Legends and myths about trees
Celtic beliefs in trees (24)
Ss for Straif (Blackthorn) - Samhain/Hallowe'en, opening the veil between this world and the spirit world…
“Mother of the Forest – The Celtic Tree Calendar (Ref), The Beginning of Winter”
Colour: red; Star: Mars, Saturn; Gemstone: black opal; Gender: female; Patron: Morrigan; Symbol: inevitability of death, protection + revenge, discord + insidiousness
Blackthorn forms vigorous young trees from the roots, from which dense, thorny bushes grow in dense clumps. Armed with sharp thorns, which can damage human skin. It already starts flowering in early spring, at the beginning of March, and with the onset of winter it produces black berries, commonly known as 'sloes'.
Samhain is the most important festival in the Celtic world, celebrated on 1st November to mark the beginning of winter and therefore the new year. The name 'Samhain' means 'end of summer'. The seasons change from summer to winter (the time of the dead) with this festival. It is a period of short days and darkness, but it is a necessary period for nature to enter a peaceful rest and welcome the bright spring. In the calendar of agricultural societies, this is an important stage for the germination of crop seeds.
Samhain was the solemn festival, when fires were lit and sacrifices were offered to gods such as Taranis and Teutates. Importantly, it was believed that on the eve of this day, 31 October, a passage between this world and the spirit world was opened, allowing inhabitants from the other world to come and visit this world freely and interact with humans in this world. However, while the comings and goings were sometimes favourable, it was also envisaged to be dangerous.
On the Samhain eve, children went from house to house to collect festive offerings. It was also customary to celebrate Samhain by placing a brightly burning candle inside a hollowed-out turnip at the entrance to the house.
Blackthorn is a tree traditionally used for black magic and witchcraft, and its thorns remind us of our own insidious roots. We must remember that we hurt ourselves and others in many ways. If we think about how to avoid hurting each other and courageously face our own insidious roots, blackthorn can guide us to overcome this dark side of our human nature and help us to return the debts of our hearts.
It also helps us to accept the fact that death is something from which no one can escape.

Myth is promiscuous, not dogmatic. It moves like a lively river through swarthy packs of reindeer, great aristocratic families, and the wild gestures of an Iranian carpet seller. Myth is not much to do with the past, but a kind of magical present that can flood our lives when the conditions are just so. It is not just the neurosis of us humans trying to fathom our place on earth, but sometimes the earth actually speaking back to us. That's why some stories can be hard to approach, they are not necessarily formed from a human point of view.

That bloodstained son of Tuoni / struck the man with his sword, struck fear with his hunger. / Threw him to the stream of Tuonela / to the Underworld's underlake. — Kalevala, rune 14, lines 445–8; 451-2.
My rendition of Tuonenpoika, the guardian of the Finnish underworld, Tuonela; This gore-covered son of Tuoni fishes for unwanted visitors downstream, slaying them. He is said to collect the belongings of all the dead flowing down river Tuoni.

B'Elanna, Neelix, Tuvok and Chakotay needed to star in an episode where they just talked about their different beliefs and approaches to spirituality/religion. Paired off and all together. I need to gain more insight. I need characterization and I need it to be messy.
#B'Elanna's difficulty with Klingon myths and religion (especially due to her internalized racism)#Chakotay's current strong belief in his own spirituality despite his initial complete rejection of it (and how B'Elanna seems to admire#and have talked with Chakotay about it extensively in the past given how many specifics she's aware of)#Neelix's belief in an afterlife being the only thing that comforted him after his entire family was killed - the knowledge that he would be#able to reunite with them again and that knowledge being ripped away from him#Does he still believe? Are there other aspects of his previous spiritual beliefs that are thrown into question?#Just because it isn't 'real' does it make it unimportant? How do we even know whether or not it's 'real'?#He died and doesn't remember reaching that tree and seeing his family - does that mean it didn't happen?#Tuvok's line in 'Innocence' about how he's begun to have doubts about whether or not a katra exists and what happens after someone dies#and his firm ties to Vulcan spirituality and ritual#ALL SO INTERESTING!!!!!!!!#star trek voyager#I don't think it'd be a calm or healthy conversation either - they're not therapists and I don't think anyone but Chakotay#would be particularly careful with his words#and before you say Tuvok's a Vulcan so he would be let me remind you that Tuvok told B'Elanna to her face that he thought Klingons#were basically savages - he is INDELICATE to say the least#Neelix is careful with his words bc he's a people pleaser for survival but also he has a tendency to bother people and be overly pushy#and I think he'd do a lot of research and be the one leading the conversation/the reason they get on the topic and continue on it#B'Elanna wouldn't want to talk about it. She wants to talk about it the least. But she must!!!! Bc the episode demands it!!#st voy

Legends and myths about trees
Forest myths, Estonian traditional beliefs (6)
The world of the Estonians’ ancestors – Metsik, the forest elves
Metsik is the elf of the woodlands. According to ancient Estonian folklore, Metsik were wood elves who lived everywhere there were trees, from coniferous woodlands to shallow swamp forests. When Metsik appears to people, they assume the appearance of a bird, a wild animal, or a beautiful tree. A singing bird who truly is Metsik sings songs that humans can understand. They can also understand the language of the aspen tree that rustles in the wind for that aspen tree is Metsik.
If birdsong is heard, it may be a Metsik singing. People can hear Metsik in an aspen tree that rustles in the wind. Metiks are the guardian spirits of the forest. They do not approve of cutting down trees, bonfires and, above all, waste dumping. When people enter the forest with cruel intentions, Metik misleads them away from their sacred home.

I'm not ashamed to admit that when I saw that minotaur sculptire I immediately thought about Roman!König since he's often to be described as burly and bull-like, plus I'd like to mention thqt bulls were the symbol of like strength, fertility and virility :')))
Yes! YES you are shameless and I love you for it because that was my exact same thought as well!! Perhaps he's a bit longer than that *chills* and not as insanely thick (like I imagine Roman!König having a crazy schlong tbh, lol imagine him in that short tunic on a breezy day....👀)
And yes he's strong and virile and fertile like a bull! And oh god, I gotta tell you Fatum fic is *this 🤏* close to having a breeding kink tag slapped on it, I've been writing their first time and König is already fixated on knocking her up O_O

The forest has awakened to the sound of our footsteps. Slowly we moved through the frosted branches and mossy path. Above us, the fog persisted, even though the sun had already risen.
In the fog, we heard whispers. They were talking in a foreign language about the path we were aiming to take. It leads to uncertainty, that we knew. But we had to take it. It was our only chance, to meet at the old Godstone. For death and life will cross its path, amidst the tall risen ancient trees.
