Top left hand picture is the layers of fat & meat I cut up to layer up with the parts of hearts not sewn together inspired by works of Berlinde De Bruyckere (nxt 3 pictures) & Alsem Kiefer (bottom pic)
It’s important to be able to demonstrate the layering, it has many deep connotations as with the artist depicted above. I hope to develop more creative practice in this direction when I move onto BA honors degree in fine Art

TEXTILE WORKSHOP
A fab couple of weeks playing about in the textiles room. 1st learning how to use disperse dyes and then onto screen printing today. Wasn't to thrilled with most of my outcomes but the yellow & blue which formed a green shadow was my absolute favourite and I’m super chuffed! Could have done with a whole term of textiles as so much more to learn! #strodecollegeartdepartment #textiles #dispersedyes #screenprinting #maturestudent #strodeartfad #strodetextiles #beautifulcolours (at Street, Somerset) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGiHKouFoLn/?igshid=fyrh0nwhw43z
PRIMARY SOURCES: There were many examples in the textile rooms as well as also having a live demonstration from our lecturer. Our lecturer not only showed us how these techniques are done but also showed us several templates we could use and supplied some collected natural materials like dried flowers which, for the disperse dyes technique would be used as barriers from the dye making it a negative print.
SECONDARY SOURCES: many examples were given in the brief and I took two of my most favourite to look at more online.

Really fun and creative drawing zoom with sue today for college!
I made my own brushes using a leaf, ruler, paper tissue, pens and masking tape to create different marks on my pages!
These are the 2 pages I made, a bit messy but super fun and I used coffee for my medium! I had 1 pot which was watered down and another which was a thick paste.

My 3rd example of reconstruction was the use of a mount. I used the cutting of a Japanese maple bush in direct contrast to the plastics.
The union of the natural branch with the man made ‘leaves’ sparks ongoing thoughts & continued conversations...
It tied in my ideas of ‘joining together’ the materials.
The symbiosis of the natural world & human beings.
The use of typography on the leaves to pinpoint current events i.e. trace ~ COVID-19 Pandemic, environmental impacts, plastics in our Oceans, BLM, MeToo.
The use of imagery on the leaves i.e. corn ~ highlighting ongoing conversations around Brexit imports/exports, sustainability, environmental impacts, Climate change, Global food shortages
The use of specific materials e.g. bubble wrap ~ is an interpretation of cotton growing on bushes baring reference to BLM & both historical & modern day slavery
I was inspired in this Textiles workshop on Material play, exploring with recycled materials of which I utilised plastics from my recycling box at home during lockdown.
I am consciously trying to move to a zero use of plastics as my awareness has grown around the devastating impact it is having in our environment. I am mindful of how I can be more sustainable in my Art practice.
It was interesting to note how uncomfortable I was in choosing plastic as my medium. It was provocative material to use & I felt a heightened awareness because of it. My preference is usually natural materials that can return to the Earth with least impact, e.g. biodegradable papers & charcoal, natural fabrics, clay, wood etc. It was a thought~provoking process to work through & I was inspired to bring those ideas together to produce the end product of a union of both natural & manufactured worlds...

TEXTILES
Material Play Workshop
1st March 2021
Starting to manipulate recycled plastics & notice how they behave during deconstruction.
Here the text divides with the emergence of a clear extended stretched under layer distorting its original appearance.

I further experimented with joining the plastics together by other means after unsuccessfully bonding them all together by melting.
The next step, without the use of glue, was to peg 3 different plastic strips together at one end & plait them
This worked relatively well.
Their flexibility & malability worked in their favour & added strength when joined together in a continuous plait
