Behold: the OG 4 in my Nutcracker AU!

Kai - Nutcracker Prince

Jay - Windup Toy Soldier

Zane - Snowflake

Cole - Land of Sweets Resident

AU summary under cut :3

Prefacing this with the fact the Show and Movie characters already know each other and this is an AU based on @kittydemon9000’s fic, Same People, But Not Really (it’s fantastic, go read it! But you don’t need to to understand this AU)

So basically, sometime during the HoT-SoG year timeskip, for their collective mental healths, the OG 4 are talked into giving their friends in the movieverse a visit for Festival Day. Smith (Kai), Boreas (Zane), and Brook (Cole) are especially excited because Smith’s dating White (Movie!Zane), and Boreas and Brook are dating Red (Movie!Kai).

However, when the four cross over into the movieverse, they each wake up somewhere entirely unfamiliar, and with some… changes, Robin (Jay) especially getting the short end of the stick with his windup gimmick (there’s more stuff to it but this post is long enough as is).

So, they all quickly discover their friends (sans Red) have lost their memories and are fully convinced of their roles in this cursed movieverse. Smith’s at least glad his boyfriend is his Clara.

Anyway, they eventually learn the only way to break the spell is to complete the story and give Clara and the Nutcracker Prince their happy ending. Seems easy enough, right? Wrong. Even without their memories, everyone else is mucking up the story in all kinds of ways, which causes things to reset back to the beginning of the story.

Also this was all Chad’s fault. Because of course it was.

I drew Show!Nya for my Nutcracker AU!

She’s filling the role of Marie, a doll gifted to Clara. However, in this version, said doll is the cursed form of the Nutcracker Prince’s sister, who tried to lead a rebellion after her brother’s curse and banishment. This led to her being cursed into the form of a porcelain doll, a fragile form that prevents her from fighting to her full capacity.

Rotating the Nutcracker AU more and now I’m gonna tell y’all how Kai and Jay get their elements turned against them.

So, after some loops of the story, Chad (the guy who caused this mess and also Master Chen and Clouse’s nephew) finds a way to mess with the rules of the story to make things harder for the ninja.

This leads to Kai becoming susceptible to his own fire, his wooden body being to burn after 30 seconds of continuous usage. And Jay… well, his tin body starts to conduct the electricity he produces after 30 seconds, as actual tin would do. This, unfortunately, causes Jay’s clockwork mechanisms to go on the fritz and completely wind him down, no matter how much wind he previously had (keep in mind he falls unconscious and can’t wake up or move if he’s unwound).

SO BECAUSE REASONS I AM SUPER MOTIVATED TO MAKE A POST ABOUT THE JAY ANGST IN MY NUTCRACKER AU-

So, because Jay’s role in the story, as dictated by magic BS, is the Nutcracker Prince’s (AKA Kai’s) general, he’s got a lil… quirk. One that’s not fun for him >:3

Basically: he feels compelled to obey any order Kai gives. Joke orders (like a playful “shut up”) are easier to resist than serious ones (like a genuine “be quiet”). Jay doesn’t even realize this is happening for a while, and takes even longer to open up to even Cole about it. Cole encourages Jay to tell Kai, and he does so.

Kai is Kai and immediately goes into protective older brother mode on Jay, vowing to never give him another order and to be more careful with how he phrases things so as to not accidentally say something that could be interpreted as an order.

And that’s the Jay angst! There’s plenty more to when it comes to this and I’ll ramble more on other post!

I’m bored so TIME TO IMPART JAY ANGST UPON YE

So- we all know Jay isn’t exactly having the best time in the Nutcracker AU already, right? Well, I’m here to tell you that it gets worse.

You know how Jay’s role in the story is the Nutcracker Prince’s (Kai’s) general? Well, this means that he’s a person of interest to the rat army… especially if one would want to say… hold someone the prince is close to hostage in order to get the prince to surrender?

This is going exactly the way you think it is.

Jay is kidnapped by the rat army, but they aren’t just content with having him there, oh no. They want to make him talk. They think he knows of battle plans (that don’t actually exist because Kai has other priorities right now) and they’re going to make him spill them by any means necessary.

Cue poor, poor Jay being subjected to having his key wound up and then violently ripped out of his back while being mocked by the rat generals. Afterwards he’s thrown in a cage, left to try to calm himself down and keep still, lest he use up more wind than he needs to, all the while the sound of the gears inside of him tick and turn, a slow, agonizing countdown to the inevitable. All the while the generals continue to throw insults, play around with his key in front of him, or even physically attacking him in his vulnerable state. Sometimes they him false hope of the key being returned, other they let him know how he’s likely dragging his team down with his constantly needing to be wound up and limited mobility, so why would they come for him, a useless, annoying windup toy?

The pain and humiliation also reminds him far too much of Misfortune’s Keep.

Eventually, Jay does wind down, a mercy, almost. Thankfully, he soon wakes up to his friends, who, even though they had almost completed the story and broken the spell, came back for him.

If Jay were capable of crying in his current form, he would.
