Despite years of drought and years without, the cactus thrives, flowering in the center of a desert that grants it no comfort where the only source of shade is its' shadow, and even its' shadow swelters as the sun, unerring, does not blink. Its' spines protect it from the passerby creatures robust enough to travel through the scorching sand but not so robust as to make the sands a home; clinging to those creatures' furs are cackleburrs making stern pilgrimage to scab over and reclaim the wounds left by abandoned spires of metal that once tore open the sky by scouring the earth for resources. They will along those girders, like steelin dead trees, grow a bramble immense enough to topple them and still survive. The bramble, like the cactus, persists couched by Thorne.

Narrative Function

Thorne is an aspect not about hardship itself but about persistence as a response to hardship. It is the determination to feel the brunt of every impact and continue moving forward, to get knocked down and get back up again, to build a future out of spite and petty revenge so you can live well when everything is over.

As Thorne is the aspect of persistence, it can be found represented in trauma responses that present after hardship, as well as the adaptations created to make the hardships pass more bearably, including scabbed over wounds, scars tissue, ptsd, thorns, spines, poisonous tissues, aposematism, defensive odors, detachable limbs. It also encompasses various forms of unlife (persistence through a refusal to die), like lichdom, in settings where that's possible).

Player Tendencies

Thorne players tend toward being scrappy little bastards living life in miserable circumstances. They have to bite and scratch and claw for every scrap of happiness that graces their lives and if they let up for even a moment, if they take a fucking break, everything falls apart as theyr pulled back into the fray by forces beyond their control and beyond their capacity to defeat; but still they persist. If theyr knocked down, they get up again. They always get up again.
