It took Stiles a couple of delayed moments to notice two very important things. The first, being the iridescent colours that danced across the top when Derek shook the potion. The second, that the room had started to spin around him. From very far away, Stiles registered the calming potion in Derek’s hand, transparent where it should have been blue. Derek brought the potion to his lips.

‘Wait-‘ Stiles started. Then, the room still spinning, he collapsed in a dead faint.

It's been fifteen years, and Derek still has feelings about that Jeep.

[excerpt] “Stiles loved that Jeep,” the Sheriff says with a wistful smile. “It was Claudia’s. When he left it behind…” He turns his gaze elsewhere, at some distant spot beyond Derek’s shoulder.

Derek feels a claw rip through the fragile paper. He’s not sure if the Sheriff changed his mind about allowing Derek to take the Jeep. He doesn’t know what he’ll do if he did.

“I’m doing my best. And I know; I want to get it up and running.” Derek wonders whether the Sheriff thinks he’s fixing it up for resale, or souping it up for an off-road joyride. Both possibilities leave him with an icy anger in his gut.

The Sheriff must understand what he feels, because his face softens. “What I meant is that Stiles loved that Jeep. He put whatever little savings he had into keeping that thing running. So, if he left it behind…” He runs his hand through his hair and sighs. “Sometimes, things are too broken to be fixed.”

Derek nods slowly. He understands. But he also knows it’s not just that things break down. It's that sometimes, people give up on them, too.

Christina! This is such a good prompt, since they both have a myriad of scars to choose from (should I be happy or sad about that?)

Takes place post-series, but references the time Lydia was attacked by a kanima in season 5

“One normal date. That’s all I ask.”

Lydia laughs sharply, stumbling under the weight of her boyfriend’s arm slung around her shoulders. “You’re asking too much.”

“Well, fuck me, then.”

He obviously means it as an expression of frustration, but Lydia still seizes upon the opportunity to joke. “Mm-mmm. Not while you’re bleeding.”

They burst into their motel room, which is trashier than usual. No lobby, no elevator, no breakfast, and despite the No Smoking sign on the door there’s still an ashtray on the round little table.

At least they got a first floor room, so Lydia doesn’t have to drag Stiles up a flight of stairs.

It’s been a rough year. Monroe has a seemingly endless army of hunters to send after supernaturals, making it impossible for them to stay in one place for more than a few weeks. College has been put on hold until further notice—although MIT made it clear that she was welcome back at any time. In fact, they begged her to return at any time when she announced she was taking a year off.

They can’t even go see a movie without some self-righteous asshole crusader firing a crossbow at them.

Well, at Lydia. Stiles, wonderful idiot that he is, jumped in front of her and took a swiping blow to his side.

Lydia peels up his rusted-bloody shirt and applies antiseptic. “It’s not deep. You don’t need stitches.”

“Thank god,” he breathes. His fists are clenched in the bedspread. “I love you, but you’re a butcher with that needle.”

“Thank you. I learned needlepoint when I was in primary.”

“Oh, cool. So can you stitch ‘fuck you’ into my side? The next time someone captures me and pulls my shirt off to torture me, I’d like them to read that first.”

“I’ll get right on that.” Lydia pulls a size-XL bandage from their first-aid kit. “Although a tattoo would be easier.”

Stiles winces as she lays the bandage in place, applying pressure so the adhesive sticks.

“Be good,” she murmurs, running her fingers over the edges. “Shh.” Her touch strays up over his ribs.

He relaxes, a little. As much as one can when a crossbow bolt has grazed one’s side.

His legs part, inviting her to step between them so her torso presses against his. Her arms wind around his shoulders, and his around her waist in a fervent embrace.

Even with him seated and her standing, her head is barely high enough to rest on top of his.

“Mm.” Stiles breathes into her shirt, warm and satisfied. “Oh, hey. We match now.”

“What?”

His fingers dance up her shirt, pulling the hem away to reveal the angry slash on the left side of her stomach. “I’m gonna have a scar, too.”

A shocked sound escapes her lips that’s part laugh and part sob, and she lifts her eyes to the ceiling. How has this become their life? Comparing scars and patching wounds in a dinky motel room?

Of course she remembers the day a reptilian tail sliced through her side, the blood that spilled through her fingers. Creating the wound that still scars her skin to this day.

Her only consolation was that the venom paralyzing her also numbed the worst of her pain. That, and Stiles.

Seeing Stiles there was also a relief. Numbed the pain in a different way. She had to be strong for him, after all. Smile at him, let him know that she was all right. Nothing hurt worse than his horrified expression.

Her fingers wind tightly into his hair. Clinging to him.

“Hey.” His lips are hot against her skin. “Looks good.” And then he’s mouthing at the pearly white ridge, trailing kisses over the scar tissue that will probably mark her for the rest of her life.

“Thanks,” she says breathlessly. Honestly, it’s such a simple gesture that she shouldn’t be aroused by it. Plenty of partners have done the same to her.

But the reverence with which he lays kisses on her, over the part of her that could be perceived as ugly or flawed, the utter sincerity of his compliment…that is what makes her weak at the knees, more than any sensual touch could on its own.

His hands stray around her waist again, but this time under her shirt, tracing the curve of her hips, the hollow of her spine. “We survived. Tonight.”

“Yes, we did.”

“Didn’t finish the movie, but we made it back alive.”

“Very true.”

“Call it a win?”

Lydia purses her lips, futilely resisting the inevitable smile. Stiles’s ability to make her smile is uncanny. “Yes. Call it a win.”

What’s the dynamic between scydia? I never watched Teen Wolf but from what I’ve seen it was always stydia that was popular which I never understood because it didn’t look like much to me from the gifs and stuff I’ve seen 😂

stydia was popular bc it had everything going for it. no other relationship in the show was as extensively developed as theirs save the one between scott and stiles (and you could argue that stydia got even better development than sciles did at some point bc the former didn't require throwing either party under the bus the way sciles did in later seasons). and they were a recreation of a trope that first blossomed into the modern consciousness with dwayne and whitley on a different world, and that was then subsequently revived with seth and summer on the oc (which people very often joke teen wolf ripped off bc the parallels are.. uncanny): the relationship between the uptight rich girl secretly holding back reams of vulnerability and the loser nerd who didn't remotely fit the definition of your classic macho hero but nonetheless recognized uptight rich girl was special the whole time. i haven't watched a different world myself (i want to though!) but i do happen to be the oc obsessed and i honestly believe the appeal is in the self-insert nature of it all. i am a semmer shipper til i die, they are one of my favorite relationships on tv ever, but when you think about it a little more it's no wonder people were drawn to a relationship where the girl was externally blunt and rude to shield her own vulnerability, until that shield was allowed to come down bc she found a boy who worshipped the ground she walked on. summer got to be bitchy and smart and anxious about how people perceived her bc seth took it all in stride and adored her to no end. add on to this the fact that he had had a crush on her since he was ten years old despite the fact that she had never acknowledged him until it was necessitated by chance bc they ran in completely different social circles otherwise. he was the nice guy (with caveats, as there always are), and he got the girl in the end bc he loved her more than anyone

the same logic more or less applies to stydia. in fact, as i aforementioned, the parallels between the oc and teen wolf go down to the core four ship dynamics. stiles had also always loved lydia since he was a kid. he also had always known how smart she was. he was also a nerdy, psychobabbling loser who third wheeled his bestie's relationship with lydia's best friend, which necessitated her acknowledgment of him by chance. and so on and so forth. but what stydia got even more than semmer was the agonizing slow burn. they were literally not canon until the last season of the show meanwhile semmer were together from season one. so you got to see stydia go from being strangers, to acquaintances, to friends, to best friends, and finally to lovers. in addition to all of the self-insert stuff i really think that is what did it for people who watched the show in a stydia bubble. it didn't matter how many extraneous relationships either character was put through (stiles dated two people before he dated lydia, she also dated two people and had a weirdly bordering on sexual but never consummated dynamic with a cop at one point. jeff davis is going to hell), people knew they were meant to be, and that was what made the journey worth it. for me, it had the opposite effect in that i think the slow burn went too far and they dated too many other people for the ending they got to feel completely enjoyable. bc you could tell they genuinely loved and cared for some of the other people they were in relationships with, so the fact that those relationships were more or less only used as props to stall time until stydia actually got together was a bit distasteful and annoying. teen wolf shipping was essentially like musical chairs where everyone dated everyone so a lot of ships easily lost meaning and appeal. they literally had scott date every main girl except lydia, ironically enough

speaking of. sorry for the brief history lesson, but to go back to your original question. scydia basically developed into the show's underrated besties dynamic over time. they started off with a bang bc on scott's first ever full moon he was hormonally wild and made out with lydia even though he had no actual feelings for her, but their one-on-one interactions pretty much tapered off after that bc allison was the conduit through which they co-existed. scott loved allison. lydia loved allison. it was a fact on its face more than anything to really contend with so early on in the show. but throughout the first three seasons, you had scott slowly develop into a leader for the pack, so once lydia started actually becoming cognizant of the development of her powers in season three, that's when things started to shift. they leaned on each other. scott was a good friend and he was there for lydia. lydia trusted scott bc she knew he led with courage and compassion. you finally got: lydia would never run and hide. because of stiles? because of scott. and then, allison died. this is really the big climactic moment for scydia bc yeah they would always be very supportive of each other regardless of whether or not allison was there, but it was the fact that allison died that really made their relationship with each other.. affectionate. tender. forged in steel. they were both irrevocably connected to this one person whom they loved so, so deeply, and she had suddenly been torn from their arms forever. no one, not even stiles, understood that grief the way they did each other's. and from that point on, since allison was gone (and i hate to frame it this way bc then i sound like those heteronormative found family people) lydia slipped into this sort of matriarchal role for the pack alongside scott's pre-existing patriarchal one. she was the head, he was the heart, and they functioned like well-oiled cogs in a machine. stiles was also there but he was sort of the erratic factor in that he went on all of the wild goose chases that contributed to the plot (and to be fair lydia was also critical here as well. they were their own little scooby doo duo)

but anyway, that's the set-up that basically paved the way for their relationship development in the latter half of the show. esp once the writers started to develop this rift between sciles i feel like the appeal of their relationship with each other kind of died and all that was left in its place in terms of a close friendship (bc scott was dating kira at this time. at least before she got written out of the show) was scydia. this was emphasized on even more via the following: not all monsters do monstrous things. like who? like scott. there was basically this unspoken, unbreakable trust between scydia where they were literally each other's ride-or-dies. like i think in the same season that lydia said this scott also let himself be electrocuted (bc werewolves can absorb pain better than humans) so that she wouldn't be. and there were so many little moments where they were each other's rocks, so many little hand holds and meaningful stares between them. and then season five and six are kind of big blobs to me at this point bc the show was so bad by now (like allison dying truly killed the show in terms of plot), but season five for some reason decided to acknowledge that these characters were in school and were about to graduate so they needed to take classes relevant to their career interests. scydia enrolled in ap bio together. lydia bc why wouldn't she, she was the smartest person in the school, and scott bc he wanted to be a veterinarian. except that scott's ability to do well in school had always formed the butt of a joke among his classmates and friends, with the exception of—you guessed it—lydia. she believed in his ability to do well the whole time, which sounds very trivial bc this certainly was not the most important aspect of the plot at all, but it was soooo huge for people who were sick of scott being repeatedly trampled on by the writing of the show bc the writers had recognizes stiles was more popular. for scott to have one friend who truly believed in him and his compassion and his capabilities without conditions felt like dreamland at that point. and that's the last really notable thing i remember about their dynamic before teen wolf decided its final season would be the stiles show (which did provide its fair share of scydia moments to be fair. even if it was all about how much they were trying to remember stiles). but they were really great co-leaders and arguably each other's best friends by the end and i loved it so, so much, regardless of the fact that it was never going to be what i wanted it to be. also the movie that came out this year had some really great scydia content if the gifs are anything to go by. and ironically stiles wasn't in it so like yeah i didn't win but in a way i kinda did. the end

1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore? Christian/Sean from Nip/Tuck. Letting them go was the first step in me trying to free myself from the demon that is Ryan Murphy and his shows.

2. Which ship would you consider your first one? Eric/Jack from Boy Meets World. I shipped them before I even knew what shipping was. You couldn't tell me shit about them and you still can't. They were, are, and always will be in love. You will never change my mind.

3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple? So I didn't get into fic until WAY late, like 2008. Which is weird cause I was on message boards and in so many LJ comms, but I just didn't read it. Keeping that in mind, it was Phlochte. I'm not proud but I'm not as embarrassed as I should be. If you knew anything about those two back then, you'd get it okay. lol

4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over? I don't actually. I still don't seek out fanart, so I'm not surprised I don't remember the first one I saw.

5. Did you ever get into ship discourse? I still have anti-delena and anti-stydia tags on old posts on this account sooo...lol. But I was never in the inbox, messages, comments, or posts of people who actually liked those ships! People just came to me to fight when I would post my hate posts on my own account.

6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently? The previous answer answers that, lol. But I don't have any currently. I've hit the point where if I love a ship that's not happening and/or I hate the main pairing, I tend to just peace out. I only ever had NOTPs cause I wouldn't quit shows, but now I'll drop them. I keep up with my faves through gifsets with no need to actually watch the show.

7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read? WangXian. I finished the show in four days and read all five books in five days. I have been OBSESSED for like a month.

9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together? Of course. I have more noncanon ships than canon since gay ships really just weren't happening back in the day. I also have several ships that got together but broke up, which I think also answers this question. The biggest will always be Shane/Carmen. It's been 18 years since Shane left Carmen at the altar and I'm still mad.

10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting? I'm watching Playboyy and I didn't give a shit about AobPuen and I didn't really care about PromNont but now I'm invested in them both. AobPuen got me in literally one episode. PromNont became intriguing when Prom gave Nont the gun and then it's just built from there.

11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over? I watched and loved Love Syndrome III in 2023 so obviously I have hella ships from the past that would get me cancelled. I regret nothing.

12. What was your favorite crack ship? I honestly think I've only ever had one crack ship and that was ChanBig and it went from laughing online to "I am fully pretending this was actually happening and Chan and Big are fucking in the sky now, thank you, god bless" in record time.

13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics of? This isn't a fair question since a lot of my ships just don't have fic written about them. But I'm currently all up in WangXian fic.

14. What most of your ships usually have in common? I tend to like ships that are ~unhealthy~ ~toxic~ and ~problematic~. No regerts.

15. What do you absolutely hate in a ship? Just not talking to each other. I don't need them to agree, sometimes even on anything, but they have to talk. I don't care if they yell, fight, punch each other, whatever, as long as they talk. I don't like miscommunication because of that either. Because if you're actually talking, there's not miscommunication.

hm okay. as of right now (halfway through season six) i think my ideal pairing are sciles (duh) and… mydia? (would that be their ship name? that’s…. that could be better lylia? hm.) but scott and malia are were-besties and stiles and lydia have something deeper and weirder going on than can be classified by science. like they go on double dates and people are like. “oh huh. wait… huh??” and not just bc of heteronormativity. sciles and maldia (i think that’s the winner) arrive at the bowling alley together as a couple but then scalia leaves together to howl at the moon and stydia leave together to solve a mystery, and also sciles and malydia are making out but stiles and lydia are holding hands?? and earlier lydia was leaning on stiles’ shoulder while he played with her hair, and stydia and scalia spend like 5 minutes each looking deeply into each other’s eyes without saying anything. stydia are like, holding hands while buying tickets to seethe barbie movie together (scalia can’t be there bc the premiere is on the full moon, tragic), and someone’s like “aww you two make such a cute couple <3”. and theyre like “HA uh-what?? no. obviously we’re not dating. yeah i was in love with her for several years and i was the first person she would ever drop her mask around but we’re not DATING that would be insane 🙄” and stiles turns to lydia like “some people make the wildest assumptions” and lydia’s like “ugh i know” and leans her heavy head against his chest

Okay so I’ve been reflecting on the movie and I made a list of all the things that make me happy. You’ve talked about most of them but I feel the need to acknowledge them all again and again:

1. During the movie it’s clear that Lydia treats the breakup like it’s still very emotionally fresh without any signs of her trying to be with anyone else or really get over it. I think that suggests that at the VERY least Stydia we’re together for like…8-10 years. I’m so here for this bc remember when Teen Wolf ended and people were saying they still weren’t technically together, even during 6B?? Or when people said they would probably break up in college and that they wouldn’t last, like NOPE. They stayed together for all that time which (bonus points) means that they had PLENTY of time to live out every domesticity fic we’ve read or imagined and more

2. The language of Lydia leaving Stiles and the duration of their relationship also hint that at the very least they were probably living together, if not engaged or married.

3. At this point I’m just restating the same things but for SEVERAL YEARS they were fully happy together, they never stopped loving each other or got tired of their relationship in that time! I think that gives them the longest running relationship among the teens in the teen wolf canon (that is, if you count the movie as canon)

4. The ONLY thing holding them back from spending the rest of their lives together is a premonition that caused Lydia to break up with him. Without that premonition, they’d be together forever without reservation. I know these are things we would assume as Stydia shippers but other people in the Teen wolf fandom have fought this claim for YEARS and assumed they would break up right after the show.

5. The movie basically set up the resolution to Lydia’s emotional arc as going back to Stiles. Even if we don’t see it for the sake of storytelling it’s reasonable to assume that happens (because if not, what the heck is gonna happen? After that long together they’re just gonna move on?!) Stydia could never. Even some of the reviews and podcasts I’ve listened to about the movie indicated that a reunion between them is extremely probable, and when Jeff Davis was asked if that was possible, he responded “absolutely!” (I really think that man wants to save stuff like that for a sequel and try to get Dylan to be in it which I simply do not see happening)

6. Lydia, the queen of trying to use sex and other men to avoid emotional vulnerability or to regain a sense of control, is not dating someone to try to get over Stiles. She’s not trying to start a relationship with someone to shallowly replace him. The growth🥰

7. In no world is Stiles Stilinski gonna chose safety over being with Lydia Martin. The second that he finds out her reason for leaving (and there’s no way he goes the rest of his life not knowing that is simply too tragic and as much as they put Stiles through they’ve always been set on giving him a happy ending) that man will do whatever it takes to convince Lydia that he chooses her or to figure it out together.
