My bestest most favortist comfort characters. The other gems treated her different cause she was born too smol and not as strong as the other Quartz soldiers, but she has the biggest heart. I drew her cause shes the coolest Crystal Gem (besides Peridot. Shes my other fave) as you see i love the smol feisty gems the best. Team shortie!

Pearl !

I've been really into drawing headshots lately, and of course I had to draw Pearl! Should I do more of these headshots? And whooo should I draw?

Pearl's a nice blorbo to have honestly, she's a character the fandom hated at first and then grew to love and I'm glad to see that someone's enjoying her character in the beginning as much as she's liked nowadays. also yeah the whole "fusion is a metaphor for sex" thing was always weird too, especially later on for various reasons. it's mostly because "two people combine to make a new being! like with sex!" but no. it's a relationship metaphor, and not just romantic relationships either. Some people define themselves by their relationship. Others just enjoy it as it comes. Some lose themselves in it. It's all based on communication and trust. It's a conversation. And hey, even if people like each other, that's not necessarily a reason to think they'll have the teamwork to work together like that. And sometimes, relationships just fall apart. Sometimes there's no one to blame for it.

I'm glad to hear people love her now. I can't wait to see how her character grows. 💙✨️

Also yeah I don't see how people didn't get that fusion was obviously not sex. Like even I understood that within the first episode featuring it. And I'm generally someone who very easily misses metaphors in media most of the time. I'm very oblivious with this stuff. But even I managed to understand this. So idk how the fuck other people didn't.

Anyways I think fusion as a metaphor for relationships is genuinely such a fascinating way to explore the topic. It deepens the relationships between the characters in a unique way that, so far, has been utterly fascinating with how it's been used. Plus it's so neat that each combo creates an entirely brand new unique character. It opens up so many possibilities & I'm excited to see what they do with it.

... so are we ever going to talk about the fact that Pearl traumatized every member of the crystal gems or?
