Osiris is such a great example and illustration of the fact that ‘good’ is not the same as ‘nice’. (Is this inspired by seeing people in various places complain that he’s kind of a dick and that Savathun was nicer? Maybe just a bit. Mostly. But not all.) Osiris is abrasive, rude, arrogant and egotistical. He doesn’t always think about other people and their feelings. He tends to think that he knows better than everyone else. He picks arguments. He’s sharp and prickly, aggressive in putting forward his views (and oh boy I have a whole load of thoughts about how to me he reads as someone who was classed as ‘gifted’ as a kid and then 30 years later realises they’re autistic but that is a whole other essay). He isn’t polite. He is not by general standards, a nice person. And he is deeply, profoundly good.
He is absolutely dedicated to defending humanity and the Last City, even to his own detriment. You see it in the earliest lore we have for him where he is so angry at Warlords using their gift of the Light to inflict suffering. He puts himself in terrible danger and eventually loses Sagira and his freedom trying to find answers and remove a threat. He gets exiled because he refuses to give up on the bigger picture that he sees and working towards mitigating threats and spends years almost alone working to combat threats even when no-one will ever really know. He’s even one of the people earliest in the timeline we see pointing out that the Eliksni are not evil, not a monolith; they’re a hurt and broken people trying to survive, and also the Speaker should not be pushing for Saint to go crusading against them.
And now this season, where he’s so vulnerable, feeling like he is broken, and trying to find his place in the world again. And he is still devoting himself to protecting humanity. Going up against Xivu Arath who flattened him last time he went up against her (and I just want to say, Oded Fehr is doing a great job mixing in that fear with the anger when you encounter the cryptoliths!). And the new dialogue from Spire of the Watcher, where you discover that he and Saint had put aside their dreams of a life together because they put the City and its safety first... ouch. He doesn’t wrap ill-intentions in pretty words and politeness. He doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what he is. He doesn’t play politics (even when it was kind of his job!). He is not nice. But he is so very very good.

A friend of mine asked me yesterday “what is your favourite fictional world to explore” I answered pretty easily that for me, it was the Destiny games. He sorta laughed at me, said that there wasn’t much to the worlds of those games, they didn’t feel alive and directly compared it to Fallout, saying Fallout is a much better game when it comes to that. (Bethesda Fallout…) He’s right to some extent. However that’s not why I love the environments, nine years ago I played Destiny 1 for the first time and a younger me was captured in the stories of landmarks and buildings falling apart, and why they were like that. It inspired a wonder in me only Breath of the Wild and The Outer Wilds have ever truly matched. I very quickly just took some screenshots around Destiny 2, not the game I fell in love with nine years ago, but a game that still captures my wonder. (P.S I really do not like Bethesda Fallout, you see how this has galvanized me)

The Guardian walking into the Spire of the Watcher dungeon: Seraph Complex? I find it quite simple

I SOLO'ED SPIRE OF THE WATCHER IN DESTINY 2!!!! ✨🙌😤✨
Here's my adventurer's notes, maybe they'll be useful to someone out there!
(Also, this will all be assuming you know how to already do Spire of the Watcher, but I can make a guide for the basics of that too if you need! I can even take you thru myself sometime if you're curious!)
Intro Encounter: Entering the Bunker (Easy) - I did this all on my Warlock. For this first encounter I used Nova Warp for quick and easy/panic add clear, those new Briarbinds that let you pick up your child of the old gods, Leviathan's Breath for taking out the 4 cyclops that spawn on top of the cliffs, and Veles-X, which is Seraph Season's ritual weapon that has Repulsor Brace and Golden Tricorn - I ran with the Devour aspect for survivability, and of course Child of the Old Gods - For fragments I would really recommend the one that gives devour from picking up orbs/breaches, the one where finishers make you invisible, and the one where killing a volatile target drops a void breach - Really this encounter wasn't too much of an issue for me, as I could just use a finisher to go invisible at any point I was about to die, and my child of the old gods was sucking the life out of everything to the point that I hardly had to add clear. If you're struggling here, consider running helm mods that drop orbs on weapon multikills, as those will act like health packs that instantly give you devour - VERY VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: I learned that supplicants ONLY SPAWN ONCE YOU'VE COMPLETED AN ARC NODE!!! If you get all 4 of them to the last node, then complete them all at the same time, the encounter finishes before they can fully spawn in and become a problem
Second Encounter: Ascending the Spire (Easy) - Solar Warlock this time. If you get Heat Rises, it becomes literally SOOOO EASY to hit all the different nodes that you have to parkour to shoot normally - Ignitions will wipe out ALL the adds very easily - DON'T KILL THE HYDRAS!!! They are annoying yes, but killing them spawns supplicants, it's not worth it. (If you're in the air, their bad aim means they hardly ever hit you! Most of the damage you take from them is when they land shots on the ground close to you, so being off the ground negates that!) Third Encounter: Akelous, The Siren's Current (Difficult) - I'm sure there's better ways of doing this, but I did this by running Chaos Reach with the Geomag boots for DPS, the Manticore of all things for survivability, and my favorite ever crafted Stasis sniper, Thoughtless, with Overflow and Focused Fury - My overflow sniper has 16 rounds in the mag, which is enough to take out every single eye at the start of DPS and ALSO miss a couple of times, I highly recommend it - ALWAYS TAKE THE TIME TO TAKE OUT ALL HARPIES IN THE ARENA AS WELL AS EVERY OTHER ENEMY ON THE SIDE YOU'RE ABOUT TO START DPS ON - It doesn't matter too much what heavy you use because Chaos Reach + Geomag lasts so so long that you have hardly any time to do any damage beyond that. I actually ran an add clear grenade launcher instead just to keep me safe - THIS IS AN ENDURANCE RUN. Stay safe by sectioning off different sides of enemies so only a few can shoot at you at a time. The minotaurs have really long ranged lobbing which is always avoidable but will kill you if you don't. Run helm mods that drop orbs with weapon multikills and the 2 of the boots mods that gives you health on orb pickups and you should have no problem staying alive even when you've got nothing for survival other than that. Fourth Encounter: "IT'S GOING PROMPT CRITICAL!!!" (Easy) - I swapped back to my solar build I used for ascending the spire and it was totally easy. If you need to, take the time to find all the 5 nodes before you start shooting them, and it becomes a lot easier. Remember that there's 1 node in the middle in that 3rd room, then two on the left and two on the right!
Fifth Encounter: Persys, Primordial Ruin (Hard) - You know it, you hate it, we've got supplicants all over the darn place, purposefully hiding behind things so you can't shoot them, not to mention the giant angry chicken always on your tail! BUT, I have a secret weapon that nobody would recommend that I think will do just the thing - USE TELESTO!!! Supplicants, if killed by fusion rifles, DON'T EXPLODE, and just disintegrate! But Telesto gets even better when you realize you can shoot the GROUND too! The supplicants like hiding in the bottom middle for when you go to open the door, but shooting a spread at the mouth of the opening they hide at means they all disintegrate right as they chase you! - I used those Briarbinds again, which helped HUGE amounts for the 2 hydras you have to kill, along with the continuous spawning adds inside the core when you're trying to do the puzzle. I would just say "Go cook!" and it would give me devour every few seconds as it sits in the middle of the spawn area and sucks up anything that spawns before it can really be a problem - I recommend using an anti-barrier primary weapon because of the hydras. It's so annoying having to sit and wait for the shield to spin back around otherwise, nobody's got time for that! - FOR DAMAGE: I used a lasting impression + cluster bombs Osprey, and the good old fashioned slowva bomb. To get Optimal DPS: First, you send out your child of the old gods, then you shoot it with the lasting impression rocket, reload, shoot it again, then nova bomb. If you do it right, all of those should hit before the boss leaves the weakness range of your void buddy - 1 shot of Telesto is enough to get the minotaurs down to finishable health, meaning you can go invis as you pick up the buff and run to start shooting nodes! And that's pretty much it!!! I never use guides for any of this stuff so I could be missing out on some things, but this is just what a little low leveled kobold was able to piece together! I hope it helps! 🙌😋

Guardian, walks into the Exo suit lab on the Helm, pulling their shoes off and dumping Mars Sand in the area: Clovis, I have a question.
Clovis, as prideful as a peacock: What is it?
Guardian, removes their helmet: How in the TRAVELER'S light, did you fuck up cable management so badly?! You're supposedly a genius, why was there cable strung about nonsensical?
Clovis, chuckling: That was left to those who were less gifted. Maybe I should have hired you.
Guardian, pointing in his new exo Face: I will get Mara Sov in here if you wish to pull that tone with me.
Clovis: *scoffs*
Guardian, grabbing both their helmet and their boots: You can thank me later about saving your light scorned tower!
Clovis, confused: Which one?
Guardian, putting back on the helmet and staring them down at the top of the stairs: all of them

(Possibly Unhinged) Theory Rambling
2 thoughts I was poking recently, one leading on from the first. The first regards the Deterministic Chaos exotic lore. The 2nd regards Soteria from Spire of the Watcher and the Dreaming City.
Thought 1
Deterministic Chaos and the identity of the bracketed speaker.
I wondered at first if it was Praedyth, but I am pretty sure now that it is one of the Chioma copies.
Firstly, Rohan feels like he recognises the voice, which would tally since Chioma was one of the founders of Neomuna. It’s likely that they have many recordings of Chioma and Maya Sundaresh that Rohan will have heard.
Second, some of the ways the bracketed speaker talks tally closely with some of the Chioma copy sections in the Aspect lore book.
Bracketed Speaker:
wondering what might have been if we had stayed in our familiar prism-prison or kept tightrope-walking across the quantum wilds.
Chioma Copy in Aspect
227.18's Chioma turns wry. "What's a little more tightrope walking between friends?"
and again, in Aspect
You've got to translate everything into metaphor to understand it, here, and this is like tightrope walking on a greased line. You and Maya lean into each other.
Also, some of what the bracketed voice describes sounds very much like some of what the Chioma copy in Aspect experiences.
Bracketed Speaker:
is disincorporated immortality really so bad compared to the others' ends?
Would you have preferred an attack by vitreous helicoprion or stumbling over the edge of unreality?
Chioma Copy in Aspect
Duane-McNiadh walks too quickly, not testing the ground. He's gone before you can blink—fallen through an unseen edge of the simulation.
The entire Volitive section of the Aspect lore covers the many ways various copies die, with Chioma as the focus character.
Also, with Neomuna and the Veil being a thing, I would like to add that I am side-eying the fuck out of this section of the Aspect lore:
Somewhere, a veil is always lifting.
Somewhere, Kabr is always dooming himself.
Somewhere, a door is always opening.
Somewhere, they are always stepping through.
Anyway, this led to
Thought 2
This is a bit more specualtion, for sure.
With Spire of the Watcher, we learned about an AI called Soteria, the Augur Mind. Soteria is an AI partly created from the Vex, and a fragment of Soteria now exists in Neomuna, dormant in the Vex network, but vital to the Cloud Ark. Augur is a term meaning seer/prophet/oracle, or someone who interprets signs to predict the future, and Soteria was used to interpret data to predict locations of possible planets for human colonisation. She also predicted the Black Fleet.
A friend who has studied classics, pointed out that Soteria is an epithet for Persephone, meaning deliverance/safety/salvation.
Cool, so we now have another mythological figure who descended to the underworld and returned (Ishtar/Inanna/Osiris) related to Neomuna.
In Season of the Splicer we saw various Vex Minds in the Expunge missions as we worked to stop Quria Blade Transform. Labyrinth, Styx, Tartarus, Delphi. We fight the Oppressive Minds (including Dikast - Dikastes was a legal position in Ancient Greece who could pass judgement, and Dimio - probably referencing Deimos, god of fear/terror).
Labyrinth - Theseus and the Minotaur. The Labyrinth was built following advice from the Oracle at Delphi.
Styx - One of the rivers of the Underworld, often said the mark the border between the world of the living, and the world of the dead
Tartarus - An area of the Underworld where the dead were punished e.g. Sisyphus
Delphi - A sacred precinct in Ancient Greece, home to the famous Oracle of Delphi.
Oh hey, another descent to the underworld, and another prophet.
So, we have Vex minds, a descent to the underworld, and prophets. We have Quiria, Blade Transform, who was/is responsible for the curse on the Dreaming City.
The centre of the curse is the Shattered Throne dungeon, where Dul Incaru waits. The Shattered Throne was originally Mara Sov’s Throne World, otherwise known as Elusinia.
So, how does Soteria tie into this?
Well, there was this thing in Ancient Greece called the Elusinian Mysteries. These were the initiation rites for the cult of Demeter... and Persephone.
Does this mean anything? Maybe not. I may be badly reaching. But uh... an AI that is a product of both humanity and the Vex (the human world and the Underworld)... may possibly be something to do with breaking the curse.
