Hastings Miniature Railway - No. 3007 'Firefly' - Sep 1950 by Frederick McLean
Via Flickr:
An old photograph dated 02 Sep 1950, of the 10 1/4" (260mm) gauge Hastings Miniature Railway engine No. 3007 'Firefly'. This is in a rail enthusiast old photo album, on the photo reverse is annotated "0-6-0 No. 3007 at Hastings, 2/9/50, unfortunately there is no photographer name. 'Firefly' history from Wikipedia:- "Firefly, built H.C.S. Bullock, in 1936 (as GWR 0-6-0PT No 3007); rebuilt 1945 by RHDR engineers as 0-6-0 tender locomotive. This engine is perhaps the one most closely associated with the Hastings Miniature Railway, having operated there from the opening of the line in 1948 until 1984, when it was sold to the Kerr's Miniature Railway in Scotland. Having been the principal engine at Hastings, it has retained that role (and the original number, 3007) in Scotland." 🚂 NOTE - Apparently Kerr's railway closed indefinitely on 11 October 2020. The owner said “Nothing’s being sold, the collection is going to stay with the family and it’s going to stay together.” The Hastings Miniature Railway Wikipedia page:- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hastings_Miniature_Railway If there are any errors in the above description please let me know. Thanks. 📷 Any photograph I post on Flickr is an original in my possession, nothing is ever copied/downloaded from another location. 📷 -------------------------------------------------
"The Flying Scotsman in Australia". 4472 and 3801 storm Thorton Bank on a tour to Paterson. Main North, Hunter Valley, NSW, 4th March, 1989. by Dennis Rittson
Via Flickr:
The Flying Scotsman (LNER Class A3 4472) has already been adopted as a hood ornament for 3801, a position she kept for many of her trips around the country. Here both locos are in good form as they storm the short grade out of Thorton Railway Station. They will stop at Maitland for servicing, then continue on to Paterson. Main North, Hunter Valley, NSW, 4th March, 1989.
A rare treat, and not something often seen in the wild, steam locomotive 3237 in good voice cooling her heels at Dubbo platform after a sightseeing round trip from Dubbo to Binnaway, NSW.
Pity the poor fireman shovelling a minimum of 1 tonne of coal an hour for about eight hours with the weather up to 35 degrees C!
Built by Beyer, Peacock & Co, she entered service on 26 February 1893, and retired from full-time service in November 1973, she now does the occasional sight seeing tour with the Lachlan Valley Railway.
A grand old lady of the rails, who with continued TLC still has good years ahead of her. Hope I'm still as game at 130!
LVR's website, where you can learn find upcoming tours, and more details on their amazing fleet of vintage rolling stock is here:
“Der Glaskasten” which translates to Glass box is a little oddball amongst its fellow steam engines. Built for the Bavarian state railway this loco was designed to be driven by one person. To ensure good all around vision it has a lot of windows which resulted in its nickname. Those who watch Sam’s trains on YouTube saw an H0 scale model of this class. I was surprised to see this lil guy in the DDM.
Bonus:
Due to the shitty lighting situation I used automatic control on my camera which resulted in the lense having to be open longer, but I was moving so it gives this wobbly effect. It does give it a different charm.

So, I'm just cleaning up my art folder now... I hope you like seeing the old stuff I pull from there lol. I think this is one of the first animations I tried? Or at least one where I tried a more simple scheme. It worked cause it's shit simple but I do think it's cute. Also the file is literally called "super cool bee-eater" so it has that going for it.
