Angeblich gehört die Megajacht sogar dem russischen Präsidenten Putin selbst. Nun wird sie von italienischen Behörden beschlagnahmt. Die italienischen Behörden haben die in einer toskanischen Werft liegende Megajacht "Scheherazade" festgesetzt. Ermittlungen hätten "erhebliche wirtschaftliche und geschäftliche Verbindungen zwischen dem offiziellen Eigentümer der 'Scheherazade' und bedeutenden Persönlichkeiten der russischen Regierung" ergeben, erklärte das italienische Wirtschaftsministerium. Die unter der Flagge der Kaimaninseln fahrende Jacht, die zuletzt im Hafen von Marina di Carrara gewartet worden war, sei den Behörden schon länger aufgefallen. Offenbar kam Finanzminister Daniele Franco mit seiner Entscheidung für die Beschlagnahmung einem Auslaufen der "Scheherazade" und einer möglichen Flucht aus dem italienischen Gebiet zuvor. Die "New York Times" hatte in dieser Woche berichtet, dass die Jacht nach Monaten im Trockendock am Dienstag erstmals wieder zu Wasser gelassen worden sei. Crew-Mitglieder seien beobachtet worden, wie sie das Schiff eilig beluden, außerdem sei die Jacht in der Vorwoche aufgetankt worden. Das Ministerium gab den Namen des Eigentümers nicht bekannt. Medienberichten zufolge gehört die "Scheherazade", die unter der Flagge der Cayman-Inseln fährt, einem auf den Marshall-Inseln registrierten Unternehmen. Mitglieder der Anti-Korruptionsstiftung des inhaftierten Kreml-Kritikers Alexej Nawalny hatten die Jacht dem russischen Präsidenten Wladimir Putin zugeschrieben. Das Luxusjacht-Unternehmen The Italian Sea Group, das zuletzt an dem Schiff gearbeitet hatte, hatte vor Wochen mitgeteilt, dass Putin laut Dokumenten nicht der Besitzer sei. Italienischen Medien zufolge ist Eduard Chudainatow, der Ex-Chef des russischen Staatskonzerns Rosneft, als Besitzer eingetragen. Der Erdölmanager wird auch als Eigentümer der Superjacht "Amadea" angeführt, die am Dienstag auf Fidschi beschlagnahmt worden war. Das im Jahr 2020 von der deutschen Firma Lürssen gebaute Schiff verfügt laut der spezialisierten Website SuperYachtFan über zwei Hubschrauberlandeplätze, einen Swimmingpool und ein Kino und ist umgerechnet rund 640 Millionen Euro wert. Seit dem Einmarsch Moskaus in die Ukraine am 24. Februar sind in Europa bereits zahlreiche Jachten russischer Oligarchen beschlagnahmt worden.

Is mystery yacht in Tuscany Putin's pleasure boat?

Located in a dry dock in the Tuscan seaside town of Massa is the "Scheherazade", the most infamous yacht in Italy due to speculation it could belong to Vladimir Putin.

A probe into the ownership of the 140-metre vessel, whose bow faces the Meditteranean, is being conducted by the Italian financial police.

A number of Russian oligarchs' yachts have already been seized in Europe since Moscow invaded Ukraine last month. The ship has been parked in The Italian Sea Group's shipyard at the Marina di Carrara, in the western seaside town of Massa, not far from Tuscany's famous marble quarries of Carrara.

There were no obvious signs of activity on board Wednesday, although some men were working nearby. The investigation by the financial police could be completed in the next few days, according to a source close to the case.

"The source said we are in a phase of diving deeper, which is generally more complicated. According to the website SuperYachtFan, which tracks yachts and their owners, "It's not always easy to attribute ownership." The yacht was built by German company Lurssen in 2020, and it includes two helipads, a swimming pool and a movie theatre.

A company registered in the Marshall Islands owns the ship, which flies the Cayman Islands flag. Researchers at the anti-corruption foundation of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, which on Monday posted a video on YouTube attributing the yacht to Putin, have determined that the captain is British, but its crew is Russian.

Several members of the Russian federal protective service, which is tasked with protecting Putin, were included on a crew list in their possession, according to researchers.

Paolo Gozzani, head of the local CGIL union, which includes shipyard workers, said the crew of the "Scheherazade" abruptly changed in recent days.

AFP quoted Gozzani as saying, "The crew was entirely made up of Russians. Then suddenly there was a change in crew, and the reason for it is still unclear."

US authorities have gathered evidence linking Putin to the luxury ship, according to the New York Times. The luxury ship made two trips to Sochi, a resort on the Black Sea, in 2020 and 2021.

The yacht was not the property of the Italian Sea Group, according to a statement. The assessment was based on "the documents in its possession and on the results of the checks conducted by the relevant authorities," said the shipyard's owner.

The captain of the Scheherazade told the New York Times earlier this month that Putin did not own the ship and that he had never been on board.

The Ukrainian president asked the Italian parliament to confiscate all financial and real estate assets of Russian oligarchs, including yachts, "from the Scheherazade to the smallest."

Italian authorities have seized over 800 million euros of assets belonging to Russian oligarchs since the February 24 invasion of Ukraine, Prime Minister Mario Draghi said Tuesday.

One of them is "Sailing Yacht A", a 530-million-euro sailing yacht owned by coal and fertilizer tycoon Andrei Melnichenko, who is on the EU's blacklist.

Meanwhile, Italy seized the 65-million-euro "Lady M Yacht" belonging to Alexei Mordashov, a Russian steel billionaire with connections to Vladimir Putin. The sanctions, said Draghi, "have severely affected the economy and financial markets in Russia, as well as the personal assets of people closest to President Putin."

Miami Yacht Watch: The $125M ‘Vanish’

Miami is a common host for extravagant yachts at all times of the year. Track these magnificent vessels and their outlandish toys with Miami Yacht Watch, which typically runs weekly on Curbed Miami.

The 217-foot ‘Vanish’ superyacht is docked in Miami Beach at the newly opened One Island Park Marina, which is located on Terminal Island off the MacArthur Causeway.

The stunning vessel is owned by billionaire Larry Van Tuyl, who sold the largest privately held car dealership group in the U.S. to Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway a few years ago for what’s believed to be in excess of $4 billion.

The ship was launched by Feadship in 2016. It’s equipped with two helipads, an outdoor cinema, a gym, sauna, massage room, beach club, and includes “a free-standing staircase flanked by a glass wall over three decks,” per Feadship’s website.

SuperYachtFan estimates Vanish’s value at around $125 million or higher.

On Thursday, December 19, singer Marc Anthony’s luxury yacht had caught fire and the 36.5-meter long boat was halfway submerged in Biscayne Bay, after which it required 45 firefighters to extinguish flames for around two hours.
