a think i have learned from deciding to first with hold judgement of my body in the mirror, and then eventually try only look at my physical form with love in my heart:
my stretch marks are different colors depending on how old they are, its subtle but true! the old ones that start at the bottom of my belly are pale with just a hint of gold in the right light, but the parts that are newer across my ribs are just a bit pinker than my natural skin tone and occasionally look just tiny bit lavender. this means i have a cool hombre effect across my tummy.
They also reflect light differently than the rest of my skin, flashing almost a shiny silver when i turn in the light. its subtle again, like the color variation, you have to actively be looking at my stretch marks while i move (without immediately deciding they're a flaw) before you can tell.
This combined with having my little brother once say "the pattern they make looks like flame decals" make me feel like a special card in a trading card game. like im literally a shiny rainbow-flame variant of who i was before i had this many stechmarks. how fucking cool is that!!!
I'm not going to pretend that getting to this level of love with my body was easy. (i started trying to be actively un-hateful to myself almost a decade ago) but i will say that all of that emotional work to get here Was 110% worth it!!! and im so excited to find new cool secrets about my body that i wouldn't have had access to if i still treated each mirror like the enemy.
i Highly recommend starting this journey for yourself no matter your size or shape. it can feel daunting at the being but its all about just reframing the thoughts you have about yourself to be less mean.
Stretch marks are a type of scarring that occurs when the skin stretches rapidly, causing the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis (middle layer of the skin) to break or tear. They usually appear as long, narrow, streaks or stripes on the skin, and can be pink, red, purple, brown and white in color.
Stretch marks are commonly associated with pregnancy, rapid weight gain, growth spurts during puberty, or muscle building. They can appear on various parts of the body, such as the abdomen, breasts, thighs, hips, buttocks, and arms.
While stretch marks are generally harmless and do not cause any medical problems, they can be a cosmetic concern for some people, as they can be unsightly and difficult to conceal. There are various treatments available to for stretch mark removal.
