A friend of mine asked me yesterday “what is your favourite fictional world to explore” I answered pretty easily that for me, it was the Destiny games. He sorta laughed at me, said that there wasn’t much to the worlds of those games, they didn’t feel alive and directly compared it to Fallout, saying Fallout is a much better game when it comes to that. (Bethesda Fallout…) He’s right to some extent. However that’s not why I love the environments, nine years ago I played Destiny 1 for the first time and a younger me was captured in the stories of landmarks and buildings falling apart, and why they were like that. It inspired a wonder in me only Breath of the Wild and The Outer Wilds have ever truly matched. I very quickly just took some screenshots around Destiny 2, not the game I fell in love with nine years ago, but a game that still captures my wonder. (P.S I really do not like Bethesda Fallout, you see how this has galvanized me)
Hey so I'm doing a dumb thing in Grasp of Avarice in Destiny 2, and realized that maybe I should stream! So if you wanna see someone dumbly do Grasp of Avarice solo, or try to, come on over! https://www.twitch.tv/thorusofer
Freija turned to look at Rise-26 where she stood on the ledge across the gorge.
"What? Jump across. You don't need the thing."
"I AM A HUNTER."
Freija was silent for a moment, and then said, "You can do it. Just try. I'll get you up."
Rise didn't move, staring irritably at her friend on the platform across the very deep chasm and mists below.
"Try!" she insisted.
"Fucking. Titans. I swear. If I have to get my STOMP-33Z out, I'm gonna leave you on your own and only come out to stealth rez."
"I wouldn't mind."
"You would after a while."
"Jump!"
Rise measured it, went to get a running start, then made her leap.
Freija cheered wildly as soon as she saw the certainty, but Rise was only angry when her boots hit the ground. "To hell with you!" she cried. "Just stay with me and use the damn booster thing!"
"Go get your own scorch cannon, you'll be fine."
~
I'm the one that always has to run the scorch cannon. Dune marchers, hammer, sunspots make it shitloads easier for me than for Rise.
Revised List of Solo Flawless Dungeon Experiences (Easiest to Hardest):
Pit of Heresy: Fairly fundamental and as long as you know the encounters well, it’s fairly easy comparatively.
Grasp of Avarice: Takes some work to get the rhythm down, but considering you get all of your abilities back, including your super, just for doing the mechanics? Straightforward as can be.
Shattered Throne: My personal favorite. Hard enough to force you to work for it, but not enough that it’s impossible. The scenery also makes it a joy to run through.
Prophecy: Difficult. Learning the rhythm is the tough part, but loadouts are a little more lenient as long as you cover your bases and excercise patience. Not for first timers, but you can definitely work up to it.
Duality: Pain incarnate. It’s as if you were dragged into the jaws of hell itself. You’re fighting the dungeon as much as you’re fighting the enemies and one mistake can cost you. An exercise in pure damage mitigation and knowledge of the game and what can kill you. The Cabal have more OHK moves than any other faction of enemy and it is on full display. Know exactly what you’re getting into when you attempt this.
wait so what else is up with awoken amethyst besides the reflection thing
oh boy oh boy oh boy do I have an essay for you! it's mostly irl nerd stuff, but!!
Awoken amethyst is nothing like amethyst from Earth! Actual amethyst is almost always purple [but can have blue as a secondary hue], usually has color zoning and belongs to the hexagonal crystal family. Awoken amethyst is blue, has no color zoning, and has a pentagonal structure [which doesn't occur naturally]. Also, a lot of it hums and glows!
It is so unlike actual amethyst that it has been compared to a variety of other gems/minerals, including azurite, fluorite, tanzanite, sodalite/lapis lazuli and agate. So far, the Oracle Engine seems to be the main exception:
"But some of it looks purple. Why is that?" Good question! From what I've seen, it comes down to lighting and backlighting. In the Confluence and Blind Well, Awoken amethyst looks purple in the shadows but is blue when you step back. In The Corrupted strike and seasonal areas like the Coil, it's the opposite - it's purple from afar yet blue up close. The Last Wish raid shows it in purple backlighting at first, before giving way to its true color (blue).
Something something "nothing is as it seems," I suppose.
There is one more exception besides the Oracle Engine, however. And I think it's an interesting one. At the very back of Harbinger's Seclude, by the statue of the first Awoken queen Alis Li, the arches are clearly purple and resemble polished irl amethyst. What does it mean? I have no idea, I'm not a lore expert. But I wouldn't be surprised if it did mean something.
Other than that, I only know the standard lore stuff about Awoken amethyst. It's a symbol of Awoken royalty, it can be created thru Awoken favor, Techeuns use it to enhance their powers, it was once given as diplomatic gifts to Eliksni, so on and so forth. And yes, Mara did wish for the Dreaming City to be built out of amethyst.
Being a rockhound and aspiring mineralogist [and Awoken lore enthusiast], I'm always on the lookout for amethyst-related lore, but this is all I've got at the moment lol. Also I don't know if I actually answered your question but thank you for the Ask!!
Here is a screenshot of my Hunter as a token of my appreciation:
