Kijimuna are legendary small tree spirits from the Okinawa Islands in Japan, who live in trees (generally old banyan trees). They are said to look about 3 or 4 years old and have red hair.
Another name for the kijimuna is bungaya, which means roughly large-headed. The Kijimuna are known to be very mischievous, playing pranks and tricking humans. One of their best-known tricks is to lie upon a person's chest, making them unable to move or breathe such as sleep paralysis. Even though the Kijimuna are tricksters, they have been known to make friends with humans.
They are skilled fish catchers and only eat the left or both eyes of the fish they catch. Therefore, if you become friends with a Kijimuna, you can always get a fish and become rich. They are good at diving and fishing and catch a lot of fish in seconds. But all the fish they catch have no eyes. They can also run around on the water surface and can stand on the water while carrying people.
They are extremely hatred of hot pot lids, octopus, chickens and human farts, and it is forbidden to let them near the Kijimuna. They also die (or are forced to move to another tree), if a nail is driven into the tree in which they live. They will take terrible retribution, including murder, against anyone who breaks these prohibitions.
Nevertheless, as long as one do not break these prohibitions, they are basically harmless to humans, and many lores say that they are "good neighbours" with humans.
[History of Ryukyu Islands (collective name for Amami Islands, Okinawa Islands, Miyako Archipelago and Yaeyama Archipelago)]
The Ryukyu Islands are known to have been inhabited by humans for about 32,000 years.
The Ryukyu Kingdom was a monarchy, existed in the southwestern islands of Japan for about 450 years, from 15th century to 19th century. It developed through diplomacy and trade with China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asian countries, and the castle of the Ryukyu dynasty, Shuri Castle, was the political, economic and cultural centre of its maritime kingdom. In the late 19th century, the Japanese Government, dispatched troops to oust King Shoutai from Shuri Castle and proclaimed the establishment of Okinawa Prefecture (Ryukyu Disposition). Here, the Ryukyu Kingdom was destroyed.
Genetic studies have shown that populations in the Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa Islands, Miyako Archipelago and Yaeyama Archipelago) have no direct genetic link to mainland China or Taiwanese populations and have identical paternal lines to mainland Japan, and nuclear DNA analysis in 2018 showed that genetically, Ryukyuans are the most closely related, followed by mainland Japanese, from the Ainu (Ref) perspective.
Furthermore, in 2021, a paper on archaeogenetics published in the journal Nature stated that DNA analysis of prehistoric human bones excavated from the Nagabaka (lit. Long graveyard) site in Miyakojima City showed that they were "100% pure Jomon", a research finding that indicates that prehistoric archipelago people came from the Okinawa Islands.
Hikaru Takeda's life has been filled with pain and loss. Losing her mother at an early age to the Kitsune, an avatar of creation that had been split in half by the Trios - the three expressions of the God of the World when it was corrupted by her ancestor. Hikaru would grow up under the cruel tutelage of her grandmother. Forced to watch her mother's memory being erased from the clan's lineage.
An ever growing rift between Hikaru and her grandmother led her to be rebellious - entering a relationship with a war orphan taken by the clan to be trained as a foot soldier for the matriarchy. Hikaru would become pregnant with their first child and lose it when her grandmother learned of their relationship banished Isao to the harsh terrain of the outer rim of the Clan's territory. Like her mother, Hikaru's child would be placed in an unmarked grave with no honors.
This act only cemented Hikaru's growing frustration and anger. While she took her lessons in earnest. She grew to despise her grandmother who only thought of the traditions and legacy of the family at the expense of everything else.
Her grandmother would send her to the twin continent Summerset to recruit the outsider to the world Pat O'Conner whom possessed the good side of the Kitsune so he could finish the Sunlight Sword. During this time, her grandmother would pass away quietly while Isao returned to her life. Their joyous reunion would lead to the birth of Eri and the death of Isao, who gave his life to protect Hikaru from the Kitsune when it squashed the good side and become whole once more.
With rage and grief in her heart, Hikaru would slay the creature. Killing the host in the process. Up until she was aware she was pregnant with Isao's child, Hikaru tried to drink her depression away. With Eri's birth, Hikaru managed to overcome her depression to be a mother but the loss of Isao still weighed heavily on her heart.
Hikaru would get no peace when the desperate Oda clan attacked and killed the remaining warriors of the Takeda clan. Hikaru and her cousin Syuri would nearly die escaping.
The aid of Pat O'Conner's friend Crystal and a new weapon turned the tide. Allowing her to regain her castle. Hikaru would be forced to part with some of the Clan's mystical iron ore as payment.
What awaits her is a growing legend of a remarkable woman.

Shuri Castle - Burning castle of the Ryukyu Dynasty (Ref)
Shuri Castle, the royal castle of the Ryukyu Dynasty, was once the political, economic and cultural centre of that maritime kingdom. The date of construction of Shuri Castle is not known, but it is thought to have been built in the late 13th and 14th centuries during the Gusuku period.
Until the end of the 16th century, the Ryukyu Kingdom remained independent in turbulent East Asia, as did Korea and Vietnam, but was invaded and ruled by the Satsuma clan (now Kyusyu, Japan), and became a vassal state in the early 17th century.
After several fires and war damage, and repeated rebuilding, the World Heritage Site Shuri Castle was once again destroyed by a sudden fire on 31 October 2019, which lasted about eight hours and destroyed nine buildings and historical heritage sites, including the main hall. It is currently being rebuilt with a view to restoration in 2026.
The first burning occurred in 1453 during the struggle for the throne that followed the death of King Shō Kinpuku of the 1st Shō dynasty (Shiro-Furi Rebellion), when the castle was completely destroyed. The second fire, in 1660, took 11 years to rebuild, and the third fire in 1709 destroyed the main, north and south halls.
After the Ryukyu Disposition following the establishment of Okinawa Pref. by Japanese Government in 1879, the main hall and other buildings of Shuri Castle lost their role as the seat of government and were sold to the Japanese Army's 6th Division (Kumamoto, Japan) as a military camp and then to Shuri Ward (later Shuri City), which used them as school buildings for girls' schools.
It was almost completely destroyed during the Battle of Okinawa (WWⅡ) in 1945 and the construction of the University after the war, leaving only a small portion of the castle walls and building foundations remaining.
Full-scale reconstruction was considered in the 1980s, and the restoration work, which took about 40 years, was completed in January 2019. In October of the same year, a mysterious fire destroyed the castle again.
Shuri Castle, which has been repeatedly persecuted and burnt down but continues to revive, seems to symbolise Ryukyuan culture itself.
