Why do all of Andrew's characters dress exactly like Whizzer?

I never like to go on rants when it comes to character interpretations because people having opinions is great, but when I see people calling Larry (The Boys In The Band) and Whizzer Brown (Falsettos) the same character; it kind of rubs me the wrong way.
While both characters do follow the setup of having their partner leave their other relationship to be with them while they stay ‘noncommittal’ (putting this in quotes for Larry’s sake), Whizzer cheated on Marvin to try and not become attached to him and to ultimately have a sense of control in the relationship which was holding the fact he could leave at any time over Marvin’s head.
On the other hand, Larry is a non-monogamous character and doesn’t cheat on Hank to have a sense of control. He’s not solely committed to Hank because that would make him unhappy. Larry admits that he loves Hank, he’s not using his polyamory as avoidance for his feelings, but he can’t conform to a standard monogamous relationship because that’s not who he is.
Essentially what I’m trying to say is that both characters may look similar on paper, but through looking at their mannerisms, they shouldn’t be called the same or carbon copies.

Real quick, I need to go off about a moment in The Boys In The Band which I finally watched last night. Spoilers I guess.
Let’s talk about Hank’s phone call. Because it was SIGNIFICANT in a lot of ways, but the less obvious ones require pointing out the context of the time so I want to dig a little into that.
When Hank says “Just say that I called...and said I love you” on the phone, it’s likely not the first time Larry has heard him say it. It’s likely not the first time the people in the room had heard something like that from one man to another. And it’s likely not something that the people in the room didn’t already know (Alan excluded). And yet, silence falls instantly. Larry, who had been taunting him, turns abruptly and goes soft. And even Michael keeps his tongue to himself until the call is over.
Because what Hank has just done, in 1968 pre-stonewall America, is out himself to a complete stranger when the person he’s actually talking to is already standing right in front of him.
He could have done what Larry ultimately does, which is call Michael’s other phone in the house to talk to him. If he wanted to play by the rules of the game. But he doesn’t, he calls their home. Which has symbolism, both within the structure of the story as a fictional work and to Hank himself; he doesn’t call Larry he calls their home.
Larry isn’t there, of course, so the call goes to their answering service. As Hank knew it would. This is the significance of Hank’s gesture; this is the nature and the scale of the declaration he is making in this moment. An answering service is not a voicemail, there is another person on the other end of the phone that Hank is talking to. And it’s a regular job at the time, like a switchboard operator, so it could be literally anyone. Hank does not know this person.
He then very specifically and very deliberately leaves a message to his roommate, Larry, that says “I love you”. To the answering service employee the message is unavoidably a man, calling for a male acquaintance, and saying simply and incredibly domestically, “I love you”. And Hank calmly and clearly repeats the message as many times as he’s asked to.
Larry is standing right in front of him. The “I love you” is said to him as much as it is the answering service, and it is obvious that Hank means it. But by using the phone call, Hank isn’t just saying “I love you”.
This is “I love you, and I’m not ashamed.” “I love you, and I don’t care who knows.” “I love you, and I will say it as many times as I have to.”
I love you.
Damn.
