Cautiously Optimistic - Liberty Media Buying MotoGP

So, Liberty Media, owners of Formula One, are officially trying to buy MotoGP. This has been rumored for the last few months, with Dorna Sports - the parent company of MotoGP and World Superbike - had spent the last few years making the kind of moves you'd make before a big sale. The launch of sprint races in MotoGP, appointing a new CCO in the form of Dan Rossomondo, and expanding the calendar with new races in new markets.

Nevertheless, there were always question marks over whether Liberty Media could own both MotoGP and Formula One, because precedent suggested they could not. As Simon Patterson reported for the Race, in 2006, CVC Capital Partners acquired Formula One and thus European regulators ordered them to sell off MotoGP. Thus, MotoGP was sold to another private equity firm, Bridgepoint. Bridgepoint would then acquire World Superbike in 2013, and evidently owning the two premier global motorcycle racing series didn't seem to bother any regulators at that point.

I can't help but combine that with a quote from Dan Rossomondo made at some point while being the Chief Commercial Officer of MotoGP. Rossomondo said, essentially, that MotoGP doesn't just compete with other racing series, it competes with going out for a walk, listening to music, and all the other things you could do on a Sunday instead of sitting down and watching a motorcycle race.

Was that more than just an innocuous quote? Maybe it's a hint of how Dorna and Liberty will make their case to various regulatory bodies to justify this merger.

Whether or not that's true, Liberty Media seems confident that they're going to pass regulatory approval. How exactly that'll happen remains to be seen - some have suggested that World Superbike will be sold off as a sort of sacrificial lamb to allow this to happen - but it now seems like MotoGP and F1 will very likely end up under the same ownership.

So...what does that mean for MotoGP?

Well, it means that the company that turned F1 into this trendy giant of a series is going to give some of that marketing love to MotoGP. That can only be a good thing - MotoGP is fantastic racing and it deserves more attention.

Will MotoGP see a move from historic venues to chase new markets? I would argue that it already has. Dorna has already been chasing emerging markets and a simple look at the calendar will show that - Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India, etc, etc. Not only that, but that's arguably a necessary decision for MotoGP because, quite frankly, those are the countries that are buying motorcycles these days. 1000cc sport bikes? Not necessarily, but quite frankly, KTM doesn't even make a 1000cc sport bike, so MotoGP has become more of a showcase of the motorcycle industry rather than a marketing tool for a particular type of motorcycle.

Will this result in MotoGP chasing street circuits like F1 did? Well, Liberty Media has already said no, and as much as the word of giant corporations is worthless in 2024, simple safety concerns make it unfeasible. MotoGP needs a ton of space and big gravel traps to stop the bikes - and more importantly, the riders - in the kind of dramatic crashes that can happen in this sport.

What do I think will happen? Well, in the short term, not much, but come 2026, 2027 when circuit contracts start expiring, I suspect we'll lose a few existing venues - having four races in Spain presents an obvious opportunity for some trimming - and probably gain another race in the US (likely that Flatrock track in Tennessee) and if I had to guess, another one in East Asia, most likely China.

Maybe India will pave the way towards MotoGP reviving old, disused F1 tracks, and we could see the likes of South Korea and Istanbul Park added to the MotoGP calendar. If not MotoGP, then WSBK with a Turkish star in the form of Toprak Razgatlioglu really ought to consider it.

Anyway, the way I see it, the legitimate criticisms that F1 fans have with Liberty Media - being greedy, chasing new venues at the expense of historic ones, pushing the teams hard by constantly expanding the schedule - is all stuff that Dorna has already been doing. Even the complaints about the Drive to Survive drama, Dorna has tried two different DTS clones and neither one moved the needle. If you're going to be doing these things anyway, you might as well do them with the company that has at least been successful with it.

For now though, I have MotoGP coverage through Max and TruTV in the US, commercial free, and that's a dramatic improvement over how I had to watch the series last year. Dan Rossomondo's team has made MotoGP far more accessible and pleasant to watch already, and if that can continue under Liberty Media's ownership, then I hope this series that I've fallen in love with over the last year and a half can grow.

Thus, the overall verdict is...I'm cautiously optimistic.

Apollo Tyres ltd is the world's largest tyre manufacturer, with annual consolidated revenues of US$2.46 billion in March 2018. It was incorporated in 1972. Its first plant was commissioned in Perambra Thissur, Kerala, India. The companynow has four manufacturing units in India, one in Netherlands and one in Hungery. It has a network of nearly 5,000 dealerships in India, of which over 2,500 are exclusive outlets.Number of employees at this organisation is 16,000. It gets 69% of its revenues from India, 26% from Europe and 5%from other geographies.

Apollo announced its entry into the two wheeler tyre segment with contact manufacturing in March 2016. In November 2016, the company signed a MoU with the government of Andhra Pradesh to set up a new factory in Andhra Pradesh to Manufacture tyres for two wheelers and pick up trucks. The company second plant in Europe, was inaugurated by the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban in April 2017. Apollo Tyres opens its first service centre in Malaysia.

MRF Limited is an Indian multinational and the largest manufacturer of tyres in India. The MRF in founded in 1946, Tiruvottiyur, Madras, Tamil Nadu, Indiia. The founder of MRF in K M . Mammen Mappillai.. Its headquartered in Chennai, India. The company manufacturer rubber products including tyres, treads, tubes and conveyor belts, plant and touys. MRF also runs the MRF pace Foundation Chennai and MRF Challenge in motorsport.

Continental AG commonly known as Continental, is a German Multinational automotive parts manufacturing company specializing  in brake system, interior electronics, automotive safety, powertrain and other parts for the automotive and transportation industries. Continental is based in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany. Continental is the world's fourth largest tyre manufacturing.

Continental was founded in 1871 as a rubber manufacturer. Continental Caoutchouc and Gutta-Percha Compagine. In 1898, Continental started development and production of the vehicle tyre with plan tread, which was the major success of the brand.In 1904, Continental  became the first company in the world to manufacture grooved vehicle tyres. Another major product Continental invented was detachable wheel tyres that was made for touring vehicles. In the late 1920s, Continental merged with several other major rubber industry companies to form the largest rubber company in Germany "Continental Gummi-Werke AG". As with many other German companies during World War ll, Continental used salve labor provided by the Nazi Party in their  factory in the 1940s at Hannover-Stocken, Hannover-Limmer, Hannover-Ahlem, and others, all offshoots of the Neuengamme concentration camp.

Dunlop Tyres is a brand of tyres owned by Various companies around the world. Founded by Pneumatic tyre pioneer John Boyd Dunlop in Dublin, Ireland in 1890, It is owned and operated by Goodyear tyre and Rubber Company in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. In India, the brand is owned by Dunlop India Ltd. whose parent company in the Ruia Group. In several Other Asian countries (Japan, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Russia), Africa and Latin America ( except Mexiao) it is operated by Sumitomo Rubber industries. In Malaysia, the Dunlop Tyres brand has, since 2012, been wholly owned by Continental AG , which manufactures Dunlop branded tyres for sale in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.

In 1985, Dunlop Rubber Company  was acquired by BTR PLC and Sumitomo acquired the rights to manufacture and market Dunlop branded road tyres. Sumitomo did not acquire any Dunlop company. In 1997. Sumitomo gained agreement to use the Dinlop name in its corporate name, and changed the name of its UK subsidary to Dunlop Tyres Ltd.

In 1999, Sumitomo and Goodyear began a joint venture by which Sumitomo continued to manufacture all Japanese made tyres under the Dunlop name, while Goodyear tyre and Rubber Company nought 75% of the European and North American tyre businesses of Sumitomo.

The company has extensive manufacturing operations throughout the world. With the closure of the Washington Plant in 2006, Goodyear Dunlop Ceased mainstream car and lorry tyre production in the UK.

Another test bike taken from Millenium Welt. The famous s1000rr 2018. My whole review for this bike is just a few simple words.“Superbly fast, Superb quickshifter features”.

Ride this bike for my daily commute to work for 5 days. Though she is a very mean machine, the engine is too hot if u ride her above 250kmh (she’s a superbike anyway and whats the point riding a superbike if u will only go circa 160kmh).

Would get one for my self but honestly, she is not a practical machine for a daily commute.oooo..i even boughta cheap full face helmet to ensure I can really test the velocity promised by this bike. True enouhh, she can reach 270kmh easily. Imagine riding to work at that speed.

Cornering ? She handles every twists and turns easily. Love it.

Viral di media sosial video sekumpulan penunggang motosikal berkuasa tinggi didakwa dari Singapura memasuki Malaysia dengan menutup nombor pendaftaran kenderaan mereka dengan sengaja. 

Difahamkan, kesemua penunggang motosikal terbabit berbuat demikian  kerana mahu mengelak dari dirakam oleh kamera Sistem Pengawasan Automatik (AES). 

Mereka dipercayai menggunakan pita pelekat hitam untuk menutup nombor pendaftaran kenderaan mereka tetapi berjaya dirakam oleh orang awam yang berada di tempat kejadian. 

Beberapa hari lalu, Singapura telah mengeluarkan kenyataan bahawa negaranya akan menghalang kemasukan kenderaan dari luar negara (Malaysia) kerana jumlah saman yang dikenakan masih belum dibayar. 

Singapura mendakwa, rakyat Malaysia (pemandu/penunggang) masih berhutang RM100 juta saman dengan pihaknya. 

Namun dari video yang viral itu jelas sekali menunjukkan bahawa rakyat Singapura juga melanggar peraturan lalu lintas di Malaysia.

TURISIAN.com – Meski eventnya baru akan berlangsung pada 11-13 November mendatang, logistik para pembalap World Superbike (WSBK) tahun 2022 sudah berdatangan. Secara bertahap masing-masing tim WSBK yang akan berlaga di sirkuit Mandalika mulai  tiba di Bandara Internasional Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat, sejak Sabtu 29 Oktober 2022. Logistik yang tiba ini merupakan barang penting milik pembalap dan tim Dorna. Barang-barang tersebut, akan digunakan dalam even bergengsi nanti. Dimana, estimasi penonton diperkirakan akan mencapai 50.000 orang. Mereka bakal berdatangan dari berbagai negara. Untuk logistik  tahap pertama tiba mengunakan pesawat Qatar Airways tipe Boing 777 F dengan nomor penerbangan QRb8062 dan tiba pukul 17.20. Optimisme Pebalap Indonesia Kibarkan Merah Putih di ARRC Sepang

BALIPORTALNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Pebalap muda binaan PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) yang tergabung dalam Astra Honda Racing Team (AHRT) optimis menghadapi ajang balap Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) 2022 seri keempat yang akan digelar pada akhir pekan mendatang, di Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia pada 8-9 Oktober 2022. Berbekal pengalaman positif pada seri sebelumnya, konsistensi mengibarkan bendera Merah Putih akan kembali diupayakan oleh lima pebalap muda bertalenta yang akan berlaga pada kelas Asia Production (AP)250 dan Supersports (SS) 600. Rheza Danica Ahrens, M Adenanta Putra dan Herjun Atna Firdaus turun pada kejuaraan kelas AP250. Sebelumnya Adenanta berhasil memberikan hadiah ulang tahun bagi Indonesia dengan raihan podium pada seri Sugo, Japan, di bulan Agustus lalu. Saat ini dengan torehan point 79, Rheza bertengger di peringkat kedua klasemen pebalap. Sementara itu, Adenanta 49 poin dan Herjun sebanyak 41 total poin. “Saya bertekad untuk meraih poin maksimal di putaran ini utuk mempertahankan peluang menjadi juara Asia kelas AP250. Bersama tim, saya melakukan persiapan maksimal menjelang balapan. Mohon doa dan dukungannya,” ujar Rheza. Berbekal persiapan fisik dan mental serta didukung karakter motorsport CBR250RR yang mumpuni, Rheza, Adenanta, dan Herjun yakin dapat kembali menorehkan hasil positif pada akhir pekan ini. “Saya merasa percaya diri menghadapi balapan ARRC akhir pekan ini. Saya akan berusaha untuk kembali tampil maksimal di putaran Sepang kali ini,” ujar Adenanta. Pada kelas SS600, saat ini Andi Farid Izdihar (Andi Gilang) bertengger di posisi kedua klasemen dengan raihan 82 poin. Sebelumnya Andi Gilang sukses mengibarkan bendera Merah Putih dengan finish di podium kedua race pertama pada putaran ketiga di Sugo, Jepang. Sedangkan Irfan Ardiansyah yang menjadi tandem Andi Gilang di kelas bergengsi itu juga tampil cukup membanggakan dan mampu bertahan di posisi klasemen ke-6 dengan catatan 58 poin. “Saya sangat optimis menghadapi balapan di Sepang. Berbekal pengalaman yang cukup baik di sirkuit ini, persiapan team yang matang, termasuk melakukan latihan dengan ikut serta di Malaysia Superbike beberapa waktu lalu.  Saya akan berusaha sekuat mungkin raih kemenangan untuk team dan Indonesia,” ujar Andi Gilang.
