[Yamatonokami Yasusada] Reliable performance believed by swordfighters
Edo period sword
Yamato Mamoru Stable is famous for being used by Shinsengumi Ichiban Soji, Soji Okita, Shinsengumi, Kojiro Oishi, and Bakushin, Hachiro Iba.
What kind of swordsmith did Yamatonokami Yasusada live in?
Mamoru Yamato is a swordsmith from Musashi Province who was active during the Edo period. A sword sword with a sharp edge that is suitable for combat and is classified as a "good work" in the sword evaluation report "Kaihokenjaku" published in 1797. It was very popular with us. It seems that the style was similar to Toru for some reason.
By the way, Musashi Province, where he was active as a swordsmith, is the area that spans Saitama, Tokyo, and Kanagawa prefectures, and was also called Musashi. Tama in this area is also famous as the birthplace of the members of the test center, which played a central role in the Shinsengumi.
What is Yamada Asaemon, the author of "Kaiho Kenshaku"?
It was a ronin named Asaemon Yamada who wrote the "Kaihokenshaku". Yamada Asaemon was ordered by the Shogunate to perform trial slashing and executions, and was called "Tameshigiri Asaemon" or "Hitozuri Asaemon". There was also.
Originally, it was the role of the shogunate, which had a long history of use, but since it took a lot of skill to kill people, I was afraid that some people might not have the skills in the hereditary system, so I dared to do it. It is said that he remained a ronin. In fact, even if there was a boy in the head, that child was not always the heir, and he chose a successor from among the many disciples he took.
"Kaiho Kensaku" is a swordsmith evaluation report that summarizes the results of such trial slashing work, and it starts from the one that cuts well.
13 top-class products
21 big business
50 good works
80 works
65 works mixed with large-scale products, good-quality products, and business products
A total of 228 swordsmiths are classified into the above 5 types and evaluated.
Owners of Mamoru Yamato
Shinsengumi Ichiban Squad Leader, Soji Okita
Souji Okita, who was said to be the strongest in the Shinsengumi, used this stability of Yamato Mamoru. Souji, who used a sword that looked exactly like Isami Kondo and longed for courage to say that even the shouts were similar, did he prefer a sword that resembled Isami's beloved sword "Tora Toru"?
Shinsengumi member, Kojiro Oishi
The sword of Kojiro Oishi, who was mainly undertaken for assassination in the Shinsengumi and was feared to be a "human sword Kojiro," was also stable by Mamoru Yamato. Although he disappeared from the squad after the Battle of Koshu Katsunuma, he was captured by the new government army and was beheaded on October 10, 1897, as the perpetrator of the assassination of Ito Kashitaro in Aburanokoji.
Bakushin, Hachiro Iba
At the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, Hachiro Iba's sword, which was famous as a swordsman with a sword, was also stable by Mamoru Yamato.
After his childhood, when he was nicknamed "Iba no Kotengu" and "Iba no Kirinji," he became a vassal of the shogun, served as a guard for the shogun, and served as a professor in the martial arts of the shogun's master and pupil. In the turbulent period of, he was assigned to the actual combat unit in anticipation of his arm, and lost his left arm during the fierce battle. Nevertheless, Iba continued to fight, and fought to Hokkaido, commanding the troupe with his arms and fighting hard. However, in the battle in Kikonai, he was hit on the chest and was fatally injured, and he himself suffered suicide by drinking the morphine offered by Takeaki Enomoto. He has a strong spirit, and even if he loses his arm or receives a bullet in his chest, he never said that it hurts until the end.

Precision is one of the hallmarks of Chinese Swordsmanship (jianfa, 劍法). Testing Cutting was a nearly forgotten tradition in Chinese Swordsmanship that has been revived at Great River Taoist Center. Cutting a Candle wick requires the greatest accuracy of any target one can choose. Hitting the top of the wick will not extinguish the flame. It is one of the few cuts that missing by 3 or 4 MM means failing. Chinese martial oral tradition speaks of quick drawing the sword from the scabbard, however these techniques appear to have been lost to time. The method presented here is a reconstruction based on the oral tradition as well as primary sources.
Teacher Scott M. Rodell preformed the cuts in this video with the sword he designed, the Hanwei Cutting Jian. He is the director of Great River Taoist Center based in Washington, D.C. as well as the author of several books including: "Chinese Swordsmanship - the Yang Family Taiji Jian Tradition," “Shi Jian Pu - Manual of Ten Sword Skills - A Handbook of Chinese Swordsmanship,” “Fundamentals of the Wudang Sword Method,” "Test Cutting for Historical Swordsmanship," "Taiji Notebook for Martial Artists," and "Traditional Manchu Archery of the Qing Imperial Guard." Rodell teaches regular seminars across the US and Canada, and in Netherlands, Estonia, Germany and Poland.

Blades at their Finest…
Have you been thinking lately about getting a sword for yourself? Whether it is from an anime you have watched, a movie with great sword fights, and you were like “I got to have one of those.” Whether it would be for decoration, something to show your friends, or use it (but of course not to cause harm, or not use it in any bad manner). If so, then let me introduce to you...
Geisha’s Blade
Tumblr media
When it comes to online sword shops, here in the Philippines, Geisha’s Blade is the first and only shop of such. It was formed by Jaimee L. and Aldwin P., who both have a love for Japanese tradition, culture, and arts. They got many swords to choose from, and they are committed to providing us only the finest quality of swords for a very long time. From the time Geisha’s Blade started way back in 2008, or 2005 if we are to include the time that they are only selling swords as a hobby through online platforms such as eBay Philippines. You see, 15 years of being committed to what they do. They will not be here this long if the quality of the swords are questionable.
Their main  product line are shinkens, or modern crafted katana),made specifically for tameshigiri or cutting practice. These are hand forged, heat treated, water/oil quenched, and then polished by hand. Swords are forged using machines at a minimum. Aside from swords, Geisha’s Blade also offers iaito (non-sharpened katana), sword cleaning kits, sword stands, sageo cords, re-wrapping of the handle (tsukamaki) and other customization. They also offer high quality samurai armors crafted by the highly skilled craftsmen of Iron Mountain Armory.
Now I am sure that, if not all, many of us know the movie Rurouni Kenshin. The live-action adaptation of the manga of the same name. This action-packed movie, including the sequels has made their impact to the hearts of those who have watched it regardless if a fan of the manga or the anime. If you are one of those who have watched it, I am pretty sure you are also one of those who have had their inner child burst out in happiness, and said to themselves, “I would love to have that kind of sword”.
Well, Geisha’s Blade is the place to go, as they offer a replica of Kenshin Himura’s Sakabatou Katana:
Tumblr media
Or, who here does not know the infamous character Sephiroth, of the seventh installment of the Final Fantasy game series? I am pretty sure that many of us especially those who are what we call gamers know this character. This well-known character has a pretty awesome sword called Masamune. I know that the first time it showed up on the game even if the graphics way back is not that good, to the computer-animated film such as the Advent Children, and now to the Final Fantasy VII Remake available in PlayStation 4, many of us are wanting to have that cool sword, and Geisha’s Blade offers this for us, the replica of Sephiroth’s Masamune from Final Fantasy VII:
Tumblr media
And, last for the sample, who here has ever dreamed of becoming the Witcher? Whether you were inspired by the book, the game, or the Netflix Series, because I am telling you, they got one for you. Be the mighty Geralt of Rivia when you own this sword replica, swing on some bamboos and other stuff (safely of course), and feel the power inside of you with this sword:
Tumblr media
Those are just three of the many swords they are offering, there are a lot more to choose from.
Please keep in mind that the availability of the sword can be checked on their website. Most swords, especially those that are from famous movies, series, anime can easily be out of stock due to popularity.
In case that at this point, you are still asking if these swords work and not just for displays, then they got the answer for you, as they have their own Youtube Channel which includes videos of them safely testing the swords. Impressive, am I right?
One of their videos is a cutting test for their replica of Michonne’s Katana from the famous Television Series, The Walking Dead. So if you are one of The Walking Dead die-hard fans, this video is for you:

What’s more impressive? Is that they have been featured in so many well-known exhibit and conventions such as the History Con, and the EIGASAI Japanese Film Festival:
Tumblr media
The exhibit at the 22nd EIGASAI Japanese Film Festival was their longest exhibit which run for a month, and of course, who here doesn’t know the famous History Con? This famous convention which features a lot of things, and features icons.

Maybe at this point, you are now wanting to buy your dream sword, but you are like me who worries about payment methods as they do not have a physical store yet, and everything has to be processed online, with the most common payment methods such as bank deposit and online fund transfer, If you are like me, you need not to worry, as Geisha’s Blade now offers a Cash on Delivery payment method, to ease our minds. Great isn’t it?
However, please be advised that Cash on Delivery term has more shipping charge compared to other payment methods such as bank deposit, online fund transfer, and other payment methods available. The additional charge is to cover the courier’s fee for this service. The additional fee is 150 Pesos for shipping within Metro Manila, and 300 Pesos for outside Metro Manila, and this is on top of the shipping fee. A small price to pay for our peace of mind when it comes to paying.
So, with all these that you have discovered about them, what are you waiting for? You can check them out now to see available swords, sword quality, a lot more, and discover the awesomeness of Geisha’s Blade. Maybe they have the sword you have been wanting to have ever since, or has been your childhood wish, they can fulfill your dreams.

Katana blade variations
The Japanese katana blade is not only a popular type of sword in the Japan but it is also a popular sword all over the world. When we think about the warriors of the Japan it is the samurai’s that come in our minds and the sword used by them called the katana. It is a curved weapon with a single edge. It was used for cutting and slicing. The blade is sharp enough to cut the body of a man. It could also be used for cutting hard wood. The katana sword first appeared around 1400 C and it was made by using various skillful techniques. It is not the work of a single person but more than a dozen people were involved in making one katana sword. It also took many months for making a katana sword.  The katana is believed to be the soul of the warrior.

Traditional katana swords were made of a special material called the tamahagane and it was also called as the jewel steel.  To prepare this special steel, sword smiths have to fold and hammer the layers of iron many times and they have to heat it at a high temperature to increase its strength. The iron ore never reaches a molten state and it is melded and refined till the carbon percentage reaches between 0.5 to 1.5 percent. This resulted in a low carbon content that is soft and unbreakable. The core is covered by high carbon metal and it helped to make the distinctive curve of the blade.  The tamahagane steel is about 50 times costly than the ordinary steel. The tamahagane steel is much better than the ordinary steel and it is only used for making high quality katanas.
The cutting efficacy of the samurai sword was tested by a technique called as Tameshigiri which means test cut.  Street dogs were used for this practice. They would be beheaded and then used for making practice cuts. The spirit of the samurai creates a good reflection of the culture and history of Japan. The characteristics of the samurai differed from the ordinary soldiers and so their swords also differed from the other warriors of the Japan.
