Legendary Poet Mutabaraka Re-emerges With Black Attack Produced By Mad Professor

Dub poet Mutabaraka ceases a 14-year break with the release of "Black Attack" produced by Mad Professor. The dub prophets reconnect to make a perky song about everything in the way of progress for Black people. Mutabaraka's list of problems is serious but Mad Professor's rhythms sound festive despite the gloomy poetic assessment. He explained how the song happened in a statement, “'Black Attack' is attacking all the things that are keeping black people from progressing after 500 years of slavery and now colonialism, I had connected with Mad Professor over ten years ago and he actually sent some riddims but we didn’t connect again until last year when I was in England.”

The single is the first from Mutabaraka's upcoming album also titled Black Attack. He is just as concerned with Black life and freedom as he was when he started publishing his poems in the '70s. His Cutting Edge and Steppin' Razor radio shows were another place where he shared his strong opinions and they were two of the most popular shows in Jamaica. Mutabaraka and Mad Professor performed together at Rototom Sunsplash in Europe earlier this month. Black Attack comes out on October 6th via Shanachie Records. 

Antonio Hardy (born September 10, 1968), known by his stage name Big Daddy Kane, is a rapper who began his career in 1986 as a member of the Juice Crew. He is regarded as one of the most influential and skilled MCs in hip hop. Rolling Stone ranked his song "Ain't No Half-Steppin'" number 25 on its list of The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time, calling him "a master wordsmith of rap's late-golden age and a huge influence on a generation of MCs". He is regarded as one of the most influential and skilled golden-age rappers. MTV put him at No. 7 in their "Greatest MCs of All Time" list. He is placed at No. 4 in the book There's a God on the Mic: The True 50 Greatest MCs. About.com ranked him No. 3 on its list of the "Top 50 MCs of Our Time" and RZA listed him as one of his "Top 5 best MCs". In 2012, The Source ranked him No. 8 on their list of the "Top 50 Lyricists of All Time". AllMusic says "his best material ranks among the finest hip-hop of its era, and his sex-drenched persona was enormously influential on countless future would-be players", and describes him as "an enormously talented battle MC", "one of rap's major talents", refers to his "near-peerless technique" and "first-rate technique and rhyming skills", and says he "had the sheer verbal facility and razor-clean dexterity to ambush any MC and exhilarate anyone who witnessed or heard him perform. His first two albums are considered hip hop classics and Rolling Stone says, "he has received consistent critical kudos". In the book Rap-Up: The Ultimate Guide to Hip-Hop and R&B, Cameron and Devin Lazerine say he is "widely seen as one of the best lyricists of his time and even today regularly gets name-checked by younger dudes", and music journalist Peter Shapiro says he is "perhaps the most complete MC ever". He debuted in Posse and appeared in The Meteor Man. He posed for Playgirl and Madonna's book Sex. Day 18 of the 100 Day Project;

I've always loved Peter Tosh... I still have some of his albums and I saw him live at the Théâtre Saint Denis here in Montreal back in '78. (when I was still in diapers).                                                                                                         During his performance, he changed outfits and lit a variety of blunts & pipes before each song, sending the crowd into fits of laughter and cheers.

A talented musician, activist and all around fascinating individual who met a brutal and tragic end, Tosh is now honoured with his own international day.        - I wonder if he's rolling over in his grave right now screaming Bambaclat!?  and I wonder how glad he'd be to see how things have changed in the 42(!) years since Legalize It hit the charts in '76, and if he'd still consider it a good thing to fight for.  

To my 420 friends & activists out there, here's a thought;  do you really want to buy the herb from a gov't agency???
