They were going to use ice. They were going to use ice, and it was going to hurt like hell. Again. Because of the damn lashing she had earned after staring at her father in the eyes long enough to make him uncomfortable when she was supposed to be 'repenting'. But it was her only way to fight back, even if she regretted it, as always, when about to suffer double for it. Noises drew the men's attention, and she was dropped again, her wrist hurting madly when the chain was pulled again, and her father sent some to check - someone was coming. The realization hit her father before it hit her, and he bolted while Ada was still trying to understand what was happening, the blood loss making her too tired to process everything so fast.

She must have blacked out too, because suddenly a woman was there, and Ada tried to at least push herself a little higher from the ground, noticing upon second inspection the ears. "You are not real," she murmured from that alone, because of course she'd dream of elves. She did, often. Her father said the worst things of them, but she had found her mother's notes and drawings, she had seen the beauty. But she didn't want to dream of being freed again, it hurt too much when she woke up there. "You are not really here..."

Beware the outlaw with the draconic blood. Many a sheriff have met their end to the quick draw and scorching heat of the terrifying Salamander Surena. Her and her gang the Blazing Scales own these parts so if you value your life you'd best comply to their demands.

According to Corneille's Suréna, Cassius came to Armenia pre-Carrhae to seek alliance, and bumped there into Surena who came with the same agenda. This is fun!

The question he didn't want to hear, didn't want to be asked. Just a simple question and yet it made him crumble immediately. He had such a weak resolve ever since leaving the circle, the little bit of boldness he had within him left that day.

He was so sure before she asked, he had to be, forced himself to be. It was atonement and it needed to be done for him to ever feel just a little bit better about what he had done. But... at the same time? It was terrifying. How could anyone be sure about something like that? You're signing your life away, what little of it remained for him at least- but even that was more than enough to be scared about.

It takes him a moment of nervous consideration, hands tightly gripping onto his staff as if it was his only anchor to the world. He wanted to say no, it was the truth after all. He wasn't sure, and in truth he would say no if it was a choice given to him in any other world. If he was truly offered at the circle before everything happened he would say no, no he didn't want to and wouldn't. But that wasn't the case, he had asked, he had "wanted" to again for his own selfish reasons. Atonement was a tall task and helping with something so pressing and terrifying as the blight was a step towards it.

The word heavy as he finally manages to speak up. To sign away everything with a single word... It was so unlike him, but was that not good? He was selfish, and foolish, and overall no good so to be different was... good? Maybe a step in the right direction. He would resign himself into believing so at least. Anything to soothe the mind.

When was the last time the elven woman, quick becoming a friend, had even seen the stars with her own eyes before Elissa and Duncan had come to the Circle on their way to Ostagar?

"Even something so lovely as the night sky would seem... different... if it could only be seen through bars. Perhaps I've taken such sights for granted..."

Elissa had bathed and scrubbed at her skin what felt like dozens of times since they had all left the hollowed, shattered ruins of Kinloch Hold. It had taken them barely a brace of days to cut through all the muck, maleficars, demons, and blood, yet Elissa still felt coated in a filthy grime that might not ever be washed clean.

How much worse did it feel for one as intimately bound to the Fade as her companion? Did it feel worse? Every impulse she had to begin asking died on her tongue. Instead she sighed, rolling over onto her side and digging her elbow into the dirt to prop her head up on her palm.

Not particularly, just because she doesn't have a lot of practice flirting. Her clan was very small and there wasn't really anyone she was particularly interested in in that way, so she's never really had a chance to learn. She can be charismatic and she is charming in other aspects, so I think she could learn to flirt well if she wanted to, but she just hasn't.

Ada had been absolutely terrible as a student of witchcraft, to the point that she was more or less ready to give up and just focus on at least making magical trinkets work, and weapons if they only required will-power and they supplied the magic. As much as she wished to learn from Ellie and to properly use the staff she had been given, she was a lost cause. And then those men had sneaked into camp, and Ada had recognized one of them, a guard who hadn't been there the day she had been freed. One who had grabbed Ellie's arm with his filthy hand to try to stop her from using more spells.

And the bolt of pure lightning coming from the staff had blown him up. Quite literally, there were pieces involved.

"I see... I wasn't hateful enough," she realized absently, watching the Mabari take care of the one left, "I wouldn't wish to rip apart the flesh of a friend or of a scarecrow, but the real thing... the real thing I long to destroy. Thank you, Ellie," she turned to her with a peaceful look, "Your lessons are perfect, they were only missing the right target."

Trying to locate the 2007 edition of the "Carrhae" entry in Encyclopaedia Iranica because apparently it is a thing that exists and has noticeable differences from the 1990 version that is available online. Either that, or Pourshariati 2008 decided to say "Orodes II’s (57–38 BCE) general, Surena, whose actual name was Rustaham Suren" without providing any sources on the personal name. The 1990 version of the entry, linked above, does not say anything at all about the personal name.

The quoted paragraph from Pourshariati 2008, for context:

[Pourshariati, Parvaneh (2008). Decline and Fall of the Sasanian Empire: The Sasanian-Parthian Confederacy and the Arab Conquest of Iran. London and New York: I.B. Tauris. Page 462.]

Moreover, according to Bivar 1983, "By one of those tantalizing gaps in the historical record, [Surenas'] personal name is still unknown to us. In all likelihood it is preserved amongst the throng of epic heroes whose deeds are recalled in the Kayanian section of the Shāh-nāma." [Bivar, A. D. H. So whatever is Pourshariati's source on the first name, assuming there is one, it is perhaps from after 1990 but before 2008. It may or may not be contained in that 2007 edition of the EI entry.
