Oooooo...I like this!
JeromyTV does something like this on SpellShots but since my character has amnesia we learn a little bit more about Key's past whenever they're near death (which ends up being quite a bit)!

decided to roll w avalons origins (his main class in wonderlands being spellshot) and make him a spellcaster instead of my usual 'magic is inherent' approach
also decided he probably tries random spells from ominous ancient books. what could possibly go wrong

would they play bunkers n badasses together and if so how would they play
OH I KNOW THIS ONE.
If going by Wonderlands rules Hammerlock would be a shroomwraith (spore warden/blightcaller combo) and Wainwright would be a trapscallion (spellshot/stabbomancer combo).
If going by official Bunkers and Badasses ttrpg rules Hammerlock would be your standard-ish hunter (duh) and Wainwright would be either a mechromancer or world's most mentally adjusted gunzerker.
In both cases Hammerlock's character would be mostly-ish a self insert but Wainwright would go full fantastical roleplay and really get into what he's doing. Neither of them are really into stat minmaxing but Hammerlock is more mechanically skilled at the numbers and combat parts of the game (he'd definitely use his character's abilities in creative ways to win).
Unfortunately on their first few tries to play the game they were temporarily banned from the table because the moment their characters met one of them would ask to make a Seduction Talk check on the other. As a result all BMs that know them have a rule that specifically bans them from doing that, but more lenient ones like Angel would still let them do it on like, session 7 or 8.
Hammerwright is permanently banned from BnB due to causing eldritch rule fuckery and also demanding they take multiple turns.

Pop Culture Builds 11: Geno (Super Mario RPG)
When one thinks of Mario games, I’ll bet very few of them ever consider “extradimensional threats” to be among his enemies, but such was the case in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Hailing from a dimension of gray and metal, the robotic craftsman Smithy invaded Mario’s dimension with an army of living weapons, starting by dropping a colossal sword called Exor right into Bowser’s Castle to serve as the main portal for the weapons to invade the planet from. However, on the way down, Exor smashed through the Star Road, a celestial construct which is integral to granting the wishes of mortals. As such, a celestial emissary was sent down to retrieve the missing fragments of the Star Road, and fight back against Smithy’s Hordes.
This celestial being, whose name is unpronounceable to mortal tongues, needed a body, and it found one in the form of a child’s toy, it’s celestial power growing it to a much more suitable height and lending magic and might to it. Furthermore, to better work with Mario and the other heroes, it took the name of the toy in question: Geno.
Geno is a brave soul who likely had some measure of authority in the stars above, and so he behaves with confidence, courage, and wisdom, as if he expects others to look up to him. However, that courage can border on recklessness as he at first finds himself in over his head against the living weapons of Smithy, but he grows to rely upon Mario and his allies over time.
Today’s entry marks a first on the blog, as this pop culture build will be using Pathfinder Second Edition for the primary build!
For this build, I debated between the automaton and poppet ancestries, but I settled on automaton purely because of the racial feat to integrate a weapon into their bodies. With this in mind, I also decided that a sharpshooter automaton made the most sense given Geno’s propensity for both gunplay and magic.
For this build, I’m going to recommend a evoker wizard build with the gunslinger multiclass archetype, granting you an arsenal of spells but also skill with your integrated guns. In general I recommend class feats that enhance hostile spellcasting, as well as gunslinger feats that enhance their readiness.
Overall, Geno favors powerful evocation spells, reflecting his spell list in-game, but don’t forget to take useful buffing spells too, as his Geno Boost Spell is nothing to sneeze at.
Naturally, the most important equipment for Geno is his integrated gun, and since geno’s weaponry varies between firing shot from his fingertips to launching his fist in a rocket punch to taking off the hand to reveal a larger weapon, you should feel free to vary up and use any firearm that tickles your fancy. Beyond that, also pick up useful protective magic items and those that provide utility as well.
Of course, this would hardly be the only way to play Geno. Consider going Gunslinger with the spellshot way and archetype, or taking it back to 1st edition with the spellslinger archetype for wizard, either as a wyrwood, or perhaps using the homebrew automaton or poppet conversions on my Patreon!
Geno is a classic character for fans of the Mario rpgs, and it’s a pity that he doesn’t show up in more (not even Smash!) That being said, a magical gunslinger doll is an interesting enough build that it doesn’t have to follow his aesthetic exactly.

Some of these factors shift or widen the economic, societal, & educational gaps in societal castes between adventurers in a system of classism.

Magic Circles: A magic circle is a circle of space marked out by practitioners of some branches of magic. They generally believe it will contain energy and form a sacred space. They believe it will also provide them a form of magical protection. Special powers that rely on the power of traced shapes and diagrams to function. Almost always a circular design. Comes with additional shapes of varying complexity inside the circle. Sometimes only required for a special ceremony. Sometimes necessary for anything and everything remotely magical.  It is a form of hermetic magic. Geometric magic usually sets itself up as a type of functional magic. It is frequently paired with ritual magic. Its instant runes when the magic seems to spawn the shapes rather than the other way around. Instant runes are generally involved anyway as the activation of the shape may cause writing to appear. Magic using wands, mage sticks, scepters, & broomsticks summon magic circles that are geometric magic. More complicated geometric magic designs are required for more complicated forms of magic. They are called arrays. The more detailed the array and the more stable the magic. The bigger the magic circle the more powerful the magic effect is. There are different geometric shapes depending on the class of magic the caster is using. There are several known variations. Some correspond to the major schools of magic and some to magical specialization. Combining geometric shapes leads to more complex forms of magic. The most powerful of spells use sacred geometry. His/her/their magic circles radiate or shine cardinal, sapphire, obsidian, opal, amethyst, emerald, gold, or silver.

STEAM NEXT FEST JUNE 2023 ROGUE EDITION
It’s another edition of Steam Next Fest, with a whole deluge of demos for people to try on the platform. As a rogue-genre self-proclaimed connoisseur, this June 2023, I dive into the literal hundreds of Coming Soon titles to pick out at random something that vaguely interests me. As such, this selection is entirely subjective to my own taste and I’ll clarify what each vague category means.
I tried to spend at least 30 minutes per title to see if their demo slice is able to ‘hook’ as it were.
Let’s go!
NEEDS MORE TO STAND OUT
While simple isn’t necessarily bad, I consider these games either being too derivative or not having some ‘spark’ to draw in people who may have already played similar games.
Death Must Die
Imitation seems to be the sincerest form of flattery, considering the game’s basic mechanics being what Vampires Survivor popularized in recent memory, and a UI uncannily like Hades, down to its flourish, besides other things borrowed from the latter.
God of Weapons
Similarly to Death Must Die, this is also one being an auto-battler. It does have an interesting gimmick in that you need to sort your inventory to try activate synergies, but I’m not sure if that’s enough at this point.
Spellshot
Getting upgrades for your bullets for synergies, effects and firing them as you try to kite waves of enemies in a pretty cramped room is okay as an idea. I can see the potential, but it’s not for me.
INTERESTING CONCEPTUALLY
These are titles that have things that draw me or I can acknowledge seem quite fun, but it’s not quite for me.
Acolyte of the Altar
Take Hearthstone, or perhaps Legends of Runeterra, and give it some randomness to get this game. There’s some fun to be had to play around the Beasts’ Rage skills which activate as turns go on, or events that could see you picking up a not quite helpless dog which could potentially ruin your primary gameplan. Deckbuilder enthusiasts can definitely consider this one.
The Black Pepper Crew
With your eclectic crew of furries, pick up bounties and take your targets down. It’s a tactical RPG with random elements as you could pick up some amazing item, or find a godly crew member to add to your roster. I think it controls a little stiffly - which is probably odd to say about a TRPG - which can be worked out in time.
Cards Survivors
Protect the bottom of your screen with the draw of the deck, firing bullets to fend off the horde from the top. It’s got a bit more going for it as you try to wrangle the piercing shots and / or cry out in dismay as the rocket AOE doesn’t clear as much as you wanted it to.
Finely Diced
Imagine serving up dice to your customers. It’s deceptively challenging since you need to hope the dice are weighted in your favour and if they aren’t, you’re forced to send them off anyway and not get paid for your troubles. I blanked out and spent all my money on ingredients and really hecked up my dice faces so uh, give it your best shot.
Knights of the Cross
In order to not be shanked by the Polish, I will only refer to this game as Knights of the Cross. It felt to me like a more story-driven Slay the Spire, which is fine and all. The Live2D jiggling boob physics is definitely distracting, but can be a selling point if you’re into that.
Lucky Island
A cute little spin on a typical sim city builder management game, where you play the slot machine to get resources for your residents. I’m not sure how to really work on the slot machine as I felt it rather clunky to actually utilize, and it’s basically the foundation of the game.
I’d like to take this mid-roll to shill a little.
If you find my subjective list interesting, consider tipping me on Ko-Fi so that I can buy these games for myself and support the devs. Link is in the description as well.
Now for the rest of the list.
TO LOOK OUT FOR
Titles I have more interest in than those in the previous category, basically.
Digs
Alongside another game in this category, you basically get to create your own tower defense map by chunking the path yourself and hoping you get the stuff you need from the rocks around you. You can’t just dig out with abandon, as you will be forced to stop when you hit too much ‘noise’, and enemy spawns can appear just about right beside your beloved treasure.
Let’s! Revolution!
Reminiscent of the classic Minesweeper, you need to flip over the tiles to chase down Lord not-Farquaad. Hope you have enough energy for the skills, or have the resources you need to get the upper hand on the enemies hiding face-down. For future builds, being able to use the WASD to move around the field might be nice, as otherwise, there’s a lot of clicking involved. At the very least, let the player just zoom across rows or columns they’ve already unveiled.
TileDeck TD
A different take on tower defense, you also build your own map based on the cards you draw. As nice as it is to just slap down single exit roads, you will need to branch them out to access the resources on the outer ring so that you can actually protect your castle from future waves.
Wizard with a Gun
If you liked Cult of the Lamb, I think this one should be a dead ringer for you. It’s got similar overworld exploration mechanics for materials to craft more bullets and to fix up the world one bit at a time with the power of extreme violence. Potentially.
PERSONAL PICKS
The ones I’d prioritize to purchase.
Cuisineer
Did you want to be more hands-on violent in the Atelier series, or even Recettear? Pick up Cuisineer where you can whack the living lights out of everything in the world outside and bring them back home to serve up in delectable dishes in your restaurant, or simply to fulfill errands. The rogue-lite elements are, well, lighter here - to me anyway - so if you aren’t really a fan of the randomness, there’s still plenty of static elements of action combat and management for you to work on. The early game hell is certainly real here!
Dicefolk
Your team of three not-Pokemon accompany you to the greater outside to defeat other not-Pokemon! The battle system is simple but engaging, with three dice per side determining your actions. You must spend the enemy dice before you can end your turn, but you do get some control over the randomness. I really enjoyed the demo, doing Rotation Battles while picking up my mostly-snail homie for the team and bopping the creatures along the way.
Froggy’s Battle
Wow, who could have imagined a frog game would make its way here? Jokes aside, it’s another pretty mechanically simple game where you go round and round in your skate tube and pulling off sick moves to style on your quote unquote rizzless amphibian brethren. It’s also really cute to boot.
Heretic’s Fork
There’s something magical about being some unpaid intern working away at a gamified version of being purgatory’s jailor, accompanied by legally distinct Klippy. It’s got some bopping music to go with watching your big balls swinging back and forth to smite the sinners trying to escape hell.
Robobeat
With an opening more or less beat for beat taken straight from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, this wholly robotic Star Lord will be gunslinging to cassettes you can change on the fly to find a beat you can shoot to. Of course, you’re entirely free to do completely tone-deaf clears by not matching the rhythm, but where’s the style in that?
CONCLUSION
Steam Next Fest June 2023 will be on until 26 June Pacific Time. I am just one man trying out a mere handful out of one specific sub-genre’s available demos, so if you have the time, definitely do give the whole lot a shot!
Until next time. Thanks for watching.

Spellslinger
Magic and guns aren’t so different. If arcane power is like gunpowder and a spell is like a bullet, you are like a gun, directing your spells with precision at unfortunate targets. You mix the disciplines of gun and spell, sometimes loading arcane charges with your shots and firing streaks of lighting, frost, or flame in the wake of your bullet.
Tumblr media
SPELLCASTING When you reach 3rd level, you complement your bullets with the ability to cast spells. Cantrips. You learn finger guns and two other cantrips of your choice from the wizard spell list. You learn an additional wizard cantrip of your choice at 10th level.
Spell Slots. The Spellslinger Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest. Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher. You know three 1st-level wizard spells of your choice, two of which you must choose from the abjuration and evocation spells on the wizard spell list. The Spells Known column of the Spellslinger Spellcasting table shows when you learn more wizard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be an abjuration or evocation spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level. The spells you learn at 8th, 14th, and 20th level can come from any school of magic. Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the wizard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the wizard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must be an abjuration or evocation spell, unless you’re replacing the spell you gained at 3rd, 8th, 14th, or 20th level. Spellcasting Ability. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for your wizard spells. You use your Intelligence whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a wizard spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one. Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier. Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier
BANG, YOU'RE DEAD! At 3rd level, you can use Deeds with finger guns spell attacks. Additionally, when you hit a target with a finger guns attack, you can spend a risk die as a bonus action to deal an extra 1d8 force damage to the target.
SPELLSHOT Beginning at 7th level, you can load an entire cantrip into your gun. When you use your action to cast a cantrip, you can use your bonus action to make one ranged attack with a firearm or make a ranged spell attack using the finger guns cantrip.
RUNE-CARVED CARTRIDGES Also at 7th level, firearms you use count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
MAGIC BULLET Starting at 10th level, you can use your action to fire a bullet wreathed in the evocation of a magic missile spell. The attack must use a firearm and the target must be within the firearm’s normal range. Do not roll this attack; it automatically hits its target and deals force damage. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
IMPROVED SPELLSHOT At 14th level, when you use your action to cast a spell, you can expend one risk die as a bonus action to make one ranged attack with a firearm or make a ranged spell attack using the finger guns cantrip. If the spell requires a spell attack roll, you can choose to substitute the spell attack with a ranged attack using a firearm. Add the risk die to the firearm attack roll. On a hit, the attack deals its normal damage, in addition to the effects of the spell.
