okayy really bad for me to post a theory the day before tbhk99 but. just had a realization. i am absolutely certain that mitsuba doesn’t have his school mystery powers anymore for a few reasons
1. this situation right here. teru says it’s a low level spirit, and obviously mitsuba being no. 3 isn’t one. UNLESS he somehow got his powers taken away or somehow removed. this also ties into a theory somebody had on twt with this mitsuba actually not being mitsuba and somebody else, but i feel like my theory makes a bit a more sense when you consider what’s happened in the latest chapter. which brings me to my next point,
2. the severance . we know the the supernatural & human world got separated. there might be a chance that mitsuba was harmed or weakened some way in the process of it since he isn’t a whole supernatural. there might’ve also been something that happened in time AFTER the severance. why else would he appear later than all the others?

and onto my third point, HE DIDNT DEFEND HIMSELF!!!!! after being attacked by a literal fish monster he let himself be protected by kou and ran away. which is very uncharacteristic of him, considering he’s gone into his no. 3 form fighting kou who isnt even a supernatural. this is more like the characteristics of mitsuba before becoming a school mystery, or maybe even sousuke.
4. my last point. it’s common knowledge school mystery’s cannot leave the school. so what was he doing outside of it? again, this can be related to the theory that this isn’t mitsuba or even him making some type of deal with tsukasa.
so! that’s the end of my little rant! if anybody has any theories or stuff related to this feel free to send them in my inbox ^ ^ most of time one i don’t know half of what i’m talking about and i take a lot of inspo from others 👍

Mitsuba didn’t lure Kou into the aquarium, he was lured by it.
This is the real Mitsuba, there is something wrong going on with him, he explicitly told Kou that he is not okay, but even with all the unanswered questions of why and how he was in Kou’s house, it's hard to deny he is the No.3 Mitsuba we know.
When his body started to melt, we see an amalgamation of other supernaturals stuck together, which Tsukasa had explained is how Mitsuba was built
Now, let’s talk about the aquarium!
The aquarium is full of ghosts, but no human. We know this because Kou pointed out every victim are ghosts.
It makes sense in hindsight: The night streets are empty, and yet, the aquarium is full. Kou mentioned the aquarium didn’t use to be there, so is not a physical place, normal humans probably can’t even see this aquarium: It does not care about human, it want to lure ghosts.
And who was the one that was mesmerized by the aquarium? Mitsuba.
Mitsuba is consistently shown to not know how the supernatural world work very well. He wasn’t aware of what’s Obon, got panicked by the severance, and use his mirrors to learn more about the school, he is very new to it all, so I can see him easily fall for a trap.
Mitsuba also isn’t a good liar, as shown in picture perfect. There is no way he would be having so much fun, going as far as to smile gently when he comments on how kind Kou can be, if he had the intention to betray Kou.
He is oblivious to the danger, genuinely confused and surprised by the attack.
I just find it strange.
If he was a fake mitsuba, or this was indeed a trap, Mitsuba could have said “let’s go to the aquarium before i answer your question~”, instead of wasting time letting Kou decide where to go, incentivating Kou to find a fun place of his choice. So I think he was honest, he really just wanted to enjoy the night before sharing bad news.

Making sense of chapter 98
(spoilers)
Mitsuba knows his time is slipping away and wants to spend it with Kou. Playing in a sandbox is not his idea of a date, so when he sees an aquarium, he rushes to it.
The aquarium is a place that only appears at night (as per warning that supernaturals come out at night). Naturally, the enterance is free. It’s a special event that is held every night. Kou will keep his admittance ticket as a reminder of these events and possibly a clue for his brother to investigate.
Why is Mitsuba falling apart? I like the idea that since Mitsuba is a composition of multiple supernaturals, Severance set cracks in his body, and now he is shattering.
In chapter 30 Tsukasa’s drawings of hands also include a fish, similar to the one that appears in aquarium. This does not make sense. Mitsuba is not made out of fish spirit: it’s missing from chapter 34 explanation of how to make a Mitsuba (and it would not make sense for it to appear outside of Mitsuba).
It would make sense that the giant fish that appears at the end is the supernatural that hosts the aquarium, lures reckless visitors with free entertainment and eats them. Is this related to mermaid in any way? I don’t see the connection.
Kou is out there on his own. He will probably be tied by combat and won’t have time to update the group chat of the events. He could send a voice message to group chat, though. Group chat seems important. With his staff sealed and a wound from combat with №6, the combat prospects look grim.
I don’t think any of this was set up by Tsukasa; natural motivation of the characters is enough.
Mitsuba will probably die, and Kou will have to join team Tsukasa in quest of destroying all seven of yorishiros, in the hope that it will let him bring Mitsuba back, for real this time.
The only one who can repair Mitsuba is Tsukasa, but he seems unavailable for some reason, or Mitsuba would have already contacted him.
What will happen to №3′s realm and yorishiro when their owner dies? At least the characters have access to it, via №2′s realm.
