Harumi’s face
I’m in the middle of rewatching season 8 because (I found a streaming platform it is free on), and I am sooooo curious to hear interpretations of Harumi’s “real face” as Lloyd calls it. we know she painted over the mark with makeup, but I would love to know peoples opinions. Personally, I believe they’re scars.

Rewatching Dragons Rising and you know, even though 'We Rise' isn't nearly as iconic or energetic as 'Weekend Whip,' I'm just so happy we have a proper intro back instead of the weird ten-second intro recap thing they had going on in the Wildbrain era

Ok ok, so some random thing I had noticed a while ago about Lloyd's eyes when they are green versus when they are black that I want to talk about.
First, for reference, Kai's eyes when they are partially closed:
Tumblr media
Notice how they have those little lines on the top and bottoms of them.
Now, I want to show Lloyd's eyes when they are green:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Lloyd's eyes are partially closed like that, he never has those lines while having green eyes. This is constant. It also makes Lloyd look a little strange compared to the other characters who have black eyes, though not that strange.
But then there's Season 9, which is the only time post Season 8 where his eyes are black at some point:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has those lines. He has them.
And I think I understand why. Because when you think about it, it'd look really weird if Lloyd had those lines on his eyes when they are green, whether the lines are black or green.
Now, just for something random I also want to point out, there are other characters like Lloyd who don't have the lines under or above their eyes, such as Zane and Pixal, who both have outlines around their eyes:

I just realized: Harumi, Mr. E, Ultra Violet, and Killow parallel the og four ninja.
Zane and Mr.E are both obviously robots, but they also both died in front of their friends from a very evil character and was rebuilt and came back later.
For Harumi I think she parallels Kai the best. Both of them were orphaned at a young age and had to survive. We get a lot of depth about both of their pasts. Also both pull a switch, in the beginning Kai was framed as the main character(especially for the pilot) but then he becomes part of the team. Harumi s the same, she’s first framed as the love interest but soon grows into the villain.
The next two aren’t as deep.
Killow and Cole would be parallels. Both (especially Killow) are first introduced as very tough and intimidating guys. But once you warm up a bit they are both a lot nicer than what you first thought. I mean Cole help to attack Kai and then two seconds later is politely introducing himself. Not to mention how Killow aids the ninja a few times when the threat get really bad.
Ultra Violet was kinda hard too, but I think her outgoing energy fits well with Jay. Both are very energetic the difference is that Jay puts that into his many little hobbies while UV does the same but for more evil. Also they both have canonically had TV shows(which are also parallels. Jay brought people on willingly to go through obstacles. While UV picked people who were unwillingly hunter)
Any thoughts or things I’ve missed?

Question about my ninjago descedents of luminescence au.
It's basically a war au, with mecha elements I got inspired from transformers, code greas and Evangelion.
An entire post with details of the au will be posted soon I'm still building the lore.
I know basically every charecters role in the story now except for Harumi tbh
I'm in a bit of what you call a dilemma about Harumi, should I make her a secret traitor, a symapthizer to Garmadon who runs a cult to break down order within the land or just a rebel soldier in another unit who does morally ambigious stuff like using magical artifacts like the mask of hatred.
Either way I do plan on having a redemption arc for her so I'm giving the choice for you guys.

Yknow I’m finishing the last 2 episodes of HoT tonight & am prepared to either go straight into the Oni Trilogy afterwards but there’s something about Episode 8 that I wanted to note!
(( Long rambles abound ))
I think I’ve heard a few people describe Kai’s behavior as very much jumping to conclusions when he faces off against Ray with knowledge of his parents’ alleged betrayals — and I do 100% agree Kai tends to be brash. Versus Nya’s behavior, in holding Kai back to get him to listen to their father.
But I think from the perspective of both Kai, it kinda makes sense why!
Like for Nya, since she likely wasn’t old enough at the time to directly know their parents, it’s understandable she’d want to her out her father because this is the first time she’s honestly seen or heard from him.
On the other hand, Kai’s personally grown up with both parents while he’s at an age to be conscious of his need for them & attachment as a young child who misses them. There’s a LOT of trauma in realizing your parents weren’t gone the whole time, that they were out there and just left you behind to do something else — something that wasn’t what happened but very much so was skewed to appear so. So likely the thought going through his mind would be ‘You weren’t there for us when we needed in order to do things for the people actively harming us?’ I thought that might be interesting to note.
We got a super nifty fight scene out of that so I’ll add that to my collection of cool Kai moments lololol.
Other HoT ending notes:
- The fusion dragon was absolutely EPIC! And a boiling sea that works with a master of fire & master of water???! That’s such a neat concept!!! These things make me wished that the season could’ve been implemented better bc HoT had such huge potential (I prob won’t criticize anything tho cause I feel other people wrote a lot over the flaws more eloquently!).
- Ray and Maya were pretty great for the short time they were there, but I have really mixed feelings on bringing them back. It was such a huge part of the beginnings for awhile — the siblings starting off alone in the Pilots, Chen holding the backstories of Kai’s parents over himself, then finally both siblings grieving in DotD with a beautiful scenes & the foreshadowing of their parents’ backstories when Kai wonders if they’ll ever figure out what happened. All of that was just implemented so well!
I heard alternate ideas proposed from those who thought the set up for an arc where Ray & Maya were actually evil would give a lot to explore. That’d definitely be interesting for sure!
But of my own personal preferences, I really liked them being on the good side but the issue stemming from a distortion of perspective obscuring the actual events & intention. And just overall the idea of them being dead but the story being years later, where Kai & Nya get to the bottom of things and unwrap what actually happened. Now that they’re back, and it might be hard for the show to fit them into the plot when they’re established as extremely important.
In a sense, I kind of worry about getting that same feeling for Lord/Sensei Garmadon the next season too. I already know what happens so I’m just bracing myself for it >~<.
Lastly, for the next season:
I can’t wait to finally get to watch the things I’m curious about the most!
In a jumbled list — I really want to see the implementation of Pixal as the new Samurai X, Skylor’s reappearance & role (& just more into how her powers work if she uses them!), the arc with Sensei Wu developing with the ninja, Nya-Lloyd dynamic, Karloff returning (omg - I LOVE them bringing back other elemental masters!!), and the Mr. E rivalry with Zane (the Echo Zane theories I’ve read are so exciting!!!).
I’m a bit scared though because the Kai character assassinations begin along with this marking the point of many people not being able to see Garmadon the same again :(. So I hope the good skill of the writers makes up for that bc I know this show does a lot with all of the elements surrounding it!
Aaaaaaa I have so many thoughts my brain won’t let me sleep 😭

Still working on this TWD Ninjago AU! Things are just a bit slow since my main interest atm is TWDG, but I'll try to get more out as fast as I can!
I think the part I'm most excited to get to is when I introduce Harumi into the story. Just gonna go ahead and 'spoil' it a little since the possibility of me actually getting that far with telling this story is low, so
Harumi isn't evil in this AU, she's just a little kid like Lloyd who had watched her parents die from the outbreak. She's taken in by Kai and Lloyd's current group of Dareth and Ronin, but she seems to be terrified of them, even when Lloyd brings it upon himself to try to cheer her up, trying to play with her. Hell, even Ronin tries to cheer her up, having specifically scavenged things for her, surprisingly. She was too scared and stressed to care, though.
When Harumi witnesses another death for the first time again, she finally breaks down, Ronin being the one to calm her down with a story of his own daughter. Harumi reminded him a lot of her, and maybe that was the reason he felt so inclined to protect her.
Basically, Harumi and Ronin have a sort of 'Joel and Ellie' kind of relationship! Also noticed while rewatching SoG that Harumi's dad looks vaguely similar to Ronin, so that could probably make it even worse!!! Hope I can actually make it this far...

Ive been reading Splinter in the Blind Mans Eye and ok. First of all, Lloyd has some serious issues. But we all knew that. What I came here to talk about today is one of those specific issues that is highlighted in this book.
His responsibility as the Green Ninja.
Listen, Lloyd has been feeling the heavy mantle of being the Green Ninja since he wore the gi for the first time. Hes been feeling the pressure on his shoulders from the ripe age of 9 years old, according to the book.
And the Ninja have been doing everything in their power to hold that away from him, to share the burden, to block him feom the full weight that could crush him. Theyve been doing that since day one, not letting him go on missions and expressing how upset and unfair it was during Childs Play when Lloyds fate accelerated.
And in the later seasons, when Lloyd takes on the mantle of being leader, they do their best to share that burden. But each time he disagrees, reminds him hes a leader, and takes on the full weight of being what Fate wants him to be.
The interesting thing is in the Wildbrain seasons, when Lloyd seems to change his mind, and let them help. While he might be making overall decisions, he tends to let Cole and Kai take over the emotional responsibility of being the leader. He allows himself to be babied sometimes. He lets his brothers and sister carry the weight of the world every once in a while.
And in SitBME we see why.
Tumblr media
Lloyd was pushed to the edge in the MotO trilogy. He was put through things that messed him up and he’s slowly coming to terms with that. He put so much weight on himself as the Green Ninja that it was so easy for Harumi to get into his head, promise peace and understanding, and abuse him through it. He realized that his family was his strength, and while in SoG he was pushing them away constantly to go his own path, he now realized that he needs them.
The Green Gi may be a symbol to many, may be a source of strength, of responsibility. But the wearer is only a child, put through things unimaginable, sacrificing his life so that others can have theirs. Its unfair, he was paying a price that he didnt even understand, as the book says.
Lloyd realized he deserved more, in a sad way.
Tumblr media
In Wildbrain he’s healing. Slowly, but surely. He puts trust in others, lets himself be a kid—something his siblings GREATLY encourage. He is broken, in a way. He is less trusting, and as he said himself—angrier. MotO took a toll on him, Hunted took a toll on him. But he is trying his best to heal. He is realizing that he is more than his gi, that he is a baby brother, a son, a nephew, a child. His whole purpose in life might be to be the savior of the world, but why cant he do that while playing videogames with Kai? While rambling about Starfarer to Jay? While eating candy with Cole? While learning to cook with Zane? While running with Nya?
He has fun more. He leans into his family. He accepts their hands and their swords by his side instead of behind him.
And that, my guys, is character growth.

Fuck it, headcanons that don't serve any purpose other than for my own personal enjoyment
Everyone on the team gets intrusive thoughts because I say so, some much louder than others (Lloyd and kai)
Kai cannot handle spice. I mean he can handle a little just enough for the food to taste good but any more and he will die.
Nya is a God with spicy food anyone catching a whiff of the amount of spice she puts in will not survive. she has the best spice tolerance in the whole team (and maybe realm)
Lloyd only started to dissociate (derailization and depersonalization) after morro's possession (because yes it fucked him up quite badly!!) It used to be triggered frequently directly after possession but its gotten better over time
Jay is trans, Cole is aroace, Lloyd is questioning (like me :D), Zane is pan, Nya is bi, and Kai is the token straight (sorry for this one lol)
Jay keeps accidently exploding the nearest microwave whenever he gets spooked. Like that's his go to thing to explode. whenever there's not a microwave in the Bounty or monastery the police will call them about ANOTHER broken microwave in some poor persons apartment.
Cole and Lloyd would be Lovejoy fans I refuse to listen to reason. Kai hates lovejoy and complains loudly. So does misako but she doesn't let Lloyd know to keep him happy (she does wear earbuds whenever Lloyd starts blasting music at full volume because his music taste is so shit (its mine))
Cole and Jay will have painting sessions together to calm down after bad missions or nightmares (sometimes someone will go get water at 3 am and get scared half to death to see the two of them just casually drawing)
Zane loves classical music. Pixal loves heavy metal rock. They research each others tastes and send music to each other
Kai's hair routine takes 3 hours minimum
Before SoG, Jay used to gel his hair straight and used makeup to cover up his freckles. Now he let's his hair be curly and doesn't hide his freckles
Nya used to beat up bullies at her school without Kai knowing. She got injured so often to the point Kai thought SHE was being bullied until one day he came to visit and saw her absolutely destroying some random kid. He was proud inside but had to scold her

Behold: the OG 4 in my Nutcracker AU!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kai - Nutcracker Prince
Jay - Windup Toy Soldier
Zane - Snowflake
Cole - Land of Sweets Resident
AU summary under cut :3
Prefacing this with the fact the Show and Movie characters already know each other and this is an AU based on @kittydemon9000’s fic, Same People, But Not Really (it’s fantastic, go read it! But you don’t need to to understand this AU)
So basically, sometime during the HoT-SoG year timeskip, for their collective mental healths, the OG 4 are talked into giving their friends in the movieverse a visit for Festival Day. Smith (Kai), Boreas (Zane), and Brook (Cole) are especially excited because Smith’s dating White (Movie!Zane), and Boreas and Brook are dating Red (Movie!Kai).
However, when the four cross over into the movieverse, they each wake up somewhere entirely unfamiliar, and with some… changes, Robin (Jay) especially getting the short end of the stick with his windup gimmick (there’s more stuff to it but this post is long enough as is).
So, they all quickly discover their friends (sans Red) have lost their memories and are fully convinced of their roles in this cursed movieverse. Smith’s at least glad his boyfriend is his Clara.
Anyway, they eventually learn the only way to break the spell is to complete the story and give Clara and the Nutcracker Prince their happy ending. Seems easy enough, right? Wrong. Even without their memories, everyone else is mucking up the story in all kinds of ways, which causes things to reset back to the beginning of the story.
Also this was all Chad’s fault. Because of course it was.

I recently saw a poll on Instagram that was as follows:
"Who should have really been the green ninja?"
The poll was between Kai (8069) and Lloyd (8059).
I have a lot of feelings about this, but I want to preface with: my opinion on this has nothing to do with how I feel about Lloyd as a character. Even if he was my least favorite in the show, I would still feel this way. It has less to do with Lloyd, and more do do with Kai.
The people who genuinely believe Kai should have been the green ninja do not understand Kai as a character. This is a bold statement, and I don't say it to be rude or condescending. There are so many nostalgia blind people in the fandom (moreso on Twitter and Instagram than here on Tumblr). These people have convinced themselves the show is bad because Kai didn't become the green ninja.
Here is my rebuttal: Ninjago depends solely on Lloyd becoming the green ninja.
Yes, all the other characters are important to the show, and there are many moving factors that make the show possible. However, the first season is completely about discovering the green ninja who will rise against the ultimate evil. And that character was never going to be Kai. The writers didn't decide last minute to make Lloyd the green ninja.
If Kai were the green ninja, his character would be bland, and ultimately, he'd be insufferable. Kai's development would have never happened had he been the green ninja. He would have stayed an egotistical hothead who assumed he was better than everyone. The character that these nostalgia blind fans love was created only because he realized that he was not destined to be "the best".
Furthermore, the Ultimate Battle would have had no emotional impact. At all. Across all media platforms, I see love for "Rise of the Spinjitzu Master". Even the people who believe Kai should've been the green ninja have shown their love for that episode. But that episode would not be well loved... like... at all... if Kai were the one fighting. Why? Because it wasn't his father that was being held hostage. It wasn't his story to be told. It would be a flashy fight, sure, but the fight choreography isn't what makes the moment so rewarding. It's the fact that Lloyd saved his father and purified the part of him that was thought to be long lost.
This is not meant to belittle who believe Kai should have been the green ninja. I just think they refuse to look past a story standpoint because their favorite didn't get the fancy power. It was never meant to be Kai. And he wouldn't have ever grown or changed had it been.
I also know that not all Kai stans are like this. It's mostly just Insta/Twitter fans who refuse to debate. They're also the ones that discredit SoG onwards because the designs changed. There's no point in trying to talk with them because they just... yea.
I just felt the need to write this because I've seen a lot of this on Instagram lately. I got a reel of Lloyd using the Dragon Cores to stop the mergequakes and someone in the comments was like: "To think that would've been Kai". And then I saw those poll results. And now I'm here.
If you read to the end just know that I love you (/p) and I hope you have the best day / week / month / year / life ever.
