Your brother grabbed your arm and roughly yanked you back towards the party going on down the beach. "Stop being such a bitc-"
"Ow! Quit it, jerk." You tried to shake your arm from his grasp but his fingers dug in, "You're hurting me."
"Don't be such a baby," he growled, stopping far enough away from the bonfire so the crowd of his friends wouldn't overhear. There was a chill in the air and his friends were gathered closer around the flames now. "I told you, if you wanted to tag along you can't just wander off by yourself. Mom would have my ass if something happened to you on my watch."
"Screw you, I'm not a baby. Let. Go."
He finally did.
"They're all ignoring me. I wanna go home." You said, pointing to the mean girls a ways away.
"Well, I'm not taking you. I'm not ready to leave yet." He said, crossing his arms over his chest with a glare.
You knew it was a mistake taking a ride from him in the first place, but you didn't have your own car. And you failed your driver's test over the last weekend. Fun way to spend your sixteenth birthday, with your brother mocking you the whole way home.
"Then I'll walk or call mom to come get me."
"No, you won't. Unless you want her to know that I was right and you are a baby." He stared you down, "Just have a drink and relax for a bit, maybe it'll loosen you up and people will want to talk to you." He glanced back at the busty blonde he'd been eyeing all night; the girl you knew he came here for. He'd only been following her around like a lost puppy all summer. She waved and gave him a little wink. "Stop being so selfish, Y/N, and maybe we'll get along for once."
"I'm selfish?!" You scoffed, you'd only sat around watching the sunset and shuffling your feet in the sand for the past couple hours while he chatted up said blonde. His friends weren't the only ones excluding you. Not that you wanted to be in on that conversation, but you thought the night was going to go a little different. You thought it would be like the old days when things between you weren't so tense all the time. "Just leave me alone and go drool already."
"And you wonder why I never wanna hang out with you anymore." He snapped and stalked away, throwing his arm over the blonde's shoulders when he reached her. Her eyes gleamed in the firelight and you heard her giggle echo along the shoreline when he tickled her sides.
Everyone liked your brother and you tried to be just like him when you were younger. You were only a year apart but it made a world of difference. You didn't even mind wearing his hand-me-downs until you got to high school and got made fun of for it. But you made your peace with it now, you'd always be more of a tomboy and you couldn't be anyone but yourself. Graphic tees, jeans and sneakers were the epitome of comfort and that's what you wore now while the mean girls had skimpy dresses and tank tops that did nothing against the cold breeze that wafted in from over the open water.
But a drink might help.
The beer cooler was up the beach from the horny seventeen and eighteen-year-olds, but you didn't have to pass them to fish one out from melted ice. You cracked it open and took a sip, souring your face instantly and spitting it out onto the sand.
You heard someone chuckle and whipped around. A tall guy with shadows cast on his face stood a few feet away, watching you. You glanced down to the bottle in your hand, then back at him. He followed your eyes, his expression turning stoic before you could read him.
"What?" You asked.
"It's kind of an acquired taste." He nodded towards the bottle in your hand and you took another sip, choking it down to prove him wrong. He wasn't wrong. Beer was gross. "Are you okay?"
"Why wouldn't I be okay?"
He cocked his head towards your brother who was now chasing the blonde down towards the shoreline. You didn't think they'd go in, since it was nearly winter and the water was freezing this time of year. But he teased her and grabbed her like he was going to drag her out into the icy depths.
"Oh. Yeah, he's just an asshole is all and I needed a drink." You explained, raising the beer to your lips for a third sip.
You wanted him to leave already so you could dump the rest out in the bushes.
"Same," he nodded and chugged the rest of his own beer. "He shouldn't treat you like that, though."
You didn't think he overheard but he'd certainly seen the two of you, "He's my brother, that's what brothers do."
You toyed with the label on your beer, peeling it back from the glass.
"No, it's not."
He stepped forward, setting his empty bottle in the bin next to the cooler. The light of the bonfire catching his features enough for you to finally see him. The first thing you noticed was that he was not a friend of your brother's. He was older, too, though you couldn't tell by how much.
He was a party crasher. Probably here for the free beer.
"Whatever. It's not like he hits me, he just gets mad and pushes me around a little." You said, stepping back a foot when the guy took another step towards you.
"He shouldn't. That's called abuse."
"Not when I do the same to him. Then it's called sibling rivalry."
"I know abuse when I see it." His voice lowered as he shoved his hands in his pockets. His words held a story he wasn't telling and you didn't ask.
You eyed him again. Between the full moon and the light of the fire you noted a few details that jumped out at you. He wasn't bad looking, actually kind of cute. His eyes held a world's worth of emotion as if he vaulted it up inside himself and swallowed the key. Days old bruising covered the left side of his face, particularly around his jaw, cheekbone, and eye. And he intermittently sucked on the split in his bottom lip that had reopened, probably from when he first smiled at you.
"Well, your story isn't mine." You said, having had enough of this stranger who thinks he knows your life at a glance. He sighed and looked away, steeling his jaw and rubbing the back of his neck. Your eyes cast down to his stomach when his shirt lifted and your heart sank at the sight. A thick scar stretched up his torso from his hip and disappeared beneath the dark fabric of his shirt, peeking back out around his collarbone where the neck hole had been worn loose. Someone had hurt him, badly; you thought that must've been why he was so conscious towards abuse. "Sorry, I didn't know-"
"Do you wanna go for a walk?" He asked, meeting your eyes and taking another step forward.
You didn't back away this time, though he was still a good five feet away at least.
"Yeah, that sounds like a great idea, taking off with some judgy guy I just met and wandering down a dark secluded beach alone with him. Real smart. Maybe wait until I've had a couple drinks first, then try again." You rolled your eyes making him laugh silently.
"I don't hurt women. Ever." He said as if it was a law of his own.
"What about men?"
"Depends," he shrugged.
"On?"
"I've never started a fight in my life." He said, answering a question you didn't ask rather than the one you did.
"Somehow I don't believe you." You squinted up at him, trying to read him.
"Then why haven't you walked away yet?" He looked at the party continuing around the bonfire and then back at you. "You don't wanna be here any more than I do, so let me show you something."
"I swear if that something is your-"
He raised his hands from his pockets and smiled, "I promise it's not. You'll like this."
"You get five minutes and I'm counting. Also, I'm a black belt so don't even think about trying anything." You lied, although he didn't strike you as the violent type despite the evidence on his face and stomach.
You scanned the beach for your brother, spotting him still engrossed with the blonde, so you knew he wouldn't notice any time soon if you'd left without causing a scene. You dumped your nearly full beer out onto the sand and set it in the bin with the other empty bottles. Ignoring the knowing smirk from the party crasher as you did so.
"Beer is kind of gross."
"Yeah, it is." He chuckled, "but it's cheap and gets the job done."
"I don't see the appeal," you said, following in stride with him down the beach. The sand beneath your sneakers making it hard to keep up with his long legs. "Can you walk slower?"
"Sorry," he slowed his pace and you easily caught up. "Drink a bit more than a couple of sips next time and you will."
"I'd rather waste the calories on chocolate, thank you."
He laughed silently again and sucked the split in his lip, "What's your name?"
"Uh, Y/N, you?"
"Dean." He smiled, shoving his hands in his pockets again. "So, how come I haven't seen you around here before, Y/N?"
"We just moved here," you said, not wanting to explain how you didn't exactly get out much and explore the town over the summer.
"Then you haven't been to the pier?" He asked, cocking his head towards the end of the beach where you were headed.
It wasn't so much a pier as it was a small row of shops and a parking lot. Some storefronts were still lit up against the darkened sky and a lighthouse sat on the rocks near the shore. The light at the top swung around and around over the jagged rocks reaching into the water.
"Seriously? You wanted to show me a lighthouse? That's not exactly special. Lighthouses are a dime a dozen around here, if you haven't noticed." You said a little disappointed and glancing back at the party.
The bonfire merely a speck amongst the stars along the beach now. If you accounted for the walk back it would definitely stretch over the five minutes you'd promised him and you stopped walking.
Dean noticed when you fell behind and turned to you. He laughed a little and smiled, "That's not where we're going."
He reached out to you and grabbed your hand, tugging you gently until you laughed and skipped a step. He was troubled, that was for sure, but you didn't have a reason not to trust him. Not that trust should be given easily without question; but still, you welcomed the warmth of his hand wrapped around yours as he led you across the parking lot and up to one of the shops.
"Ice cream," you stared up at the sign before Dean pulled you into the store.
"Mhm," he licked his lips, guiding you up to the display of tubs sitting in the freezer and separating you from the older blonde woman behind the counter.
She nodded to Dean like she knew him and he smiled back, "Hey, Donna." She didn't react at all to the bruises on his face and your mind started to wander.
"I was starting to think I wasn't gonna see ya before closing," she said, retying her pink apron as if she was getting ready to close up for the night.
"You know me better than that," he feigned hurt and wrapped an arm over your shoulders, tugging you into his side.
You scanned over the flavours, some so bright you wondered if it was possible to taste a colour. "Isn't it kinda cold for ice cream?"
"Never," Dean shook his head like you'd said something foolish. "These shops are seasonal and it's the last night they're open until they close for the winter. You'll have to wait at least four months before you get this again. And trust me, once you try it, winter will feel like an eternity for your tastebuds."
You smiled, you couldn't argue with that logic, "What flavour should I get?" You asked, assuming he'd probably have tried them all by the looks of it.
"My favourite is the mocha with all the little chocolate pieces. It's basic, I know, but classic." He pointed to a tub filled with dark brown speckled ice cream.
"Two mochas, please." You said.
"Sure thing," Donna said and scooped you out a couple of cups.
Dean gave your shoulder a squeeze before giving you some space to enjoy your ice cream.
He kept eyeing you as you took your first bite, then your second, "And?"
"Okay, you're right. It's fudging amazing! Can we get more?" You asked, glancing back at the shop from where you sat outside on a bench under a streetlamp.
"You still have a whole cup.” He barked out a laugh and you shovelled a few spoonfuls into your mouth.
A chilled throb wracked through your brain and you paused mid-bite to squeeze your eyes shut and fan at your frozen mouth. You pressed your tongue against the roof of your mouth and just as the feeling started to ebb away you felt hot, sticky lips lay flush against your forehead. Dean’s hand held the back of your head and you blinked open your eyes, feeling warm and fuzzy.
"Better? My mom used to do that for me when I was a kid. Always seemed to help." He said and tilted his head to the side.
You weren't sure if it was what he did or the shock of the unexpectedness of it, but it dulled the pain. He hadn't backed up an inch and you could see the gold flecks in his green eyes under the streetlamp. Framed by the yellow edges and purple patches of the bruising next to his left eye. His hair was sandy brown and short but still fell over his forehead and brushed the tips of his ears. And freckles speckled across the bridge of his nose on pale skin. He was pretty cute and different from most of the boys you usually met.
You nodded and blushed, sneaking another spoonful of mocha ice cream between your lips. He laughed silently and leaned back, picking back up his own cup of ice cream from the bench next to him and digging in.
"You're strange and kinda wonderful." You said around a bite full, pressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth when the brain-freeze threatened to come back.
"That's oddly the nicest thing someone's said to me in a very long time." He took a bite and licked his spoon clean.
"That makes me sad."
"Makes me happy," he mumbled and smiled.
"Like I said, strange."
"Because you're so cool and composed, right?" He's teased, pointing with his spoon.
"I'm a delight and you know it. That's why you just had to get me away from all those other guys down on the beach. Before they had the chance to notice too, of course." You joked, brushing your hair back when the breeze carried it away.
"You caught me, I'm a sucker for a girl who tries to bite my head off with one wrong look."
"You make me sound like a praying mantis."
"In that case, I guess I'm safe as long as we don't have sex." You both frowned. "Sorry, that was awkward, I swear it sounded funnier in my head. Because you know they only eat their mate after-uh-mating..." He stuck his spoon in his ice cream and stirred until it was smooth like soup, "What?"
"You're blushing," you said, "it's cute." You liked being able to do that to him. "But you should know I'm sixteen."
"Wait. What?" He looked like you'd just punched him in the gut. "But you were drinking."
"When did you have your first beer?"
He thought to himself for a moment, clearly he had been younger than you; then he abandoned his ice cream on the bench beside him. “What about your friends?”
"Some are eighteen. But most are seventeen, same as my brother, they're his friends." You explained. "Don't ask me how they got the beer." You attempted to lighten the mood but he just stared down at his hands, rubbing at the cuts in his knuckles. "How old are you?"
“Too old for you,” he shook his head and picked at one of the scabs. “Twenty-one in January.”
So essentially there was a five year age gap between you. It wouldn’t be a big deal, if only you were older; but for now it didn’t mean you couldn’t be friends. Your gut twisted at the thought of never seeing him again and you could use a friend; and it looked like he could, too.
Your cell rang and you fished it from your back pocket. Your brother's name sprawled over the screen.
You sighed and rolled your eyes, then answered, "What do you want?"
"Are you stupid or stupid? Where the fuck did you go?!" He shouted and you were sure Dean could hear, so you turned down the volume on your phone.
"For a walk."
"We're leaving."
That meant the blonde was tagging along, either hitching a ride home with you or your brother was just going to drop you off at home before taking her to park somewhere and... -You didn't want to think about it. Your brother, like that. Gross.
"Maybe I don't wanna leave yet. I made a friend." Dean mirrored your smile.
"Find your own way home then..." he grumbled a few choice words and hung up. Asshole.
"Any chance you have a car?" You asked, silencing your phone and shoving it back into your pocket. "I need a ride."
"Uh- no. But I know where we can get one." Dean said as he checked the time on his wrist. You fingered your ice cream and booped him on the nose. "What was that for?" He laughed and wiped his nose with the back of his hand.
You shrugged, "Just trying to lighten the mood. You look so sad," you raised his chin with your fingers, "Chin up, Dean."
"Did you mean that?" He asked.
You lowered your hand to rest on the bench between you, "Mean what?"
"That we're friends," he asked, chewing on the split in his lip. At this rate you didn't think it would ever heal over. "I mean, that we can be friends."
"Uh-huh, unless you don't wanna be my friend." You nodded and searched his eyes, some kind of hurt flashing through them.
"I think that's all we can be. At least, until you have a couple more birthdays."
Your typical luck, the one guy you could see yourself interested in and he's too old. It was only nearly five years, sure, but you were only sixteen and he'd probably had a lot more experience that you couldn't compare to. But he was cute.
Window shopping couldn't hurt right, until you had the means to buy.
"I can wait," you teased and laughed. "But you look like you could use a friend. And I got your back, since I kind of owe you one for introducing me to this ice cream."
"You don't owe me anything, Y/N."
You shivered when the ice cream was gone and Dean stripped out of his hoodie, draping it over your shoulders as you walked along the side of the road towards his house. He apparently didn't live far away and if his father was home, he could 'borrow' his car to give you a ride. He actually used air quotes when he said borrow though, so you were a little skeptical.

Masterlist | SPN Fluff Bingo 2022 Masterlist
“Y/N, hurry up!” Charlie’s voice bounced off the concrete walls of the bunker. The microwave beeped and you rushed over, quickly pulling out the steaming paper bag.
“Ouch! Fuck!” Your fingertips slightly burned, but you had dealt with worse— much worse.
“Okay! Okay! I’m coming!” You called back, pouring the freshly-made popcorn into a large metal bowl. You grabbed the second bowl that you had made only minutes before from the counter, rushing over to the Dean Cave.
Movie night was long overdue, and tonight was perfect since Charlie was spending a couple of nights at the bunker after a weekend at Comic-Con in Wichita. You were on popcorn duty after an unanimous vote— excluding you— had decided that you made the best popcorn. You only had to make two bags though, as Cas didn’t eat anything and Sam had his bag of kale chips. Charlie wasn’t the biggest popcorn eater, so you figured she’d just eat some of yours if she felt like it.
You smiled at the scene that greeted you as you walked into the Dean Cave. Jack sat in the front on a beanbag that he had claimed as his own. He was laughing as he talked to Cas. The older angel was seated in one of the armchairs that flanked the left of the long couch. He was nursing a beer— his fifth one to be exact— his eyes shining at Jack’s happiness. Dean was talking to Charlie, both sitting on opposite sides of the couch leaving the middle open for you. Sam was sitting on the other armchair, munching away at his kale chips while on his phone, most likely looking for a new case.
“Thank you, Y/N,” Jack said with a smile when you handed him a bowl of popcorn. You returned his smile and settled into your spot, handing the larger bowl of popcorn to Dean so you could adjust the pillow behind your back. He shoved a handful of the buttery treat into his mouth.
“Mmm,” he groaned, “Delicious as always, sweetheart.” He winked at you, causing little, nervous flutters in your stomach. You looked away before he could notice your blush, locking eyes with Charlie.
“Yeah, Y/N,” she said, her eyes filled with mirth, “Delicious.” She gave you a cheesy wink that had you rolling your eyes.
“Shut up,” you muttered, not wanting Dean to catch wind of your conversation. Luckily, he was too preoccupied throwing popcorn at Jack, while the younger angel tried to catch it in his mouth. After several failed attempts— that left several pieces of popcorn scattered around Jack— Dean focused his attention elsewhere, pelting Sam instead.
“Dude,” Sam said, annoyed as he shook a kernel out of his long hair, “Cut it out.”
“Come on Sammy, a little popcorn never hurt anyone. It sure as hell beats those toasted vegetables you’re munching on,” Dean teased.
“They’re called kale chips, Dean,” Sam said, rolling his eyes at his older brother.
“Why don’t we start the movie?” Charlie interrupted before Dean could respond.
The TV— having been long forgotten since they had chosen the movie— had turned off its screen, but one click of the remote had it up and running. You subtly flinched at the creepy doll blankly staring through the screen.
“A horror movie? Really?” You laughed, hoping no one could hear the slight tremble of nerves in your voice. “Our life is one big horror movie. Don’t you want a change for once?”
“Come on, Y/N. It’s just a stupid storyline with stupid writers who think they know what they’re doing. We face the real deal every day,” Dean argued. “Unless… you’re scared?” Your heart raced as you feigned confidence.
“Please, I fight monsters for a living. I’m not scared of a stupid doll.” He smirked.
“It’s settled then. Cas, hit the lights,” Dean responded, relaxing into the back of the couch.
The lights went out, leaving only the TV to illuminate the room. Charlie started the movie while everyone began to settle in. You shifted to your side, swinging your legs into Dean’s open lap, and he automatically placed his hands over them, drawing little circles on your shins. You nestled into the couch, placing the bowl of popcorn on your lap. Dean reached behind him, grabbing two beer bottles from the table. He handed one to you and took a swig out of the other.
It was a typical horror movie filled with blood, gore, and creepy music. Jack was often confused, asking questions like, “If the doll is a cursed object, why don’t they just burn it?” and “Why aren’t they shooting the ghosts with salt rounds?” Every jump scare had you flinching and clinging on to Dean’s arm— not that the older hunter said anything about it. You swore you caught him smirking a couple of times though.
After what seemed like forever, but was really just a couple of hours at most, the movie was over. Sam got up from his chair, and turned on the light, collecting the empty beer bottles littered around the room. Charlie yawned and stretched, before getting up and announcing she was going to bed. Cas and Jack followed, leaving you and Dean alone in the room.
The popcorn was long gone, the empty bowl abandoned on the floor at some point, and you were practically in Dean’s lap. He was holding you as you huddled into his warm, hard chest.
“Sorry,” he whispered, and you looked up at him in confusion. “Why?” His green eyes met yours, and he gave you a sheepish smile.
“I picked the movie, even though I knew you didn’t like horror movies,” he confessed. “I just wanted to hold you.”
Your eyes narrowed, and you pulled away from his arms. His face fell.
“Sweetheart, I—” You reached behind you for a pillow, and lightly smacked him with it.
“That was for intentionally scaring me,” you told him, before leaning in and kissing his cheek.
“And that?” He muttered, his eyes closed as his cheek tingled from the feeling of your soft lips.
“That was for holding me when I was scared,” you told him, happily, before nestling back into him.
“I’ll hold you forever,” he whispered. His arms wrapped around you tightly, and a light kiss was placed to the top of your head. You sighed, content in his embrace.

Waking up two hours before the alarm went off meant just one thing, your day was going to be very long and very bad.  Well, it actually went worse than what you had expected.  The only thing you wanted was to get home and curl up in a ball and hide from the outside world.
Sometime later, your phone started to ring, Dean, your roommate, and best friend, was calling you; when you started to live together, you came up with an agreement of texting each other when you were home safely and the other wasn't around. Even though you knew you should've texted him, today was different, you couldn't answer his call, you knew you were going to break down and you didn't want that to happen.
You opened your conversation with Dean and texted "I'm sorry, I can't," hoping he wouldn't insist on the phone call. Luckily for you, he didn't call again but he texted you back, "what is it, sweetheart? Talk to me," it was Dean, you knew this was going to happen.
A few tears slipped down your face while you tried to figure out how to tell him what you needed.
“I’m sorry” you texted again, your vision all blurry because of the tears, “baby, don’t close to me. We will figure this out,” he texted right away. You locked up your phone and let your tears fall, “I just want to be held for a little” you finally said sobbing.
Tumblr media
You were so lost in your negative thoughts that you never heard Dean entering the apartment and slipping into the couch with you.
“Shh, it’s okay, sweetheart” he whispered and you finally broke down. Everything has been too much and you couldn’t handle it anymore. Dean moved you to his lap, “Come on, let’s get more comfortable,” Dean said carrying you towards the bedrooms.
At some point, you must’ve cried yourself to sleep, because when you opened your eyes and realized your surroundings, you felt warm, loved, and safe.
You knew Dean was still holding you, the way he engulfed his arms to hold you were unique. The way he hugged you was special, just what you needed. The tears started to fall again, you were overwhelmed, Dean could’ve been anywhere in town at this time, but still, he was here with you, holding you, making you feel safe. “Let it all out, sweetheart. I’m not going anywhere” he whispered tightening his embrace.
Tumblr media
It felt like ages has went by while Dean held you, you weren’t sure how long have you been in Dean’s arms, but you were content, you didn't want it to finish.
“How?” you broke the silence, Dean chuckled, “you told me, sweetheart”. You moved aside a bit to look at his face, your expression showed confusion.
“You accidentally called me and when I picked up the call you said you wanted to be held. I dropped everything and came to you,” he explained.
You sighed, your day had been the worst and longest but Dean was with you, making sure you were fine. You closed your eyes to thank the universe for making you cross paths with him when you felt him kissing your forehead. “I know it can be hard, but sometimes you need to ask. I would never say no to you.” Your eyes brimmed with tears again, you were very emotional, and the slightest hint of love melted your heart.
“What did I do to deserve you? you asked and he chuckled, “Sometimes I ask myself the same thing” he answered, and kissed your forehead again.

Training or Soccer, Sam Picks Soccer
@spnfluffbingo square filled: Hurt Playing a Sport
Warnings: none
Pairing: Dean & Sam (Not wincest)
Word Count: 959
Dean sat in the parking lot of the middle school, the sun starting to set leaving the lot bathed in a soft glow. His hands tapped to the rhythm of the Led Zeppelin song playing in the background. He couldn’t help but think to himself how much happier Sam seemed since joining the soccer team. It had been a hard fought battle, one that almost reached explosive levels between Sam and their father. If Dean hadn’t stepped in it might have even progressed to blows. Luckily, Dean was able to reason with his dad that soccer would keep Sam’s fitness up and work the strategy part of Sam’s brain. Dean was pretty sure that was the only reason that John had caved; it would help with hunts.
With that said, he left strict instructions with Dean that Sam was to spend his Saturday afternoons (because Sam had practice and some games on Saturday mornings) were to be spent practicing with the crossbow. Unfortunately one the more recent hunts required the use of one and Sam fumbled it causing his dad to be extremely upset and harp on practicing those skills specifically. John expected nothing less than perfection. Dean understood since hunting was not something to be lax with, but he was frequently way too harsh on Sam in his opinion.
Luckily for Sam (and Dean realistically), John had taken a string of hunts with Caleb and left the boys for several weeks. John was due to return in a week, but the boys knew that could be extended yet again in an instant. John had left enough money for Dean to find a job that didn’t care about past experience (or lack of proof of) so long as he got the work done.
Dean was shaken out of his thoughts as he saw a shaggy-headed lanky teenager emerge from the building. The first thing that Dean noticed was Sam walking funny. The second thing he noticed was that Sam was trying to cover up the awkward gait. Dean sighed, he had a good idea of how the night would progress and just how much angst he was going to get from the stubborn kid.
“Hey kiddo, how was practice”
“It was fine.”
“Just fine?”
“Yeah”
“Alright, let’s go scrounge up some grub and head to bed. We’ve got a long day tomorrow. After your practice we gotta go work on some more bowhunting.”
Sam sighed “More? Haven’t I improved a ton over the last few weeks? I can handle my own, Dean.”
“I know you can Sammy. But dad left strict instructions. Besides, nothing wrong with extra practice. We can always get better.”
Sam grumbled something under his breath that sounded quite derogatory towards their father to Dean. “What was that?” he asked
“Nothing. Let’s just go home. I want to get as much sleep as possible tonight.”
“Sure thing, Sammy.”
Neither boy spoke for the remainder of the drive. Sam stared out the open window, enjoying the breeze that passed across his face and through his hair. Dean sang softly and tapped to the beat on the steering wheel. Both boys seemed quite content with the world in those few moments.
When the sleek black car pulled up in front of the motel door, Sam grimaced. It was easy to pretend his ankle wasn’t on fire when he wasn’t putting any weight on it. Now he was gonna have to walk into the motel room with his brother, and he wasn’t sure how he was gonna pull off the non-injury. Sam only lasted a few steps, before making a soft whine. His ankle felt way more sore walking on it now than it did leaving the school. But Sam was determined. He kept going, flopping down into the first chair he could once inside the room.
“Alright princess, you can give up the act. I know you’re hurting.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Come on Sammy, I’m not an idiot.”
Sam sighed again and rubbed his hand down his face. He thought he’d at least be able to pull it off until morning. “Alright fine, I twisted my ankle pretty good while doing some drills at the end of practice.”
“Yeah, I figured as much. Let me see.”
Dean knelt down in front of his brother and carefully untied his shoe and pulled off the sock underneath. Sam was always struck with just how gentle his brother could be. His brother was such a dichotomy, gentle and caring older brother opposite of a lethal killer when hunting the things that go bump in the night.
“It looks pretty swollen. I’ll get it wrapped up nice and tight and we’ll get you horizontal on the bed over there. Get some pillows under it and some ibuprofen into you.”
“I don’t need any pain meds, Dean. It’s really not that bad, especially when I’m resting it.”
“It’ll help with the swelling too, Sam. Between the ibuprofen, elevation, ice and wrapping it, you’ll be like new in no time.”
“Like before dad gets home in no time?” Sam asked, his lip caught in between his teeth in nervousness.
“Probably.”
Sam continued to fret thinking about his father’s reaction to an injury from an activity he didn’t want him doing in the first place.
“Don’t worry about him Sam, I’ll take care of it if he’s back before you heal up.”
“Thanks, Dean.” Sam said. Dean watched as he visibly relaxed knowing that his big brother was looking out for him.
Dean gave Sam a noogie on the head. It was the easiest way for him to show his love for his little brother without inducing a chick flick moment. Because you know the rules, no chick flick moments allowed.

_____
You snuggled more into the comforters, wrapping Dean's pillow tighter around your head to block out the cacophony of sounds in the bunker. The high-pitched buzz of the fluorescent lights in the hallway mixed with the constant droning sound of the ventilation system, but neither compared to the silence of your cell phone.
You called the boys fifteen and a half times in the past hour, but still no answer. You were worried, terrified you missed something in the lore that could've led to their demise, because why else haven't they picked up yet. Dean always called you when they finished a hunt with praises on your research skills, you saved their asses plenty of times without even being in the line of fire.
Your forte was in the books, you knew everything about everything, hunters from all parts of the country looked to you for information on vamps, ghouls, djinns, shifters, ghosts, demons, wendigos... You name it, you knew it, and you loved it, spending your days in the library; but sometimes you got a little lost in it and that's when having the boys around really helped.
Dean especially was great at drawing your focus, usually after he'd just tried a new recipe in the kitchen and needed a taste-tester. You didn't have the heart to tell him that most of his 'masterpieces' were mostly inedible, though he did make incredible chocolate chip cookies and apple pie. He made those most often.
You wondered if you'd ever get to taste those again, if the boys would come walking in that bunker door any time soon, if you missed something in the lore. But you had scanned the pages too many times to have missed anything. Something else must've gone wrong.
You couldn't remember how long ago it was that you curled up in Dean's bed. You weren't supposed to be there, you never crawled into his bed unless he was already in it and you couldn't sleep. You started to cry, not heavily, just one or two tears that escaped as you started to rock back and forth and back-
The lights in the room flicked on. You didn't open your eyes until a pair of strong hands pried yours off the edges of Dean's pillow. You met the gaze of the green eyed man of whom you'd come so accustomed to. You've only lived with them for a year now and your diagnosis had never come up, but you couldn't avoid it now, not anymore. Not that you were avoiding it, it just never came up.
You looked away and sat up in his bed. You glanced around at the state his room was in. Dean liked things tidy and you'd made a mess of it. His clothes were thrown over every square inch of his bedroom floor. You glanced back at him, he looked tired but you didn't think he looked angry.
"Before you say anything, I'm sorry!" You blurted out, wiping your cheeks dry.
"Okay," Dean eyed the mess, "You wanna tell me why you look so guilty?"
"You didn't answer your phone, you always answer your phone. I got worried. I'm sorry." You hugged yourself and squinted at the bright lights, "C-can you turn those off, please?"
Dean nodded and turned on the bedside lamp, then flicked off the switch for the ceiling lights. You started to relax slightly in the more dim setting, especially now that you knew he was okay. You sucked in a slow breath not wanting to completely lose it in front of him. How long have you been there? You didn't know and hugged his pillow to your chest.
"Better?" He asked, you nodded, "Were you asleep?" You shook your head and tugged on the trim of the pillow case, "What's wrong, Y/N?"
"I-I was worried," you said, you knew he was looking at you but you couldn't meet his eyes. "Y-you didn't answer your phone."
"Sammy's phone died and I broke mine," he explained, tossing the two pieces of his cell onto the table next to the lamp. You winced at the clattering sound, he noticed but didn't make a comment. Instead he spoke softer, "And that makes you raid my closet?" He asked, pulling on the hem of your shirt sleeve, but you pulled your hand away and you thought you heard him sigh.
You had changed out of your clothes and into his. A pair of sweats, a t-shirt, and the purple plaid of his that you adored. There was just something about his clothes that calmed you, they weren't itchy or confining like yours were. And they smelt like him, at least the flannel did because he'd worn it briefly before he left. You were a little embarrassed when you saw him notice. But Dean never judged you, you loved that about him.
"I needed something soft and your clothes are softer than mine, and it smells like you. It calms me. I'm sorry."
"It's a bit big on you, isn't it, sweetheart?" He laughed and you frowned, "Hey, that was a joke. Y/N?"
You didn't always get his odd sense of humour, he loved sarcasm but you never really understood it, even if you laughed at a couple of his remarks from time to time. You liked it better when he was blatantly silly and told dad-jokes. That's actually how your friendship started out, with bad jokes, that's how he got you out of your shell. With Sam you bonded over research in the library until you surpassed his knowledge and he couldn't teach you anymore, now it was workout routines and health related stuff like early morning runs or protein shakes. You never told Sam that you'd rather eat one of Dean's masterpieces over those protein shakes. But he did start adding berries to yours which helped.
"Sorry..."
"Don't be sorry, Y/N, you haven't done anything wrong." He said, furrowing his brow.
You flinched when he tried to touch your hand again, so instead he huffed and crossed his arms over his chest. You cleared your throat and mirrored him, crossing your arms over the pillow you continued to squish to your chest.
"I'm on the spectrum, Dean." You said, making eye contact for a second and watching his features soften.
"I didn't know," he shook his head and sighed like he should've though. Because you were good friends, best friends; hell, half the time he flirted with you. Hard. That was probably the one thing he made painfully obvious, when he hit on you. But nothing ever came of it. Yet.
"I don't tell many people, at least not until we get to know each other. I'm not embarrassed or anything, it's a part of me and I like who I am. But some days, I just want to be me, you know? Without the label." You explained, shuffling over a bit when Dean sat next to you on the bed.
"I know what you mean, sweetheart," he chewed on his lip for a moment as if contemplating something, "I have ADHD... This is the first time I've told anyone. I won't give Sam the satisfaction of knowing he was right, he's been saying I have it for years and I just know he'll give me that 'I told you so' smirk he likes so much." He laughed and shrugged, "I'll eventually tell him though... One of these days."
"I know."
His eyes widened, "You do?"
"Yeah," you nodded, still tugging on the welt edge of the pillow case.
"How?"
"It's super obvious, Dean. You have way too much energy for someone your age, you're super impulsive, and you're easily distracted." You rambled your observations on his personality from the past year. Those were exactly the things you loved about him though.
"I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that comment about my age." He gave you a pointed stare but you could tell he was teasing because he smiled, "Why'd you tell me now?"
"I've known you for a while now, I trust you won't treat me different. Kinda hard to explain all this too," you said, waving your hand to quickly gesture around the room. You hadn't noticed what you were doing in the moment, but now you realized you'd thrown more than half of his wardrobe onto the floor in your search for his softest clothing.
He shrugged, "Could've just said Cas was here. This is nothing, I've seen him do more damage than this before. I'd have believed it."
You shrugged, "I guess, I'm tired of lying to you, or not telling you the whole truth, especially you."
"You can always tell me the truth, sweetheart, and if I can't relate, I'll try to understand." He said, placing his hand between you like he hoped you'd grab it, "You're not alone, Y/N."
"Thank you," you swallowed, staring at his hand. You wanted to reach out but you couldn't convince your hands to let go of the pillow case.
"No, thank you for trusting me enough to share this with me. I appreciate it and everything you do for us. I honestly think we'd be lost without you. I know I would." He didn't say it in his usual flirting tone, but you knew it wasn't a joke either. There was definitely something more to those four words.
"So, you're not mad about the, y-your room?" You asked, pressing your face into the pillow and side eyeing him.
"No, but I am curious, now that we've brought up this whole honesty thing. What did you think of my last conquest? The bacon corn soufflé, you never did say much." He asked with a raise of his eyebrows and you scrunched up your face, "You know you’re not that great at hiding when you don't like something, why do you think I limit my culinary masterpieces to once a month and instead make cookies and pie mostly now?" He smiled showing off his pearly teeth.
You smiled too, "I could go for some cookies."
"I have half a batch in the freezer, wanna get some with me?"
You shook your head instantly, "It's too loud out there," you motioned to the hallway behind him.
"I have an idea, do you trust me?" He asked and you hesitated but ultimately nodded. Dean pulled open the drawer of his bedside table and pulled out a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, "Can I..?" He gestured as if he was going to put the headphones on you and you let him. It was so quiet and peaceful, you honestly don't know why you didn't think of this sooner.
You saw Dean's lips moving and lifted one side of the headphones, "What?"
"I said," he chuckled softly, "I'm gonna shower real quick and then I'll come get you for cookies and milk, okay?"
"Okay," you agreed and pulled the comforters up, holding them under your chin.
Dean ducked out of the room with a fresh pair of sweats and a tee tucked under his arm. Stopping at the door to glance back at you quickly. You gave him a soft smile and snuggled down into the bed again.
It felt like he was only gone for a second when he returned freshly showered with damp hair and smelling of, lavender? He used your body wash again, that always made you giggle; when tough-guy Dean smelt of pretty purple flowers.
He sat on the bed next to you and you lifted the headphones again, "Snack time?" He asked.
You glanced at the open bedroom door behind him and shook your head, "It's too bright." You let the headphones fall back into place and Dean raised a finger as if he needed a minute and disappeared out the door.
The lights in the hallway dimmed to half their brightness and Dean returned with a grin plastered on his face. He spread out his arms and raised his brows and you found the same smile plastered on your own face as you slid out of bed and followed him into the hall.
Dean left the lights off in the kitchen and grabbed the freezer bag of chocolate chip cookies from the freezer. He split open the bag and dug one out to hand to you, then popped one between his own lips, letting the warmth from his mouth defrost the dough before biting into it.
You sat on the counter and watched Dean move around the kitchen in the dark. He knew it like the back of his hand and in no time at all, there was a glass of milk in his hand and another one next to you. You shared the cookies until there were none and polished off your milk. Dean took the glasses and placed them in the sink before turning to you.
It was a comfortable silence as he stood in front of you but you couldn't hold his gaze for more than a second at a time. Until you caught his top lip and started laughing. You gestured to his milk-moustache and he chuckled by the roll of his shoulders and wiped it away. You wiped your mouth, just in case you had one too. He nodded his head towards the hallway and you followed him back to his room.
You already made up your mind that you were staying with him tonight and since he didn't push you towards your own room, you figured he was fine with that. You crawled into bed and lifted the headphones from your ears. You didn't really want to sleep with them on and you were feeling better now.
Dean grabbed the remote from his bedside table, "What do you say we watch a movie?"
"I don't think I'm up for a movie, De." You said, turning on your side to face him.
"Why not?" He replaced the remote and scooted down in bed next to you. Surprisingly he didn't make any move to touch you after his last few failed attempts and instead propped his head on his hand so he could look down at you comfortably.
"The screen moves too fast and I just need quiet, I still feel on edge a little bit." You explained.
"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?" He asked.
"Hold me," you said, suddenly wanting to feel him surrounding you. He shifted closer and pulled you into his arms tentatively, "Tighter." He hugged you more, "Tighter." He squeezed you.
You sighed and nuzzled your face against his chest, feeling everything melt away as you melted into him. He kissed the top of your head with no intention of letting go and gave you another squeeze.
“Thank you,” you mumbled. “Dean? Can we get a dog?" This was an ongoing battle you were determined to win.
He sighed and kissed the top of your head again, "Only if I get to pick the name."

Wild Hearts (Part 6) - Two Years After Dean Left
Tumblr media
Summary: During her gap year, Y/N goes to visit Dean for his birthday in Sioux Falls while trying to figure out her next step in life.
Masterlist
Pairing: AU!Dean x reader
Square: Car broke down @spnfluffbingo
Word Count: 6,763

A/N: Written for @spnfluffbingo. Enjoy.
_____
Two years after Dean left.
So far, your gap year wasn't turning out the way you'd hoped. You weren't anywhere closer to figuring out what to do with your life and you didn't have the means for backpacking through Europe. Flights and hostels cost money and though you saved up, it would go fast and you'd already figured out that solo travel wasn't for you.
So you bought yourself a car and it was a used piece of junk, but it was yours.
You weren't technically sure if you could categorize it as a car, though. It was more of a rusted piece of tin that would stall like a toddler having a tantrum, for no reason! It was only ever meant to get you from point A to point B, not go on cross-country road trips to see a boy who was never your boyfriend.
Yet here you were, on the side of the road on a particularly balmy day in January, waiting for a tow-truck. You'd almost made it all the way to Sioux Falls and you were so excited to surprise Dean with a blast from his past for his birthday. Then the engine overheated with a jarring clunk sound and you were forced to pull over as it stalled out again. Smoke billowing from under the hood. Stupid car. Stupid road trip. You should've flown but you wanted the time to think. Now you had too much time.
You were wrapped in your long winter coat and sat on the hood of your car. It had long since cooled and the smoke cleared but the dark paint attracted the sun and it was warm as you waited for the tow-truck. You had called the garage that you knew Dean worked at, but you got his uncle on the phone and were expecting him to show up. Instead when the truck finally arrived it wasn't an old man driving it.
"Y/N," Dean said with a look of shock as he stepped down from the truck on bowed legs.
Damn it, surprise ruined. You forced a nervous smile.
"Hey, Dean. How's it hanging?" You said, sliding down from the hood of your car to meet him halfway to his truck parked in front of you. You stood a foot away from each other and shifted your weight from one leg to the other. Not quite the embrace you were hoping for after so long. "Damn it, I should've said something cooler... Surprise!"
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
That wasn't much of a warm welcome either.
Why was this so awkward?
"Uh- um, you know, sightseeing." You pointed to the snow covered field to the right of the quiet highway, squinting at the trees in the distance.
"Yeah because Sioux Falls is the number one tourist destination. In the middle of winter." He said, glancing in the direction you had pointed with nothing substantial to look at.
You'd argue the field still had its charm. Snowflakes sparkling in the sunlight.
Dean looked back at you and cocked his head like he knew you were hiding something. His eyes burrowing into you, set on digging out the truth without the use of words. Somehow it worked and you folded your cards.
"All right, you caught me." You rolled your eyes dramatically, "You sounded kind of sad on the phone when you said you'd be spending your birthday alone and I... didn't want you to."
You left a little late but drove nonstop for as long as you could and made it there with half a day to spare. Tomorrow was Dean's twenty-third birthday!
"Sammy's only gonna be gone one night, I'll still have the morning with him before he leaves for his field trip." He said, still not believing you.
It was partially true, it was the reason you used to convince yourself to come. But the reason you risked the drive in such an unreliable car was different. And he knew it.
"He's in University, they don't call them field trips anymore." You teased but he remained stoic.
You talked on the phone and texted all the time. You should be able to read him better but video calls were glitchy at best lately with the weather and it takes time to be able to read someone's body language again after years apart.
"Why are you here, Y/N?"
"Can't a girl show up for no reason but to celebrate your birthday? I thought you wanted me to visit." You remembered the postcard he'd sent asking you to on your gap year.
"I wanted you to call first. I would've paid for a flight." He said, shoving his ungloved hands into his pockets, likely to keep his fingers warm.
It was winter after all, there was a nip in the air. He didn't wear a toque but the tips of his ears were still protected by his hair which he had let get longer since you last saw him.
You sighed regretting the road trip and feeling stupid for thinking he thought about you as much as you still thought about him. Maybe he wanted you to call first so he could talk you out of making the trip. But then maybe you were over thinking this and letting your insecurities get the best of you. That has been happening a lot lately.
You shrugged and played with your mittens, "I needed to clear my head and driving halfway across the country sounded like a good idea to do that."
He sighed a visible manifestation of his breath, "What's going on? You sounded fine last time we spoke."
"Nothing, I am fine." You chewed on the inside of your cheek and blinked away watery eyes, "I just have no passion for- like, anything."
"I don't know what you're talking about, you are extremely passionate in everything you do." Dean said, somehow knowing this had to do with you struggling to figure out your whole future at eighteen. Sure, some kids had known what they wanted to do since grade school but for you, it felt like it was next to impossible, "You'll figure it out."
"Okay, okay, enough." You said, raising your mitten-clad hands.
You didn't want to think about it anymore. You were finally in a place to explore your feelings with Dean and although that's not why you drove out there, you'd be lying if you said it wasn't in the back of your mind.
"Where are you staying?" He asked, changing the subject.
"About that...? I fit on a couch pretty good."
Dean smiled, he knew exactly what you were getting at and he had the space since he and Sam had moved into their own apartment. "Good thing I got a couch then."
His attention shifted to your car parked on the side of the highway. His eyes scanned over the dents, scraped paint, rust and bald tires; the side mirror barely held on with duct tape and the bent antenna. The radio was staticky at best. His jaw tightened.
"Is this your car?"
"Yeah," you answered tentatively like it was an obvious answer and you knew you were in for a scolding.
"This is your car? This is the car that you decided to drive practically cross-country in?"
Here it was, "Um, yeah."
Dean walked past you to get a closer look at the car. "Y/N, this car couldn't limp to the next exit if it wanted to."
He kicked the tire and frowned back at you. No doubt seeing the extent of the worn tread. And he knew you knew better than to drive it that far. After he started his job at the Singer's Garage with his uncle he'd made sure to give you a lesson about car safety in case you took out your parents' car, let alone get your own. His attempt at teaching you to change a tire via glitchy video chat was by far the most epic of fails.
"That's kind of the problem, it doesn't want to." You quipped, giving him a cute smile to ease the tension but it didn't work.
"Who sold you this piece of junk, anyways?" He asked, looking away from you as if your smile was blinding him.
He kicked the tire again.
"I don't know... Chuck, I think." You said, trying to remember the name of the salesman who sold you the car back home.
"Chuck?" He repeated and laughed silently without humour.
"Yes, Chuck. Why do you keep repeating everything I'm saying?"
"Chuck as in Chuck Shirley's Used Car Lot outside town? Y/N, he's a cheat. He sells nothing but lemons. You should've called me, I would've told you where to go." He sighed in frustration and bit his lip, shoving his hands deeper in his pockets.
"I wanted to surprise you, that was the whole point and I didn't want you to tell me not to come." You said and his green eyes immediately found yours. Your chin quivered either from the cold or what you were about to say next. You weren't sure which. "You don't really seem happy to see me."
"You think I'm not happy to see you?" He asked and his stare softened.
You bit the inside of your cheek, "Well, you are doing that weird repeating-everything-I'm-saying-as-a-question thing again."
"What if you broke down?"
"Uh, I did break down." You pointed to the hunk of tin on four wheels just sitting there.
He rubbed the back of his neck, "I mean, what if you had broken down somewhere I couldn't get to you. Y/N, you could've gotten yourself stranded in the middle of nowhere. Or worse."
"I'm pretty sure two hours outside of Sioux Falls is the middle of nowhere."
"You know what I mean. There are strange people out there."
"I know, I'm looking at one." You teased and pushed his shoulder playfully but he didn't react, "Why are you so worried? Dean, I'm fine, I'm standing right here. You could even do something as crazy as -Oh, I dunno, hug me?"
He cocked his head at you and pointed, "You don't get to own the monopoly on worrying."
He was right, you were always worrying about him especially when you lived in the same town. And the current role reversal was throwing you for a loop. Just another thing you couldn't control.
You pushed back your hair and sighed, "Fine, but can we fast forward to the Dean that's actually glad to see me? I'm starting to think this was a really bad idea."
"In that car, it was a really bad idea." He agreed and you stared at your shoes, holding yourself. "But I am so fucking glad to see you."
He grabbed your shoulders and bent down so his forehead rested against yours. A single tear got away from you as your anxiety about seeing Dean again and everything in between boiled over and you wiped it away with your mitten.
"Really?" You sniffled but it could've been from the cold.
"Yeah, really." He pulled you in for a hug and you rested your cheek against his warm chest. Your arms wrapped around his waist and your hands clutched his jacket in case he decided to pull away before you were willing to let go. "Of course ‘really’, Y/N."
You hummed, "Hm, I'm starting to think this was a good idea again."
You held onto him until your fingers got stiff from the grip you had on him and pulled away. Dean looked down at you and brushed your hair behind your ear. A cold gust of wind turning the shell of it as red as your nose and cheeks. You had probably sat out in the elements a little too long.
"There's no way you're driving that home, by the way. I'm still mad but I can't believe you're actually here. It's like you haven't changed at all." A smile replaced his frown and he looked you over as if he expected you to look a hell of a lot different or maybe older with the time and distance between you.
"It's been two years, a lot has changed, I'm eighteen now!" Your hands went to your hips as you glared up at him.
The truth was that it had only been two years and your reflection in the mirror hadn't changed a lick. You hoped it would, that you'd wake up eighteen and an adult and that mirror would reflect that, but it didn't and you weren't about to admit that even you didn't feel your age. You technically haven't felt any older since you got your license. Birthdays after that kind of lacked lustre.
Maybe that was what it was like getting older though. First you stop feeling like your birthday is a big deal, stop feeling any older despite the number, then the milestones get further and farther between and eventually you have to think about how old you are. Maybe that’s how it was for Dean and maybe that’s why he seemed so far away.
"You're so cute." Dean said and roughed up your hair.
You hated the way it made you feel like a kid counting to ten on your fingers and shoved his hand away. Sure your life was a little unorganized at the moment which probably led to this epiphany about birthdays that you were having but that didn't mean you were a child. He didn't treat you like a child when he met you at sixteen and now you were legally an adult. So what was his problem?
"And you're still strange." You squinted.
"And wonderful, though, right?" He cocked an eyebrow and smirked, remembering the compliment you gave him the first night you met. 'You're strange and kinda wonderful.'
Dean didn't tinker with your car's engine much before he gave up and hooked it up to the tow truck. You didn't think that had any indication on how good of a mechanic he was and more about the state of the engine itself. Every time he tried the key the lights would come on and the starter would spark but the engine kept quiet. You didn't know much about cars other than the basics he'd talked about since you ran out of other stuff to talk about over the phone. But still practical and theory were two very different fields and you couldn't tell the starter from the alternator, though Dean said neither of those seemed to be the problem.
On the drive back to Singer's Garage Dean let you pick the music and you tuned into a country station that he seemed to hate from the first note. So after a song you switched it over to classic rock which you knew was his favourite. The next couple hours were spent listening to him hum along, out of tune, to songs old enough that your father listened to them when he was a teenager. They weren't bad though and you loved the way Dean seemed happier.
You hoped it was real and not some facade he was putting on for your sake. Somehow, you didn't think it was.
Maybe he didn't need you to save him from his birthday alone after all, but he seemed to want you there. He took side glances at you the whole drive back; that had to mean something.
You walked into the garage after Dean. An older man stood at the desk in the office wiping the grease from his hands on a rag. It didn’t seem to help though since the rag itself was already covered in days old worth of oil and grease. He tossed it to the side of the desk when he saw you walk in with Dean.
"Hey, Uncle Bobby, this is Y/N." Dean smiled and wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
"Ah, the infamous Y/N. Me and the Mrs. have heard a lot about you." Bobby said and you blushed.
Dean talked about you when you weren’t around.
"Bobby," Dean warned, side eyeing you and Bobby held his hands up with a smirk pulling at his lips.
"You didn't tell us she was coming to town, son." He said and you saw how that word ‘son’ affected Dean.
Like he actually had a father worth getting to know, one that cared and worried and you loved that for him. Dean deserved to be surrounded by good people that treated him better than his blood had.
He had hindered his own wants since childhood almost to the point that he denied himself of anything good until now. The lighter air about him, especially in the presence of his uncle, made you hope that he'd found a balance and that his move to Sioux Falls was for more than just Sam after all.
You might've been trying to find yourself, so to speak, but maybe you weren't the only one. There was a twinge in your gut that made you feel like you were losing him, to another town, another life you weren’t a part of, and eventually another girl. Even if there wasn't one in the picture now.
You hadn’t talked about relationships and he never mentioned any interest in anyone but you knew you weren’t together either. Dean was all sorts of awesome and a little broken but you admired everything about him; how he could stay calm through uncertainty, say exactly what he thought at any given moment and give up so much for the people he loved without asking for anything in return. You’d never met anyone else like him and compared every boy that asked you out to him, before you inevitably turned them down and skipped prom altogether.
Dean would’ve given you a blast for skipping so you never told him. Instead Benny and Cas took you sand surfing and out to Donna’s for ice cream afterwards. It was sweet and nostalgic and perfect. You wound up spending most of your time with them after Dean and Sam left. The three of you bonded over your love for the boys and the void they left in your life even though you’d only known them for a fraction of the time and still kept in contact with Dean. But sometimes the phone calls weren’t enough and it was just easier to spend time with someone who understood all of that and Benny really was a teddy bear once you got to know him.
You felt safe with them and the age gap didn’t seem to register when there was no chance of attraction. You were hung up on Dean and they knew that. Besides, Benny and Cas still flirted a lot, but never with you. You thought they’d make a cute couple if they ever realized the feeling was mutual and not just casual.
"He didn't know. It was a surprise." You said with a shy smile.
"And you ran into a bit of trouble, I see." Bobby said, walking over to your car that was parked outside the open garage door.
He took a look under the hood that Dean had propped open after disconnecting it from the tow truck and made a face. The same face Dean had made when he looked.
"Nothing Dean can't fix, I'm sure." You said and Dean rubbed the back of his neck.
“I could fix it but the cost would run more than the worth of that car. You said the engine overheats and stalls out regularly, not to mention that it still doesn’t want to turn over. Sorry, Y/N, but without an overhaul of the engine it’s basically a paper weight.”
“I guess, I’m flying home after all then, eh.” You sighed, staring at your two-ton paperweight.
You helped Dean around the garage for the rest of the day. Mainly working on this ridiculous orange shop truck, changing brakes and fluids. He said it was basically ready to sell and that’s how they made business during the lulls in customers. By finding salvageable vehicles and fixing them up. He also made you rotate the tires, though they looked brand new, and you were positive that was just his way of ensuring you knew how to change one; by the fourth tire you felt like a pro.
It was only a few hours before they closed up early for Dean’s birthday dinner. They were celebrating early with Bobby and Jody since Sam wouldn’t be home for dinner on his actual birthday and Bobby invited you along.
Dean took the luggage from your car and stuffed it into the trunk of his Impala. You noted the dents in the front bumper were still there and the headlight was taped up with clear plastic. Dean said he’d been scouring salvage and junkyards for parts but had yet to find any to fit Baby with. You could tell he regretted the damage he’d done to her; it wasn’t her fault, just like how their upbringing wasn’t his. You could tell he connected with her on some spiritual level that people connected with inanimate objects.
When you got to Bobby and Jody’s, a short haired woman greeted Dean with a hug and you with a smile. Until she learnt that you were Y/N and then she pulled you in for a bear hug like you were family. You wondered exactly what Dean had told them about you. However, whatever it was seemed to make a good impression.
Dinner was great and you fell into easy conversation with Sam about his courses. He’d taken the heaviest workload he could and was struggling with studying, so you said you’d send him your playlist for concentrating. You had used it a lot throughout high school and only added to it over the years. It was a mix of easy listening pieces, movie scores, and instrumental works you knew Dean would probably hate.
Dean was delighted in the way you scarfed down your slice of cherry pie. Jody apparently made it for him every year and it was by far the best you’d ever tasted. No wonder he’d bragged about it for as long as he did.
By the end of the night you were full and exhausted from your time on the road. You had only stopped at one motel along the way, and it was a good day’s ride to Sioux Falls from home. So, as much as you would’ve liked to spend the night partying it up with Dean, you were thankful that he just wanted to get back to his apartment and watch a show on Netflix with you.
Dean carried your bag up to their apartment and let you get first dibs on the shower. Sam, of course, went to bed as soon as you got back. It was late and he had that field trip the next day that he needed to be refreshed for. Dean didn’t seem to mind though, he was mostly concerned that you weren’t too tired to hangout. You lied and assured him that you weren’t since you were determined to be awake when the clock struck midnight. But you passed out on the couch as soon as he hit play.
You woke up well past midnight to Dean carrying you. You were too tired to protest and kept your eyes shut when he laid you down in his bed and tucked you in. Then he left and you fell asleep again mumbling a ‘Happy Birthday’ that he wouldn’t have heard.
In the morning you realized he had spent the night on the couch and you woke up snuggled into comforters that smelt like him. The only thing you missed was the heat of his body. It felt weird to miss something you never had.
“Hey, birthday boy.” You yawned, meeting Dean in the kitchen and wrapping your arms around him from behind.
“Hey, sleepyhead.” He said, patting your arms on his waist.
You heard him sizzling something on the stove. A drop of grease spit from the pan and landed on your arm, “Ow.” You released him and rubbed the spot on your arm, “What’s with you and bacon?” He chuckled and you hopped up on the counter stifling another yawn. “Where’s Sammy?”
“He left.”
“Already?”
“It’s the middle of the afternoon, Y/N.” He said and turned to face you. He looked equally as tired, probably from that damned couch.
“Sorry,” you muttered, “Why didn’t you wake me?”
“You were tired and it’s not like either of us have anywhere else to be today.” He shrugged and smiled, “I wanted to ask yesterday but I didn’t wanna pry. How long can you stay?”
“September,” you said hopefully and he laughed.
You technically hadn’t applied to college yet, but you were planning on taking something in the fall. You just didn’t know what and you were trying not to think about application deadlines.
You helped Dean make an early dinner since you hadn’t eaten yet. You peeled potatoes for his ‘famous bacon mashed potatoes’ and he grilled a steak on the small balcony sized barbecue outside. It took longer than a regular barbecue and the sun was setting by the time you sat down with your food in front of the TV.
You were starving and ate quickly while Dean ate at his regular pace. His affinity for adding bacon to almost every recipe including mashed potatoes doing little to curb your appetite. It was actually pretty good and you both grabbed seconds.
"This looks familiar," Dean chuckled, tugging the fabric of your hoodie between his fingers.
Your dinner plates abandoned on the coffee table to be rinsed and washed later.
"I should think so," you grinned and blushed. "It's yours -It was yours, it's mine now."
You clutched the fabric of your hoodie in your hands. It was the sweater Dean had given you the night you met. You'd forgotten to give it back that night when he dropped you off at home and kept it ever since. It was worn but it was your favourite sweater now. It provided warmth and comfort over the years and there was no way you were giving it back.
"Looks better on you anyways." Dean laid his arm along the back of the couch behind you.
"That's what I thought." You smiled at him and his other hand brushed your cheek, his fingertips grazing your jaw as he tucked some hair behind your ear.
"Did I tell you how happy I am that you're here?" He asked, his voice just above a whisper.
The show you were watching faded into the background and all you could hear and feel was the heartbeat in your chest thumping wildly. He held your gaze as his palm warmed your already fiery skin. You wanted him to kiss you but he didn't.
"You saved me, Y/N, I never told you that. I was just barely hanging on when I met you. Surviving everyday just for Sammy, but then you showed me the beauty in life and made me wanna fight for myself again. When I looked at you I saw a future, a glimpse of something that kept me going and maybe it was a fantasy, it felt like a dream, but now-"
You turned and kissed him, tucking your legs underneath yourself so you could push up on your knees to meet his lips with a little weight. Dean's hands clutched your waist, fingers pressing into your skin and you wrapped your arms around his neck.
It wasn't the kiss you wanted. He held back and a tear trailed down his cheek. You pulled apart your lips and he sniffled, his hands still gripping you like you would disappear.
“This can’t work.” He whispered and met your eyes, shaking his head. “You’re everything I want but this won’t end well, it can’t right now, Y/N.”
What? You pushed your brows together, "I would never hurt you, Dean."
"No, but I won't let you hurt yourself either." He pushed you away.
“You’re scared. Of this, of us. That’s it, isn’t it?” You asked, pointing between you.
He sighed and rubbed a palm down his face, “Y/N, you know that’s not true.”
“It’s not just about me, Dean. There’s another reason you’re holding back.”
“Cut me some slack, Y/N, it’s my birthday.” He said, playing the birthday card pretty fast like he had it in his back pocket.
But you didn't drop it.
You placed your hand on his heart and raised his to lay over your breast. Each heartbeat thumping wildly enough to feel the vibrations in your palms.
"Do you feel that? Our hearts are wild, Dean. They wither in cages waiting to be broken. Do yourself a favour. Don't cage your wild heart, set it free." You pleaded. He was the only one you ever wanted, a feeling that was mutual as much as he fought it. "I know you love me."
He kissed you then and it was like lightning coursing through your veins. All thought was lost and your bodies mended together as he crawled over you. Your back pressed into the couch and he held his weight over you as his tongue gained entry to the warmth of your mouth. The air in your lungs replaced with the air in his and his hands grabbed at yours, linking your fingers together and pushing the backs of your palms into the cushions next to your head.
You panted and hummed, breathing heavily through the nips and sucks to your lips and throat. You angled your hips up to his, wrapping your legs around him and pressing your heels into his backside but Dean didn’t close the distance to give you more friction. He just kept kissing you.
You separated your hands from his and pawed at his henley. Dean sat up, pulling you with him and letting you push his shirt up his chest. You tugged it over his head and away from his arms, tossing it to the floor next to the couch.
He leaned in to kiss you again but you stopped him with a hand to his chest. The lamp next to you was lit and it was the first time you'd seen him bare chested. You felt the raised skin beneath your fingertips as his chest rose and fell with each breath.
The scar you had only seen the tail end of that night on the beach ran from his collarbone down the left side of his chest and into the waistband of his jeans towards his hip. Dean sighed when he saw the tears in your eyes and reached for his shirt.
"No, wait," you grabbed his hand and settled into his lap, wrapping yourself around him in a tight hug. You rubbed your hands over his shoulder blades feeling a myriad of raised skin, forming other unseen scars that covered his back. Your chin quivered, faced with the irrefutable proof of the pain his father inflicted on him and you let the tears drip onto the skin of his shoulder. "I'm so sorry. I knew what he did to you but somehow I still didn't know."
"It's over, Y/N, he's never going to touch me or Sam ever again. Not even when he gets out of prison. I'll kill him myself before that happens." He said as if he was promising himself.
You went to kiss him again but he turned away and pushed you off of his lap. You sat next to him on the couch and he slipped his shirt back on and rubbed the nape of his neck, then sighed as looked at you.
That look of lust in Dean's eyes was gone and now he was stopping whatever this was between you before it got out of hand. Even if it was the last thing either of you wanted.
"Y/N. My heart will always beat wild for you whenever we're together, but it's also like I can't think rationally when we're close like this. My mind and body are clouded by this fleeting feeling and when it's gone neither of us are going to feel any better about this. And that's exactly why this can't happen now. You're still trying to figure things out and I can't stand in the way of that. You're not done growing yet. So for now, my heart stays here," he tapped the left side of his chest twice, "And I'm not caging it, I'm containing it because if I released it, it would devour you."
"Couples grow together, Dean. Haven't you ever heard of growing old together."
"Couples grow together when the time is right." He brushed the sweat-dampened hair from his face.
"How do we know when the time is right?" You asked.
"Because it'll be easy... natural.” He explained, cupping your cheek with his palm and running the pad of his thumb along your cheekbone.
"I want it to be easy now." You said, grabbing his wrist as he pulled his hand away.
"Trust me, me too. But when we get there, it'll be worth the wait because there will be nothing standing in our way. You'll know it's what you want." He said as if he still wasn't sure you wanted him.
"I know that now. I want you now." If there was one thing you were sure about, it was that. Your feelings for him had only cemented since you were sixteen.
"You think you know that now, Y/N. You're still young." He said like he still saw the girl he'd first met and finally pulled his hand away.
"Just because I haven't figured out what I want to study doesn't mean I'm a baby. I may never know, Dean." You frowned.
You were more than old enough to know what you wanted in your romantic life. You wanted a man to treat you right like you knew Dean would. He'd proved it time and time again in almost every other way.
"I never said you were a baby. I just want you to take this time to focus on yourself. Be selfish for once. Do you really think it'll be easy to start something now when I live halfway across the country and who knows when we'll get to see each other again." He explained making too much sense for your dopamine soaked brain. "I won't lose you to some meaningless fling when that's the complete opposite of what I want."
"Maybe, I could go to college here." You thought out loud but you liked the sounds of it.
"Or maybe you could figure out what you want rather than make decisions based on me."
"But, Dean-"
"Y/N, how can I ask you to move here for me and shape your life around me when this is only my home for the now."
"What do you mean?" You asked and sank back into the couch, feeling unwanted.
"Sam wants to transfer to Stanford Law after his degree here in USF. That gives me time to get some work experience and him some time to get to know the closest thing we have left to family. That means three and half years from now California will be our home and I don't know what comes after that. I can’t ask you to move with us, take you away from your family, your home, your friends, interrupt your own studies; that’s not fair to you. Maybe one day, when I can take a breath, when we’re both settled... All I want is you happy.”
He was right. You had a chance at a life of your own, the only problem was that it wouldn’t include Dean. Not in any physical form anyhow and you were torn, between building a future, and the boy who taught you to care.
"You make me happy." You decided.
"No. I would make you happy for now but it wouldn't last. You deserve more than that, more than I can give you right now. I plan on changing that, I plan on being the guy that can make your dreams come true, but right now, that's just a fantasy." He explained and shook his head like he could see a future that you couldn't.
One where you were together, but how long would that take? A fantasy. That's exactly what it felt like, a fantasy, meaning it would never come true. He would just keep waiting and wasting time until it was too late.
You knew you didn't want that.
"You're saying 'right now' a lot but tomorrow never comes, Dean."
"Our tomorrow will." He said with conviction in the greens of his eyes. "Just not today, Y/N, sorry."
"All right...” You sighed when you saw Dean’s pout. The way his eyes pleaded for you to understand and you did. Being open to love took more than just turning a certain age and it wasn’t your time yet. “Okay, it’s okay, Dean, I get it.” You smiled, “Happy Birthday."
Dean wasn’t ready. You could see he was overwhelmed and he was still figuring things out for himself. He was willing to wait for you two years ago, now you could wait for him.
You stayed the rest of the month, helping out Dean in the garage with small jobs. Bobby didn’t object even though it probably took you twice the amount of time to change oil as it would if they did it themselves and they had to double check everything you did. Short of retightening a few bolts though, you thought you got the hang of it pretty quick.
When January turned to February and things were starting to get too comfortable, you knew you couldn’t continue to hide in Sioux Falls forever. You had to get back home and take that next step. Otherwise, you were in for a life standing still.
“Y/N, can you come here for a minute?” Dean called from the front door of his apartment.
“Hey,” you walked out from the kitchen, having just put a lasagna in the oven.
Bobby and Jody were coming over for dinner and Sam would be home from class soon.
“Put your boots and coat on, I’ve got something to show you.” He bit back a beaming smile and raised his brows.
“What’s this all about?” You asked, dressing in your winter gear.
“You’ll see,” he smirked and pulled your toque down over your eyes like a blindfold.
“Ugh, Dean, I don’t like this.” You said, stretching out your arms to feel around.
“Two minutes, trust me.” He said, directing you out of the apartment and into the elevator.
You squirmed with his hands on your shoulders as he directed you out into the parking lot, snow crushing under your boots from the storm the night before. You trusted him but you were starting to lose your equilibrium.
“All right, open your eyes.” Dean said, pulling off your toque to reveal the monstrosity of a truck in front of you; with orange paint the shade of a pumpkin. It was the shop truck you had helped him with your first day here. “Before you say anything, you’ll need wheels to get you home and then to college and anywhere else life takes you. I know you think the paint job is ugly but this truck is safe and reliable and best of all, I won’t worry about you driving it. Well... I’ll worry less.”
You shook your head, “The colour is perfect,” and it was, “And I’ll pay you back, I promise.”
“You already have, Y/N. You worked at the garage for no pay.” He said as if a week's pay would've been enough to afford the truck.
“That was fun and you and I both know that I held you guys up all week.” You said and cocked your head with a shy smile.
“No, you didn’t. We liked having you there, you boosted our morale, and Bobby and I wanted to do something to show our appreciation.” He said, holding out the keys for you and jingling them. "Please, just let me do this for you."
You nodded, “I love it.” You launched yourself at him, hugging him tightly around the waist. “Thank you.” You kissed his cheek again and again.
“Now, next time you visit I won’t have to worry about getting a call from you broken down on the side of the road.” He laughed, hugging you back and resting his chin on the top of your head.
“You won’t because it’s your turn to visit me next time.”

Imagine... Dean Knowing How To Cure Your Insomnia

You couldn't sleep, again and there was only one person who could always help with that, "Dean." You tapped on his bedroom door as you pushed it open.
He was sprawled out on his bed, laying on his stomach, "Hey, Y/N."
"What are you doing?"
You lingered by the door. You didn't want to invite yourself in if he wasn't in the mood for company. But honestly you knew Dean would never turn you away.
"Watching reruns of Doctor Sexy M.D., they're airing all night. And pizza," he held a slice up from the box, "I ordered too much, want some?"
"Sure," you said, Dean scooting over and patting the side of his bed.
You padded over and sat down next to him, grabbing a slice of pizza for yourself. You picked off the pepperoni and handed it to Dean like you always did. Pepperoni was too strong for this time of night, but Dean had a stomach of steel and added them to his slice.
It was rerun after rerun of Doctor Sexy M.D., each showing you'd already seen five or ten times and you and Dean reenacted the lines before the characters on the show did. Laughing hysterically when Dean slipped up and got one of the lines wrong and he swatted you with a pillow, claiming you distracted him by making fart sounds. You were making fart sounds with your mouth against your elbow, but you only did it because you loved hearing him laugh.
"So..." Dean alluded, side-eyeing you when you settled down. "Still can't get any sleep, huh?"
Of course he knew, he always knew, "Mmm, not really. I just can't get sleepy." You rolled onto your back and glanced over at him propped up on his elbow.
"I've got an idea, come on." Dean said, hopping out of bed and grabbing your hand.
He pulled you up out of bed before you had a chance to object, "Where are we going?"
"You'll see," he chuckled, tugging you down the hall with him towards the garage.
"Wait, Dean, I'm in my pj's." You argued when he pushed you towards the Impala.
He smiled at you and playfully shoved you in the open door anyways. You landed on the bench-seat in a huff and he shut the door, joining you a moment later in the driver's seat. You glared at him.
"It's fine, nobody's gonna see you but me."
You rolled your eyes, "Ugh... Alright."
Dean drove you out to a field in the middle of nowhere. You had just started to nod off when he put the Impala in park and shut the engine. And now you were awake again.
He threw open his door and stepped out, leaning back inside when you didn't follow, "Come on."
"What are we doing?" You asked, settling into your spot next to him on the hood of the Impala.
He leaned back against the windshield and pointed up at the stars, "Look."
You laid down next to him and stared up at the sky. Stars twinkling and dancing against the endless backdrop of the universe. He didn't say a word, but shuffled closer and wrapped his arm around you.
"It's so pretty," you sighed and he agreed, kissing the top of your head.
A chill ran down your spine and Dean pulled you into his lap, rubbing his hands on your arms to warm you. You leaned your head back against his chest and gazed back at the stars.
"Do you know any constellations?" You asked, you were pretty sure you could pick out one or two.
"Mhm, there’s Orion," he pointed to the southwest and you followed his finger with your eyes, “the Big Dipper," he pointed northeast, "Cassiopeia," he pointed north.
He pointed out a few more but you started to nod off again and shut your eyes. Your breath evening out until he was sure you were asleep.
"Works every time." Dean mumbled, resting his cheek against the crown of your head and shutting his eyes too. "Night, sweetheart."

_____
You felt everything, the beat of your heart pumping in your chest and ears and throat. The tiny hairs on your arms prickling with the goosebumps crawling over your skin. The artificial street lights stinging your wide eyes and tunnelling through your head. Your breath on your lips was heavy and quick. The throbbing need between your legs running through the veins in your thighs.
Fuck.
You shouldn't have taken that 'Aspirin' from your 'friend' at the club. This felt more like a high, like you were flying and couldn't come down. You didn't know what you took. It definitely wasn't Aspirin though.
Your skin misted over with sweat and there was no way you could hide your high. Not with the long Uber ride back to your house for it to take hold of you completely.
Fucking hell.
You paid the uber driver when he dropped you off. At least you thought you did because he drove away without a word and you stumbled up to your front door.
"Had a little much tonight?" Your nosy neighbour, Dean, asked from his front porch as you struggled to penetrate the lock with your key. You weren't holding a key you realized, or your purse and fished out the spare from the plant pot behind you. Trying again. "Here let me help." He jumped over the shared railing of your adjoined houses and slid his hand over yours.
Okay, maybe he wasn't nosy. He was interested, but you never gave him the time of day. For whatever reason you couldn't remember as you blinked up at him and leaned back against the door.
He chuckled and pressed his palm against your cheek. Your skin igniting in a searing flame hotter than an iron left in a fire pit. But it was an enjoyable heat. You closed your eyes, feeling all of him in that single touch.
Damn it, this was too intense.
You couldn't wrap your mind around any of it. Couldn't stop any of the feelings you were having. It was thrilling but scary.
"Y/N," he sounded far away, "I can't open the door with you leaning on it."
"Hmm," you hummed, not hearing him and pressing your cheek further into his palm.
The heat of his body consumed you as he wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you to lean on him instead. Your eyes were still closed and you teased your bottom lip, pressing your face into his neck and holding onto his shoulders for support.
You heard your door creak open on rusted hinges and Dean walked you inside. You couldn't let go. Your skin was on fire and you felt too much of him. You felt dizzy.
"Y/N," he murmured against your ear. His thick breath filled the shell of it and you moaned. Out loud. He chuckled. "I'm flattered but you are wasted. Holy shit, sweetheart, how much did you drink?"
"I don't feel so good," you said, hiding your face in his scruff and swallowing down the bile that started to rise.
"Bathroom?" He asked.
You nodded and he lifted you into his arms.
Your legs locked around his waist causing a whole new sensation for you to be aware of. It felt good at first, but this was too much now. Your mind clouded and you clung to him tighter with a whimper. Your pulse pounding through every inch of you.
Dean grunted when you pulled his hair and you mumbled out a 'Sorry'. Your muscles shook and you were seconds from vomiting all over his back.
He dropped you to your feet and you spun around, landing on your knees in front of the toilet. Emptying the contents of your stomach into the porcelain bowl.
You groaned following your second wave of sickness, Dean brushing your hair from your face and wiping you down with a wet cloth. You welcomed the coolness and started to feel a little better.
Then the shivers started and Dean sat behind you, holding your hair and rubbing your back. It should've felt nice, but it made your stomach roll and you leaned back into him to make the motion of his hand stop.
He wrapped his arms around you instead, "You took something didn't you?"
"I think so."
"I feel like I should bring you to the hospital."
"I'm fine, it's passing. I think I threw up some of it." You wiped your mouth with your hand and wiped your hand on the skirt of your dress.
Your mouth tasted gross coated in bile and you knew you smelled. There were chunks of nachos in your hair. Dean hadn't been able to get it all out with the washcloth.
He rested his chin on your head, "I'm worried about you."
"You worry too much." You breathed, just happy to be still with him for the moment.
Your nerve endings were all on high alert and you felt oversensitive in every way.
You felt him sigh into your hair, "You live alone and you don't ever let me help you with anything. But you're always so sweet and I'd feel bad if something happened to you because you were alone. You need someone right now, please don't push me away. If only just this once."
You didn't answer. You lifted your hands to weakly grip his forearms that rested around your waist. A way letting him know he could stay. He sighed again and squeezed you just a fraction tighter.
When it was clear you were done vomiting, you brushed your teeth. Twice. And rinsed with Listerine.
You looked in the mirror with Dean standing behind you, ready to catch you if your knees gave out. Your pupils were blown wide, all the Y/E/C colour lost on the edges. No wonder your eyes hurt in the light.
Your eyes teared and you played with your crusty hair, "I need a shower." You turned around when Dean shook his head.
"You can barely stand on your own, I don't trust you not to fall."
You wanted a shower still and stared at the glass stall, then him. If he was afraid you'd fall then he'd just have to join you. You lifted your dress over your head and dropped it to the ground. Every exposed inch of Dean turned rosy and he dropped his gaze to your breasts for a split second before he caught himself.
"Fuck." He palmed his mouth, his tongue flicking out to wet his lips. "Please, don't take off anymore. This is hard enough."
You still had your plain underwear and bra on but the way he reacted was as if you were already bare in front of him. You wanted to laugh but your stomach muscles hurt too much to. You took a shaky step forward and lifted his black t-shirt at the hem, working it up his stomach until he took the hint and stripped it off, piling it with your dress on the floor. You reached for his belt buckle next, a little surprised at yourself for the boldness and the fact you'd never seen him this way before, but you knew the drugs were still in your system.
Dean caught your hands and pushed them away. You frowned in disappointment. You wanted to feel him now that you were starting to feel good again. He stared into your eyes for a long second, then dropped his jeans, leaving him in his tightly fitted boxers.
He took your hands again and led you towards the shower, letting the spray heat up before stepping into it with you. You tilted your head back, wetting your hair and feeling the ends of each hair scratch down your back. It felt amazing and you let out a strangled moan, sucking your bottom lip at the end of your breath.
"Y/N, please don't make that sound." Dean said, squeezing your hands in his.
You met his gaze and pushed a hand past his and held his arm near his elbow. The muscles under his skin tensed and you let out a squeak, trying to hold back your noises for his benefit. Though, you thought you only made it worse.
You felt waves of pleasure mixed with waves of sickness over the slightest touch. But the highs were high and you wanted to touch him, taste him; his lips, his earlobes, his throat, his...
"I wanna see you," you pulled your hands free and tugged at his boxers.
You weren't thinking really. Acting purely on desire and impulse. Your nails digging into the wet material of his waistband.
"No." He wriggled away from you, but you persisted until he caught your hands again and pulled them to his chest. "You're high, Y/N, stop."
His fingers felt like handcuffs around your wrists. "Why?"
"Because."
"Because, why?"
"Because I'm trying real hard to be a gentleman right now." He said, you flexed your fingers against the freckled skin of his chest.
Eyes trailing down the curve of his neck, watching the water droplets collect along his collarbone and run off. All thought left your mind and you leaned forward attaching your lips to the curve of it, nipping lightly and trailing up his neck. Feeling his pulse deepen against your delicate flesh. You heard a frustrated groan but you weren't sure which of you it came from.
Dean took your shoulders in his hands and pushed you away to look into your eyes, "That can wait." His voice was deep and thick. You pouted your lip and he kissed your forehead hard. Then added, "Just not tonight, okay? I don't want you to think I took advantage of you in the morning. Now, turn around."
You turned in his hold so you faced the spout of the shower and felt Dean's fingers in your hair. He dragged the strands away from your face and underneath the spray. You turned up the heat of the water until you could feel it in the bones of your toes and your veins glowed bright red against your skin.
"I think you're hot enough," Dean reached in front of you to turn down the heat but you dragged his hand back and laid it flush against your stomach instead. "Let me take care of you."
You let him pull his hand back, feeling it linger on your hip. Maybe the water was too hot. You didn't adjust it though.
Then his fingers were in your hair again, massaging honey and cucumber scented shampoo into your scalp and you closed your eyes. The air around you was so thick with steam that you felt it heavy in your lungs. You started to feel dizzy again in the heat and braced yourself against the wall. The sleek tile against your cheek cooled you down slightly as his nails gently scratched behind your ears and down your neck and then back up again.
He took the nozzle of the shower hose and rinsed out your hair. Repeating the process with some conditioner until the strands slipped through his fingers with ease. You would've fallen asleep had your senses not been in overdrive. Every touch made you want him more and you bit your cheek until you tasted copper and whimpered.
The water shut off and you opened your eyes. Dean wrapping the largest towel you owned around your shoulders and directing you out of the stall. He grabbed a towel off the back of the door for himself and wrapped it around his hips before shimmying out of his wet boxers. He rang them out and tossed them over the door of the shower to dry.
You tried to do the same but your movements weren't as elegant and the towel slipped before Dean caught it, blushing hard. He held it up for you as you removed your bra and panties, tossing them haphazardly to the shower floor.
You hadn't noticed that you were standing in front of the mirror until you grabbed the towel back from Dean. His eyes sunk down from the ceiling when you wrapped the soft material around yourself feeling a little too high to be embarrassed by the show he most likely got. Since the fog on the mirror let up quicker than it took you to change.
Lucky him.
Your eyes fell down his bare chest, water droplets still clinging to his skin as you chewed on your lip again. It was blatantly obvious what you were thinking and Dean seemed to shift uncomfortably when you wet your lips.
He cleared his throat and you met his gaze, "Stop looking at me like that."
"Hm, like what?" Your gaze fell again.
"Like that! Like I'm a piece of meat."
"I seem to remember you looking at me a lot like that." You said, winking at him playfully. "Like when I come home from the gym in my purple leggings."
"That's different."
"How?"
"I don't know, it just is."
"Why?"
"Because, it is."
"Because it is, why?"
"I'm not doing this with you again, Y/N." He sighed and breathed into his palm, rubbing the scruff on his chin. "It's just different."
"That's a double standard." You crossed your arms over your chest, glaring up at him.
"One I enjoy immensely," he smirked and mirrored your flirty wink.
You pouted, "But it's not fair. You have a nice body, why can't I notice, too?"
"You're right," he sighed and placed his hands on your shoulders, "Do me a favour though, don't notice until you're sober."
"Why?" You asked again but he didn't answer like you thought he would this time.
He just chuckled and pulled you into his chest, "Let's get you to bed, Y/N. Walk this way."
He twirled you around and shuffled behind you as he directed you towards the bedroom. The layout of his house mirrored yours so you weren't surprised when he found your room on the first try when he pushed one of the doors open.
"But I'm not sleepy," you whined and twirled back around when Dean nudged you towards the bed.
He sighed again, "What if I lay down with you for a while? Could you try to sleep it off then?"
"Yeah," you beamed and nodded, throwing back the comforters to crawl into the bed.
You didn't think you could spend the night in that big bed alone. Not tonight, not the way you were feeling. You felt like an open sore, achy and oozing. Even if Dean didn't want to be intimate until you were sober enough to remember the night you'd have with him, at least he could hold your pieces together and keep you from falling apart completely.
You squirmed until he slipped into bed next to you and you were able to curl into his side and cling to him. Your skin heated uncomfortably though, so you wiggled out of your towel and threw it across the room. You heard Dean huff out a nervous laugh as you cuddled into him again and pressed your face into his flushed neck. Your bare chest pressed to his and you felt a tingle rush through the sensitive peaks of flesh meeting his.
You might've made a small noise of contentment, but you couldn't hear past your own ears. You sighed, feeling Dean swallow and catch your wandering hand against his lower stomach. He held your palm over his heart instead and the heavy thump, thump of it lulled you to sleep. Near sleep at least, as you closed your eyes and breathed in his scent.
"You're not gonna leave, right? Like I'm not gonna wake up in the middle of the night and you won't be here?" You asked, your skin humming against his.
"I'll be here when you wake up, sweetheart," he promised, his voice deep and husky again like he'd just woken up. "I'll even make you breakfast."
"No way! Like pancakes and bacon and eggs and-"
"Yes," Dean chuckled, "Whatever you want, I'll make it for you. Just sleep now, and no funny business." He squeezed your palm in his as if he wasn't the only one aware that only a thin piece of damp material separated the two of you, "I mean it, Y/N."
You giggled and laced your fingers together. Happy with the buzz stemming from the pulse in your fingertips syncing with his. That's what it felt like, your hearts beating to the same drum. You wondered if he felt it too, or if it was just another side effect of the drug.
"Dean. I dare you to kiss me."
You pulled your face from his neck and tilted your head up to him. He looked at you for a moment and smirked, the smile reaching his eyes and crinkling the corners. He leaned in close and cupped your cheek with both your hands still entwined. Then kissed you on the forehead and chuckled when you sulked.
"Dare me tomorrow." He said, releasing your hand to tug the comforters over your shoulders.
You relented and placed your palm back over his heart, allowing the thump to pull you asleep this time. Letting the drugs finally wear thin as you slept them off. All night. And waking in the morning in the same position with Dean's hand on your waist and a tired fog clouding your mind. His thumb aimlessly brushing back and forth over your skin.
"How long have you been awake?" You asked as the events from the night before started to replay in your mind. This time with a new level of embarrassment creeping into your cheeks. "I'm not wearing any pyjamas, am I?"
"Nope." He said, checking your pupils in the morning sunlight streaming through breaks in the curtains. Seemingly satisfied, he smirked. "Still dare me?"
It only took a second for your cheeks to burn and you realized that line you'd drawn with him when you first moved in a year ago needed to be reevaluated. "Yeah."
Dean's hand left your waist and he lifted your chin with a finger. He dipped his head at an angle and fit his lips perfectly over yours. Kissing you with the weight of a feather for only a second.
You almost missed it, "I dare you to kiss me like I know you want to." You said.
He smiled as his fingers trailed up your jaw and tangled in the hair on the nape of your neck. He brushed his lips against yours teasingly and chuckled before he smashed his mouth to yours. Sucking the breath straight from your lungs until they burned in a way that wasn't displeasing. He pulled away, then ducked back in for another kiss and then another one. Kissing you so many times that you felt high all over again. A better type of high this time though. A natural high.
Your lips chilled without the warmth of his mouth when he finally pulled away.
"Dare me to try again?" He asked and you bit your lip as you nodded. Dean kissed you breathless once more before he remembered, "I promised you breakfast, didn't I?"

_____
Dean hadn't touched you in three months. Your relationship had been in a rut ever since that ghost hunt that left you near dead and Sam in a cast. You tried everything from jumping his bones, to wearing practically non-existent lingerie, to even a can of whip cream and a couple cherries you'd rather not talk about.
Nothing worked. He blamed himself too heavily on this one and you couldn't convince him otherwise. Fortunately, he hadn't tried to break up with you but if your past was any indicator, that was just yet to happen.
So you decided to take a different approach and sat the latest hunt out to decorate the crap out of the bunker. You had coloured lights and garland wrapped around the staircase and a beautiful tree you found in storage set up on top of the war table.
You had a fully decked out turkey dinner prepared with all the fixings and for dessert there were zucchini oatmeal muffins for Sam and pumpkin pie for Dean. Everything still in the oven to keep warm since they would be walking in the door any minute now.
Christmas was always Dean's favourite time of year and last year with the apocalypse looming over your heads, you didn't get to celebrate the way you would've liked. With loads of homemade food and family and board games and hallmark movies and cheap gifts from the gas station down the street.
It wasn't about what you got, it was about the time you spent together. Times were tough lately, for longer than you cared to remember; this was your way of bringing joy back into Sam and Dean's lives if only for one night.
You all needed a break from your worries.
You took a step back and examined your handiwork. The library was almost unrecognizable, hidden in evergreen garlands and lights and patches of holly, glass ornaments and fake candles. All that was missing now was the final touch.
Mistletoe!
You set up the step-stool in the entrance of the library. You had Dean install a hook for the ball of mistletoe a couple years ago, which was still there, but the stool wasn't quite tall enough and you had to really stretch and hold your breath to be able to reach it. It was more than a little troublesome and you let out a long breath once you hooked the ribbon on. You smiled up at the ball of white and green and sunk back down to your heels from your tip-toes.
"Did elves throw up in here or something, Y/N? What is all of this?" You jumped and stumbled off the stool at the sound of Dean's voice.
You hadn't heard him come in. That child-like sense of wonder his eyes usually wore at the sight of Christmas decorations wasn't there.
"How'd the hunt go? Where's Sam?" You asked and shoved the stool under the table in the library.
"Same old shit, different day." Dean huffed and walked into the library.
He dropped his duffle-bag of weapons onto the floor with a loud clunk sound and Sam appeared from the hallway wearing a scowl.
"Really, Y/N?" Sam frowned as his eyes darted from garlands to candles to the ball of mistletoe.
He always was a bit of a grinch. It was the most colourful and bright the bunker had ever been. You went a tad overboard but in a good way. At least you thought so.
"Seriously, Sam? It’s Christmas Eve!”
"Yeah, well... Enjoy 'cuz I'm outta here." Sam said, giving Dean the stink eye.
Great, they were fighting. Again.
"Dido," Dean said, mirroring his little brother's bitch face.
Then both boys practically growled at each other and stormed back down the hallway towards their separate rooms. You hung back in the library to admire your handiwork regrettably, this hadn't gone the way you'd expected. And you couldn't chase after them either, you had to check on the food.
You grudgingly padded down the hall towards the kitchen, starting again when you turned the corner to see Sam was already investigating the smouldering oven.
He glanced back at you when you asked, "Is it burnt?"
"Uh," he gave you a sympathetic look like he finally caught onto what you were trying to do for them. Then your bottom lip quivered and he was quick to add, "No, no. It's not that bad, we -uh, we can salvage it."
Sam shoved his large hands into the oven mitts and pulled out the turkey first. The whole top of it was burnt, but the pie and muffins suspiciously seemed to be okay since they were on the bottom rack.
"I just wanted things to be like before," you said, popping a muffin from the tray to check the bottom of it. Burnt, just like you thought. No doubt the pie would be too. You popped the top of the muffin off and tasted a piece of the edge. "Why are you guys fighting this time?"
"Honestly, Y/N, I don't know." Sam sighed and you offered him a piece of the muffin top, "Did you put zucchini in these?" He asked around the bite he took.
"I knew you probably wouldn't eat the pie, health freak." You quipped and Sam chuckled. "Sorry it's burnt."
"Nah, the top's the best part anyways." He gave you a quick side hug which you returned.
"Sammy, you know I don't really believe you, right?" You knew he knew very well why they were arguing, he just didn't want to tell you.
He pursed his lips, "What gave me away?"
"You never say honestly unless you're lying." You squinted up at him and smirked when his stoic face broke. You knew him too well. "Was it about me?"
"Dean's just protective, Y/N."
"OVER-protective, you mean." You rolled your eyes and set the rest of the muffin top on the counter, "I hope you took my side, I always take yours." Sam didn't answer and instantly you knew he didn't. Your mouth dropped open at the obvious betrayal. It was an unspoken rule that you and Sam always had each other's backs.  "Samuel William Winchester!"
He pointed at you, "Y/N, you were dead-"
He was talking about that hunt. The hunt that put your relationship with his brother in a rut and him in a cast for two months. The ghost hunt.
You threw up your arms in protest, "Only for two whole minutes! That barely counts!"
"You didn't see him," Sam shook his head and avoided your eyes, "If you didn't come back... He's never been in love before-"
"In what?"
Four years of dating Dean and he never once said it... 'I love you'. How hard was that?!
Sam rubbed the back of his head, "Uh-"
"Wait, then why were you guys fighting if you took his side? Traitor," you muttered the last part under your breath.
"Because he's acting like he's gotta death wish," Sam explained.
"So, classic pissed-off-Dean then."
"Exactly! But he's not the only one that hated that day. You scared me, Y/N, you're my best-friend, you're family and it wouldn't be the same around here without you." Sam argued, but you understood where he was coming from.
You felt the same thing every time they did something stupid and almost got themselves killed.
"It hasn't been the same with me lately." You sighed and hopped up to sit on the metal island.
"Look, I appreciate what you are trying to do here with the food and the decorations-"
"But?" You tilted your head and he gave you his best puppy dog face.
"But, I think you'll have a better chance at getting through to him if I take off for a bit."
"Sam, you don't have to do that. This is your home too and it's plenty big enough for us all." You frowned and furrowed your brow.
"Uh, yeah, but I was gonna go see a friend anyways." He rubbed the back of his head nervously.
"Friend?" You thought for a moment, "Eileen?! Finally! You know she asks me about you all the time."
"Yeah," Sam blushed and cleared his throat, "Good luck, Y/N."
"You too, Sammy." You gave him a wink and he headed for the door, "Remember to be safe. No glove, no love!"
Your incessant teasing only made Sam high-tail it out of there faster than you thought a moose was able to move. You were still giggling at just how red you were able to make him turn when you passed by Dean's bedroom. The room you'd been sharing with him for the past three and a half years now. Number eleven.
When you heard something, a whimpering... -Or a moan?
You rested your ear against the wooden door. Definitely moaning! That was not the type of sound he made when he was having a nightmare either, you should know!
You threw open the door, letting it hit the wall with a bang and Dean jolted up in bed. His brow was sweaty and he was panting when you noticed the tent and his right hand in his sweatpants.
"Y/N! It-it's not what it looks like." He pulled his hand from his pants and you scrunched up your face.
Normally, you wouldn't give a shit if Dean wanted to have a little self-love, but you couldn't get him to kiss you lately. Hell, he didn't even cuddle you unless he was already out cold and rolling over in his sleep. And that's on the nights he even cared to come to bed at all! He spent most of his time passed-out in the Dean cave in front of the TV, surrounded by too many empty beer bottles.
You couldn't believe it, you were jealous of his right hand; that's how fucking pent up and frustrated you were.
"Why won't you touch me anymore, huh?" You asked a stunned Dean who didn't bother to get out of the bed. "Are you trying to push me away? Is that what this is?... You're not even gonna try to deny it?!"
You growled inwardly to yourself and walked away before he had a chance to speak. You didn't even bother to shut the door, you just picked up the pace and sprinted to the library. Then started ripping the garlands down until you spotted the mistletoe. That fucking traditional ball of forced Christmas kissing and cheer was taunting you like a clown with it's thumbs in it's ears.
Admittedly, you were at the end of your rope. The mistletoe looked nothing like a clown nor did it have hands let alone thumbs or ears.
You dragged the step stool out from under the table and in a second, ripped the ball of mistletoe from its perch on the hook and tore the ribbon.
"Y/N, we need to talk."
You turned to find Dean standing in the doorway, slightly hunched over to hide the state he was in. Like it wasn't fucking obvious that he didn't finish. And 'we need to talk'? Was he fucking kidding? He was finally gonna break up with you, like this?! You almost hoped so, so then you could stop driving yourself crazy about him.
"Why don't you just go back to your cartoon porn!" You chucked the ball of mistletoe at him and hit him exactly where you intended to.
"...It's anime-"
"Oh, I'm sorry, anime." You snapped dryly and rolled your eyes.
You hopped off the stool and continued destroying your hours of work decorating. Muttering curses under your breath at how stupid your idea was. You burnt dinner and the fucking decorations did nothing to improve anyones mood.
"Y/N, stop." Dean said, when you stepped on a bulb and felt a little pinch but you ignored it and him. "Stop!" He grabbed you from behind and held on tight as you thrashed against his hold. "Stop, sweetheart."
His hold tightened and he buried his face in your neck when you sobbed. You stopped fighting and sucked in a shaky breath and a hiccup. It took a long minute until you were able to relax slightly and he pressed a kiss to your cheek when you did.
"Here, look." Dean said, pulling his phone from his pocket.
He showed you the video he'd been watching while he was alone in the room with himself. It was of you, two summers ago, at the beach. You were holding his hand and tugging him towards the ocean, turning and laughing at him when he said the water was too cold. He was really just afraid of sharks. Eventually he let go of your hand and stayed on shore while you waded in, up to your knees and splashed him with the salty brine. It was a great weekend.
"I'm sorry," he whispered in your ear and locked his phone as he tossed it on top of the bookcase. "I've been such an idiot. I thought I could do this but I can't. I just- I just love you. Too. Damn. Much."
You turned in his hold, feeling all of him against your backside as you did. "What did you just say?"
You couldn't believe your ears. He never said that, not because he didn't feel it, you saw it in his eyes every time you were alone together, every time things got heated or whenever you brought home pie... but, for him to actually say it was a big deal!
"I love you," he rested his forehead on yours and stared into your eyes.
"So," you squinted and teased your lips against his, "I guess this means you're not gonna break up with me?"
"You'll have to kill me first." He said and kissed your breath away.
His hand cradling the back of your head and tilting your mouth to accept him better. Then his tongue swiped across your lip and you parted your lips to let him in. Savouring the way his muscle slid against yours before you broke the kiss.
"You know you're always the one saying that a hunter's life is short-"
Dean's lips locked with yours again and you felt every inch of your skin burst into flames, "And your point is?"
"We shouldn't be wasting any of the time we do have together," you nuzzled his cheek with your nose and felt him sigh, "Are you done pushing me away?"
"Mhm," he nodded, his face against yours.
His skin was dewey with sweat and you could smell the musk he'd worked up by himself. It made you weak in the knees and if it weren't for his hands on your lower back you'd be a puddle on the floor by now.
You pulled away when he tried to kiss you again, "Promise?"
"I promise," he said and chased your lips.
You let him capture your lips with his and tangled your fingers in his short hair. His big hands slipped lower and cradled your butt in his palms. You squeaked when he squeezed, leaving indents of his fingers no doubt and you pulled his hair until he groaned into your mouth.
"I'm sorry I threw the mistletoe at your balls."
Dean laughed and hummed, "Maybe you can kiss them better."
**************************************
He backed you up against the table, pressing moist heavy kisses all over your neck. It sent tingles through your veins and down to your toes before you felt it settle in your stomach.
All thought was lost.
You laid back on the table, allowing Dean more access to your neck as he placed kisses trailing along your flushed skin and past your collarbone. He pulled the collar of your shirt down and continued kissing between your breasts. His hand pawing at one of your peaks as the other laced together with your hand and held it down against the hardwood of the tabletop. His hardwood pressing against your inner thigh as he slotted himself between your legs.
You turned your head to the side as Dean nibbled at your jaw and pushed up your shirt. You laid next to the initials you all carved into the wood; yours and Dean's forever etched together and encased in a heart. He was romantic in his own way sometimes.
You pushed on Dean's chest until he backed up and allowed you the space to sit up. You tugged off your shirt and jumped off the table to rid Dean of his too. Then you grabbed his waist and turned him around just to shove him back against the table. He fell onto it with a grunt and watched as you pushed your leggings down your legs along with your panties.
"You are so damn perfect," he groaned as you rid yourself of your bra, but he was looking into your big Y/E/C eyes when you met his gaze.
You thought that must've taken quite a bit of will power and chewed on your bottom lip as your own eyes drank in his vulnerable form. He was propped up on muscular arms and his tummy tensed as you dragged your fingertips from his navel to his waist band.
"Fuck, Y/N," Dean groaned though you had barely touched him and he tried to sit up but you pushed him back down. You giggled and slowly pulled his sweatpants down his bowed legs, leaving him as bare as you were. "Get that cute ass of yours up here now."
You weren't particularly fond of his command, especially after three months of lost touches and mixed feelings. So instead, you decided to tease him by kissing the inside of his knee. Then you kissed a little higher, and sunk your teeth in the fleshy part of his thigh. A little love bite that had him growling in an octave lower than natural and he fell back against the tabletop. His head hit with a loud thunk sound and you popped up from between his thighs to see him desperately trying to catch his breath.
"Oh my gosh, Dean! Are you okay?!" You rushed out and climbed on top of him to feel the back of his head.
Dean grabbed your neck and pulled you in for a heated kiss. It was months of pent up carnal desire and he had to break the kiss to pant into your mouth; fitting his lips to yours whenever he felt he had enough breath. It was like he'd just run a marathon and you felt his heart beating through his chest under your palm.
"I swear you're gonna be the death of me, sweetheart." He said and let his head thunk down on the table again, "Y/N, I just want you so bad."
"I want you, too, Dean. So. Bad." You breathed, "It's been way too fucking long."
"I'm sorry, baby. Never again."
You kissed his jaw and kitten licked down his neck as you reached between your misted bodies to line him up with your core. Dean grunted and held his breath as you sunk down slowly, determined to take him all at once. It had been a while and it stung a little with the stretch but soon enough all you felt was pleasure.
You started slowly, grinding into him and teasing him tirelessly and without remorse. It was gratifying to watch him writhe with lust for you as you gave him just enough to keep him on the edge. You thought he never looked like he wanted you more, not just anyone... you. But soon enough you needed more too and you rolled your hips and bounced on him until you were just as out of breath. Dean's hands found your breasts and he pawed at them, his fingers buried into the flesh as he held onto you and you felt him begin to twitch inside you. You wanted to keep up with him and slipped your fingers down to your centre; the touch inspiring a pulse in your nerves.
Dean felt it too and wrapped his arms around your shoulders, pulling your chest flush to his as he took over. He braced his feet on the edge of the table and thrust up into you hard. You whimpered and tried to meet his thrusts, nibbling on his earlobe until he groaned loud and long and the sound sent you over the edge. Your orgasm stretching into his as he thrust a few more times, losing his rhythm and shuddering beneath you. His hands finding your ass and his fingernails imprinting on your cheeks as he held you to him.
Dean groaned again, "Fuck, Y/N, you're amazing."
He kissed your shoulder as he rode out his high and you nuzzled your face into the crook of his neck. You kissed his pulse point, feeling the strong thump in his chest beat against yours like you were at a concert standing next to a bass speaker.
He sighed as he came down, "My beautiful girl."
You wanted to stay with him, on top of him, just like this and you weren't exactly crushing him so you did and you mumbled against his skin, "I love you. Merry Christmas, Dean."
"Merry Christmas, Y/N." He chuckled and panted as he rubbed his hands up and down your back. "I love you, too. Always."

Sam's POV
“Hey, Dean, are you feeling okay?” I asked after glancing at him from the passenger seat in the Impala a few times over the last half hour.
He'd been acting off since we stopped at the dinner a few hours back. He looked paler by the minute and his stomach kept making this weird growling sound. He always put on a strong face, but I could tell when he wasn’t feeling well.
“I’m good.” Dean grumbled, keeping his eyes glued to the road.
“Want me to drive for a bit?” I offered, pushing him slightly.
“I said 'I’m good'. I can do it.” He grunted, gripping the steering wheel until his knuckles were white and I reached over, placing the back of my hand on his forehead.
“Dean, you're burning up,” I worried before he shoved away my hand and growled.
“I’m fine, man, get off me.”
“Would you just stop for a minute and pull over.” I argued, pointing out the sign for the exit coming up.
“Y/N’s waiting for us… we’ve only got another four hours to go.” Dean said, glancing at his wristwatch.
We were on our way to meet Y/N a couple of states over who called up looking for some back up with a vamp nest she had stumbled onto. Y/N Y/L/N was quite the hunter, nearly as tough as a Winchester and I knew Dean had a thing for her since we'd met her. But she never fell for his playboy facade.
“I think she’s gonna have to wait a little longer than that. You’re sick, dude.” I announced.
“No, I’m not.”
“Yeah, you are.”
“Nu-uh-”
“Here, take this exit, we’ll regroup at a motel and call Y/N. It’s late anyways.” I insisted, Dean taking the off ramp without much convincing.
“Fine, but only because you’re tired.” He caved, pulling into the first motel he saw.
I checked us in, letting Dean sit in the car, surprisingly without any argument despite his utter denial of being sick. Insisting every step of the way that he was fine and he didn't want to keep Y/N waiting. Yet, the second I unlocked the door to the motel room, he pushed past me, rushing into the bathroom and slamming the door shut.
It was close quarters and it was easy to tell that he was tossing his cookies, quite a bit actually. I knocked twice but he told me to give him a minute, adding in a few choice words here and there between bouts of hurling.
I decided to give him some space and called up Y/N letting her know that we weren't going to make it there according to our previous conversation. And gave her the number of some hunter nearby that I thought could help her out instead. Dean would be furious if he knew I pawned the job off on someone else, mainly because he just wanted to see Y/N, poor guy was jonesing pretty hard for her. But I would rather her have some sort of backup than go at it alone.
"Dean?" I called through the door once the sound of his hurling stopped.
"Hey, give me five minutes for a shower and I'll be good to hit the road." He said, opening the door and leaning against the frame, looking all sorts of wrecked.
"You're kidding me, right?!" I glared down at my big brother, giving him my classic bitch face; he was always acting too tough for his own good. "I called Y/N, she said the hunt can wait until you’re feeling better.” I lied, for now. I'd tell him in the morning about the other hunter, when he was feeling better.
“I’m not sick, Sam, I feel fine."
But the grip he held on the door frame said otherwise and I swear if people could actually turn green... Dean spun around and keeled over the toilet, hanging his head in the porcelain bowl as he practically threw up another lung.
“Yeah, not sick, my ass... Eh, tough-guy?" I chuckled at the eye roll he attempted, no doubt making himself dizzy with the motion and he held his head with an elbow propped on the edge of the tub.
“Shut up. At least you don’t gotta hold my hair back, Rapunzel.” Dean grunted, squeezing his eyes shut.
"Are you good for a bit if I head out?" I asked, digging around for the keys to Baby in his jacket that he had tossed onto the ground.
"Yeah, where are you going?" He questioned without opening his eyes.
"I saw a twenty-four hour pharmacy a couple of streets back."
"Dude, I'm fi-"
"'Fine', I know. I'm still going." I said, cutting him off.
Dean just groaned in response and I headed out, making sure the door to the room was locked when I left. I would never admit it to him, but every time I got the chance to sit behind the wheel of the Impala I revelled, the purr of the engine under the weight of my foot was something else; it was a wonder he ever let me drive at all. There was more to it than a regular car getting you from point A to point B. It was class, muscle, and confidence in shiny black paint.
I pulled into the pharmacy and grabbed a bunch of stuff I thought might help including ibuprofen, cold & flu meds, Pepto, ginger ale, and Gatorade. A couple packs of microwavable soup mix and some saltine crackers, too. I flashed the cashier a soft smile and kind eyes, hoping she wouldn't read too much into the fake name on my credit card when I handed it over. And she didn't, keeping her eyes fixed on my hair as I ran my fingers through my mane, just for fun really. Dean would never understand the power of long hair.
When I returned I found Dean passed out in the bathtub of all places, fully dressed too. It wasn't as if he had tried to take a shower, he legitimately made a rational decision to climb in there in search of sleep. I had to admit it was kinda funny, but also I felt kind of bad and decided he'd be better off in bed with a trash bin on the floor next to him. I figured the worst had passed if he was asleep, but I still wanted to get some meds into him so he could get some peaceful rest instead of feeling whatever level of shit he was that makes him crawl into a metal tub to pass out.
"Dean, wake up." I said, tapping the side of the tub with my foot.
If it had been any other scenario I would've turned the shower on, but it seemed cruel in his state. Even if he had it coming after putting itching powder in my underwear. Instead, I just poked him.
"Get off," Dean mumbled and I poked him again. "Cut it out."
"You're such a grump when you're sick." I chuckled, pulling him up to his feet half conscious. He rested most of his weight on my shoulders and I practically had to drag him over to his bed. I eased him down onto the mattress and he instantly curled up with the pillow. "See, now isn't better than sleeping in the tub of a grungy motel bathroom?"
"I was excited to see Y/N..." Dean whispered sheepishly, hugging his pillow and I checked his temperature with the back of my hand. When I was satisfied he no longer felt hot, I tossed the other half of the comforters over him. "It's been months since she's called."
“Then, I guess it's a good thing she's on her way, huh?" I revealed, Y/N having called me up on my way back from the pharmacy. She was going to stop by in the morning after her and the other hunter dealt with the vamps.
"Is she really?" He asked with as much excitement as he could muster and I grinned. "And before you answer, just know it would be cruel to lie to a sick guy."
"So you finally admit you are sick?" I feigned shock and fetched the Pepto from the bag on the table, pouring out a dose for him in the cap.
"Only a little bit." Dean admitted, happily accepting the chalky substance.
"Just try to get some sleep for now. She’ll be here when you wake up.”
I set the bottle and cap on the nightstand next to him and brought over a bottle of ginger ale and Gatorade. So he'd have a choice of the two when he wanted a drink. Then, I sat up on my own bed and grabbed the remote to turn on the television, flipping through the channels aimlessly until I was sure Dean would be fine and got a couple hours of shut eye myself.
_____
Y/N's POV
“Hey, sleepy-head. How are you feeling?” You asked, cupping Dean’s cheek and brushing the pad of your thumb over his clammy skin.
He didn't look too bad, but you were happy you made the drive even if you were tired from being up all night. The vamps you were hunting turned out to be simpler and faster than you thought to take care of, too. Especially with the help of that hunter Sam had sent your way.
“Better now that you’re here,” he mumbled sleepily, leaning his cheek into your palm and you grinned.
“Hasn’t Sam been taking care of you?” You tsked, glancing over at the giant sitting up on the other twin bed. Sam giving you an unimpressed look and continuing to scroll through whatever he was looking up on his laptop.
“Uh-huh, but he’s not you.” Dean smirked, opening his green eyes just a crack so he could see your face.
"You're such a suck when you're sick." You chuckled and brushed his hair back.
It was a little sweaty from the night before and he didn't smell all that great either, but it was still better than the vamp blood you had on your jacket. Which you had tossed into the trunk of your car before you made the drive up. It desperately needed a wash along with most of your other clothes.
"Only when you're here, actually." Sam chimed in, rolling his eyes and you figured there had been some brotherly quarrelling going on before you got there.
"Shut it, Sasquatch."
"Watch it, big brother, or next time I'll let you sleep in the bathtub." Sam warned with an amused stare and you laughed at the exchange.
"Sorry," Dean muttered, not sounding completely convincing, though Sam accepted it. "What happened with the vamp nest?”
“Don’t worry about it, De, I took care of them.” You assured, Sam having told you not to bring up the other hunter just yet and you added, knowing Dean would need a little push. “I didn’t really need your help anyways, I was just using it as an excuse to see you again."
“Bet this wasn’t exactly what you had in mind, huh?” He quipped and you twirled a lock of his hair between your fingers.
“Nah, but that’s okay. Wanna watch some shitty daytime TV program and laze around in bed all day?” You raised your eyebrows and bit your lip in question.
He nodded and you sat down beside him with your back against the headboard, flipping through the channels with the scanner in one hand and playing with his hair with the other. Dean hummed every now and again when you ran your fingers through his hair and you couldn't help but smile down at him. He had unconsciously snuggled closer to you so that his head lay in your lap, but you didn't mind if that's what he needed to feel better. You liked sick, cuddly Dean a lot more than playboy Dean, he was too cocky for your liking.
“Wait, go back,” Dean said, pointing at the TV.
“What, this?” You asked, flipping back to a channel with some sort of hospital soap opera playing.
“Yeah, guilty pleasure.” He shrugged with a tinge of red in his cheeks that you thought was ridiculously cute.
You left the doctor show on, despite Dean only watching half of it with his eyes closed for the rest. You didn't mind, but you did wonder why in the hell the doctor was wearing cowboy boots. It seemed impractical for that workplace environment and you figured you'd ask him about it later.
"Feeling better?" You asked, lightly scratching the hair behind Dean's ear, moving your fingertips down his hairline until you saw goosebumps form on the skin of his neck and he shuddered contentedly and hummed.
"Mhm."
Dean sighed, throwing his arm over your thighs in a strange attempt at a hug that you embraced. You giggled softly, brushing his hair forward so that it stood on end reminding you of a sleepy hedgehog and then smoothing it back down again. You did that a couple more times until you heard a dry heave come from the bed next to you.
"You guys make me sick." Sam commented with a palm to his mouth.
"Very funny," Dean said, assuming he was teasing but Sam set aside his laptop and pushed himself up from the bed slowly, a dubious look on his face.
"No, I'm serious, I don't feel great." He said, rushing into the bathroom a moment later, holding his stomach.
"Ugh, you Winchesters don't make my life easy." You groaned, sliding your legs out from under Dean's head and replacing yourself with a pillow.
"Maybe you should keep your distance, sweetheart. Don't need you getting sick too." He stated sadly, trying to sit up so he could go check on Sam but you pushed him to lay back down.
"Don't worry about me, De. I got my flu shot. Besides, who else is gonna take care of you two, hm?" You smiled at him, brushing his messy hair back from his face and grabbing the Pepto on the nightstand next to you. "I swear, I don't know how you two survive without me."
"S'not easy." Dean laughed, resting back on the bed, still exhausted from the night before.
You chuckled softly, leaning over to press a kiss to his forehead and he closed his green eyes, humming at the feel. Then, you pulled away and made your way over to the bathroom to check on Sam.

_____
Dean was looking at you with fire in his eyes, for a long time; you could practically hear the blood rushing through his veins, if that was possible. And that’s when it happened again.
He grabbed you and slammed you up against the wall, pinning you there and kissing you roughly. You squeaked, admittedly surprised at his neediness and the way he gripped your waist, pressing you impossibly further back into the sheetrock. It wasn’t at all like you thought and yeah, you thought about it from time to time. There is a thin line between love and hate after all. It was messy, uncoordinated and slightly competitive as you both fought for control. Of course, he was winning since you were losing focus with your spine pressing into the wall and when he bit your lip you sucked in a shuddery breath.
"...Wait..." you breathed against his lips, keeping your eyes closed when he leaned back. Blinking them open after a moment and meeting his soft, worried gaze. "Too aggressive," you said, feeling your heart beating twice as fast as it was supposed to.
It hadn’t been unpleasant, there was definitely a spark that each of you felt. But you didn’t let your guard down often and you knew how you wanted this to feel, in this moment. You wanted that soft side of Dean that you’d only seen once in the cabin that night during your truce and you wanted him to let his guard down too. You wanted to be vulnerable together and the look in his emerald eyes seemed to get that.
Dean cupped your face gently, brushing his lips against your flushed skin softly and pressing a shy kiss to your cheek. He pecked another to the tip of your rosy nose and then your other cheek. You relaxed into him, enjoying the build up as he continued to press slow, wet kisses to every inch of your face and down your neck.
With this new pace everything felt ignited. That spark burned like electric butterflies in your chest and you wrapped your arms around the back of his neck, pulling him down to you or you up to him, you weren’t sure. It was something you never really felt before. Your mind clouded by the warmth building in your stomach.
The pad of his thumb brushed back and forth over your cheek bone and he pulled away, just enough to feel his hot breath fan against your kiss swollen lips as his eyes met yours. That was it, you saw it swimming in the greens of his eyes, his guard was down. Almost as if he had completely let go of that pent up anger and frustration that had been building between you two since you'd met. You gazed up at him with a soft smile, Dean checking your expression for consent before he sucked in a breath and chastely kissed you on the lips again. Tenderly this time, moving his lips over yours at a snail’s pace. Nice and slow.
“Better?”
"S'more like it," you sighed, tightening your arms around his shoulders and pulling him back down to you.
Feeling his scruff scratch against your cheek as you nuzzled your face into his neck and sucked a mark to the skin. Dean groaned softly in your ear, the sound of his voice making you weak in the knees. That's when you noticed the red mark your lipstick left on his skin and pulled away, dropping your arms to your sides. Doubt flooded your mind as he met your gaze once more.
"Are you kissing me just because I look like Auburn?"
"Why would you say that?"
"I don't exactly look like myself right now and you usually hate me. This doesn't make any sense to me." You rambled, biting your bottom lip and tasting the smeared lipstick.
"I'm not."
"What?"
Dean grabbed your hands and placed them on his shoulders again. You held on tight when he bent his knees and his large hands met the back of your thighs, lifting you up with ease. You wrapped your legs around his waist, feeling his hips bump into yours with every step as he walked you into the ensuite and set you down on the marble countertop next to the sink.
He stayed between your legs with one hand on your thigh above your knee as if to keep you in place and one searching the drawers next to you. Easily finding makeup removal pads and a cleanser on his second try. He added the solution to the pad and gently wiped your lips until the hue was mostly your own; brushing his own mouth off on the back of his hand since a bit of lipstick had rubbed off on him as well in the heat of the moment.
"Close your eyes." He said, preparing a fresh pad and you complied. You kept your hands in your lap, holding the hem of your dress that kept riding up.
You felt his warm breath on your face, drying the solution when he lightly dragged the pad over each eye. You shivered, not because you were cold, but because it all felt undeniably sensual. You sucked on your bottom lip, enjoying the feel of goosebumps forming on your skin. Creeping up the base of your neck, running down your spine and spreading throughout your extremities.
Every sense felt heightened with your eyes closed. His hand was back on your thigh, higher than before but not uncomfortably so and you don't know why, but you slid your hand over his. As if you didn't want him to pull away. Heat radiated from his body, seeping into your skin at the close proximity and you pouted your lip when he seemingly finished wiping off your makeup.
"There, all you." Dean smiled when he was satisfied he'd gotten the most of it.
You opened your eyes and he motioned to the mirror behind you. You turned in your seat to see your reflection looking like yourself again and smiled back at him. Dean leaned in to kiss the crown of your head and you turned back around to face him, sucking on your lip nervously. He cupped your cheeks in his hands and chuckled softly, pulling your bottom lip free with his thumb so he could capture it between his with a kiss.
"All I see is you, Y/N." He said, gazing into your eyes and letting out a heavy breath that you felt in your hair. "I lost somebody close to me, my client before you, and... I don't know... Maybe, I wasn't ready to get back in the field. But I did and I liked you. Your sarcasm knows no bounds and you didn't take any of my shit. I've never met anyone like you and I quickly started having these feelings that I didn't understand because I hadn't felt them in so long. Maybe ever, not really this strong... I'm not the type that opens up like this and I'm not even sure I'm doing it right."
"You're doing fine," you nodded, reaching up to hold onto his wrists, the pad of his thumb brushing over your jaw line.
"I got caught up in playing that part, the jerk secretly crushing on the pretty girl, when I really just wanted to be your knight, your protector. Call it me metaphorically pulling your pigtails in the schoolyard, call it whatever you want. Fuck," he breathed, pulling a hand away to palm his face. "I don't know if any of this is making any sense."
"It is, keep going." You pushed, pecking a kiss to his wrist.
He smiled and gave you a sheepish nod, "I didn't realize any of this in the moment, it wasn't until the thing with Sam-"
"There is no thing with Sam." You assured, shaking your head.
Dean seemed to finally accept your answer and let his free hand drop to your thigh again. Warmth flooded your centre and your knees tightened around his hips.
"I know you probably don't, but I'll kick myself when this is all over if I don't ask- Is there any chance you feel the same way?" Dean asked, seemingly holding his breath.
You smirked, letting him sweat a little for old time's sake, "...There's a chance."
"How big of a chance?" He grinned and tilted his head, "Just so I know what I'm working with and how much damage control I have to do."
"Enough of one."
"'Enough'... Like this much?" He repeated, holding up his thumb and index finger with a small space in between.
"More like this," you spread his fingers further apart with your own, letting him know that he had more of a chance with you than he thought.
You weren't doing it just for him. You couldn't deny the want your body felt for him and you thought you owed it to yourself to give Dean a shot, get to know the man behind that gruff bodyguard façade. So far, from what you saw of him opening up, you liked that gooey centre beneath the hard exterior.
“So I can kiss you again?”
“You can kiss me as much as you like.” You beamed up at him and he closed the space between you. You felt his hand push up the hem of your dress and toy with the bottom of your shorts, “De...” You breathed, he reluctantly pulled his attention away from your lips and locked eyes with you. “I’m still on my period. S’not exactly a kink of mine, if you know what I mean.”
Dean chuckled, lowering his head into the crook of your neck and pressing a warm kiss to your shoulder. Then he raised his gaze and rested his forehead against yours, pushing your hair back when it got in the way. The look on his face was a mix of levity and affection; you weren’t sure anyone had ever looked at you like that and it was something that you could easily get used to. Something you never knew you wanted, likely for a very long time.
“Me either, sweetheart. This dress just does things to me you’ll never understand.” He blushed, shifting between your legs and pulling off his grey henley, leaving him in a simple black t-shirt.
He tossed the soft material over your head and tugged it into place, helping you with the sleeves. In the end the shirt was nearly the same length as your dress, but you were grateful for the added warmth, even if Dean had done a pretty good job warming you up as it was.
“You okay with the kissing though?” He asked, pecking your lips chastely as an example and you chased the kiss, humming and nodding. "Good,” he mumbled against your lips.
The both of you, losing track of time, wrapped up in the feel of the moment rather than the danger of what was going on around you. You were blinded by the lust if not more than that.
“Is it just me or is there something wrong with this picture?” You heard a voice say from the doorway, both you and Dean turning to see Dick leaning against the frame. “Actually, there's more than one thing wrong, I see. You are not my sweet Auburn.”

Don’t Say A Word (Part 17)
Tumblr media
Summary: Dean wakes up in the hospital to find the reader holding his hand.
Masterlist
Pairing: Bodyguard!Dean x reader
Square: Holding hands @spnfluffbingo
Word Count: 2,025
Warnings: language, a little angst, injured!Dean, hospital visit, mentions of stabbing, cuddling, kissing, implied smut, fluff
A/N: These two were a lot of fun to write and they've certainly come a long way from the bickering in the first part. I'm gonna miss them. Written for @spnfluffbingo.
_____
Dean was basically out for the count for the first day and a half after his surgery and blood transfusion. He woke up a couple of times, but you didn’t think he would remember any of it.
It came to the point that Sam had to force you to go home and take a shower, get a change of clothes, sleep and eat before he allowed you to see Dean again. Which was only possible since you had helped bring down Dick Roman’s empire of crime and kidnapping. The FBI had found more than enough evidence at his house and the warehouse to put everyone involved away for a very long time, including Ketch.
The last time you traded shifts with Sam was a few hours ago and he said that Dean was lucid and was asking for you. He’d been moved out of the ICU a while ago now and doctors were optimistic that he could go home soon if he was feeling up to it. So needless to say, you were pretty excited when you bounced into the recovery room, but he was resting again and Sam held a finger up to his lips when he saw you. You tiptoed over to Sam who gave you a tight hug before giving you his warm chair and heading out to get some food and rest himself.
You were both eager and nervous for Dean to wake up, you didn’t know what to expect. Most of all, you wanted to see those green eyes full of light again. You wanted to kiss him, badly; you’d opened the floodgates and that’s all you could think of now. You grabbed Dean’s hand and slid your fingers between his, like you usually did when you sat with him. You really just wanted to be close to him, make sure that he was still there with you and this way he could feel you here with him even when he was asleep.
“Hey,” Dean breathed when he woke up a half hour later, his eyes opening just enough for you to see the green hue of them shining in the light. You realized you were still holding his hand and it was hot so your palm was slick with sweat. You moved to pull away, but he stopped you, "Don't let go." His voice was gravelly as he squeezed your fingers and you slid your hand back in his. "You know, sweetheart, there was so much I never got to tell you when I thought… you know… and now I finally get to say everything I wanted to, to you. But all I got is that I kinda like you, a lot... like a lot, a lot."
"I guess, you're not so bad either." You teased, playing with his large fingers and feeling his callouses against your softer skin.
“Uh-huh, that’s why you’ve been crying so much?”
“Have not,” you wiped your cheeks with your free hand, clearing away the couple of joyous tears that had escaped.
You were painfully aware of how red rimmed your eyes were, even nearly a full day later. It had been a rough twelve hours with Dean in the ICU and you weren’t about to apologize for caring, though you doubted that was what he was getting at. Probably just gloating about the fact that he got the girl. You were just happy that the swelling in your eyelids had gone down, you didn’t want Dean seeing you that upset. Although, Sam probably told him already which would make sense as to why he was teasing you about it now.
"Right... Never thought you’d get this attached, did you?" He smirked, pulling your hand up to his lips to softly kiss the back of it. “It might surprise you, but the average day at my job used to be kinda boring actually. Nothing really ever happened other than following around stuck up actresses all day. The odd crazed fan maybe… Then you came into my life and you are a magnet for trouble, sweetheart, but I’d kinda like to keep you. If that’s alright with you."
“Are you sure you can handle that level of excitement in your everyday life?” You teased and winked as seductively as you could.
“Mhm,” Dean hummed, shuffling over to make room for you on the hospital bed. He patted the open spot beside him.
“It’s my turn to keep you safe this time though."
“Is that so?” He grinned, gently tugging you towards the bed by your hand.
“You can count on it.”
You had opted for comfort over your usual jeans, since you knew you'd be sitting at the hospital for at least a few hours, but your maxi skirt wasn't entirely practical and you had to hike it up to your knees so you could crawl into the space next to him. You pecked his cheek and threw your arm protectively over him, careful not to touch the bandage on his stomach. Dean pulled you to mold into his uninjured side and you laid your head on his chest, hearing the staccato thump of his heart.
Instantly, the weight of the world lifted off your shoulders and you reached for his hand again. You held it close to your chest and felt the creases of his palm with your fingertips.
"How are you feeling?" You asked, tracing patterns over his skin.
"Like I got gutted by a pocket knife." He quipped, trying to make light of everything but you weren't finding the humour in it.
You felt incredibly guilty, remembering back to when Dick cut your hands free with his pocket knife. That must've been what he was fishing out of his pocket when Dean pinned him in the ensuite and reached for his gun. When you distracted him.
“I'm sorry." You nuzzled into him and kissed his scruffy neck. He hadn't shaved in a few days so the short hairs had gotten longer and Dean hummed at the feel of your lips. "You almost died for me,” you breathed, his stubble prickling your lips but you didn't care. You liked it even.
“I would have.”
“Don’t say that.”
“Would you rather I lie to you, Y/N?”
"No, I'd rather you give a shit about yourself." You remarked sadly and squeezed his hand. "Because I do."
You were starting to see this whole other side of Dean, a softer, more open side and you were quickly realizing he had some self-confidence issues. The guy who'd barely flinched at your insults over the past week was actually susceptible to them. Even if he was incredibly good at hiding it when he wanted to.
"Oh, you do, do you?" He smirked, cocking his brow. "I'll work on it," he conceded when you just stared up at him.
"You better because I'm gonna be watching you." You squinted at him, trying to look intimidating, but the grin on your lips gave you away.
"I mean it, sweetheart, but I'd say things turned out for the best." He smiled back at you and kissed your forehead.
You sighed contently, a fuzzy teddy bear on the table next to Dean catching your eye, "That's cute. Who gave you the teddy?"
"Ugh, that's Sam's idea of a joke. He's such a nerd, said it reminded him of me and he pinned a bandage on its stomach." Dean grumbled, grabbing the small bear for you to see.
The bear's face was noticeably grumpy and you had to admit it did resemble Dean. You half smirked and toyed with the bear's paw that read 'Get well soon!' in blue stitching.
"I think it's sweet of him," you commented naively, Dean squeezing his arm around you as he hummed.
You spent the rest of the day in bed with Dean. After forcing him to walk to the cafeteria to get some decent food and playing a card game with Sam when he stopped by to drop off some of Dean's clothes; a pair of dark sweats and a tee. Sam still looked beat, however, and you opted to stay with Dean, letting Sam get a full night's rest for once. He didn't argue when you said you'd take a double shift and you swore you saw a look exchange between the boys, but you couldn't be sure. You weren't in a rush to leave anyways and Dean seemed to like the idea of you spending the night, especially since it meant squeezing you into his bed.
The nurses didn't seem all that surprised when they came in to check on him later that night and you were curled up against his good side, sound asleep. Dean, on the other hand, was wide awake, having spent more than enough time recuperating in that hospital bed and he was ready to go home in the morning. For the time being though, he was content watching you sleep; eventually getting a couple more hours of shut eye himself in the wee hours of the early morning.
By mid-afternoon the next day, Dean was pacing the hospital room, awaiting his release forms. He had too much energy pent up and he wanted out, now. You tried to distract him with a piece of apple pie from the bakery down the block, but that only lasted so long.
"Alrighty, you ready to get out of here, Mr. Winchester?" The nurse smiled, walking in with his release forms.
"I thought you'd never ask," he said, quickly going over everything with her; including aftercare for his stitches and telling him to take it easy with heavy lifting and stuff like that.
You knew Dean wasn't really listening. His mind was elsewhere and he glanced back at you with those bright green eyes you were beginning to fall in love with.
"Is your girlfriend driving you home?" The nurse asked, side-eyeing you.
"Yeah, she is." Dean answered, linking his hand with yours.
You thought you saw a slight blush in his cheeks that probably matched your own and you shied away from his gaze. Never in a million years did you think this man would call you his girlfriend. Arch-nemesis, maybe, but not his girlfriend. And you actually liked the sound of it.
Dean grumbled all the way out of the hospital. Apparently it was their policy that patients be wheeled out in a wheelchair and he didn't take lightly to that. Especially since once you were at the entrance he had to wait there with the orderly until you brought the car around. And his jaw nearly hit the ground when you did.
"Who said you could drive my Baby?" Dean asked, when you hopped out to open his door. He really did call his car ‘Baby’, Sam warned you.
"Sam had her dropped off at my place since I don't have a car and I wanted to see you. It's quite the trek out here without one." You said, giving him a sweet, innocent smile and jiggling the keys in your hand.
"Gimme the keys, Y/N, I'm driving." He ordered, holding out his hand and staring at you.
"Nu-huh, the nurse said ‘no heavy lifting’."
"It's not the same thing, Y/N."
"Too bad, tough guy." You smirked. "We can stand here all day, or you can let me drive and we can celebrate you not being dead."
"How does one celebrate that?" He wiggled his eyebrows at you and you shrugged allusively.
"Get in and find out," you put on your best come-hither voice but you were sure your face was beat red by the heat you felt in your cheeks.
"Fine, but only because you're cute." Dean pointed, giving you a kiss on the lips and letting you help him into the passenger side of the Impala.
You shut the door and ran around to the driver’s side. He looked over at you with a smile gracing his lips as you pulled out onto the road. Little did he know, you weren't taking him home... not yet. It was your turn to kidnap him, but you were sure he'd enjoy the ride. You glanced over at him and winked.

You slammed the shot glass on the table as the whiskey burned your throat. Your face wrinkled in disgust.
“Oh, that is just… that’s awful,” you said with a shudder. “You guys like this stuff?”
Sam threw his head back with a laugh while Dean looked at you like you grew two heads.
“What?” You asked, defensively. “Don’t tell me whiskey tastes better than literally any fruity cocktail in existence.”
“Dean is still scarred from the time he drank purple nurples,” Sam smirked.
“What the hell is a purple nurple?”
“Don’t even ask,” Dean groaned, shaking his head. An idea sparked in your head before you could reply, so you curbed your curiosity, formulating a plan instead.
“I’ll be right back,” you announced, as you stood from the wooden chair.
An hour and three drinks later, you were buzzing with alcohol, your body filled with warmth.
“Woah, Sam, are you drunk?” You asked, perplexed. In all of your years with the brothers, you had never seen either of them drunk. Alcohol was like water to them.
“Psh, yeah,” he said, sassily.
“How is that possible? You’re a giant. And you’ve been drinking since you were twelve!”
“‘Cause Sammy only drinks beer, sweetheart. You get three shots of liquor in him, and he’s out for the night,” Dean laughed, but his slightly slurred words and shining green eyes indicated that he, too, was pretty far gone.
“At least I’m not short.” Sam bit back from where he was slouched in an armchair, giving his classic bitch face. "And bossy.” You laughed at his seriousness. He looked over at you and raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t know why you’re laughing so hard over there, Y/N/N. You’re the one who’s in love with him.” Your jaw dropped at Sam’s bluntness, your eyes quickly darting towards the older, henley-wearing hunter, who was luckily drunk and distracted.
“Shut up, Sam,” you laughed, nervously, hoping Dean was too drunk to hear the tremble in your voice.
“Please. Sound familiar? ‘I would rather stay in Purgatory for a week than spend one more night listening to Dean with another girl,’” Sam said, mocking you in a higher-pitched voice.
“You said you’d never bring that up!” Your face was heated, embarrassment steadily growing inside of you. “And I don’t sound like that!”
“I’m getting another drink,” Sam slurred, getting out of his chair.
You watched with amusement as he stumbled towards the alcohol on the table, carefully sniffing each one, before settling on a fruity cocktail you had finished making just minutes before. You smiled at your small triumph.
You looked over towards Dean again, your heart melting at the bright smile he flashed you.
“Hey,” you murmured once he was close enough. He pulled you into his arms, and you relaxed in his embrace. Drunk Dean was handsy and affectionate, always talking about how good you smelled. You were familiar with Drunk Dean, having met him a few times throughout your years with the brothers.
“If I had known you felt that way, I wouldn’t see all those girls,” he said, quietly. Your heart soared at his words— the words you’ve been wanting to hear for so long now— but you knew that it was wrong for you to ask this of Dean, and you shook your head.
“No I get it, it’s your coping mechanism. You like it,” you argued, albeit weakly.
“No, Y/N. I like you,” Dean insisted, before capturing your lips with his.

A/N: Uh-oh. Written for @spnfluffbingo.
_____
You worried, wondering why Sam hadn't stopped them from taking you. Though, you supposed if he had, his cover would've been blown and there'd be a whole other set of problems on your hands. You just hoped that he made it out of there and called for backup. Meanwhile, you took comfort in knowing that Dean still had a tracker on you.
It was dark when Dick finally put the car in park and ripped off your blindfold. He escorted you out of the car and towards a modern house, in the middle of nowhere, that could only be described as a physical endowment of wealth in architectural form; probably compensating for something, you were sure. There wasn't much for gardens but the grass was flawless, almost like the lawn had been carpeted.
He walked you up the path to the twin front doors, unlocking them and dragging you inside. The house almost looked bigger on the inside, if that was possible. Dick took you by the arm and led you up the floating staircase to the second floor.
"What exactly are you planning on doing with me?" You asked, struggling against his hold on you.
"Showing you how a woman of your beauty and talent should be treated... like a princess." He whispered the last part in your ear and you shuddered at his stale breath meeting the skin of your neck.
You just couldn't escape that term. You didn't even find it endearing, Dean certainly never used it as such. And you didn't feel any different about it now when Dick said it. Except for the fact that it creeped you out more.
"And what if I want to leave?" You questioned, Dick leading you down a long tile hallway.
"I'd advise against it."
"I have a boyfriend," you lied, seeming how he wasn't actually your boyfriend.
"Yes. I know. However, a better term for him would be leech." He wasn't entirely wrong.
"I love him."
"You'll learn to love me too." He stated without a doubt in his voice.
"Never gonna fucking happen." You seethed through your teeth.
"Then you'll be my trophy and I'll keep you on display. Just know that the choice is yours and that I can give you anything you want. If you choose correctly. Choose me." He explained, pulling you into one of the many rooms.
You were surprised to see that it was a bedroom, with what appeared to be a large ensuite and a walk-in closet, stocked full from what you could see. Probably all clothes in Auburn's size too, from what you were gathering from the situation you found yourself in.
"I take it, this isn't about the ransom for you."
"Did you ever think it was?" He laughed, snapping the zip ties around your wrists with a pocket knife. "I have more than enough money, I want someone to share my life with. That's where you come in. And maybe in the future we can talk about having a family of our own."
"Touch me and I'll kill you." You threatened, rubbing your sore wrists and stepping away from him.
"I like that fire," he chuckled and smiled. "This will be your bedroom, for now. I may be holding you against your will, but I won't force myself on you, if that's what you're thinking. You will come around on your own... eventually."
"And if I don't?"
"You will," he nodded.
"Wanna bet? Creep." You squinted up at him and crossed your arms over your chest as an attempt to cover yourself from his view.
"I am not a creep!" He hissed, grabbing your face and smushing your cheeks between his fingers. You fisted his shirt and scratched at his chest. "Now wipe that shit off your face and change into the outfit I left on your bed. Then come downstairs. We're having chicken for dinner."
With that, Dick left you alone in the bedroom, but not without noting that he'd come looking for you if you weren't downstairs in twenty minutes. Your breathing picked up as things started to sink in and you felt dizzy. You backed into the corner of the room between the bed and wall, ignoring the silky red dress laid out on the end of the bed. You sat on the ground and curled up into a ball, hugging your knees to your chest. Ignoring the world around you, not noticing the tears streaming from your eyes; until a hand reached out and touched your cheek.
"Sh-h-h..." Dean hushed, placing his palm over your mouth when you started and whipped your head up. "You're alright, Y/N."
"No. No, I'm not alright." You whisper shouted back, shoving away his hand. You noted the open window behind him which he probably climbed up to and crawled through. "He wants to keep me here like a fucking trophy on a shelf. Either that or breed me. Would you be alright if someone gave you that ultimatum?"
"I won't let that happen." Dean promised, brushing your hair back from your face and wiping the smudged mascara from under your left eye with his thumb. "This wasn't such a bright idea after all. Huh, sweetheart?"
"I'm sorry," you apologized sarcastically and stood up, Dean following your queue and towering over you. But you glared up at him with fire in your eyes as your fear shifted to anger. "I was trying to take charge of my life in a situation where I had zero control, until Sam came along. I was trying to do something to help, not just myself, but him and whoever else falls onto this guy's radar in the future."
"Yeah, well, while you've been trying to save the world, I've been trying to save you. Shit, I still am even after I said I was done. What does that tell you?"
"I don't know, you're a sucker for pain and rejection?" You shrugged, throwing up your hands to stress your annoyance.
"There's the Y/N I know. I'll give you one thing, you bounce back fast. Feisty and stubborn as hell. Don't ever change." Dean smirked and you couldn't tell if he was being genuine, it seemed out of character if he was.
"That's because I remembered the main reason I agreed to this was to get away from you. That, and Sam doesn't treat me like a baby, he makes me feel strong." You argued, brushing your hair back over your shoulders and puffing out an irritated breath. "I may be stuck in a room of an obsessive multi-millionaire's mansion, but at least it beats sitting in a tiny cabin with four walls and you, waiting for someone else to do the heavy lifting."
"I bet you feel really strong right about now. So, what's the plan, princess?" Dean asked dryly, furrowing his brow. A look you matched. "That's why you kissed him, isn't it? To get some sort of power trip."
"Screw you."
"You're not my type," he quipped and grinned.
"You are so fucking frustrating, do you know that?"
"Right back at ya, sweetheart."
"Why do you always do this?" You growled, trying to keep your voice down and feeling like you wanted to start ripping your hair out. "I do something you don't like and you throw up your shields and deflect it back at me."
"I only treat you like a child, because you act like one." Dean explained with a pointed tone.
"See, right there. Deflecting again." You accused, pointing your finger at him. "Can't you be open with me for once. Tell me why that kiss really bothered you. Or, why you're here when you don't want to be, you could've just told Sam where I was."
"I guess it's a good thing lover boy's right outside then, getting into position with a shit ton of backup. He tasked me with keeping you out of harm's way. So you guys can continue your little make-out session when he gives us the all clear. Until then, you're stuck with me." Dean ordered, crossing his arms over his chest like you were about to fight him on it.
"Oh my god. When are you going to get over it? I kissed him, big fucking deal. I thought for a minute I might like Sam but I felt nothing, no spark, no connection, no fucking point in continuing this conversation." You said, having had enough of his jealousy when he didn't even fucking like you to begin with. "There is no, me and Sam."
"Good for you," he glared.
"Such an asshole," you breathed angrily to yourself, clenching your fists at your sides.
The both of you nearly at the ends of your ropes now. Dean was staring at you like he was either going to kill you or kiss you and you scrunched up your face, unsure of how to read him for the first time.
You huffed and looked deep into his eyes, "Tell me something true for once. You owe me that much..." You got frustrated after a moment of his silent staring, "You're just so fucking closed off-"
Dean kissed you. He was fucking kissing you. And you wanted him to.
It was different than with Sam. You couldn't think straight for one, and you were actively pulling Dean closer by the collar of his shirt. His lips electrified yours and he cradled your cheek with his palm, your heart fluttering every time he brushed your cheek with his thumb. It all happened so fast, a shiver coursing through your veins when you broke the kiss to catch your breath.
"This isn't really the place or time for this, De-"
Cocky bastard kissed you again, chastely pecking your lips before you pushed him away.
"Shouldn't we-” He cut you off. His nose smushed into your cheek when he attacked your lips once more. You pushed him away again, only a fraction of an inch, "-run?" You panted.
"Sam said, to keep you here-" He paused to capture your mouth with his, pulling away and wetting his lips just as you were starting to melt into him. You were pretty sure his hand on your waist was the only reason you were still standing at the moment. "-keep you safe."
Dean pressed his forehead to yours, staring deep into your Y/E/C eyes. He wasn't judging you this time, you could tell, he was searching your eyes for answers just like you were with his. You didn't know what the hell just happened or why you wanted it to happen again and again, until you were laying on his chest naked and satiated. It was primal almost how he made you forget about everything else and you had to admit, it felt amazing.
