I'm asking because I very rarely see a "prominent" hackitvist that's not white European/USA

it is definitely a factor yes, especially with me, like the only reason im free rn is because switzerland doesn't extradite citizens. but another very big part of it is that to become a widely prominent hacktivist (and as with many other things) you either need to do things western media cares about or get in trouble with the law big time (in the west), which also usually implies being in a country that actively works together with primarily the US or other empires that actively and publicly work against hacking and hacktivists. there are lots of hacktivists in asia and latin america (specifically phineas fisher here also being a popular figure, who is believed to be in latam and has yet to be caught) as well especially (also elsewhere ofc but i dont know of as many), but they are either doing hacktivism within their communities which are usually not internationally that news worthy, or are out of reach enough for the US empire to never get unmasked.

in a lot of ways being a popular hacktivist as an individual is actually moreso a failing in staying safe from consequences by either you or people you work with (see in the history of lulzsec and most of the now well known anonymous figures in the US) or a conscious choice done out of the knowledge that you'll be relatively safe/recklessness. but i definitely feel like international (social) media bias towards western interests is also just a very big part of why you will mostly only ever hear of (assumed) white european/american hacktivists.

and also just as a quick closing note, i would not say that (even white) people in the US or the US sphere of influence are safe from consequences due to hacking in any way, the US is one of the strictest countries when it comes to persecuting hackers and goes to long ways to be as cruel as possible, and especially so with hacktivists. this goes so far that in the 2020 counterintel report the US government put hacktivists/leaktivists on the top 5 biggest threats to the US government, which is ofc both a honor (and shows it works and scares them) but is ofc also scary as fuck. it is this big spectacle they make out of persecuting hackers and making examples out of them that also leads to more of the very distorted prominence of western hackers.

Israel is the ultimate Omelas

I always thought that Israel was a perfect microcosm of the duality of man because on the one hand they had brutal oppression and on the other it had all those brilliant futurists and scientists, and a great healthcare system that had one of the best responses to covid.

It always baffled me how those two things could coexist in the same country. How those brutal stories of oppression and books of revolutionary thought could be coming from the same place.

Now I'm realizing that this kind of makes it the perfect tyranny.

In totalitarian states like the Nazi dictatorship or sovjet communist states, the population was severely oppressed. We associate the Nazis with blind obedience but actually there was an assassination attempt on him every few months or so, 42 in the 12 years he was Dictator. Bastard kept surviving due to bad luck, like a speech being cancelled due to rain or some intern moving the suitcase with the bomb. The Nazis demanded total obedience and would execute people for speaking French or drawing modern art.

Then there is the USA's corporate rule - not as bad as dictatorships maybe, but much of the population is dirt poor and know their options to vote for are largely corporate stooges. They don't have health care, decent education or consumer protection, so they have reasons to resent their taxes being used for war.

But Israel? The population lives in one of the most advanced utopias on earth! There is healthcare, luxury, culture, even relative freedom as long as you don't say "palestine". If you don't go in the westbank, you don't realize what's going on. The insidious trick of what segregation does is that it keeps the oppressed out of sight.

If you really want to be ignorant, you can probably manage to stay that way, comfortably, and live with all the same comforts as Swedes Canadians and Japanese.

The tyranny does not touch you unless you become a soldier or there happens to be a resistance attack near you, and even in those cases, the propaganda machine has comforting answers for you. Or at least, you're told that ending the tyranny means destroying your utopia - if it's you or a stranger, many people will pick themselves their lifestyle and their family.

Of course the big lie here, or the point where the analogy totally breaks down, is that doing away with appartment and giving equal citizen rights to everyone will not actually do away with the world-class universities and hospitals or even safety... indeed you'd be safer if you didn't keep producing angry traumatized people by butchering their families. It's a false dichotomy. A trap that presents the status quo as some lesser evil.

Euro-americans are fine without Jim Crow laws; Germans did not perish without conquerring Poland; Afrikaners are fine without apartheid - indeed the former disenfranchised people are still catching up economically exty years later. There should probably be affirmative action or reparations, once Palestinians get equal rights.

Nationalism is a myth cooked up as recent as the 19th century. Historically there have never been "pure, unmixed" peoples. People mix and trade and emigrate and copy each other, as long as people have been. You are going to have to live with people different from you & share with them. It's ok. The rest of us learned that lesson too (albeit imperfectly and often at a great cost; The EU is not clean-handed at all and is unforgivable fucking up in many ways as we speak) - No one needs ethnostates. No one is entitled to ethnostates - not Germans, not Euro-Americans, not Hindus, not the Japanese, not Israelis. Ethnostates do not make you safe. Moreover: Ethnostates are not practically feasible.

Look at the area slightly east of where I live and all the bloodshed that came from being unable to draw a line so that all Poles are on one side & all Germans on the other. And now there's still Poles living here and not even a real border anymore. If only we could have made the EU straight away instead of having all those wars, displacements & slaughter!

One day in the far future when there is peace ppl will look back at today and ask "why didn't they stop it sooner why all this waste?"

Eventually you're just gonna have to SHARE the god damn country. Like EVERY OTHER COUNTRY on earth that has multiple languages, religions and ethnic groups.

The Rwandans managed to make peace! And in that case there wasn't even a detachment of technology involved, ppl killed their neighbors (and those who refused to participate in the killing) with bare hands and machetes. Rishi Sunak does not speak for me about Palestine

This may seem a bit of an off-colour post, but I feel like I need to air my grievances regarding the current situation involving Israel's unending attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Recently, the Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, stated that he is in support of Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he referred to as a friend -- choosing to use the words "We want you to win." I, as someone who lives in the UK, and as a supporter of Palestinians in these times, find this statement incredibly fucking disgusting.

Firstly, how dare Sunak speak collectively for a country that he was not publicly elected to lead, but also indicate that there would be positive consequences of Israel's “victory” over the near defenceless Palestinian population.

On top of this, media outlets are now beginning to censor pro-Palestinian sentiments, instead sticking to their guns and labelling any retaliative action taken by the people of Gaza as the actions of Hamas.

This doesn't even go into how dehumanising Israel has been towards Palestinians who, by the order of the Israeli government, have been blockaded within a tiny 25 x 5 mile strip of land, and cannot safely travel to any other part of the fucking country. I find it fucking reprehensible that the Prime Minister of the UK would think that the entire population of the country would stand with him on this.

This explicit endorsement of a government regime who still regards a man who willingly enacts genocide on civilians as a friend makes me further more ashamed to even be a citizen of this country.

And would you like to know the worst part? There is no major political party who opposes this. Labour Leader Keir Starmer has gone on record, stating that Israel "Has the right to self defence." Only now, in response to several Labour MPs resigning from the party under his leadership, does he backtrack on those claims, stating that humanitarian aid should still be given, yet doubling down on his previous point.

I flat-out fucking refuse to stay silent on this topic. If you are a UK citizen reading this, I encourage you, with all my heart, to write to your local MP for a ceasefire in Gaza. Demand it. Show the leader of your area that Rishi Sunak does not speak for us as, not just a country, but as individual people.

It does suck a lot and frankly it’s sad how little coverage this invasion gets esp in USA.

And it honestly is heartbreaking how it no one seems to know about the complete criminalization of LGBT+ community here what happened last year amidst the murders and horrors of war.

However I must state this: I do believe every russian citizen whether they fled the country or decided to stay (or had no choice but to stay) has to at least consider the responsibility for this cruel and bloody invasion.

One Montenegrin government official even e-mailed me he and/or his friend had a summer house where I could safely stay for a while if need arose. I’d only have to have to bring with me a little money for food they said.

Isn’t this a noble diplomatic genture on the part of the Serbian and Montengrin governments to protect a lowly American student such as myself (?) Yes it is. Especially, as I still sit here in my room alone having my human rights stepped all over by American lawmakers right here in New Jersey and New York.

Someone foreign minister from the official Montnegro governmental website emailed me they’d even help me get a place and be safe in their country. The Montnegro Prime Minister’s cabinet member e-mailed me such years ago this.Also, my Serbian friends in Canada offered me their homes to be safe from the West Milford detectives in both Serbia and Montenegro.

"Running has always been part of my life. Even now that I am a senior citizen, God still blesses me with the ability to run three to four times a week and occasionally participate in a race. On sunny days I notice my shadow running with me, coaching me on my stride, posture, and pace. However, on cloudy days my shadow is nowhere to be seen. I am left to run on my own.

We can think about God’s presence or absence in our lives in a similar way. When life is great, we are happy, the world is wonderful, and we feel that God has blessed us. When health problems, marriage troubles, job loss, or financial hardships arise, we may ask, “Where are you God? Why aren’t you here with me?”

But even when we cannot perceive it, God is with us 365 days a year, caring for us and watching over us, no matter what we are experiencing. And God will be there with us until the end of our life’s race." Stay safe with God. No matter where that you are in life; He is there. Do trust Him in all things.

Aunt: It's not like the USA where the new Presient CANNOT easily shut down what the previous President set up for the country. In Jamaica, the new party once in power likes to completely obliterate what the previous government did. Including the good things that brought jobs, progressive or benefited the country. There's NOTHING there to stop it.

Me: what?

Aunt: yes!

Me: that needs to CHANGE...

Me (in my head): I need to figure out HOW to change that because that's FUCKERY. What they new government don't want comparisons or anything to make the opposition look good. At the EXPENSE OF THE CITIZENS. That's ridiculous. That's why Jamaica NEVER progressing. NOT TO MENTION the corruption.

I think I realize the old Grey men in parliament may be the 2/3 majority "whatever" votes the lawyer said I'd need to change such a constitutional thing as the HEAD of State.
