasectomy.
So this is what it comes to, Tumblr. You have broken me down completely and rebuilt me in your image.

anywho here are maneskins albums ranked according to which ones i like best, if you're also into them i would love to hear your thoughts (this is also LONG AS FUCK)
1. TEATRO D'IRA
this was the first one i listened to, i dont even remember why, i vaguely remember thinking of beggin' and being like,, omg i remember that song, i wonder if they have any good albums. so i googled which maneskin album was best and MY LIFE WAS TRANSFORMED. every single song on this album is such a banger there are no skips, like usually on albums i like there are at least a couple songs where i'm like,, ehhh could be better. NOT HERE. idk which song is my favourite i think it's a tie between IWBYS, coraline, zitti e buoni, and vent'anni (literally that is half of the album, that's how good it is).
anyway i love love love the hard rock sound, but it's also not just that, like there is so much variation but it's all very cohesive. maneskin is known for their unique sound so that makes sense but my mind is still sort of boggled. it has like some harder songs but they all feel emotional?? i dont even speak italian but without even looking up the translation i almost cried from coraline because it was so beautiful. and vent'anni is ON ANOTHER LEVEL. IT IS THE PERFECT SONG TO END AN ALBUM WITH. it like combines all the ideas of the album into one song, it has hard rock elements but it still almost feels like a ballad.? GOD I LOVE THIS ALBUM. i think it might be my second fabourite album of all time now,,, it's just actually perfect. i think it's the best album i've heard in 2024. FUCK ITS SO GOOD.
2. RUSH! (ARE U COMING?)
GOD GOD GODDDDD THIS ALBUM. this is a totally different sound to any of their other albums. it's also LITERALLY DOUBLE THE LENGTH OF THEIR PREVIOUS LONGEST ALBUM (il ballo della vita, which is 34 minutes) WHICH MEANS THIS ALBUM HAS ONE HOUR AND EIGHT MINUTES OF MUSIC. TEATRO D'IRA ONLY HAS 30 MINUTES!!!! YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THIS IS REVOLUTIONARY. okay so this album was at first released just as RUSH! with five less songs, but apparently as they continued touring and stuff they felt they had more to say so they added more songs (correct me if i'm wrong but i think this is what happened). I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS ALBUM, IT IS ONCE AGAIN VERY GENIUS. the songs are almosr completely english. i really love their italian songs, but they have always wanted to write in english so i understand why they're moving back to english.
SO!! this album is so good, it has a lot of extra depth that none of their previous albums had (musically),, except for maybe il ballo della vita. like in teatro d'ira it's basically just bass, guitar, drums, vocals, and tambourine. there might be a couple other instruments but the reason that album is so strong is because of the foundation and stuff. but with rush! there is not only a strong foundation but they also had so many types of songs!!!! there were ballads, there were harder songs, but there were also weird songs like bla bla bla and kool kids. i really LOVE kool kids, i love the punk sound. i think my favourite songs are HONEY (ARE U COMING), off my face, gossip, timezone, baby said, feel, and mammamia but EVERY SONG IS SO GOOD. just like the prev albums THERE ARE NO SKIPS!! that is so crazy for me because even with my one love (david bowie's ziggy stardust and the whatever lol) there is one skip, and måneskin has THREE ALBUMS WITH NO SONGS I WANT TO SKIP. THIS IS SO RARE FOR ME YOU DONT UNDERSTAND. i got off track there back to rush. this album is, also, SO COHESIVE. despite all the different styles they try it all fits together so well, it's such a magical experience to listen to this album. okay so this album was going to be number three on this list but i'm going to switch it now bc im currently listening to it and writing this is sort of changing my mind lol, ITS SO GODDAMN GOOD. tbh i would say this album is equally aa good as teatro d'ira but i have a sentimental attachment to teatro already lol and it's also more my usual style of music.
3. Chosen (this is an ep but whatever)
so this was their first album thing they ever released, it's mostly covers but there are two originals which are the first two songs. the originals are SO GOOD expecially for being some of the first music they ever released????? im obsessed with chosen (the song), i really REALLY love the line "this is not music, this is my life, this is what i live for." IT FEELS SO TRUE BC THATS HOW I FEEL ABOUT MUSIC (i literally do not make music i just like it lol but its like an important part of my life idfk but this line just hits hard) anyway i think the reason i like this album sm is because it's a lot more lighthearted?? i really like the style of their music, how it all feels connected even though it's mostly covers. also i think i like this album so much too because i found this english translation where they competed on x factor and most of these songs were there (if anyone wants the link lmk).
my favourite song by far tho is SOMEBODY TOLD ME. GOD FUCKING DAMN THEY EXECUTED THAT SONG SO WELL. and their FUCKING PERFORMANCE on x factor that went with it was SO GODDAMN GOOD. i love watching choreography and stuff, its my fucking jam, but i dont usually feel actual emotions about it?? like obviously it was very attractive, damiano is stunning, but also it was just so gorgeous..?? i felt real emotions watching that one performance, it was so good. im going to put the link at the bottom of the post bc GOOD LORD. god that was a brilliant performance. anyway i just love the sound of this ep, it's very raw and i really love that it was when they were first starting out,,
also the goofy little intros on both of the original songs on these albums are SO FUNNY why did he do that
4. Il ballo della vita
we've reached the final album :(((( i honestly feel bad for putting it at the end, but the reason it's all the way down here is because there's actually a couple songs i don't love, so i'll say those first. the first one is immortale. i cant tell if its a bad song or not, but i think its good, i just personally dont love it lol. but the other one is "are you ready?" this song is not even that bad it's just kind of goofy, but once again, it's not my usual style of music and it's not something i think i would listen to if it wasn't maneskin.
okay now we can get into WHAT I LIKE!!!! WHICH IS LITERALLY THE REST OF THE ALBUM. this album's style is very similar actually to the chosen ep, except it's all originals, and it's also VERY EXPERIMENTAL. i love love LOVEEEE that. like you can tell this is their first lp by how many different things they try. they're finding their style BUT IT STILL REMAINS EXTREMELY IDENTIFIABLE. on x factor their little music coach guy kept emphasising that when the other judges commented on how maneskin should try different styles and saying that its more important to be recognisable, but MANESKIN DID BOTH!! they tried so many tyoes of songs with different structures and stuff, but they also remained maneskin. obviously damiano's vocals are a huge part in that, he has a distinct af voice, but it's also the other instruments, i particularly noticed vic's bass, and i love LOVE thomas's riffs OMG. this isn't even just on this album. i dont play guitar so i have no idea if he's technically skilled (i think he is???) but i LOVE HIS STYLE AND THE CLASSIC MANESKIN RIFFS OMGGGGG. anyway tho the reason this album is so good bc it has so much variation, although i would say it's not as cohesive as the other albums, even chosen. my favourite songs tho are definitely torna a casa, fear for nobody, and close to the top. torna a case is a BEAUTIFUL ballad. it's brilliant and amazing,, i LOVE that song.
also, they made a documentary about the making of this album which was so so interesting. it was very real, and you kind of get an insight into their dynamic as a band, which was just so SHAJAISISI. but it definitely made me appreciate this album more when i could actually get a look into its production. anyway listen to torna a casa it's gorgeous.
OKAY!!! this was so fun to write actually, i doubt anyone is going to read it because it's so goddamn long but if you did i am kissing you on the lips. here is the promised link to their performance of somebody told me by the killers covered by måneskin https://youtu.be/ADcTUnUJnGs?si=3Iht9sLZn2ZRbuAW
seriously, this band is so good. i'm obsessed with them yeah but they're honestly revolutionary. not only are they basically the only world famous italian band (that i know of at least?? lmk if there are any), but they do so many INTERESTING THINGS. i have been SEARCHING for a modern band who takes old music, particularly 70s bc that's what i'm into, and takes inspiration from it but still makes something original. they are doing so much for music nowadays, obviously there are lots of amazing modern rock bands, but the fact that maneskin is SO popular is crazy to me, it makes me so so happy. and not only that, it's also so amazing that there are two queer band members (vic and ethan) who (especially victoria) talk about being queer. they also act very modest in interviews and stuff, which i really appreciate, and they're all very well-spoken and good at communicating their thoughts even though it's in a second language, which can be SO FRUSTRATING sometimes bc you know what you want to say but it can be so hard in a second language. they are just very eloquent and they act very wonderful (i say "act" and "seem" bc i understand it's a parasocial relationship lol, they could all be assholes, but they seem very, VERY genuine). they all impress me a lot and i am so excited to see what they do next.
damn this is so long im sorry but i had to say this I AM OBSESSED WITH THESE GUYS, maybe if you're also into maneskin or want to get into them you could dm me to talk about them........??..?🥺🥺

Måneskin in Roma, Italia (21 July 2023) playing “Le parole lontane”
This was such an incredible experience and it still feels surreal that I got to see them live in this lifetime. I will treasure this memory forever and I hope that even when I’m old and I get Dementia I will still be able to remember it. I feel honoured to be a part of what they called their “best show ever” (even if they probably didn’t even notice me in the audience, but I sure as hell noticed them) and I hope to see them again at least one more time before I go into the light (lol, getting super dramatic here). Maybe next time I’ll be able to make eye contact with Damiano, who knows? 😂 Until then, I’ll be listening to their albums on repeat and maybe in 2025 we’ll get Teatro d'ira - Vol. II, just saying 👀 (Må, if you’re reading this, you know what to do). I’m excited for whatever projects they have next and I will continue to support them through thick and thin (looking at you, Eurovision 😤) and hopefully I will get to experience more wonderful shows like this one in the (near) future. If not, I’m content with meeting one of my favourite bands ever, some dam lyrical geniuses and four of the most talented, inspiring and koolest (kids) musicians in the industry of all time.
Vi amiamo, Måneskin! You made my life with this performance and I hope to see you again!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹x

I think the non-italians crowd doesn't actually understand Sanremo. Sanremo is not just a tv show, it's an experience.
On paper, Festival di Sanremo is a song contest where a bunch of singers compete for roughly a week with a song, and get judged by journalists, a professional jury and the popular vote by televoting. It is not a contest to choose who goes to the Eurovision. It's a complete different contest where the winner can choose to represent Italy in Eurovision.
Usually it's aired in early february, and the first day is on tuesday right after the 8pm news up until after midnight, while the final is on saturday. Some years you also get an aftershow, where they comment on the night that we just saw. The name of the participants are announced in december. The songs are all unpublished and super secret, you can only listen to them for the first time on the stage. If your song gets leaked, you get disqualified from the competition.
Of course, dresses and general vibes on stage are important too, not for the contest per se, but for the audience who watches and judges how they dress or act. This goes for the singers, the hosts and every guests. Then there's interviews and gossip and everything that surrounds an event like this. The stage itself with its scenography is important too, the main focus point is the staircase and how everyone walks down from it. It's always held in Teatro Ariston, a theatre in Sanremo (Liguria) and broadcast live by RAI, the public state tv and radio.
This is Sanremo on paper. In reality is a lot more than that.
Because it's a live show, broadcast worldwide, and it starts at 20:45 and ends at 1:30 (when it's not longer) everything can happen. And it will.
Every once in a while there's someone who jumps on the stage to shout stuff, to protest against the festival or the government. Depending on who's participating, sometimes politicians make statements in the parliament against the singers. There's always a piece of underwear showing somewhere, a skirt too high or a shirt cut too low. Maybe a host is not even wearing underwear and shows everything to the camera, like Belen Rodriguez's butterfly tattoo.
In 1961 Adriano Celentano sang while giving the back to the audience in protest. In 1967 Luigi Tenco, a singer who was competing, killed himself in an hotel room after the final. In the early 80's all the singers were lip singing to their songs, and Vasco Rossi decided to put his mic in a pocket and walk away before the song was finished as a protest. In 1986 Loredana Bertè sang while wearing a tight leather dress over a fake pregnant belly. In 1995 someone in the audience tried to jump down the balcony into the crowd and the host (Pippo Baudo) had to stop him. We later found out this was staged. In 2001 Placebo were an international guest, and destroyed their guitars on stage after the audience booed them. Many singers brought controversial songs, such as Povia who in 2009 brought "Luca era gay" ("Luca was gay") about this guy who suddenly becomes straight. Many singers also bought their places or the televote, like the trio Pupo, Luca Canonici and Emanuele Filiberto (from the Savoia family, you know, the used-to-be-kings-of-Italy) who allegedly bought many call centres in order to vote for their song in 2010. The did not win. This is also why now the maximum number of valid votes is five, and after that you can't vote anymore. In the same year, 2010, the entire orchestra destroyed their music sheets in a protest against the elimination of Malika Ayane's song from the top three. In 2019 a racist politician complained about Mahmood singing (and winning) because "he's not truly italian". The same year, Ultimo ended up in second place and had a huge meltdown during the press conference and later on his instagram. In 2020 two singers (Bugo and Morgan) who were participating together fought backstage and Morgan changed the lyrics of the song into something insulting the other one, who walked off the stage. In 2023, this year, Blanco was singing as a guest and couldn't hear his voice in the earpiece and decided to break the flower composition on the stage. They are currently discussing if he should get prosecuted and put in jail for this, I wish I was joking. Also in the same year Rosa Chemical, while competing, decided to kiss the host's husband (Fedez) in a staged performance at the end of his song, and everyone is talking about harassment and the pro life organization wants to report them for indecency. And now apparently the government wants Rai to fire Amadeus (the host for the past four years) because it's "too chaotic and controversial", even though every year the share is astronomical. We're talking like more than 62% of share at 2am. And because they made an official instagram account for the host on stage as a skit, there's a petition to investigate if this was all a gigantic spot for instagram.
There are countless of weird songs and weird performance and weird dresses, countless of singers walking barefoot on stage or falling down the stairs, even more countless of controversies and meme. The songs fly up to the charts and some stays there for months. The most italian famous song is "Nel blu dipinto di blu" by Domenico Modugno who won Sanremo in 1958. And then there are the haters. There are also contro-festival (against festival) happening, where the alternative scene has concerts and other song contests. Literally countless of drama.
Sanremo is more than just a song contest, more than just a week. Festival di Sanremo is a collective experience that lasts for months, becomes dormant during summer (when you are still listening to the songs or artist that came out of it anyway) and makes a comeback in december and then february. It never truly ends.

Maria Montez in the Spanish "El Inocente" stage play
Hi!
So thanks to this article you shared some time ago https://www.abc.es/archivo/periodicos/abc-madrid-19690126-135.html I created María Montez’ page on Theatricalia https://theatricalia.com/person/3s2c/maria-montez I hope we can all be finding more information so I can add it there.
Anyway, both the book and the play were published/premiered on 1968 and I found the cover of a 1969 edition of the book online and I wonder if Maria is one of the young women featured: https://www.todocoleccion.net/libros-segunda-mano-teatro/el-inocente-una-noche-lluvia-joaquin-calvo-sotelo-ano-1969~x403295609 or better https://pictures.abebooks.com/inventory/30614081670.jpg
Thank you! :)
🌟Thank you so much for this great information about María Montez II🌟
Wow, this is really cool. You know I was looking for the post about this link you sent me and I just can’t find it? and in my mind I was thinking that maybe that was a picture from a theatre play she did, well, thank you so much for sending me again the link, and thank you very very much for sending me the information and the photos from “El Inocente”. She’s one of the girls in the cover, the one at the far right, I will add the photos here, and I’m going to translate the part of the news that speaks about her cause it’s really interesting and beautiful what’s written in it :)

The four actresses of the chorus of “El Inocente” talk about their work, their illusions and their hopes
MARÍA MONTEZ
Seventeen springs born in Santo Domingo and the mother-of-pearl smile. Maria Montez has a cascade of shiny black hair down her back. As pretty as her aunt.
- I didn’t get to meet her. I was born twenty-three days after her death. That’s why they named me Maria, after her.
No doubt. This girl has climbed on the boards because art is in her blood.
- Making theater is very important, because it is where you learn, but my goal is cinema. I want to be a great actress.
And in the cinema she has already done, for the moment, ten small roles.
- First thing you did?- Die!- But, how?- In the first scene that I shot for the movie “15 gallows for a murderer” I played the role of a dead girl. The same thing happened to my aunt and cousin Tina Aumont. It looks like it runs in the family.- How long have you been in Spain?- Five years. I’m an only child.
During this time she has done children’s theater at the Beatriz, together with Charo Tijero. Then she went to the small screen, where she took part for two years in that musical program called “Escala en Hi-Fi”.- What do you think of the current theater?- That there are very good authors who write excellent works and that I would like to interpret.Apart from cinema and theater, María Montez has two great hobbies:- I love rhythm and astrology. And one thinks that in the immensity of the firmament a new star must have lit up in which tomorrow this name will be read for the second time: María Montez.
- ABC Madrid, 26th January 1969.

Favorite Color: purple!
Sweet, Spicy or Savory: sweet!!!
Last TV Show: i'm absolutely horrible with tv shows because i have the attention span of a toddler. however i'm currently watching junji ito: tales of the macabre and a spanish show that's like 20 years old called aquí no hay quien viva that i watched as a kid and i find it oddly comforting skdjad
Last Film: zombieland with my sister yesterday because i couldn't believe that she loves zombies and had never watched it
Last Thing you Googled: "teatro capitol mapa" because i wanted to watch a comedian here in spain but. fun fact about me. every comedian i ever watch decides to either get me out on stage or make jokes in which i'm the punchline (i don't mind at all, it's funny, but i'm VERY SHY) so i didn't want to sit too close to the stage this time
Relationship Status: 5+ years relationship. maybe even 6, depends on when you start counting?

i had high expectations for songs of a dead dreamer by ligotti considering i enjoyed reading teatro grottesco last year but so far its giving creepypasta horror lmao... cant tell if this collection is really that much worse, if my horror tolerance just increased a lot (<- maybe i just cant find cosmic horror scary anymore) or if its just that you can only read so much of ligottis work before its formulaicity becomes unbearable. either way im using this book to put me to sleep. 👍

Tick, Tick... Boom! Filming Locations
Some people have too much time on their hands. I am one of those people.
One of the things I love about Tick, Tick... Boom is the obvious affection the filmmakers have for the NYC theater scene, an affection shared with the film's subject Jonathan Larson. To that end, I recently decided to try to identify some of the filming locations in the film.
One thing that was extremely helpful in this process was the "special thanks" list in the film's credits, which names a lot of the orgs that were used in location shooting and from which I was able to make some really good guesswork.
Note that this is mainly for location shoots. Things like the recreated Moondance Diner, which was done on a set, are not included in this.
508 Greenwich Street - Jonathan's apartment
Tumblr media
(from MWhiteShelley on Twitter/X) This is probably the most obvious location: Jonathan Larson's actual address. While interiors of the apartment itself were filmed on a set in a soundstage, it is obvious on viewing the film that there was some location shooting at the building, most prominently in "No More" when Jonathan and Michael enter and climb the stairs.
The Underground Theater at Abrons Arts Center - The musical theater workshop scene
Tumblr media
(from their website) You'll probably recognize this brutalist theater from the Stephen Sondheim workshop scene (which, according to this video, was one of the last scenes shot) – it also briefly appears a few shots earlier in the scene where Ira Weitzman is observing Jonathan rehearsing. The Abrons Arts Center is located in the Lower East Side and is part of the Henry Street Settlement.
The Strand Bookstore - "30/90" and Sextet
Tumblr media
(From an article by The Guardian, photo by Bruce yuanye Bi/Alamy) The Strand is instantly recognizable to New Yorkers, maybe less-so for others unless you've visited as a tourist. It's a giant independent bookstore located two blocks from Union Square. Prominently featured in "30/90" and visited by Jonathan during the "Sextet Montage" where he tries to sell some of his records.
Teatro LATEA at the Clemente - Susan's dance recital
Tumblr media
(from their Instagram) This one was a little harder, because obviously it's just a black box theater and how many of those are there in NYC? What clued me in was 1) the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center, where Teatro LATEA is located, is thanked in the credits and 2) those chairs (a little bit more obvious in this photo). I've seen and worked a fair number of shows in that theater, and as soon as I noticed the very distinctive chairs for Susan's dance recital I was able to look more closely at the scene and immediately could map out the layout of Teatro Latea.
The Delacorte Theater - "Why"
Tumblr media
Another easily recognizable location for locals, the Delacorte is the amphitheater where Jonathan sneaks in and sings "Why". It doesn't get named in the film but it does in the stage version.
Hunter College's Thomas Hunter Hall Sixth Floor North Dance Studio - The Superbia workshop
Tumblr media
(from Facebook) This was, without question, the hardest location to find. In the film it's identified as being in the Theater District, specifically at Playwrights Horizons (an Untapped Cities article about filming locations even claims this, and uh, basically gets everything wrong). However, if you've ever been to the modern Playwrights Horizons, it looks very different, both on the inside and the outside, and while they do have rehearsal spaces in a slightly less-remodeled building on Lafayette Street, none of the spaces there look like that. The reference to Hunter College in the credits narrowed it down, and then it was just a matter of finding photos of the studios (this gallery of recent restoration work shows the different angles that you will recognize from the movie), discovering an architectural plan of some planned renovations in the building, and then looking out the windows of the building and comparing it to Google Maps street view to figure out which side of the building it was on.
...I have waaaaay too much time on my hands.
I do want to point out, Thomas Hunter Hall is actually located on Lexington Avenue between 68th and 69th, quite a few blocks northeast from the Theater District depicted in the film.
New York Theatre Workshop - The framing scenes
Tumblr media
(from a New York Theatre Guide article) The real Jonathan Larson's artistic home, where he performed both Rent and the original version of tick, tick... BOOM! thirty years ago. Both the theater's exterior (at the start of "Louder Than Words") and interior (the tick, tick... BOOM! performance scenes) feature prominently in the movie.
Fun fact: when they were shooting the film in March, they originally planned to film the NYTW scenes inside a recreated set because there was a show playing at the theater at the time (though not referenced in the linked video, I happen to know that the show was Endlings by Celine Song, the writer/director of the recent Oscar contender Past Lives) but when filming restarted the theater was available again because of the shutdown.
Any other locations you recognized that I didn't include? Let me know! Currently trying to figure out where Michael's apartment building (Victory Towers) was located – the scene in the car leading to the arrival at teh building makes me think it's somewhere near Central Park, but that footage could also have been filmed separately.

Heyyia Claude! 🥰
Ho bisogno de tu ayuda con una mia fic...Qual è per te la città più romantica della Toscana? E che tipo di attività possiamo fare allí?
Better ask first someone native then go look in articles or something...Seems more legit that way! :D
[Ignore the obvious Spanish I left there... 🤭]
Ciao! 🥰
Coucou, Red! Merci de ton patience 🩷 et pour ton ask!
I'm going to answer in English, maybe it can be useful for other people as well! I'm always happy to talk about my region, i love it so much, so thank you again for asking my recs!
I think it depends a lot on the vibes that you are looking for. I will give you an overview of different options, i hope that they can be inspiring. If there's something you like, i can go more into detail! Let me know if i can be of help with anything!

If you and your characters love art, Florence is an amazing city.
Tumblr media
(Duomo di Firenze, Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, credits pic)
Its art, history and architecture are extraordinary. The Uffizi Gallery (Galleria degli Uffizi) is an absolute must if you love Renaissance. A great way to admire Botticelli, Raffaello, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Tiziano's art, in one museum.
Moreover, you can walk around Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo), where you can see the Cathedral built by Brunelleschi, Giotto's Campanile and the Baptistery, and Piazza della Signoria, where you can find Palazzo Vecchio, David by Michelangelo and Loggia dei Lanzi, and admire their masterpieces for free. 🏛️
You could also visit the Boboli Gardens, where you can enjoy the Italian garden style, created by the Medici family, that became a model for many European courts.
And a night at the theatre could be a great idea for a date! At Teatro Verdi, for example, there's plenty of different shows!
Obviously, these are just some ideas.
By the way, if i have to be honest, i love Florence, and i always gaze in awe at the beauty of its monuments ...but it's also a little chaotic for my taste. Sooo, maybe for a romantic getaway I would choose something else. (It depends on what you like!)

For something more adventurous, what about Grotta del Vento? It's a beautiful system of caves in the Apuan Alps (Garfagnana), with stalactites and stalagmites. Its karst environment is unique and fascinating. 🦇

A Tuscanian city that I love is Lucca.
I adore walking along the old city walls (you can go there by bike too!): a panoramic walkway overlooking the city that conceals secret passages, hideaways and ramparts. Their secular trees make the view magic in every season. In autumn, foliage is beautiful! 🍂

If you and your characters love the sea and the story is set in summer, you could take into consideration a mini cruise in the Tuscan Archipelago. In one or two days, you can explore some of its islands, like Giglio, Elba, Giannutri. Swimming there is beautiful. If you don't like the idea of spending time on a boat, the coasts of Monte Argentario are wonderful too! 🌊

There could be less activities than in bigger cities, but I think you could also go for a romantic getaway in one (or more) of our hill towns. Great view, amazing food, and an enchanting experience! And it feels more intimate than in the main cities. Monteriggioni, Cortona, Pienza, San Gimignano, Volterra... The atmosphere is so poetic...And you can spend some time in the surrounding countryside, idyllic!

For a lovey-dovey day, you could write about a day at the thermal springs! There's plenty of thermal baths in Tuscany, and there are usually hotels and spas where you can have lunch, sleep, have a couples massage and enjoy the hot springs. Rapolano, Sassetta, Sorano, Montecatini,... In Tuscany you can find lots of thermal springs, so you could also have a day at the thermal baths and one in a nearby town.

Wherever your characters go, I think food play a big role if you want them to enjoy their Tuscan trip to the full.
Pasta is always delicious. There are lots of different types of pasta, for example pici and pappardelle (long pasta), tortelli (filled pasta, the filling depending on where you are: for example in Maremma they are filled with ricotta and spinach, in Mugello they are filled with potatoes), topini (small lumps of dough made with potatoes, flour and eggs). Pasta is our first course, in Italy it's not served as a side dish for meat or fish.
(Warning: I'm going to talk about meat dishes. If this makes you uncomfortable, skip until 🌱)
Pasta may be served with ragù (Bolognese sauce, a meat-based sauce), ragù and aglione (aglione is a delicate type of garlic), melted butter and sage, mushrooms, or tomato sauce. 🍝

Before pasta, as an appetizer, you may have cured meats (salame, prosciutto, finocchiona, lardo di Colonnata,...), cheese (various types of pecorino), coccoli (lumps of fried dough) and crostini (slices of bread served with ragù, mushrooms, fegatini which is a sauce made of chicken liver, or other sauces...).

I don't live by the sea, so i know meat dishes better 😅 As second course, a Bistecca alla Fiorentina or a Tagliata di Manzo (beefsteaks - rare is the perfect way to have them but i get it that it's not to everyone's taste) may be perfect. 🥩
(I also enjoy pizza so much, and you can eat it everywhere in Tuscany, but the foods i've written about are more traditional)
🌱
If your characters enjoy drinking, Tuscany is famous for its wines (like Chianti Classico, Morellino di Scansano, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Brunello di Montalcino, Bolgheri Sassicaia). Desserts go well with vinsanto (a dessert wine). 🍷
For dessert, you might go for cantuccini (almond biscuits) with vinsanto (we dip them in the wine). If the story is set during Christmas holidays, ricciarelli (almond and sugar biscuits) and panforte (a dessert with almonds and candied fruits) are some of our traditional desserts.

You may have coffee after the dessert. And, after generous meals, ammazzacaffè (a small glass of liqueur) too. General recommendation for your characters (and for tourists visiting Italy): it's better not to ask for a cappuccino during lunch or dinner (please 🩷)!

I hope this is useful, sorry it took me some time, and please, let me know if i can help you somehow! Je suis si heureuse que tu es en train d'écrire une fanfiction qui se déroule en Toscane 🩷🩷🩷 Je te fais de gros bisous, bonne soirée et joyeuses Pâques 🌷🐰🐣

Palatawan - Bakit Ayaw Niyang Kumanta? - Scene 11
EMMA Mukha tayong magka-batch ah. Bakit di tayo nagkita noong high school? We look like batchmates. Why didn't we ever see each other in high school? PABLO Baka sa Hatchetfield High ka nag-aral. Sa kabila ako, sa Sikomoro. Maybe you studied at Hatchetfield High. [I went to] the other one, to Sikomoro [Sycamore]. EMMA Tangina, Timberwolves ka? Gago, kalaban ka pala eh. Son of a bitch, you're [one of the] Timberwolves? Shithead, you're the enemy [+ particle expressing this is new information]. PABLO (Patawa) Gago nga kami. [1] (Beat.) Sabi mo kanina sa Beanies na nandoon ka sa Jesus Christ Superstar [2] noong high school ka? We really are shitheads. You said a while ago at Beanies that you were in Jesus Christ Superstar when you were in high school? EMMA (Nagmamalaki) Oo, ako kaya 'yung si Mary Magdalene! Yeah, I was that Mary Magdalene! PABLO 2003 ba yun? Kasi yun yung Jesus Christ Superstar na napanood ko… hala, napanood pala kita! Was that 2003? Because that's the Jesus Christ Superstar that I saw… wow, it was you I saw! [+ particle expressing this is new information] EMMA Puta, di nga! Bitch, no way! [3] Bitch, yes way! Because we didn't have a theatre subject at our school, so they made us take a field trip to yours to make us jealous. That's the very first musical I ever saw. I did not like it. That's where it probably started. You're the reason why I don't like musicals, why I don't want to sing. EMMA Wow, so ako yung backstory mo? So ako yung pinaka-kontrabida? Wow, so I'm your backstory? I'm the supervillain? PABLO Hindi ganun ang tingin ko sa iyo, Emma. It's not like that, the way I see you, Emma.
Translator's notes under the cut!
[1] "Fucking Timberwolves! We hated you guys." "We hated ourselves." was such a fun challenge to translate because Tagalog needs so many words to do a reflexive that it was never going to be translated word-for-word. The joke is supposed to happen quickly, and translating it like "Ayaw rin namin sa mga sarili namin" made it lose its punch.
Inb4 "kami rin", that was an option but it's too ambiguous. If Emma said "Ayaw namin sa inyo" and Pablo said "Kami rin," the first assumption the audience would make is that he's saying "We hated you too." Which is not what he's saying.
So we have to do sense-for-sense. So instead I'm making Emma swear just for punctuation/filler, which she does a lot anyway, but Pablo takes her literally and thinks she's actually calling Timberwolves gago (first joke), and then agrees (second joke). It's like if she's said "Damn, you guys are the enemy," and he replied "Yeah, we're really damned." He does it again later with puta, because Paul does it in English: "No shit!" "Yes shit, yeah!" I think it's so neurodivergent of him, especially in conversation with someone he has a crush on.
[2] Brigadoon has been replaced with Jesus Christ Superstar because Brigadoon isn't very well-known where I am and specifically a local theatre group did several productions of JCS but I didn't like them because they weren't actually singing, just lip-syncing. If this ever gets staged and the director wants to change it back to Brigadoon or use a different play then I'll change it, but rn it is the play we're making fun of
[3] He has to drop the title of the show here, so I added another line, because the title in Tagalog is "Bakit Ayaw Niyang Kumanta?" (Why Doesn't He Want To Sing?). Why is the title different? Because that's how I ended up translating the chorus of the first song. I do hate that a bit of foreshadowing is lost (he didn't like musicals, because by the end he does) but maybe figuring out the question can be similarly fun for the audience as well. Translation is loss and compromise.
