Did anyone watch Rebel Moon? It wasn't... great. But a few things are worth mentioning. Sophia Boutella was pretty kick ass. Ed Skrein gets sexually caressed by tentacles. I'm not joking:

Charlie Hunnam and Michiel Huisman are completely attractive, as always. And there was definitely a little somethin somethin going on between their characters.

Eying each other during an important moment.

Spoiler alert: betrayal is happening here, but Kai (Hunnam) looks rather smitten with Gunner.

The phrase "on your knees" was used here. Yes please!

Small touches!

"You might just survive this if you do what you're told."

"I know you love her but you gotta kill her to get out of this alive."

Bro! You gotta stand that close? Whispering in his ear like that?!

All in all, I'd rate the movie maybe a 5 out of 10. I will watch part 2 cause I kinda want to know what happens.

I watched Argylle tonight.

The right gif doesn’t exist yet, and I do not have it in me to wait and update, so here’s the theatrical release poster -

My thoughts:

1. It was too American. (you know what I mean)

2. If you watch it on streaming, I can’t promise you’ll watch it through. It just keeps going. I checked my watch so many times.

3. There was a concept. It was not unique or special in any way. In fact, I’m pretty sure there’s an Amazon Prime TV series with the same/ a very similar plot line

4. There’s more than one recycled scene/ setting from Kingsman and I know there’s a whole universe attempt going on but don’t be lazy. (and let Kingsman be Kingsman)

5. Just too American.

Thank goodness for Taron Egerton (and John) because how else would ever know what's going on with Edward Holcroft. This long absence - has he fallen into the sea? Got lost in the forest? We'd never know if it weren't for these random IG stories of Taron (and John) of Ed.

Where is Edward now? Who knows. What is known is that he won't be seen in FX's adaptation of NEVER LET ME GO because the project has been scrapped. So yes, another Holcroft Hiatus is in the offing.

I must admit I didn't really belive that Ed Holcroft account was legit but I was wrong.

Another missing KINGSMAN star is Colin Firth. Colin has been busy in the past couple of years with back-to-back projects (MOTHERING SUNDAY, EMPIRE OF LIGHT, THE STAIRCASE) and he even pops up in the romantic-comedy RYE LANE (currently in theaters in the UK, streaming on Hulu in the U.S). But he has nothing currently lined up according to IMDB - even the action-comedy NEW YORK WILL EAT YOU that he was attached to in 2020 is not listed.

-Now someone who will not stop working is Taron Egerton and I, for one, am happy for that.

He can currently be seen in the excellent AppleTV+'s film TETRIS produced by Matthew Vaughn's MARV Films.

Taron and costar Nikita Efremov are so great.

Taron has CARRY ON in post-production and is doing a three-peater with AppleTV+ by reteaming with the streamer and his BLACK BIRD creator Dennis Lehane for FIREBUG (which Egerton will also serve as executive producer).

What is it about?: "Written by Lehane and inspired by true events, Firebug will follow a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator (played by Rocketman star Egerton) as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists."

Taron has donned his producer hat by acquiring the screen rights to Josh Silver's debut novel, the LGBTQ+ psychological thriller, "HappyHead". So far he has no plans to act in the project.

When Taron isn't working he's gassing people up, like his ROCKETMAN costar Kit Connor .

KINGSMAN ROLL CALL

-Mark Strong is another one who doesn't rest on his laurels. He can be currently seen on Netflix's MURDER MYSTERY 2 starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston.

He also has 8 projects in various stages of production including the upcoming HBO Max series DUNE: THE SISTHERHOOD. But with the constant changes at WB/Disco(very) and the series director and one of the leads, Shirley Henderson, exiting the project, who Is to say that the series will ever happen.

-Not a BAFTA party but Vanity Fair Oscar party, Sofia Boutella bumped into her former boss Madonna and her fellow former back-up dancers to Madge.

Boutella can be currently seen in Steven Knight's ROGUE HEROES and she will be in Zack Snyder's upcoming REBEL MOON.

-Sophia Cookson was recently seen in ITV's mini- THE CONFESSIONS of FRANNIE LANGTON and will be seen soon in Lee Tamahori's (ONCE WERE WARRIORS), EMPEROR in the lead role. The film also stars Adrien Brody and Bill Skarsgård. She also has STOCKHOLM BLOODBATH coming up.

TBH whenever I see people on her talking about more unsanitized queer and lesbian media or Queer people in movies that don't revolve around first love in highschool or Homophobia or female-led action movies or even a female James Bond I'm surprised that Atomic Blonde doesn't get brought up more because it's basically Lesbian James Bond with way better action.

The plot of Atomic Blonde is that an MI6 agent, Lorraine, played by Charlize Theron enters the spy capital of the world, Berlin, in the last days before the Berlin wall fell and has to extract a list that names every spy in Berlin from there before a counterintelligence disaster happens. There she falls in love with a beautiful french femme fatale named Delphine played by Sophia Boutella and has to balance her loyalty with desire.

It's basically a female James Bond story but grounded more in reality. it's great. The lesbian romance is done surprisingly well given it was made by one of the directors of John Wick. It isn't fetishistic or for the male gaze. It's treated like any other spy and femme fatale story. No one even comments on them being both girls. Lorraine is also a great female character in that she's as much a character as a female one. She uses her femininity well but she could also kick your ass in a fight. She doesn't manhandle grown adults but actual struggles and uses her wits during fights.

This is the meathead in me speaking but the action here is also great. The film was choreographed by Sam Hargrave, Director of some of the best action films of the past ten years in the Extraction films, and it's amazing. Lorraine is visibly beaten and bruised. She gets bloody and uses her surroundings and the action is brutal and impactful. It's great.
