Supercorptober 2022 Day 7: Night
Security log book at L-corp, "Tips for night shift security"
Always have your shoelaces tied (that was one time Fred)
Drink water, not coffee (energy drinks don't help either, plus it's bad for your health Liam)
Don't be surprised if Ms. Luthor's still in
Also don't bother her - she's not mean, just busy (yeah she got us all dinner that one Christmas!)
The fastest elevator is the one on the left (we know this is you, Ken, and it's the right elevator!!)
Take the stairs, it's better for you to get exercise (thanks Fred-dad)
If Ms. Luthor's in, Kara Danvers is likely to stop by too - don't worry, Ms. Luthor confirmed she has full access (also she hates being called Ms. Danvers)
Don't be surprised if there's a really large delivery order either (sometimes Kara and Ms. Luthor shares!)
Also keep in mind that the 8th floor door tends to stick
And the stairwell between the 13th and 14th floor may or may not be haunted (you’re the only one who believes in ghosts, Ken) (i swear, i heard a voice!!)
If something blue and red speeds by, it's just Supergirl
If Supergirl is visiting Ms. Luthor, it's uh, best to give them their privacy (no I will not elaborate)
If the red phone ever rings... god speed (has anyone ever heard it ring?) (Let's hope y'all never do)
If Ms. Luthor asks for your opinion on something, she means it so be honest
If Kara asks for your opinion on something, go for the option of most chaos, it'll be worth it
The person who finishes the last crossword puzzle buys the next book (Liam still owes one)
The black cat’s name is Lutessa (per Ms. Luthor)
Protect Ms. Luthor always (per Kara) (per me) (and me!)

Supercorptober 2022 Day 14: Soaring
Lena has never felt so warm, so free, so unencumbered, so … lazy. The only thing on the forefront of her mind is to nap and stretch in the sun, following its path from balcony to balcony. It’s a relaxed simplicity that she hasn’t felt, well, ever, and she’s determined to take as much advantage of the moment as she can.
That is, until a sharp, unfamiliar voice sounds - in some part of her mind, it registers as ‘kitty!’ - and along with it, all the alarm signals in her body. Without thinking, before whatever’s coming towards her can reach her, trap her, she follows the instincts clanging through every one of her cells: she jumps.
And for a long, heart-stopping moment, she feels as if she’s soaring.
And she is, from several stories.
But as the saying goes, Lena lands on her feet.
It’s not without shock, of course, and the crowd she finds herself amidst here on the ground is no less frightening than the one she’d escaped from. She hisses and scrambles free, though she feels her nose twitch at a familiar smell as she speeds away.
Lena finds a dark, quiet place, no longer trusting of the sun. She stays as still as possible, hears nothing for a long while save for the rapid beating of her heart. Eventually, even that slows, and something else takes its place in her ears: A voice she knows.
She doesn’t understand the sounds but something in her feels calm from the soft tones and the smell she recognizes as home. And suddenly, with the whole of her being, she knows that there’s nothing more than she wants but to be there with her.
Lena steps out from under her hiding space with two hesitant steps that turn into another soaring leap - and fights herself engulfed by the sun itself. It’s soft and warm and though she’s wrapped up completely, albeit carefully, she feels more free than ever before.
There’s a touch at her head, her back, and she curls into it more firmly, despite the sound that a part of her mind registers as a quiet laugh. Lena sighs and burrows further into the warmth, content and safe.
(When Lena transforms back into human form, it’s to Kara dozing underneath her on the couch, a blanket haphazardly covering both of them. ‘So that’s what that spell does,’ Lena thinks to herself with a shake of her head, too tired to think of anything more before returning to her sunny dreams.)

Supercorptober 2022 Day 10: Ice
(wanted to try my hand at 2nd pov and post-reveal reconciliation from a 3rd party observer... also started posting these on ao3 btw)
They don't come by your bar often but you know them both by name (Lena tips too well to forget and just as unforgettable is the genuine kindness of Kara's smile). Lena's already sitting at the counter, scotch well in hand, when Kara steps up beside her to make an order. It's your first time seeing them together, though they're not really. Together.
They both startle and their eyes catch each other's like a knit sweater on an exposed nail, a breath away from either unraveling or releasing a static charge strong enough to level the entire building. Lena looks away first. Kara coughs, fiddles with her glasses, then restarts the order she had choked on.
You make the drink quickly, watching them watch each other without watching. You drop off the drink in front of Kara and drop back from the counter to give them enough space but close enough just in case (in case of what you're not quite sure, nor are you sure on who's behalf you'd rather step in for).
You're too far to hear their conversation but you can read the tension plainly. It's stilted and chilly and lasts mere minutes. The sound of ice clinking against the side of the glass as she finishes her drink always precedes Lena's departure and it's no different this night.
Kara doesn't watch her leave, just watches the ice as it settles in Lena's now empty glass. To your surprise, though, you find something that looks like relief on her face.
*
The next night plays out just as stilted but with a sort of expectation; so goes the next time after that as well. Every couple of evenings, (whether it's by design or by chance you're not sure) you watch them find each other here in the dark of your bar.
Sometimes there are moments when it looks like Lena will either hurl her glass at Kara or cry into it; there are moments when Kara will replace her glass with her own hands, white knuckled and jaw grimly set. They never raise their voices, though there are nights when you'll catch surreptitious wiping of tears (you make sure the napkin holder is full and within arm's reach of both of them; it's the most you'll let yourself do. The rest, you know, is up to them).
Sometimes their conversation last but a few minutes; sometimes they go into the double digits. Lena always leaves first, ice clinking against the side of the glass before she slides off of her perch. Never a second glance behind her. Kara doesn't watch her leave (but something in you knows somehow that she's listening).
*
One night, Kara arrives but Lena's not there, which surprises you. If it surprises Kara, she doesn't show it - at least, not the ways you think to look, at first. You realize that the nonchalance itself is the tell - the way she doesn't look to the chair on her left that Lena typically occupies, doesn't check her phone or her watch or the clock on the side of the wall, doesn't turn to look through the crowd. Every now and then she'll sip her drink, but she does little else but simply exist.
An hour in, you're about to ask her if she'd like another drink when Kara straightens suddenly. Before you can ask what's wrong, you spot her: Lena, across the room, her eyes locked on Kara's back. A mix of emotions tumbles across her face and she pauses to seemingly take a breath. Finally, her expression smooths into a fragile sort of stillness that holds as she takes her seat. Then she looks at Kara.
Kara's turned towards Lena, away from you enough that you can't see her face but Lena can and -
It's not that Lena's expression breaks. It doesn't shatter or burst. It's a veil pushed back, a nail wrenched free, a pulled thread that cannot be returned.
But it's accompanied with a smile. It's tentative and nervous, wavering at the edges, but it's a smile nonetheless.
Neither of them notice when you set down Lena's glass of scotch. They both ask for another drink later, and Lena picks up the tab.
It's the longest you've seen them talk.
*
You watch them return night after night, their shoulders slowly turning away from the bar, heads tilting towards each other. There's both an ease and a strength to them now; they meet each other's eyes more and more.
One night, they leave together.
*
The next time they stop by, they spend more time talking than drinking, more time with their hands on each other than the glasses in front of them. On a busy night like tonight, you'd normally be a little bit annoyed. But you can't help but remember that first night and think of how different they seem, how different they are, and how much they've done to get here.
When Lena tries to pay, you tell them it's on the house; when she insists, so do you, saying that they reminded you to believe in love.

Supercorptober 2022 Day 8: Rain
When Alex opens the door to Kara's apartment, she is met with the following, starting from the front door:
Sneakers and pizza printed socks, soaked - okay those shoes are definitely Kara's; she's probably alright and her apartment wasn't broken into or something
Heels, Louboutin, also soaked - likely Lena's, who else does Kara hang out with who wears these ankle killers
Umbrella, still wet, broken - the wind was pretty bad last night...
Keys - could either be Kara's set or Lena's because they both have that keychain that Kelly and I think looks like the L-corp logo smashed together with the symbol of the House of El
Pencil skirt, black, soaked - I guess they got caught in the rain and needed to get their clothes off in a hurry
Floral patterned blouse, soaked - hope Lena didn't get sick getting caught in the rain
Bra, black - um
Panties, black - COMMENCE ESCAPE SEQUENCE
Alex stops looking and steps quickly back out the door; she opens it once to drop the DVDs she'd come by to return and immediately closes the door behind her, nearly catching her own hair in the process.
'Dropped off your DVDs,' Alex texts as she waits for the elevator, 'I swear to god if you say you and Lena are just best friends by now I will never buy you potstickers ever again.'

Supercorptober 2022 Day 12: Evening
Hey Lena - I was doing some research for an article and thought this might help for those evenings you have trouble sleeping!
Journaling (you can use that journal I bought you last week! I recommend writing at least three positive things that happened, or things that you're grateful for. p.s - my list always starts with you)
Take a bath (I was reading that certain salts can be rejuvenating and relaxing but I still think bubbles are the best)
Walking (just call me and I’ll walk with you!)
Stretching (put that yoga mat to actual use!)
Quality time with friends and family (no, you're not a bother, call me any time!)
Meditation (I sent you some links for these meditation podcasts I found; if I fell asleep while listening, that means it worked, right?)
Have a warm drink (I know you're more into tea but apparently milk works too)
Get a massage (if you don't mind an amateur masseuse, I'm your girl!)
Reading (apparently the common recommendation is to go analog so turn off your devices, Ms. Luthor!)
Listen to music (I also sent you a classical playlist along with my favorite piano covers)
And if none of these work, you can always just call me <;3
Sweet dreams,
-Kara

Supercorptober 2022 Day 6: Leaves
Nothing is out of the ordinary the day Lena leaves for a 12-day business trip across the country (leaving is never a problem; it’s the coming back that always worries her).
(Her worries are always, and with some measure of relief, unfounded.)
It’s a week after she’s returned and Kara leaves her pocket calendar squarely on Lena's desk that Lena starts to suspect that there may be something behind the spate of forgetfulness that seems to have overcome Kara lately (that and the odd smile that had fluttered across Kara’s face as she’d left, a mix of nerves and excitement that was gone before Lena could ask about it).
She lays the -yet unclaimed- items out one by one (feels somewhat like a kid again looking at a collection of memories shared in secret): a credit card, pen, water bottle, pocket calendar.
It’s not until she turns over Kara’s credit card that she notices the small words penned into the side - she recognizes the handwriting first, feels the smile on her lips even before the thought fully forms in her mind, then the words second. Knowing now what to look for, she finds the narrative continued across all the items - not forgotten after all.
Air leaves her lungs in a rush, a heady feeling taking over as realization sinks in and confirmation blankets over it (somewhere in the back of her mind, she thinks she hears someone say, you won’t be left alone again; it’s to herself, and her and both of them to each other).
Lena doesn’t mention it when they meet up for lunch the next day – she does, however, leave behind some things of her own: a kiss, a promise, her heart (though the last she’d already given a long, long time ago).

Supercorptober 2022 Day 16: Sparks
For a long moment, the only movement is the sparks from the cut power lines skittering across the floor. It’s all that Lena left behind.
The others break out of their shock, and Kara knows they’re doing what they can to find where Lena and the bomb she took with her went, not to mention the rogue alien that put them all in this situation. But Kara’s mind is not there.
Her eyes are trained on the sparks. They remind her of just last week, the sunset on the ocean that she and Lena had watched from the shore in Midvale. How Lena had turned to look at her, how the softness in Lena’s eyes had taken Kara’s breath away.
Lena had locked eyes with her just before the portal closed. The numbers on the bomb the alien had strapped to her chest were a different red from the sunset. But the softness in Lena’s eyes had been the same.
* There are no reports of explosions elsewhere in the city nor any other country but they search anyway, for both Lena and the alien. Kara barely talks to anyone, penduluming back and forth between quaking rage and crippling despair.
The others don’t fare much better.
*
They find the alien five days later. Kara’s light on the details but heavy with her hands. No one faults her for the destruction she causes in taking him down - all of them get their shots in.
There’s a part of Kara that had hoped for some faint feeling of victory, of justice, any spark of feeling. But there’s nothing. Nothing in her chest, especially when she spreads out her hearing and still can’t find Lena’s heartbeat.
*
The portal appears soundlessly in the middle of the Tower. Kara would’ve missed it had she not already been staring blankly in that direction already. Lena, however, stumbles through and would have collapsed onto the floor had it not been for Kara’s instincts.
There’s no sparks, no fireworks, no fanfare. Kara can hear the others scrambling around them, knows that she should probably let go of Lena so they can check her for injuries and ask her what happened –
Lena pulls back just enough to look into Kara’s eyes, a desperate wildness in her own. Kara answers it readily.
Their lips meet in a fervent kiss and Kara finally feels - sparks and whole.

Supercorptober 2022 Day 15: Warmth
(s6-ish and post-season?)
Lena jolts awake with a gasp. She tries to sit up, bleary - who turned off the lights? Don’t they know she’s still working, she needs to get Kara back - but there’s a heaviness and a warmth on her chest, her stomach, her neck -
Her first instinct is to push the weight away but it’s solid yet soft under her fists, then around her fists, soothing tones murmuring in her ear. Then Lena remembers. Getting Kara back. Kara’s home. Kara’s here.
She shudders once, twice, bites her lip to hold back the third. The warmth - hands, she realizes, Kara’s hands - run along her back, settle into her scalp. Her own hands scrabble for something to hold, some way to suck the warmth through her palms to melt the ice that's been coursing through her veins.
Their hands tighten around each other. ‘It’s okay,’ they say, ‘You’re safe. We’re safe.’
*
Lena wakes to panic in her throat, terror seizing her body - there’s a part of her mind that knows what’s happening, has been here before, but it’s not strong enough against the crashing wave of the nightmare.
But then through the darkness, comes warmth - warmth in the form of Kara.
Lena can’t decipher Kara’s words but she translates Kara’s touches with effort, allows the heat of Kara’s hands and breath to slowly ease her from the dream and bring her back to reality.
“I’m okay,” she finally says, burrowing further into the safety of Kara’s arms. ‘I’m okay, here with you.’
*
It’s Kara’s scream that rips Lena from sleep this time. She curls towards Kara instinctively, before she herself is even fully awake. Kara’s shivering, teeth chattering, and she’s muttering about cold and ice and Lena does the first thing that comes to mind.
She wraps herself around Kara’s body as best she can, slips her hands under the twisted, sweaty cotton of Kara’s shirt, presses her own warmth as tightly as she can into Kara’s skin. It’s less words and more a hum that leaves her lips, melodies that Lena uses to try to coax Kara’s breathing to settle into something less frantic. She thinks of sun and fire and tries to bring those thoughts into her hands, her mouth, and press them into Kara’s body and mind.
The ice gripping Kara's consciousness recedes in inches but Lena’s grip is tighter. She doesn’t let go until she can see the faintest spark of relief in Kara’s eyes. “I’m here,” she murmurs into Kara’s hair (it might have been the millionth time she’s said it that evening, but Lena’s more than ready to say it a million times more).
*
Lena wakes slowly, relishing the warmth she can feel surrounding her - the sun in her hair, the book she had been reading on her chest, Kara at her back. She feels more than hears Kara humming, some lilting melody that will now forever remind her of naps on the couch.
The song fades and Lena realizes that it’s actually Kara’s hands in her hair. “Sorry for waking you,” Kara murmurs, sounding equal parts apologetic and content.
Lena just smiles, sighing into Kara’s hands, her chest, and says, “It’s okay, I’d rather be here with you anyway.”

Supercorptober 2022 Day 5: Orange
The smell of sunshine in liquid form hits Alex as soon as she enters Kara's apartment. "Fresh orange juice? Don't mind if I do," she says as she swipes a glass from the counter, ignoring Kara's protests. Alex lets out an exaggerated sound after she's downed half the glass (orange juice definitely tastes better hand-squeezed - especially by someone else).
"I'm surprised you're up this early," she says as she settles on a stool. The clock behind Kara's pouting face ticks just past 7 am but it looks like her sister's been up far longer.
Kara just shrugs and starts rolling another orange to prepare for squeezing. Alex mirrors her shrug and picks up another one, blinks in surprise. "These are heavy." Her eyes narrow. "And warm. Did you-?"
"That farmer I was talking about always has extra this time of year."
"And by 'that farmer' you're talking about the one in Valencia - Valencia, Spain?"
Kara just rolls her eyes and reapplies herself to the task of juicing. Alex hasn't seen her do this since they were younger, how it was one of the many varied things that her family had come up with to help Kara with her strength and to introduce her gently to new things. Nowadays, she knows that Kara only does this when she has time, when there's something to celebrate…
Alex takes another look at her sister, noting the ease in Kara’s posture yet the slightly flustered look on her face as she palms the orange. "What's the occasion?" Alex asks, casually taking another sip of her orange juice while she carefully watches Kara’s reaction.
She needn't be so careful: Kara’s face flushes bright red. "Nothing," she sputters.
Alex raises an eyebrow. "Tell that to your orange." Kara looks down and groans as she notes the mess on the counter, having squeezed a little too hard.
"Kara, have you seen my pants? I seem to remember you throwing them down the hall but I can't find -"
Orange juice doesn’t taste nearly as good coming up one's nose, a part of Alex’s brain thinks idly as she takes in Lena’s half-dressed state. Through the burning in her eyes, Alex glances between Lena and Kara, back again, noting the blushes on both of them and the marks on the former. Then her eyes go to the orange in Kara’s hand - then down to the orange juice in her glass and now running down her shirt. That kind of occasion.
"Serves you right barging in unannounced," Kara grumbles as she throws a hand towel at Alex.

Supercorptober 2022 Day 4: Office
Detective K. Ale, post-interview notes
Office #01
Surprising amount of security, even for such a company as this
The pastel cardigan on the couch didn't match her wardrobe (also seemed a size too big if you ask me)
Desk: normal, pens (green, red, black) and highlighters (variety), paperwork and folders (one labeled Top Secret), laptop (does no one believe in desktops anymore?), oddly several skittles on the corner (red, blue), Big Belly milkshake, and a Supergirl coffee mug
Office #08
That was a pleasant conversation actually (also when was the last time I had skittles? Reminder: pick up some from the store later)
Desk: Open notebook with blue and green writing (there was some vibrant highlighter too), pens (blue) and pencils, Scientific American (this month is featuring the Lena Luthor Foundation, reminder: see if Brock's daughter wants a copy), Top Secret folder ("my sister takes game night way too seriously")
How is it possible for someone to have that many orders of Big Belly and still be that fit?
Just remembered, there were a set of black heels under the desk that were several inches tall (can't imagine they're hers)

Supercorptober 2022 Day 11: Forest
They say the forest is enchanted.
To enter is to forfeit the guarantee of leaving - something always gets left behind. Sometimes, Kara's relatives would warn, it was your life. It's why she and all of her cousins trained in combat from a young age, underwent the trials of the Red Riders, wore the hooded cape with pride.
She entered knowing she could die. So when there's a flash of green and her sword falling from her grasp and darkness rapidly drawing nearer, Kara isn't at all surprised.
She is, however, surprised to hear something like a howl at the edge of her consciousness, then a soft warmth at the side of her face. But most surprising is the glittering green of the eyes she finds herself looking into, arresting in a way that was just as powerful as the poisonous kryptonite lichen that had had nearly drained the life out of her - just as powerful, but lacking the violence she had come to expect from the forest. They were soft with care.
It took her several moments to realize that she was being shaken, that words were being spoken to her. Questions with an urgent, panicked tinge.
"'m 'lright," she slurs, finally accepting the pull and rising to her feet. "I'm all right," she repeats, stronger.
Her savior is shorter than her, features nearly blending into the darkness but Kara can make out sharp cheekbones, an even sharper jaw, and dark hair that flowed like a trail her fingers itched to follow, to explore. Kara clenches her hands into fists, keeps them to herself.
The forest is enchanted, she reminds herself, it takes more than it gives - self-control being chief among those.
"Why are you here?" the woman hisses, "Your kind shouldn't be in the forest."
"My kind?" Kara is aghast. "I am a Red Rider, heir to the House of El -"
The warmth that had been on her face return, this time hard on her mouth. Green eyes flash dangerously. "Then you of all people should know not to give your name in this place."
Kara's hands clench and unclench at her sides, in time with her teeth, her jaw. The woman, her savior, twice over now, was right.
"I need to return to Argo immediately," she answers with an even tone when the woman removes her hand. "The smithy in Mid-valley told me there was a shortcut through the woods. He gave me this."
Before she can think it through, Kara's hand is taking the map from her pocket and handing it to the woman. She isn't sure if it was the forest or the woman that was compelling her to give her trust; and perhaps something more, she thinks as she feels a stirring in her chest.
Tumblr media
Kara watches green eyes flicker over the paper and trace the glow of the path the blacksmith had outlined on the map. The question of how he’d done such a thing pricks at her consciousness, but it's snuffed out before it can fully form. She's distracted anyway by the appearance of a furrow on the woman’s brow, sudden and deep. "The blacksmith in Mid-valley? But he d- what did he look like?"
There's a sharpness in the voice that has Kara following the command instinctively. "Bald, blue eyes, dark beard, well kept. Taller than me, average build. His hands were clean." She notes the last curiously before letting the recollection fall away from her mind and her eyes refocus on the woman - and is unable to stop her own flinch at the sneer, the rage warping the woman's face.
"So that’s how they’re doing it, tricking innocent people -" Something like a laugh and sob rattles through the woman’s chest. The paper crumples in her grasp. "You were tricked," the woman says before Kara can ask, "There’s no time to explain. You must follow me, quickly, before the sun sets."
Her eyes flicker suddenly down to Kara’s hands. "Please, please, believe me."
Kara follows her gaze down, finds that her body has moved of its own accord, hand wrapped tight around the sword hilt. Her breath slows as she takes in the darkening sun, the fire in the woman’s eyes, the antidote hidden in a pouch pressing against her chest.
She loosens her grip. "I believe you." The words ring like a chime between them.
The woman nods, relief loosening her shoulders briefly before she straightens and turns, clearly expecting Kara to follow. For a moment, Kara sees the outline of a snout, a tail, but dismisses it as shadows dappling across the woman’s form.
The forest is enchanted, Kara reminds herself once more as she follows the woman’s lead, and knows with certainty that something deep from her has already been left behind.

Supercorptober 2022 Day 13: Peace
The Tower is in chaos.
Chairs and tables upended, a riot of colors and unknown substances littering every vertical and horizontal surface - there's even globs dripping down from the ceiling. Glitter and what may have been food, liquids that may be drinks or paint or otherwise, footprints all along the floor.
It's the absolute opposite of peaceful.
And yet in the middle of it all, Kara and Lena are laughing. The rest of their friends are in various states of disarray and also giggling, some more upright than others. 'This was the most epic game night ever,' is whispered unsteadily through a tired grin somewhere under a table, and Kara and Lena can't help but share a lopsided, color-spattered smile.
"Thanks for always going along with my crazy ideas," Kara says as she pulls Lena closer into her side. Lena just burrows into her neck in answer, breathing in deep the comforting feeling of peace.
