I love this shot of a stilt bug (Berytidae sp.) doing its thing on a purple-flowering raspberry (Rubus odoratus). This is probably Jalysus wickhami, since they prefer to hang out on plants covered with glandular trichomes (gland-tipped hairs), but I am not sure I can id it to species.
Hope y'all have a Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate!
@yogurtbear242 submitted: This guy delayed my plans to clean the sink, but I thought he was cool looking. Any idea what it is?
Found in [removed] early November. (Please remove the location. And if you need anymore details, let me know! 💕)
What a precious angel! This extremely dainty beautiful babe is a stilt bug, which is a type of true bug in the family Berytidae. They are mostly plant feeders who use their mouth tube to suck sap out :)
He skipped Leg Day. So did the entire family of Stilt Bugs. AKA Thread Bugs
This Berytid is found in the SE and SW of the mainland, as well as in Tasmania. In fact it might be the same species I've seen here in Perth, once. It's the only member of its genus, but other Berytids are found worldwide.
Little is known about their biology, and while most appear to be sap-suckers some have also been observed preying on insects stuck to glandular plant hairs.
okay so controversial take however I think that if you think that Karl Heisenberg is “daddy” or whatever then you are misjudging his character. he is silly. he is goofy. he talks like a radio host. he said “lycans and gentlemen”. he apologizes to Ethan after Sturm is being too loud. i think that whenever he is being suave or charming that he has been practicing that in his head or to the dead bodies that he mechanically mutilates. he is stinky and a dork. he cannot be daddy because he has so many parental issues let’s be honest. he has a corkboard. he thinks that he is smart with people. this man has not socialized in years.
i'm not beating the asexual allegations because every time i have suspected someone is flirting with me i start acting like they are my employee and i am trying to avoid a workplace misconduct violation
watching the princess switch got me thinking about unconscious behaviors and like. if i was replaced by a doppelgänger (willingly or otherwise) the things that would clue my loved ones in probably wouldn’t be random vocabulary or forgetting a handshake—let’s be real, people say weird things and forget stuff all the time, especially me. it would probably instead be things like specific ticks or stims, weird vocal mannerisms, or, like, my opinion on lime green kia souls. there’s so many habits and ingrained behaviors we have that would absolutely set off alarms in people who know us well if they suddenly disappeared
@bgs-cave-o-thots submitted: Hi! We found this little guy on the window curtains, never seen one before! We thought it was a tiny stick bug until we saw how long the wings were. After a bit of googling it looked like something called a stilt bug, does that sound right? Southern Oregon. :)
Hello :) very cute lil friend! And yes, it is indeed a stilt bug in the family Berytidae :))
[VIDEO AND PHOTO TAKEN: MAY 15TH, 2023 | Video and Image IDs: A video and four photos of a dark multi-colored (metallic blue, red, black, white, and orange) stilt-legged fly, waving its front legs around. In the video it is standing on a green leaf of a small plant, while in the photos it is standing on a rough grey concrete brick /End ID.]
I've never seen this kind of fly before! Apparently, the reason why it's waving its front legs around like that is because it's trying to mimic the antenna motions of a wasp, as a defense mechanism! Another interesting instance of a bug saying "Don't fuck with me" by way of dance,,,
