Bizarre question for worldbuilding: what kind of fungus would be best at interfacing with electronics? Whether that be actively picking up and transmitting signals or just wiring itself into a keyboard and manipulating it that way; it's a librarian, so I don't have to be picky. I was thinking a cordyceps, but if you have better ideas, I am all (wood) ears!

@specsthespectraldragon Honestly, I think any mycorrhizal fungus would work. The mycorrhizal network of fungal mycelium is already thought to function as a communication network among trees and other plants (though to what degree is debatable.) The signals in a mycorrhizae are chemical rather than electric; there's some evidence for plants sending electrical signals, but I believe that's largely between different parts of one plant rather than among multiple individuals.

Of course, you're working within a fictional setting, so feel free to mess about with this as much as you want. If your world's scientists have discovered that plants evolved ways to extend their electrical signalling capabilities to the mycorrhizae through the fungal mycelium, I think that would be a perfectly reasonable bit of science fiction to toss in there.

[holds out my little baby half-angel] Mellis is, amusingly, the inverse of Horatio as she is a girl being raised by priests (although that denomination is closer to how the welsh/irish used to do it, where being mixed-gender is not a big deal as long as everyone behaves and there's no canoodling, so she COULD be a priest if she wanted. just has to turn 18 first.).

[A sweet lass! Is becoming a priest something she's interested in? Or is she perhaps a little more adventurous? Then again, knowing how the Priests of Rathma and the paladins roll, she could also be an adventurous priest.]

Once Mahda Linarian was no longer in the picture, Jem and Era were partially raised by the community. They still had Bul'Kathos around, and he did his best to make time for them, but between his duties as King, trying to keep the tribes united, training Burra to be Queen, and dealing with his grief, Bul didn't have much left to give.

Communal parenting wasn't anything new to the barbarians, but not having their parents around was terribly new for Era and Jem. Era did not take to being raised this way, instead leaning hard into a rebellious streak, and Jem started finding more solace in his druidic cousins.

A mom of two children at Uvalde was put in handcuffs after urging police and law enforcement to enter the school.

Once freed from her cuffs, she jumped the school fence, ran inside and sprinted out with her kids.

Police lied about the timeline.

They lied about shooter having body armor.

They lied about him being barricaded.

They lied about border patrol on-scene

They handcuffed a parent who tried to help their child! They fought parents doing what every parent would have done. Some of them went there to get their own kids and left the others and they have the nerve to say your thankful none of them lost their lives …. They are sick and need to step down, those parents , teachers and surviving children have 10 times the courage than these cops. They took a terrible situation and somehow made it worse.

While children hid in that room being told "it's time to die", while they fought parents panicking at their kids screams their children bled out instead of getting medical care. 10 year old survivors covered in their friend's blood had more courage than every officer there being able to retell these horrors to reporters. Their response is self centered as was their self preservation that was on display. So much for protect and serve and good guys with guns.

Tazing and pepper spraying parents some of whose children were just murdered because the police were too cowardly to go in themselves. 40 percent of the town's budget goes to a police department that apparently isn't worth 40 cents let alone $40.

And they wonder why people wanted police to be defunded/abolished

My first kitbash! Mathematically a deathmark plus a technomancer can only equal one thing: our favorite betrayal gremlin Lysikor!

It's a first attempt so it is definitely clumsy in places. But I'm having fun customizing. Maybe I'll steal some scarabs for more canopteks for the base.

Also if anyone can remember the Ithakas color scheme please save me, my memory is a leaky bucket. I know it's silver and beyond that who knows.

Due to reasons I am contemplating a hypothetical future cicada that is the modern periodical cicada but As Loud As Arthropodically Possible. As cicadas (probably) cannot evolve the ability to build boomboxes, what would be their next best steps?

That reminds me of bladder cicadas who have an enormous hollow abdomen used for sound resonance!

So maybe something along those lines, although the bladder cicada is not the loudest species. Which species is the loudest is under some debate, but the general consensus is Brevisana brevis, an African species. I could not, however, find anything that says how they manage to be the loudest. It’s not size, because they are not the largest species of cicada. I don’t know enough about sound amplification in insects to guess how one might be as loud as possible, though.

Hi, again. Still working on the story with the stiletto snake bite. Just read your response to specsthespectraldragon's post, so now was wondering where stilettos would fall? Like how stabby/bitey are they? Are they calmer or more panicky? Would my baddie have to rile him up first?

Hello hello - stilettos aren't, like, the bitiest snakes in the world, but they can be very high-strung and are easily stressed out, so it doesn't take a lot to make them want to bite. Even gentle handling is enough to make a lot of them want to do some biting.

The cool thing about stilettos - which I think helps make them a great choice for your story! - is that their fangs are adapted to swing out, so they don't even have to open their mouths to stick you. There is literally no safe way to hold them, and they don't have to think "oh dang I gotta open my mouth now," all they have to do is swing their head around. This, along with their more high-strung disposition, means they can and will bite with very little provocation and very little warning.

[hands tyreal gets fired au inarius and tyreal a half-angel] thots?

"Where did you get that?" Inarius demands. His hair is standing on edge, as it sometimes does when he's feeling emotional enough to lose track of his human guise.

"They were hiding in the sewers." Tyrael gravely answers. “My resonance drew up together, and I convinced them I would not harm them.” He adjusts his grip on the human - angel? angelic human? - the child asleep in his arms.

“No kidding.” Inarius’s eyes are fixated on the child’s wings. “Humans fear what they don’t understand. Kid’s lucky to be alive.”

Tyrael seems saddened by that. “It is fortunate I came across them. They are safe now.” He pets the child’s face, porcelain perfect. How anyone could wish ill on such innocence, he couldn’t imagine.

When he looks up however, Inarius is frowning hard at the child.

“Brother?”

“Tyrael.” Inarius’s tone brokers no argument. “I’ll come back. There’s just...some things I have to work through.” He turns to leave the makeshift camp, hidden in an outcropping of stone.

“But-” Tyrael jerked a hand forward, and the child squirms in their sleep. Immediately, he readjusts, quietly comforting them.

“...All I can see when I look at them,” Inarius speaks lowly. “are the ghosts of my past. That is not a burden they need to bear. Let me reconcile reality. I will return.” He doesn’t take the path out of their camp, instead hopping to the top on the outcropping in a burst of inhuman agility.

“...Alright.” The elder angel relents. The discovery of an angelic child had clearly shaken his sibling.

“While uh...while I’m away,” Inarius glances over his shoulder, runs a hand through his hair in anxious habit. “Maybe try and figure out what happened to the parents? Angelic children don’t just fall out of the sky you know.”
