any suggestions for a director i can study in my film class next year? i have to make a short film inspired by their style. i trust ur film taste.
what a cool assignment! the first name that popped into my mind is wong kar-wai. no one does love and loneliness quite like him and he has such a distinct style. another director with sort of similar neon visuals is nicolas winding refn. i'm sure someone in your class will be doing their project on tarantino, unless they think they're too cool for him, but refn is sort of similar to him theme-wise. he's also obsessed with violence and indebted to all the great filmmakers that came before him. and i think it might be interesting to analyze how style became substance, the evolution from his first films to recent projects etc. gaspar noe might be another interesting option if we're staying in this neon and hazy and brutal world. the most obvious choice is wes anderson. i think cute and fun things could be done trying to replicate his style. in the same vein sofia coppola. my bestie david fincher is another potential option, you have the very dark and sterile and jaundiced colour palette, he doesn't move the camera a lot so you got this feeling of being like a fly on the wall. i think terrence malick could be so cool and you can utilize the nature a lot, even though that can be a nightmarish task. and unlike fincher his camera seems to levitate, it's not really fixed. sergio leone could be really fun, you can make your own western, lots of wide-angle shots of the environment and close-ups of faces, everything is intense and almost comedic, some cool music and you got it. anyway these are the ones that first popped into my mind. good luck! 🫶🏼

task 001: sofia leon
La Roche was a small man, unassuming and rather plain looking despite his name and its meaning. There was nothing rock like about that man but it was his name none the less. Perhaps that was what made him an effective spy master here in the french court and why when he stepped into a room quietly filled with opulent and lavish surroundings few if any paid attention to him. When he spoke though in a thick french accent the voice was not mousey or projecting meekness. It was a voice that commanded respect even here. Gesturing to the seat before him he motions for your character to sit as he begins his line of questioning. Even if well acquainted to members of his own court he asks the same. Whether you take the seat is your choice but the unassuming La Roche begins to ask questions and scribble down the answers not once looking up from their notations..
“You have been summoned here this day at the behest of the French court for an interview and we appreciate your cooperation at this time. Can you please state for official records your name, age and court position?”
There were so many things she did not mind doing, but being interrogated like a criminal was certainly not on the list. Still she took the seat offered, maintaining her calm and composed posture as she looked at the man she had added onto the list of men she disliked in France. The sooner she was done from this, the better. “Sofia Leon. Twenty-nine. Crown Princess of Spain.”
“Prior to the debacle of the dance floor where had you been?”
“I was participating in the fashion show that was being held next door to the dance floor. We heard a scream coming from the room where the dancing was happening. Hence the show was interrupted and we quickly made our way to the main room. The rest,” she said, taking in a deep breath as she recalled the fiasco on the dance floor before continuing, “the rest is history.
“Had you noticed anything during that ordeal that seemed personally amiss to you other than the obvious?”
“My attention was on the activity on the dance floor. The only thing I took notice of was the way my precious pearl necklace was torn away from my neck, all the pearls scattering along the floor as that fool tried to chase the dog. Maybe you should investigate what a dog was doing on the dance floor too,” the princess suggested, still visibly pissed off by what had happened. It was a precious piece of jewelry, a treasured gift that had been destroyed along with her dignity and her pride.
“Where were you when the body of the Italian king was discovered and where there witnesses to where you were at the time?”
“In my chambers, of course. I was getting changed into a new dress after the one I wore was torn in the debacle. My ladies were accompanying me, and my guard, Sir Santiago, was standing guard outside my chambers’ doors.”
“Who or what do you personally suspect could have contributed to the unfortunate demise of the Italian king?”
At his question, Sofia had to stop herself from scoffing. For an investigator, he certainly had no way of getting information out of people. If anyone knew, they would not answer a question so directly. “It is not my place to speculate. I believe it is your job to find answers to such a question. Although I am more than certain it was not the plague. If that was the case, other people in the Italian court would have been affected by now, and possibly others from different courts too. We saw how quickly that disease spreads after all.”
“How did you personally feel about Italy’s position in the last five years to six years?”
Sofia held no feelings towards the Italians. She understood that luck was on their side, that their losses were minimal compared to other nations. Jealousy, however, was not a feeling she allowed herself to feel. What she disliked was the way they flaunted their luck and their attempt to use it to gain power. “Luck was on their side and their losses were minimal in comparison to most nations. I cannot harbor any feelings towards luck. As far as I am concerned, Italy and Spain have not been at odds.”
“What reasons would you have to harm the king, if any?”
His next question made Sofia’s eyebrows raise in unison, as she started at him in disbelief. How did he have the audacity to ask such a question? It took all of her willpower to not toss insults in his direction. “None whatsoever. The King and I were not acquainted with one another. Like I said, Spain had no issues with Italy. As long as my country is safe, then I have no reason to harm anyone. King of Italy included.”
Upon the answer of your final question La Roche looks up from his notes to raise his hand before clearing his throat to make a small statement. “Please understand we do require you to stay here on the ground while we are conduction our investigation and that any plans involving travel in the immediate future be cancelled. The French court will handle this matter but we may require your further cooperation. Please send in the next individual, we will keep apprised of our findings once we are concluded” With that he bids you farewell and one can’t help but wonder do they truly suspect murder or is it the plague returned?

( hanna mangan lawrence, cis female, she/her, 27) ** ♔ announcing BEATRIZ LEON,  the PRINCESS OF SPAIN ! in a recent portrait they seem to resemble HANNA MANGAN LAWRENCE. it is a miracle that SHE survived the last five years, considering they are IMPISH, SCHEMING, and INGENIOUS. i hope the plague has not changed them. they are INDIFFERENT TO working together with the other kingdoms
·         listening to: lorde - sober ii ( melodrama )
·         there’s this butterfly that looks like a snake and i keep thinking a creature that’s the reverse of that basically describes her; instead of a butterfly pretending to be a viper, she’s a viper pretending to be a butterfly;
·         i think she has a very...gillian flynn type vibe, so this will be fun;
Beatriz’s arrival in this world came unexpectedly, happened at the worst possible moment, and disappointed everyone.
She was born during an ill-advised sea crossing, while their ship was being rocked by a furious storm that darkened the day sky to pitch black.
The sailors above deck watched in dread as the sea was lashed by dozens of lightning strikes all around them. For hours they feared their ship would break apart, or finally be hit and catch fire. Things calmed only at night, and they managed to maneuver the damaged but still functional vessel into port.
All things considered, the birth actually went as easily as such things could be hoped for, and both baby and mother recovered quickly, at least once they made it back on land. But the incident wasn’t without its repercussions – the queen had been so shaken by the ordeal that she ascribed to it significant meaning.
For years, she’d imagined her second daughter was marked for death, and fearful as she was of losing her, the queen instructed everyone to treat her like a delicate child. For the first years of her life, she was forbidden most of everything, movements restricted to only the safest of locations. She was allowed brief walks around the garden only in the mildest of weathers and never for long. She was kept inside months at a time.
They tried to keep her occupied with lessons and – for her immortal soul that her mother claimed was in such danger – they employed a priest to tend personally to her. Beatriz instantly loathed him and after having to suffer under his yoke for nearly two years, she finally erupted and threw her Bible at him. It hit him in the face at an unfortunate angle, causing him to lose an eye. He parents dealt with the issue summarily, paying him to fabricate another story and sending him out of Spain by the end of the year.
Her insufferable restrictions continued, just with another discipline quietly replacing the time she’d spent with the priest.  She never managed to taste a modicum of freedom for as long as her parents had lived, actually.
She assumes this is why she feels so little every time she catches herself thinking about them.
Of course, by the time the king and queen of Spain passed away, everyone else had already realized there was nothing fragile about Beatriz, so convincing her newly crowned brother to loosen her leash a little was incredibly easy and she was finally allowed to into society. She exchanged the mousy, quiet girls her parents had found for her, for the glittering, snobbish, daughters of nobility, who taught her the language of court.
She thrived, almost inappropriately so, taking into account how recent the losses of her parents were, but Beatriz was always destined to tread the line between propriety and spectacle (even though there is none as those two things are in no way comparable; but if she doesn’t have a way, she will find a way between them).
She felt as though the entirety of Europe was at her feet, and so she reached towards it, finding the most outrageous reasons to travel to different places. Ostensibly under the tutelage of the Spanish ambassadors from various courts, to learn new languages and customs, actually there just for the joy of exploring. She’d always been a little too greedy, but she’d tried very hard to at least be smart about it. Beatriz always knew which things to keep private, and she’d carefully constructed a reputation of empty boldness around her public persona that made numerous rumors slip away like water off a duck’s back.
It was just pure chance that she was in Spain when the seriousness of the situation dawned on all of them. All thoughts of moving on soon having fled, Beatriz tried not to let old resentments flare up when finding herself confined again. At the beginning, she kept herself busy, organizing all sorts of events, soirees, informal parties and game nights, striving desperately to keep boredom at bay. That only lasted a few months, after that the events grew rarer and rarer. In order to survive five years cooped up inside, Beatriz reached out to her sister, certain Sofia was the busiest among them, and most likely to have some task or another for her younger sister.
Now that the fires are out and the plague has slowly crawled away, now that she is finally out of Spain again, she’s eager to make up for as much time as she is able.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
PRE-ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS: maybe your country was one Beatriz visited (I’m thinking of capping her number of trips at four; I’ll add them here as I plot) and they know each other from before the plague started. She would have travelled in between 19-22, so 8-5 years ago. This is basically open for anything: friendships, rivalries, flirtations etc.
POSSIBLE BETHROTHAL: Beatriz had such a hard time during the plague that she honestly wouldn’t mind never returning to Spain again, so she could be described as at least open to the idea. But she’s also not emotionally invested in the venture, so she’s more likely to want to test them and treat it like a game. But she wants to make sure her future husband has a suitable temperament, after all, before committing to anything.
ANYONE/ANYTHING: really, she’s just so…666% extroverted. She’s been talking to the same people every day for five years. At this point she’d talk to anybody.

OLDEST AMERICAN CITIES -
Our History
Founded in 1565, St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied settlement of European and African-American origin in the United States. Forty-two years before the English colonized Jamestown and fifty-five years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, the Spanish established at St. Augustine this nation's first enduring settlement.
Architecture
The architectural legacy of the city's past is much younger, testimony to the impermanent quality of the earliest structures and to St. Augustine's troubled history. Only the venerable Castillo de San Marcos, completed in the late seventeenth century, survived destruction of the city by invading British forces in 1702. Vestiges of the First Spanish Colonial Period (1565 to 1764) remain today in St. Augustine in the form of the town plan originally laid out by Governor Gonzalo Méndez de Canzo in the late sixteenth century and in the narrow streets and balconied houses that are identified with the architecture introduced by settlers from Spain. Throughout the modern city and within its Historic Colonial District, there remain thirty-six buildings of colonial origin and another forty that are reconstructed models of colonial buildings. St. Augustine can boast that it contains the only urban nucleus in the United States whose street pattern and architectural ambiance reflect Spanish origins.
Discovery of Florida
Historians credit Juan Ponce de Leon, the first governor of the Island of Puerto Rico, with the discovery of Florida in 1513. While on an exploratory trip in search of the fabled Bimini he sighted the eastern coast of Florida on Easter Sunday, which fell on March 27 that year. Ponce de Leon claimed Florida for the Spanish Crown and named it Florida after the Easter season, known in Spanish as Pascua Florida. This newly claimed territory extended north and west to encompass most of the known lands of the North American continent that had not been claimed by the Spanish in New Spain (Mexico and the Southwest).
Settlement
In the following half century, the government of Spain launched no less than six expeditions attempting to settle Florida; all failed. In 1564 French Huguenots (Protestants) succeeded in establishing a fort and colony near the mouth of the St. Johns River at what is today Jacksonville. This settlement posed a threat to the Spanish fleets that sailed the Gulf Stream beside the east coast of Florida, carrying treasure from Central and South America to Spain. As Don Pedro Menéndez de Avilés was assembling a fleet for an expedition to Florida, the French intrusion upon lands claimed by Spain was discovered. King Philip II instructed Menéndez, Spain's most capable admiral, to remove the French menace to Spain's interests.
Naming St. Augustine
On September 8, 1565, with much pomp and circumstance and 600 voyagers cheering, Menéndez set foot on the shores of Florida. In honor of the saint whose feast day fell on the day he first sighted land, Menéndez named the colonial settlement St. Augustine. Menéndez quickly and diligently carried out his king's instructions. With brilliant military maneuvering and good fortune, he removed the French garrison and proceeded to consolidate Spain's authority on the northeast coast of Florida. St. Augustine was to serve two purposes: as a military outpost, or Presidio, for the defense of Florida, and a base for Catholic missionary settlements throughout the southeastern part of North America.
Military Colony
Maintaining St. Augustine as a permanent military colony, however, was a mighty task. Without the courage, perseverance, and tenacity of the early settlers, it is doubtful that the community would have survived. English pirates and corsairs pillaged and burned the town on several occasions in the next century. Clashes between the Spaniards and the British became more frequent when the English colonies were established in the Carolinas, and later, in Georgia. As a consequence, the Spanish moved to strengthen their defenses, beginning in 1672 construction of a permanent stone fortress. The Castillo de San Marcos was brought to completion late in the century, just in time to meet an attack by British forces from the Carolinas in 1702. Unable to take the fort after a two-month siege, the British troops burned the town and retreated.
Underground Railroad
British attacks continued, however. Plantation and slave owners in the English colonies resented the sanctuary that Spanish Florida afforded escaped slaves who successfully made their way to St. Augustine, which became a focal point for the first Underground Railroad. There, escaped slaves were given their freedom by the Spanish Governor if they declared allegiance to the King of Spain and embraced the Catholic religion. In 1738 the first legally sanctioned free community of former slaves, Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose, was established as part of the presidio’s northern defenses. In 1740, an even stronger attack on St. Augustine was mounted by the Governor of the British colony of Georgia, General James Oglethorpe. He also failed to take the fort.
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris in 1763, ending the French and Indian War, gave Florida and St. Augustine to the British, accomplishing by the stroke of a pen what pitched battles had failed to do. St. Augustine came under British rule for the first time and served as a Loyalist (pro-British) colony during the American Revolutionary War. A second Treaty of Paris (1783), which gave America's colonies north of Florida their independence, returned Florida to Spain, a reward for Spanish assistance to the Americans in their war against England. Upon their return, the Spanish in 1784 found that St. Augustine had changed. Settlers from a failed colony in New Smyrna (south of St. Augustine) had moved to St. Augustine in 1777. This group, known collectively as Minorcans, included settlers from the western Mediterranean island of Minorca. Their presence in St. Augustine forever changed the ethnic composition of the town.
Second Spanish Period
During what is called by historians the Second Spanish Period (1784 to 1821), Spain suffered the Napoleonic invasions at home and struggled to retain its colonies in the western hemisphere. Florida no longer held its past importance to Spain. The expanding United States, however, regarded the Florida peninsula as vital to its interests. It was a matter of time before the Americans devised a way to acquire Florida. The Adams-Onîs Treaty, negotiated in 1819 and concluded in 1821, peaceably turned over the Spanish colonies of East and West Florida and, with them, St. Augustine, to the United States.
Florida Becomes a State
For the next twenty-four years, East Florida and with it St. Augustine remained a territorial possession of the United States. Not until 1845 was Florida accepted into the union as a state. The Territorial Period (1821-1845) was marked by an intense war with native Indians, the so-called Second Seminole War (1835-1842). The United States Army took over the Castillo de San Marcos and renamed it Fort Marion.
Civil War
In 1861, the Civil War began. Florida joined the Confederacy, but Union troops loyal to the United States Government quickly occupied St. Augustine and remained in control of the city throughout the four-year long war. St. Augustine was thus one of the few places in the United States where Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, issued in 1862, actually freed any slaves. After the war, land was leased to freed slaves on what was then the west bank of Maria Sanchez Creek. Initially called Africa, the settlement later became Lincolnville and is today listed in the National Register of Historic Places, along with three other historic districts in the city.
Vacation Town
Twenty years after the end of the Civil War, St. Augustine entered its most glittering era. Following a visit to the crumbling old Spanish town, Henry Flagler, a former partner of John D. Rockefeller in the Standard Oil Company, decided to create in St. Augustine a winter resort for wealthy Americans. He owned a railroad company that in 1886 linked St. Augustine by rail with the populous cities of the east coast. In 1887, his company began construction of two large and ornate hotels and a year later added a third that had been planned and begun by another developer. Flagler's architects changed the appearance of St. Augustine, fashioning building styles that in time came to characterize the look of cities throughout Florida. For a time, St. Augustine was the winter tourist mecca of the United States.
Newport of the South
In the early twentieth century, however, the very rich found other parts of Florida to which they could escape. With them fled Flagler's dream of turning St. Augustine into the "Newport of the South." St. Augustine nevertheless remained a tourist town. As Americans took to the highways in search of a vacation land, St. Augustine became a destination for automobile-borne visitors. The tourism industry came to dominate the local economy.
Restoration
The city celebrated its 400th anniversary in 1965 and undertook in cooperation with the State of Florida a program to restore parts of the colonial city. The continuation of an effort actually begun in 1935, what became known as the "Restoration" resulted in preserving the thirty-six remaining buildings from the colonial era and the reconstruction of some forty additional colonial buildings that had previously disappeared, transforming the appearance of the historic central part of St. Augustine. It was in great part a tribute to such efforts that King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia made this small city a part of their 2001 visit to the United States.
Civil Rights Era
In 1964, St. Augustine played a role in America’s civil rights struggle when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a local campaign to dramatize national efforts designed to secure Congressional approval of what became the landmark Civil Rights Act of that year. The city now contains a series of historical markers noting sites associated with the civil rights movement here.
Flagler's Hotels
The first of Henry Flagler's three great hotels, the Ponce de Leon, was adapted for use as an institution of higher learning in 1971. As Flagler College, it expanded to embrace a student body of some 1,700 by the end of the century, offering a traditional four-year arts and science degree program. The second of his hotels, the Alcazar, has since 1948 contained the Lightner Museum, (and in 1973 the City of St. Augustine municipal offices). The third Flagler hotel, originally called the Casa Monica, stood vacant for thirty-five years before St. Johns County converted it for use a county courthouse in 1965. In 1999, under private ownership, the building was restored to its original function, and is now the only one of Flagler's three great hotels still serving that purpose.
St. Augustine Attracts Visitors
Some 2 million visitors annually make their way to St. Augustine, lured by the sense of discovering a unique historic part of America. While the venerable Castillo de San Marcos remains the traditional magnet for visitors, there are many other appealing historical sites and vistas. The City of St. Augustine maintains architectural control over the colonial city, insuring that the inevitable change which occurs in a living urban area respects the past.

                                                ABEL COSTELLO
                                       THIRTY-EIGHT – CONSIGLIERE – COSTELLO
Abel Costello was born into an incredibly privileged life. Vacations, parties, higher education. Abel didn’t give a fuck about any of it. He was like his father in just about every way. They both had that quick fuse, the dead look in their eyes whenever you pissed them off badly enough. Abel’s father, Gio, was an asset to the mob from a very young age. He was a ruthless assassin, a skill that he’d inevitably pass down to Abel. The rest of his cousins acclimated to the mob life in a different way growing up; their roles carried more weight because their father was the boss. Abel was just eager to get his hands dirty. He didn’t care about titles, didn’t care about money or fame. He cared about the principle of it all. The Costellos were conquerors, and if Abel had anything to do with it— they’d stay that way.
Abel began training at the mere age of fifteen. It was all self defense first— learning how to disarm someone, protecting himself from the enemy. After, he learned how to incapacitate someone in seconds. His father ensured that Abel would be the perfect assassin. Abel exceeded everybody’s expectations.
A lot of his uncle’s associates didn’t take him seriously at first, but Abel quickly silenced any doubts that fell on him or his profession. He was to be taken seriously, even at the age of eighteen. Abel saw no use in furthering his education. He was fully devoted to the mob. It was a dark and narrow path that Abel had chosen. There was no cutting corners, no sugar coating anything. His father was arrested and imprisoned in 2011 for several drug trafficking charges. Abel didn’t know how his father was caught in the first place. Gio had always been so careful, so discreet in his dealings— Abel immediately knew that his father was set up, and it didn’t take long before he found the culprit.
It was a Sinclair. Of course it was. Abel wanted nothing more than to see an end to that family. One way or another, he’d make sure they wound up six feet under. While his relationship with his father had never been typical by any means, Abel knew the value of family. And when one person in the family was hit, they all were. Abel got his revenge, eventually tracking down Kieran O’Connell and killing him without a second thought. Still, killing the person who put his father in jail didn’t change the lengthy sentence that his father would have to serve. No amount of lawyers could change that.
Eventually, Leon Costello emerged as the head of the family. And with his promotion, Abel was assigned the title of consigliere. He and Leon had been close growing up, so advising him was no issue. They were often on the same page about things -- including their disapproval of Luca Costello and Paityn Sinclair’s wedding. It’s been an exhausting task, but after hours of discussion, there was no way around it. Luca had made the decision long before involving anyone in the family. Whether they liked it or not, he was marrying Paityn. It was difficult for Abel to watch his youngest cousin marry the enemy. The people responsible for putting his father in prison. It never sat right with him, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t feel some joy in finding out that Paityn had been kidnapped on her wedding night. While he does empathize for his younger cousin, he wouldn’t complain if Paityn never made her way back home. Maybe then, things can go back to the way they were.

Gio had always been so careful, so discreet in his dealings— Abel immediately knew that his father was set up, and it didn’t take long before he found the culprit.
Kieran O’Connell, loyal as ever to the Sinclairs, had been made aware of his father’s upcoming negotiation and decided to take matters in to his own hands. From that day on, Abel has hated Kieran so deeply. Normally, those who wrong the family are dealt with immediately, but this was different. It was so personal, and Abel wanted it to hurt. So he was patient. He waited until Kieran felt settled, happy, secure. Kieran’s engagement to Cecelia Jansen seemed like the perfect signal to set his plan in motion. He waited, let them enjoy their engagement, before deciding to cut their brakes late one night, on their return from a trip.
Abel was a little annoyed that they both hadn’t died in the car accident, but it did seem to turn their once loving relationship into a tumultuous one. Abel knew that it wouldn’t be long before he finished the job, but watching them wallow in their heartbreak made his twisted heart smile. Since then, Abel’s kept a relatively low profile. With his father sitting in prison, he knew that he had to play the game right. Abel had always been very cautious, but now even more so. Not just as an assassin, but as a Costello in general. Being consigliere has proven to be an exhausting task. Abel’s had a difficult time coping with Luca and Paisley's wedding. He’s advised Marcel against it repeatedly, but Marcel is not required to accept his advice by any means. He’s forced to sit back and watch his cousin marry the enemy, the same people who they’ve hated for so long. Whatever comes of this wedding— Abel just hopes it’s worth it.

(sofia carson, cisfemale) LEONE “LEO” BLANCO, the REVELER, is TWENTY-ONE and a JUNIOR. SHE is majoring in POLITICAL SCIENCE. In addition to being Quentin’s FRIEND WITH BENEFITS, they are part of the Imperium Society. LEO was probably selected because SHE’S A LITERAL GENIUS, ESPECIALLY IN TERMS OF PEOPLE. They remind me of READING SOMEONE LIKE AN OPEN BOOK, GOING WHERE THE CURRENT TAKES YOU, MAKING YOUR OWN FUN, MAKING MINI DOCUMENTARIES ON YOUTUBE TO FAVOUR CLIMATE CHANGE POLICIES.
Tumblr media
leo was born in hanstings, england, to a fisherman father and a politician mother
although she loved her parents dearly, there was an absence of their presence in their household, especially after her mother was elected to the east sussex county council
despite this, her parents never showed any lack of love, simply attention
from early on, leo’s teachers sensed something special in leo, as she completed school tasks easily and successfully, without much care for it
the family eventually moved to london, where leo was placed into a school for gifted children
leo, however, was still easily bored, and became further interested in the people around her
her boredom lead her to befriend as many people as she could, playing on the emotions of her classmates and their personalities
taking care to conceal her own hand, when her boredom became too much, she started ‘situations’, as she called them, leading her classmates to fighting one another or to do things they wouldn’t have normally done
leo found a pleasure in using people like chess pieces, essentially
as she began to pay more attention to her mother’s career as a member of parliament, she saw similarities in what she was doing and what her mother’s job entailed
she paid more and more attention to politics, keeping up with her hometown through the internet and getting her hands on as many newspapers and tabloids as she could, reading them all and knowing much more about the lives of strangers than most
as a sidenote, she found a fascination in following the lives of the royal family and guessing what was true and what was false amongst the published pieces about the family
she essentially reads, a lot, and has found a soft spot for the environment, which became a pet project of hers in her A levels
she applied to ashcroft because of the challenge it presented, and because of the rumours about the imperium society, which became a sort of obsessive goal for her; she was, obviously, accepted
her parents weren’t entirely sure about the project, but it also seemed something their daughter was passionate about, which was an emotion leo displayed selectively, and therefore allowed her to fly off to scotland to attend the school
the political science program at ashcroft was everything that leo wanted; challenging and fun, leo truly found her place in the halls of the schools and actually enjoyed her classes and even made actual friends for which she cared for
she partied. a lot.
still does, tbh
quentin and she were rivals in their program, to say the least
both of them were similar in personality, but their placement in the ranks of their program made them enemies from the start
at one of the iconic parties held at ashcroft, the two of them got completely wasted and, in one of their usual spats, ended up waking up with their limbs tangled with one another’s
the incident lead to them in a relationship of... mutual understanding
whenever one needed to ‘let off some steam’, they sought one another
leo didn’t really pay much attention to quentin’s relationships, but she wouldn’t doubt that quentin probably slept with her while some were going on
PERSONALITY
think of her as sort of villanelle-esque, but less murdery and with a bit more emotion
I imagine she’d very likely be considered a borderline sociopath at the least
it’s not really that she has no emotions herself, though, but they’re not as obvious to her as those of others? it’s like the frequency is way down low and she has trouble hearing it except in certain cases
gets bored easily
likes to party and go with the flow, which can be reflected in her sexuality (she doesn’t really label it, but I’d say she’s pansexual since she’ll sleep with anyone tbh)
has difficulty forming strong bonds, but once she trusts you and you’ve gained her loyalty, you’ll have her until you prove her wrong
POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS
exes: I imagine she might have one or two ; she’s quite difficult to reach on an emotional level, but I imagine there were those few who were able to pull that out of her and actually have a relationship, but might not have been able to hold on to it for very long ?
enemies: people who either just don’t like her, or that she might have wronged. she’s got difficulty with morality, and I can imagine she might have been the cause of a few break ups, either with her sleeping with one party or by orchestrating it ? maybe she won something that someone else thought they deserved ?
friends: people who she’s befriended. she can be quite charming, and I imagine she has friends who she doesn’t actually consider a friend, but there are that handful of people who she actually likes and who she does consider a friend and actually enjoy their company
fuck buddies: people she sleeps with, either more than once or maybe a few one night stands

Just like every field, being a leader is a tremendous task. One must be able to work under pressure and successfully guide a group towards the right direction.
                           ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Film Directors *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Sergio Leone, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Tim Burton, Sidney Lumet, James Cameron . Anything in common with all of those names? Yup, you guessed it! All amazing directors with resumes jam-packed with blockbuster hits. Do you know what else they have in common? They are all males. Yup! shocker!
In 2018, the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film reported that, out of the 100 top grossing films, only 4% included a female director. To help you put that into perspective, Harvard has a higher rate of acceptance (4.5%). I’m sure you are all aware of the Academy Awards. Well, did you know that out of the almost 91 years of its existence, only 5 women have ever been nominated for Best Director? Did you know that Kathryn Bigelow is the only woman to have ever won an Academy Award for Best Director? This is further proof that the gender paradox found within the film industry, specifically with those behind the screen, is extremely disheartening.
Ava DuVernay, Greta Gerwig, Mary Harron, Sofia Coppola, Lulu Wang. A few of the many talented female directors thriving in the industry. I believe that in order to successfully tell a story, you're going to need familiarity. There’s nothing like going into a theater and watching a movie with a story you can connect with. The inequity within the industry is unfair. There are so many beautiful stories to be told from a number of different background. Stories that have the potential to change lives forever! Hollywood, please give them a chance.

(blanca suarez, female, she/her, 30) ** ♔ announcing SOFIA LEON,  the CROWN PRINCESS OF SPAIN ! in a recent portrait they seem to resemble BLANCA SUAREZ. it is a miracle that SHE survived the last five years, considering they are PASSIONATE, DECEITFUL, and ELOQUENT. i hope the plague has not changed them. they are FOR working together with the other kingdoms
a sweltering spanish summer day brought about the unexpected delivery of the first spanish princess. sofia was born small for her age, but whilst her parents feared for their first daughter’s survival, she immediately showed her fighting spirit. the newborn child thrived and survived against all odds, growing up into a bubbly child with a keen interest in everything that was happening in the world around her.
being shaped into a perfect infanta was an easy task for those entrusted with her education. she always took her lessons seriously, and strived to learn all she could through her tutors and her books. she would frown upon anyone that dared interrupt any of her lessons, even if it was her own siblings doing so. sofia never complained about her etiquette lessons - in her mind, they were only there to help shape herself up into a prim and proper princess. it was easy to understand why her father adored her. with an infant like sofia, spain was destined to gain the most advantageous of unions.
yet as sofia grew up she discovered a fire inside her that burned with a need for more. she yearned for the attention her older brother got as he was shaped to become a king. how she longed to have the ability to make decisions for spain, to know that her beloved country would always be her home. yet she was a girl, and her duty was to forge alliances for her family and her country. even if she was eager to do her duty, she wanted to be the one who calls the shots. she wanted to have power to rule spain, but she loved her brother too much to try and snatch that away from him.
a marriage arrangement had been organized when she was barely a woman. a union between two grand countries, one that promised to be beneficial to both. yet their plans to marry dissolved when the plague broke out. as the fires that engulfed spain made sofia stay in her beloved country for much longer than anticipated, she knew that she would never want to find a reason to leave. once her brother ascended the throne, she found the opportunity to be at the forefront, offering her brother advice and opinions in the interest of her country. there is nothing she wouldn’t do for spain or her country, no matter how shady and no matter the cost, and that was common knowledge to the king. even if he was oblivious to her methods, like everyone else was. she would always maintain her poise and eloquence, whilst her connections made her commands a reality.
the fires have now been extinguished, the plague and famine overcome. but tragedy for their family struck again when her brother was left without a wife and with a baby girl. maria teresa had been a wonderful woman, a true friend to sofia, and her loss left its mark on her. yet the spanish king was too numb and distraught, so sofia stepped up to the role she had dreamed of doing since she was nothing but a little girl. she is now helping her brother rule their country after the devastation it faced, even if she has to do so discreetly. she made a vow to herself that she would bring spain back to its feet, stronger than before, now that the power is (unofficially) in her hands.
wanted connections:
personal guard:  sofia’s personal guard, who has been in her service for years. most likely a knight who was selected to protect the princess’ life. they could have known each other before, or else got to know each other once he came into her service. throughout the years he has earned sofia’s trust, making him her right-hand man. she trusts him with her life, and although she knows how to handle a sword herself she always feels safer knowing he’s around. part of her trust also includes him being involved in her schemes. i would also be up for plotting some sort of romantic relationship or flirtationship between the two! TAKEN BY SANTIAGO DE LUNA
ex-betrothed: a prince sofia has been promised to for years, but the disasters that struck the earth and spain brought about initially a postponement, and now the cancellation of their marriage. the relationship between the two is completely up for plotting TAKEN BY SEFU TESFAYE
lady-in-waiting:  having been with sofia since they were children, the two grew up to become close friends. sofia considers her to be one of her greatest confidantes. sofia  would always ask for her opinion and advice, and has asked her to help out with some of her schemes in the past. sofia trusts her blindly and considers her to be an unbiological sister. whether she is truly loyal to sofia or else betrays her in secret is up for plotting
someone who has spied for her
people who have been spied on secondary to her command.
friends with benefits
friends, enemies, frenemies - anything really!! just come plot with my gorgeous but devious bby and i’ll love you forever <3

The death toll from a fire which ripped through a Greek coastal town stood at 80 on Wednesday as frantic relatives tried to track down people missing from the inferno and coroners began the grim task of identifying bodies. Hundreds of people were trapped in the eastern resort of Mati on Monday night as flames whipped around them. Many jumped into the sea to survive but others died from suffocation, either in their cars or trapped on the edge of steep cliffs. The Greek anti-terrorist service was investigating suggestions that the blaze - one of several throughout the Attica region - was started deliberately, a security source said. Arson is often thought to be behind some fires in a crude attempt to clear forest land for building. The fire brigade said the death of a survivor in hospital had brought the toll up to 80. The service had also received dozens of calls reporting missing persons, but it was unclear if some of them were among those found dead, a spokesperson said.  Some appeared on television to plead for help, and others posted pictures online of their missing loved ones.  "I'm looking for my mum," a young woman told Greece's SKAI TV between sobs. Her mother was Athina Karakoulaki, 48, whom she last spoke to on Monday afternoon as the flames closed in. A father also appealed on Greek TV for help to find his missing 9-year-old twin daughters after he thought he recognised them in TV news footage below.  Sophia and Vasiliki's father recognised them in TV news footage of their escape from the fires on a boat, and is now appealing for help to find his daughters Yiannis Philipopoulos and his wife had spent the day fruitlessly searching local hospitals and through law enforcement agencies on Tuesday, and said seeing the footage of the boat on the TV news had given them hope that their daughters, who went missing with their grandparents, were still alive.  But later reports in Greece said that a man who was on board the boat had come forward to say the girls were his, meaning that Mr Philipopoulous' twins Sofia and Vasiliki (pictured below, left to right) remain among the ranks of the missing.  Greece wildfires: missing twins photo The fire in Mati broke out close to 5pm, (2pm UK time), an hour which is observed as a siesta time in rural Greek communities. Mati was popular with local tourists, including pensioners, and they were caught up in the tragedy alongside international tourists - including a handful of Brits and an Irish honeymooning couple - as well as local residents.  Rescue teams combed through the area and the sea on Wednesday trying to locate anything which could offer clarity on the missing, who are thought to number about 40. "We took our cars and went down to the sea and got into the sea to escape, but there were people who did not make it," said Mati resident Agni Gantona. "We got into the water and stayed there for about five hours until the boats came to pick us up. We were at the beach with about 250, 300 people. "Some were burned, some were near fainting from the smoke and the flames. Groups of us, we were holding each other by the hand and shouting each other's names, because we could not see from the smoke." With most of the corpses badly charred, identification of the dead will be challenging, experts said. "Work has started on identifying the victims of the wildfires but the majority of the bodies are totally charred," Grigoris Leon, head of the Hellenic Society of Forensic Medicine, told Reuters. An aerial view shows burnt houses and trees following a wildfire in the village of Mati Credit: REUTERS/EUROKINISSI The post-mortems and identification procedures are taking place at a morgue at Shisto, west of Athens. Leon said this will involve team work by coroners, forensic dentistry experts from the Athens University's Dental School, and the police forensic service. It was unclear what caused the fire, which spread rapidly through the community. But some suggested that the sheer force of winds, thick pine, fire and panic was a deadly combination making even the most well-executed evacuation plan futile. Greece wildfires gallery puff "Armaggeddon," wrote the daily newspaper Ethnos on its front page, a reference to the Biblical location prophesising the end of times. It carried a photo of a burned Greek flag hanging among the branches of a charred tree. Bride in hospital and groom missing as Irish newlyweds caught up in wildfires A newly-married Irish couple were also caught up in the wildfires. Zoe Holohan and Brian O'Callaghan-Westropp became separated as they tried to escape the fires in the coastal town of Mati. The pair got married at Clonabreany House in Kells, Co Meath, last Thursday before flying out to Greece for their honeymoon on Saturday. Ms Holohan, who works in advertising for the Sunday World, is in hospital after suffering burns to her head and hands, but her husband has not yet been found. Zoe Holohan on her wedding day. She is now recovering from the Greek fires in hospital Credit: PA The couple, who live in Dublin, were travelling in a vehicle when they were forced to flee. Ms Holohan was able to escape to a nearby beach and was admitted to hospital on Tuesday night. The British Embassy said a number of Brits had also been evacuated, with one in hospital with minor injuries.  'Mati no longer exists': Resort devastated by blaze Fire service spokeswoman Stavroula Maliri said firefighters were still searching for more victims and taking "dozens of calls" from people looking for relatives. Winds of above 60mph in Mati caused a "sudden progression of fire" through the village, said Maliri. "Mati no longer exists," said the mayor of nearby Rafina, Evangelos Bournous, adding that more than a thousand buildings and 300 cars had been damaged. "I saw the flames outside the window of our hotel. I thought it would explode," said Alina Marzin, a 20-year-old German tourist who had been staying at the Capo Verde hotel in Mati on Monday evening with her brother and their parents. At least six people died trying to escape the flames into the sea. Some 715 people were evacuated by boats to Rafina, the government said. One rescuer told The Telegraph that rescuing those in the sea was his "duty as a human".  Egyptian fisherman Halil Tafir, 42, said the coastguard asked if he could help the victims, many of whom were struggling for air in the waves, so he set out on his fishing boat.  “They were terrified and nervous," he said. "I pulled them up with my hands and used the rope to get them. I saw at least two dead bodies in the water. And I saw a 70 year old lady who was covered in burns. I tried to save her but at first I couldn’t reach her. We finally got her into the boat. “I was so glad I could rescue them and they thanked me.” The boat could only fit 20 people at a time, forcing the fishermen to make multiple trips to and from the safety of nearby Rafina. At one point the flames were so close they were licking around the boat, he said. He finally stopped rescuing people at 3am on Tuesday morning.  But Mr Tafir says he is no hero.  “I’m just human. It was my duty to help as a human,” he said.  Wildfires The European Union activated its Civil Protection Mechanism after Greece sought help. Several countries said they were sending aircraft to help fight the flames. European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker tweeted the EU "will spare no effort to help Greece and the Greek people", while Pope Francis spoke of his "deep sadness," sentiments echoed by EU and NATO leaders. NATO head Jens Stoltenberg offered the alliance's full solidarity with Greece, whose government earmarked financial aid for victims' relatives. "People are shocked, lost. Some of them have lost everything: children, parents, homes," said Red Cross spokeswoman Georgia Trisbioti. Wildfire in Mati, Greece Were fires started by arsonists? Investigation begins Interior Minister Panos Skourletis said the priority was to extinguish a fire still burning in Kineta, 30 miles from Athens. Near the town of Marathon, residents fled to safety along the beach, while 600 children were evacuated from holiday camps. Officials raised the possibility the blazes could have been started deliberately by criminals out to ransack abandoned homes. "I am really concerned by the parallel outbreak of these fires," Tsipras said as supreme court prosecutors announced they had opened an investigation into the causes of the fire. Showers were set to see temperatures around Athens drop slightly after hitting 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). Fires rage across Europe amid record temperatures The wildfires come as record temperatures in northern Europe have seen blazes cause widespread damage in recent days. Sweden, experiencing an unprecedented drought and the highest temperatures in a century, has counted more than 20 fires across the country. Fires have also hit Finland's northernmost Lapland province. A global heatwave map shows how the UK was another warm blob in a mostly warmer-than-normal world in June 2018 Norway, which experienced its hottest May temperatures on record, has seen several small fires. One firefighter was killed on July 15 trying to contain a blaze. Fires have raged for five days in Latvia, destroying more than 1,000 hectares in the Baltic state.

With most of the corpses badly charred, identification of the dead will be challenging, experts said.

( blanca suarez, cisfemale, she/her, 30 ) ** ♔ announcing SOFIA LEON,  the CROWN PRINCESS OF SPAIN ! in a recent portrait they seem to resemble BLANCA SUAREZ. it is a miracle that SHE survived the last five years and for that reason, they are FOR the kingdoms working together. reflecting on them now, they remind me of THE SOUND OF HUSHED VOICES IN SECRET CONVERSATIONS; A GOBLET OF DARK RED WINE LONG FORGOTTEN; A LIONESS PROTECTING HER PRIDE.  ( rebecca, she/her, 24, gmt+1 )
It was easy to understand why her father adored her. with an infanta like Sofia, Spain was destined to gain the most advantageous of unions.
She wanted to have power to rule, but she loved her brother too much to try and snatch that away from him.
A marriage arrangement had been organized when she was barely a woman. A union between two grand countries, one that promised to be beneficial to both.  Yet their plans to marry dissolved when the plague broke out, much to Sofia’s pleasure. Leaving Spain was an option she had grown to dislike.
Her brother, who maybe was not the person to rule Spain, but the one who held the throne by right.
Maria-Teresa had been a wonderful woman, a true friend to Sofia, and her loss left its mark on her. Yet the Spanish king was left too numb and distraught to rule, so Sofia stepped up to the role she had dreamed of doing since she was nothing but a little girl. She is now the one ruling their country after the devastation it faced, in the name of her brother, even if she has to do so discreetly. She made a vow to herself that she would bring Spain back to its feet, stronger than before, now that the power is (unofficially) in her hands.
