Long time no talk! Pardon the suddenness of this ask but it’s 4 a.m. and I was thinking too hard about the sasamiya verse.
I was wondering about your thoughts on Hanzawa since I don’t think I’ve heard you talk about him in depth and I was wondering if it was a common to see him as aroace spec coded?
Thanks ^^
All good, who hasn't been up at 4 am thinking too hard about blorbos? Lmao
Idk if it's common to see him as ace/aro coded, but I don't think it's wrong to see him that way either! He's never been shown to have any interest in romance or sex in either the present or the past. He also seems pretty uncomfortable with them being brought up in regards to himself or others. Idk if you remember me joking in the authors notes of one of the parts from the kghr LN about his alleged homophobia actually masking his dislike of sex in general, but I think that interpretation can be a valid one.
It definitely feels like more of a reach to say he's aro/acespec coded than it does for Hirano, but what is fandom if not a game of twister 😂

Happy birthday to the number one princess in the world!! 💖
~from her biggest fans :)
ramble of my scattered thoughts on the piece under cut as usual cuz i love talking 😋
This has been an idea I've been cookin for a while, and it was so cluttered and unlike any other ensemble piece I've made... and I decided I oughta do it anyway. I love Miku, I love Vocaloid, and I wanted to do something really ambitious and crazy for her anniversary. Crazy that she's turning her "canon" age this year TwT
I had the idea floating around since like, May...? And then finally started acting on it around June 18. I'm terrible with deadlines, obvious with how I can never make a silly birthday post in time, so I started wayyyy ahead to make sure I have some room to be lazy lol, especially with an idea as ambitious as this.
This was finished on July 12! So I had to sit on this for an annoying amount of time. Very difficult for someone like me who just wants to talk about everything I'm working on to the masses. But at the very least, that gave me the time to work on the draft for this post.
~~~
Here's some ~behind the scenes~ scribbles leading up to the finished piece!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left is the chicken scratch plan i made in my handy dandy notebook (whenever things are getting real and ambitious, i always made a rough ROUGH plan in there. Usually I'd do a rough pass of the full thing, but this was too complicated for me to do traditionally. I majorly benefited from digital tools to make this possible). CyberDiva and CyberSongman were considered, but I ended up cutting them cuz I just didn't feel like drawing them sorry-- (just pretend they're off to the side. They gave Ruby and Clara the pizza lol). Right is the "final" completed sketch (before I decided to include Chika mid-way through coloring and VY1 and VY2 near the finish line). I started by drawing the main "groups" separated on a different canvas so I can plop them into the main canvas for easy rearranging and transforming. However I got lazy and ended up drawing everyone in the bottom right corner directly on the canvas since I liked seeing the big picture of everyone's positions. Y'know.
Almost excluded Chika! But I like her design so much that I just felt like including her last-minute. You win this time, Chika fans. VY1 and VY2 were very close to being cut! I added them when I began doing the banner and thought "eh why not". I figured their non-human designs would be pretty easy to include pushed back in the bg. Ik VY1 is more commonly associated with the fan design, but I referenced the hairpin cuz it was simpler and the fan looked very annoying to draw 😭
Sorry to the fans of many Vocaloids I had to cut because this composition was insane enough as is. I promise I wanted to include fellas like CUL, LUMi and Sachiko 😭 I will admit I was a little biased on who I wanted to include over others. Like, I don't normally care for Bruno and Clara, but I wanted to get some more international 'loids in the mix. Also wanted to stick in the realm of official designs and not fan-designs since, as much as I can appreciate those, are just a whole "wait who is that guy supposed to be" situation I didn't wanna deal with. I also did wanna include even more character references through the balloons, but they ended up being kind of ugly and overcomplicated the BG :,) (Oh, and while this was originally planned to be a Vocaloid-only piece, I did end up including Teto, Neru, and Haku 'cuz those are Miku's besties dude!!! They may not be Officially in the club but they're her girls and it would be criminal to not invite them to her birthday).
Anyway, this project marks the first time I've drawn a lot of Vocaloids. Lily, Piko, Rana, Yuki, Yukari, Miki, Maika, and many more lol. All of 'em I've heard or seen in passing, but now I actually drew them, and some have really cool and fun designs!! I got into a habit of drawing Merli after this since I just love her design for example. And I'll probably be drawing more lol!!
Oh and the last thing I'll add for now!! The cake is indeed made up of various song references!! I wanted to reference the "big four" producers, just absolute icons in Vocaloid history. The pink/black checkerboard is "World is Mine" (Ryo), the crescents on the side is "Rolling Girl" (Wowaka), the smiley faces is "Matryoshka" (Hachi), and the three hearts on the side is "The Vampire" (DECO*27, which is sort of a symbol of his whole Mannequin album tbh). I know "The Vampire" is a bit modern but I couldn't think of anything else off the top of my head. I'm a fake DECO fan I know 😔 "Matryoshka" was originally going to be referenced in the colors of the candles but believe me it looked like shit so I just went for something else last minute 😭
That's all I have to say!!! Hope you didn't mind the text wall if you made it here. I hope you like it as much as I do!!!! Happy freakin' birthday Miku!!!!
I have to deal with tagging all these characters now for my page,,, in the drafts my tags got cut off after a certain point so I think I'm massively breaching the tag limit 😭 um... I'll figure that out later...
not losing sleep that i can't tag everyone, even for page organization purposes because some characters have pretty generic names and some are a little hard to see in full yknow. If you're one of those people who tag every character in the art piece you reblog... I am very sorry.
reasons i will never forgive the showrunners if they don't at least acknowledge jjpope by the end of s3
jj taking every opportunity ever to touch pope (god there are SO many more examples too):
jj getting sexual with, to, or about pope and ONLY pope, ever:
INTRICATE RITUALS:
(with coincidentally well timed lyrics right as it cuts to this scene sorry not sorry editing choices like that are done for a reason)
jj very often gazing at his lips instead of his eyes while talking to him:
(seconds before going in for the kiss)
jj constantly putting himself between pope and danger or being protective of him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
KISSING:
Tumblr media
INTIMATE NECK KISSING IN A HOT TUB FOR WHICH THERE IS NO HETEROSEXUAL REASON FOR????:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I RAN OUT OF ROOM FOR IMAGES BUT LETS NOT FORGET ALSO
how jj has quite a few pet names for pope but no one else, how pope and jj are almost always paired off together, how jj has explicitly said 'i love you' to pope TWICE, how jj calms pope down when he starts spiraling, how jj and pope have more physical contact and affection than the two romantic leads, how jj is supposed to be a manho from how he's introduced and yet the opening shot is the one and only time we've seen him with someone in a romantic or sexual manner. how about the multiple accounts of people sharing gifs of them to people who have never seen the show with 0 context provided and damn near every time the consensus is 'they are not straight/they are hitting on each other'. I've covered most of this before. the list goes on.
we could even get into film editing choices from the perspective of my bestie who has a degree in that very field and how SO many of their scenes are shot, lit, scored, and all around edited with romantic intent,.
but then wait, there's more! how about how multiple members of the cast (including rudy!!) have stated they support the ship and think it's cute? or how multiple netflix socials heavily suggested jjpope was going to be canon? how so many of the key jjpope moments were improv that could have been cut and redone (like the fucking hot tub scene) if they didn't want it going in a possible homo direction??? or how jjpope was the first major ship to come out of obx BECAUSE of such heavy handed subtext?? and then the showrunners have the audacity to pivot to jiara at the last second because of a handful of fucking rabid stans that harassed the cast so severely it drove most of them off of socials??? with the paper thin excuse of 'oh we never expected that lets explore it'???????????
and whats the definition of queerbaiting again? "Queerbaiting is a marketing technique for fiction and entertainment in which creators hint at, but then do not depict, same-sex romance or other LGBTQ+ representation. The purpose is to attract ("bait") a LGBTQ+ or straight ally audience with the suggestion or possibility of relationships or characters that appeal to them."
right.
i still have a sliver of hope that their 'exploration' of jiara is just like, 2 episodes of them giving it a shot and realizing they actually suck together. i still have hope they aren't gonna do us so blatantly dirty and might give us something even if it's just crumbs. most of the cast are loud and proud queer allies, the showrunners have so far been pretty fucking cool and extremely supportive of the queer community, even refusing to film in north Carolina because of transphobic bathroom laws. it would feel especially dirty if they really did bait us because of that. but man. MANNN. it just ain't looking good. i'd hate to give up on the show. i love it and love the actors even more but if they do it, i might just have to.
while I'm being earnest: the thing is, this show is not consistent about most things. I've talked in the past about how, for instance, there are arcs that just don't make sense when viewed through a purely watsonian lens, or episodes that are a lot more effective out of context. the writers' room was not particularly cohesive. continuity is a joke. characterization changes from one episode to the next. (I've heard that they didn't have a writers' bible, and I have no idea whether that's true, but frankly I think I'd be more surprised if it wasn't true.) and that's before we get into how actors' and directors' choices can bring new layers to the episodes as written, or even seem to say something completely different from the episodes as written!
I think that's a big reason why this fandom is so huge and rich and has lasted so long: there's room for so many interpretations. not only is it possible to pick and choose which parts of canon to keep, I'd argue that to some extent it's actually necessary to do so; there are so many inconsistencies and continuity errors and internal contradictions that you'll just never be able to come up with a grand unified theory of supernatural. fandom lives in the inconsistencies and the continuity errors and the internal contradictions! and with spn, there are so many of them, and so much of the show, that there are very few theories and headcanons and interpretations that can't be justified in some way. yes, there are some I like more than others, and yes, there are some I think are better justified than others! but in general, even if I completely disagree with someone's take, I can also see where they're getting it from. I may think, and point out, that there are things that contradict their take, but they'll have some examples of things that support it. which one of us is right? both of us! neither of us! two supernatural fans, three opinions, baby!
but the downside of the fact that there are very few interpretations that can't be justified is that…there are very few interpretations that can't be justified. like, I'm sorry to break this to everyone, but no voice is ever going to ring out from the heavens and declare conclusively that one of us is the winner of fandom. (and even if it did, my people don't generally put much stock in that kind of thing.) someone's interpretation being different from yours, even wildly different, even different in a way you don't like, is not necessarily a sign that they haven't watched the show, or that they don't enjoy it, or that they're stupid, or that you're coming from a place of cool logic and rationality and they're just making shit up and projecting, or that they want to spite you personally. I think all of us (and I totally include myself in this) could stand to get a little more comfortable with that. because at the end of the day what matters a lot more than whether you think someone is right or not is how the two of you treat each other. publicly mocking and belittling someone because you don't like their take on a fictional character is just not the way to keep a fandom going.
Percy Jackson Analysis ep.1
(did that sound vaguely pretentious? I feel like a need a funny name for this)
SO SORRY it took me this long. To be truthful I put on My Happy Marriage to listen to while refining my notes, I'm not a huge romance lover so I didn't think I would get that invested but then I proceeded to binge the whole thing...
anyways go watch My Happy Marriage, it messed me up in the best ways
On to my children, the way I wrote these notes was chronological, including lines I thought were powerful and thoughts I had while watching, enjoy my sub-tier analysis
To start with I think the casting, as well as most of the acting in the show, is phenomenal. There are some acting scenes which aren't great, but the nice things about child actors is that they grow and improve
iconic opening line 10000000/10
blackjack cameo? *chefs kiss*
One thing that really stands out to me regarding young Percy in school is that the bullying is portrayed so well. Like, sure some kids get punched but more often it's whispers, snide comments, teachers not doing enough to stop it. Not to mention when you have mental health problems or neurodivergency on top of that it makes it even harder to fit in and gain help from authority figures. There's no way teachers weren't aware of how Percy was being treated (we even see this in the books with mortals that don't care about him getting picked on by other mortals, think sea of monsters)
GROVER!!! I know I already ranted about the casting but Aryan just does such a good job. I hope in later seasons we see him more than we did in the books.
I'm UNHEALTHILY OBSESSED at the idea that mythomagic cards are to help train halfbloods. It also gets me thinking about season 3 interactions between little Nico and Percy. But it's incredibly clever to have a game that would entice children to learn more about the monsters they're likely to face against. It's also a clever marketing move irl.
Once again great portrayal of bullying while still keeping the show appropriate for kids
UNREALISTIC their paper would never be printed with color ink /lh
I really enjoy how they displayed dyslexia, it seems very accurate to descriptions.
"how it makes you feeeeel"
The lines about not everyone who looks like a hero being a hero and not everyone who looks like a monster being a monster is some of the best foreshadowing I've ever seen. It perfectly foreshadows Luke, Medusa, and generally captures one of the major points of Uncle Ricks books.
the hold fast line being used through the series *chefs kiss*
One thing I stand by in both the books and series is that I was incredibly disappointed in how little Chiron directly stood up for Percy- even in regards to mortals. Like yeah ok he's gonna be a hero but he's also twelve, help the poor boy!
The bullying Dodds shows Percy is also very accurate to real life. I've had many teachers who straight up bully kids just like this and are never called out for it.
The utilization of the word 'Special' thought the series is a great example of how "PoLite EUpHEmiSm' and often weaponized and used as derogatory terms and serves as an example of why many push for using terms like disabled over differently abled.
"childhood trauma, feelings of inadequacy" DAMN GROVER just going for the jugular, pop off. love how the show incorporates realistic convos kids would have. This instance and other little side bars we see throughout the show add something that I often find missing in television throughout all generas. it's incredibly important to have realistic convos to help solidify characters as people.
"Never ever stand up to them" "that doesn't sound right" THIS LINE 10000000/10
"there you are" we're not fools Percy Jackson
I did feel like this should have been Perseus Jackson seeing as how it's pretty canonical that monsters and gods alike only refer to him using his full name, adding on the the names have power theme that permeates throughout the series.
trauma for days
"is he dead?"
Chiron low-key being the embodiment of gaslighting, girl boss, gatekeep
UNCLE RICK CAMEO!!!
realist portrayal of adults already having their mind made up and children being unable to do anything except tell their story over and over
(also does Kronos speak to Percy in his dreams as the school principal? I genuinely can't remember, if so Kronos sure knows how to embody nightmares)
I honestly wish they would have expanded more on both how guilty grover would have felt rating Percy out (even if it means protecting him) and also how betrayed Percy would have felt. his fatal flaw is loyalty, grover was his very first and very best friend, he only really has his mother, this would have been a huge punch in the gut.
anyone else feel like grover and Percy should have been interviewed separately?
I'm sorry, I have to complain about the lighting in this show. WHY IS IT SO DARK? THIS ISNT SHOWN IN THEATERS! MY EYES ARENT THIS GOOD. IM SQUINTING TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT IS ON THE TV!! WHYYYYY??!?!
"at least I know you think you didnt" -not helpful Chiron :/ shame on you
"you might have the most difficult journey" great foreshadowing
'SPeCiaL'
I know there was lots of discussion about how Gabe wasn't abusive 'enough' but often times abuse isn't easy to see or what TV leads you to believe. The show keeps it age appropriate while also showing how much of a leech and how controlling he is (answering Sally's phone, not wanting her to leave to the beach). Honestly I might make a separate post on this but at the moment I'm tired of seeing ignorant people claim that Gabe wasn't aggressive enough or that Sally wasn't meek enough to be abused.
I was disappointed that Eddie became a 'good' character instead of showing how abusive adults often have buddies backing them up
It's realistic Percy would talk to Gabe even though he's a dick, kids want to make connections
Sally in the rain- reference to Poseidon 10/10
Sally is just happy to see him :')
"all that matters is that your here, ok?" aww
BLUE FOOD!!!
"Is there something else you wanna talk about" mom knows
"I'm scared" damn does that resonate
once more just because Sally isn't portrayed as meek doesn't mean that that whole interaction wasn't unhealthy and abusive
di angelo reference! even if it's not our di angelo the name choice was incredibly purposeful
"it's getting angrier" personification of the storm lends well to Zeus and Poseidon
love PJO dream sequences
"who are you" does Kronos not know who Percy is? Gonna be real this confuses me, am I missing something obvious?
Sally was crying??!?!
the race from the car to the cabin is another example of the writers (and actors) creating realistic people you can connect to. the nostalgia that hit me in this scene was POTENT
It's so so so important to have a place to escape to as an abuse victim, and as a teen in general. Scratch that, just people in general need places to escape to which makes the cabin even more significant
Percy's self deprecating marshmallow talk :(
"I'm used to the world feeling weird to me" neurodivergency and mental health issues can create very isolating atmospheres making community important -camp is that community
Uncle Rick does a great job creating metaphores regarding discrimination and ableism
It's so hard to tell someone you trust and love that you think something is wrong, especially as a child. Walker did a fantastic job capturing all the mixed up emotions that occur.
"something that felt real to you but no one else could see" once again significant to neurodivergency and mental health
I don't personally like the choice to have Sally tell Percy that his father is a god. The acting in the scene also just rubs me really wrong - it feels fake. I think I enjoyed the book version better with him never receiving a clear answer until camp, and even then you can debate on how "clear" it was.
I would be freaking out so much more that Walker if my mom approached the subject like this. It would be incredibly frightening to think your mom was going insane alongside you.
"there is something wrong with my brain" once again, uncle Rick reaches out of the screen/pages to hit me where it hurts
"I don't want to see him" the betrayal he feels :(
grover pants scene (I feel no need to elaborate on this note, it was by far the funniest scene of the episode 1000000000+
"so the important thing is not to panic"
"who are you" nooo he's ur friend don't do this to me :(((
I love grover
very nice natural lead into explaining the mist
The show is unfortunately hit with the complex issue of trying to provide context to an audience who already knows and is eager to see the action. I know there were many criticisms about it but I will say my mother, who didn't read the books, felt she had a firm grasp on the lore of the show, so that counts for something?
"what else haven't we talked about, what else haven't you told me" broken trust :(((
"I'm actually 24" NOW IS NOT THE TIME GROVER
"won't all of us be safe" ha... about that
"swear it, SWEAR IT GROVER" damn, okay sally
again, WHY IS THE LIGHTING SO DARK?!?! I know it helps hide cgi but we know there's gonna be CGI in a show abt monsters and myths
"you are not broken, you are singular" amazing foreshadowing
Sally is bamf
trauma
the choice to make things silent after Sally 'dies' *chefs kiss once again
I just really love the shot of Percy surfing down the monster dust
"he must be the one" :)))
hope y'all enjoyed :)
Started going off about Sayo's gender AGAIN to my partner and they stopped me midway through to tell me to tumblr again. "sounds very tumblrish go on tumblr". Okay then. Yes I'm going to start every post like this I'm salty about it
Anyway. I was looking around places to see other people's thoughts on Sayo's gender identity and saw some takes that had me. Well. Taken aback.
Generally just this idea that Kanon is, without doubts or room for other interpretations, Sayo's expression of self-hatred, gender dysphoria, de-transitioning, etc. He is only a sign of Sayo's gender dysphoria regarding their transition to femininity and not so much a sign of anything else.
...If you saw my previous post, you know that I heavily disagree about Sayo's gender being canonically confirmed to be this or that identity, and that I believe there is room for trans woman headcanons, various nonbinary headcanons, genderfluid headcanons, and so on.
Back to Kanon. Gender dysphoria. Well. (For the record, I headcanon Sayo as genderfluid, so I may be biased.)
Kanon has this general thing where he is the outlet for much of Sayo's negative emotions. Because Beatrice is a witch, and thus not a part of the Rokkenjima dynamics, Beatrice cannot directly voice Sayo's frustrations with their life. Beatrice is a witch who has everything she could possibly want with magic (except Battler, whose return she is patiently awaiting). Therefore, Beatrice cannot be the one to voice Shannon's mundane troubles - the other servants bothering her, her bosses mistreating her, etc. She can play pranks on them, but she cannot be rude to her coworkers or bosses for Shannon, or be more personal. This is part of why Kanon was created - Shannon cannot be negative because she is meant to be bright and positive and adhere to patriarchal standards of how good, feminine women must be.
Tumblr media
This line from episode 2 summarizes how Kanon is Sayo's persona that can truly express the 'filthy' and human feelings they have.
Kanon was also created to ease Shannon's loneliness - to pretend that they had an ally always by their side - and to experiment with their gender expression. If their body wasn't able to fulfill the expectations they had of it (periods, breasts, hips - the expected puberty for a woman), then perhaps they could fulfill a different set of expectations.
Tumblr media
(...I have some issues with Confession - primarily centralizing Shannon as Sayo's main/real self, which is very often contradicted by the rest of the series - but this series of panels sums Kanon's role up well.)
I think Kanon's role - the boy who expresses discomfort that the girls cannot express - is part of why he is so often seen as a personification of dysphoria and self hatred. I believe you can interpret Kanon as such, but I also believe that it is a matter of interpretation, rather than a very clear-cut canon-indicated matter.
In many cases, Sayo's dysphoria seems to be far less about their lack of womanhood in particular, and far more about compulsory dyadism (“the instituted cultural mandate that people cannot undermine the sex dyad by possessing intersex traits”, according to Dr. Celeste Orr).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Sorry for the image spam. But this small collection should show what I mean: saying that they aren't "capable of love" because of their body, and agonizing over not being able to have children. Beyond that, both Shannon and Kanon are mocked by Beatrice for not meeting masculine or feminine standards (their status as furniture).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beyond that, Kanon's portrayal in many areas seems to suggest that he is on equal footing with Shannon and Beatrice: for example, being pitted against Shannon on equal footing in the Episode 6 duel, and the important part he plays later on in teaching Chick Beatrice how to become Beatrice once more. Chick Beatrice is only able to regain her true self by coming to understand the other sides of herself, including Kanon.
I didn't write all of this to try to disprove Sayo as a trans woman who primarily experiences gender dysphoria through Kanon theory, but mostly to show how it's not so heavily implied through text that it can be considered canon, haha.
...You might have noticed that I take people describing their headcanons as canon, thus implicitly denying others' interpretations, to be very, very... irritating.
How do you think Erza's relationship with Natsu and Gray changed post-Tower of Heaven arc? I know we see it in small ways (i.e. Gray being more open with her in one-on-one heart-to-hearts, Natsu trusting her to win her fights and live in the Battle of Fairy Tail arc, etc) but I was wondering if you had any specific headcanons I guess. Thanks :]
I wonder how long this ask has been in my inbox... sorry for taking so long! I think you might not even remember this ask either, but I'll answer it anyways, thanks!
Now-
I guess the most notable one would be that Erza goes from being the strict mediator of Natsu-Gray fights-- into someone that actively jumps into fights, too. She drifts from her role as the stern, serious knight into a playful enabler. I think this also happen because Lucy is in the fray now. I like to think that as a child, she was always put into the role of the mature, selfless, protective big sister of the group, and so continued it in Fairy Tail all the way to Phantom. After that (after she learned that she doesn't need to lead the battle, doesn't need to sacrifice, doesn't need to be strong, because she can be protected too by her friends--) she learns to let loose and be as cheeky and playful and whimsical as she likes. Like the young girl that used to want to do silly things like fly in the sky on a witch's broom, after TOH, she lets herself play and have fun. Her barrel-surfing at the bar during GMG is a good example.
Another point is her attitude towards love. (I have mixed feelings about Erza becoming local wingwoman in canon, but let's not talk about that today.) Before TOH, she didn't seem all that interested in romance anymore because of what happened to Jellal-- maybe a passing fancy, a sort of 'hey, that's cute' or 'oh, you're a couple, good for you' kind of detached attitude towards it. But after it, I'd love to think she starts jumping into being supportive of romances around her. She's much more perceptive to love between others because she's been holding back her own for so long thinking it was impossible, and she doesn't want anyone else to go through the same pain she did when the world kept getting in the way of her and Jellal's relationship. She naive and innocent, but when it comes to love, she's aware. She knows Alzack and Bisca like each other--- everyone does! She talks to Gray about returning Juvia's feelings. This insightful nature in Erza, borne of being heartbroken many times before--- is why Jerza's the only big four that actually have a long, genuine talk about how they want to advance their relationship each step of the way. This makes Jerza the most well-handled of the big four in my opinion. Not perfect, but it's a rocky, painful relationship that actually feels in some way like a realistic progression between two people trying to take a step towards a future together, considering if they're ready for a relationship before progressing.
Alright, enough Jerza, next.
Following on that Gray point. I really love the way Gray and Erza have a relationship where they truly let their hearts open to each other. Before TOH, it seems as if Gray is always chasing after Erza. From childhood, to TOH, Gray is always going after her, trying to break through her facade of strength to get one over her. It evolves into care after he sees her cry. Erza doesn't start returning this until Galuna, when she point her sword at him and threatens his loyalty Fairy Tail if he doesn't stop. She didn't try to see his perspective, and he threw it all back at her with the threat of 'kill me, then'. That was likely the first instance Erza truly felt Gray actually angry at her. He's been cranky, childishly competitive, and fearful of her--- but never so disappointed and broken. She sees Gray's anger with the same shock as Gray did, when he saw Erza's tears when they were young. Natsu's absent during their backstories, so Erza and Gray are the ones to hear each other out, (including Lucy, our insert character) and they are the ones to truly stand by each other and understand each other in their most vulnerable moments. They fight to get to that point in each other, and to me, they feel closer than they do to Natsu, even though Natsu is undeniably a third piece in their puzzle. It's just a sense that they always go together in a sentence, even though they're not a parallel like Natsu-Gray or Lucy-Levy. Even in Edolas, they come as a set piece naturally, as the two reliable saviours that show up in the nick of time. TOH is where Gray's chase for Erza finally reaches her heart. That's where the pinnacle of the Gray-Erza dynamic is reached, and they become a pair of perfect deuteragonists to Natsu and Lucy.
I'm sorry, as usual, I ramble too much and fail to answer the question.
I do think the easiest way to see changes in Erza after TOH is by how she really becomes a little more 'lax' in things. She joins them in messing around--- first seen in Fantasia, when she pulled out the gothloli. What she chose to show the world wasn't armour, which she's most proud of, she easily sheds the shell around her heart and puts on something silly, something she knows the general public will go crazy for, something brazen. And for some money she doesn't really need. It's just mischief, and she continues this trend into her fight with Evergreen, where she doesn't actually punish her for what she did. Even though she had all intentions to go through with consequences back on Galuna with Team Natsu, enough to abandon a crisis so they could learn their lesson about betraying the guild master. Evergreen truly betrayed the guild master, but she gets off with a slap on the wrist, because Erza learned the value of life, of unconditional care for friends, and being betrayed by Jellal didn't dull her ability to have grace for her enemies and forgive them.
Back to the point about Erza being the big sister, protector. She was the Jeanne d'arc of the tower-- the leader of the charge, the one that had to fight so everyone could continue, the one that motivated the battle to the end. Even though she didn't want to fight, she selflessly fought, for everyone's freedom. This continues all the way to TOH, but we most prominently see it in the first few arcs. She hears of a rumour in a bar and leads a team out to fight Eisenwald. She didn't have to, but she did, because she knew someone had to. She threw herself in front of Jupiter knowing it was reckless, and came back to fight Aria, too. She was ready to die when Jose had her. TOH even more so. She always charges ahead, thinking she was the strongest and thus she had to. But in Fantasia, that changes. Here, she willingly back down against Laxus despite knowing she was a much better fight--- she entrusts the role to Natsu instead, because she's learned that she doesn't need to fight the biggest enemies anymore. She knows she can fall back and watch someone else do the job instead. If that isn't growth from the pacifist that was forced to be Jeanne d'arc, I don't know what.
Alright, that was long. Glad to be back!
hi hope ur having a good day! sorry for the incoming stupid question but I didn't rlly know who else to ask. i plan on writing a mcu fic and wanda&pietro are going to be side characters in it, I don't like the fact that the mcu white washed them so I was planning on writing them as romani+Jewish but in one of your posts you discourage non-Roma to write Romani characters bc we might write them like a stereotype. should I write them as only Jewish or? thanks for reading
No, I would never tell you to erase or omit the fact that these characters are Romani. You should be able to include characters of color in your narrative without intruding on closed cultures or experiences that would be inappropriate for you to speak on.
In the past, I've stated that it's not appropriate for non-Romani people to write first-hand about Romani culture, community and upbringing. To that end, I would discourage anyone who is writing original fiction from using Romani characters as primary or POV protagonists. That doesn't mean you should never include Romani characters, however, rather than aiming for "authentic representation," you should focus on being aware of the social and historical contexts that apply to those characters and their circumstances. You can develop a sense of where a person comes from, what their family does, what kind of challenges they've faced, and things like that without digging into stuff like culture and customs. That may limit the scope of what you can represent-- you're not going to be writing about life inside a traditional community, for example-- but that's okay. You're just going to have to leave it to us to share those stories, if and when we choose.
With existing characters like Wanda and Pietro, it's tough because there are already so many voyeuristic and stereotypical depictions of their upbringing and their community in the canon. My goal has always been to sort through that material and identify the parts that are truthful or informative, and share them with proper context so that other fans can develop a better understanding of what these characters represent. I'm very happy to answer more specific questions about that, if you have any.
I don't know what the plot of your fanfic is, or how closely its going to hew to the M C U, but if you can do the research and figure out an appropriate, accurate way to fit European Romani characters into that setting, then more power to you. Personally, I think that those movies, especially the Avengers ones, kinda suck, and there's nothing salvageable about that version of Wanda or Pietro. It's not just that they're white, their story is an overall poor adaptation of the source material, and inserting Romani characters into those roles would actually create really awful, racist optics. These people are HYDRA collaborators, for fuck's sake. I don't think anybody, especially gadje, should be waste their time trying to "fix" the M C U Maximoffs.
some of my ramblings about doied are mainly the fact that i still can't understand what was the intention behind making him exist. like, i still don't understand the reasons for making him part of the story in this way, the way it happened and also why it happened like that?
[since it's almost going to 7am i feel like i should make it clear tone indicator /lighthearted i feel like it might sounds like i'm complaining but i'm just intrigued haushaksh]
at first doied was like a way q!roier talked when he said a fact or seemed nerdy kinda things like that and then it seemed to go a little bit the way of alter egos? Perhaps, i even remember that once it generated many theories involving dissociative identity disorder (DID ... i think that's how it's said in english, sorry if i'm wrong) because q!roier had already talked about hearing voices in his head that weren't his (it wasn't something related to the chat) and that sometimes he felt disconnected from reality. i personally didn't follow this theory much because it can be a sensitive topic to address and doing something insensitive that could be offensive is not a good thing to do. which makes me wonder, could it be that at some point cc!roier thought about making a plot related to this but to avoid any kind of misinformation or insensitivity towards the topic, maybe he decided to change it or was that never the initial intention? i personally believed more in the point of view that q!roier has several ways of expressing himself, whether through alter egos that are not necessarily DID but just that he uses other names to refer to himself when he wants to express/present himself in another way, almost like the way many artists do, i even have a distant memory where he talks about melissa and doied to q!jaiden and he even changes his voice and makes body expressions and it's good to remember that q!roier dressed up as melissa it was part of his plan involving the begining of his lore, so melissa is q!roier we saw it. so i always thought, ok... melissa and doied are part of who q!roier is, right? .......
i was completely lost when it was confirmed that doied is a person apart from q!roier. i still feel like i'm in the denial stage to be honest XD there are so many questions i don't even know where to start. but with sleep reaching my brain i'm just wondering if cc!roier considered the impact that turning doied into a canon character had? and not only that but the way the character was introduced and the path chosen as well. like, he does the "doied voice" since the beginning, it's often something out of roleplay, it's a recurring joke but now that doied is a real character who is apparently q!roier's twin brother? and that he switched bodies with q!roier ?!?! everything is different now!!*
and especially from the public eye, this is something i noticed a lot: the confusion in understanding whether something was being done and said with intention and reason, or not. when you follow a character like q!roier who is a character where you can't judge the book by its cover, you're aware that cc!roier has always been attentive to doing roleplay in a way that is subtle but always with intentions behind it that often surprises even those who watch, from using the camera to show the change of expressions after saying something super happy and remain super serious, demonstrating false feelings, doing something good and then saying that it was just a preparation for when the betrayal happens it will be more painful, talking about killing everyone who gets in the way and then recommending acting with the others as if nothing had happened and pretending to be happy... and many other examples. q!roier keeps a lot of information, he is very observant and can pretend and manipulate very well. including something that happened after the body swap with doied that gave me emotional damage, it was when after sending a cute message to q!cellbit, doied said out loud that it was working, "he's falling for it" that caught me so off guard but i also saw the reaction of many people who had also completely forgotten that it wasn't q!roier and this just shows that cc!roier is aware of what he decided to do with the story and he remembers his decisions with his characters. SO THAT'S THE POINT. we know what he's capable of and how subtly he roleplays. so it's agonizing to see things and think "was that intentional?" and not knowing if they were or not, but i also think that this even helps with theorizing and analyzing, which is a fun part of entertainment.
*but when i say that everything is different now, it's that by transforming something that was usually just used as something fun momentarily into a real and unique character who, to complicate everything, is pretending to be his twin brother is WILD. that's crazy. and even had a body swap!!! so now even in moments that it's obvious that it's not something within roleplay people go "OMG DOIED?!" and when i talk about moments that are > obviously outside of roleplay < it's like when cc!roier was telling about his trip to cc!quackity and there were questions "is this still doied or is this out of lore?" or when cc!roier was alone building with cc!rivers and he spoke in doied's voice and she called him doied because it's a thing they do and people freaked out and were surprised, acting suspicious and stuff like that and sometimes it may seem too much but still, there are also big impacts like, what will it mean in the future? at what moments will really doied become careless and talk as used to? when will intentions become ambiguous? are people to blame for doubting and suspecting when the lore revolves around discovering that a character is pretending to be someone they're not? and the questions remain as to why q!roier spoke like that before and "behaved like doied"? what are the implications of this? how was this possible? why how when what huh??!?!!
i think the only way to stop how triggering that will be to see cc!roier talking like doied after going back to roleplay as q!roier is if doied dies HAJDJDHSK because i swear every time he does the voice i remember everything and i'm one step away from becoming the joker bring back q!roier he's still a rat what the actual fuck
but with that being said i trust in what cc!roier intends to do, from the beginning he's been interested in creating lore and continuing to follow the story he wants to do and it's good that he's doing what he wants, i'm curious to see where this all goes i just hope it ends with a happy ending because i can't stand being sleepless writing about how this character disturbs my brain im so tired get him out of my mind please what am i doing with my life.
I love your au, and I adore Kaída! She's a little gremlin who needs all the love and understanding that Jay and the ninja can give her (along with a straitjacket...just in case).
I would also like to ask a few things, it is long so sorry for the inconvenience.
In a post you mention that Lloyd or perhaps Zane, would have a lot of work to do in teaching Kaida that killing is not the "right way" to get rid of enemies, but I think this would also apply a lot to Jay, since in the first seasons Jay doesn't really seem to really care if he kills someone or not, to give a few examples: in the second season Jay simply throws one of Soto's pirates overboard who is never seen again since he must have fallen from at least a few good six stories considering the ship was in the air, all things considered I doubt that guy survived the fall, and then there's the most obvious one which is in the tournament of the elements where he literally electrocutes someone to death, because no one goes to convince myself that that guy just fainted. I think this would also be a reminder to Kai, Cole and Zane (Nya and Lloyd are not included because they usually weren't present when Jay suggested breaking the law) of how dangerous the element of lightning is along with how crazy it can get. to be Jay himself, as well as the entire path he took to be the blue ninja.
Did Jay ever hiss or show his fangs at anyone? I know he doesn't have too many serpentine traits but that doesn't equate to zero instincts or involuntary reflexes, it could be due to being too nervous or angry, (also like seeing a boy crossing the line with Kaida, who knows).
How's Zane with the whole Jay memory loss thing? He also went through it more than once so he would be the most patient with him, so he would also try to gain Jay's trust with small actions, favorite breakfast, talks about science and what he discovered about the merged lands or simply accompany him and to let him know that neither he nor Kaida will be alone again.
Will Jay make jokes or little puns again when he recovers his memories or part of them? I imagine him trying to get back to the familiarity of those small conversations with the rest of the ninjas, although at first it doesn't go well because they all think Jay is insulting them or something because they can't tell if it's sarcasm or not.
Last question and I swear I'll leave you alone. Would Kai and Jay sit down and have tea while talking about how amazing and adorable their daughters are and how proud they are of them while in the background Kaida and Wylfire are destroying and setting fire to something?
Hi!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE ASKS!! I'm glad you like my AU ^^
THAT'S A LOT OF QUESTIONS SO THIS IS GOING TO BE LONG:
This is a very important point in the plot, because yes. The way Jay and Kaida resolve conflicts will be a point of discussion with the ninjas. Especially with how stubborn they both are to change their minds about something they essentially did to work/survive. So it would also be somewhat surprising for the team to go from thinking that at first Jay did all that because they assumed he was being controlled to realizing that he did those things at his own will. Idk, I always remember that as leader Jay's first order was to steal so it's curious to me how of the team he is the one most inclined to do morally questionable things. Although in Kaida's case it's a little more extreme, since she sees it that way because she was raised as a soldier, and Jay didn't instill exactly the opposite in her either.
On my hc Jay still has fangs and his pupils sharpen like a snake's when he's upset or scared. Him hissing at someone unconsciously when he's angry it's canon for me. And at the beginning, Kaida is confused and thinks everyone in Ninjago is like that
There's a little hint at this in chapter 5, but I want to write a chapter from Zane's perspective about the whole amnesia problem and I hope the show has something like that too. At least in this AU, Jay's amnesia is more or less permanently, and Zane would be one of the most patient to confront it since he himself had to go through something similar. Only this time things are less simple since he would also be aware, unlike the rest, that Jay would not instantly remember them again just by living with them after 5 years. So he would try to be less direct in his efforts to get him to remember them, and instead try to get him to trust them (while Jay comes into conflict because he is starting to realize that these people do know him).
I haven't written anything yet about the chapters when Jay and Kaida start living in the monastery, but I think it would be really funny if Jay just repeats old lines and jokes without realizing it. Like, I imagined him calling Zane a "nindroid" again as a mockery without remembering that he was the one who invented that word or things like that. And meanwhile the others don't know if he's really remembering that.
AND YES BOTH WOULD BE A MENACE IF THEY ARE TOGETHER FOR 5 MINUTES These two could be leaving a trail of destruction behind them and Jay and Kai would still be proud
My quick ramblings about VNC manga chapter 62 part 1
(more under the cut)
.
Time flied again, and now ch 62 part 2 is coming or already out XD so I'm roughly writing some bits at least asdfg
.
.
I wrote some depressing prediction for this chapter, and I'm glad things didn't go that (physically violent) way, especially for Noe :) Vani stood up (as he should, cuz he is part of the cause) and "solved" the problem...by being verbally violent asdfg Anyway, I still feel something similar to that might happen at some point, though ^^;
I'm anxious about Johann for several reasons, but for now...I feel so sorry for him that he had to perform that much to "smoothly" solve(TM) the uncomfortable situation and protect his family ;_; I just...don't know what (proper words) to say, and I hate it :(
I'm happy to be quite right about Riche X) It's a huuuge shame that the anime completely cut out her cute interaction with Noe in the Catacombs :/ It wouldn't have taken too many minutes ://
.
a little or a lot negative from here, with some potentially triggering words
.
Apparently...some people think it's a bad / problematic writing decision that "white" Vani enlightens "black" Noe about "racism" towards Dham...as if the narrative / context was meant to mock Noe or such?? Also, as if similar situations (not just about racism) never happen in real life?? Honestly, they seem to be the ones who are somehow obsessed with the skin color tone of fictional characters the most lol
Like...did Vani have to leave Noe ignorant as he was, then? Was there any other "better" person (ex. "black" Dham) to explain "better" at the moment?? It doesn't even look like what Vani said was particularly wrong, either - especially compared to the situation when Luca "explained" to Vani/Noe what the Book of Vanitas does(TM), and then Vani got annoyed and tried to fix his (Luca's) wrong idea/info (not to mention Blue Moon clan is a discriminated minority as well).
For some imaginary example in regards to real life - it's said 99% of people are allosexual and only 1% are asexual in the world. It may happen that some asexual person never realized oneself being asexual and suffered from it for so long alone, and some allosexual person who happened to know a lot could notice what's going on and introduce "asexual" to the asexual person in a sincerely kind / helpful manner, "saving / freeing" the one, even.
Isn't it a good thing to learn about something "new" that is necessary "in any way (not offensive!!)", rather than staying behind and unintentionally repeating the same negative situation, if not causing worse things? Not everyone is lucky to get to know something or everything "naturally" or "normally" by a specific "proper" age.
Besides, Noe is understandably ignorant (like us readers / audiences) in canon from the beginning, with all his unfortunate, traumatic, and isolated childhood backstories and extremely limited interactions with other people... Noe's such huge, naive ignorance indirectly tells something about the "Teacher" Shapeless One as well! which is quite subtle from MJ-sensei XD
IDK now I'm curious if they called it a bad writing, too (and called MJ-sensei racist), when "black" Noe turned out to have been treated as a chained slave / property in the black market and "taken" by "white" Shapeless One...as if it's all meant to look "pure positive"? What about the scene where "white" Domi put a chain on "black" Noe's neck? Was it only great because it's "female dominant"?? lol :/ I also remember that not so long ago - "white" Misha enslaved "black" Noe and violated him in multiple, stressful ways (including the rapey blood-drinking)...and yet, the fandom mostly felt so sorry for the "white assaulter" Misha much more and got sooo disappointed / mad at the "black victim" Noe for "daring to" fiercely fight back and hurt his face, NOT "gently" pushing him away or (just forgetting about kidnapped Domi his important childhood friend and) "angelically" understanding him (the abuser) and "eagerly" protecting him as a "mere obedient black slave" of his "poor young white master" aka Stockholm syndrome lol =_=
.
.
This was not going to be this long and this petty, but it happened midway, sorry asdfg
Thank you for reading my subjective opinions so far!
sorry to ask this here but I don't know where else to contact since I don't have the names of any of the discord mods I was super excited to join the discord and I joined yesterday, read the rules, did my intro (including my least fav color to show I read the rules) and I'm well above 15. When I last checked I was still waiting to be approved since it was night time for most of the mods. Woke up today and the server disappeared so I'm assuming I got booted and I'm just wondering why/if I did something wrong? Like did I miss something?
We (moderators) dont want to share the specifics of what we check when people apply for the server. However I dont want to leave you and others kicked recently in the dark either. Below is an example of one of the many things we look out for. I specifically chose something from a different fandom and that was not the reason for anyone recent's kicking. I hope reading it will understand how its not about a person being bad, but simply trying to keep the server atmosphere from combusting into flames.
Fandoms often have topics that are divisive, because its not actually clear if someone is doing the wrong thing. For example most characters in Genshin Impact dont have canon ages, and characters implied to be adults share base models with implied teens. There are many pairings between characters who absolutely seem like theyre both adults, but their character designs leave me uncomfortable about actually engaging with the content. This doesn't make the people who make that art bad, but it does bring strong emotions out in people who require a confirmation of them being adults to feel safe with the content.
As moderators it'd be a recipe for disaster to have a server with both kinds of people in it. Even with rules saying you cant post about it, etc. Genshin updates all the time and there could be another pairing with the issue right around the corner.
So. What I and the others decided was to figure out our stances on certain divisive topics in order to avoid massive hassle and hurt feelings.
There were people kicked yesterday from the server who didn't do a horrific crime, they simply had posts that could cause fights on the server. It isnt fair or cool or fun that it has to be this way, but our moderation team is very small and we have to have a pool of people we can work with. I'm very sorry.
“Judging by how the sales of comicbooks dropped from post reboot onwards” does this refer to N52 or Rebirth or the former but keeps declining even with the latter? I’m curious bcs 👀 like, well, it should be obvious the reason why but ig it’s true that many execs/marketing team in that huge kind of company do not have the biggest brain 🤷🏽‍♂️
I don't actually have official sources on hand, sorry about that! I remember reading an interview with Dan DiDio saying that in the past 10 years or so "they lost an entire generation of readers", which leads me to assume there has been a consistent drop in comicbook sales after Flash Point Paradox -ish. Not sure if precisely with Rebirth of N52. Which doesn't surprise me given that they butchered entire decades of worldbuilding, character building and established dynamics for a half assed parody of what they had before.
To expand a little on that. When the reboot happened, despite being hella pissed, lots of fans (me included) thought it was a way to set in stone some key events of what we can call the "main comicbook continuity" because a lot of things concerning New Earth (which is the "main continuity" going from the early '80s to 2010ish) made absolutely no sense, temporally and logically and what have you. For example, when exactly Dick had worn the Batman mantle. Or, that bullshit with Joker being ambassador of Iran. Or the ages of the characters, when they started wearing their mantles etc. Nothing of this happened. Instead they got rid of a number of characters that they didn't really want in their stories anymore (like Cass and Steph who literally disappeared despite having had successful and beloved runs as Batgirls), and they cherrypicked what to keep as canon (Joker shot Barbara and rendered her paralyzed BUT she can walk thanks to an implant, so she's Batgirl now and also she looks and acts as if she was 20 despite she should be in her late 30s. It's unclear if everything she did as Oracle and with the Birds of Prey happened or not).
As you can imagine, that didn't sit well with a lot of pre-existing fans, but also made it extremely confusing for new fans. Things make even less sense than before and it's even more intimidating to approach the comics since to understand a shred of what's happening you should read 30+ volumes of the New Earth continuity AND ALSO everything that happened post reboot and probably you still would have zero idea tf is going on. I don't most of the time to be honest.
This is also why people tend to be weirdly attached to stuff that happened in one single comic even if it was never brought up again, imo. For example Dick, Cass, Jason and Tim having been legally adopted by Bruce. I don't believe there is one single mention of that in any comic except the one comic where it happens - kinda like the writer who wrote it wanted it to be like this, but then the one who came after them pretended it never happened, and nobody brought it up again. So is that canon? It surely was at some point but how about now, is Dick "legally a Wayne"? As far as I know the answer is no, but again, nothing makes sense so people keep on cherrypicking what they like about canon.
Sorry I went on a tangent but yeah they made a mess. Toss in the mix the fact that many of the writers that handled these characters post reboot really hated them (and to this day I cannot understand for the love of me WHY they gave them to writers that hated them. Just see what happened with the whole disgrace that was the Ric Grayson situation), and you have barely readable storylines that contradict previous canon, make no sense and are boring and uninspired as fuck, trying to bank on cheap tricks like "let's pretend these people love each other and are a big happy family because that's what the public wants to read, right?? The Batfamily sells!". That's the extent of their effort to make a story good.
20 questions writer meme
I stole this. Feel free to steal it too if you want.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
37
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
364,141
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Yugioh DM and Tales of! Mostly Symphonia and formerly Crestoria (rip).
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Darling Lagomorph (crestoria) at 155 Weltschmerz (symphonia) at 133 Philosophy of a Knife (ygodm) at 94 Fear's Ascent (crestoria) at 83 Have You Seen Me? (crestoria) at 78
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I really struggle with this to be honest, if I get a really long comment or someone saying the fic was really impactful I try to respond but honestly I usually just leave it and reply elsewhere if I know the author unless someone is actually asking something/wants more info about something. This is basically just because I'm busy but also in part due to my old dA fame (bleh) getting me in the bad habit of never replying to anything.
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably In the arms of the heretic (ygodm) that fic really means a lot to me though and I think because of the premise it worked.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I'd have to say Absurdities and Echoes (symphonia) poor Zelos deserves it after everything else I put him through in that series. Sorry about your ring finger.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten a couple rude comments but it's basically been curbed ever since I turned off guest comments on my works. You can say it with accountability or not at all. Most recently I got a moralizing comment from someone about Ryou being 16 in Philosophy because of the smut that kind of had implications I didn't like but that's about it.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I used to write a lot of crestoria smut on my alt account (IYKYK) but I will sometimes include it as a framing device to develop character relationships. There's quite a bit of smut in Philosophy for example because loneliness and isolation are such big themes for Ryou and Bakura, but generally if I post something with smut to my main account it's because it's relevant to the story or develops the character relationships.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I have a proper Symphonia/Crestoria crossover in the works that's a continuation of TOC game canon, but I've been at a standstill with my Tales works lately so it's pretty far off from being posted unfortunately. But I hope you guys give a chance once it's up, because the lore is SUPER cool.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
A certain someone who knows who they are has either plagiarized or bastardized lines from some of my popular crestoria works but other than that no.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not yet but it would be cool!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! Charles and I did a collab PITY // PIETY earlier this year and it absolutely slaps! Luisa and I are also working on an art/fic collab right now that I hoe to have posted by the end of the year but we'll see... sometimes life has other plans.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Zelloyd's gotta take the cake for this one sorry fam. When it's been your otp for 15 years nothing can ever top it. But for yugioh it's a tie between thief/tender/angst I like any combo of those three.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I try to finish everything I start, but I've got a couple Tales WIPs that I'm having trouble finding the spark for. It's not that I don't think they'll ever be finished, but it might be a while until they see the light of day.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I really succeed when it comes to imagery and descriptive prose, plus getting inside characters' heads. I want to make people feel things with my work. I think the reason Philosophy and Darling Lagomorph are some of my best and most popular is because they're an opportunity for me to show off those strengths where I excel most.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
World building. I hate doing infodumps but I really struggle to include lore in ways that don't come off that way. This is a big reason I've never made the dive into original fiction (for now, I'm in the planning stages for my first novel. Stay tuned.)
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
The only time I've ever done it is when writing Yuna from Crestoria because she includes random french in canon too. I also did a french title for the latest chapter of Philosophy which was kind of fun. I think it's something you can swing if you're prepared to do your research but if not, avoid avoid avoid.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Tales of Symphonia. The things I put Zelos through, man. If you think I'm bad now you should have seen me at 14.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
If I had to choose just one probably Philosophy of a Knife, because like I said earlier, I get to combine all of my strengths into something I feel really proud of. I think I picked the perfect time in my "writing career", so to speak, to work on it because I feel like the writing style is very cohesive and it seems to have resonated with a lot of people so far, which makes me very happy. I hope you guys continue to enjoy my work going forward!
Team STRQ ships please:
Hummingbird (Qrow x Summer)
Phoenix (Raven x Taiyang)
Snapdragon (?) (Summer x Taiyang)
Rosebird (Raven x Summer)
Taiqrow (Taiyang x Qrow)
ask meme
Long post ahead
Hummingbird (Qrow x Summer)
Tumblr media
God damn, if I sound disinterest in any of these ships, I am sorry. But fucking Qrow and Raven makes the already lackluster dynamic of STRQ worse, on so many levels. We already have shit with Tai and Summer, and Qrow is fucking bloating the cast up with his whiny ass. I'll get to Raven later.
Back to the ship, I just do not like Qrow at all, and Summer's latest information dump makes her so weird as an entity. Did she straight up LIED to her husband, who she knows was emotionally destroyed by the same bitch she's about to team up with? Or did she truly not know about her demise because she was overconfident in her own abilities against Salem?
And the emblem never fucking made sense, because before V9, there's nothing much that can tell us about Summer as a person or even an active force in Ruby's life aside from some "tell, not show" from Yang and Qrow. None of that alluded to the rose emblem or how it affected Ruby as person when her mother disappeared.
These two characters literally have nothing that makes me care about them as individuals, let alone fucking partners in a relationship. Not to mention, rabid Hummingbird stans are just as annoying as Bee/s when it comes to Tai. Guys, Qrow doesn't need to be Ruby's bio parent for them to have a strong bond, stop diminishing Tai's already tiny role from her life to push your ship. I cannot stand Qrow's whiny ass as it is right now, having him be an active absentee parent like his twin will make me hate him more.
Phoenix (Taiyang x Raven)
Tumblr media
Same reasoning here for these two, with Tai as Summer and Raven as Qrow. Raven need to stay the fuck away from Tai, and this is coming from a person who eat up toxic dynamics for lunch.
Raven is just insufferable, and fans can make her more complex than canon ever can. But because we never know why she canonically abandoned her family, including her infant daughter, Raven just comes off as a shallow, selfish bitch who would hang with criminals who hit on her child than be with the people who love her despite her past.
If that was the case, FINE. Whatever, but then the show goes on to villainize Ozpin and blaming him for her reasons to leave. If Raven was scared of Ozpin, why did she team up with someone directly working for his antithesis, Salem? Then Lost Fables comes out, and it turns out Ozpin didn't even curse her and Qrow with magic, because they kept transforming willy-nilly with no consequences at all. Blame Salem for your issues if you want to avoid your responsibilities, you bitch.
And Tai...poor Tai. He's not a perfect parent, but goddamn he is the BEST when you use the likes of Jacques, Raven or even Ghira as comparisons. Yet he was villainized by the FNDM and Qrow is heralded as a good adult figure for Ruby when it was TAI who raised them for most of their lives. No one has to like Tai and his parenting can be criticize, but he is not the worse parent ever when fucking Salem is still around.
So yeah. Not my fav. Like, at all. And I deadass can make a better storyline for them as individuals and as a dynamic.
Snapdragon (Taiyang x Summer)
Tumblr media
Oh man...again, the fucking reveal for Summer in V9 truly diminished a good majority of my enjoyment of this ship. Again, if Summer KNEW about her demise, she willingly left her husband with their children to go with someone who betrayed them both, not even thinking about how he would take losing ANOTHER person he love.
I just enjoy fanon so much more for them, because there Summer and Tai are actually treated with respect. For example, my moot @bunbunsophy made an amazing art piece of evil!Summer inspired by Makima from Chainsaw Man, and it was an amazing foundation for an AU where Summer manipulated everyone around her to her desires, especially Tai. It create this angsty goodness where he has become her toy, heartbroken but broken as well to do her biddings with no will to fight back because he loves her. This is his wife, mother of his daughters, and without her Taiyang will be alone.
Literally ANYTHING would've made this ship interesting, but canonically, they're bland as fuck.
Rosebird (Raven x Summer)
Tumblr media
Fuck Rosebird shippers who refuse to include trans!Raven or trans!Summer into the dynamic in order to make Yang and Ruby. Do not fucking breathe near me.
Other than that; same shit as Hummingbird, but so much worse. Raven is a bitch, and it was clear in V9 that Summer cannot stand her ass. Not to mention that stupid ass panel in the DC crossover comic where bird Raven shat on Summer to Ruby. Like bitch, that is mad rich for you to judge Summer as a person WHEN YOU ABANDONED YOUR OWN CHILD. Fuck her.
Personally, I like the take where they were partners in Beacon instead of being Tai or Qrow's, because the betrayal between them will feel more personal like the boys' instead of "we were in the same team and she hurt the two men we both care about and I'm just here." I'm not saying that they can't be friends outside of partnership, but the partnership creates this unique bond that neither shares with Tai and Qrow; Summer trusted Raven to watch her back in battle, Raven grew close to her as a friends and someone she will die for, they know each other's fighting style to a detailed level and played off of each other so well that it's almost tragic when Raven left.
And when that scene in V9 happened, you feel that bitterness from Summer so much more because this was her partner who preferred something bad more than her. Maybe then I'll lean into this ship more, but right now it doesn't spark the least bit of joy.
TaiQrow/Mourning Dove (Taiyang x Qrow)
Tumblr media
Same sentiment here; I just don't care about Qrow because he's a terrible character, and Tai barely got anything to himself.
But holy hell, going off of the partnership AU between them, the fallout between these two would've been tragically beautiful; they understand each other in ways neither Summer or Raven could, and at the end of it all they were the only ones left behind. But because of the pain left behind for them, they grow apart even though it kills them everytime they raised their voice, every time Qrow pick up another bottle after Tai begged him to stop, every time Qrow had to snap Tai out of his depression for his girls and yet Tai cannot shine as brightly as he could anymore.
All that was left was resentment, burying a layer of hope that will always yearn for the THEM of before, or at least something close enough because they still love each other.
But canon hates them and they hate us more. So you know.
Thanks for the ask!
Hi, I would like to talk to you about your comment under my friend Summer's post. As a lesbian, I have to say that saying that "bisexuals exist" under a post about a character being seen as a lesbian/lesbian-coded is pretty lesbophobic of you even if you didn't mean it, as many times posts about characters being seen as lesbians whether canon or not get derailed with people saying that the character "could/should" be bi(and thus making it so that the character is into men). Also Summer is a bisexual Black woman so them getting rid of Percabeth isn't misogynoir and it's certainly not bisexual erasure because, like they said, Percabeth is incredibly cisheteronormative and REEKS of comphet. Also a lot of lesbians see themselves in Annabeth and agree that she is lesbian-coded and that her relationship with Percy can be seen as comphet, including myself. Respectfully, this was not your place to go "bisexuals exist". Yes, we know that bisexuals exist, as op is a literal bisexual himself, but that doesn't excuse derailing a post about a character being perceived as a lesbian with "okay but they could be bisexual ackshully". Yes, bisexual erasure exists, but a character being seen as a lesbian when they are portrayed straight in canon ain't it. Women and lesbians in particular face a lot of pressure to be into men and to center men in their lives, so you saying "bisexuals exist" is adding to that societal pressure even if you think it's not, even if you think you're doing something good. If you see Annabeth as bi, then make your own post about it. Don't come onto a post about her not liking men to remind us/op that she could like men. We already know that women are expected to like men. I'd appreciate it if you apologized and deleted your reblog. Thank you.
Hi thisismisogynoir, I appreciate that you and your friend are of a certain opinion here wrt Annabeth being lesbiancoded.  But I’ve been in fandom for over 20 years, and I’d like to share my perspective.
There are two fundamental topics going on here, race and queerness.
First, race: there’s this urge when there’s a racebent female character (and Annabeth is now Black) that fandom wants to sever her ties to the main character and usually its romantic.
For example, take cw’s the flash. In the comics, Iris was white but for the tv show the CW hired Candice Patton, a black woman. Lots of people were angry about this and  were insisting that the white redhead in the cast (caitlin snow played by danielle panabaker)  should be Barry’s love interest instead. They were very persistent and made fandom unbearable.  Another example,the original Roswell series had Maria DeLuca played by a white actress, but for the reboot, Roswell New Mexico, they racebent Maria Deluca and cast the afrolatina Heather Hemmens in the role.  Now that Heather was Maria, everyone wanted Maria to not be in love with Michael anymore  and the showrunners just so happened to give Michael another love interest, the whitepassing Alex. Michael was still one of the main characters and Maria, who was now a Black girl, was separated from him in favor of this whitepassing male character Alex.  There’s even an older, much more blatant example of this in the form of Nyota Uhura (yes I know she’s never been racebent but bear with me).  Back in the original series Uhura had chemistry mainly with two people, Chapel and Spock.  (  Now granted I loved original series Chahura (not really sure on the actual spelling of their shipping portmanteau sorry) shipping but now in the reboot Kelvin timeline there’s this urge to declare Uhura a lesbian again, when she has a canon romance with Spock.  There are plenty more examples of this pattern.
I realize you’re both Black and I’m not, and I really don’t want it to seem like I’m dismissing your lived experiences.  With all due respect though, it kinda doesn’t matter that you’re Black in this case?  It doesn’t really matter that you don’t intend misogynoir but rather what the impact is of this particular post. If the intent is to make Annabeth a more fleshed out character, that I can wholeheartedly agree with.  However you’re opening up a dangerous avenue where white fans can point to you and say "well here’s two Black women who agree with me that Annabeth should be kept far away from Percy!!!”  except they won’t word it that way they’ll use your words and say “here’s two Black fans that want Leahbeth to be a lesbian because she’s lesbian coded!!”
Speaking of, let’s talk about queerness.I get that there’s lots of different readings for canon but I’m kinda worried that you are mistaking your fanon reading of Annabeth as a lesbian and trying to project it on Leah/Annabeth, Imagining additional experiences unaddressed in canon is fair game, but it’s honestly hurtful to undercut, take away, and reduce a character’s experiences. IMHO you can advocate for a more fleshed out characterization of Annabeth without excluding the fans like me who really appreciated Percabeth. And yes I am biromantic asexual so I would love to see another bisexual character be the main focus of a new, mainstream show.
